my heart hurts..........I made the decision to rehome my riding horse. I cannot physically handle a full sized horse anylonger. I have serious hip problems that are going to take two years worth of surgeries and rehab to make functional again. I cannot see her spending two years in a pasture, and I cant justify the board for her for that long without me being able to ride her. Just as I made the decision to rehome her to a dear friend (who had made me feel so comfortable in rehoming her) I was told she cant take her for three more months. I need to let go now that I have "let go" psychologically and I will not emotionally be able to handle waiting three more months to release her to someone else. I am in a quandry now...I have other options but she was the best. I dont know what to do...and my heart aches figuring out what to do

a little disappointed because ...
We have not been alerted to stay home today ... and I am not up to negotiating this possibly icy pigtrail (it is paved) road out of my back woods. The road is all up and down little deep hills and very sharp curves to the main road.
I just am lazy. I won't be in any danger. It is a morning to stay in bed and snuggle buggle with Jennifer and Kevie.
Need to get my butt in gear, leave extra early so not to be late for work.
Hope everyone who is experiencing actual winter weather is extra careful.
Be Safe and Hugs to All!

I am feeling content, happy, safe, warm.
My county put out a bulletin that all roads from my home outbound for 15 to 20 miles closed at 6:00 p.m. this evening and will remain closed until 9:00 a.m. tomorrow unless they extend it. There may be snow on the ground in the morning but I will believe it when I see it. For Kevin and Jennifer's sake, I wish for snow ... all my dogs from the past loved playing in it.
We have everything we need. Stocked up on lots of groceries and snack treats ... but did not buy any more of those LITTLE DEBBIE CHOCOLATE SWISS CAKE ROLLS. I made a pig of myself recently by eating way too many of those and almost damn near died. Felt greenish and putrid after the hella sugar rush subsided. It actually affected the way I felt for a couple of days.

Very happy! Too excited to wait the kids paid for an early ultrasound. So far everything looks good - all the appropriate parts and pieces in correct working order – nothing missing, nothing duplicate. She’s having a boy and my son is ecstatic, his older brother is very excited too. He tried to give the baby image on the big screen a toy. It was so sweet and it would have been great to have a picture of it but no cameras or cell phones allowed in the exam room. In any case I’m sure it’s something our family will be remembering - talking and reminiscing about for a very long time.

I'm unclear, have you tried it?
I thought the same thing! I swim, scuba, snorkel, etc... I've plenty of times had (sea, lake, river, pond, etc.) water up my nose and down my throat... who the hell would want that!! But... that's not how it works.
I only started having allergies and sinus infections since I've been in Texas. After several Neti recommendations I finally caved and bought something similar from Walgreens...
https://pics.drugstore.com/prodimg/459118/450.jpg
So, I followed the directions ... making sure I had the "swisher" (what I call it) at the right angle... it doesn't feel like water up the nose at all.
Based on what friends have said re: the Neti ... the style I bought is better... more comfortable. The Neti requires you to tip your head to the side... an awkward angle. The Neti doesn't allow you to control the amount of water that flows into your nose or the pressure with which it enters. The style above is much easier and better ... you tilt your head down a bit and apply pressure to the container. You control volume and pressure.
If it a go! Or maybe try the one above. I resisted a sinus rinse for a few years, it made no sense!! Now I use it as soon a lil congestion in my nose ... the first signs of a pending infection.
Oops...
If it a go! = Give it a go! ;)

The underlined portion is one issue. The other is that I am easily triggered in that regard. I was in a radio contest and had to stuff as many marshmallows in my mouth as possible. I got most of them in, but could not breathe.
I'm glad that works for you but nothing goes up my nose but a tissue and baby fingers if I don't catch them fast enough.

