WOOT!!!

SF took the first game vs AZ! And I hear the Pirates won yesterday, too! We had some great offense- Beltran got it going! Keppinger, Huff and Ross woke up, too!!

Let the september scrapping begin!! And with tejada gone, Crawford was called back up- YES!! Love those hands!! And he has potential with a bat.

I saw some clips last night and looks like Verlander and team are doing just fine! Since SF played the interleague series with Detroit, I have been watching them in the AL.

We had 6 runs last night to back up Matt Cain and it was a very sweet sight! So, we shall see.......

Hi Yellow-

These owners are just greedy pigs. They dont care about the fans bc they still get a cut of the other MLB teams $$. So, as long as they sell tickets they won't do anything to help the team bc they dont love the game. Its just another business they own, like another shoe store they happen to own.

Hell, I'd love to have a business that made 30 million a year. But they dont love the game. I hate to say this, and I mean NO OFFENSE, but it reminds me of the Yankees...they sucked until Steinbrenner bought them, bc he loved baseball and wanted to win for the fans and for the players and for the franchise. He bought the team and turned it into what it is bc he had passion. It wasnt just a business to him.

You mention the catcher Michael McKenry. He does look great. But, 90% throw out rate is pretty high...unless you were just teasing me. Why the heck dont they bring him up? Paying 5 mil for Doumit is absurd when you got that guy in the minors, kwim?

ALH,

Are the Giants having a rummage sale or something? Rowland and Tejeta (spelling is wrong I know). Why are they up for reassignment or maybe I should ask why did they wait so long to do it?

Sox lost to Yanks yesterday but rebounded today. Safe for the moment but the September schedule is brutal.

Hi Kobi...you dig the Sox? I'm a Yankee fan. It's been a great race so far this year, hasnt it? You have a good looking team this year. I love when the Sox play the Yanks....can't beat it. Nothing like a friendly rivalry between teams.

Hi Yellow-Hi Hunter

These owners are just greedy pigs. They dont care about the fans bc they still get a cut of the other MLB teams $$. So, as long as they sell tickets they won't do anything to help the team bc they dont love the game. Its just another business they own, like another shoe store they happen to own. I understand it's a business, and you should be profitable.....but gee, can we please compete? We even gave the newspaper owners a taxpayer funded ball park!

It wasnt just a business to him.I'm aware of that story. It gives me hope!

You mention the catcher Michael McKenry. He does look great. But, 90% throw out rate is pretty high...unless you were just teasing me. Why the heck dont they bring him up? Paying 5 mil for Doumit is absurd when you got that guy in the minors, kwim?Micheal McHenry is here, hoping he is here to stay. He was brought here when Doumit was crushed on a play at the plate and broke his ankle, and our other catcher blew out his back two days later. Our own minor league prospect (talk about bad luck)
was hit by a pitch in the side of the head and had a fractured jaw. So here comes Micheal McHenry. He flourished
apparently because of desire. It's a feel good story. I think
as I have been saying, Doumit will no longer be a pirate next year. Rumors for two years that they have been trying to trade him. But always injured. He can hit. This incident of sloppy play is not Doumit like. He's playing today....and playing his heart out. I think he saw his fate on the sports wheel. Sad.

Patiently waiting the Detroit-Chicago (White Sox) game at 4. I watched the game last night, with Justin Verlander dominating the Sox. If you get a chance to watch Verlander pitch this year, take a look. He's won 21 games this season, and he is (I hope) the top Cy Young candidate. He is completely dominating other teams. Just a great pitcher to watch.

braves 81 and 56 wow!

but 8 1/2 behind the Phillies. The Phillies are that good!

6-4 yankees are winning at yankee stadium! Yanks will pick up a half game if they finish this.

David Huff pitches tonight for the Indians.....(my second favorite team)

5 to 3 in a rain delay Pirates at Chicago, and Loosing. They can call this, it's 7 1/2 played.

Me too- can't imagine him not getting the Cy Young this season. That, from a big time, Tim Lincecum fan- but he has won it twice and Verlander's stats are better. I saw some of the clips last night- nice game, Tigers!!

The Giants better beat the Dbacks again tonight!! And it looks like the Pirates are picking things up! The Red Sox game was great!! Damn, Cody ross made one hell of a sliding catch in lest field last night for SF!!

Hunter,

I am a die hard Bosox fan. I forgive you for being a Yankee fan. LOL.

It has been a great race this year. Good for the spirit tho not for the nerves.
As usual, it seems it will go down to the wire for division champ vs wild card.

Both teams look great despite their respective injury problems throughout the season. And both teams kick it up a kotch when they play each other.

Will be fun!

Without meaning to go off-topic, I thought I'd go down memory lane slightly with this post. As I've mentioned previously on this thread, I've very little interest in modern day baseball but have a strong interest in vintage baseball history and imagery, esp. relating to the NY Yankees and NY Giants.

Despite my fascination with the 1920s Yankees, Babe Ruth has never been one of my real sporting heroes (Lou Gehrig has always captured my imagination much more as has Phil Douglas of the Giants) but I was fortunate enough to purchase these two original photos from the archives of the Chicago Tribune this weekend.

These photos are interesting, given that they capture the man very close to his death. The first of the photos was taken at Monogram Studios in May 1948 with Ruth looking into the camera at scenes from the forthcoming Babe Ruth Story. William Bendix, who played Ruth in the movie, is also pictured. With Ruth critically ill, the movie was rushed through production so that Ruth could attend the premiere, which he did on 26th July, weeks before his death:

http://i926.photobucket.com/albums/ad103/ulyssesgq/ruth1.jpg

The second photo was taken in Baltimore in August 1948, just before his last trip to hospital where he died on 16th August. At this stage, Ruth was gaunt, ravaged by cancer and unable to speak.

http://i926.photobucket.com/albums/ad103/ulyssesgq/RUTH2.jpg

Neither photo is particularly attractive, for good reason, but vividly capture the final days of a sporting icon and a true Yankees legend.

Derek Lee returned to the line up yesterday, against the Cubs. He singled first time up, after being on the disabled list with a broken bone in his wrist. He batted again in the 9th, bases loaded, two outs...he hit a grand slam off the very pitcher, who hit him on the wrist. Pirates won 7 to 5.

The night before, Chicago pitcher hit Andrew Mccutchen on the finger part of his left hand. Clint Hurdle [manager] was reportedly livid with his pitching staff for not protecting their players. He cited some astounding statistics about up and in and hit batsmen against us....compared to what we delivered.

Olendorf apparently got the message, at all costs. He hit two of the chicago batters in the first inning. You know the old saying, when a batter gets hit so, does the catcher and the umpire. YEP! both times the fast ball 93 and 95 mph
hit the batters then hit Doumit in the chest protector and flew up and hit the umpire. I was surprised after the second beaning, no warnings were issued. (the second beaned batter loaded the bases with no one out). We got out of it, no harm done.

Andrew did not have any broken bones, and played. but was wearing a padded glove. Later in the game, Nate Mcclouth
beaned another bat's man, right in the butt..:|..still no warning.

