Go Dodgers!

Okay, so they are not in the playoffs.

LOL, Greyson! But if they were, I'd actually be rooting for them. They were my Mom's team! But, my Dad liked the Giants. Kind of cute- when my parents courted, both the Giants and the Dodgers were on the East Coast where my parents lived then. They went to a lot of games between the Giants and the Bums! Even after being married well over 40 years, they took off in their travel trailer to AZ to watch pre-season camp games. And during the season they bet "one buck" (instead of their courting 5 cent bets- inflation!) on all the Giants and Dodger games at home.

Big baseball family. My big brother played Triple A and got to the minors.... but fell in love and well... that blew that! But he loved the game. Probably wouldn't have made it to the majors anyway. I always worried about what would happen if he did and ended up playing for SF or LA- can you imagine what would have transpired between my parents if he caught for either of their teams?!!!

The Giants won today!!!! Can't wait for tomorrows game!!!

They have not been in a winning season for ages, so I will root for them in the National League. Probably, though, Planeteers will influence me for the World Series. Dunno if the Giants will get there.... would be kewl, but, it seems like other teams might take the play-offs.

I'm a third generation Dodgers fan!! This year was a very hard year for me and my family. It's even harder for me though because my brother is slowly but surely converting my Dad to be a Giants fan. He says that it's because he is a baseball fan, and since we live here in SF, he can't help but root for the home team. (Unless they are playing the Dodgers of course.) In the playoffs I will try and root for the Giants, but its really hard because my blood bleeds blue. I did take my Dad on a trip to LA with my brother to celebrate his 60th birthday in August, complete with a tour of Dodger Stadium, a home game, and a ribbon board message. It was awesome!

Sooo...with that said, GO DODGERS!!!

but for now I guess Go Giants!

OK..... Geez, you and Kobe... Geez.............. Red Sox are pretty great, though. And I bet there are oodles of basebal fans that don't want the Yankees in there. New blood taking the series, right! That is one reason I am excited for the Giants, it is a young club right now and doesn't have big name players. They are what I call a real club! No stars, just heart!! Might have a great future. But, they just might clinch the series tomorrow!!!

Bonds is GONE!!! Good riddance! He tarnished them, big time! Now, they are a young club without super stars and I love 'em!! Nice to be back to wanting to watch them. Yeah.... I don't like stars in sports much when they become all of what a team is about. It's a whole team with individual talent.

Giants' Ross is Braves' pain, ends epic career
Outfielder's homer, RBI single oust Cox's Atlanta squad
By Chris Haft / MLB.com | 10/11/10 10:51 PM ET

ATLANTA -- The Giants' rich cast of performers, from castoffs to rookies to veterans, took them to a loftier stage Monday night.

San Francisco advanced to a National League Championship Series showdown against Philadelphia by outlasting Atlanta, 3-2, in Game 4 of the Division Series. Having vanquished the Braves in their best-of-five series, 3-1, the Giants will turn their attention to the Phillies in the best-of-seven NLCS beginning Saturday at Philadelphia.

The Giants earned their second trip to the NLCS since the Wild Card was introduced to the postseason in 1995. They made their only other appearance in 2002, when they topped St. Louis en route to the World Series :firetruck:

I had a hard time in the World Series last year when Cliff was pitching for the Phillies and AJ was pitching for the Yankees, but I like Cliff a little better, so I was glad the Phillies won! :D

Oh, I get this. Cox is one hell of a baseball guy! I thought the Giants stopping and giving him a standing ovation along with Atlanta fans was great- brought me back to the days that one could respect ball players and they were positive role models all the way around. And Bobby's talk after the game brought me to tears! yeah- even though I'm way excited about the young Giants playing the game with so much heart and spirit with a "team" effort, the Braves winning and Cox being out there for more games would of been OK!

So much has changed the game with the money chase, fame orientation. Cox is from an era I don't believe we will ever see again. Hope I'm wrong.

