Kevin, Jennifer and Jeffrey saw me drag in over $100.00 worth of their food late yesterday and they got so excited. They can eat well for a month plus now without any additional trips to get them food. I went all out ... makes me feel more secure in knowing they are well covered. They are my most important people! :)

Jeffrey pouted about being put in time-out. His face was looking out the backdoor every time I walked by. He runs off to the front yard which is not allowed unless I go with them. Snakes are out now, already caught one a week and a half ago in bird net snake trap. Jeffrey has already proven to me if he sees one, he will stick his nose down on it if given the opportunity. So far, Kevin and Jennifer have stayed in the backyard with me as instructed while I work so no timeouts for them yet today. That is a big YET ... It is only noon right now. We'll see ...

I realized I hadn't given Diva Kitty any treats for a few days (bad kitty mommy!). So I asked her if she wanted some Meow Luau and her eyes got really big. She's elderly, this is about the extent of the excitement she will show. Then of course, once I picked up the bag, she got up and came over to me.
It was kind of interesting because I think she understands the words "Meow Luau" now.

Loki understands the word "No!" because he hears it a lot. They both understand 'snack' and 'who's hungry?' and 'play?' and their names.
It's a beautiful day and the birds are out so when they start chirping, Gracie is front and center in the window with her nose pressed up against the blinds and her tail thrashing from side to side. When they get quiet, she will tuck her tail under and settle into the cat tree a bit more while still being on the lookout in case they come back. This has happened about 14 times already today.
This is why she is the skinny cat.
Loki is on the floor, spread out like warm peanut butter.

I went over to my sister-in-law's house, yesterday, to pick up her unemployment direct deposit form, so I could mail her form and my form for both of us.
While there, I stood six feet back from the front door, and Toffee and Petunia burst out the front door to come say "Hi" to me and schlick my legs up one side and down the other. Soon as they got over their excitement, they both headed to my car (I left the door open, cuz I was only gonna be there for one hot second). They got in, I had to get them out. LOL. (or not). :jester:
Three minutes later, I finally got them both to go back inside the house.
They were just extra loving to me, sniffing out where I've been, etc.

Monte is practicing social distancing. The other day I threw a comforter over the couch. He burrowed under it, made himself a shelter and now spends his days living in there. Unless he feels a need to eat. Even then he waits first to make absolutely sure I'm not around anywhere before venturing out to quickly gobble it down and then race fast as he can back to his fort. I wonder if he thinks in his absence I'm going to try and steal his spot so he'd better hurry up and get back there before I do.

On the way home last night, I went through the drive-thru at Burger King, bought a dozen plain hamburgers. I went into the back door yelling HAMBURGER PICNIC ... Kevin, Jennifer and Jeffrey started jumping all around with excitment. Kevin is totally deaf now but he picked up the cue from the other two, knew something tasty was coming his way. I got their bowls and placed 4 burgers in each one. Sitting in a chair, I mashed the grease out of every burger with paper towels, then tore all the burgers into small pieces. The prep time always adds to the excitment because I continue to yell HAMBURGER PICNIC frequently. Heh Heh!! It is a family bonding thing. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their picnic. Kevin has a super wide head and tongue, I looked over at him and he had a little piece of hamburger on his head. My big Kevie eats with gusto! *laughing to self* Their little peepers were still glowing when we all went out back for awhile, then back inside and on to bed. I do picnics for them like this every once in a while. Other times it is Arby's roast beef sandwiches or chicken. I realize these picnics are not healthy for them but I don't do it often.

Jennifer and Jeffrey are grabbing small bites of their food in between their game of "chase and tag me." They are enjoying eating outside. I feel so good ... in my head, I am looking around, lining up tasks for today, figuring out what I want to accomplish. Hope I can get lots done! You wouldn't be able to see anything anyway, Georgia. It was probably just a lost spirit passing through (assuming Diva doesn't do this regularly).
I'd take that over what my beloved girl child did this morning any day.
Normally, it's Loki that has this issue so when I heard the beginnings of a hurl, I thought it was him but no....it was my sweet, sweet Gracie yakking up some gnarly breakfast.
And, to make matters worse, I startled her accidentally so she zoomed through the living room as she continued and I wound up with 4 dashes of semi-digested kibble the length of the room.
Good thing I had an extra 10 minutes before work.
The demon child is currently curled up on the back of the sofa and my baby boy is wound into a fat pretzel at the top of the cat tree.

Gracie has not been seen for hours. It's a beautiful sunshine-y day with a nice breeze so I opened up the living room windows. I haven't done that before with them and it's knocked them off their game. I think it's the blinds as they swing in and out and rattle from the wind tickling their edges. Whatever it is, it has sent my baby girl into hiding under the chaise, her preferred hiding spot.

I've taken to playing with each of them individually right after they've eaten wet food in the morning and night because they have more spunk and playfulness then.
Loki eats in a separate room because he's a food hog and I get tired of being the referee. So, when Gracie finishes, she comes over to me and I pet her and then out comes the laser pointer. She loves it. When I've run her for a few minutes, I let Loki out and do the same for him. There's been less squabbles between them so working out that extra energy is really helping us all. They get exercise and they crack me up.
Today, Gracie got into it so much that her tail puffed up and she totally cracked out on it. It tickled my fancy so much. Also, I realized that I inadvertently taught Loki how to open the bathroom door, which he does from time to time. His favorite way to play with the laser pointer is if I move it side to side on the door and he'll jump up and put his paws together to catch it. Sometimes, he catches the doorknob. Sometimes he turns it just a little bit. I never noticed until now. Darnitall.

My old man dog is duping me. He has been limping badly for three days. We examined his paws, leg, joints. No cries for pain, no visible injuries, so I have a vet appointment for him this morning. He has a regular annual visit next week but I got him a sick dog visit because of the limping. Now... after keeping him to the first floor of the house for three days and letting him sleep his old heart out in front of the air conditioner he's fine. Dance walking, happy as a clam. Do I cancel the sick visit or get him checked to be sure he's fine? I suppose I will call the vet and let them decide.
The cats are all sprawled out. The old lady is screaming for food even though it's right in front of her. The others couldn't care less about anything really.

My dog is in the hospital.
He woke up very anxious, nervous, panting and packing and his legs were shaking. Then his legs started going out from under him. I sat with him for a few hours and went to work because my daughter has today off and she could sit with him. She called me two hours later to come home which is NOT like her. She had found him in the hallway laying on his stomach with all of his legs splayed out.
I got us a 3pm appointment with his vet but I didn't wait. I rushed him in at 11:30 and thankfully they took them. Now I am home waiting. They did a physical and bloodwork and haven't detected for sure what it is so he's going in for an EKG.
I'm so anxious and heartbroken not knowing what is wrong but knowing he is hurting. He's almost 13 years old so I know this could also be end of life for him.

Last month he was diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy. He has been on a high dose of steroids to try to help him bounce back, for however brief that bounce is.
Last night he had an accident in the house which he hasn't done since he was a puppy and he's been in digestive distress since 1am. He is not responsive to stimulation on his back lets/paws. He's not eating much. His walking is wobbly.
I am pretty sure it's time for us to be planning his time to go to rest. It's heartbreaking. When he was a little puppy he could sit in the palm of my hand. 15 years has been so very many adventures...