If using a NetInfo pot, be aware of the potential danger and always use distilled water and properly clean the pot.
From the New York Times:
Rare Infection Prompts Neti Pot Warning
By TARA PARKER-POPE SEPTEMBER 3, 2012 5:20 PM September 3, 2012 5:20
THE WELL COLUMN
Neti pots — those odd teapotlike vessels used to wash out the nasal passage — have won legions of fans who rely on them for relief from allergies, congestion and colds.
But now, after two cases of a deadly brain infection were linked to neti pots, government health officials have issued new warnings about using them safely.
The Food and Drug Administration last month reported on two cases in Louisiana in which patients contracted infections after using neti pots filled with tap water. The culprit was an amoeba called Naegleria fowleri, which is commonly found in lakes, rivers and hot springs.
This kind of infection is exceedingly rare, but it usually occurs when people get water up the nose after swimming or diving in lakes or rivers; Naegleria fowleri can travel from the nose into the brain, where it causes primary amoebic meningoencephalitis, a disease that destroys brain tissue and is almost always fatal. In 123 known cases from 1962 to 2011 in the United States, only one person has survived, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Last year, Louisiana state health officials reported on two unrelated deaths — of a 20-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman who were believed to have been infected by tap water later found to be contaminated with Naegleria fowleri. Both had used tap water in a neti pot. (Because stomach acid kills the amoeba, drinking contaminated water does not lead to infection.)
As a result, the F.D.A. has issued new warnings reminding consumers to use distilled or filtered water in a neti pot. They can use bottled water, or they can boil water and let it cool before using.
Doctors say the new warnings should not dissuade people from using a neti pot, which can be a safe and effective home remedy for allergies and congestion.
To use a neti pot, a person mixes water with a saline packet to create a mild saline solution. Leaning over a sink, the user inserts the spout of the pot into a nostril, allowing the water to wash up inside the nasal passage and flow out the other nostril. Nasal lavage bottles can also be used, although it is important not to squeeze the bottle too hard.
“Initially it’s a weird sensation, but if you’re congested and it washes out some of that stuff, you’re much less miserable,” said Dr. Rohit K. Katial, a professor of medicine and allergy specialist at National Jewish Health, a respiratory hospital based in Denver. “People end up really liking it because they feel refreshed — it’s wellness with water.”
Several studies show that regular nasal irrigation can reduce symptoms of allergies and congestion. One 2008 study found that children with severe allergies were less reliant on steroid nasal sprays if they regularly rinsed their nasal passages.
“One of the primary functions of the nose is filtration,” Dr. Katial said. “That’s where you capture all the pollens and particulates. Irrigation is the way to wash some of that out, and we think it’s very beneficial and we use it fairly extensively in our patients.”
Doctors say it’s important to keep the risk of Naegleria fowleri contamination in perspective. Most cases are in the South, although some have been documented in the Midwest and as far north as Minnesota.
Millions of people swim and dive in lakes and rivers each year, yet from 2002 to 2011 there were only 32 reported Naegleria fowleri infections, according to the disease centers. By comparison, from 1996 to 2005, the most recent period with available data, the United States had more than 36,000 drowning deaths.
With neti pots and other forms of nasal lavage, the greater risk comes from improper cleaning. Bacteria or fungi can form on the spout of a used neti pot or in a partly used nasal lavage bottle. Regular use of an improperly cleaned neti pot or contaminated lavage bottle can lead to chronic irritation or allergies.

I feel amazing.
I spent the last 13 hours perched at my dining table while sipping loads of coffee and working on an important project. It's done. My project. And I'm pretty satisfied and happy with the results.
And I had amazing support while doing it.
And sometimes it's a damned good reminder that putting stuff down on paper is not only a manifestation of desires but reparative to your self-doubt.
Therapy comes in many forms. I was glad to see the razor-toothed mermaid girl again while I did it. It's been far too long :praying:
I feel happy.
I love my work, home, family, friends, and my kitties.

Very good—better than I have in awhile.
I came across someone on the internet I haven't seen in decades. I reached out and they reached back. We had a good conversation and it reminded me of some things I'd forgotten about myself.
I'm not sure what, if anything, will come from this conversation, but I'm so glad I had it. I'm so glad I took a chance and reached out.

