Which term(s) do you prefer?

There is not a term I like
I say G/F a lot, but that does not quite cover it.

Special friend and long time companion sounds so.....

Hmm... sometimes gf, sometimes boo, sometimes boi, sometimes babylove, sometimes Papi, sometimes significant other...just depends on the situation and who I'm speaking with. Only once have I ever called anyone wife. And I don't usually use the term partner when refering to anyone because for me personally it just sounds too...hmm...understated is the word I'm looking for I guess, too sanitized. It doesn't really elicit "emotions" to me. It just brings up visions of the financial world...lol

My dad is very cool with who I am and who I date, but he's not always confident in expressing terms related to such...lol When Pajara and I started dating my dad would always say things like "how's your friend" or "is your friend coming to visit" and he would always look kinda shy and bashful while saying it, and that absolutely tickled me. Then he got more confident to the point where he would say "your friend" in that eyebrow waggle *wink wink* kinda way which cracks me up. He's finally started calling her by her name, but we still use the *wink wink* version sometimes when we're talking about certain things. My mother (the closet perv) may be oblivious and/or in denial to things that go on in her daughter's relationship, but I get my pervy-ness from my dad so we're on the same page...LOL

I always balked at the term partner because it seemed to be so...I don't know...conforming. I have been married once and she was referred to as wife. I refer to Dixie as gf to the public, and a plethora of pet names in private (my favorite being Miss, especially when she pulls the hair up). As to what I want to be called....hmmmm lately boi or Papi have been new monikers I am embracing. Gf works for me too.