After a lot of fretting over the weekend I had a good talk with our vet this morning. We are taking the old man off of the steroids as they are likely causing his digestive distress and loss of bladder control. Then we monitor and wait and see. I have five steroids left and he said I can break them in half and give him low doses if he shows symptoms again but it's more of a - watch for quality of life now.
He was really happy today after being off of the steroids for 48 hours- took off running in the back yard chasing a bunny and watching ducks fly over the river.
My old lady cat had four breakfasts by 8am. She has developed this scream like she's literally going to die if you don't put food in front of her. She's just at a point where she can't remember if she ate or not. I just wish it would put a little weight on her. She's so tiny but she has been for the last two years. Part of her aging.
The other two cats are weighing in at about 18 pounds each and are pretty much just finding spots to lounge in the sun. It's too hot for them to wrestle like they like to but I'm pretty sure they are giving each other stink eye a lot.

Today, Diva Kitty went on a trip to the vet. She was very chill about the whole thing. Usually, she screams the entire way in her crate, coming and going - today, just a few mews. I thought it was because she wasn't feeling well, but the vet reported that she had been friendly, curious, and explored the treatment area. She also managed to turn her vet appointment into a spa day - she made a mess in her crate at the last minute, earning herself a shampoo and her crate a good cleaning. I thought this would upset her no end, but no, she remained very laid back. When we got home, she very calmly left her crate, ate a few bites of kibble, drank some water and then settled down on her (my) blanket in front of the washing machine for a nap.

Well, since a few weeks ago, when I posted about my pet friend, Sausage, I learned that she has been depressed since she and her engineer daddy moved from the work campus neighborhood. So, we're all gonna go drop in and visit our engineer pal and his sweet girl-dog, Sausage, next week sometime. I will no doubt have to go buy some special dog treats for her, that I can leave with her so she won't miss me so much.

Loki has been a little needy lately. More so than usual, that is. I was on the floor, going through a bookcase to sort donate-able stuff and whatnot and he did his damnedest to crawl into my lap. I can't do that anymore as I am sensitive/allergic (some days I respond better to him than others) to him and he is a super shedder. I look at him sideways and tufts fly off of him. Anyway, he was soo cute, trying to wedge himself closer and closer and tighter and tighter against me until he was halfway underneath my crossed knee. I do love the guy but he is not good for my health. I like breathing. Breathing is awesome. I just can't do it very well when he's rubbing on me.

Diva Kitty is responding well to her meds. That's why I'm up at almost 3 a.m. - to give her her meds. Hopefully there will just be a few more nights of this. We sanitized her cat boxes while she supervised this evening. I also ordered her some diabetic-friendly cat food that has great reviews, isn't too expensive, and doesn't require a vet's prescription. My only concern is that the protein content is so high, will she continue to get urinary tract infections? However, all of the diabetic management cat foods seem to be this way. I know diabetic cats are prone to UTIs also. I will just have to keep an eye on her and see how she does.

Is the story about the vet going to Iraq, about his dog and the letter he left at the rescue an urban myth or true?
I can't help but read the story, and I always cry and cry and hold Scout, and hope she goes before me.
She is the only dog I got on my own as an adult, and it has been just her n me.
I never thought I would own a Pitty, she is "English Staffy" and we rescued each other, when she was 12 weeks old.
She is now 10
and I love Scout more than any human or thing in the world
My fear having been so sick,is leaving her behind
that story always makes me think,I should write a letter.
BTW I love all critters
I believe every puppy needs a kitten, every kitten needs a puppy.
sadly our kitten "lil Bit" died 5 yrs ago.

Well, we took on 2 female kittie siblings to be future helpers in the barn. They had their first vet visit today and $400 later :| we hit the road to go home. Really?! Anyway they are not named yet and went by K1 and K2 at the vet. So we were wondering if it would be wrong to name K1.....Jelly? Always great to know how a naming came about. :)

Jelly and Toast? Jelly and Peanut Butter? Jelly and Fish? Jelly and Jam?
Let us know what you decide!
Today hasn't been especially spectacular on the kitty front over here. Loki is either hungry or lazy and in his cat tree and Gracie is burning up the calories playing and jumping into and out of my lap. Like Mutt and Jeff, these two!

Okay, so....I've become allergic to my cat. I have two, through default, and may be allergic to both but only one of them insists on loving me up from sunup to sundown so he's the problem.
I've tried antihistamines and bee pollen and de-shedding tools and have spent a small fortune on lint rollers and silicone mitts and food that's supposed to help with shedding. It was getting to the point that I was rejecting or redirecting him when he came to love on me, which made me feel badly and hurt his feelings.
I inadvertently found a solution. I got him a new cat tree for Christmas since he's too large for the one Gracie uses. He's over 20lbs so he's a big boy. The tree doesn't have flat platforms; they are curved and encompass him nicely. I started to notice that he had a small hair mat just before they got their shots at the beginning of the year. The vet took care of it then but as the months went by, more cropped up. Small ones and all at the ridge of his back.
It took me a couple of months to figure it out but it was the cat tree. Before, he always hung over the edge so there was nothing against his back. With the new tree, he lays in it and wiggles back and forth and tosses and turns in it all while rubbing against the inside of it, so his fur gets matted, even with regular brushings.
I was able to purchase some clippers and do away with the smallest ones farther away from his skin but there were 4-5 that I didn't feel comfortable trying since he moved around so much and cat's skin is so thin, it's very easy to nick them and they get infections very easily from broken skin. I called the vet and due to restrictions now, they only clip or shave mats if it's medically required and my allergies don't count as medical in this case. I asked if they could refer me to someone that could and they did. They gave me the name of a groomer that they use from time to time.
So, we packed up and drove there in a snowstorm. In October. Which hasn't happened in about a decade. Thank goodness the groomer had a huge sign because all the smaller signs along the road were completely coated in white. My GPS had crapped out too, so we were winging it. I brought both the babies in for nail trimming and to look at Loki's mats and possibly shave him fully.
Once there, the groomer said they could do a lion cut on him. He's shorthaired, technically, but it's thick so in the end he did wind up with a bit of a 'mane'. And his tail is the cutest thing ever. But, the most important thing is, this is the solution I needed! With the bulk of his fur shaved, I was able to snuggle with him in my lap for the first time in a couple of years.
The groomer thought he might be bashful and hide after getting home...embarrassed or whathaveyou...but she doesn't know my boy. All he needs is food and love and he's content. A lot of both, but just those two things, really. A bonus is how soft and velvety he is. AND he still has his kitten spots on the top of his back. He's got leopard spots on his back, tabby stripes on his sides and a raccoon tail! He's so adorbs right now I can't even stand it.
She also said he behaved wonderfully given it was his first time being shaved professionally. He did try to get away but never hissed or scratched or clawed. That's not his style anyway. He was most content with his head pushed into my mask and chest as I rubbed his ears. He's a darling boy, really. And now I can breathe around him. Score! Also, the cost was far less than I anticipated so that made my day, especially when I saw the sign on the counter saying they didn't accept credit cards.
So the plan for the future is to bring them both in every couple of months to shave Loki and trim both of their demon claws. After some time, he'll become more used to it and should fight a little less, especially when he knows he's going to get treats and extra love when he gets home.
I've ordered some dander wipes as well per the groomer's suggestion that will help as his fur grows back in before he's shaved again. Finally, I think we have a solution that will allow me to keep my beloved boy and breathe freely at the same time.
To be thread compliant, they are both snoozing comfortably now. Loki's on the top tier of the cat tree, as he prefers, and Gracie is tucked into the corner of the sofa. The wind's raging outside and the heat's on so it's a lovely day to be inside.

