Amazing futuristic series where youth fight in a "food Olympics" to feed their communities.

Another great series is FableHaven. It's for about 5-6th grade.

I have the cover with the built-in light and I *love* it! There was an issue with cracking, but they found and fixed the problem, so the new covers are just fine with no problems. I can't go to sleep at night without reading in bed, and my wife goes to sleep really early. It's been perfect for us.

I love my Kindle so much. I have the 3rd Gen with 3G and WiFi, and it's fabulous. I'm a voracious reader, and I often have 3 or 4 books going at once, so it's a lifesaver for me. I'm also a student, and every semester there are more and more textbooks available in ebook format. Every huge textbook I don't have to lug around with me is a big plus.

One of the things I love is the ability to read new authors I would have been unlikely to try or even find before. I adore the urban fantasy genre, but there's a lot utter crap to wade through in the genre to find the good stuff. With my Kindle, I can download a sample and read the first chapter or so at my leisure. Way better than trying to find the time to spend hours standing in the aisle of a bookstore trying to decide what I want to spend money on.

Ebooks also make it a lot easier to read authors who are self-publishing. Now, anyone can write a book and publish it themselves as an ebook and charge whatever they decide for it.

Does everyone know about Calibre? It's a great (free!) program to have if you don't want to be married to Amazon for your ebooks. As long as they're DRM-free, you can download an ebook in any format and use Calibre to convert it to a Kindle (or Nook, or whatever) friendly format and get it onto your Kindle. So if your favorite author is only publishing in epub format, it doesn't matter, you can read it on your Kindle anyway. I love it. http://calibre-ebook.com/

Question....

Has anyone ever had a problem with the screen becoming damaged? I tried to turn mine on yesterday, and the screen became jumbled with the sleep mode image & the current book I was reading. I looked closely at the screen, and noticed a small scratch... and the image starts to spiderweb out from that scratch. I tried the reset deal (with holding the slide button for 20 seconds) and nothing happened.

I saw on Amazon that the Kindles have a one year warranty, but I don't know if it's MY fault (like something scratched it) or if it is a defect. I'm kinda worried that I'm gonna have to buy another one. I guess I really need to invest in a case, instead of just throwing it in my purse

Is there literally a scratch or just something that looks like one - but isn't on the screen itself?

I had mine "wake up" one day to uhhh stripes - both horizontal and vertical. Within a couple of days the entire top half was just white and the bottom half had vertical stripes.

If you can actually feel the scratch - it probably isn't covered.

if it's a "scratch" below the surface then I'd call them.

I called and the only thing they asked me was had I dropped it and had I put any pressure on it at all. (I said no to both, though I have no idea if i may or may not have put slight pressure on it...)

They will send a replacement unit (2 day delivery in my case) and you can send yours back (within 30 days) in the same package with the return label they'll email to you.

THANK YOU so much! I called Kindle customer service yesterday when I saw the warranty mentioned online. I was calling from work and didn't have my Kindle with me, so they really couldn't walk me through any trouble shooting. They told me to call back when I had the unit in hand and they would see what was going on and what options I had.

I can't actually feel the scratch.... but can see it if that makes any sense.

I'm gonna give them a call tonight when I get home from work and see what they say! Hopefully, I'll have as good as luck as you did

Yeah mine looked like it had a horizontal scratch - bout midway down the screen - but it wasn't an actual scratch on the screen.. just this delicate black jagged line going the length of my screen. Oddness.

Amazon customer service is usually very, very good. I doubt you'll have any problems with them. They really want people to be happy with their Kindles, so the last thing they want is for you to tell everyone you know that yours broke while under warranty and they refused to replace it. I've heard of them replacing units that had been seriously abused.

I love my kindle!!!! I can't put it down, I make myself dizzy with all the selections. And hours slip away . So I have decided, I will only read 1 book at a time, and only when I'm in bed or there is nothing else going on, like a rainy Sunday afternoon and all my projects are finished and chores completed! No exceptions!

I got a Kindle Fire for Christmas this year (thanks honey!!) and I am LOVING it!! I didn't think I would like the Kindle when it first came out (being something of a book snob ) but I find myself fascinated with it! And, it's going to help with space...I have hundreds of books that I can't bear to part with, and yet I know it's not practical to move them all into the new house...Kindle to the rescue!!

It's FREE for two weeks starting today! I hope you will take a chance on it and tell your friends EVERYWHERE.

From the official site:

Book 1 in the Lusting Wild series.

New Orleans sizzles when Dr. Carly Chambers finds herself in the hands — or paws — of sexy shifter and antiques dealer Tony Pantera. Though the memory of his murdered human lover haunts him, Tony can't deny the sensual scent of this doctor his friends kidnapped or the fact that Carly is now in danger because of him.

The Turn Skins are power-hungry shifters who want to reveal themselves to the world and take over humans through fear. Tony and his friends stand in their way. Carly proves to be a tool for the Turn Skins when they learn that Tony can't resist the attractive doctor. And Carly is happy to stroke this shifter's fur. Their erotic encounters hurtle them into the path of danger and death.

Can Tony protect his human lover from the Turn Skins who don't care if she's hurt as long as they get their way?

Reader Advisory: Contains some scenes of violence that are not for the faint of heart.

Default Free books!

Hey Kindlers....

If you haven't checked out the FREE books for Kindle on Amazon, then you owe it to yourself to go there!

It's a little tricky to find on the site....you have to go to the 100 most popular lists...and ultimately it will show you a tab for free books. Tell it you want to see more....and it will show you a 2 column list. The left side is most popular that cost money, and the right is most popular FREE.

There are 100 books at a time, and they change frequently.

It sounds too good to be true, I know....but it works. I just downloaded 12 free, full length books....classics like Pride and Prejudice, Tale of Two Cities...and a couple thrillers...a mystery....a historical novel...even a 21 Day Guide to Mindful Eating.

I'm so excited!!!!!

These are the free books.

TIPS:

1. Always check the publisher's description
2. Always check the page count

Many authors are writing short stories that tie in to their existing books. My publisher started doing this a while ago and others have also started. It's extremely effective for backlist sales.

Hello there kindlers

I promised I'd buy myself a kindle when/if I reached six months sobriety. Well the goal has been achieved and I want my kindle but can't decide which one. The entry level one or the touch screen. Does anyone have any experience of one or both of the new kindles? What can you tell me that might swing me one way or t'other?

Ta ever so in advance
