Saw "Dear White People" over the weekend. Just released but was a hit at Sundance. I thought it was well done and worth seeing but I am always a fan of humor used to discuss difficult or sensitive issues that people may want to shy away from. It reminded me a bit of Spike Lee's "School Daze" but wasn't as hard edged. It discussed standard racial stereotypes but avoided some of the microaggression often found in daily living. See it with friends and plan to have dinner/coffee afterwards as it brings up some interesting discussion points.

Anatomy of a Murder 1959
Scandalous in its time. Great characters. Otto Preminger directed a fine group of actors.

A chance encounter between a disgraced music-business executive and a young singer-songwriter new to Manhattan turns into a promising collaboration between the two talents
Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Adam Levine I was rather pleasantly surprised by this flick. Good acting, GREAT music, and I loved the relationship storylines running throughout the movie, can't ask for more than that ![]() |

Not just comedy in this one, but many moments of insightful advice. Especially of women owning their empowerment.

![]() Quote:
This movie actually surprised me a bit. I knew it had a sad bit in it but I found myself bawling like a baby in more places than I anticipated. Of course, I teared up during the Pampers commercial too so maybe that's not saying much. ![]() I figured things out before they did in the movie but not so early that it annoyed me. In fact, I quite enjoyed the whole process of it all. Good story. Good characters. Good graphics. They even have a Fall Out Boy song for the theme. There was a boy in a wheelchair, possibly with cerebral palsy (or 100 other conditions; I'm just guessing from what I saw), a few seats from me and he squealed with joy throughout the movie and that actually made the movie better. The rest of us laughed and gasped at the appropriate moments and he just squealed to his heart's content at some of the oddest moments but it made me look at things a bit differently and I tried to look at it through his eyes. If you go see it, STAY the whole movie, through all the credits. There's a yummy bit of fun at the very end. |

It was almost 3 hours long.
I think it would be more enjoyable if one was a science geek and understood more about wormholes, space travel, relativity, etc. Parts I thought were terrific, others, not so much. I loved Inception, also by Christopher Nolan. ![]() Interstellar: A group of explorers use a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer an interstellar endeavor. I tried to watch Hotel Transylvania again last night but the DVD was scratched to Hell and back, so I missed chunks in the middle and end. Good thing I've seen it before.
I want to get out to see this this weekend: I still haven't seen John Wick or St. Vincent and might just wait for Redbox for them. |

Watched Bridegroom on Netflix instant watch last night. It's a documentary about a young gay man whose partner died after accidentally falling from a roof. The way his partner's family treated him after his death was just awful.
I wish everyone who is against marriage equality would watch it. It was definitely one of the most deeply moving documentaries that I have seen in a while. May need Kleenex! |