Today I added a little something to their breakfast wet food. Loki inhaled it and Gracie seems to like it well enough. She's never been as food focused as Loki anyway so her not turning her nose up at it is good enough feedback.
It's Dr. Marty's (https://drmartypets.com/product/natures-feast-branded/?gclid=CjwKCAiAv4n9BRA9EiwA30WNDyrLbAvaBNYraL1zXFo 60BodwpUJ6U41JTU_UL2lzDXgE6P_RjByqBoC7lEQAvD_BwE) freeze dried raw food. This stuff is mega expensive so I never intended to fully switch them over but I did want to use it to supplement their diet since I feel there's no mass produced canned food that takes all their dietary needs into consideration.
It's also supposed to help with shedding and gastrointestinal issues. Over time, I might actually start adding some fresh components to their diet as well. The idea of dicing chicken hearts and gizzards isn't my cup of tea but I want them to have a balanced diet and get all of their required nutrients. Feeding obligate carnivores is harder than it used to be.
They are restricted to dry food that is designed for urinary tract health because they eat out of one another's bowls and I leave food out for them overnight and during the day so they both wind up eating it even though Gracie doesn't need it.
The wet food is where I'm able to tweak and specialize each of their formulas because I feed them that in separate rooms with the door closed to give Gracie as long as she needs to finish. Loki was intimating her until she moved away and he'd finish her wet food too so I had to put a stop to that.
Right now, they are enjoying a late morning siesta. Gracie is on the back of the sofa and Loki is at the top of his cat tree. Fun fact: now that he's shaved, there's less bulk and when he curls up tight, he blends into the beige of the tree so I have to look extra hard for him. Also, he is the cutest snorer ever. He sounds like a little old man.

Monte slept, and I slept, through what proved to be a seven hour power outage. It was supposed to last ten but ended early so we experienced no suffering, just woke up starving. He must have been awake during part of the time I slept though because after chomping down a quick breakfast he went straight back to bed and promptly passed out.
I adopted a kitten today. She is very cute and fun. My home has been too sad for too long. No one can replace my baby but my heart is big enough for a new friend. I call her Ruth but as a kitten Ruthy seems good for now. She may be an American long hair or Maine Coon, or Rag doll time will tell. Tonight is her first night with me and she warms my heart.
:ballcat:
Kitten Ruthy's first night was fun playing with her ball and my feet. She is a big kisser, she loves licking my cheeks. She slept on my chest with her cheek on my cheek. Yum.
I don't think she is a Rag doll the markings are wrong. She is marked as a standard Maine Coon.
Anyway, she is cute, happy, and loving.

If she's Main Coon, she's going to be bigger than average. My Loki has Maine Coon in him and he's over 3 feet long from nose to tip of tail and weighs over 20lbs. I think females tend to only get around 12lbs or so, though. They tend to be snuggly and very affectionate, which always feels good. Glad that you gave her a chance at a happy home.

Loki has taken over Gracie's perch, which is lower than the tree but it's directly in front of a window and gets a ton of light. While he is still too big for it, with him being shaved, he does seem to fit into it better.
She has responded by spending more time in the tree. I wonder if this was negotiated.

Kitten Ruthy has mastered the game of fetch. It is big fun.

Yesterday, I was having lunch at home and talking with a peer on the phone when I looked over my shoulder to see what the fur babies were doing and I'll be darned, I think they were having a meeting. They were sitting upright and were facing one another with their faces close. When I looked back, they both looked at me and immediately moved away from one another as if to say, "Nothing to see here!".
I do hope they remember that without me, there is no food, toys, pets, clean litter or random interesting gadgets that I bring home from work to explore.

Kitten Ruth is growing, her lenth laying down is about 2 feet. She still loves the game of fetch.
I have noticed that she has separation anxiety and this may become an issue when I start traveling again. Otherwise, she is happy, playful, and loving.

Today was an adventure! First I loaded up my little angels...not...for a trip to the groomer's. For some reason, they were both cranky and fought her more than usual. Loki got shaved and both got their nails trimmed. My groomer earns her money. Loki is always wiggly and shifting, even when he's not being shaved, and he was extra so today.
Then we headed to the vet's, where I felt like I was at a Sonic, ordering food. You can't go into the office so they have signs in front of the parking spaces to call your visit in. They get info and updates from you then and someone eventually comes out to retrieve the animals. I got 4 hours of sleep last night so I actually dozed off in between my arrival notice and when they came out for Loki. It was nice and warm in the sun! They took them one at a time and when both babies were back, I had to go around the building to a shanty that they erected for payments.
Apparently, Loki is starting to get a bit of gingivitis so I have to use special toothpaste for him now. Thank goodness it's him and not Gracie. That would NOT go over well with her. With him, it'll be a treat. He'll get something to swallow and lots of pets so he will be happy. Also, he has gained a pound this year (which I suspected) and Gracie has lost a pound and a half, which was a surprise. She's in good health but she's tiny already so they want me to keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't slide any further.
I also picked up a bag of their favorite treats. That will help with keeping weight on Gracie, at least.

Ernie has been stubborn lately, so we've been playing a game where I randomly toss treats in his bowl from the table whenever he stops eating, until he finishes his bowl.
Conversely, Holle did a poor impersonation of a vacuum and choked on her food. Scaring both of us in the process. So she has a fancy new slow feeder bowl on order.

I got them a new litter box so I expect they will be checking it out and testing it soon once I get it out of the box and filled. It's a top entry litter box; something they've never had before. I hope it will help with the distribution of litter throughout the place. It looks like this (https://www.chewy.com/iris-top-entry-cat-litter-box/dp/183625?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=hg&utm_content=IRIS&utm_term=&gclid=CjwKCAjwxuuCBhATEiwAIIIz0TsLQfj1ik7tJa1vBqdN NSmhuwWCeBY6fNHM-ZelrZTFdIDlm43jiBoCc-wQAvD_BwE) only cute.
Both of them have figured out the slow feeder bowl but Loki dominates it and I can't put food in Gracie's normal bowl without having to lock Loki up in bathroom jail until she finishes because he actually does a remarkable impression of a Hoover.
Tonight, I threw a few treats on the floor to shake things up and exercise their hunting skills. All 'prey' met a timely end.
Other than Gracie spending some time in my lap today, everything else was same ole, same ole.

