I think some of us have limited income at the moment and can only do so much at a time, but are enjoying this so darn much

Perhaps once every 4-6 weeks for me will work

my wallet agrees with you there, wolfy. i'm fortunate in that i make my own and that just leaves postage, mostly.

i'd like it to be ongoing, as often (or not) as folks want to. hell, i don't have to have one every day (although that is nice)...i'm just really tickled to get any at all.

i do random postcard mailings to a number of people already and i figure i'll just add this list to my other list and well....i'll keep mailing them out. it's just really great to be getting some in return. :)

We received 2 more as well!!!! One from Fancy and One from 1Playfulfemme!

When T and I pulled up into the driveway, I was exhausted from the flight and the driving but it didnt stop me from running to the mailbox lol I had to beat hym!!!

In regards to how often and what not, I think it should be a "when you can" type thing, no pressure :) I know we might slow down once August comes around, but much like Scoote I find myself looking for cool postcards all the time!

I have to tell you Scoote, I think I picked a good one for ya this time around! lol

Since we dropped them off at the post office yesterday, I dont anticipate anyone getting ours until midweek!

Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Hmmm....I'm flexible...what do you all think?

I am flexible too. Maybe let people send them out as their time and finances allow? I am having too much fun to stop :)

Yes, that's what I think too. I know it's a financial stretch for some folks...so please no one feel like you have to do more than you comfortably can. :)

I completely agree! This is supposed to be fun and enjoyable for everyone. There is no expectation or quota so there shouldn't be any stress about when or how many...no financial strain...like one more thing on the "To Do List".

Everyone should be able to participate as often as they are able or willing to!

Relax, Have Fun and Keep Postcarding.... :pile:

My two cents (for what it's worth)

I agree...I think sending out the postcards should be on a 'as we can do it' basis. I have to admit I have loved doing this. Not sure what is more delightful ...sending or receiving!

I came up with an idea on what to do with mine...they are so beautiful and some are so whimsicle that I want to see them everyday. I used a little bit of double sided tape and posted them on the front of my master bedroom clothes closet. I can see them first thing every morning and know that beauty, good thoughts and special bfp people greet me each and every morning...it is a great way to start the day (of course, I could think of a number of other ways to start the day great but then it is just me and my two cats....).

has become a lost art. There is something about the choosing of the card, letter, etc., and the pen...and the actual mailing of it that can be a beautiful ritual. One that requires time, planning, and care. The fact that someone would do this for me means they invested their time to do so. What better gift than to be thought of like this? There is a special someone on this site that sends out postcards that are photographs he has taken...he attaches the original photo to a thick paper the size of a postcard...writes an incredible, loving message and then MAILS it to me. I have treasured these as if they were touchstones...well, yes, they are indeed my touchstones.

I love the idea of connecting this way. Jo, I have PM'd you my address and would like to be a part of this.

Great idea/thread!
___ahh yes - actual words on paper - the way a finely crafted pen glides across a thick piece of fine stationary - while instant communication is incredible - there is something to be said for the dance of giving and receiving of a letter in the post - the sweet anticipation-the hope perhaps that your letter is received with even the slightest flutter of a heart or sigh from a lover - or the giggling smile of a child - or the internal peace and happiness from a parent or grandparent when they read your words --or the grateful heart of a friend - who simply needed something besides an onslaught of the usual bills and notices and junk mail. I am not sure how to get on this list - or if even still possible --but it would be great to participate in such an exchange!

Mailed 8 more postcards today. This has created a writing frenzy for me...it is good to return once again to something that had brought me years of joy but I somehow lost my way with it all about two years ago. It's nice to be home again in my own skin and a fountain pen in hand.

I thought ami said " we got sunshine today...I can play with lips for hours"

upon reading what I thought she said I thought to myself:

'oh dear (and yes I both say and think 'oh dear') poor ami has moved into TMI land, and how will I ever look corkey in the eye (virtual) again !! :)
there was nothing (exactly) untoward, still...and...all, I AM an old lady and well, stuff 'n things...

I then took a moment to re-read what she actually said and breathed again...