The pirates have some decisions to make. Derek lee, will be 34 next year. He has played in 4 games for us, since being aquired before the trading dead line. Has hit 3 home runs.
He is having a good year. Certainly an upgrade over Overbay.Should they offer him a new contract?

Then we still have Garrett Jones. Also an offensive weapon. He is eligable for arbitration next year. He had a fantastic
Aug. while Lee was healing and no Overbay. Led the team with extra base base hits. So the Pirates know what they have with Jones. The question mark is Lee. Jones can also play outfield. Right or left.

I've talked several times about accountability with our hitting coach, Gregg Ritchie. Not only are we, once again, considered the worst team in baseball with 19 loosing years, we lead MLB in strikeouts. Since the all star game, we have had 431.

The Giants made it to the world series on great pitching, and Philadelphia is doing that now.....maybe I am looking at
offense all wrong.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

So frustarted with the same old lack of offense loses for SF!! Vogelsong puts up fantastic pitching numbers and our bats do nothing!! AZ's Hudson is a hell of a pitcher too- but dammit!!! They seem to get hot, but it is always short lived. Frankly, Sandoval has not hit worth beans since he came back from the DL a couple of months ago.

Beltran & Keppinger have little bloops of great hitting, then..... nada...

We go to SD tomorrow- who knows- now back 7.

The good news is that Buster Posey is recovering quite well from his mega injury early on in the season and it looks like he will play again- which was in question.

Vogelsong went 7 with giving up a hit, then in the 8th, the Dbacks woke-up and SF just did not hit or get the hell on base.

So frustrating! But, I will be as big of Giants fan tomorrow as ever....

BoSox are now 1.5 behind the Yanks after todays loss. Lackey back to lacking again. Have a reasonable lead in the wild card race tho.

We head to Toronto tomorrow. After being beaten handily by the Yanks this weekend, they will be looking to break out against my guys. Then we have Tampa Bay. Gonna be a long freakin month LOL.

Is Posey maybe going to play again this season?

Looks like my AL team (BoSox) are very much in contention! Sooooooo much closer than my Giants and the Dbacks. But, they were 6 back at the end of September last year. I just don't see the same "magic" :(.

Posey will maybe be back sometime next season. he still has a long way to go. But, his progress is good. He says he will catch again- I think that is nuts! The guy has experience at other positions and is a great hitter- I don't get his wanting to catch after that accident. However, he has had the super of the supers as surgeons and sports rehab specialists- who knows what is possible. He's young and strong and dedicated to the game. He is such a force on the team- I'm glad he is now in the dugout during games.

SF has had serious injuries to key players throughout the season- I think that has taken one hell of a toll, especially with meshing together which was so much a part of the 2010 WS team.

It seems to me that Boston might very well be a force in the playoffs- kewl! There are some damn good teams in the AL this season- they have a lot to do, but, 1.5 games out is not bad at all.

SF not only needs to win just about every game, but the Dbacks have got to lose more than a few!! And I just feel like SF really needs to re-think their offensive coaching. It isn't working! And there are guys that are not hitting that certainly have in the past.

I just have to give our guy Mo Rivera his props. I have never seen him actually hit a guy, but he did today...wow. But they won.

This guy is FORTY-ONE and is still pitching 94 mph and he is still one of the best closers out there. Almost 600 saves. The dude is just amazing.

PS-sorry about Beckett all. I hope he doesn't even miss one game. He's great!

YES! A win! These days, SF has got to get them all!! Will the offense continue to bring in runs??? September is so wild and nail-biting.

Loved seeing my favorite rookie play yesterday and our bats working- Crawford at SS. Bumgarner blows me away- if he is this good at 22, what will he be like on the mound in a couple of years? What a kid- I remember him last year as a rookie pitcher in the post season as cool as a veteran.

Verlander is an AWESOME pitcher. Totally into the game, great eye. good control. Yup love watching him.

Buster Posey.... bravo you young kid. I am rooting for him. He can hit, he is well liked, he is a great team player. And he is a fantastic catcher. But, I agree why would you do that? But, players get moved around in spots.

Anyway, just piping in. I had no time in August to watch any ball. <insert super sad face>. September is intense. The announcing even changes. So few games, so few nails left!!

Oh, it is heating up! SF has developed some offense with September call-ups, especially Bret Pill. But, they lost yesterday to SD in a game that they should have won.

Hell yes, Verlander is something!! The Tigers are tearing it up out there overall and I am really looking foreward to The AL play-offs- almost as much as the NL, where my heart resides. If Verlander does not get the Cy Young, it would stink. The guy will be among the greats in baseball history.

Yes, Posey and catching again... I don't know if anyone else saw how Carlos Beltran demonstrates the way to slide into home- thing of beauty. He gets the run without putting himself or a catcher in danger of serious injury. And the guy has lousy knees! Players really do not have to smash catchers to hell in order to get the run. Skill and knowing how to have a long career on the field goes a long way.

AZ is really hot and determined- my guess is that they take our conference and SF is a wild-card in the play-offs. We still have some holes that I think will not be filled in time and the Dbacks have the mojo going! I can see them in the WS- just have to see.

Home stand against the Dodgers for SF starting Friday. SD is playing AZ for a series. I think AZ will sweep- damn!!

Yelloband- geez, the Pirates have fallen so much! Sux- they have a lot of talent.

One SF player I quite like is Aubrey Huff. He is solid and incredibly dedicated to the game. What is the term when a player stands at the fence for the whole game? I can't remember. But he impresses me. Alot of players do, but he has some level of "concentration" that I don't often see on others.

I can't help but cheer for the Jays. Even when they get their ass handed to them like the other night. Ahhh I look back fondly when Canada had more than just one team...

What the hell?! The Red Sox were flying through the season like a humming bird darting around, giving the Yankees what for, and now they're spiraling thanks to their bullpen, denying Tim Wakefield his 200th win. I had hope for this season, much like last season but I'm getting cramps of years gone by when the Sox just fall apart at the end of the season. Come on guys, dust yourself off and go get those Yankees!

BoSox are now 2-6 for September. Guess the usual August meltdown waited until September this year.

Hopefully they pull it together again soon, cuz September is a brutal schedule against other division rivals that could make even a wildcard berth difficult.

Be nice if Francona would stop shooting them in the foot too. I know he has to make do with a less than ideal pitching staff at this point but he needs to bring out the hook a lot sooner for those who just dont have it on a particular night.

Ugh... my Giants are foundering too- I don't know if they can come back from an awful August. And AZ is just plain hot out here in the West.

Oh, yeah, Hack, the Tigers are very strong- I see a Tigers v Phillies World Series as a big possibility.

The Sox lost again today and Youk flew back to Boston for an MRI on his left hip, apparently he's been gimping around on it for a few days. That's the last thing we need...another injured player! Dustin Pedroia, Big Papi, and Jacoby Ellsbury can't carry the team alone.

I know Texas is hot right now, has been all season long. They were a wild card for the ALDS last year and it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see them again this year. They're young, healthy, and strong as a team and Ron Washinton is a great manager.

Yup, injuries!

