We haven't lost power, and it's possible we won't because of our proximity to a hospital, Pete believes.
We did lose power for fewer than 24 hours during the storm where Pete's mother and Sparkle lost power for several days. I think Snow Blow Guy was here in the middle of the night and I was able to open the door to the porch, but there are a few inches of snow in the screened in porch. If we lose power, we'll cook on the grill, though I don't know how much propane is left. It will be cold, but Bella and I will just huddle under the covers. Pete insists we will still have running water. Pete has to work today, and it will take her a while to free Big Girl, her 150. I don't know who will plow the parking lot at work. I don't care how bored she is, as long as she gets back and forth safely. |

I'm still holed up in my client's lobby and not likely to get home anytime today...there's over a foot of snow accumulated against the floor to ceiling window next to me. The plows are very consistent in their endeavors... I have fallen slack, however and stopped clearing off my car every so often...I figure the snow will still be there regardless...sleep seemed more important. And staying dry is paramount when you don't have a dry change of clothes...
I hate to be one of THEM....but....this is New England at it's rawest...I'm rather relishing the return to the old days when winter was truly WINTER...I do feel for all the animals out in the elements...but this is what nature is all about. Good to know global warming hasn't done so much damage that we won't have a real winter any more. A very heartfelt thanks to all those who are helping make this storm manageable. I've heard the fire trucks going out every so often during the night. There are so many people who don't get to take the day off and just hibernate Thank you to them

West Warren, Ma checking in
Just got back in from taking 2 of our fur babies out its so deep almost lost them. Jacque the poodle was hopping around like a rabbit and cricket she just plowed thru. When I opened the front door there was almost a ft of snow tween it and the glass door. The steps had snow up past my ankles I had cleaned the stairs off several times last nite. One of our cars is barely visible however the Durango is standing proud. Almost like the snow was afraid to drift near it. There us like a snow free zone around it. The plow drivers r working hard here and u can't c the roads. I have to say they r good at their jobs when it comes to keeping the roads clean. The winds are still blowing but not as bad but the snow us still coming down at a good rate. Im thankful its powder |

Good Morning, fellow Planeteers! We are alive. We got hit with snow pretty hard. There is over a foot outside, maybe a little more. It is still coming down lightly. We are out at our house at the foothills of the Catskills, which I hoped would be the lesser of the 2 evils than my house I rent near the Adirondacks. I hope I chose wisely. Here we have a big wood burning stove and generator.

listening to the news and they just reported that Worcester, Ma got over 27.5 inches and its still snowing.
The driving ban is still in effect and they arent saying when it will be lifted here. We havent lostpower tg for that since out on the cape and the coast they are saying over 500,000 are without power. The electriccompanies says as soon as the wind dies down a bit they will be able to work on getting power back on . Just heard parts of Ct got over 3 foot. They didnt have a driving ban and they are talking about how many cars and all have gotten stuck |

Bangor, ME check in...
Winds have picked up and the drifts are a good 3ft. Hard to say what has actually accumulated as far as a clear reading. I haven't heard plows running at all through the night but that doesn't mean they aren't... Some areas of town are starting to lose power. I don't forsee this happening at the cave dwelling. Almost time to head out to work... I got french toast to make those kids for breakfast.

I think I got the least of the storm here. I know I have over a foot of snow. Friends and family in CT and MA are reporting over 3 feet of snow. Widespread power outages too. I imagine we won't hear from some people for a while.
Rhode Island has this weird snow belt where half the state gets something completely different than the other half of the state. Friends a mere 25 miles away from me have twice the snow that I do. I lucked out this time. (Don't worry, I won't press my luck in future disasters.) Right now I can't open my back door to look outside because the snow drifts have blown a mound in front of the door. I do see many tree limbs down from the wind and the weight of the wet snow. And I can see tree branches falling into my pool. That should be interesting to clean up. People criticized the governors of CT, MA and RI for their driving bans on the major highways, especially when these bans included big fines and possible jail time for people out on the roads without legitimate reasons. But the message was really to get businesses to let people work at home or go home early before the brunt of the storm hit. It's sad that they had to go to such extremes to express what should be common sense- stay at home and wait the storm out. Some states declared states of emergency, some didn't. The difference is that for a lot of people, their jobs won't let them go early or not come in unless an emergency is declared. Meanwhile in part of NY, especially in Long Island, the news is reporting that plows can't get through because people had to abandon their cars on the highway. Maine had a 19 car pileup on I-295. The other wild thing was the thundersnow... lots of big, bright green blasts of lightening. The concern tonight is more hurricane force winds, possibly taking down more trees, and thus power lines with them. In the past two years we've had so many bad storms take down trees and tree limbs. I'd still take a blizzard over a tornado anyway. |

Was a wild night! The snow is still falling and not expected to clear out of here until after midnight. Doesnt look like there is much snow out there. Maybe 8-12 inches so far. I am presuming the backhoe they are using to keep the parking lot clear is either to avoid blowing a transmission pushing heavy wet snow with a regular plow and/or because the configuration of the area makes piling snow an impossibility. Looks like they are actually moving the snow to someplace else. The power is currently on. Was going on and off with such regularity during the night it was making me think some assholes at the electric company were playing with one of those clap on/clap off things. 90% of the Cape is without power. Have no clue why this side of the road still has power but am thankful for it. Windchill is 0 at the moment. Winds are down to the more managable and less worrisome range - sustained up to 40, gusts to 60 mph range. Trees seem to be holding their own so far which is just freakin amazing. Road I can see is snow covered but passable. Cant use salt on the roads here because of the water table. The salt sub doesnt work quite as well in these temps. Number 1 brother from northern RI is reporting 2 feet and still snowing. Cant reach bro number 2. Have yet to be able to reach my Mom in the middle of RI. Had her charge her cell and spent a half hour going over just press the green button. Write it down. Green button. Even practiced answering calls with the green button. Hope everyone is safe out there.
