Still going with Tigers and Cardinals.

This would be a nce world series. The Cardnials came from essentially a #3 in the wildcard slot just days away from the end of the season and the Tigers hung around a .500 club most of the season......Cinderellas, so to speak.

(0) texas rangers have made one world series appearance.
in 2010, san francisco giants won.

(0) milwaukee brewers have made one world series appearance. in 1982,
then in the american league, ... st. louis cardinals won 4 games to 3.

(4) detroit tigers have won 4 world series. the last in 1984 against the
san diego padres.

(10) st. louis cardinals have won 10 world series. the last in 2006 against

But, I am a National League fan.... so....

Wow, I didnt realize the Brewers have never won a WS. I thought they had won a few back in the days of Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Gorman Thomas, Cecil Cooper, Rollie Fingers et al.

And I forgot they used to be the Seattle Pilots too.

So the Rangers and Brewers have never won....ordinarily I would automatically root for those who have never won before. It would be cool if they would face one another in the WS.

But, I am still stuck on the Tigers and Cards for the present. That is even tho the Cards wiped the field with my Red Sox back in 67. Gawd that was a series to remember with the likes of Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Orlando Cepeda, Steve Carlton, Tim McCarver vs Rico Petrocelli, Yaz, George Scott, Ken Harrelson, Reggie Smith, Jim Lonborg.

Then again, it was the Cards the Sox beat in 2004 to win their first title since the early 1900's.

I did not know where the Brewers came from, they just showed up one year :seeingstars:. I have sour grapes when it comes to them, as you have read over and over, due to their arrogance. Even the Phillies did not act like that and in my opinion, they were a better team. Win/ loss anyhow.

Yup, my scrapper, freaks won in 2010! ....

Ah, but were they really scrappers? Yes hot and cold...Baseball is streaky. You guys got HOT again for the playoffs and Dominated with your pitching, and showed many flashes of that, this year.

In retrospect (me reviewing why the Pirates kept that batting coach) Baseball is really a game of failures.

If you go to the dish and miss 7 times.....(7 failures) you are batting .300

True, so many other things factor in But a .300 hitter is paid millions. They don't call it a .700 looser. OK, done thinkinng out loud.

I fell asleep during the Tiger game last night. Darn! Tigers down one in the series with a 3 to 2 loss to the Texas.

Delmon Young is out for the remainder of the season:hamactor:
That obligue muscle is worse than they initially thought. I think they will miss that bat. He batted .316 against the yankees 6 hits in 19 trips to the dish, 3 of them home runs.

OK :goodluck:, Jim Leyland, I have faith, keep them focused.
Go Tigers.

i hate that about d. young. he surely will be missed.

i missed a lot of the game too. with the rain delays and all.

the yankees game had to have worn the tigers down a bit.
and when your adrenaline is so high like that, ...
it's like, o man what a relief, we just beat the yankees!
tigers may have let up a bit ...
gonna have to recharge.

the tigers bats just didn't seem to be smart.
i just feel they didn't jump on cj wilson's pitches soon enough.
gave him too much slack.

the rain delays played a part. a little luck there for wilson.

as a whole, no ... the rain delay didn't decide the games score.
but it felt like to me, in the top of the 5th, ... cj wilson caught a break.
i wanted b. inge to bat ... no rain delay lol. i felt like he could get to wilson.
inge came back after the delay, hard grounded out to 3rd, wilson pitching.
just seemed like the rain may have broke up inge's at bat.
i'm digging for anything that might get detroit a win LOL.

detroit didn't finish wilson off in the top of 1, top of 2, top of 5, ...
detroit had their chances. but wilson beat them, bottom line.

texas is like the yankees, top to bottom of line up, a pitcher can't let up.
great bats. but they didn't have the best pitching unit (top 5) during the season.
same thing can be said about detroit.
say the san francisco giants, ... much better pitching as a whole. but bats just couldn't seal the deal.
texas bats elevated, pushed them over the top.

but i am thoroughly pissed off.
these tigers are just not aggressive enough at the plate for me.
these guys need to always be ready to jump on that first pitch.
they just can't afford to let it go by when a pitcher can from that point ... set them up.
that's it, just pitching it to location location location ... after that pretty first pitch fast ball.
or am i dreaming? the tigers 0-2? can't be! lol

Tigers are down 2-0 now. They are looking tired and worn out. Meanwhile Texas is looking invigorated and focused. The starting pitching seems fairly equal but the Rangers have the edge in the bullpen.