It is remotely possible that I am overdoing the postcarding *G*

We just got home from Ohio and would have sent them from there except it would seem that someone *pointing at self* left the SIX sheets of postcard stamps at home. *nodnod* It's true. So, instead of buying more stamps, those will go out tomorrow! :)

Also! If the printing gods are with me, I will be printing some pictures I took at The Wilds - a safari park in Ohio. Those will probably go out next week. Then a lil break...we'll be home until mid-August! :)

When I finally sat down today to go through the mail that had amassed while we were gone I found POSTCARDS! :) :) :)

We got Fancy's Movie Poster postcard! What fun!!!

Diva's glorious Sedona postcard!!! (I would go back too! How gorgeous!)

The TWO postcards from Jo & Scoote in the Bahamas! (We are totally jealous!!! Such beauty!)

A beautiful azalea postcard from Laney!!

And! Two postcards from T & Sunshyne! *Laughing* J bets on the pup, I bet on the cat, but we are both sure the mouse gets away! ;) And! The Nebraska one?? Breathtaking!!!! It's the centerpiece of our display now! :)

Thanks all! LOVE them!!!!

I saw a friend writing out a postcard the other day, and she shared with me a really neat idea. Her, her friends and family were all sending postcards to another family member in the weeks leading up to his birthday. In her case, all of their postcards contained old or funny images of the birthday person along with a note about a memory, the caption, or general bday wishes.

I thought that sounded like such a sweet sentiment...

So, I was wondering....even though you don't know my daughter, her birthday is coming up in a couple weeks. Would anyone sending me a card during the next couple weeks address it to the birthday girl (Katie) and say happy birthday? I think she would be tickled not only to get mail, but also to acknowledge her day.

Just a thought - thanks postcard peeps for inspiration! :)

Well, Wil she's grown a bit since you saw her last. Although she's still super girly and loves music, reading, and things like faeries and butterflies. :) She's this interesting mix of strong-willed social justice minded pre-teen and foo-foo.

Thanks Wil!

Oh, I almost forgot: he bday party theme is under the ocean, and I have strict instructions NOT to include the little mermaid. Ha.

thinking maybe a series of postcards that make a larger image if put together? that sound like something she'd like? kind of an easy puzzle.

I was finally at my home base post office yesterday...I've been to the post office since the last time I was at that one...I always am mailing packages!

I got some lovely, personalized and sweet post cards....and I got a, sort of, insulting and mean-spirited item as well....the post cards made me smile, and feel good, and excited to have been able to encounter folks from all over, most of whom I will never meet, all of whom are sharing a good part of themselves with strangers...

I could go on about the specifics of the cards, I am more immersed (at the moment) with the thoughts of how we are managing to see and act with each other in such a personalized way...how when I write a note I try to make it To the person I'm sending the card...to remember or pay attention or care enough to let them know I have been reading them and they are Real to me...and when I get cards and read something that lets me know I was thought of when it was written it makes me feel that the other crap which can happen in a space like this is really just-- crap...that this is what matters and that this is what defines a diverse community...

goodness...I am in a mood, I guess...the thing is that I mean it, that I am excited to try and find cards that fit people...cards I hope will represent me being able to say 'hi' in a way that tells you I get to know you, just a little, by what you post and by your sweet little post card messages....and, most importantly, that as I try and do my best, be best to the 'strangers' I """meet""" through this site, you are doing the same...it is good, and generous of spirit and I do thank you for it...thanks to Jo for thinking of, starting, and facilitating this all...it's nice to have a free form way to be in touch and to send little surprises to each other...

it was nice for me to have a tangible experience of people being kind and nice to each other contrasted with people who are not...I am so happy that, 98% of the interactions in my life are basically good...with the other 2%, I can and do get rid of 1% of the nastiness which leaves my brother---but we all have one of those, in one form or another, I think :)

somehow this has become the nina-confessional thread...I could delete it or edit it or something of the kind...thing is that I kind of think of all you postcard peeps as folks I (again kind of) know and I feel like talking to you this morning :)

thanks again, no--really Thanks for your time, and thought, and effort and desire to make strangers smile...I hope as you get back the little pieces of art work we are all sharing with each other, it gives you a moment to appreciate the surprises the planet has offered us...

okay, I will shut up and promise not to do this again!

I just wanted to say THANK YOU again to everyone that has sent love, happiness, sillyness & sites from your hometowns my way! It's been a joy to get smiles in the mail, when it's normally nothing but bills!

