Default Zeppoli cakes

Today is the Feast Day of St Joseph....All of the Italians..I am speaking for
my self...buy pastries that are called St Joseph cakes....which in Italian is Zeppoli......these pastries are made with rigotta cheese or vanilla...and they are so dam good! ....I bought the rigotta cake....mmm...they only have these
pastries on March 19th...

I miss zeppoli. You make them differently in Jersey. Here they are a hallow pastry shell (fried or baked) filled with rum flavored yellow cream, topped with powdered sugar and a cherry.

Of course I say here meaning Rhode Island where I was born and raised. Here on Cape Cod, where I have lived for 30 plus years, there are no Italian bakeries. As a matter of fact, I think I might be the only Italian in a 50 mile radius. And here, they think zeppoli(e) is fried bread dough - back home we call those doughboys.

I miss my people and their traditions.

I remember as a child we had an Italian bakery 'Cafe Puglia' on park hill in Yonkers , ny. They had everything ... it was my favorite place to go when I had money ..lol. I also remember the whole hill was blocked off so the italian feast could begin ... those days were wonderful ....

Afternoon Lofters

It's warmer today, and so I think I will go work on my steps, have more mosaic pieces to use and so will make good use of the bright yellow!

Auctioneer offered me a box full of old dishes, so Hopefully will get them next weekend to play with. I have a wrought iron patio set I've been itching to do for a year... now is the time!!! Will look awesome in the blue mosaic with white metal. Fresh, springy and so darn cute!!!

Time for a break from the puter. ttyl....

Here's a bit of what I do when I'm not posting. Have been working on Grace, took it easy today and played with my broken ceramic collection. Us artsy types call it mosaic. This is my second project using mosaic. Not bad huh?

Ya, lookin' for attention again today...

Any one out there do mosaic also? Any tips you have will be gratefully acknowledged.

How's everyone doin'?? Sure quiet in here.

See ya for coffee in the mornin',

Do I remember St.Joseph days,my grannie would cook for a week before the day came as well as so many others in our Italian community...so much food, way more than any ohther day. When grannie passed my cousin Josephine took over putting them on,now that she has passed on recently at 100yrs old I have no idea who will do it now.My fave was the hay stacks, then mom would bake italian cookies then I would put the diffreant color iceing on them wich are fantasstic with a good cup of coffee.Oh,and welcome to the list and bringing good memories to mind.

The apple crumble wasn't bad. I just drowned it in plain yoghurt (a bit of sour to go with the sugar) and chocolate ice cream. Nom nom nom.

Default A fresh new day!!!

Good morning all!!
It's another glorious day in the neighborhood, with birds chirping and calling out love songs
and the ever faithful Hawk keeping the population of pigeons at a dull roar.

So what's on your calendar this week?

My weekend was full of auctions, breakfast courtesy of Waffle House staff visiting a good friend to put her back in order, and of course a trip to Lowe's to get wood restorer. Pretty exciting huh??

Welcome to Latino Heart !!!

May you all receive blessings and joy as you begin your fresh new day
