I'm thinking how long I plan to be in this bah humbug mood without snapping out of it. I'm making a list of things that may improve my mood:

Going to the gym, but first:
Joining a gym
Mowing the lawn
Using a semi legal herbal product
Having a late lunch
Taking a very long shower and exfoliating
Checking on the progress on the butch belly I've been growing
Packing up summer clothes
Burning a CD for my friend in Colorado
Brushing my kitties' fur

hmm... or maybe a nap

Right now, I am very worried about my dog Jeffrey. He sneaked off from Jennifer, Kevin and I four and a half hours ago. I have walked the woods, hunting property and ridden the roads calling his name and whistling as loud as I can. No sign of him anywhere. Will be dark in an hour. Coyotes, timber rattlers and other dangerous species will be hunting. My heart is heavy with fear for him. Jeffrey has to come home soon!!!

Jeffrey just came home at dark. I was so relieved and happy to see him, I got down on the ground, hugged him, kissed his face and bawled like a baby at the same time. He was gone five and a half hours on an adventure to who knows where.

I cannot explain the stress the darkness brought on me. I know what is in these woods and comes alive after dark. I have been wearing snake boots all day because it has been unusually warm today for November.

Jeffrey sure was thirsty but he is fine. I am putting a 5 pound sirloin roast in the oven now for the three pooches' late dinner. :)

Wearing hearing aids is not fun. There are reasons some kids at schools for the deaf kick them around like hacky sacks. Maybe closed captioning would help. There are subscription services that are better than the freebie captioning you can get without a plan for some shows. I don't know about all sets but mine is older and has the get freebie captioning for some shows option. It can be set by remote control to turn that feature on/off so you don't always have to have it on. New the set I have cost me around $300.00 but now sells at Walmart for half that price and there are even less expensive ones. I think all newer TV sets have it now. Craigslist is sometimes an option. My son gets all his television sets for a good price off there every time he upgrades and so far has had really good luck with that. Also I'm not sure who does it, or if they even do it anymore but it used to be if you needed assistive devices you could sometimes get them on loan or with grants. I don't have that info but below are some links to sites where someone might know more about this. Maybe turning it up is helping him now but later if his ability to hear changes he might need some further help to get full enjoyment out of watching his favorite shows. Sometimes people will be persuaded by asking what about the neighbors, kids, grand kids, pets in the home. Anyhow perhaps you already know all of this or more than I do but still for future readers who might not know anything at all, it's good information to have out there, and at least a place to start.

My brother and I were in the middle of planning a real party when he died. My parents don't want that party now. Understandable. Every celebration right now has a gaping hole. So I'm planning a home dinner party for them. I keep reaching for the phone to call my brother to ask his thoughts. Anyway, I have a nice dinner planned at home. Their grandkids and daughter in law will be there. I got them wind chimes that play a wedding waltz when the wind hits right.

Procrastinating reading this thread when I really ought to be doing other things. :-} FiresignFemme, most PCs over time acquire large amounts of cruft, which (a) takes up space and (b) can fragment what space your PC has left, and (c) some of it (depending on what it is) can even eat up processing power on your PC directly. (a) and (b) can do the same indirectly because your computer needs to form a "scratch pad" area where it can retain temporary copies of things its working on before it's done working on them. If your PC is running out of memory or the memory is fragmented, this will slow it down. So clearing out cruft nearly always helps to some degree!

Since it is going to be super hot today, I might try to highlight my hair and go sit outside in the sun, so it develops the color perfectly. Or not. lol. I really need to nap and rest and nap and rest because last week was a rough week at work and I expect more turbulence this week.

Still, the prevailing wind of contentment resides in my life (for which I am deeply grateful).

I am thinking about whether it is ok to ask ***** to desist from posting 10-12 fluff posts in a row to which few if any respond to and forcing any thoughtful posts off the home page before anyone has a chance to see them, whether they would have responded or not.

I'm not sure if it's ok to say this ( and I have pleaded this question privately ) but I, for one, am getting tired of posting only to see my post almost disappear before I've finished typing it.

specs:
Smith &Wesson 686 Plus, stainless steel, 6" barrel, shoots both .357 Magnum & .38 Special loads, holds 7 rounds, the action is both single and double, lifetime warranty, MFR Model #: 164198

It is so easy and fun to shoot. I love everything about it!

A friend of mine who hates guns said this about it and I quote:

"Well, it is a beautiful machine. And if anyone can be a responsible gun owner, it’s you. I know you and anyone around you will be mighty safe."