Another SF loss yesterday that just sucked! Should not have lost it- the guys are just not getting RBI's and leave too many on base. Even with some pop going on with our bats, there are lost opportunities. I also just don't see the team working as a team like was true for the first 4 months of the season and of course, last year. Somethjing in terms of "heart" is missing.

If the Giants don't take this series, LA is a real threat to take us out of a wildcard for the playoffs and LA has only recently come to life. Now, I have to give kudos to LA's Kershaw- some kind of young pitcher! They have a gem in him.

It is so frustrating to see Tim Lincecum's W-L record at 12-13 because it just does not reconcile with his performance this season- he has had so little run support and most of the time, been brilliant. That is why he is a 2 time Cy Young recipient! I can think of 10 of his starts this year in which he should of had a win- where he goes to the 7th or 8th with a lead (usually only 1 run) and our offense has just not given him some insurance and then when a reliever or a closer comes in, the other team goes ahead- by one run and wins!! With Wilson being out for 3 weeks now, the closing has been a mess! Also, he is such a leader- but he is talking the guys up in the dig-out while hurt. But, I think his not going out there has some kind of psychological block going on.

Butr the lack of spirit and sync of the team is what is bothering me the most. And now, Stewart is out with a foot injury! They will need another catcher- damn, the absence of Posey keeps showing its ugly head.

OK, the Giants and the Red Sox have got to get their game going!!

The BoSox skid continues. We were just swept by those pesky Rays. Have now lost 5 in a row and 9 of the last 11.

Now are 3.5 behind the Yanks. And our lead in the wildcard is 3.5 ahead of the Rays.

We have a couple of games with Toronto coming up - always a potential nightmare. And then 4 more with the Rays to end the week. :seeingstars:

The hitting has been varying from non-existent to slamming but the pitching has been atrocious. The starting pitching has gone 5 innings or less in 9 of the last 11 games. Not that their replacements have faired any better.

And so the angst of being a Red Sox fan continues.

Who wound up the Tigers? They are playing super ball these days.

Yes, Detroit is playing some great baseball. I have been interested in their progress since watching them in interleague play vs. my Giants.

What youy are feeling about the Red Sox is so like what I am going through with SF. Although, I think the Red Sox can pick up the pieces at this point.

With as hot as AZ is right now in our conference, and SF just not having any offensive consistency, I am having a hell of a time believing we will get to the post season. My guess is that this week, the math will determine this. But, I will watch every last game and stick with my guys as I have since
1958. My team, is my team!

I am looking foreward to what I think will be a fantastic post-season in the game. Have to see if my predictions come true- right now the Phillies & Tigers just seem like they are on their way to the WS. But, I can't count out the Dbacks as a major contender in the NL. They have some big time talent and heart going on out here in the West.

Yup- Gibson is tough competitor! He is getting a lot of press out here right now and how he has brought AZ to where it is.

I hope the BoSox just get it going again- and SF!! They won again yesterday and another 8 run game for them. Amazing- all season they have won on maybe 2 run leads when winning. Been all bullpen. Yesterday we lost to the Cardnials. This is officially our 19th straight loosing season. Managements comment, This is improvement, it took until mid September.

Somehow, I missed something with that comment. We have set the record for the worst team record EVER. I could have done with out the mid September comment.

There were maybe 4,000 fans at the game. Game over.....we all left silently. Sad, just plain sad.

The Pirates still had a good run in spite of whatever happened in mid September.

The pitching was superb during the early summer and thats a lot of young arms. They did seem to become tired after the AllStar break but the talent is still there.

And you have some exceptional hitters and fast lil buggers swiping bases.

Seems to me, there is a lot to be proud of and much that can be built on.

It's hard to be proud of loosing two thirds of your games since the all star game. In fact, It was July 25, and we were still in First. I had Hope, I just spent 8 of the past 11 days/nights at the ball park. MISERY! but I went none the less.

This was the year of accountability, remember. Thats what we kept hearing. The GM was resigned to another 4 years. We have the highest strike outs in the league. When it comes to a category of being the worst, Our name will be at the top. Sorry, I rarely complain, I never boo (except for Overbay) I'm sick of loosing.

I know, my Giants made me crazy post the All Star game. Even with injuries. Now they have picked things up and it really is too late. I don't see AZ, Atlanta or the Cards slumping over the next couple of weeks.

The Pirates have a lot of talent and it seem just nuts for them to take the dive they did. But, I think they are building and next year will be a very different story- hope so.

Hey! The first home game (the "opener") in SF is vs. the Pirates!! You and your sweetie ought to come to CA for a vacation around then and we can all go to the series!!! You two can stay with me- that will save $- plus I am just a BART ride from SF and you can take in the sights!! Talk to her about this.

And I promise I won't get bummed if the Pirates beat my guys.

I am a total tech moron, but it would be really fun to do some kind of "conference" viewing with us all during the play offs and the WS. Even though my team will not be in any of these, I think, it is great to share excitement with other baseball fans and help them root for their team.

SF has won 5 in a row and yesterday, the Braves lost- so we are now 5 out for thr woldcard birth. Who knows! Had 9 runs, and the two prior games had 8. This is unbelievable! SF has had poor run support for our amazing bullpen all season. But, there are only 11 games left- we need wins and both the Cardinals and the Braves to lose some games. I know the Dbacks will take the division. Actually, they deserve it.

The Tigers clinched their division!!! Kewl- I do see them getting to the WS.

Go Jim Leyland and Company. I guess the Indians are out of it, (always the wild card I guess. Choo is being activated from the DL) But as it loooks TODAY, Boston has the wild card locked up and NY and Texas will slug it out with the Tigers and the Bo sox.

In The Nl....The Giants are HOT...(wow, where were they a week ago?)Philly and the Brewers and The Diamond Backs....(87 and 64) wild card is close....I'm going to say Atlanta....they are so good, but unfortunately are behind the Phillies by 12 games. Atlanta is 86 and 65, cards are 82 and 68, Giants 81 and 70 and the Dodgers 74 and 78,

Dodgers beat the Pirates again last night. The SuckO's are 68 and 83.

This is going to be a very exciting play off and world series. The Phillies have good pitching....but can be beat. The brewers can knock them out
of contention with their bats......(thank you google for providing me with updated info this morning)

I know- the Giant's injuries in August plus slumps by the batters that can come through for us, just messed up so much!!!

It is still a long shot for SF to get the wild card birth- we shall see. But, it is still a possibility. Beltran and Sandoval ("cycled" night before last) have both caught fire and my favorite rookie (SS, Crawford) is getting some RBIs along with the big guys. Our pitching continues to be one of the best staffs in the league- so.. who knows. Madison Bumgarner had 2 doubles last night and damn near knocked two hits out of the park against the Rockies. That kid is only 22 and pitches like a veteran and looks like he may very well become a pitcher that can hit.

Yes, the play offs are going to be awesome (even if my guys don't make it). Now, dammit, BoSox get it done!!! Although, I think Detroit is one great team and I can see them going all the way. But, oh will we be seeing some baseball over the next few weeks!

Yes, the Phillies are talented and competitive, yet they can be beat. It seems that the Rays are in battle mode.

