I just got them at the bank, they were really helpful.

Now today I got some more Kennedy 1/2 dollars and 5 Eisenhower dollars, those things are huge. I also got some rolled coin, so let the hunt begin!

Yeah, precious metals are really high right now, that's why I am entertaining Myself with U.S. coins at the moment. The 2.00 bill I have has the red stamp and as far as I can tell those are the ones that are worth more than face value. I bet your $50.00 bill is worth more than face value!

yeah the red seals are worth more. i was told the $50 is worth 3xs that, but not sure..i got alot of my kennedy halfs and eisenhower dollar coins from the bank...i even managed to get 2 rolls of silver half dollars from there---total luck!

i have several $1 silver certificates..all in the 1950s......i still find the best place for coins is craigslist or the occassional yard sale...sometimes a flea market is good if its one that has vendors that can just come set up!

just an fyi...i tend to ramble--my thoughts go all over the place..in case it wasnt obvious yet...

I wondered if there is any particular strategy when getting rolled coin from banks to sift through? Aside from the 1/2 dollars and Eisenhower Dollars, I have been coming up empty.

was out yard saling today, and ran into a guy that guy the coin below in as good condition as picture shows...and got it for $25...i was drooling bc he got it for a steal! as for searching rolls at the bank ive never really done that except with the halves and eisenhowers...might be a good idea to get in with a teller or 2 and find out when the elderly ppl bring in coins--most of the time they can tell if its just regular stuff or if older!

Sounds like you did get a good deal. One question, why do the bicentennial Eisenhower dollars have such a high melt value? Are they silver?

Thanks for the tip on the Franklin Mint...I will check it out.

*subscribing* to this thread. I have started a new coin collection. I had a pretty good one when I was a kid. I clearly have a lot to learn though!

Well, I am starting SMALL... but actually, yes, there are some things I am looking for. I am completing my Lincoln cents collection... and some of the earlier ones I am looking for. I don't have it with me but will come back...

I know... am starting small... but I love spending the time on it!

I was saving wheat sheaf pennies off and on. Now that copper has gone up it's hard to find any pre 80s pennies. I check any I get and only 1 out of 30 is pre 82. Buffalo nickels are impossible to find in my change now too. I should have hung on to them earlier.

I collect coins and paper money - especially of the foreign nature. It started when my mother gave me world war two era reichmarks and it spiraled from there. It doesn't look like real money to me, which makes it all the more fascinating. I have mercury dimes, buffalo nickels, silver dollars, etc... but it's the foreign money that lights me up.

i guess i need to research copper pennies..never gave them much thought--except for the wheaties-but i see tons of pre 80 pennies at work all the time!

as i said before i collect paper money as well..tons of $2 bills, several silver dollar certificates and old 5,10,20 and a couple 50s..i also collect bills that have 5-7 of the same #..dunno why just know of ppl that collected them so i started...its actually kinda hard to find bills with 5 of the same #s let alone 6 or 7.

I am looking for a 1964 Kennedy Half...does anyone have one they would part with? Uncirculated would be ideal, but it doesn't have to be.