Cards did a super job beating the Brewers last night. Feels like they have hit their stride again. I think they might actually be believing in themselves!

Good stuff!

OMG Albert Pujols as I know him. A human hitting machine. He was 4 for 5 with 5 RBI's. and scored three runs himself.
1 homer and three Doubles.

Fielder, for the Brewers, hit ANOTHER home run! The Cards will go to their home field for a few games on wednesday.

I've said it several times, The Cardnials play finess baseball. I'm very happy the brewers were given a plate of humble pie. I read a very good article from Jim Leyland (the consumate professional) about how proud he was to coach this team and get to the last game of the playoff. True, the outcome wasn't victory, but he refuses to view it as defeat. Injuries, rain outs, long delays, no excuses but many obstacles over come with a team
that did not excel in any one particular aspect of the game. The key, he said, was that they played as a team. He can not remember coaching a group of men that made him more proud.

I am hoping the series will be a bit of a slug fest. I like good pitching but good hitting is more exciting to watch.

Rangers line up is awesome. Dont know much about the Cardinals and didnt get their play off games so this is the first I will be seeing of them.

Rangers winning would be awesome as they never won before. Cardinals winning will be awesome cuz no one even expected them to be involved.

Can I root for both of them?

so far, it's not having the best starting pitchers.
but rather doing the best with what you have.

i'm a believer in offense wins games, defense wins championships.
for me, pitching is a part of defense. it only takes 1 run to win a game,
but 27 outs.

the combination of rafael furcal (ss) and nick punto (2nd) for the cardinals ...
a thing of beauty to watch. and i always think of ozzie smith
when i think of shortstop/cardinals. loved those back flips.

go cardinals!

When it was a home game and they announced the fielders, he always came out and did the back flip thing. He did it until he left the game.

It was like his signature move.

Last year I was able to catch a half inning in SF when the Giants were in the WS- standing outside, looking in through the area at the back of the park. The lines were way long for those of us that just wanted a peek.

So funny- many people trying to do the same had small TV's and of course, radios so they could watch while waiting in line. Then there were the big screens set up in the park for the away games for crowds to gather and watch. It was in one of the away games that SF took the WS.

I think a slug-fest will be in order!!

I was not cheering for the Brewers. I did not watch part of their series. And then I thought...wait I need to know more about the Cardinals before they get to the WS. So, I started to watch.

Well let the slugging begin. Two teams with great hitters. Good pitching. Good BC. What more could a gal ask for?? Well.... a nice cool glass of wine and that would top it all off nicely for me!! Too bad I would have to starve that day to save points for the wine... (sad face here)

43 degrees for a high with 25-35 mile winds. Thats chilly and thats daytime highs. What the heck is the windchill going to be tonight? Not snowing yet is it?

The Boston media has been dissecting the Red Sox team and season since the meltdown. Many unpleasant things have emerged, some have been verified, some denied.

Seems there are a conglomerate of potential reasons why things went wacky. Likely will never know the entire truth, just bits and pieces of it.

Bottom line, from what I have heard and seen, is there is/was a need for a change in leadership. And, players need to be held accountable for their unprofessional behaviors and attitudes.

Hopefully some fresh faces, perspectives, and methods will mold the players back into a cohesive unit so they can maximize their potential next year.

The World Series starts in a few min. I never got back to this thread.

Yes, It sounds like it's time for people to look into the mirror and accept responsibility. (i/e the red sox) We shall see what ownership does in the way of accountability. Of course it's being talked up here, because of the size of the payroll on that team and then that type of behavior goes on. I remember telling you how your designated hitter hit a cheap infield grounder and didn't even run it out, he walked off the field into the dug out and our fans BOOed him loudly. He was looking around like (what?) And when he came up again, they were cat calling Big Pappi. We may suck, but our manager makes us play the game the way it is supposed to be played. Even John Russell did. Mannequin and all....lol. But...when Lloyd McClendon was the manager, rumors circulated, he was a vodka drinker...and was often boozed up in the dug out, and thats why they fired him with something like 18 games left......so wrong is wrong.

OK......I have my green smoothie ready to go in a beer mug! Party ON!
May the best team win, no cheating.