I left a tail gate party to come inside and watch the Pirates and Dodgers play. The Steeler game was over. We, the women minus my partner were playing cards and not really paying attention .....anyhow....by the time I got in here and got situated, it was the bottom of the second and the score was 12 to 0. Guess who was winning. Not the suckO's.

Geeze. It was bottom of the third, and we used up four pitchers. It's the sixth inning now, and it's 15 to 1. I went and got that jolly roger flag and put it away. The only thing semi positive I have to say is Houston beat us to loosing 100 games.

Two years ago, I'll never forget it because of course it was another baseball low light, The brewers beat us 20 to nothing. Never had a major league team been beaten so baddly. It was ugly. Our Third string catcher was pitching (he often pitched batting practices) because we used all of our bull pen and had surrendered by then. UUUGH, how bad will this get. I turned it off.:seeingstars:

I don't know if I can stand the giants being back in contention for the play-offs or not- really is torture- they have to keep up the winning streak! Plus, other teams must lose (they have been). On pins and needles.

So ATLAST, the mathematicians who crunch baseball numbers seem to think the Giants can win the Division by 1.5 games TODAY, but they are counting on two wins from the SuckO's. (Pirates)....OMG, this is heart attack time in your race. If You're count on the Pirates to be spoilers....

Wild card in the AL is tight/ Bo sox are holding tight for the lead at 88 and 68, Tampa bay right behind them at 85 and 67 they are calling that a 2 game advantage.

I want the BoSox to get with it!! What is going on?? It is hard for me because my AL favorite are the BoSox, but I see Detroit as a good bet to take it all (even if my giants are in it again). Verlander is something- but the whole team is a good balance together. I'm really a NL person, though.

Oh- yes, every SF game now is torture- and I have to admit, I wish the Dbacks were playing another team right now!! But, AZ has been playing some very good ball all season really and they have a lot of heart. Lot of talent too.

Mainly, I want SF to get in the play offs. I love them, but I don't know if they are WS material this time. Although, they have been playing smart. But so many key players are out with injuries and although the rookies called up plus Keppinger and Beltran have been contributing this month, I don't know if they have the stuff again.

Kershaw is having a fine year and is a hell of a pitcher for LA. But he is going up against Lincecum tonight and like most of SF's starters, his win record has been screwed up due to the Giants lack of (and inconsistent) offense. The guy is a two time Cy Young winner. But, it looks like kershaw is in the Cy Young running very strongly in the NL. The kid is only 22!! A lot of poise out there on such a young guy. Actually, I would so love to see him in a SF uniform within a couple of years!!

Damn, I wish I could get more of the games of these other teams that all of you like! I hear blurbs on the sports shows about the Jays, BoSox, and the Rays but I wish I could catch a couple of full games. Hell, I usually have insomnia- I could watch at 2-3 am!! GRRRR... Kershaw was brilliant, Lincecum not so! Our bats were rendered poopy by Kershaw- we lost, but not without some intense "almost" moments (score was 2-1 Dodgers. These moments engineered by Bochy's phenomenal management strategy. Love him! One of the "Mr Baseball's" of the game.

But, I see a win tonight and tomorrow. The scrapping, regular guy, no frills, no stars Giants are back!! We shall see, but, my freaks appear to be back!

Pirates and Diamond backs have an afternoon game (I have my ear pod into the radio right now, just started no score) Sucko's are off tomorrow.

Wait, they are doing a run down of the play off's right now. Ohgeeze, diamond backs have scored already.
Well the giants are only going to clench the title if all cards fall correctly by half a game....however, much more wiggle room in the wild card. Atlanta is only holding on by 2.5 now. The cards are coming on very strong. Giants 4.5 out of wildcard.

I better peak at AL....that changes every hour it seems

NY has the division by 6 over the yankess....no change there.
Tigers and Rangers no change.....
Wild card looks like this Boston holding the wild card lead by 2 games, Tampa bay behind them, and LA Angels are 3.5 back.......eeeewwww/close!

The BoSox meltdown continues. The Yankees helped us to maintain a 2.5 game lead in the wild card by spanking the Rays. But, the Angels are 2.5 games out as well now. I dont know where the heck the Angels came from.

We have 6 games left and basically need to win 5 out of the 6. Oy. We finish on the road with 3 in Yankee Stadium - I suspect this will not be pretty. And 3 in Baltimore who just cleaned the floor with us.

It is discouraging to see them have leads only to blow them late in the game. The hitting cant keep pace with the pathetic excuse of a pitching staff. Even the veterans are doing sucky now. Theo Epstein is going to have a lot to answer to for not getting us some quality replacement pitching down the stretch. Francona has been forced to piece together a rotation of youngins from triple AAA and reliever veterans who have been fading the entire second half of the season. Bard, once tried and true, has become a huge liability.

I think we have won 6 games in September and given away about 18. Sigh. Even if we manage to find ourselves in the playoffs, I dont think we have the ability to last longer than the first round.

I am pleased for the Tigers tho. What a pesky team they have become. Aside from Victor Martinez, is there anyone on that team that is old enough to shave? It would be great to see them in the World Series. I will be rooting for them.

I know, I have bee trying to figure out how the Angels got where they are. UGH... I kow, since I am a Califorian, born and raised, I should be rootig for the Angels in the AL. But.... I am a NORTHERN CALIFORNIAN!!

Haven't followed the Angels since way back when they had disabled (born without one hand fully formed) starting pitcher- Jim Abbott

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Abbott

I have always just liked the BoSox in the AL. Hey, Kobe, the Giats were figured way out of eve the wild card just a couple of weeks ago. Ya' nevah' know!! But, yes, they (Re Sox) need to win the rest of their games. I hope today they start to just win!!

Nervous about tonight's SF v. LAD game... the Dodger-Giats long time rivalry usually brings ooommph to both teams. Then we are off to AZ v. the Dbacks. That is going to be where our story begins or ends. Whatever- my scrappers have given me a fun last week of "torture." Actually, since AZ is a team o one cares about and never sees as competitive, if they win it all and the Giants don't get in the playoffs, it will be OK. I think AZ can give a good battle for the NL.

Yellow- is there a AZ v PIT game today?? If yes- damn it, Pirates, beat them!!! Ad SL has got to start losing!!!

The Suck'os were off Thursday, but they gifted you with another loss or in your case a win for AZ on Wed. It is showing the giants 4 out of the wild card race this morning and the Bo sox in with tampa bay 2 hames behind....

SuckO's come home for the final home stand to play the Reds. Which can help the cards if the reds loose.

Also University of Pittsburgh Vs Notre Dame at home Saturday. Wild weekend here!

the giants have had like 40 million solo homeruns this year.
that tells alot. losing posey was a big blow.
sandoval and beltran, great bats. they need folks to get
on base.

wildcard:

tonights games/series ...

red sox - vs ny yankees lester/garcia
rays - (2 games back) vs bluejays price/morrow
angels - (3 games back) vs a's weaver/gonzalez

braves - vs nationals hudson/strasburg
cardinals - (2) vs cubs carpenter/dempster
giants - (4) vs diamondbacks cain/saunders

the rays and cardinals might just tie it all up this weekend.
or take it over. both of these teams are better than the red sox
and braves, in my opinion.