I am so old, I actually saw Willie Mays play in SF at Seals Stadium in 1958! I was 7 years old. That field was for the Minor League SF Missions before that.

The Giants won a WS as the New York Giants in 1954 before coming to SF and have never done so again while in SF. Now, our great Southern California Dodgers have won as a CA team... but my Mom continued to call them the "Dem Bums" as in Brooklyn Bums. Oh, I think I wrote that before... sorry, getting older....

That just ...rubbed me the wrong way....

New York Yankees $$ 206,738,389

Boston Red Sox $$ 160,913,333

Philadelphia Phillies $$ 142,728,379

Texas Rangers $$ 55,168,114
{which, btw,has individual salaries}
I'll just put the Highest..

1 Michael Young $13,174,974
2 Cliff Lee $9,000,000
3 Jorge Cantu $6,000,000
4 Vladimir Guerrero $5,500,000
5 Jeff Francoeur $5,000,000
6 Bengie Molina $4,500,000
7 Ian Kinsler $4,200,000

My point?....
Every Team tries to "buy" their way to the World Series...
Every Team worth their salt has a ball player on a mind-boggling payroll, some Teams are more Expensive.
That the Yankees can afford "the best"{alongside Boston}, is not their Perpetually accused Fault.
That "The best" didn't actually Do their best this year? Regrettable, but..There's always next year..So, enjoy it while it lasts..
And yes, they used to be Rangers..Imagine that? Such so-called "lacking" players were once Rangers.

What tickles me pink is, while we're butting heads over "anyone but the yankees"
Those teamplayers, rivals and all on the Field, have a Blast with their Salaries, together in a hedonistic Party of wild abandon.

Enjoy your world series...

Geez.. the World Series is going to be tough on me. The Rangers are the American League team I like! Oh well, guess no matter what happens, I'll be enjoying some good baseball and end up happy. As I try to be true to my word, I am going to root for the Rangers. But I wont be disappointed regardless of who wins cuz I am proud of both of these teams.

Who thought, way back in April, that either would get this far? The Rangers are under new baseball people ownership and have never won or I believe been to a WS. The Giants are a rejuvenated, remade team who havent won a WS since The Last Supper. Neither seems to have well known superstars but both have very scrappy, young players, playing exceptional ball who just don't know the meaning of quit. Now THATS BASEBALL!

They should consider playing games 1 and 2 on Wednesday as a double header, 'cause the rain's coming back on Thursday and sticking around for a few days.

This is what happens when they let baseball season extend in to winter, instead of playing in October like they're supposed to.

Yup! SO BASEBALL!! And I love it that both teams are without super stars that always get the press. And they play as a team because of this, I think. These guys remind me of the game of long ago. Yet, look at all the young talent! LOL.. Yes, scrappers!

Mostly, I just want to enjoy watching the WS and I think these two teams will give us a good series. Can't wait!!! I am going to try and get a peek at ATT&T Park and take a pic! And i sure hope the rains we had for a few days doesn't return! yeah, Msdemeanor is right- should not be played so late in October/November!

I haven't been this excited for a WS in a long time! I do like to see the Red Sox play in it and like the rivalry with the Yankees! Yanno- that is LONG time rivalry!! LOL BBM....your Rangers only looked good against the Yanks cause ....well enough said right! The Giants are a different caliber...one the Rangers can't hang with

Lets just keep a wee bit of perspective here. The collective stadium was holding its breath when the Rangers took a 2-0 lead by the second inning and Lincecum was looking like he would rather be getting a haircut than pitching.

Then when the Giants were able to unravel Cliff Lee, you all were able to suck in some air.....blue is not a pretty color on Giant fans.

Then again, those pesky little Rangers still didnt lay down and roll over. They just kept plugging away.