Hopefully will get to the post office on Friday, my day off
Still have 3 to send out to our last 3 that joined from my first round of cards

we got one from Corkey & Ami...sometihng bout a bear...wondering if i posted about one or if i should turn to local news....good thing we have a high ass privacy fence so the little bastard cant get in our yard and eat our little animals or swim in our pool(not sure if Jo would handle that well) but then again he might be able to kill that damn snake that lives under the bouganvilla(sp)

anyway it was a totally cool card, and i hope that i have acknowledged every card we have gotten---oh shit i just remembered we got one from Lips the other day..was a funky little card that we liked as well....
my special kitty tried to wash them all the other morning--early-i had brought Jo some flowers home, she put them in a vase on our coffee table--Gracie loves to drink water that holds things :| -- 8 am "CRAAASHup jumps Jo and managed to save them..just a little spritz really!

Oh, I almost forgot to mention.... I was in a cute little art shop the other day for the first time and found an entire rack of postcard books from famous artists. Imagine my delight! So, part of the next round I send will feature the works of Bouguereau. I believe he painted the most beautiful feet on his subjects.

I'm taking a slightly different approach to the mailings...I don't think I'll thread stalk each of you on here to determine your particular likes (for now); instead I think I'll find either local or interesting (to me) themes to share from time to time. I hope that's ok! Art is just one of my favorite subjects - so I'll share bits and bobs as I find them.

I also realized that many artists as they prepare for gallery showings, etc will produce a series of postcards with images from their exhibit. I'd like to find some of these and add them to the mix.

Thanks all for continued inspiration for such a fun hobby!

I got one semi-snarky one that I think the intent was humor...Besides that, we've been blessed with kind, thoughtful, beautiful cards!! I wouldn't trade this experience for anything!!!!

So let me ask You, Postcarders........is it a crime to send Y'all postcards from HERE that are from another state?

i make mine with poster board and double sticky tape. then i use a box knife and a cutting board to cut them out. overall, i'd say it's way less expensive than buying postcards. and, it's kind of therapeutic. walgreens also has print specials running most of the time... 10 cent prints make for really cost-effective post cards.

oh, and should we call you buba now?

oh dear oh dear oh dear...Please don't call me 'buba'...and, I guess if anyone did they'd understand why I won't turn my head nor respond in any way at all :)

I have a lot of double stick tape stuff...and can get some poster board, maybe I will have a go at it...though I sew all the time, cutting a straight line on anything is really my nemesis...no matter all the measuring tools I have, it's still a challenge I most always lose !!

we shall see how the post-carding goes today

you may have noticed, my cuts aren't exactly precise. i attach all of the pics to the poster board first, then use the box knife to follow the edges of the picture. it takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, it really doesn't take too long to knock out a few dozen cards.

I can understand that....sometimes, it's hard to find ready~made postcards! But if You Google "Beaumont, TX" and click on "Images", there are TONS of pics....and maybe You could get some postcard stock from Michael's/Hobby Lobby, print out some of those pics, getchur glue stick and slap some~a those pics on some~a those cards and VOILA!!!!!!!

And it's TRUE about the mustard card! Mustard has no personality...lol Now, they could have made it the color of SALSA and we'd have us a flag! ;)

Bahama Bunny is on centered on my dashboard.

It is outstanding, and she gets lots of comments and attention on my travels ;)
Thank you sooo sooo much.

I have received bunches of postcards and plastered a decorative bamboo room divider with them. Thank you to those who take the time, cards and stamps to do this. I started to make address labels so I can mail while on the road traveling.
It is so nice to get fun stuff in the mail.

Guess what!?!?! ***clapping my hands***

I stopped by the mail and I got my Very FIRST POST CARD(from Austin)!!! It couldn't have come on a better day.

I took it home and sat in the chair like I just discovered a treasure. It's an exquisite card that reads so much contrast, beauty, shame, sexual, compromise, and yet compliments all in one. this shouted butch/femme dynamic to me. Oh, what was the picture... an ax and a peach.

I woke this morning feeling blah. The stress has been getting to me and this really put a smile on my face.

TYTYTY! littleman?

