I'm currently watching Hacks on HBO. It's about an older comedienne who's being pushed toward retirement by the casino where she has performed for years and years, and a 20-something comedy writer who can't stop herself from offending the wrong people and therefore remains unemployed. Honestly, a lot of people supposedly love this show, so I thought it would be funnier. But it is a pretty good show, and it is funny, just sometimes in the wrongest* kind of way. I've already finished the first two seasons.

* "Wrongest" should be a word, and in fact it is around these parts. It is subtly different from "worst"; "wrongest" implies a greater intensity of not-rightness. It is pronounced with three syllables and a drawl - rrr-AWN-guest.)

Have been watching documentaries on trauma centers in London.

The first one is “Critical: Between Life and Death” on Netflix. It’s a six-part docu-series on 4 trauma centers in London. The focus is on the surgeons and their patients from the time the patient enters the trauma center until their healing is ready to move on to the next stage and that could take days or months. I wasn’t expecting to see the empathy, compassion, connection and concern the doctors have for their patients. I was surprised and touched by that.

Today I started watching another docu-series by the same team on Amazon titled “24 Hours in A&E.” The focus on this series seems to be at Kings Trauma Center in London during 24-hour periods. Some episodes are available on youtube for free.

I’ve also watched the video below on Sandy Grimes. She was badass spycatcher who recently passed away. She was part of the team that caught Aldridge Aimes.

And the video above with Sandy Grimes led me to the series, “The Assets” shown in the video below and it’s a pretty good dramatization on how they caught Aldridge Aimes.

I’ve been on the lookout for movies and series about real-life spy moles but haven’t found anything else worth writing home about.

Im wrapped up in Netflix, Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair. Patrick Dempsey (Mc Dreamy, lol) stars and is the executive producer. Intriguing murder mystery.

The latest thing I am up on is "In the eye of the storm". Tonight they showed past video of tornados in Tenn. going from Nashville all the way to Knoxville for a total of 3 in a row tornados. I am glad we do not have them up here. One hurricane when I was young was all I have seen. One time we had a 5 second shaking from an earthquake. I could not believe the terror and distruction those poor people went through. This programme is on once a week and it shows all around the world storms but a lot in USA. I feel for you folks.

I just finished watching American Primeval on Netflix.

It was a very raw, gritty, factually based series. It gives me a new respect for our history. It also left me feeling all kinds of ways after I finished it. I had to put on Gilmore Girls just to clear the thinking fog.

But definitely well done.

I've been watching some very heavy, emotionally wrenching series lately, and I definitely know what you mean by needing "to clear the thinking fog".

I found just the thing! I've been watching the series Younger on Netflix. It's about a woman in her 40s who goes through a divorce with a gambler, while her daughter is just leaving for college. She had quit working when her daughter was born, and finds herself suddenly broke and needing to find a way to support herself and pay for her daughter's college. She moves in with an old friend, an artist in NYC, and looks for a job in publishing. Unfortunately, no one will hire her after 18 years out of the publishing industry.

She is mistaken in a bar for a 26-year-old, and she decides to make herself over and applies for jobs as a recent college graduate. She is hired; shenanigans ensue. The writers were able to come up with many plot twists, for much longer than I thought possible. There is also a good bit of lesbian action and plot development (her artist roommate is a lesbian).

I would recommend this series for anyone who needs some mind clearing from heavy, stressful content.

I watched this after reading your post and the spoiler.

I like spoilers and am glad I read the one you posted. It prepared me for the madness.

I like watching something more than once if it’s really good. This was very good but it’s not likely I’ll watch it again. The perpetrator was like a “mad person with diarrhea shitting all over the place” and ruining people’s lives without ever showing any genuine remorse. Don’t think I want to go on that ride again.

Yes, it was excellent, scary and sad for all concerned. Thanks for the post or I would have skipped watching it.

Documentary title ——>>> Twin Towers: Legacy.

It’s the follow-up to the Oscar winning documentary Twin Towers. It’s a documentary that follows the sons of Joe Vigiano. His wife too, and people they were very close to. Joe died on 9/11…. It’s incredibly sad yet inspiring.

The Pitt series on HBO. Very good. Another ER series but this one is told in real time. So, one season of 15 episodes takes place over the course of 15 hours in one day. I was late coming to the series but I like it.

Brilliant Minds series on Peacock. Medical drama "treating the world’s most puzzling psychological cases.” I liked season 1 but have been annoyed with season 2 and a possible kidnapping of a main character. I think it’s a cheap way of creating drama. Maybe I’ll come back to it, maybe not.

Pop the Balloon or Find Love with Arlette Amuli series on YouTube. There are difference versions of Pop the Balloon but I’ve only seen the one with Arlette on YouTube and it’s a riot. It’s “a dating show where someone is evaluated by a panel of other singles, who "pop" a balloon if they are not interested.” It’s fun and it’s not cruel. It can be rough, but it’s revealing too.

I binge watched the series, The Penguin, on HBO/Max last year and plan on watching it again. I’ve seen a couple of the Batman films but haven't seen most of them. I decided to give this a try. I’m glad I did.

This is gloomy, dismal, funny, depressing and very good. Farrell was convincing and outstanding. They gave him a great makeup job and he brought that makeup to life. You forget it’s Colin Farrell behind the makeup. He’s no where to be found.

Farrell is really good at playing characters with deep psychological problems without going overboard. His character was so damaged in the True Detectives series on HBO that I stopped watching it. I might go back to it but probably not.

This series is about the Penguin pitting two crime families against each other in hopes that he will come out the winner. It was fun seeing him weave in and out of situations he created or infused. Almost everyone knows he's lowdown and dirty but they need him, or he's convinced them that they need him.

One of the underlying themes of the series is the family unit and how families rely on, turn on, and mis-use each other. The only family that stood by each other, regardless of the possible consequences, was a “family” of sex workers.

I really liked the smart and resilient women who were playing with a stacked deck: The Penguin’s mother, Francis (Deirdre O’Connell), his nemesis, Sophia (Cristin Milioti), and his paramour, Eve (Carmen Ejogo)

There’s a lot about this series that I like but it’s no day at the beach. It’s dark and violent with a horrendous but fitting ending. I was depressed for a minute after watching the series, but it’s one I’m looking forward to seeing again.
