Default Warhol fan and going to be in the Chicago area soon?

“Andy Warhol—From A to B and Back Again” Art Institute of Chicago 111 S Michigan Ave Sunday October 20 2019 - Sunday January 26 2020

This retrospective of Warhol's career features more than 350 works for guests to explore. Instead of focusing on a specific era of his life, “From A to B and Back Again” accounts for the entire breadth of the Pop Art legend's output, from early illustrations that were commissioned for magazines to recolored portraits of celebrities that graced the cover of Interview magazine. While there are plenty of familiar pieces on display (a print of Marilyn Monroe, several Campbell's soup cans), there are also sections of the exhibit devoted to lesser-known aspects of Warhol's practice, including performance art, television and publishing.

Filled with self-portraits, homages to vaunted brands and celebrations of fame, “From A to B and Back Again” accentuates the echoes of Warhol’s art in the contemporary world—and seeing so much of it one place only makes its prophetic themes that much clearer.

Quartino 626 N State St Chicago

I just was reminded about this place in a phone conversation. I believe it was on my last visit to the Windy City that we visited it.

I do recall it was the first time I even had dates wrapped in Pancetta! So good that we ordered them twice! If memory serves me right I had a Bolognese pasta dish. The peculiar thing is I don't remember or associate a dessert with this establishment! Could we have actually passed on dessert? Seems highly unlikely when it comes to us two.

Check it out and see what you think...

I am not a beer drinker but I do visit someone in the Windy City who is and she's informed me she's dragged me to all of theses spots which she swears by.......

Default More Warhol............

Screening: Films of Andy Warhol
Art Institute of Chicago | Chicago, IL, Grant Park Jan 11 2020-Jan 12 2020

The Art Institute of Chicago's sprawling "Andy Warhol—From A to B and Back Again" exhibition showcases a variety of the artist's films, but it still only scratches the surface of Warhol's cinematic output. On January 11 and 12, visitors will be able to view more of Warhol's experimental 16mm films over the course of three screenings in the Rubloff Auditorium, including The Chelsea Girls, Lonesome Cowboys and Blow Job. The screenings are free to attend with admission to the museum, but you'll need to register if you want to make sure you'll have a seat. You can find more information about the program for each screening on the Art Institute's website.

"At Lula a 20% service charge is added to pay employees a fair living wage and benefits. A service charge model helps us provide a consistent income for all members of our team in a way that the old tip system did not".

Sidebar: I tip and I might add I tip well. HOWEVER, I'm opposed to forced tipping or as they are calling it "service charge" being added to my bill! I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds this offensive. And IF they are so worried about their employees making a fair living wage, cut back on your profits a bits and add that to their paychecks!

Default Book reading and signing this Sunday.......

50 E Ida B Wells Dr Chicago

David Sedaris, author of the previous bestsellers Calypso, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and regular National Public Radio contributor, will be appearing for one night only at the historic Auditorium Theatre following the release of his newest books The Best of Me and A Carnival of Snackery.

As always, Sedaris will be offering a selection of all-new readings and recollections, as well as a Q&A session and book signing. With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, Mr. Sedaris has become one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today.

Default Something to look forward too........

An exhibition dedicated to Frida Kahlo will replace “Immersive Van Gogh” next year.

In February 2022, after a yearlong run at the Germania Club Building in Old Town, the wildly popular experiential art exhibit “Immersive Van Gogh” is set to be replaced by a new visual spectacle from production company Lighthouse Immersive—this time dedicated to the work of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo.

Kahlo, whose work famously melds elements of folk art and magical realism, is perhaps best known for her self-portraiture and portrait work (like “Diego and I,” which recently sold for nearly $35 million at a Sotheby’s auction). Much like its predecessor, “Frida: Immersive Dream” will showcase animated video projections of some of the artist’s most iconic paintings, including works like “The Two Fridas” and “The Wounded Deer,” alongside a selection of drawings, iconography and photographs of the artist at various stages of her life.

Default Looking for something a bit different on the art's scene?

“Making Friends With Hungry Ghosts” will open Friday, December 10 at Home Away From Home (1141 N Damen Ave); hours are Fridays 6–10pm, Saturdays noon–10pm and Sundays noon–6pm, as well as by appointment.

Chicago street artist Dont Fret hopes people feel at home when they visit his Wicker Park gallery space—at least in part because the gallery is located inside Fret’s actual home, an apartment on Damen Avenue filled with vintage furniture and family mementos in addition to the art on the walls.

Inspired by his upbringing amid Wicker Park’s DIY scene as well as time spent living in an artist commune in London, Fret aims to fuse elements of art, food and culture at the half-gallery, half-apartment space, which he’s named Home Away From Home. When it opens to the public on December 10, the gallery will debut “Making Friends With Hungry Ghosts,” a solo exhibition of Fret’s work from the past several months, plus a selection of vintage furniture curated by Brent Rawlinson and Daniella Caruso.