Macele, did the sunflower seeds replace the smokeless tobacco?

The Pirates do a anti *Chew* PSA (public service announcement) on the scoreboard during pregame warm ups. I know years ago, they banned smoking in the dug outs.

I always giggle when I see my beloved Jim Leyland hiding in a dug out getting in a few drags. I also no longer see the mail pouch wad in the cheek...They still spit constantly (maybe they're using bandits). Was/has smokeless tobacco been banned from on field?

There has been a light and steady rain since around noon. I bet unless there is lightning, no games will be rain delayed. We have 3 homes games
with the reds and that wraps up the season at home.

Pitt and Notre Dame and the Pirates tomorrow. The stadiums are side by side. Steve MIller band is the grand finale.

YES- the Giants have left a kazillion on base and also don't get runners on! Makes me crazy!! I agree that the few guys we have that are power hitters usually knock in just themselves. ARGH!! I hope they work to get this fixed next year.

Posey and Freddie Sanchez, plus Sherholtz being out has really messed us up- even with getting Beltrans and Keppinger. Speaking of Keppinger- he has not done much for us at all, I think. Would not care if he isn't in a SF uni next year. I think both Crawford & Belt will become more consistent hitters and getting on base as they play- I see talent with them. But they both are just not there now. Although, Belt has done some good stuff. Players like Huff and Ross have been stranded so much. And I wish Sandoval would not be so into home run hitting- just get on or move a base runner!!

So frustrating- damn frustrating! I want them in the play offs, but what you are talking about is what would most likely take them out in the first round.

LOL- I eat them (sunflower seeds) one at a time. So weird, I don't eat them very often, but find I am doing so a lot right now! Hey, when the hell did Frito Lay become the official MLB seeds!!

I don't know if I am looking foreward to the start of our last games with AZ- it could be ugly.... and I honestly think our entire bullpen is tired.

WOW, have to say Kemp of the Dodgers smacked the hell out of us during our series. That guy is something. I kind of liked seeing old Tommy Lasorda in the dugout for his 84th BD last night. Crazy old codger!!

NY, Detroit, and Texas

Phillies, Brewers, and Arizona

WTG teams!

Wild cards still pending. BoSox benefited from both the Rays and Angels losing tonight. Magic number is 4 with 6 remaining. Rays are 2.5 behind and close out the season against the Yanks. Angels are 3.5 behind.

Braves are still ahead with 5 left. Magic number is 3. Cards are 3 behind and Giants 5 behind.

Well we lost to AZ - they clinched the west. Actually, I am happy for them- hell of a turn around for them this season. And the Giants August play really blew things up.

Our offense is just inconsistent and we leave too many on. Been happening all year. So many of our wins have been all pitching- games with a 1 or 2 lead. So many lost due to no run support- and I hate that all of our starters have win stats that really do not reflect their true pitching. Has to be so frustrating for both Cain and Lincecum. Pisses me off as they would be right up there with Verlander and Kershaw in the win category. But I also like both of those guys and it will be interesting which one gets the Cy Young for the NL. Thinking it will be Verlander.

I think the Braves will preval.

But I am jazzed about the play offs nonetheless.

Oh, realized that the Steelers will be on SNF- kewl, they are my team from way back, but I don't get their games unless they play Oakland or on MNF or SNF. Not as much of a pro football fan as I am with baseball. I like college ball more. But right now until the first week of November, baseball is the main event for me.

Damn, you and your partner have to come out next season for the SF opener vs. the Pirates!!! Really- take a vacation you two and come play in SF!! I'll set you up in my driveway in my RV- see, a private room with bath and everything!!!

Pirates vs the Reds. It was a good game last night. Right down to the last pitch.

In the top of the 9th inning, our catcher Ryan Doumit took an extremly direct foul tipped ball off of his face mask. You could hear that ball his face mask. Instant replay showed the ball hit Ryan's face mask in slow motion. It took the face mask up onto his protective helmet and really whipped his head backwards. Twice, when it happened and during the replay the fans in the ball back let out a collective *whoa*. Ryan remained squatted . The unpire called time and respecfully the batter walked towards the on deck circle and the umpire meandered. The camera zoomed in and got an excellent shot of Ryans eyes rolling around, while he remained squatted. He had dropped his mitted hand to his side for balance. When the umpire saw that on replay he walked over to Doumit and
leaned over and said something. Ryan Nodded, and picked his glove up and pounded it with his fist. But still stayed squatted. The batter went into the dug out and got a drink and the umpire walked over to home dug out and got a towel to dry off his face mask and just waste time. 5 min.
passed (total). Finally Ryan stood up and walked slowly to the mound to talk to the pitcher. Game resumed. I loved the respect extended to him by the umpire. But We are not in any position for any kind of play offs, Ryan has had several concussions over the years from foul tips. I couldn't help but wonder why he wasn't removed.

In the bottom of the same inning, the 9th, with bases loaded, the go ahead run and winning runs on base, Joel Hannaran threw a 98 mile an hour fastball that hit Red's 3rd base baseman Todd Frazier on his left wrist,
right where the wrist bends. Frazier went right to the ground, then rolled over. Hannaran and Doumit came to see if he was ok, lots of concern, it hit hard and loud...the umpire initally signally foul tip. Frazier did get up
and it took awhile, but he finally started to move the wrist. Another 5 min delay. He reventually ran down to first base and the tying run scored.
The next batter grounded out.

Neither team was playing for play offs and I certainly wondered about this playing at all costs attitude. Both Doumit and Frazier, in my opinion, should have been removed (it was 9th inning) for precautionary reasons and player safety. There is life after baseball.

I don't know if I have it in me to watch the rest of the SF v AZ game! Talk about pitiful! I feel terrible for Surkamp- but he has to learn how to pitch in the big leagues under these kinds of situations. No one else really to start.

I thought Belt's sloppy outfielding and then the umpire-Fontenot collision was bad enough. But all of the walks turned into runs and Moto doesn't look like he has his stuff either. And now our bullpen will be worked to hell when it didn't have to.

Plain ugly! Maybe the giants offense will be so embarrassed and pissed, they will just hit like hell. probably not. No way to go down at the end.

As usual, 2 runners left on in the top of the 1st with some of our "good" hitters up. I want to scream!!!

I know and Keppie will probably get it going and do fine next season. Yes, they are beat up. Most of our last games have not had but one player that even played in the WS last season. Our guys have had a horrible year with injuries and very serious injuries.

I shouldn't get mad at 'em.....

pittsburgh has a lot of potential. jose tabata, neil walker, alex presley (played for ole miss, so he's got southern skill lol) ... great young talent. i really like charlie morton. maybe a few surprise trades in the off season and they are contenders.

And Andrew McCutchen- he has a very bright career ahead of him and I hope Pittsburgh hangs onto him. Gifted athlete with smarts!