We have a "gifted" pair of cockatiels.
As most of the animals in this house, they came from a customer who could no longer keep them. We have had them over a year and assumed they were same sex. You know that saying about assuming. We noticed birdie boinking or cockatiel sex going on lately and thought that they were just bored. Um.....no. The other morning I found a tiny egg at the bottom of their cage. :| oh geeze. Gracie has licked herself raw in spots on her legs and it breaks my heart to see her uncomfortable. I've narrowed it down to the new litter, the reintroduction of food that previously was not a problem or she's become allergic to dandelions because those little tufts of white are EVERYWHERE now so I know I've tracked some into the house. I'll go get new litter tomorrow and return the boxes I just bought and see if I can dredge up the old brand of food from somewhere. The reason I switched was because the store wasn't carrying it anymore so I might have to head online for it.

Oh boy. Today was both my and Gracie's worst nightmare: a trip to the V.E.T. I almost had her on my first try but she's tiny and wiggly and FAST so it was another 10 minutes of me chasing her around the place before I could get her in the carrier. She cursed me out on the way there and then, while waiting for the tech to come out and get her, she turned away and refused to look at me.
Snarky lil sh*t, she is. Well, she gets it naturally, I say.
Anywho, the drama rose substantially as I was picking her up out of the tub (her hiding spot when scared or nervous) and trying to get her into the carrier when she started hissing and Loki, who insisted on getting in my way started hissing....at me or her, I couldn't tell....and he generally made a bad situation worse, as he likes to do. Have I mentioned that Loki is an asshole? A giant one, actually.
When Gracie came back, I let her back into her bathroom with some food since she got a steroid and it was dinner time anyway, and Loki barged in on her and tried to knock her on the hind quarters and hissed at her. Then he tried to steal her food. Oy vey. This happens any time they both don't go to the vet. One of them comes home smelling different and Loki, no matter if it's him or not, is a giant jerk and picks fights.
On a happy note, the vet thinks that we have some 'calming' options for Gracie. My theory that it was allergies causing her to scratch and lick and chew her fur off is correct. They aren't sure what is causing it but they gave her a steroid and an antibiotic and I'll watch her for a couple of weeks. If there's no improvement, back we go and this mess starts all over again.

No delicate way around outright saying it – Monte is pooping rocks! He did it occasionally way back when but it was rare. Switching to an all canned food diet and hitting on the right one, I had him almost as pretty and healthy looking as as the day he found me but then the company changed it's recipe. Now I've got him on what is supposedly the best canned cat food you can buy off the shelf but the problem is getting worse.
The vet has him on a little pumpkin added into his canned food until we can get him in. He doesn't think it's anything too serious or even if it is, something that will endanger his life if we don't take bold, aggressive measures, act immediately. So unless he gets worse all we can do is wait until they have an opening. The good news is though he was a bit apprehensive at first after we discovered he liked it he just wolfed it down.
I'm not sure what it could be if it isn't food, he drinks plenty of water no problem there, doesn't seem to be sick, straining or in any pain. It's an ongoing problem that seems to be getting worse despite my best efforts. All I can do is take comfort in the fact that he has a good vet and so far all his checkups have been fine. Once when I was concerned about something or the other, he had x-rays. Complete waste of money, his score - A+.
In better news J was able to get him penciled in at the kitty salon. I can't believe it's going to cost more than costs me to get my hair done and leave a tip! Well not a lot of choice I was only able to find two groomers in our area who work with cats. One from a bulletin board ad, the other a pet store employee. Both could be equally good but just in case I'm picking the one I'd find easier to sue the pants off as punishment if they harm my cat.

Last night was going well. I was finishing up in my journal and was going to head to bed early and then I heard the sound that just about every pet owner knows and dreads.
Loki blew chunks on the floor. I was thankful that he did it on the LVP flooring instead of the carpet so I cleaned it up and went back to getting ready for bed and then, there it was again. This time I wasn't so lucky. He nailed one of the rugs. Ugh.
I feel for him having an upset tummy but I do so wish he'd keep it on the tile or the vinyl. By the time I cleaned up the second round and took up his ammunition...I mean, the rest of his dinner...I wasn't sleepy any more so I cruised online.
And that is why it is Loki's fault that I spent way too much on Etsy and Amazon last night.

He was friendly when J brought him home, sought me out and accepted a few pats, circled his turf a bit, then plopped down and gave himself a spit bath. Just the spots where he was needle stuck for meds and labs. I was surprised to see him eating so soon after the procedure. The hygienist said to offer it but not to worry about how much he did or didn't eat. I offered a little and he ate every last bite. Now he's down for a nap and knowing he's okay I can feel a lot more relaxed. I'm lucky because the bill today was very close to the lower end of the quote and in addition J and my son paid part of Monte's vet bill for me as an early Mother's Day gift. Not today but last week. Our cat had kittens?! Who knows how she found Romeo because we live in the middle of nowhere but she got the deed done. She had six but one was born stillborn. She is a peanut so I am not sure how she even carried them to term. So now we have five dogs, seven cats/kittens, three roosters, five chickens, two horses, two cockatiels, one conure, one quaker, one yellow-naped amazon and a blue and gold Macaw. Help!
What, no partridge in a pear tree??

Bruno is doing everything he should. He's the perfect cat and housemate. He eats his food, uses his litter box, is not an escape artist, etc. He's just great. I'm the one with the issue. I'm having a hard time clipping his nails. My stomach turns at the thought of it. I'll just have to pay someone to do it till I can get a grip on this.
The worst I can say is that now he attacks my feet in the middle of the night. He gets on the bed and doesn't know that my feet (and not a toy mouse) is under the covers. It's not a problem since I don't have to be anywhere on most mornings. I'm amused by it. Could be worse. At one point I had wanted 2 cats, but Bruno is a loner so one is good.
Lucky me and Bruno.

The new 3 month old pup is learning I won't allow her in the kitchen. She's very smart! She has already learned Sit, Lay down, Paw, Dance, Over (step over a hurdle), Come Get It (crawl on her belly), Mat (which means sit on her little mat/towel that I use as "her spot" for training), and how to climb the front steps she was previously terrified of. She's going to make a great nursing home dog.
My other middle aged furbaby is not amused. She's quite the snob.

Well.. it appears that I have 2 sick cats. One appears to have a UTI so I have made an appointment to take him in to have that confirmed. The other has been throwing up. However, upon checking with My sister (who I got the second cat from) apparently this is a "norm" for him .. as he tends to have a nervous tummy of sorts. This might be true - but to be on the safe side I am going to take him in when I take My other cat in - and have him checked out just to be sure.
I will also say - neither of these "issues" stops either of them from being the crazy - running at full tilt - I want my snacks when I want them - cats that they are!
I love them to death - crazy critters!

Found out today that Brittany has a parasite, giardia. Worse, it can be transferred to people. Dealing with it is going to be a whole big thing - meds for 7 or 10 days (I forget which), during and after which everything has to be cleaned, Covid-style, including the area of the yard where she poops. Constant handwashing. I can't bear to crate her for that long, so I'm limiting her to her crate, the kitchen, and the hallway in between. I have plenty of baby gates, so no problem there. I'm going to put antiseptic wipes in every room.
Poor sick baby. I can't believe the shelter gave her to me in this shape. Well, maybe I can.