Also remember that the Rangers have to play by National league rules for a few games and it is an adjustment. Heck if Guerrero HAS to play right field rather than DH, he should at least be entitled to use a motorized scooter out there. Under the Americans With Disabilties Act, it is a reasonable accomodation. :girlonatv: Gawd, I move better than he does even after I dislocate my back.

Ok I have totally forgotten where I was going with this......

Oh yeah, the Giants are a different caliber. But I think it was really sweet of the Rangers to let them win ONE just so they know what its like to play with the big boys. ;)

Ok if you dont get my warped sense of humor, feel free to send me a pm. Otherwise, LETS PLAY BALL!

Oh, I will always love Nolan! But, my heart will always be in San Francisco! Geez, Nolan didn't have a very happy face when the Rangers walked in all those runs! Yikes! But, I put that on their manager. And in game 1, "the Freak" was actually not at his best for the Giants. But the job was done! Cain was amazing last night! Focused, never rattled. I am so impressed with the Giants bull pen. Bunch of young guys playing with so much heart! That said, the Rangers have some great pitchers, too. H. W. Bush actually doesn't bother me as much as Dumb-Dubya'. At least he has a brain and was really more of a moderate Republican. Not really a whacko fundie. Overall, if the GOP was still the party it was in Eisenhower's time, I would not be so negative about it. It is really sad that it has gone the way it has. But the saddest thing with the GOP right now is not giving a flying Hooray for getting the US back on it's feet- their newest mission is simply to defeat Obama in 2012- NOT dealing with what is necessary to get people back to work.

So, I will tip my hat to the elder Bush on game day. Afterall, "W" has only half his genes.....

GO GIANTS!

Fox Won't Let SF Show World Series Game 3 On Civic Center Big Screen, Game 4 Or 5 Possible If We Clinch

If the Giants win Saturday ... I am going to the SF Civic Plaza to watch on Sunday! Got my folding chair, BART Pass and sandwich stuff all ready! Will take hot chocolate, too! I don't care if it rains! I'm going!! Going to bundle up my little Frog Dog in his winter jacket and he's coming, too!

Anyone on the site that lives here that is going, let me know!!! This one is for my Dad! I wish he was still living to see his team these days! Hey Pop, thank you for taking me to see Willie Mays play as a kid. I loved going to games with you and learning baseball strategy from someone that loved it like you did! Good memories and a great Dad! And thank you for coming to my softball games even though, we both knew I could have played real baseball with the boys! And my older sister, Jeanne was one hell of a second base player

Damn, I was so born before Title IV!!! But did compete in tennis in college. But that just wasn't the same! I am so glad that girls and young women of today have so much more in the sports world.

Damn, I hope they win today. After Burrell's catch just a few ago... I'm feeling good! But, just one game at a time. Not going to get cocky, the Rangers are home and been beat badly in the first 2.

OMG! We both have the same Giants fan history! I remember all of those guys, too! Those were the days! Ball players that didn't go the drug route and were simply talented players. Liked Kirt Manwaring and Will Clark, too.

OOPPPPSSSSSS... Rangers just scored with a 3 run homer.... the Torture is ON! Not worried, these are the come back kids!!

Well, since it is the first WS for the Rangers ever, I'm good with their win today. Hell, all those Rangers fans in their home park! But, the score tells me that the giant's bull pen is up to snuff and overall, it is solid from starters to the closer. We are hitting well in post season and texas certainly didn't rack up the runs. just have to see how it goes.

Sure were a lot of pretty texas women fans, though. Yanno how this butch has a thang for Southern women.... But, seeing Dubya' next to nolan was hard to take. I know, he used to own the Rangers, but, YUCK. But, that is no reflection on the fans.

LOL, in SF at local bars where fans were watching here, there were mega-BOOS at the clips of Bush. Many unemployed patrons watching today. In fact, this is one of the reasons I am glad to see baseball fans here and in Arlington enjoying themselves. Something to feel a lift from.