Weird... the power went out during the SF v AZ game. There was a delay... but now it is the bottom of the 8th and its 15-2 AZ. What a mess!! But ATL didn't win and didn't clinch the wildcard birth tonight either. Cards won. This is so crazy!!

I just want the Giants to take the last game with AZ...PLEASE!!! After tonight, some face must be saved! But all of our rookies got some major league play and that is a good thing.

that's totally weird. last week when the tigers played in oakland, the lights went out at that game. took like 20 minutes to get them back on and revved up to play again.

Think I'll walk the dog and see if I can stand watching when I get back....

Please, someone give me good news about the BoSox.....

No good news on the BoSox side either.

They lost to the Yankees Saturday 9-1. Lester didnt even last 3 innings and gave up 8 runs! Lester, who usually has a horrid April, is having a horrendous September.

Both the Rays and Angels won. The Rays are now 1.5 games behind and the Angels 2.5 in the wildcard.

The Sox and Yanks play 2 today: Wakefield vs Burnett, and Lackey vs Nova.
Novena time.

I am expecting the Rays to take over the wildcard lead by days end. The Sox have given them ample opportunity to get back in the mix and they are taking advantage of it. Good for them!

Sad part, is the Sox have stayed in this long not because of anything they are doing (losing) but because of what the Yanks and Rays have done.

Yanks and Rays close out the season against one another for 3 games. If the Sox get in, it will be thanks to the Yankees. Have to love the irony of that. LOL.

I am almost hoping the Rays win at this point. They seem to have the motivation to play well, try harder, and are just a gritty team. The Sox just look embarassingly pitiful out there.

Sigh.

You know, if by some magical spin of luck, the Giants got the wildcard bid, I am thinking along the lines you are about the BoSox- it would be due to losses of the other contenders really and not because we are playing good ball.

I feel for the guys because the injuries to key players has really been awful. Even Sabdoval is playing without being able to bat right-handed- he is still injured really. Plus, I love Bochy. But they won the WS last year and will finish third- not so bad given what has gone on. Besides, we die-hard SF fans will be right back in the stands next year rooting them on.

Tonight, SF was just horrible! But the D-Backs are so very hyped and motivated and I am looking foreward to their play-off games. Kirk Gibson is one hell of a motivating manager. He was a great Tigers player, too. Could be Manager of the Year easily. Lot of heart on that team. SF has not been playing good ball either.

Yes, the Rays are giving it their all. It is amazing how the last slots are still in play right at the last week! But that is what I love about the game- the scrapping to the end. But, tonight, SF looked a mess!

But it did my heart good to see clips of Biuster Posey last week playing catch. He certainly did so gingerly, and how well he will actually recover is not known. I hope the guy play again and at the level he did. Afterall, Mark DeRosa was counted out and he has been out there contributing big since he returned. Don'y know if he will retun next year- he may retire anyway. But, damn, he has been great.

Oh, boy! It is almost play-off time!

Wow, I thought, lucky me. I got to see the NY Yankees and Bo Sox on TV last night. I am not quite geared for televised baseball yet, and I can understan why some people find it boring (like the way I view golf) so I was reading the paper while I was watching the game....before I knew it, it was 8-0, yankees. I wondered if I had fallen asleep for a little while. Lester was replaced and I didn't see that. The play by play announcer said if the Red sox were not able to recover, their record would be 5 and 17 in September. (As bad as the
SuckO's, who beat the Reds again). It took until the 7th inning for the Bo Sox to get anything on the board. Hopefully today will be better. You need every game now too. And I guess the numbers ran out on the Giants....Sorry Atlast. I know how that feels.

AND YES WE WILL... US DIE HARDS WILL LIVE FOR SPRING TRAINING!!

terry francona flip flops his batting line up so much, just crazy. by now he should have pretty much a set line up ... a few adjustments when players are hot or cold. but he has done it all season and still doing it. maybe that's his style and i just never noticed lol. drives me crazy.

boston's pitching is horrible. even if they do hang on to the wildcard, probable first round, done.

francona just doesn't know what to do. for a while there, middle of the season, good things. can't put the total blame on the coach, but he has the players to get it done. pitching, nahhh ... just ain't gonna get it done.

My Red Sox, my wonderful Red Sox look like CRAP this month! I don't think I've even worn my hoodie yet this season, well it's not been cold enough, that's beside the point! Where's Big Papi's, Salty's, Pedroia's, Drew's, Ellsbury's bat when we need them?? Well they can only do so much when the pitchers are throwing high cheese. We gotta keep the faith Bo Sox fans! :praying: And as much as I HATE HATE HATE to say it, the Yankees need to win over the Rays to help us out.

Yesterday was our last home game for the season.
Un be known to the crowd, at every gate was players and coaches. ALL of them were inside the gates.

The gate we went in had among others Derek Lee and Micheal Mchenry. This was a show stopper. Theres Mike with a bucket of dirty batting practice balls signing them and giving them to kids. Smiling away. Two little boys wanted Mom to take their picture with him. Micheal was so
cool about it. Mom had a little girl in diapers in her arms. Mike gives the oldest of the boys his CATCHERS mask to put up to his face, and he picked the other little guy up AND held the little girl! It was a family portrait. Damn, I had tears in my eyes! Also at my gate was pitcher Daniel McCutcheon, and he had on mullet wig and a pirate beard and moustache.....he was a photo opp for all of the kids too!

The players gave away the shirts off their backs and auto graphed them at the end of the game. The bandwagon fans all left, but the DIE HARDS, all went down to the lower level and ovated them (I thought this was nice) the players took off their hats, signed them tossed them into the crowd and stood there clapping for us......Truely fan appreciation.

This is so sweet. I do enjoy hearing about players who appreciate their fans and go a little extra to make it known. Hopefully they will comeback next year and be contenders cuz they looked mighty good there for a while.

The Sox finally won the second game of the doubleheader and hold a 1 game lead in the wild card. They open in Baltimore tonight for the final series of the season. Baltimore wiped the floor with us last weekend.

The Yanks and Rays start their final series tonight. Feels funny to say.....go Yanks! We will need their help to get in.

On a brighter note, Jacoby Ellsbury became the first Boston player ever to hit 30 homers and steal 30 bases in the same season.

Rally hats and clothes time.

I agree with Kobe- this is super! And you are a terrific fan! I so wish I couod go to more Giants games. I love it when they have pre-game things with the players and you can ask them questions. The little kids make me smile!!

Yeah- I'm a gushy when it comes to seeing what I used to feel as a kid at the ballpark. I loved going to games with my folks and siblings. It is a family memory that is very warm to me. It could be any kind of activity for any family, but I feel so blessed that I had these kinds of things in my childhood.

I shook hands with Willie Mays when I was 8 or 9 and with Willie McCovey, too. John Montefusco was another hero of mine as well as Mike Kruckow and Duane Kuiper, now our "hometown" announcers.

The Giants players are always talking about how they appreciate the fans- even during times my guys have not done well. Many do a lot of community service, especially "The Beard," closer Brian Wilson. He bought 1000 gloves personally and handed them out at an event for kids that are in little league this year that just don't have $ to buy a new glove. he chatted them up and played catch.

