Sidebar: You've been reading my mind, homoe! *lol* :giggle:

Have you ever wondered why it is that speaking in terms of metaphor seems to carry far more weight than speaking in clear, unvarnished terms ???

Use of social idioms in common ways people communicate to each other is a long time personal hobby of mine. I am curiously fascinated by all the many ways people use social and culturally significant terms of expression in everyday ways and means to communicate what's on our mind.

I appreciate you so very much! :balloon:

I don't know that this holds up to be true, either. When relationships fail, sometimes people will remark that it's because one or the other experienced the proverbial "seven year itch."

I've always believed, that if the term Universe is defined primarily as an intangible interest, such as our own world view or ourselves (tangible), then anything you set your heart on to believe or do will almost always be something a person brings to life.

In other ways, there's also the chance you could be promoting a particular bias or belief.

So, in general terms, I think this saying is pretty much true.
In other ways, I think it's wise to check your sense of sensibilities and act wisely, if not with a generous dose of caution.

Skeletons In The Closet..............

A secret source of shame, potentially ruinous if exposed, which a person or family makes efforts to conceal...
For the most part, this expression holds true EXCEPT when another person does not know all the facts about any particular situation. It's definitely not wise to assume one is in possession of all the facts because there's ALWAYS the proverbial "Ace up one's sleeve." And, just because one chooses to not speak publicly about any some such perceived "skeleton in the closet " does not always mean it's a 'skeleton' that brings shame upon the person or people affected by the so-called "skeleton in the closet."

"A sight for sore eyes".......

"According to Hoyle".......

Handwriting Is On The wall.................

A clear sign that something unpleasant or unwelcome is going to happen... OR --- as I prefer to say, due to my heavier than usual study of communication (organizational, human, interpersonal or family or law or social media --- to name a few categories of specialty studies), people often leave clues to any sort of thought process or motive or intent via the way the communicate x, y or z types of things.

"To Travel Hopefully Is A Better Thing Than To Arrive"........

Hope and anticipation are often better than reality....

And, sometimes it's the way a person perceives their own reality. Perception is key toward understanding. Sometimes reality is far better than what one could possibly imagine.

"Wing It".............

To do something with in an impromptu manner, improvising, with little preparation. This is a favorite expression I use often.....I think it's wise to have and cultivate an expansive repertoire of talent, logic, "tools of the trade" in order to be able to adapt or adopt at any given moment. Having the ability to do such a thing is valuable, if not life saving.

Where Your Heart On Your Sleeve...............

I love this expression too. Under the right conditions, I'm known to "wear my heart on my sleeve".......

Aside from the late 1980s TV show namesake, which covered the lives of a small group of students attending fictional Bayside High School, this idiom is often is often said when a boxer suddenly revives from a knockout punch and is able to get up before the bell rings.

Or, it's likely said by students when the recess bell rings to go home, preventing anymore last minute assignments or testing to be dealt with, especially if they're anxious to go hang out with friends after school.

Or,,,,it might be said by anyone who might not wanted to have responded to an email or text and suddenly something occurs which prevents them from having to take immediate action, hence they are saved by the 'bell'.