Mark McGwire, lied to a grand jury. He, and many others, tarnished baseball. Barry-roid-Bonds has yet to get his. I think NONE of them should have any association with the game. They broke the law. They should be treated like any other criminals.

big fast pitch softball fan.Me too. I love the battery of baseball, both pitching and catching. I agree about fast pitch softball too. I don't see much of that around here.

tony la russa is the man. Tony has changed his style of managing over the years. He used to play the game a little dirty. Until people started playing him that way, then he didn't it so much and he corrected it. Plus the umpires have stepped it up and do not allow that stuff any more. He was notorious for having his player on second steal the catchers signals to the pitcher. That's a gentlemans rule in baseball. None of that. So teams started beaning his batters in the butt, or the hip (ooops)

He's the first one screaming when he has a hit bat's man now.

Yup, LaRussa cleaned it up. Something about Oakland and dirty play and it just seems like no matter what, managers or coaches in Oakland end up being called dirty, I think. The Raiders have always had a bad rep. I have never liked any of the Oakland teams and I live on the East Bay side of SF! I'm glad LaRussa left and went to the Red Birds.

When he was here, however, he did a lot of work for sheltered and abused animals and also he was a big anti-date rape advocate. His daughter was a victim of date rape and LaRussa got right out there in the faces of male athletes about it. He also was involved in organizations dealing with date rape and the use of drugs by perpetrators to compromise young women. There was a very sensitive and moving mini-doc with LaRussa and his daughter that I felt demonstrated his understanding the dynamics of date rape and how it effects the self-esteem of teen girls.

I miss him being here, but Oakland atheletic teams seem to tarnish a lot of reps with the dirty play stuff. Part of me thinks it the whole stereotype that Al Davis (may he RIP- recently died) perpetuated with the Oakland Raiders. Rather be rooting for Tony in St Louis!

I was totally in my element in the top of the first....the pitcher (Carpenter) making that e x t e n d e d reach slide sort of thing to get the out at first. Then Molina, the Cards catcher, making that awesome throw, to get the runner stealing second. That throw was a half step ahead of the slide! (Pitcher/Catcher)

I just don't understand why Pete Rose was and still is banned from baseball, three serious words....banned from baseball. Yet we have illegal drug use, cheating and lying to a grand jury and allowed to Coach as if nothing ever happened. He did do Maris wrong. Sammy Sosa doesn't get a free pass either.

The home run derby, in my mind, will never be the same....they were hitting 40, 41 h/r's at a time during the All Star event...between corked bats and Roids. Has anyone hit 20 since? Fortunately, people forget.

I guess the weaties box is worth something....you can say this is a cheater. In professional sports, we expect them to
be superstars based on honest to goodness talent. By working hard and refining the skills. Not by corking the bats and taking the needle. Yes, that was one of the best WS games ever played! I was thinking these teams and their big bats were going to take center stage, but, wow, the pitching has been something!! And oh yeah, defensive plays!

Both teams are giving us quite a Series thus far!!

Argh, yesterday's quakes out here brought back memories of the '89 WS between our Bay Area teams- the A's & Giants. They have stopped talking about the redsox [here] and have gone back to questioning the intergrity of the Pirate owners.

First, some Good news. Micheal Mchenry has been retained! I'm so happy.
The pirates will not pick up Catchers Ryan Doumit or Chris Snyders options,
Or Paul Malholm (Pitcher). Those three are worth 19 million next year. Suddenly our low payroll got alot lower. Makes me wonder if Micheal is going to get a million.

We have a catcher in the minors, Jason Jaramillo, who is ready to come up. The only reason he didn't get the call when Ryan broke his ankle (and the sox gave us Micheal) was JJ had a fractured jaw. So we are set at catcher. That frees up alot of cash. I say keep moving. I can't help but remember how many games we won with HUNGRY minor league players, while our veterans were out with injuries. The tale of two teams.

The sports people seem to think the warmer climate in Texas will bring on the hitting. I'm ready!

Something to be said for minor leaguers with something to prove and nothing to lose. They play because they enjoy playing. What more can you ask for?

As sad as I am to see Ryan Doumit go, he is not worthy of 7 million. I saw *desire* in Micheal Mchenry. It was so nice to see players picked off for stealing bases again (Doumit 29%) and Mchenry would snag them at first and third for taking too big of a lead. Loved him. I suspect Clint Hurdle has alot of input on who is going to be on the field next year.

