Ohhhhhhhh *raises hand.

Count me in. I've always loved the idea of living in a compound anyway. All inclusive.

I volunteer to start the hospital wing up. We have a few more nurses on this site that will help i'm sure. I'll find a doc to visit a couple times a week and can video chat when needed. There are a few that owe me

We can give flu vaccines, fix booboos, treat resp problems and the like. Anything major we can transport you outta there by helicopter. We can take turns being oncall afterhours. We can have a small pharmacy with simple antibiotics, diabetic supplies and cold treatments. Oh and don't forget the vitamins!!!

Sharing bathrooms would be a pain. I vote for everyone having a room that includes a bathroom and shower.

Standing in line to teetee or brush my teeth is not my cuppa.

Princessbelle should get a special princess room just for saying "teetee"!

I'm thinking with 400 acres and builders, we could have houses or apartment buildings or just rooms
I suppose if you're paying rent, it'll be what you can afford
Kids should be allowed as well as any animal you may already have

I even like the idea of having the yearly reunions on the compound for those that don't want to live there
Renting rooms out for this reunion at great prices should bring many
besides everyone will be so envious, they'll want to see the place

Oh and June, I don't care where the place is built as long as we're all in it together

As for the too much togetherness...that's what vacations are for

Well it would have all the potential problems that the site has: some people just there to cause trouble/conflicts, some people being intolerant and bigoted with respect to others, etc. And then those who might take advantage of the kindness and generosity of others. Duplicity, etc.

I guess what I am saying is that there would have to be a rigorous screening policy before letting people in. And there might be politics around said screening policy, and camps might spring up and get divided, etc.

I am not saying it's not a great idea, I guess I am just aware of all the potential pitfalls of such a thing. Nothing that is good and right and important is easy.

IMHO that those people who took the time to travel to the Reunion, really would get along in person here.

We had no conflict, we had no duplicty, like any small community there would be problems that could arise, but this would be reality - and not the internet where all we can do is time out someone.

People wouldn't move there that weren't interested in being there and sharing the space IMHO.

Let's pretend that we're building a compound on about 400 acres just north of where we currently live.

Would you want to live on a BFP compound?
What skills can you contribute?
Would you want to do community meals every night in the "Mess Hall"?
Would people still need to pay something into the system like rent, even if it was only nominal?
Do you think you'd get tired of living with family all year long?
What pro's and con's can you see to this idea?
What input do you have?

Let's speak it into the Universe!

First off, congratulations on winning (saying your affirmations in the hear and now strengthens them);

1.I would want to live on a BFP compound in my own little place. Not in a dormitory though. I have to have utter silence in large portions of my life.
2.I am a psychic. I can tell you shit.
I am a great cook. I can make you fat and happy.
I am a fair mediator and can help folks negotiate intricate, yucky personal matters.
I can do pedicures on cats, rabbits, ferrets and dogs.
I tell great bedtime stories.
I'm great with kids.
3. Absolutely not on the community meals. I'd rather that was a once a week thing as a meeting time or just gathering. I love communal food gatherings but I would not be happy if they were all the time. Maybe as a drop in thing?
4. Yes on rent. A certain percentage of sweat equity plus cold, hard cash.
5. As long as privacy was respected and noise levels maintained, it would be all good. As Wolfy so wisely points out...that's what vacations are for.
6a. Pros: A community who gets me. A family who would be there for the long haul.
6b. Cons: A community who is, by definition, defined by sexual preferences on any level is going to see NRE (New Relationship Energy), Lesbian Bed Death, Bitter Breakups. We would have to have rules in place that were voted upon, agreed upon and not slung aside at the first drop of an "Important Couple" breaking up.
7. I love the idea and would be there as long as a whole hell of a lot of communication happened. Knowing this crowd, I don't think that's an issue.

My vision would be that it would look like a loose subdivision with everyone having their own house. We'd have several different housing styles available: 3 bedroom/2 bath, 2 bedroom/1 bath, and 1 bedroom/1 bath.

I like the idea of having common space in the middle but everyone could retire to their private houses when the community stuff got to be overwhelming.

Maybe I just have jealousy issues for those of you that got to go to the reunion, because for us, we really WANTED to go, but didn't HAVE the time. I'm sure you're not implying non attendees just couldn't be bothered to attend? I'm just reading this through my sensitive filter?

I think it was a statement where you can't reverse it in order to derive the inverse meaning. I read it more like, troublemakers wouldn't take the time to come all that way. Not that people who didn't go are troublemakers.

But I was there.

And I think I behaved even - reformed troublemaker that I am.

I've actually thought of this myself. The "compound" would be in the mountains of Ruidoso, NM though lol And everyone would have their own space...house/cottage...with 1 large building for gatherings. Figured a couple of hundred acres in the mountains would do the trick.

The amish and menonite make it work. We could even set up windmills or if near water use it for our power supply. Then there is solar.

Looks like we have mutiple talented people in the community. Oh well never hurts to dream never know when it might become a reality.

I do not think the NM would be Daywalker friendly.

Mountains in the California, very DW Friendly.

Default I'm in if...

[COLOR="Teal"...it is a smoke-free, kid-free, cat-free, drama-free place. With no bugs, of course, or druggies.

My contributions would be: cooking, sewing, making awesome pillows, and my forte - decorating/remodeling (the designing/planning part - I don't do physical labor - too old, no strength left in these ol' bones). I am a great event planner, and all around 'idea' person. So yeah, with all these conditions - count me in, lol

And yes, we all should pay rent, a certain percentage of our income. A community chest should be put in place for life's 'downs' to help our 'family' when they need it.

AND, we should all have our own houses/apartments in a secure gated community that is like Fort Knox to get into. OK, I think I'm done. Oh, one more thing -all doggies welcome, but must be neutered and kept in a fenced-in yard - we all get at least 1 acre each so we can breeeeeath. I think this is a very 'modest' proposal. [/COLOR]

Would you want to live on a BFP compound? Definitely

What skills can you contribute? Being an RN, I can offer my medical skills. I am also really good with animals.. I whisper to them daily, sometimes yell also.

Would you want to do community meals every night in the "Mess Hall"? This could definitely be an option. Maybe offer to go orders as well for those folks who just can't stay for dinner but need to eat.

Would people still need to pay something into the system like rent, even if it was only nominal? I think it would be a good idea to pay a nominal fee. Or services could be bartered or set like on a point system. You cook three times a week and you get free meals for the whole week... etc.

Do you think you'd get tired of living with family all year long? What family doesn't get tired of each other? If you have 400 acres available, set aside 100 acres or so in the back 40 for those who need seclusion. People could camp out there or we could build some cabins that come work by first come first serve type of deal.

What pro's and con's can you see to this idea? Pros would be we can be ourselves no matter what. We all have many skills, life experiences to offer. We could learn from each other.
Cons: You can wind up cutting yourself off from the rest of the world, but hey, sometimes that is not a bad thing. We could still come and go with a secret handshake or something.

What input do you have?

A creek or stream would be nice. Disagreements can happen when in close proximity. Have some type of system to handle such arguments if the two people can't handle them on their own... sort of like timing them out!

What about my 2 little boys, though? They can pull weeds or pick blueberries. lol. They're pretty well behaved. I don't know what I can do on a compound because my skills are mostly office based. I did have a fabulous garden this year but I'm no expert. I think Gemme and I are pretty much in the same skill set. I'm willing to learn though. I can give manicures. Hello, femmes...you need manicures.