Now when I get my list I have my SC cards ready to start sending!!!

psst...it was a sledge hammer. :) but, i won't split hairs. ha! i'm glad you liked it and that finally, someone gets the contrast part of that pic. i also like the play of the colors of the peach, mirrored in the residual paints on the sledgehammer. but, that's me.

it feels really good that people are so tickled getting their postcards. i'm almost as excited for everyone who gets one in their mailbox as i am to get my very own.

btw...tommi, thanks for the winter wonderland. a definite feast for the eyes in this dry ass texas heat.

lis & jess...really like the one from columbus. it's a cool town. who knew any place in ohio would be the midwestern mecca for queers? thank you!

You can split hairs, some times it gives a new meaning as in extra. Yes, the colors were incredible. Truly I felt I better stop typing earlier because i felt as if I sounded like a babbling little girl over a new box of crayons(yes, I still love to color). Needless to say, this postcard earned itself a frame. I thank you once more.

So, ya'll will have to have a little patience with me

Started going through the list for my second round of writing and mailing. I got through 6 last night and they went to the post this morning. There's so many now! I may have to work in stages. Speaking of stages...I get time to write when I'm at rehearsal (theatre), but not on stage. I've discovered that the director's a bit long-winded with those on stage, so that gives me time to doodle while sitting on the sidelines! :)

the postcard blanks I ordered did arrive this week...they are a tiny bit bigger than what I'd planned them for...good thing I am on a level in which I can use scissors unsupervised ! :)...I hope, this weekend, to be able to get some done and ready to send out...there is nothing in the way except myself, which is often my biggest barrier...so, I will see what I can do...

I am planning to attach laminated images to the post card blanks...I trust they will make it thought the mail...I was thinking I should send myself one to confirm they will make it before sending out a bunch and finding them to be lost in the vortex of the postal system...that makes sense--right?...I do know that they sell, and I assume successfully are sent, post cards which are laminated so it should be okay...

next weekend is the annual neighborhood wide yard/garage sale...I used to come over from the east bay for years to attend...I have since sold in it for a number of years....now a days I might venture out to look...I bring in vintage fabrics when I find them and love them...other than that, I have more collectables and treasures than I will ever need...I figure I will take a stroll next week just because, but will most likely come home empty handed, with will be my goal :)

this was less a post-card yap and more a stream of (un)consciousness yap I know...at my age, change is really hard and best not to be expected !!

wish me postcard creation luck...I did come up with something to write on each postcard, it was the same message and cracked me up, but now I worry that it's too Too so I am not gonna send it...it did make me laugh, but that isn't really an indicator that it would be well received...it wasn't dirty or anything like that---just might not have seemed as funny to someone who doesn't know me is all...

please...for the love of GdashD let me stop---Now!!

I do hope you are all well and the weekend, if this is your weekend, is kind

cheers

I will now need a new sheet of post card stamps...I still have some left, but I like to plan for emergencies and earthquakes and who knows what else...

I did Not write what I'd planned to write on all of them...I did, in fact, put it on scootey's card and then thought better of it so I covered it over and wrote another message...

I guess that's it 'till I think of something else that I think is postcard related and which may, or may not be...

hope the weekend is smooth and kind to you all...

wish me postcard creation luck...I did come up with something to write on each postcard, it was the same message and cracked me up, but now I worry that it's too Too so I am not gonna send it...it did make me laugh, but that isn't really an indicator that it would be well received...it wasn't dirty or anything like that---just might not have seemed as funny to someone who doesn't know me is all...

please...for the love of GdashD let me stop---Now!!

I do hope you are all well and the weekend, if this is your weekend, is kind

cheers

Nina

kim...

I got them on amazon, of course :)

Photo Postcard 4x6 Turn Your Photos Into Post Cards (15 Pack)
by Howard Packaging

they were $5.20 for the package...and I have the prime shipping thing so didn't have the add on of shipping....they seem fine and I just cut them to fit the cards I wanted to send...

I'm sure they would have them at local hobby or craft stores as well...

have fun!