Yes, some of these guys make a lot of money, but a lot of them do get very involved in community organizations and activities and things like AIDS/HIV benefit drives and for the American Heart Association and cancer research.

This is a cool story, Yellowband!

Oh, and Kobe... I think the BoSox are getting that birth- very soon!

Hey all, pretty soon we will be able to chime in on what teams that are in might be going all the way! I keep thinking in the NL, the Tigers, but, the D-Backs are really doing the "come-back" thing quite well. Trppy that their manager played for the Tigers. Plus, Williams from the Giants is on their coaching staff.

Now, I have to say those Rays are kicking too. And the Cards seem to want in! Like I said, I like their manager a lot, too. Even when he was with the A's out here- a team I don't like much. OK, checking in with my baseball buds to see what is happening with the BoSox???

I did way too much yard work today, feel asleep when I was "just going to rest my eyes," and I haven't checked scores yet.

Turned on the tube- the Giants last series vs. the Rockies going on- so eventually, I will get a run down on the remaining play-off births. Or is it only
1, now? Sorry, had a couple of restless nights with pain wake-ups.. kind of in a fog.

Feeling sad about this being the last Giants games this season- but know that they were not up to snuff this time. What can ya' do!! I always miss my Dad and brother this time of year- it is around their birthdays and my brother played AAA for awhile in the Giants farm system back in the day. Never made it to the majors, but he and my Pop had a lot to do with my love for the game. But, my Mom loved it too. And one of my sister, now also deceased. Jeannie was a hell of a second base!! Total tomboy like me. Good tennis player, too.

So- be seeing ya' all during the play-offs. Yikes, since my team isn't in them, I will have to figure out how to support the teams you like- and of course, there will be conflicts... phooey!!!

I dont ever remember a situation where the wildcard in both leagues was tied going into the last game of the season. Thats kind of cool.

Does anyone remember how they break ties if it ends up that way? I thought it was a 1 game playoff between the two contending teams but I'm not sure.
Someone told me the American league has a 1 game playoff while the National league uses a 3 game playoff.

It's kind of incredible to be in this position on the last day of the season.

One can only hope Lester fairs better today on 3 days rest than he has this month on 5 days rest. September hasnt been kind to him thus far. He is 0-3 with a 10.54 era and barely made it out of the 3rd inning in a few games.

But, such is the life of a BoSox fan.

The BoSox meltdown is complete. They lost tonight to Baltimore with 2 out in the ninth, courtesy of Papelbon giving up 2 runs.

Tampa Bay and the Yanks went to 12 innings before Longoria put an end to it. Yanks used like 12 pitchers - one I swear was the ballboy.

So Tampa is the wildcard in the American league.

And St. Louis pulled off the impossible and beat out the Braves.

Exciting finish but I am glad it is over. Congrats to all the winners on a job well done.

Next up, I believe, is Tigers vs Yanks; Tampa vs. Texas; Cardinals vs Phillies; Brewers vs Diamondbacks.

I am a National League fan, so I will be rooting for the NL tean in the WS. But, I think the play-offs in both leagues are going to be something. Wouldn't it be something if the Rangers got back in!

WOOT.. its play-off time!!!

As far as the Rays, hmmm. I just don't know if I can get myself to like any FL team, even though I relocated here. . hmm hmmm.

Although, I wouldn't mind catching a Rockies/Marlins game sometime out here but I'd be rooting for the Rocks.

I'm not sure where BoSox originated. Might have been a sport announcer thing but I grew up with the name and that was back in the 60's. Was BoSox and ChiSox back then. Ok maybe we New Englanders are just lazy spellers.

Scorp, I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say : "Thankfully the Yankees are out too, so I don't care who wins now..."

The Yankees won the division and are very much in the thick of things. Opening tomorrow night I believe against the Tigers.

Did I misunderstand what you meant?

I'm still sticking with the Tigers to make the WS. Maybe the Cards or the Diamondbacks too. Heck as long as it is a good bunch of fall baseball, I will be happy.

Am very glad fantasy baseball is over. Got my 3rd place cyber trophy LOL. Gees it was a freakin long season.

I probably should get behind the D-Backs... but I do like the Cards in the NL in terms of their manager. Even though I'm a NL fan to the core- I am thinking it would be kewl for the Rangers to go all the way and win. But then, I was so impressed with Detroit this year.

But, the pjillies... UGH- it is really hard when your real team is out of it! I ought to just watch and enjoy the games. Have to be honest, I don't want the Yankees to get to the WS. Really would like to see teams that are never in it get to that level. Rangers had never been last year and Nolan Ryan is someone I think of as a real baseball player. Decisions, decisions...

The Cardnials are a finess team. They make very few mistakes and have very good bats. They are a little weak with Pitching. The phillies, have been Nl dominators for too long, we need someone to overpower them. They have good pitching, but not alot going for them with the bats or defense. So, you may be right. The Phillies can be beat. The Pirates beat them (before all star, when we were contenders).

I couldn't agree more Go Tigers. Speculation, and projection on my part....I wonder if Jim leyland wins a world series, if he will once and for all
Retire and come home to his family and beautiful wife Katie. He often talks about how much he misses his family, but his wife wants him to do what he loves and she supports being away is part of his job. Well the Rays continue to roll along. The Yanks/Tigers rain delay is getting annoying.

And Terry Francona is out as the Red Sox manager. Apparently, from all the news conferences tonight, it was his decision to leave as he felt the team and organization needed a new voice. I'm bummed. Didnt always agree with his decision but I thought he was a good man and a good role model.

early in the game the tigers went for it on offense a time or two,

robinson cano and prince fielder, i would just put those two on base lol.

i think the score was 2-0 brewers. brewers had a man on second, first base
open. prince fielder comes up to bat and the diamondbacks pitch to him.
ian kennedy told coach k. gibson he wanted to pitch to fielder.

I really don't like that Terry Francona will no longer be managing the Red Sox next season. I mean, come on! A World Series Championship in 2000 and 2004 and the team does great all season and injuries down the line combined with lukewarm bats equals his leaving the team? He is a classy gentleman and I give him props, but WHY?? May I ask? I guess I'm still stuck on this. Perhaps we should ask Wally the Green Monster.

So did anyone else catch the fan catch in game one of the Texas series?? I laughed out loud, I am sure my neighbors heard me. I was able to watch three games today... one I taped from yesterday.

What happened to CJ Wilson? I was not expecting him to tank.Interesting pitching. Lots of rain. Lots of "holy hanna" how did that just happen? And lots of fast forwarding through the pitch breakdown.

I have come to the conclusion that I am drawn to individual players and not the teams. I was self analyzing (not always good for a simple fox like me) and came to that conclusion. It happens that I like many of the Texas players, but am not committed to their progression through the playoffs.

I am enjoying the Phillie/Card series. It was a good game tonite. Opening pitching was ALL OVER.

I look forward to analysis (if any) and some chatter. :byebye:

Brewers are up 2-0 over the Diamondbacks. They are looking pretty strong and unbeatable right now.

