I thought the reason we did not have a photo thread is because admin once told us that they prefer that we did not. Daywalker (I think) already had the idea for a photo thread once before. Admin gave us reasons why it was not a good idea. I think something to do with bandwidth or one of those technical term thingys. I don't see a problem with clicking under someone's name either. Then again, sometimes I'm a bit crotchety myself. lol

if Bandwidth was a worry, why is there a Youtube thread and "find me a picture" thread.

I don't mind clicking under names too. I would rather someone click for my picture because they enjoyed what I said. Other than seeing my picture and then looking to see if I am smart.

I think it also had to do with having bots searching and being able to have some since of privacy, or something.

Ah, found it. Not so technical after all, but a reason nonetheless. "Using a thread as a gallery space circumvents the intent of the gallery and also lessens the value of the gallery space." Whether or not this is still the case, I don't know. Just throwing it out there.

Yes, I think that was it.

And paying for a membership effectively means you help pay for the bandwidth all those photos use up.
