SMOKERS... LETS KICK the HABIT!!

2 cigs today, not too bad. ugh didn't want to do any. I was taking a herbal supplement and it had oats, duh didn't think to look for that and itchy all over.
switching to the smokers cleanse and hoping that helps. staring at the ecig box thinking it is awfully complicated and I am not up for that at the moment. tomorrow I will tackle that. tonight just breathing. breathing and more breathing. oh and maybe ice cream.

6 weeks as of yesterday. I had tried to quit in the past but never stuck with it. This time I just decided out of the blue that I was done. Gave the last two away and did it. The first week was the hardest. I just stayed away from fellow smoker's and out of the gas station I purchased them at. When I want one I picture my babies' faces or other reasons I want to hang around this world a little longer.

6 weeks and one day later.... I feel healthier, I smell better (when it isn't 106 degrees out) and I can hit notes when I sing that I haven't been able to in a very long time.

The BEST, most POWERFUL cleanse of toxins for your body is drinking water. Lots of water. Hands down. Throw away all the other crap.

WAY TO GO!!!!!! It is so awesome...and maybe just maybe you will heal and have saved yourself from health issues.

YAY!!! Another non-smoker to add to the list Way to go Gren!! For anyone still struggling...just hang in there!! The cheer-leading squad is filling out nicely in here and you have a whole lot of peeps rooting you on!

Can I make a suggestion here....

This thread is full of wonderful ideas that have worked for many.
I suggest you might read from first to last, then come up with a program that works fo r you personally.
Also , base it on those things which are tried and true.
But build it around your triggers/fears etc. so you take controle of yourself again. NOT the smokes.

This was actually posted for everyone trying at this time.
It truely did work for me.
And making sure you show up here daily helps as well.
Also holds you accountable to someone other than yourself..You know, in those times of sneak or cheat...ha!...smiles

A good doctor got me on the smoke-free path. For me, I had to be told that my body was on the verge of a meltdown. I had a choice, quite smoking, exercise and eat better or end up in the ER...hopefully still alive. I saw her twice a month for 4 months. Once a month for 4 months and then she cut me loose. My second visit with her she put me on medication both for blood pressure (150/90) and smoking cessation. My last visit with her ended up being one of the best days of my life. I no longer needed the BP medication. The Chantix had worked well in getting me to quit and I was healthier than I had been in years. I dodged a BIG bullet and I know it. That was almost two years ago

I keep a copy of that bullet as a reminder...good luck!! You can do it!!

Thank you for sharing. I guess with all the folks that share it is wonderful and your story strikes me as it matches my reasons and story. Your blood pressure is low compared to mine! I desire to bring it down, have it stay down and lower the BP meds (I don't know if I will ever get off). I go back to the doctors in 2 weeks. I don't think Chantix will be a choice for me but hopefully some other options will be.

It's been 2 years and 8 months and I still want one.

It seems to be worse on vacation. Kind of like since we are doing something special we should be "allowed" to smoke. Since we are away and on vacation it shouldn't "count" or something. We should be given a reprieve from the addiction part of it/hell that will ensue if I pick up again, and just enjoy the cigarette, without consequence. So odd. Magical thinking.

Anyway, it happened this past week when we were away at the beach. I said to tantalizing...."lets buy cigarettes!" (she quit when I did). Of course we didn't, but....

My point is, for me it never changes. If I could "get away with it" (meaning, if smoking didn't cause health problems"), I'd be the first in line!

I will say this, when you want a smoke..come read this thread, talk to someone, detour yourself for a minute.

Remember a niccotine fit only lasts 5 minutes in whole. Unless you have them back to back.

Find something constructive to do for that 5 minutes and your mind will change.

Also it charges you and makes you so much stronger for the next one....smiles

i have an addictive personality. cigarettes, i am totally addicted. it has been a month since i've had one. june 4th, quit date.

the very sad part is it took a heart attack to get me to quit. and a triple bypass (june 5th). i am only 45. but, i'm doing well.

it's been hard. the depression. trying to forgive myself for the heart attack. my family history is heavy with heart disease, but smoking played a bigger part.

i'll always want a cigarette, surely i will lol. but waking up in icu, ... all the pain, being on a ventilator, etc. ... i'll never smoke again. i'll never put another in my mouth. i won't go there.

i hope all of you quit forever. i give you love and support.

I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your srory. And I am so happy you chose to live.

I found out after I stopped that I have emphysima and copd...really is a kick in the ass when you are responsable for your damage huh.

It has taken me months to forgive myself honestly.

Not for me but what I have cheated my children and grandchildren out of.
And possibly what I may be putting them through in years to come.

I am still deciding if relationship ..for me..is going to be a true option...we shall see.

It hurts me to think I may put someone else through rough times due to this.

lady pamela, i understand exactly what you are feeling. thank you for the reply.

i need to write all these feelings down, sort it all out. i just want to stay away from the pity pool. keep going forward.

my niece and nephew, ... seeing me go through the surgery was emotionally difficult for them. i hope my living helps them. i'd like to say that i quit smoking for those that i love. but i don't think that i did. for now, i just remember the fear.