As for Derrek Lee, the last I heard, the Pirates would like to retain him. But Derrek hasn't said if he wants to play another year.

Now that the Catching situation has worked itself out, the two corners have to be decieded and then wait and see if they keep Ronny Cedeno at SS. (he's only at 2 million) for some reason people hate on him (left over Jack Wilson lovers maybe???) I don't know why. Gee we are not even out of the WS yet and my mind is in spring training!! Yes, the year of the Pirates.

We actually had sunshine! So, yes I am in complete understanding of watching the WS when it is on.....

Wow, Albert Pujols!

Love how the Rangers would pitch to him, but always walk Cabrera when they played the Tigers. Whatever.

And I love how Pujols did not mock the pitcher when he hit a 100 mph fastball for a homer, like Nelson Cruz mocked Verlander when he hit a 100 mph pitch for a homer. Pujols is a class act.

That was a fun game. I love when batters are able to slug it out.

But, both teams have good pitching, so hopefully things will get back to normal tonight.

I suspect Texas kept pitching to Pujols because until last night, he hadn't done much damage. Now, they might have to rethink their strategy when he is batting.

Good stuff.

Holland has done well. He looks so damn young to me! But, just about everyone looks young to me.... hummmm...

It is the top of the 7th and Texas leads 4-0. Interesting. The kid is still on the mound for Texas. Boggs went in and gave up a home run.. :(

I am for the Cards (National is my league), but I have to say I enjoy seeing "Wash's" animation during the games. He seems like a good guy and good manager- afterall, this is the Ranger's second WS in 2 seasons. I do like Nolan Ryan too. he pitched what, 7 no hitters in his career (most of any pitcher???)? And he was in his early 40's when he pitched his last. Some kind of pitcher! Have to give him that... even though he and George "W" are such good pals. LOL, actually, the love of baseball is probably the only thing I have ever liked about George W Buch.

I'm loving this Series! So glad that Holland got out there with his stuff. Yup, the home team crowd is quite awake!

I think the Cards will be back with some punch, however. Both of these teams are determined and both giving baseball fans a great show!

This is the stuff the history of the game brings home to me. How many WS have brought some cheer and time away from worry about the economic mess we are in for just everyday people! I love seeing fans enjoying themselves at a ball game. Reminds me of the stories my parents used to tell about their "couting & sparking" during the Depression years at a few ball games. Rangers took advantage of all their opportunities and then some. If the Rangers win, I hope there is a camera on Ron Washington doing his jello like dancing and bouncing. He is so damn cute.

Cardinals did not take advantage of anything. Allen Craig doesnt look like the fastest guy in the world to me. Why is he trying to steal when Pujols is up at bat? Were those booboos or strategy? La Russa looked unhappy from about the 5th inning on. This anemic hitting isnt going to get it done with the Rangers ability to score runs.

Glad there is a day off. Time to regroup for the home stretch. This has been a great series thus far.

Boy, the Cards made some mistakes tonight, alright. Except for Pujols, the Cards bats have not been hitting other than the other night. You are right, they need to get it going. Of course, they will be in St Louis for the next game- sooooooooooooooooo! But, if Texas wins Wednesday, that's it!

I do enjoy Washington- Geez what a contrast to LaRussa- he is so serious. There is a part of me that thinks it would be cool for Texas to win it after loosing last year. also, Washington has certainly managed that team well. And the Cards have won quite a few.

The announcer the other night was talking about LaRussa and his superstitions. Said he has so many pre game rituals, they were surprised he made it to the ball park.

Washington has a different type of intensity. He is looser and as a result perhaps, so are his players. He might be fun on Dancing With the Stars.

Plus, it seems Texas has solved the how to pitch to the Cardinals dilemma. Holland did it, and Wilson did it last night. Pitch them inside, over and over and over. Cards hitters arent making the adjustments yet.

Do I even want to know who the Cards are pitching on Wednesday?

Tony La Russa's daughter removes offensive tweet about Ron Washington

Washington tested positive for cocaine during his third year as a manager? I didnt know they even tested managers.

"The testing program was added to existing regimens under which Major League Baseball randomly tested minor leaguers, front-office officials and even umpires for recreational drugs. Commissioner Bud Selig adopted the additional testing in response to recommendations in the Mitchell report, which studied the history of drug use in baseball. "

In other news, the Red Sox announced today that John Lackey will be having Tommy John surgery and be out for the entire 2012 season. Dice-K had the same surgery this past June and might be ready the middle to end of next season. Bucholtz is still recovering from a stress fracture in his lower back.

