Chicago was just voted the 2nd most beautiful city in the world! Written by Emma KruppThursday September 9 2021.
Chicago was just ranked the second most beautiful city in the world (and the first in North America) by 27,000 Time Out Index survey voters from across the globe. How do we know this, you ask? A whopping 79 percent of voters—a percentage second only to Prague—deemed the city beautiful, beating out famously gorgeous spots like Paris (which ranked third), Amsterdam and Vienna. Chicago doesn't ordinarily get a lot of attention for its beauty, but the ranking makes sense when you consider our abundance of public parkland, stunning architecture and famously clean streets (thanks alleys!), plus our proximity to the glittering shores of Lake Michigan. For proof, look no further than beautiful gardens tucked away in Jackson Park and the South Shore Cultural Center, or the many lovely vantage points to check out views of the skyline or even our most stunning restaurant spaces. It's like our adopted hometown architect Frank Lloyd Wright once said: "Eventually, I think Chicago will be the most beautiful great city left in the world." But wait, there's more! Time Out Index survey respondents also voted Chicago the second most fun city in the world and the second best city for "community spirit" over the past year (Tel Aviv and Manchester were the first-place winners in those categories, respectively). We were also deemed the third friendliest city—perhaps unsurprising, given our status as a Midwestern metropolis—and an especially good spot for eating and drinking, according to 82 percent of respondents. https://www.timeout.com/things-to-do...s-in-the-world |

Lincoln Park at 1601 North Clark Street (at the intersection of North Avenue).
Chicago History Museum commemorates the 150th anniversary of the fire with its newest exhibition, open October 8. ‘City on Fire: Chicago 1871’ opens at the Chicago History Museum just in time to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire. The fire sparked immense growth and change in the city, setting it on a path of unmatched resilience and strength. Designed for families to learn, explore, and discover the impact the fire had on the city and the people who lived here, ‘City on Fire’ guides visitors through the crucial events and conditions before, during, and after the fire. Drawing striking comparisons to today’s social climate, ‘City on Fire’ features more than 100 artefacts, interactive and multimedia elements and personal stories from survivors of the fire giving us a look inside what life was like in 1871 and how a tragic event shaped the Chicago we know today. |

Apple Fest to return to Lincoln Square in October. Apple Fest will take place on October 2–3 from 9am to 6pm in Lincoln Square.
The two-day, fall-centric festival, now in its 34th year, stretches from Lawrence to Wilson Avenues, where a series of food vendors, farmers market-style stalls, activity stations and music stages will line the street. As always, apples are the star of the show: Whether you want to feast on apple brats, apple bread pudding, candied apple bacon, apple cheddar scones, apple-cinnamon tamales, apple-stuffed grilled cheese or apple cider doughnuts, you're sure to find a meal to satisfy your apple cravings, with selections from vendors like Gayle V's Best Ever Grilled Cheese, Borelli's, Tamales Express and more. You can wash all the delicious food down with cider from local outfits like The Northman, Right Bee and Eris, plus local and national breweries offering apple-infused beer (including A Bushel of Apples, a caramel apple-flavored blonde ale from Phase Three Brewing Company and Affy Tapple). Want to try your hand at making your own apple-stuffed treats at home? You'll also be able to buy fresh apples and cider from farms across the Midwest, including Mick Klug Farm, Phil Foster Farm and Los Rodriguez Farm, plus other fresh veggies and farm-made goods. “Apple Fest is always Chicagoans’ sign that fall is here and to stock up on their favorite fall goodies to ring in the season,” said Rudy Flores, executive director of Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, said in a news release. |
