Asparagus is one of my favorite veggies ever. And after this weekend and some much needed health research, I have decided to become a vegetarian again. At least for the next two months during which time I am going to be on a fruit and veggie juicing fast.
My favorite way to cook asparagus is to lightly brown them in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, then add a dash of fresh squeezed lemon, salt/pepper to taste and right before you turn off the flame throw in a few tablespoons of sesame seeds. |

veggies
Hi Veggie Lovers'
YB, some things are meant to be kept like your grill man, very good. So, today green juice combined with green smoothie: celery cucumber apple lemon spinach (lots of it) banana aloe vera for the office today...yes, delicious and kept me energized all day now for breakfast had H2O with lemon went to the gym got home had green smoothie with protein powder for after work-out all this takes I've learned is thinking ahead and freezing the juices yes, immediately juiced or blended is wonderful so is freezing and heading off to the office with juice/smoothie in hand for the day so I'm doing both...juices are good frozen for two days still experimenting with all of this which actually adds to the fun of it enjoy your evening, Greco

That was nice Greco.
Our bodies are something like 60% water. With the brain being 70%.... and fattier tissue does not hold as much water as lean tissue. I love water, and drink it all day long. I loved the music in that posting too. I think we take water for granted. Thinking of the countries that have been devasted recently by tsunami's, drinkable water has been a major problem. I slept 9 hors last night, that is so rare for me. Felt good.

Hey, Greco,
What is the Vitamin D3 for? Also, how do you freeze your juices, and then do you just let them thaw out during the day? BB broke in our blender this weekend with: 0% fat Greek yogurt unsweetened soy milk a pack of instant oatmeal (This was a breakfast smoothie.) golden flax seed a handful of rasberries a banana *** Hy loved it! *** To all: In your experience what ingredients for juices and smoothies make you feel full and stay full for the longest? Thank you in advance! |

Congrats!
nycfembbw,
Let me give you my answer to your question...I congratulate you both for blending smoothie for breakfast. For me it is all about the greens, I use banana as a creamy base, then add lots of whatever green veggies your going to use...I use spinach, broccoli(frozen, organic, always its in expensive too), cilantro, dandelion and at times I combine two or three greens along with the apple or berries. The important thing is that these get blended under "liquefy", in other words, I always blend, giving the blender a rest every 1.5 mins, until the greens are thoroughly liquefied...the banana, and other fruit like avocado make it creamy and thick, satisfying, and filling. I also add walnuts, almonds (these I soak the night before so their softer), and that adds a nice crunch for my day. I use flax oil because the seeds are difficult to get blended unless you first ground them...frankly I don't want to go through all of that if the oil is available, organic, and delicious. So, that's it for now. I recommend greens, fruit, don't worry about the fat content in the yogurt, your body will use the natural fat in it to help it absorb the nutrients. It will not add fat to your body. I use regular soy milk, organic of course, these smoothies are delicious, and filling. If the smoothie gets too thick just add filtered, spring water until its to your liking. That's it for now...congrats again. Greco To all: In your experience what ingredients for juices and smoothies make you feel full and stay full for the longest?

Welcome to the smoothie world BB....Jenn, I didn't see you say you had some...(?)
Oatmeal, was it cooked? I never thought of that. I'd grind that first, and make it dust like.....(mmmm, I'm liking this idea) nuts are a source of protein (I usually use almonds), sometimes a spoonful of beanut butter, excellent with bananna. Proteins make you feel full. So thats veggies, Spinach is very mild (when mixed with a bananna). I like yogurt in my smoothies, i use low fat or full fat, you need some fat and the yogurt will make you feel full. I use ice cubes in the summer months. And always berries. I made freezer packs, portion controlled sizes of berries....strawberries, blueberries and rasberries, to last me well into winter......(no, i do not have to much time on my hands). I'm going to try that oatmeal in the morning..... Welcome to the wonderful world of smoothies.....loved seeing flax seed added to that.

Hi Jennifer....I put the dry oatmeal into the blender all by itself, and *blend*, it chops it to dust. I got a good chuckle out of the coffee utube, when the woman was adding metamucil for 6 grams of fiber. Oatmeal will give you 8 grams. BUT!.... Oatmeal is the only food known to do this, and is endorsed by the american heart association because of it. Oats are soluable. They go into your body and absorb excess grease (cholesterol) and eliminate it when you have a bowel movement. Cholesterol issues can be genetic and are not always caused by high fat diets. If I could make a suggestion, I'd suggest using quick oaks (mothers oats) instead of instant oats, because of the salt. No other reason. We learn from one another....I never thought to do this....(thank you again)and I love oatmeal. But eating raw, you shouldn't introduce boiled foods into your diet. Now I can have oatmeal, and the benefits of it again.

Green Smoothie
Another experiment again no bananas
crushed ice (filtered H2O) frozen raspberries frozen strawberries broccoli (two handfuls) spinach (two handfuls) soft tofu flax seed oil Vit C Vit D3 really refreshing, delicious, filling The importance of green leafy veggies? Fiber, Fiber, Fiber which is also found in oatmeal, and other grains, beans Fiber helps absorb toxins, and "sweeps" the intestinal tract...graphic? I'll stop here except to say that if also increases the bodies ability to absorb nutrients And the best part, it takes d_mn good in a smoothie...green smoothie. When I juice the greens, the nutrients go directly into the blood stream and as I've shared before I use the pulp for soups, salads, sauteing thereby not losing the precious fiber. Ok, that's it for me today enjoy your veggies, Greco

Oatmeal Cookies ????
Anyone have a healthy Oatmeal cookie recipe.? I'd like to make a healthy snack for lunch.
My Gramma used to make me chocolate drop oatmeal cookies full of sugar, and I don't know what else. I have Scottish porridge every day with almonds and some kind of fresh fruit. If I use a less water , it makes a reallly thick mass of good chewy stuff. |

[QUOTE=greco;384708]Another experiment again no bananas
as I've shared before I use the pulp for soups, salads, sauteing thereby not losing the precious fiber. I like bananas and I don't trust the soils of today (except my own, another plug for worm farming) for magnesium...anyhow....your smoothie sounded great. I had another beet. Gives a new meaning to home grown. I peel the beet then grate it, yes, slightly labor intensive....but I know I will reap the rewards.....before i toss it into the blender because I do want it to be emulsified and don't want to be swallowing chunks of beets. I had red stained fingers for a while.....AnYhOw made the cold radish soup I saved a few for my smoothies this week....and forced some of the cold soup on my neighbors (they had it last year too, picturing it going down garbage disposers as soon as I left) and I have 6 giant containers to freeze and a vat to take to work tomorrow (i picked up pumpernickle bread too) I don't know how your your place of employment is, but where I work, ANYTHING gets eaten....before 10am. Those fiberous things you toss into your soups you can fry up as a burger too you know? i/e the part I highlighted up there^ We skipped the baseball game today, < how humidity affects me have the a/c blasting, sitting in my underwear under a blanket and complaining, I'm going to have to get a second job to pay for the electricity........DO I MAKE ANY SENSE (doesn't require an answer)....now I want an apple.