And Popeye chicken has announced the newest addition to their menu....the Beckett Bucket. Wonder if it comes with a 6 pack? I made that up btw.

Ahhh the joys of being a Red Sox fan.

La Russa was smiling a bit. He was also swearing at one point LOL. They cut that camera shot short.

Texas seemed a lil stunned with all the comebacks. I was stunned with all the comebacks. Probability wise, how probable was that to happen over and over and over when down to the last strike?

I feel for Ron Washington having to inspire this team after that heartbreaking loss. I am hoping it doesnt undermine their confidence.

As for the Cards - I hope LaRussa plays Craig and benches Holliday. Holliday doesnt seem to be into this series and Craig is swinging too hot a bat to be left on the bench.

I hope both bullpens have something left after last night.

I am hoping for a Cardinals victory but this is a series where it is a shame that someone has to lose. These are both exceptional teams and both have played their hearts out to get to this point.

It has been wonderfully entertaining.

Whoa- what a game that was last night! I swear, this WS is just one of the most exciting I have ever watched! Then there was all the defense errors to boot!! Plus, 3 times it was tied and the Cards come back and win!!

I have no idea about who will take it tonight- both teams are very determined. I have to lean toward the NL because that is my league, but, damn, Texas is showing such heart out there and it would be the first WS win for them.

No matter who wins, I am going to be happy for them. It will be a well-earned championship.

UGH, getting ready for my usual off-season slump after the WS concludes. Always a hard 6 months for me. Then again, there will be all the off season talk of who will play where and all.

Would love to see Pujols hit another homer or two. The Cards fans will miss him if he goes to another team next season.

Oh- and the Rangers catcher(Molina) is one fine ball player- he throws a hella ball to catch base runners!!!

Wow what an awesome game last night! If I was a Ranger fan I'd be ticked off. But I like them both and don't really care who wins since my Phillies are not in it. I stayed up way too late last night, but it was worth it! I think St. Louis has shifted fate in their direction. We shall see tonight. I will say both teams have superior managers!

I'm sure this isn't true because the size of the conspiracy would be too large to keep under wraps. But doesn't it seem like they purposely lose to make it a 7 game series? More money for both teams etc. Think of all the ticket sales and consession stand profits they would lose out on if it was over in 4 games. Watching some of the errors just seems like they did it on purpose. Like they would have made that catch or stopped that ground ball in a regular season game. And how many errors do you see in a regular season? Like 1 a game. Now it's 8 or 9 a game. hahaha Watching some of them strike out, just seems like he didn't even try to swing or he didnt even start to swing until the ball was past him. Just strange to me. These are the 2 best teams in basball and all of a sudden they can't catch a fly ball that isn't that far away from them. They have countless errors, or a no brainer easy tag out and their foot completely misses the bag. Anybody else think it seems strange?

OMG! How did that happen?! The Rangers were up by a two quick runs, then next thing you know, Cardinals tie it up, then NEVER LOOKED BACK. Of course the Texas pitcher was so abysmal I think a toddler could have hit off him, and I'm a Rangers fan, I can say that!

I'm sad that the Rangers lost but I partly blame the manager, Ron Washington, for leaving that starting pitcher in for so long! But kudos to the Cardinals, they did an outstanding job! And kudos to Chris Carpenter, who pitched on short rest.

Amazing. Carpenter struggled early, but settled down and did a tremendous job on short rest. Freese and Craig were awesome. Freese as the MVP was well deserved.

This was an awesome series. The Cardinals were an unexpected participant and they took full advantage of every opportunity to get themselves to this point. What an amazing group of men.

Texas did well but came up short. It was a heartbreaker cuz they did so well for so long. It is a great team. Just came up against a very determined, never say die team.

Wonderful series. Congrats to St. Louis and their fans.

WOW!!

I kept thinking Texas was going to come back with mega bats- they so have that ability. I'm happy for the Cards, but admit, it would have been great for Texas to get their first WS. And Washington was so fun to watch- obvious his guys love to play for him.

This was a great WS- that is for sure! I love it when it goes 7 games. tension thick, fans going nuts on every pitch. And Freese was so much fun to watch out there.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Pujols. I can't imagine him in another uniforn, but that would be baseball. Cardinal fans will be sick over it if he plays somewhere else, though.

