Wringer Washer

I used one in the early 70s when I was in high school. Had to rinse each load three times so had to fill up the washer 4 times (to wash once, to rinse three times) for every load. Yes, it was better than having to wash clothes at the river, but it was laborious. I would sometimes add a drop or two of blue coloring to brighten my white clothes. Haven't done that in years.

Ours was exactly like this too!

My mother had a bit of a different set up in our bathroom tho! She'd have a chair on the other side of the wringer and that chair held a wash tub of clear water on the seat part where she's toss in the clothes after the washing and wringing. If you remember the wringer part would move if you released the lock. She then hand swished the clothes in the clear water, wring them of the excess water thru the wringer again and toss the clothes into a wooden laundry basket to be take out to hang on the clothes lines.

Instead of filling & refilling the washer itself, my mom used a big wash tub with clear water for rinsing. Her system was whites, then towels, beddings, & last darks!

For sure one thing to be thankful for modern technology!

Why would one make a koozy from aluminum foil? Would it not conduct heat in a similar way to the can as they're the same metal? I might use the kitchen dish towel. It may insulate better.

I don't know from conducting heating, science was never my strong suite but I know we did the same with wrapping soda in foil. My mom went a step further and always then took a sheet of newspaper to wrapped over the foil...

Would it not conduct heat in a similar manner to the can as they're the same metal? Those are some cute cookies, though.

I might use the dishtowel. Seems like it would hold the chill in better.
my Daddy was (Army lifer) served in WWII in Germany working with Ordinance on the frontline when liberating a starving camp of Jewish men. His experience in WWII didn't really affect me until adulthood. My mom told me that he wasn't the same after The War.
