Loki has a kitty cold. He is sneezing and his pretty little eyes are runny. Poor lil guy. It hasn't slowed him down from finding a way onto the kitchen countertop (big no no) and trying to eat my leftover chicken pot pie (another big no no).
Frankly, he's trying to get a kitty whoopin'. Luckily, he's so darn cute. He also spent an hour and a half pinning me down on the sofa this morning while I watched a few shows on the DVR and he napped. For a kitten, he's getting chunky and bossy.

The baby kitty is laying on my lap and the kitten is laying next to us on the couch. It is a snuggle fest. Haha!

Before I left to come home, my BFF 's dogs went on an barking fest, lol, among other things. Here's what happened moments before I left to come home:
Blue healer lab mix: "Oh, let me bark super loud and spazz out at the glass patio doors because I saw the wind shift direction!"
Jack Russell: "Hey, blue healer lab mix, I never said you could bark, so lemme piss all over your feet because I can."
Miniature poodle mix: Not to be outdone by Jack Russell and blue healer lab mix, says "Hey, lemme sink my teeth into your necks and you can drag me around for a few seconds".
Meanwhile, my pet Lesbian caT (Ms Petunia) sits quietly pretending to not notice anything the dogs are doing to each other, and just yawns meekly, then smiles her famous Cheshire smile and bats her lashes a couple of times. :giggle:
BUT, little miniature poodle mix has learned to not cross Ms Petunia because the last time they pulled an stunt on her, she she sent them to the vet.
Other than these few spells of behavioral spats between the three dogs, who obviously outnumber my caT, life for all them is copacetic. They're spoiled rotten and loved by my best friend and her family and myself, as well. :hk28:
Perhaps another could be added to that equation to make it the PERFECT snuggle fest?
Perhaps, but two kitties is my limit.

My kitty Allie kept walking around meowing to me as if trying to tell me something. It wasn't a "I'm in pain" meow so I tried all the usual things. I made sure she had food, I checked to make sure the litter box was clean, I offered her to go outside, but she just kept meowing and wandering around.
I even tried a little therapy. You know ... "I understand that something is going on and you're trying to tell me but I don't understand. Can you try some other way to communicate?" She didn't seem to understand what I was trying to say since she doesn't speak English and I don't speak meow.
I open the window blinds and she calmed down. She jumped up on the windowsill and looked out. I guess she just wanted to see outside but didn't want to be out in the cold. I don't blame her! :cold:
The neighbor has 2 Greyhounds they are both very sweet now my Phoebe girl wants nothing more then to pun and play with them so today she and one of the grays were running along the fence together would have been soooo cute except that Phoebe was running her mouth the whole time early morning on a sunday

I opened up a box of new litter last night and changed it out. Came out this morning to find that Loki had dug out some of the new litter from inside the box of litter (only has the tab opening at the top of the box for pouring) all over the floor. Well, the joke's on him. I swept it up and put it in his box. I'm not wasting it. It was expensive!

The dog frolicked in the back yard for quite some time this morning. He's having a second puppyhood and it's sweet to see.
The old lady cat stared me down in the early morning hours, apparently starving to death.
The little boy cat then took the spot next to me in bed and insisted on lengthy belly rubs.
My little girl cat... sigh.. she's been sick for over a week. Jaundice and lethargic. Vet wanted to keep her in on iv fluids and a feeding tube because she stopped eating. But I can't do that to her. So I've been feeding her with a syringe every two - three hours all week. Bone stock and some cat milk. So she snuggled with me and drank her breakfast and washed her face and went back to bed :( I'm grateful I work so close to home that I can run back and forth during the day and take care of her.

Monte has decided being a vampire kitty and up all night is so much better than being awake with the human prison guard all day long. This morning there is evidence of him having been all sorts of everywhere he wasn't supposed to be. Maybe I should crate him. I don't know. I might wake up and find he's busted a tooth or two what for having attempted to try and chew through the wire to escape.

We all tried to snuggle on the swing to enjoy some sunshine...
But Skippy Dippy did his chihuahua shake so bad it felt like earthquake shakes...
Poor Tash went stiff as a board, and her eyes looked like she thought we were going for a ride (she gets car sick)
And my WooBear sat up with his face to the wind and as the swing moved back-n-forth, I could swear he was trying to say "Weeeeeee...higher mom, higher!"
When I drove up in the dark after a business trip both kitties were looking out the window and happy to see me.
Home sweet home.

I have 3 dogs.
A few minutes ago, I took 9 month old Jeffrey out on a leash for last call pee break before going to bed. I have to take him out by himself on a leash ... else, all he does is solicite Jennifer to play with him and he forgets to pee. When he had completed the mission, I put him inside and brought Jennifer and Kevin out unleashed. They are mature dogs. They know to pee and come on in. While we three were outside, Jeffrey sneaked into the bedroom and got Jennifer and Kevin's chewies. Like I really wouldn't notice him standing there with both their chewies in his mouth. It never ends with him. Jeffrey has to always be into something. That is what he does.

Something about the fall weather apparently has gotten into Diva Kitty. She has made two serious attempts to escape! She hasn't tried this for years. She's also been standing at the glass door, looking out wistfully. I feel so bad for her. On the other hand, she has never been an outdoor kitty. I don't know what she thinks she would do once she got out there.

Loki scared himself and us last night. We have a cat tower that's more of a sky rise than a condo. Usually it's fine but he was playing very hard and let's call it 'enthusiastically' and it tipped. It fell onto some lighting and that hit a piece of artwork on our wall and that all crashed into my computer desk. We had to rehang the artwork and one of the light bulbs broke but the lil daredevil was fine. He gave the tower a wide berth the rest of the night, though.
He was a snuggle bug during our morning snuggle time so maybe today won't be as rowdy a day as yesterday.