This was fun here in the thread! Can't wait for March and next season. Ya'all come back now!!

Hopefully baseball fans will stick around the thread. There is more ball to go.

Free agents can declare on Sunday. Then the bidding wars or lack thereof begin.

I am expecting a lot of player movement this off season as teams look to dump unproductive contracts, structure new ones with incentives rather than guarantees, and new general managers look to stretch their budgets.

Give the lack of production from last years big contract players i.e. Crawford, Werth, Dunn etc, I am expecting a different approach this year. Pitching is at a premium, so are catchers.

And the baseball meetings are in December as well.

So, dont go too far!

Some statements were made with lower pay roll teams and I think baseball may finally come into alignment with these out of proportion salaries.

The Tigers and the Indians were very successful to name two. The Pirates
had a far better year than a year ago. (with lower payrolls)

Congratulations to both the Rangers and the Cardnials. Too bad one had to

rafael furcal, he hit the ball!! lol moving him down in the lineup worked. what a arm! what a shortstop! i think he channeled ozzie smith. i bet he thought of ozzie alot. furcal and nick punto worked magic together.

lance berkman was a game changer for the cards. i'm glad they picked him up. i followed him as an astro. i like to listen to him talk lol.

i'm glad pujols was part of this, ... a world series ring. he reminds me of cal ripken. he is good for the game. maybe he'll stay in a cardinal uniform always.

david freese and chris carpenter showed what it means to step up, big time!

one player doesn't win a game or lose a game. to all the cardinals and the rangers, i truly felt the spirit of the game. thank you.

thank you all for the enjoyment. thank you, atlast ,for your love of the game, ... starting the thread.

I know, I felt for the Rangers! I like Washington a lot and Nolan Ryan (although he could stop asking "W" to games). It had to hurt to lose the WS two times in two seasons!

I think both the Pirates and the Togers will be back with a roar- the D-Backs, too. I am keeping close tabs on my Giants and some of the guys ZI hope become starters like Crawford at Short. But, Fontenot is quite good and still under contract. I am hoping Freddie Sanchez is back at the start of training camp along with Buster Posey.

Geez, Posey has been making big strides in recovering, but he had a hell of an injury and I don't know about him catching again. He is such a good athlete, I bet he finds his way back, though.

We have got to get some strong and consistent bats going. The bullpen cannot have the kind of pressure on it that it did this past season. Those guys were terrified to throw one off pitch.

OK, now, I am going to go to the opener here in SF- and it is vs. the Pirates!!! You know, you and your partner need a vacation and what better place than the SF Bay Area in Spring!!! You two can stay in my RV and we can take BART over to SF to the games. See, way inexpensive!! Just planting an idea.... you can always rent a kayak for McCovy Cove. 'Course, I'm sitting in the stands, but I'll throw you both some lunch out there!!!

WOW, it would be way kewl if some of us from the thread could somehow meet at a game or two next season!! If my finances get better, who knows! And yes, if any of you are going to be in CA and in the Bay Area, I can set up your own little "cottage" in my drive-way and would love to go take in a game with ya'all!! Plus, hey, a night in the Castro!!

It's been a weird off season thus far. 3 teams looking for managers. No blockbuster deals yet. A handful of resignings. A bunch of team options declined.

The only free agent signing thus far that I can see is Jim Thome to the Phillies which surprised me. He is a DH not a position player.

Wonder if baseball management is taking a different, less costly approach this year. Seems there should be more rumors and rumblings by now.

Free agents are starting to make their way around the leagues.

Thome signed with the Phillies.

It was reported today that the Red Sox have lost Jonathan Papelbon to the Phillies as well. Cant say it was unexpected. He has been signing 1 year contracts with us for the past few years. Hope he does well switching leagues.

Pirates signed Rod Barajas. I am presuming he will back up their rookie. Think he will be a big help to them. Has some power and pop left in his bat.

Marlins are trying to lure everything i.e. Reyes, Pujols, Wilson etc. It is odd seeing they wont even spend the money to sign their own free agents. And they have Hanley Rameriz(?) so why go after another shortstop.

Yankees are being conspicuously quiet which is always worrisome.

Any other rumors floating around in your neck of the woods?

Ok where are the baseball people hiding?