I stood outside in the rain from 11 p.m. to midnight, waiting for Brittany to poop. (She has to go in a different area of the yard now that she's taking this medication for giardia.) She kept refusing and trying to head in the direction where she usually goes. But I was determined to win!
I lost.
She is now locked in the kitchen, which will be easier for me to clean up than her crate if she has an accident. I'll go downstairs in about an hour and try taking her out again.

Poor Brittany is recuperating after her first heartworm injection of arsenic. She's moaning and groaning like she feels terrible - and I'm sure she does. It was a deep injection in her hip muscle. They gave me some pills for her pain, but they don't seem to have kicked in yet. And unfortunately, she has to go through it all over again tomorrow.
She won't take treats, so I had to pill her the old fashioned way. She was a trooper about that, though, I've never had such an easy time pilling a dog.
They assured me at the vet that she will be fine. I really, really hope so.

I love this time of year with my Moondoggy. My little granddaughters were over today and we’re sitting on the couch. Moon went and laid on the floor right in between the two of them and kept nudging their toes so that they would rub her with their feet. She loves those girls so much, and they love her equally back! It was such a wistful moment.

Brittany got her 2nd injection in her other hip today. I was afraid she was going to be reluctant about getting in the car, but she jumped right in.
This morning, before her trip to the vet, she seemed pretty fine. She ate and pottied as usual, and seemed happy. But now she is moaning and groaning again, although not as loudly as yesterday. I guess because she already had three doses of pain medication in her she was a little more prepared for today's shot.
Poor thing, she's tearing my heart out.

Brittany ate well, as usual.
Which leads to what I did today, actually. I'm looking for a good dog food for her which is grain free, or at least only has a little grain, high in protein, all the required vitamins and minerals, etc. Pedigree just isn't going to cut it. Blue Buffalo apparently has had lots of law suits because their dog food isn't all they say it is. I found a freeze dried one that is perfect, Dr. Something's, but it's way too expensive. Brittany weighs almost 60 lbs. and eats about 4 cups of dog food a day, and I just can't afford almost $100 for about 7 pounds of food. (I admit, I got an incredible one time deal on it, so I did get it and I've been using it to supplement the bag of Pedigree I bought her. But I can't afford the regular price.)
I found one called Taste of the Wild. It's grain free, made in the USA, and seems to meet most of my wishlist. But I've never heard of it before. Has anyone here ever tried it?
Or do you have anything else you'd recommend?

Is it Dr. Marty's that you got that's so damn expensive? I tried that too when I found a great sale on it and the cats looooved it but, as you mentioned, it's hella wicked expensive.
I haven't used Taste of the Wild but the reviews on Chewy.com are really positive. It can't hurt to try it as long as it's worked into her current feeding routine gradually. No upset tummies!

Monte had to get his kitty leukemia today but he was a really good about it. When he first came to live with me there would be a lot of yowling all the way to the vet, through much of the visit then all the way back. Today, other than for a little bit when buckling him in for his ride to he was quiet. On the way back he didn't fuss getting in. He didn't even make any noise while getting his shot.
Today I learned they no longer clip nails at the vet. I thought that was weird but since the place they referred me to is the one I already had in mind, that was reassuring. I wouldn't make an appointment with the vet just to have his nails done, pretty spendy for just that but as long as I was going to be there anyway or at least that's how it used to be.
Anyhow he's slept a bit more than usual, hasn't eaten as much but still had some, a little to sip too and been extra snugly, cuddly all day. So doesn't seem to feeling any ill will, harboring any resentments. Well enjoy it while you can Monte. Thursday is walk in day at the paw spa nail salon where now I'm told they're also doing ears. Oh won't you be delighted.

I'd never heard of a snuffle ball before. Since I have all these fabric scraps and won't need as many for cat size, or at least not sample cat size, I think I'll give it a try. Monte had been scarfing down treats so quickly I bought one of those puzzle dishes but it didn't take him any real time at all to figure that one out. He's just digging and flinging them out there like a miner who thinks he might spot gold. It doesn't look too difficult but backup plan – if I can't figure it out they're all over Etsy and it's not like I have to put a whole lot of thought and effort into it. I mean it's a cat toy not picking out a wedding band. Thanks for the idea!

We got her from the Humane society and they didn't let her old owners have her back because she ran away a second time...anyhow dogs are so amusing to watch. My adopted dog Trudy and my bratty rat terrier one day were in backyard jumping up in the air trying to get this blimp flying over. We live near a local airport. Those dog are lucky you are in their lives and I believe things happen for a reason... A friend of mine had a brindle boxer /pit mix and that dog was something else she would climb high chainlink in corner so they had to fix that. Her name was Cheyenne. New kitty Holly, escaped once again last week. I had neighbors report sightings. We tried to catch her. She just wasn't having it. I had to use a trap to save her from the cold. Well after catching a raccoon one night, finally lured her into a screened in porch.
I put my Mom's bedroom door back up so that Holly could be contained as my Mom went in and out to do laundry. Let's just say I'm not a carpenter. Especially when I use a lone screwdriver.
It's safe to say, Jellybean and Holly are starting to see eye to eye

Gracie has taken to charging me as I'm walking towards my computer. The two cat trees are set up next to the computer and she'll dash in front of me and zip up the tree. She gets up there lickity split but man, she cuts it so close, it's a game of chicken and I usually wind up hesitating so I don't squash her. Not a big deal usually but when I have a big plate of food in my hands, I wind up doing some sort of do-si-do dance to avoid her.
Loki has taken to trying to herd me when I'm making my breakfast (and thus, theirs as well). The knucklehead has gotten stepped on before doing this because he sneaks up directly behind me or to one side, not making a sound, and I go to move around the kitchen and wind up with a paw under my slipper. If I get him good, he gives me a wind berth for, maybe, an hour and then he's right back up underneath my feet. I can't tell if he's just very forgiving or has a goldfish's memory.

She is so wonderful to come home to! We are really bonding, and I can tell she missed me. Also, the boy told me she barely ate anything while I was gone. I fed her and she ate everything like she was starving; I also gave her a little bit of egg drop soup on her kibble (a Very Special Treat that she loves) and a bunch of treats in her snuffle ball. Brittany made her first escape attempt with me today.
I opened the kitchen door, and I was blocking it with my chair, but she scooted around it. I have done this blocking maneuver before and she couldn't get out, not even to bite food delivery people or religious proselytizers. Usually she just stands behind my chair and barks. But today she went for it.
She knew she was being annoying. She went to the middle of the carport, about 10 feet away from me, and started sniffing the air. I couldn't get to her fast enough, and she moved another 10 feet away. I guess the fresh spring air got to her, and soon she took off for the back yard.
I didn't get her back until I saw her down the street and I got in my car to go see if I could tempt her with treats. As soon as I started backing down the driveway, she came back to see what I was doing, and she very calmly let me put the lead on her.
I was a basket case for about 20 minutes. She and I have some training to do.

I finally have pet chickens again! Emerald, pizza, grandma, cookie, Joey, Jennifer, and Felix. All hens. (My grand daughters named some) today they laid an egg a piece. I’ve only had them a couple days and they’re already laying consistently! I am so proud of them! Sunday, I’m having some friends over and we’re putting up extra fencing, and we are adding an automatic door opener. It’s on a timer, so it will open at a certain time each day and close at a certain time each day. I have caught my husband standing outside, talking to them already! Lol. He felt he wouldn’t get attached, but I see, that’s not the case!