I could not believe she, of all people, said it was beautiful. *laughing*

This post was reported for naming a specific member so I removed the name of the member for TOS compliance, but since we do actually get a lot of complaints about a member repeatedly covering the page with only their fluff posts, I do want to keep the content of this post. While there are no rules about this, let's just use common sense and keep in mind that to cover the page in quick fluff posts, this "buries" everyone else's post, some of whom, like Collette said, may have taken the time to post something thoughtful that other members would like the opportunity to read. I don't know if people have heard the phrase, "Step up, step back," but this means "step up" and post if you don't usually post because we'd like to hear from you, and "step back" if you post a lot because it's nice to make room for the quieter among the bunch. Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to read this.

I'm chopping up a tomato, cutting up lime, cutting up some mango, washing, drying and chopping cilantro, cutting and smashing an avocado, chopping an onion, slicing some jalopeneos, frying up minced pork, turning the oven on to warm tortillas, and ripping up those damned "Recipe Cards" that promised me an easy quick to make "Oaxaca Style Dinner" in minutes.

I've asked everyone I know to shoot me if I EVER EVER fall for the "we provide the ingredients and you just do the cooking " scam.

$30 for a tomato, a lime, 3 small pieces of mango, a few sprigs of cilantro, an onion, abt 5 onces of raw minced pork,2 jalepeneos, and a pkg of unlabeled spices and a 3X4 recipe card that says, "chop ingredients, fry meat, warm tortillas before adding your ingredients.

Never, ever, ever again. And I'm just about to toss their box of "Easy Make Korma Beef and Rice". Life's too short.

Your going to cry ~ and it's ok let it all out ~ someday you will cry less ~ times help heal the wounds but your never over it ~ you will find yourself referring to specific times like " that was 3 months b4 my mom passed " always referring to mom ~ it's a hard to lose your mom. or dad ~ that's why I always feel people go threw relationship breakups like their mourning a death ~ same loss ~ empty and full of emotions. you will be ok. watch CNN its a hoot with dump the trump always tweeting. lolol oyyy

As much as you are packed with family and responsibilities right now, you are in the moment and that is just where you need to be right now so I'm really glad you are able to be there. The intensity of caring for your mom for all this time and the sharp pain of losing her is going to take over in mysterious ways for some time. And like Ocean said, there's just going to be a permanent "before" and "after" when you draw up memories. Sometimes it's sweet. Sometimes it's a kick in the gut.

Just keep taking care of yourself best you can. Drink water, sleep, realize that you too are healing.

Right now I'm listening to the construction work going on across the street...going gangbusters...and not a female worker amongst them...Good paying jobs, I'd say, particularly when almost all service industry jobs, where women tend to employed are shrunken down to almost nothing.

We need more women trained in the trades...more women in ALL of those trades. Those young guys I see out there likely aren't supporting families beyond minimum but I'd bet that many female tradeswomen carry a large load of responsibility.

We need to stop the myth that jobs for men are a priority cause they are the only breadwinners that count.

Back in the day, we had a ditch rider that set up water sets for our property, twice a month. I forget what you call it, but "water sets" is what I call watering the property (making sure the lawn, flower beds, raised garden beds and newly planted trees -- get water). It's timed sets of watering. 30 minute sets. It takes a couple hours to make sure every area gets the water it needs to survive the heat wave.

Finally after hours and hours couldn't go on a minute longer, had to catch a little sleep before finishing up this evening. Frustrating because the whole time I knew this was something either of my sons could do in less than an hour, maybe even half. I kept at it though and got it done without any help from either. ATM: I AM DEATH CLEANING ... "DOSTADNING"

There’s a Swedish word for declutter: dostadning, a hybrid of the words for death and cleaning. And as morbid as it sounds, that’s exactly what death cleaning is: the process of cleaning house before you die, rather then leaving it up to your loved ones to do after you’re gone.

A new book called The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning makes the case that the task isn’t morbid at all. Author Margareta Magnusson—a Swedish artist who describes herself as somewhere between age 80 and 100—says it’s “more like a relief,” and that it has benefits you can enjoy while you’re still very much alive.

“Generally people have too many things in their homes, it’s a good thing to get rid of things you don’t need.” Magnusson says she’s always death cleaned, “because I want to have it nice around me, keep some order.”

