This idea came from a show on MTV that encourages High school students from different cliques to challenge their views of each other. Most all of us are out of high school for years and years now but this thread is here to allow a space for safely sharing ones vulnerabilities and to encourage mutual respect and a deeper understanding of the lives of other community members.
Lets respect the extent that people will feel comfortable divulging as much or a little information as they choose to share.
This is NOT a space for personal issues with any other member/s on this site.

You would know I have had a very stressful 2 years. I moved from N.J. to PA to take care of my 84 year old father who is going blind. I also took on the responsibility of 8 feral cats out back.
If you really knew me you would now I am somewhat shy and this sometimes hinders me in meeting new people.
If you really knew me...You would know I have been contented being single the last few years but would like to make some new friendships and start dating again.
If you really knew me you would know they found a lesion in my brain last month on the frontal lobe and are doing another test in 6 months to monitor me for MS.

great idea for sharing but also affirmations. I've been using a lot of self hypnosis and meditation lately.

If you really knew me you'd know that 10 years ago something happened that devastated me, changed my view of myself and world. Every year after seemed to spiral out of control and although I still achieved many goals there was a constant void , pain and fear within me. If you knew me before that you would have seen a vivacious woman that had an unreal zest for living. Strong, capable, beautiful and seductive.

thank you...it runs in the family. Once at a dinner party my 10 year old daughter made a big production about how she could tie a cherry stem with her tongue....we all sat there and looked at one another...daring not to say a word. The trip home was filled with howls...hers for being mortifyingly embarrassed and mine for laughing and not being able to stop myself before I made her howl more...

If you really knew me, you would know that my mother has never supported me. When I won my first tournament and I brought home my trophy, the only words out of her mouth was, how much did that cost? She never once watched me compete, nor did she care to. She also told the entire family that she did not think I would ever graduate high school, and that she was ashamed to be seen with me in public.

If you really knew me, you would know that I spent a good 5 years of my life after college, living at home, not working, but I was not being the moocher that everyone thinks I was. I was taking care of my mother who has epilepsy, and often times I would wake up to a cop knocking on the door saying he found her laying in the middle of the road, or to my dad calling me, telling me to quickly go get my mom where ever she was and to beat the ambulance there since they would take her in, and we couldn't afford it, and she didn't need it either.

If you really knew me, you would know that now, as of this day, I can not even talk to my mother whose problems have escalated past that of what it used to be. It came to a point where she lashed out at all of us, and now, unless she agrees to get help, she can't be a part of my life.

If you really knew me, you would know how much it saddens me, to have things be the way they have always been with my mother. To look at what my partner has with her mother, and wonder why it could not have been like that for me and my mother.

However...

If you really knew me, you would know how much love and respect I have for my father. He has never failed to encourage me in every idea I have ever come up with, no matter how stupid it might have been, he always said cool, and excellent. Even when I told him I was going to remodel the bathroom, but had no idea what I was doing, he let me do it anyways, and supported me in it.

If you really knew me, you would know that my dad tried to give me everything that he could, often times going without himself, so that I could have, and I am forever grateful to him for that. Even if it came down to my wanting the last fried won ton on chinese night.

If you really knew me, you would know that even to this day, I can find safety and peace in my fathers hug, and I know that if I need him, he will be there. The day he moved away, even though I am a grown man, I cried when I hugged him goodbye. Then when he moved back just recently, I couldn't wait to see him and hug him again.

my cat patches is my guardian and my kindred spirit. we've had him since he was 6 weeks old and 15 years later. when he dies, i'm getting his portrait tattooed, covering my calf.

i am a hell of a lot of fun, despite my anal retentive tendencies. despite, my rough exterior and shortcomings. Im the person who has dropped their keys in lake michigan, got stranded in 90 degree weather with no shade and still had a blast dealing with it.

I am also the reason why there are warning labels on common house hold goods. Back in november i was putting cling wrap on my decepticon tattoo and managed to get my knuckle caught in the blade. I cut it right down to the bone. After it healed, i hit it at work and resplit it open. It was in a splint, on and off for a month. I discovered that i nicked my tendon and possibly some nerves. Its now febuary, almost 3 months later and i still dont have full movment in it and it hurts just as bad as the day i cut it. :) watch out for those blades. they're sharp.