Monte was oh so Magnificent today and let me check his nails. I'm not sure what upset him last time I had them clipped at the vets but ever after he fought like crazy when I did them at home. So I took him to a place where all they do is trim nails, cats, dogs, rabbits, reptiles and more. They have little trailers set up in parking lots in different locations each open certain hours, on different days of the week. So there's always some place to have them done but depending on the day you might have to travel a bit if you can't wait. Oh except for Sabbath, they're closed at all locations on Sabbath. Anyhow it's very affordable and saves a struggle plus now he's calmly letting me examine his paws, hold them a bit again. Not like he used to but I'm sure that will come with time given how much progress has already been made. This time I also had them filed and his ears cleaned too. He was a champ. So today a little bit of examination. I'm making it a habit to check his paws a couple times a day not to clip or trim but just to get him used to and comfortable with having his paws handled again by making a routine of it. He can now paw and knead his blankets again, to his hearts content, without sticking. :)

Poor Brittany had to stay in her crate for seven hours today. I had lots of errands to run with the boi, in rush hour traffic. When I got home Brittany was so happy she had zoomies up and down the stairs. We played an extra long time tonight, and she got lots of pets and loves and treats. Tomorrow morning we get to go for a car ride! (No place bad, just to the grocery store for a pickup and I'm sure there will be a visit to a drive-thru for a treat!)

Warmer weather has brought a flurry of all three...
Squirrels have found their hidden stash/es of buried black walnuts from last fall. The freshly dug holes in my yard are proof.
Sasha who is part Lab/Golden Retriever has the eye sight and sniffer nose, was on yard guard duty. Today she was non-stop: Watch! Drop! Dig! Patrol! She ate at least 3 black walnuts (that I know of)
Gotta Love Em' :dog:
Today was : Lets find the baby-bunny nest!
Today was : Lets try to divert attention of the baby-bunny nest!
Today was : Lets try , lets try and again let's try!
Today was : Ring Around the Rosy of the baby-bunny nest located and dug up by Ms Sasha -
Today was learning that not all furry critters are lovable, nor a source of food or a squeaky new toy. Today was a trip to the veterinary clinic for bunny-bite stitches on the nose for Ms Sasha-and a trip to the adult beverage store for me!
TGIF folks! :shithappens:

Brittany had lots of fun with one of my dirty socks today (yuck) before I discovered her. I made her a giant knot out of a kitchen towel with treats tucked inside. It took her about 30 minutes to get it all undone. Right now she is snoring peacefully. It's kind of a comforting sound.

My new hens got out of the fence today and decided to take a stroll down the road! A neighbor stopped and knocked at our door to let me know the girls had gone wild, lol. I had recently fallen in the driveway, gave myself a blackeye. I was pretty sore all over. I knew I wouldn’t be able to catch them on my own so I brought my Moondoggy out to help me. Now Moon is a cross between a Maremma, which is like a great Pyrenees, and an English Shepherd, which is like a border collie. Livestock guard dog cross with a herding dog. Moondoggy knows she’s not allowed out of our yard but I pointed to the girls and said go get them, and wouldn’t you know I witnessed her run down the street and circle around them and bring them back to our yard and right into their fence! Now she joins me every night to get them into the coop! I must say I am very impressed with my Moondoggy ❤️

He's okay now but last night Monte decided to try his paw at sky diving. We were sitting in the living room calm as can be and all of a sudden he just leapt up and bolted out the sliding door leading out onto the balcony. In a flash he was gone. A woman out for a walk saw it all and was able to point me in the direction he went. I ran to look for him but didn't have to go far. He made it up the first and second flight of stairs and was sitting on the landing before the third just as I made it out the front door. He just waited for me to come pick him up then let me carry him up that last flight into the apartment. Inside he calmly let me hold him for a bit before wanting to be let down. I gave him a quick once over before letting him go but nothing too thorough, just enough to check for any bleeding, obvious signs of injury. I didn't want to do anything that might scare him more, cause him to run away from me. Anyhow after I set him down he just calmly walked over to one of his resting spots and laid low.
I called J and asked her to call the vet. They were able to get him in this morning. Well he is living testament to the fact that cats really do have nine lives. They said he's one lucky guy no obvious signs of injury. He doesn't even appear to have so much as a slight sprain, nothing upon exam, nothing on x-ray. This after taking a three story plunge! They gave him some medication to help with any pain well as infection just in case. It's cool the pills are disguised as cat treats and he just gobbles them up. So no having to struggle to get him to take his meds and that's a relief. The kids are going to help me put something up to help keep anything like this from happening again. You'd think this would terrify him enough to keep him off balconies for the rest of his life but no. He just keeps standing at the slider, whining and crying, begging to be let out. Who knows maybe he just wants more kitty drugs and thinks since it worked so well for him the last time, hey it's worth a shot, what can it hurt to try?

They wicked surprised me!
I was up early this AM and in the bathroom. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye I see something bolt out of the adjoining room, run through the bathroom, go out the door and head up the nearby stairway to the upstairs bedrooms. I knew it wasn't a wild critter as it had one white paw. A minute later there was a repeat by an animal with no white paw.??? Well Dorry cat, who had blessed us with 5 kittens over a year ago, had been looking a little chunky lately. As I hadn't seen any straggler cats around the farm I thought she was having a false pregnancy. Nope my bad. So now I know there are at least two more cats on the farm but who knows how many more there could be more.

Brittany is lying in her travel crate downstairs while I and a friend clean the house. Mostly Brittany is sleeping, but every now and then she wakes up and makes her displeasure at being kept in a crate known. Of course, I let her out occasionally, and give her treats, but there are too many chemicals and precarious piles of things around to let her run around the house. This has been going on for days, so I know she's tired of it. I'm sure I'll pay for it later.

Brittany faced the scariness of the vacuum cleaner and she handled it like a CHAMP! She stood up from her nap and looked at it curiously, but she wasn't anxious, no barking, no growling, just a sort of "Why'd you wake me up with this thing?" look, and she circled around and laid down and went back to sleep. She is such a good laid back dog.

Miss Brittany was so well behaved today! The plumber came over and told me he was afraid of dogs, especially big dogs. I told him I had already crated Brittany, but he insisted I follow him into the bedroom where she was crated and where the bathroom was where he would be working.
Brittany didn't utter a peep. She sat up and looked at the plumber, but soon lay back down again. She kept an attentive eye on the plumber from her crate, but not once did she bark or growl or act aggressive in any way. She did not freak out at the noisy equipment. She got lots of praise and treats when he left. I am so proud of her!

Brittany has decided that her favorite toy is: a tattered bath hand mitt.
I have purchased at least a couple hundred dollars worth of mind enhancing toys, chew toys, toys for her to play alone with and toys to play with me with, and she simply does not care. She likes the 99 cent bath mitt.
She likes it so much that I didn't have the heart to take it away from her. So now it's hers.