Magnusson says people should start thinking about death cleaning as soon as they’re old enough to start thinking about their own mortality. “Don’t collect things you don’t want,” she says. “One day when you’re not around anymore, your family would have to take care of all that stuff, and I don’t think that’s fair.”

Keep a “throw-away box,” things that are “just for me.” When she dies, her children know they can simply throw that box away, without even looking through its contents.

“There can also be something very empowering and healthy about taking care of your own space and making it more organized while you’re still around.”

Death cleaning may have benefits for the cleaners themselves, and not just for their loved ones. Clutter in the home can raise stress levels and reduce productivity. As adults get older, a house full of stuff may also raise risk for falls and create other health and safety hazards.

Many people may engage in a type of death cleaning without calling it that—when they downsize from a large house to a small apartment as they get older, for instance. “It’s a new way of thinking about the grunt work that comes along with those transitions, which can be really stressful.”

Death cleaning is an ongoing process that’s never truly finished. “You don’t know when you are going to die, so it goes on and on,”

Death cleaning ends with death.

Seems reasonable to me.

I have been watching a Ball Room Dancing Championship video, over on YouTube, which was filmed back in the 1982. I couldn't find any Dancing with the Stars full tv show videos, so it's watching this video, lol.

It looks like an awful lot of effort goes into ball room dancing. For example, wearing a permanent smile on your face, while you dance all over the floor. Lots of leg work. Staying in tune with the orchestra and your dance partner. It's entertaining to me, listening to how ball room dancers are evaluated, based on their performance, style of dance, appearances, etc.

It's almost like watching coverage of sports events, kind of.

And it's kind of charming.

I got to thinking that possibly the dance participants back then were most likely in their 30s or so. Which if they're still around, they might be in their late 70s, early 80s? But gosh, what a lot of energy it takes to do Ball Room Dancing.

Mowing lawn today ... came in to cool off for a while and hit the gatorade ... soon as I have finished mowing, I plan to kill most of my lawn with salt and vinegar. I am stocked up heavy on these two ingredients. The grass won't need mowing for about a month -->> it will come back even healthier. With this heat and the real estate I have to mow, I cannot keep it short enough. Snakes do not like short grass because it blows their cover and they love to hide.

Was it like this (https://www.vice.com/en/article/7x5vje/goat-curry-with-sweet-potato-gnocchi-recipe)? Or this (https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/damaris-phillips/goat-cheese-gnocchi-with-bacon-dates-and-kentucky-wine-sauce-2356034)?

Normal is as normal does. :)

I'm not a fan of tripe or gizzards or squirrel but it's normal for people to eat them where I come from.

Anyway, now I'm looking at a recipe for goat cheese mushroom gnocchi that sounds really good.

Is this the one that calls for: Brine the goat leg: Dissolve the salt in 8 quarts water. Add the goat leg, taking care to fully submerge it, and refrigerate overnight? Is so, I don't think my refrigerator is large enough to hold a goat leg..:|

Right now, I'm super annoyed at my local police precinct. Specifically, at the detective assigned to a security issue at my work. We know what happened, have it on video, can give her the name of the person responsible and can clearly see that person in the process of the issue, the customer who opened the report has given her all the information about the issue and yet, she still has not come to the site to investigate.

This is not Providence. There aren't riots and protests and such that might be keeping the department busy. This is a quiet area and someone who has EVERYTHING they need for a slam dunk case and they are not following through.

So, right now, I'm fuming.

Packing a care package for my daughter's bestie. They lived together for three years of college, including a year in a very tiny hobbit cabin in the woods so, I consider him family at this point. He's among the displaced of those who graduated from college during a pandemic. He floated for 4-5 months working here and there but it wasn't working out so he was trying to stay home with his parents but they threw him out as a response to him having had top surgery and changing his name. My daughter is leaving in the afternoon on the 25th to help move him into some sort of boarding house. No real kitchen except a kitchenette in the laundry room? So I'm packing up a portable electric double burner and crock pot and well, he will fuss but I'm loading him up with groceries too. Planning my list. I know he loves to cook and eat healthy so that's what my Mama bear is setting up for him.

It hurts my heart too. He's just such an amazing person. Triple major in college graduated with all A grades. Always worked, sometimes more than one job at a time. Volunteered. Black belt. Humble and creative and a true friend. Not that ANY person deserves to be thrown out of their house but jeeze. He's like a parent's dream in my book.

Fortunately no appointments today so I can just relax, nap later if I need to. Either way it's going to be great to be done with this pain it's not so bad now just wearing on me.