Phillies and Cards are tied 1-1. Phillies are looking strong but Cards did manage to pull out last nights game. I am still rooting for the Cards but they will have to play exceptional ball or hope the Phillies pitching staff tanks. Pesky hitters.

Tigers evened the series against New York. Yanks were looking a lil tired yesterday or water logged from playing in the rain again. Valverde made it interesting as usual. I still think the youth of the Tigers will play to their advantage. I am also thinking the loss of the travel day due to the rainout will play in Detroits favor.

Rangers/Tampa Bay are tied 1-1. I still like Tampa's chances here. Tampa seems to have a lot of enthusiasm and get it done when they have to. Rangers are looking a lil flat to me and I dont see the hunger that I did in last years playoffs.

Between baseball and football yesterday, I am recovering from a sports od. :seeingstars:

The Rangers do seem a bit flat to me. I still think they have a great lineup. I like most of the players for Texas. The opening game between Tampa and Texas was stunning for me. What fabulous pitching from Tampa...they handed it to Texas. Game two was pretty exciting. But I do like me some Texas ball.

I have only watched part of one game between Brewers and the D-backs. They pulled it out last night. I am not too involved with those teams. I don't know much about the players. I recognize a name here and there, but that's about it.

I did enjoy the Phillies and Card game last night. I thought the "two strike zone" commentary and comments was interesting. I could certainly understand how frustrating that would be. But I thought it was a pretty exciting game.

AtLast

It has to be so frustrating for managers and players when the home plate ump is making inconsistent strike calls. And these days with all of the tech tracking, they really can't get away with this. I had to agree with Tony La Russa- but I think being a MLB umpire would not be easy, either.

Yeah, the Rangers do look a little flat compared to last year's play-off games, but I think they can pull it off again. But, TB won't make it easy!!

Whew! Tigers!! Kewl, Cards and Ugh, D-backs! They are the team I have watched the most because of being out west, an NL fan and my Giants are in the same division. They turned things around from last season so well, I want them to win! But, the Brewers are playing some good ball out there. They may clinch tomorrow.

Tigers v Skankees was a GREAT game last night.

The Detroit Choir of God did your National Anthem. It was real classy.

Then This: (Also Detroit Choir of God)

sg4lSGGOfzE

It wasn't the same video that played last night, of course. Parts were the same (like the city of Detroit footage and some of the children) but the sports footage was all Tigers)

Holy shit. Verlander is amazing. He pitched the entire first 8 innings and was throwing 100mph right up to the end. He struggled a little in the 7th inning and gave up a couple of walks that should have been avoided (he let the fuckers catch up!) but he got it back together for the 8th inning.

I love Papa Grande.

d9YDucKpTzE

Some drunk guy heckled the hell out of Sabathia through the entire game. He was screaming "HEY CC! I've got some potato chips up here!" It was funny the first couple of times, but after that it got tired. Because you know what? Clearly the man isn't in bad physical shape if he can pitch like that. And it's not his fault he plays for the Yankees. ;)

People were SO excited last night. I've been to a few games, but clearly never to the playoffs. I couldn't get over how high energy the crowd was. And friendly as hell. The guy sitting in the seat to my left was at the game alone (he was older, I'd give him 65-70) and every time we all jumped to our feet he'd grab my elbow and haul me up with him. By the end of the game we were best friends, I swear. He even hugged me when we won.

I think we'll win these playoffs. Just one more tiny game, that's all it's gonna take.

I am unable to watch the games tonite, and was not able to set my PVR...so I is very sad today.... But.... I will rely on my friends here to keep me posted on what has happened.

I quoted myself cause I wanted to say...I have admiration for eyes and brains that work so well together. And muscles that trian. And bodies that move with such amazing percision.

What I do know, cause like I know me, is if a small cylindrical object was flying at me at 100 m/p/h I would probably shriek:scared: and dive. Just sayin'. And after my stroke, oh yeah I soooo rock hand eye coordination (NOT)!! Hand/eye and fine balance are the two things I never quite recovered. And some other minor issues, but all in all I am extremely lucky and healthy.

I know! I don't think people appreciate just how fast that ball is approaching a batter!! Plus what kind of athleticism it takes to be a good short stop or other defensive player. When I see those plays in which a ball is thrown from an awkward position after catching it and the out is made- I am totally amazed!!

You bet we will keep you posted!

Ok Texas won the series. Tampa gave it a good shot but came up short.

The Phillies are now up 2-1 after outsmarting LaRussa.

The Yankees are spanking the Tigers 10-1! Tonight Burnett had to have his best outing in an otherwise horror show of a season? LOL.

And the D-backs are finally maybe gonna win one.

Yup, the D-backs are coming back! We shall see. The Phillis are a good club, I want the Cards to take it, but I dunno.

Oh, yes, the Yankees hammered the Tigers. ARGH. Come on Detroit!!!

I love amazing catches. Those plays where they catch in the air, flip around and throw while still in the air...gets a HELL YA from me everytime. I love it. Some of those dive catches the outfielders make... oh my. I know my arm muscles and intercostal muscles would be SCREAMING if I dove and slid for X amount of feet. :seeingstars: And the speed at which hitters get the heck outta the way when some of those pitches go wild (whether on purpose or not is not always a given).

Anyway, my PVR is set and I am recording two games tonite. I would love to go home and watch them live, but I am really dedicated to my gym routine right now.

3 series down to the last game.

Yanks and Tigers tonight - Nova vs Fister. Great pitching match up.

Tomorrow is both national finals. D-backs send Kennedy against Gallardo.
And, Cards send Carpenter against Halliday.

Exciting stuff.

Some disturbing news from the Pirates front office.

ALL of the management/ coaches will be back next year

:| so much for the *accountability* rhetoric. The Pirates had the most strike outs in all of MLB. Shouldn't the hitting
coach be held accountable?

:hamactor:Well, of course facebook has the answer. The year before, (under a different hitting coach) the Pirates didn't hit. They just stood there.

I was thinking about you tonight during the game! Are you going to be able to go to more tiger play-off games? I am soooooooooooo envious!!

I think they are going to get there- thought that all season. Lots of talent and smarts on that team. Verlander is going to pitch Saturday!

I won't get to go to the play-offs again. :( It's Canadian thanksgiving this weekend and I will be at my parents place for a week.

So they had better make it to the World Series. Me and Nick have tickets for game 5.

Congrats Brew crew!

D-backs had plenty of chances but just didnt have one more trick play up their sleeve.

Ok time for the Cardinals to pull off the impossible. Then my wish for Tigers vs Cards for the WS will be one step closer to reality.

I couldn't watch it, but did listen on the radio between classes. I so wanted the D-backs to win!!! They have been smacking my Giants around all season and I thought- "OK, go on and get in the series, you deserve it!" Also Kirk Gibson has grown on me as a manager. He has done such a great job turning that team around.

OK... now what will happen with the Cards!!!

I knew in my gut the Cards could beat the Phillies because they play finess base ball. I think (i'm not sure exactly) this is the third time the Phillies have dominated the division and lost in the play offs.

Go Tigers, Go Cards, Now, ELIMINATE the Brewers!

What team of the remaining teams has not won a World Series in the longest time?