After my husband’s little Chihuahua died, I gifted him a beautiful rat terrier puppy. Tobias, a.k.a. Toby.
My husband works midnights, and he only works three days a week. The dog has been with him for a week and last night was the first day my husband had to go to work.
This morning I woke up to my husband, sobbing and calling for the dog. Evidently he climbed on top of a chair, and this little rat terrier (a year old) lifted up the window from a 2 inch opening, and pushed out the screen, and went running through the neighborhood!
Thankfully, we have an incredible community in our little town. We had a small army, literally, of people on foot and in cars looking for him. I was on Facebook, posting him, and posting sightings of him so people could go where he was last seen.
His breeder jumped in the car with her pack of dogs that he grew up with, and drove 40 miles to help look for him. She was the one who was able to finally get her hands on him!
My husband sobbed when he was placed in his arms. My husband is at work again tonight, but this time the chairs moved away, all the windows in the house are shut, and a dog crate is ordered, and on its way!

Brittany didn't eat much today at all, just a few bites. She seems to feel fine, though, she was playful and even frisky. Maybe she sensed that there are going to be thunderstorms here all night, and didn't want to have to risk standing out in it to poop. Or maybe she's holding out for more of the roast beef that was on its last day and that I already had two sandwiches from, so I gave her treats from it. Or maybe she's watching her figure. Hell, I don't know, those sounded good anyway.
Later: My doggo better not be psychic. She is hiding in the windowless hallway and panting like crazy. I swear, if another tree falls on this house, I will move.

Brittany rode in the car with her harness on. She was actually quite well behaved. I don't usually put it on her because we only take very short trips and I don't want to fight with her. (I know, I know, I'm a bad doggy mom. I'm trying to be better about using the harness.) But she didn't fight with me about it today, it was just kind of awkward because we're not used to it. I did worry less about having her in the car, and I didn't have to extend the "mom arm" out in front of her every time we turned a corner.

Brittany got a new collar today! That's not the really exciting part though - the exciting part is that she let me put it on her without a fuss!
I rubbed my bath towel all over it first so it would smell familiar to her. Then we had several sessions of me getting her to smell it, followed by a treat. Then I laid it over her neck - treat. Finally I was able to click it locked without her pulling away.
It shouldn't have been such an ordeal, but taking her old collar off was kind of traumatic for her. It was the same martingale-type collar with no buckle and no click-lock that she had gotten at the pet rescue place, and it had gotten a little too small for her. Pulling it off over her head was not fun for either one of us. Looking back, I should have cut it off with scissors.
Her new collar has a click lock - much safer and easier to remove if she gets tangled in something. Also, it is PINK. Her new name tag will arrive in a few days - it is rose gold and is engraved with a floral motif, in addition to all the important info. She will look like the pampered princess she is!

I lowered the temp in the house by one degree yesterday. Brittany seemed unaffected by it until we went to bed. She usually swirls her blankets around and then lies on top of them. But last night she somehow created herself a fort out of them, with herself in the middle. After swirling, she picked the blankets up with her teeth and moved them exactly where she wanted them. Then she put her stuffies behind her. She was like a bird building a nest. She was nice and cozy by the time it was done.

I'm so glad Ms. Sasha is doing better! I feed Ms Brittany Purina One High Protein Lamb, and she is doing very well on it. When I adopted Brittany I researched the available affordable dog foods and Purina One H.P. Lamb ranked very high. We have both been very happy with it. I do rarely feed her the Purina One H.P. chicken if the store is out of the lamb, and it seems to work well for Brittany also.

Brittany is learning two new tricks, and she had a breakthrough today on both of them!
The first trick is to catch treats that are thrown in the air. Today she finally figured out what it is that I want her to do! Previously, she was mostly just letting the treats fall and then eating them off the ground. But we worked on it, and tonight she finally started catching them in her mouth! She needs some practice to get more accurate, but she's at least trying, and she catches them about 20% of the time.
The second trick is to get up on my bed. I'm trying to teach her to do this with a hand signal and a voice command, and I put treats on the bed where she has to go farther each time to get them. She finally put both paws on the bed! Previously, she was just stretching as far as she could, and might put one paw on the bed. But tonight, she finally figured out it is okay to put both paws up on the bed and stretch really far. No telling how long it will take me to get her to jump on the bed, but we'll keep working on it.
She's so smart!

Brittany was taking a nap today and snoring loud enough to call the cows home. I tried to take a video of her, but as soon as my camera went "beep" she woke up and looked around suspiciously.
In other news, she is improving rapidly at her tricks. She almost always catches treats thrown in the air now - we're going to start working on distance. Also, she easily puts both her paws on the bed for a treat now, and even starts to crawl up - but she hasn't quite figured out that she can get on the bed yet.
My smart Brittany!

Brittany got herself caught today when she was being naughty. I was watching a show on my laptop and paused it to go to the bathroom. While I was in there, B. went into an area where she knows she is not supposed to go, which also just happened to be near where I left my paused laptop. Somehow, she accidentally touched the laptop and unpaused it, and the show I was watching started again. I made it back just in time to see her jump two feet in the air!

What a gratifying age to be for Ms Sasha!
She has overcome the anxiety of the local emergency sirens every Monday at 12pm noon-(loved to howl at them).
She has overcome the need to expel urine when greeting new comers and old comers alike when they visit-(bladder surgery was not an option).
She has overcome the need to chase the critters: furry and feathered alike-(they can eat and drink under her watchful eye though).
She can reserve her desire to devour all things edible-(Her reservation is a trait I could learn from).
Ms. Sasha has overcome living with her totally obsessed owner/caregiver/housekeeper who will forever be grateful that she is in her world for better or worse!

Brittany has gained 22 pounds. She weighed 57 before; now she weighs 79.
I didn't believe her vet's office when they told me I had ordered the wrong size of Nexgard for her weight. I took Brittany to their office and they reweighed her.
I don't know where she has put it though. That's a large percentage of her body weight. She doesn't appear to have any fat, though. She didn't seem underweight at 57 pounds either.
I thought she was about two years old when I got her, but maybe she was younger and she has just grown into her adulthood. I will have to ask the vet next time we see her.

Brittany turned my mattress pad and blanket into her new bed. I suppose it's my fault for leaving them on the floor after I stripped them off the bed, instead of putting them in the laundry right away. She swirled them around on the floor until they were to her liking, and promptly went to sleep. Now I kind of hate to take them away from her; she likes them more than she likes her doggy bed. I think I'm going to look and see if I have some old ones in the linen closet for her to have. If I don't find any, I'll see if Amazon has some less expensive ones.

It didn't happen today but I am thinking probably back on the day of the eclipse. I have a large barn (40X60) and at this point just about every bay is filled with "stuff". Out of all the cats I have had these past two years, I am finally down to four, my two originals, one I was going to bring to the Humane Society and then her sister (Pippie) who I was going to keep. Well, Pippie it seems, has graced me with a litter of kittens somewhere in that barn. Pippie is an indoor-outdoor kitten/cat and I had noticed she was getting chunky. Then a few days ago she started staying out all day and night. The last two days I have snuck down to the barn to see where she goes when she goes in there. I need to find the general location of those kittens so I can get them up to the house. The last two times I spied on her I was able to hear the kittens mewing when she returned after coming up to the house for a quick bite to eat. They seem to be in an area where I have about 30 boxes of things that are quazi stacked. Today will be spent figuring a way to move and restack the boxes so I can find those little rascals and get them up and into the house.