Hey everyone....no SeaWorld today...evidently the Prince didn't want to wake up, and it's raining in Orlando...sorry! :(

In other news...I'll get on my "other" computer (that sits on the desk and I use during the week) tomorrow and get everyone updated on addresses and such. :)

I miss all the good stuff when I work 2 shifts on a Saturday and Jo is gone while elsewhere postcard peeps are running amok

In other news, I have postage stamps for my postcards
I would also like an updated list and don't care how it's sent to me

That is all and thank you very much :)

I sent off 6 postcards on Friday and spent my afternoon writing 12 more which will go in tomorrow's post. I'm trying to keep up and can't believe I've already received 2 or 3 from some people! (Not complaining, just feeling a bit overwhelmed).

Hugs!

so, i was thinking the other day...

would anyone else be interested in doing home made x-mess cards for this group? i'm interested in doing some mail art and i thought this might be a nice segue, from vacation postcards to holiday cards.

i know it's only august (even though my calendar says july...gotta flip that), but with the size of the list now, i thought it would be good to gauge interest and leave time to get stuff made.

jo, not trying to hijack your thread here...just a random thought.

I found that breaking writing/sending into smaller batches helps that feeling. :) So far, I don't think anyone has noticed that they get cards at different times, but they may now...

Does anyone sit and write the entire list at once? How long does that take?

*raises hand* i do.

i never really timed it. the longest part of the process for me is figuring out which image to send to who. some folks i've known for a while, or know a little better than others...that helps to make my choices. the folks i don't know just get a blind grab or i try to send something that isn't from their part of the country. i've toyed with the idea of just taking the top card from the stack and sending it to the first person on my list, and so on.

if i had to guesstimate, i'd say maybe an hour or so.

damnit...here i am, posting before coffee again. *quietly stepping away to go make coffee*

I have a stack which will be sent out this morning...I am a tiny bit worried since they are laminated and stuck onto postcard blanks (which I like a lot since I am too lazy to cut and glue my own)...I Might go to the trouble of checking with the woman to make sure they are gonna make it and don't need any additional postage...I really think they should/will be okay...

I tend to try and do them all at one time...my hand hurts when I try and scribble some message on the back, so I usually end up doing it in two sittings...for me, as well, trying to pick the card for the person takes the most time...

it's funny...I don't smoke (thank GdashD)...and it's been 10 years since I have, still doing the postcard thing makes me "miss" it...not really Miss it-miss it, but I notice when I would have been smoking during the process...and then, I get double milage out of the momentary thought of smoking, since I get to (once again) be so thankful I do not smoke...sorry, that was a little off topic, even for me!!

Just wanted to thank Littleman for the beautiful postcard that I received today. I love black and whites so it was perfect! *Smile

I have decided that I may collage my postcards on one end of my countertop under an old refrigerator shelf glass. This way I will have all of the pictures as a reminder of this wonderful group and they will stay protected from moisture. :-)

Good gravy! There's a lot to read when life gets too busy to be on every weekend!! :) :)

We got a Diva and 1Playful yesterday!
My wife says it's fine that you all got Diva & Me, but she'd like me back at some point *G* *nodnod* it's true - that's how her mind works ;)

For my two cents, I'd like to be home in time for vacation, please *G*

Jelli.....Jo has sent urs snail mail!

Zimmy....pm Jo ur addy!

morning Postcarders and pot stirrers...poor Jo is stilltired so imdoing the yard saling alone! :( its my new addictionit seems--i tried to get her addicted, but didnt work!

anyway--my excuse for last night was long, hard night at work followed by a big dose of medications and TCountry for opening the door so damn wide a buffalo coulda ran thru!

off to see other peoples junk!

have a great day everyone!

Absolutely no comment (after reading all that banter) about being off to see other people's junk! :seeingstars:

I got done the ones I planned to get done...

I guess that's it 'till I think of something else that I think is postcard related and which may, or may not be...

hope the weekend is smooth and kind to you all...

cheers

Nina

Now, see, if Scoote is as much like my wife as I think she is...when it arrives, Jo may find Scoote trying to steam them apart so she can read your original message! ;)

Does anyone sit and write the entire list at once? How long does that take?

I tend to do ours all at once, but now that the list has grown more, may break it into batches! I, also, haven't timed it, but would say around an hour and a half or so. I try not to write the same message on every card, tho some are repeats. I'm a "personalize it" kinda girl. So, that probably takes me a lil longer! And I am TOTALLY going to be as smart as Tommi & print out address labels!!! :D