Pujols and CJ Wilson to the Angels? Really? The Angels?

Reyes and Buehrle to the Marlins? Then again the Marlins seemed to be hell bent on signing any major leaguer who strays too close to their stadium.

Ok where are these teams getting money from to pay these contracts? They both are known to dump players rather than fork over the big bucks....so who is funding them? And why?

Lots of signings and trading going on but the big spender teams are oddly silent. What gives?

Giants have been active. Besides what you mentioned they also traded Torrez and some pitcher to the Mets for Pagan.

All my Sox have done is sign Valentine for the manager, lose Papelbon to the Phillies, re-signed Andrew Miller - why I dont know, and have Ortiz in arbitration. Oh and re-signed Scutaro. Did we run out of money or something?
We need a closer. We need starting pitching. We need a right fielder.

Had hoped my Tigers would go after Wilson. We desperately need a fifth starter. I hear we are after one of the Cardinal relievers. We also need an every day second baseman and reinforcement at third. Love Brandon Inge, but he only comes to life around the playoffs. The rest of the season he can't swing the bat.

Hopefully the Giants will have an infusion of health and get back on track. You have some awesome players who play well as a team when they are able to play.

As for the Sox, a GM and manager change tends to slow things down. We have spent a lot of money on underperformers (Lackey, DiceK, Crawford) so it is possible the purse strings have been tightened.

I dont know who owns the Angels these days. I can see signing Wilson. Signing a 32 year old Pujols to a 10 year contract when his numbers have already been declining for the last 3 years seems ill advised to me. I can see that contract for Fielder who is younger and still producing at a healthy clip.

So many free agents underperform after they get these lucrative contracts that it makes me wary. Last year it was Crawford, Werth, Dunne, Guerrero, Abreu - none producing anywhere need the expected levels.

I get concerned when teams start throwing around an infusion of cash i.e. the Mets a few years back, and load up on high priced players who never gel into a team.

There was an article yesterday saying the Angels and Rangers are beginning a competition between one another akin to the Sox and Yankees. Shrug.

Pirate fest is next weekend, all weekend. It's earlier than usual, but never too early for me. Tickets came yesterday.

Derek Lee apparently thinks he is worth more than the Pirates have offerred him and he is willing to go the arbitration route :|.

I'm not into these inflated salaries. Nate McClouth is coming back after being a HUGE disappointment in Atlanta. He was a fan favorite here, had an inflated ego, went to Atlanta and was a bust. He's coming back for a one year contract and 1.25 million (apparently thats nothing). It's still early.

What is Pirate fest?

Pirates have been busy signing folks in a low key way - Ed Bedard (my condolences), Jose Morales (who?), Nick Evans, Brandon Boggs, Jake Fox, Shairon Martis, Clint Barmes, Rod Barajas, Wyatt Toregas, Tom Wood.

McLouth at 1.25 mil is a steal. The average salary in MLB now is 3 mil! Hopefully his head has shrunk a lil and his bat will find the ball again.

Derek Lee in arbitration is good. He will put up good numbers and is an asset around the clubhouse. Good influence on young players.

National League MVP Ryan Braun has tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug and could face a 50-game suspension next season, according to ESPN’s “Outside the Lines.”
Braun, who hit .332 with 33 homers for Milwaukee in 2011, is disputing the result, which revealed he had elevated levels of testosterone in his body, according to the report.

MLB is trying to confirm the test through the World Anti-Doping Agency in Montreal, according to the report.
"There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan's complete innocence and demonstrate there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program,” a Braun spokesman said in a press release. “While Ryan has impeccable character and no previous history, unfortunately, because of the process we have to maintain confidentiality and are not able to discuss it any further, but we are confident he will ultimately be exonerated."
Braun said he will fight the accusation.