Even if texas wins all 3 at home, they will have to come back here for the end. WOW, a great Series! I like it when it goes back and forth. And that means more business for both cities just before the Holidays. Maybe some part-time jobs have been hired for the WS in both camps. I know, my brain works in mysterious ways... really not just a sports event.

Now......

GO underdog GIANTS! Your heart and team effort will come through in the end! I want them to win it here anyway and that mean't a loss in Texas!

No matter, let's all enjoy this World Series!

But, Day'am, I wanted to go over to the SF Civic center tomorrow! Maybe, Monday.....

This is really fun having this thread and posting with other baseball fans!

My prediction for Game 4- Giants win by 1!!! Wanna make a wager, anyone??? If I eat crow, I know things will change when the series is back in SF! Just a matter of how many games we need to take here to win it! I think it is going to be a nail-biter for all up to the end.

I wonder what the differences are in coaching/management philosophy and styles between these teams are. What you say here rings true for me- both teams have very young players, yet, the Giants young guys just don't look rattled much at all. Bumgarner was so focused- they all seem to be. When he was between being on the mound, he sat alone and at times looked almost like he was meditating. LOL... I'm such a woo-woo Californian! but something is jiving with those guys and how they concentrate!

I keep thinking it has to do with the coaching staff and the Giants manager. I did some coaching (very little as I just was pre-Title IV in women's sports in my young days) in college for some middle school girls programs- just thinking back about motivational techniques and confidence building.

It would be great to have the Giants take it at home, but, a win tonight would be fine by me! But, the Rangers could come out battling and I know they have talent. So, I'm just sitting back and watching! Plus, this is a big deal for Rangers fan, too. First WS ever.

Gotta check to see if that big screen thing is really going to happen in SF tonight! Hope so- it would be great to hang with some fans and watch in a sort of "being there" way.

I havent seen enough of either team to ascertain a style or philosophy. I have questioned Washingtons handling of the pitching staff....seems to me he leaves some pitchers in too long and pulls others too fast.

Plus, it is an adjustment for both teams to have to play by the others rules depending on who's park you are in. I cant imagine what it is like to have to go without your designated hitter - its a team used to playing with certain players in certain order. All of a sudden, they are a batter short and pitchers who havent swung a bat since little league are trying to remember how to bunt. How do you decide who to bench? Whats more important, the defense or the offense? I dont think I would be wanting to have to make those decisions.

Yet there are always the intangibles to deal with. The unsung heroes, the leaders of a team who can inspire and motivate just because they BELIEVE, the ones who dig down a little deeper in the clutch, the ones who do the little things that start rallies etc.

Nonetheless, both of these teams are here because they deserve to be. The Giants havent lost a step. They seem to be just bearing down and coming thru when they need to. Rangers do not seem to be exhiniting the same confidence, nor do they seem to be relying on those things which got them this far. All we can ask as fans, is that they all try the best they can.

I'm proud of both of these teams. Win or lose, they accomplished something special just to get to this point.

Yeah, all the sports shows have all kinds of things to say and I think it is great that these two are there. It does feel good to have teams that have battled their hearts out during the season be in the WS. Just feels like baseball!!!

I have no interest in present day baseball whatsoever but have a strong interest in vintage imaginery of the early New York Yankees' sides.

For many years, I've collected original Yankees photographs from their origins in 1903 through to the late 1940s, with a particular liking for items from the 1920s. I'm not really sure what started the interest but just find this vintage imagery so alluring and way ahead of its time.

This sound wonderful! My Dad had some vintage baseball photos- I believe a nephew has them now.

After the incident of a fan getting attacked in LA this past week (he is in a medically induced coma at present), I'm having a difficult time with the season starting. I have loved the game all my life and enjoy going to games to this day. But, this makes me sick.

The old days of baseball? Like when the Giants and Dodgers were New York teams ;)

As a European sports fan, I just don't understand (or like) the US franchise system where teams with long-established routes in one city can up and leave to another part of the country like that.