But she was so excited to see me! And when we got home, she had to check out her yard first, and then we went inside and she got excited all over again to see the boy. She then took a nap under the kitchen table. (She has a bed under there, and there's also an air vent down there that she likes to snuggle up to.) All was right in her world, and ours too.

Ok they are not my animals. I will call them my yard animals. My deer have been back and they are some darn big does roaming through the back yard. The turkey girls wandered through the front yard the other day and entertained me for a bit. I found my opposum in the tree outside my front door two nights ago and threw him some apple and bread. I had a male mallard in the pond a few days ago but he has been a no show as of late. He may have flown down to the lower and bigger pond about 100 yards away from the house. Their colors are beautiful. My newest visitor is Yogi. I have found him in my front yard twice now. As I normally throw the front door open for the dogs to go out, I am worried there could be an incident. I posted him on Facebook (Kc Cunningham) and most comments are about his size. I am sad to say if he is here a couple more times, I am going to have to call Fish & Game. Lastly, when I went to let the dogs out last night I did a front yard check with my lantern light. That was met by the glowing eyes of a huge fox running through the front yard. That put the door opening back about 15 minutes which was followed by a half hour of a doggie sniff fest out there when they finally were released.

I bought Brittany a weird new present:

This is what it looks like unrolled:

It took me 14 minutes to roll up all of the ribbons with a treat in each one. Brittany looked at me dubiously for a few seconds after I gave it to her, but once she sniffed it, she figured it out pretty quickly:

Now she is studiously unscrolling it in the hallway.

Brittany had an upset tummy again today. I have got to figure out what she's getting into and get rid of it. It has to be something in the yard. But nothing identifiable "comes up". Maybe she just has a sensitive tummy.

Surprised me! I'm down to Dorrie and Pippie for cats. Pippie was looking a little pregnant early this summer but I was hoping for a false pregnancy. Nope. Yesterday she showed up with 3 kittens down by the garage. They are around 6 weeks old. One is ok with getting picked up and the other 2 are feral as hell.

Spent her last day in doggie boarding school. I'm back from our vacay and will pick her up tomorrow. I missed her so much!

Brittany played quite a bit today. She also napped a lot. This evening she watched game 2 of the World Series with us.

little Miss Holly wanted to run outside this morning. I warned her it was a little chilly, 42° . I told her she didn't have mittens!
She lasted about 3 min and was wanting back in. I soon saw her laying on the floor vent with warm heat coming in. She cracks me up!
And lately the two kitties have been getting along a little better. Sure they chase each other, but less hissing and showing of the teeth. A Christmas 🎄 miracle.

Brittany was "at attention" when the delivery guy brought the groceries, but she was not straining to get away or lunging. She's so good!

Two of four pups enjoyed keeping me company on the cedar swing in the sunshine.
Blade's pup has watched football with him all day.
My senior pup is doing good on her new meds and has rested comfortable today.
The youngest 2 pups played hard today and crack me up how much they adore each other.

Brittany started learning how to catch things that aren't thrown straight at her. She's already good at catching things that are thrown high, but not so good at judging how to move from side to side. By the time we finished, she was starting to get it. She had the concept, just not the moves yet.

Holly kitty chased a little pink balloon I blew up. I put it on the floor, actually thinking it would scare her. She batted it and was more interested in the little knot to tie the balloon. It was so cute. Well that lasted for a little while, until it got stuck.
I found it and pushed it towards her. She played with it until it popped. I didn't see her, so I don't know if she jumped or not. Lol. She was definitely curious about the remains of the balloon.
I'm definitely going to do that again!

Brittany is sick to her tummy. She hasn't been able to keep any of her dog food down for two days. Today I just fed her a banana, and when she did okay with that, I scrambled an egg for her. So far, so good. I will give her a little bit of pumpkin and some rice tomorrow and see how she does with that.

Brittany has been doing well for three days with increasing amounts of egg, banana, pumpkin and chicken broth/rice. Tomorrow I will start adding small amounts of her regular food and see how she does with that.
I'm also going to start feeding her three times a day with a slow feeder bowl (instead of twice a day out of a regular bowl). Slow feeder bowls are on sale at Chewy!

My cats are being lazy freeloaders. A friend of mine got me "cat crocs" and I tried to do a photo shoot with them wearing the crocs but they gave me a hard "no". Now they are sleeping next to their abandoned shoes.

Brittany has continued to not be able to keep her dog food down, but we tried it again today - just a half scoop, with some pumpkin, and chicken broth rice with some pumpkin for another meal. I also gave her half a banana and an egg for another small meal. She kept it all down so here's hoping.
I caught her trying to eat paper twice, and I got to her before she swallowed any, so that may be part of her problem. She loves to make confetti. I had no idea how much paper was in my house until I had a dog who could find it anywhere.

We finally figured out the source of Brittany's tummy problem; I had accidentally bought her the high protein dog food instead of the regular. The labels for Purina One are very similar, and I had ordered it delivered by Kroger, so I did not have a chance to closely inspect the bags at the store.
I told my sister about the problems Brittany was having, and she said the same thing happened to my niece's dog. Her vet explained that it happens all the time when people get the high protein version of their dog food. (And hers was Pedigree, not Purina One.)
So we threw out the high protein food, got the right food, and started giving it to her in small and then ever-increasing amounts along with her "sick" food (rice in chicken broth, pumpkin, egg). For a few days now she has been completely back on her regular food with no problems, and she's had a few small Pup-peroni pieces as rewards, and she's had a couple of half bananas. She's doing just fine.
I really want to spread the word about that high protein food, though. There may be some hard-working dogs who need it, but it seems like it makes an awful lot of dogs sick.

I probably shouldn't be thinking about changing Brittany's diet so soon after we got her tummy straightened out, but have any of you tried an air dried kibble, like The Pet's Table? I did try Brittany on Dr. (somebody's) dog food once and she liked it, but it was way too expensive. The Pet's Table is about the same as what I spend on Purina One. Do you have any experience with it?

I often give B a single knotted dish towel with treats wrapped up in it for her to untie and get the treats out. But today I double knotted the towel. She gave me kind of a dirty look. and it didn't take her very long to figure out how to unknot it. I didn't think it would, but I was afraid she might not even try. No problem, she went for those treats!

Brittany got into the kitchen trash this morning when I wasn't looking. By the time I heard the tell-tale, soft "lick-lick-lick" coming from under the table, her bed was already full of trash. She's so sneaky! She usually only does this when I've been baking; she stole butter wrapping papers and a silver cream cheese wrapper and box this time. It wouldn't be so bad if all she did was lick the papers, but she eats the papers after she licks all the good stuff off and then gets sick. Fortunately, I'm pretty sure I caught her before she ate any of the wrappers. Silly dog! :dog:

I have a new foster dog :) She's a big husky. We have taken many walks and taken lots of drinks and went to meet her potential adoptive family. She's so sweet. She's afraid of crates so last night I slept downstairs on the couch with her next to me on her bed. We will do that again tonight.