There are some baseball parks so legendary and so historic that even if you don't know the difference between a run and a hit, you'll know these stadiums by name: Wrigley, Fenway, Yankee Stadium. From Pittsburgh to San Diego, the United States is dotted with baseball treasures. Some are home to historic teams; some to younger clubs. In some parks, scores of championship banners hang from the rafters; others are quite bare. But for those looking to catch a game and also to enjoy a cool new city, there is no shortage of options. With the help of baseball connoisseur and creator of baseballparks.com (http://www.baseballparks.com/) Joe Mock (who's been to 256 different major and minor league ballparks), we give you ten of the country's best baseball stadiums, set in some of the nation's coolest cities. Regardless of your team affiliation, even if you're a die-hard fan, you'll want to attend a game on the road at one of these standout parks.
10. Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore
The city of Baltimore has one of the best locations in the nation: just north of Washington D.C. and just south of New York City. Although this often means that it's the Mid-Atlantic's forgotten city, Charm City's got lots of character, with quaint neighborhoods and cobblestone streets, rocking bars with live music, and (being a coastal town) some of the biggest and best crabs in the country. And, Baltimore can certainly claim one of the nicest parks in the nation. Mock describes Oriole Park at Camden Yards (http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/bal/ballpark/index.jsp) as a throwback park, even though it was completed in 1992. Mock says the architects looked to classic Ebbets Field, rather than the Skydome for inspiration. More importantly, it changed the ballpark business model. Instead of just selling baseball, the owners decided to sell wine, Baltimore's famous jumbo lump crab cakes, barbeque, and funny knickknacks. There's also plenty to do outside the park: Just minutes away, the inner harbor area has cool places to eat as well as the Maryland Science Center, the Baltimore Aquarium, and Baltimore Maritime Museum. The ballpark is just minutes away. For those seeking a two-fer, hop on the MARC train, Maryland's public transit trains, and head about 40 miles south to Washington D.C. for a Nationals game. The newly constructed Nationals Park (http://nationals.mlb.com/was/ballpark/index.jsp) offers one of the best views in all of Major League Baseball and the exterior is designed to fit in with all the monuments and federal buildings that characterize the nation's capital.
Baltimore Travel Guide (http://away.com/maryland/travel-v2-cid2364-baltimore-cid400173-travel.html)
9. Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles
Although some Brooklynites are still smarting from the loss of the Dodgers to Los Angeles in 1958, the team is now part of the fabric of Southern California. Appropriately, it is housed by the Taj Majal of baseball. Dodger Stadium (http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/la/ballpark/index.jsp) overlooks downtown Los Angeles and is actually built into a mountain side. Mock says the seating bowl offers a great view of the Hollywood hills. Dodger Stadium is not centrally located, but getting to Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Catalina Island, and all the other glamorous places associated with L.A. is not hard to do—just hop on the (in)famous freeway or the Metro. Of course, if you want to see another park while you're in town, the Los Angeles Angels (http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=ana) of Anaheim are just about an hour away. Visit Mickey and Minnie in Disneyland while you're at it.
Los Angeles Travel Guide (http://away.com/california/travel-v2-cid1940-los-angeles-cid400173-travel.html)
8. Safeco Field, Seattle
Safeco Field (http://seattle.mariners.mlb.com/sea/ballpark/index.jsp) is the best example of a retractable roof in all of major league baseball. The reason? Even when the roof is fully closed, the stadium isn't enclosed. There's an area above the left field seats that stays open all the time so it doesn't feel claustrophobic and still has the feel of a traditional, open-air baseball stadium. Plus, the open area provides for an excellent view, including Mount Rainier, Seattle's business district, and Puget Sound, depending on where you are sitting. Of course, no visit to Seattle is complete without a visit to the Space Needle, where you can look out over the city from 520 feet in the air. Don't miss Pike Place Market, home of the original Starbucks coffee shop, and get farm-fresh veggies, fruits, and flowers while being entertained by street performers. And take an underwater stroll in the Seattle Aquarium's glass dome, and watch sharks and other aquatic life swim by you.

I way love AT&T Park in SF! Would like it to not have a corporate name, but still love it. I hope in the future it becomes as nostalig and adored like Wriggly and other parks around the league. It has brought new business and public transporation links as well as a long-time die-hard giants fans some very good times!!!

I love the Giants! And finally, I can back to baseball- lots of stuff just been going on!

For the record... I'm pulling for the New York Giants because they're the home team (if you can consider the New Jersey Meadowlands part of New York City) . But the only New York team that has my absolut support involves a diamond, a bat, pinstripes and The Bronx (which is actually in New York City).

April can't get here fast enough.

i read that lincecum has backed off throwing his slider, ... to pace himself. i have him on my fantasy team, so i don't want him to back off for too long lol.

it's here! wednesday, april 4th, opening day! i love the smell of grass, and glove leather, and the site/feel of dirty uniforms and muddy cleats, and so on and on.