I can see your point here. My parents were huge baseball fans- and "courted" when the Giants and Dodgers were NY teams. Since they eventually settled in northern CA, they were happy about these teams ending up here. Although, they sure talked up the days of the "Bums".

Presumably one of the grounds where the SF Seals played? Until recently, I had a Japanese program for a goodwill tour that the Seals made to Japan in 1949.

My young nephew is half-Japanese and the Japanese are very interested in baseball so I'm determined that he'll be raised as a Yankees fan :)

Their history was so romantic - always the bridesmaid and never the bride ... until 1955 when "next year finally came" :) ...... one of the best stories of sporting history.

Ken Burns' Baseball, a documentary series from the early to mid 1990s, is a great program with some absolutely fantastic footage.

Sure did!! I have so many great memories of seeing them play back then- and Willie Mays. My brother played Triple A ball (catcher) was scouted by the Giants. His HSW team took the state championship one year. Never made it though, but baseball was such a part of my childhood. I was the "bat girl" for his HS and triple A team. And he broke my fingers more than once and my nose when I would catch for him because he wanted to be a pitcher. I played softball, but back then, girls sports were nothing. Pre-Title IX. Sucked. But we had hella baseball games in the neighborhood that were co-ed. My parents both played, too.

Yes, this great- and you are right that the modern day MLB has lost some of the magic. One of the things I really enjoyed about last year's SF Giants was that they were a team of young, no-name players- a "team!" No super stars. Plus, I love Lincecum's long hair and Wilsons beard.

Phooey- they are getting beat by the Dodgers tonight!!

The Dodgers trounced the Giants pretty good this weekend for the opening of the season.

They sure did- damn! except, I always root for Dodger Blue when my Giants are out of the play-offs and the Dodgers are in. Always for the National League.

Thought the Giants might over take the dodgers last night- phooey!! Hoping next time these teams play in SF, I will catch a game at the park. I have a couple of nephews that are Dodger (from So Cal) fans and we always have a good time going to see our teams together- lots of attitude and outlandish claims!

I am soooooo excited baseball is back!!! I love me some baseball. I don't have a favorite team, that would be like work for me. I generally cheer for the brightest jersey, I am well aware that makes some of you hardcore fans roll your eyeballs. I like the stats. I have some favorite players. I really enjoy watching the pitcher/backcatcher teams. I just enjoy it all.

Oh and I LOVED watching the Bluejays opening game... Oh Canada Our Home and Native Land....

Watched Tim Lincicum pitch a shut-out today against the A's. It is my sister's 74th BD and her Grandson's 32nd. We all got together at AT&T Park and had a great time. Beautiful day and it was good to be with some family. My brother-in-law was not a jerk- so all went well.

GO GIANTS!!

I like baseball cuz it seems to have been a tame sport compared to other sports.

But, I am seeing things last year and this year that is making me a bit uncomfortable. One of my teams pitchers beaned someone in the head resulting in multiple facial factures but hopefully no eye injury. It brought me back to the day, before helmets were required, when Tony Conigliaro got beaned in the face and it changed his career and life forever.

This week it was a clean tho ugly play at the plate resulting in a broken leg and torn ligaments for Buster Posey.

It upsets me when people get hurt like this.

Whoa- didn't know that was intentional! That was horrific and just wrong- that player was hurt badly.

It wasnt intentional. It was an up and in pitch that got away. Tony suffered
a facial fracture, dislocated jaw and retina damage.

The pitcher Jack Hamilton of the Angels was never the same either. After the incident, he was unwilling to pitch inside anymore. As a result he became a much less effective pitcher. He retired 2 years later.

Is it possible to change "your" team?

Would you change "your" team for a partner?

What if "your" team and your partner's team are diametrically opposed???

What if "your" team sucks and your partner's is always in the headlines...in a good way?

HELP! I need answers!