How am I feeling?
I am totally freaking out. I went out to the truck a little while ago to put a recharged battery in my drill before I forgot.
I was standing at the open back door of my truck, trying to jiggle the battery into the drill. Suddenly there was a gosh awful noise coming from my back woods that made my blood run cold. It was like agony, pure agony... then another sound followed, it sounded like sarcastic laughter a clown devil creature would make. I tossed the battery and drill in the truck (unattached to each other) and tried to appear calm while walking to the backdoor. Blair Witch Project movie started creeping my mind.
No, I have not relapsed, can't blame it on drugs/alcohol.
I have heard other unidentifiable, frightening noises coming from these woods since I moved here. I always go online and find audios of what it could be. So far, the previous ones have been owls. Perhaps it is a different type owl I have not heard before tonight.
Or maybe ...
IT'S DAY ONE OF THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!!!
Yikes, I'm skerred, are you??

Zombies are more into moaning than screaming, so you should be safe from them, RockOn.
Maybe a pack of hyenas made a kill? The first sound could be the death scream of whatever they killed and the laughing could be the pack.

I'm actually feeling calm, at peace, and happier than I have been in a really long time. I'd much rather work at a job I LOVE and look forward to going to every day, even though it doesn't pay much, than work at a job I dislike that stresses me out, that I dread waking up and going to each day, but pays real well. Money doesn't buy happiness and life is too short. Sure, I eat ramen noodles a lot more now but getting to work at a dog kennel is soooooo worth it!

I have done all those things you suggested. My County Wildlife CO-OP Extension guy and I are on first name basis. He told me to kill the copperheads when I can safely do so because there is an over-abundance in my area in the pine woods ... I thought "tell me something I don't already know." He said he can come out and do something about the coyotes if they are a problem. I told him not to come. I just go and fire several of my guns on the hunting property at the dead end across the road about once every few weeks. That takes care of the coyotes and lone wolf.
My neighbors are not outside much, especially at night. I have talked to them, they hear coyotes howling in the distance is all they report except for seeing and killing an occasional copperhead. They don't work outside during the day like I do. (examples:clearing pinewood mulch down to the bare dirt, then bagging and hauling it away ... removing stumps. I will soon be cutting down pine trees - only the ones I can handle by myself without logging equipment. That will help a lot. I already have tagged the ones I can cut down and haul in pieces.
And yes, I have done many, many hours of research online to get a full list of all the wildlife. Before I go to bed, I have to find out if silver foxes are in this area. I think that is what I saw today.
*shuffling feet*
Well ... ummm .... uhhh ... uhhh ... so are you still coming for a weekend to determine if I have ZOMBIES?

Took off 4 inches and a lot of bulk and flat-ironed me into submission. I look 10 years younger and 20 pounds lighter and wish I had done this so much sooner! Needless to say, new hair artist in my arsenal and feeling so lucky to have found such a talented woman.

Tired. Have worked for a couple weeks (at least) without a full day off. Have taken a morning here or an afternoon there, but that's about it. Hopefully, I won't have to work this weekend. And I think I can take Friday off even if I do have to work this weekend. There is that, said the sloth to the snail.

Weed whacked the backyard
Picked up the dry cleaning
Bought 40 lb bags of horse pellets at the tractor store
Grocery shopped
Put groceries away
Cleaned the litter box
It was the first day I could lift since getting out of the hospital :hangloose:

How do I feel? Profoundly sad for everyone affected by this election-especially for the Detroit patients that need the Canadian nurses because we don't have enough American nurses in the city to fill positions!
Trump visa changes keep Canadian nurses from Detroit hospitals
USA TODAY NETWORKMatt Helms, Detroit Free PressPublished 10:45 p.m. ET
March 16, 2017 |
DETROIT — Specialized Canadian nurses have been stopped from entering the U.S. to work at metro Detroit hospital systems, and many more could lose their ability to work here under the Trump administration's visa changes, one of the region's largest health systems warned Thursday.
Officials from Henry Ford Health System, which operates five metro Detroit hospitals, said registered nurses with advanced specialties — including nurse anesthetists and nurse practitioners — may no longer qualify for NAFTA Professional visas.
The non-immigrant NAFTA visas, also called TN visas, allow citizens of Canada and Mexico to work in the U.S. "in prearranged business activities for U.S. foreign employers," according to the State Department.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection, however, denied late Thursday any policy change had occurred.
Canada's CBC News reports that as many as 40,000 Canadians work on TN visas in the U.S.
Marc Topoleski, an immigration lawyer representing Henry Ford Health System, said about 400 Canadian nurses work for Henry Ford, and about 30 of them are nurse practitioners or nurse anesthetists. Hundreds more work for the region's other major health care systems, including the Detroit Medical Center, Beaumont and St. John Providence.
Topoleski said the health system and hospital operators in U.S. border states around the country are scrambling to understand U.S. Customs and Border Patrol changes that could have a dramatic impact on providing care because of a critical shortage of nurses with advanced specialties.
Patti Kunkel, a Windsor, Ontario, area resident who's been a nurse in Detroit since 2000, said she's worried that she may be stopped at the border and her privileges to work here revoked because she's a nurse practitioner, a registered nurse with advanced training able to diagnose and treat illness and prescribe medication to patients.
"We are already short-staffed," Kunkel said at a news conference this afternoon at Henry Ford's administrative offices in Midtown Detroit. "We are all overworked because of being short-staffed, so going down one more is going to be very difficult on my team as well as myself, because I will be at home. I already feel guilty when I can't come in for overtime because I'm burned out."
Kunkel said her current visa doesn't expire until 2018, but she said she and other nurses are worried that their visas could be revoked at any time.
In a statement released Thursday evening, however, U.S. Customs and Border Protection denied there had been any step-up in enforcement.
"U.S. Customs and Border Protection has not had any policy changes that would affect TN status," said the statement emailed by Kris Grogan, public affairs officer. "One of the most common issues CBP sees is improper paperwork presented by the traveler in relation to the position classification they are applying under. Another common issues is the lack of proper documents needed to grant a TN non-immigrant classification."
It added: "U.S. Customs and Border Protection is currently working closely with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for greater clarity in regards to specialized categories that fall under the registered nurse classification."
Topoleski said Customs officials have told him and other lawyers little about the changes that apparently are a part of President Trump's overhaul of immigration laws and a crackdown in the North American Free Trade Agreement, the 1994 agreement between the U.S., Canada and Mexico to liberalize trade between the nations. Trump has pledged to renegotiate NAFTA, blaming it for significant American job losses.
Topoleski said Customs officials are saying that the advanced nurses skills are "too advanced" for them to fit under the registered nurse category, although the nurses are still, indeed, registered nurses.
"Our argument is the opposite, that Marsince those two jobs require as a foundational requirement that you have to be a registered nurse to even perform those jobs, that is why it should continue to be considered under the registered nurse category," Topoleski said. "To say that, because they're advanced or have a more advanced duties or require more advanced education, that they're still not at their core registered nurses just doesn't make a lot of sense to us."
Topoleski said Henry Ford is exploring whether to get more of its specialized nurses H-1B visas, which are issued to highly skilled workers. But that process potentially could take six months and would cost health providers significantly more money — about $4,000 for H-1Bs compared with $200 for TN visas.
It's an expense he said Henry Ford will make if it must, although he said he believes the money is better spent on patient care instead of bureaucratic visa changes. In the meantime, he said, it could put hundreds of specialized nurses at risk of not being able to get to their jobs for months while they await new visas.
Topoleski, a member of a nationwide task force of immigration lawyers, said he has heard from other attorneys around the country about advanced nurses being turned away at the border. He said it primarily is impacting northern border states because similarities in education education and training in the U.S. and Canada make it easier for American health providers to hire Canadian nurses.

First day I feel like my old self after 3 weeks of serious fall and then the flu. Rough month.

I woke up early thinking about work and clinching my jaw.
So, I put on an old movie, had some breakfast, and hot Irish tea then I fell asleep. I just woke up and I feel refreshed.

A bit relieved. We had a stressful and confusing Friday night when we were supposed to get an email letting us know if my daughter was accepted into her top college of choice, and not getting any email. This created a stressful weekend of wondering what the heck happened and having to wait until this morning to speak to admissions.
Turns out that because she's a transfer student, she finds out later- and we will find out tomorrow evening.... so we are on the edge of our seat again waiting. But very relieved that they delay was not due to a faulty application or some other problem with consequences.