Because I am having the front doors scraped and painted and they have to be open sometimes, the cat is being restricted to two very large rooms and a bathroom. We have lived in apartments not much bigger, yet you'd think I was keeping her trapped in a closet for all the meowing and attempts at escape. And it's not just when i am in the other side. I am spending almost all my time with her. Nevertheless, it seems like the promised land is being denied her. I will be so glad when this is done tomorrow.

Loki was actually a darling this morning for the morning snuggles and Daddy joined in, which was really nice since He's usually getting ready for work while Loki and I roll around in the covers. He's able to chill out a little more as time goes on, which is good. We're trying to teach him the bed is for sleep and petting, not playing.
Later, he whined a lot and begged for food that he didn't need and he also got into the craft room....a biggo no no.....TWICE.
At least it started out nice.

Tiny Dog is disconcerted about having to do walkies on a 6 foot lead. Normally, we walk wherever, and then I let her roam around on a 16-foot Flexilead and let her decide where to potty - but the Flexilead finally got too knotted to unwind. Tiny isn't used to being so close to me when she goes.
A new Flexilead will be arriving from Amazon tomorrow. It's a newer 26-foot version. Boy, will she be surprised!

Oh, I forgot to give an update on my favorite 3 dogs and Ms Petunia (the caT):
When I arrived at my BFF's home yesterday, Simon (Jack Russell) began to howl his words in such a sad, happy way, lol. He gets very talkative around me, when he hasn't seen me for a spell.
Toffee, the blind Blue Healer Lab mix, she gets jealous when Simon wants all the attention, so after I got settled into the big easy living room rocking chair, Toffee got up on the arm of the chair to 'rule the roost".....So I rocked in the chair and sang sweet lullabyes to her, and she just lapped up all the special attention I gave to her. She was so happy, that she never even went into a fit of barking when anyone came to the front door and rang the doorbell. This was such a huge sign in her behavior that everyone came out to the living room to see why Toffee wasn't up to her usual "I'll bark til your ears fall off!" LOL
Buttons, the tiny miniature poodle mix? Oh,,,,, he didn't pull any fast moves on anybody but just stayed on the sofa.....I'll guess before I got there, Buttons was a very bad dawg. :(
But I gave Buttons a treat for not peeing on Simon and biting Toffee in the neck.
Ms Petunia???
She's my baby girl, she sure is. After the dogs went outside for a spell, she came out of her hiding place and raced up to my lap to say, 'Hello', then she promptly stretched out on my legs and rolled over onto her back, for a long tummy rub. After a while, she got up and crawled up to kiss me on the nose.

Loki was sooo good this morning, snuggling in bed, but now he's being rather persistent about getting into my lap but there's no room for him when I'm on the computer. He got lots of love last night from both of Us while We were watching Going in Style (which I knew DC would love and He did) and snoozed in many yoga positions. I think he 's going to be sooo excited when We bring home his sister! Hopefully next week.

We got the new flexi lead today and tiny dog was so happy to go out and have room to walk around. One thing I didn't consider in advance, I have to keep her reeled in somewhat until she is done with her business. The 26-foot lead gives her so much more room to roam around then the old 16 foot lead did, that it takes her longer to make up her mind where to go. There are so many more things to smell with a 52 foot diameter

About my babies ...
Big Drama!
Yesterday about 5:00 a.m., I was sitting in a chair next to the bed reading online news. All 3 of my dogs were sound asleep on the bed. Suddenly, young Jeffrey fell off the bed. This boy is so lanky with the longest legs I have ever seen. When he hit the carpet, he was terribly frightened and began thrashing and kicking very hard. I rushed to him, got down on my knees to comfort him. I also had to grab the lamp thinking it would soon join Jeffrey on the floor too. His kicks were vibrating this little nightstand table I built.
Thankfully he had no injuries. This is the 4th time he has fallen off the bed. I sat with him a few minutes to get him calmed down and assured that he was okay, all the while stifling a giggle. He crawled back on the bed. I had to go to the kitchen and laugh like all hell.

He proved me wrong about his being a sorry excuse for a bug/mouse/lizard catcher.
When I came home for lunch he was sitting in the middle of the living room making an odd meowing sound, and I noticed something under his paw. A lizard. This was the second one to find its way inside in a couple of weeks. The first, I woke one morning to find its little silhouette inside my bedroom curtains. 😳
Anyway, kitty kept lifting his paw up and letting it run around so he could chase it and then catch it under his paw again. He held the intruder down until I was able to catch and release it outside using a plastic cup. Teamwork.

Loki has been soooo good the past few days with cuddling in the morning and today We are bringing home his sister! So excited!
As to be expected, kitty girl is shy and is spending some time contemplating life under the chaise lounge. Unexpectedly, Loki hissed at her a bit, so We loved and loved on him so he knows that she won't take away any of his human love and attention. They will be scoping one another out for a couple days, most likely.
On the way home, she was alert and looking out of her carrier but not panicking or being too stressed so I think things will work out fine. They just need a couple of days to work out their place in this world. She's super dark grey with a white smudge on her nose and white paws and a bit on her belly. I get final say on the naming of this fur baby as DC named Loki. I've got lots of choices but I want to see how, if at all, her personality changes when she's more comfortable.
Bonus: all of Us, DC, myself and both kitties all have May birthdays. Kismet!

I have not. I didn't know that, actually, as I'm not a comic reader but I think that's awesome. I'm leaning towards more 'pretty' names because I got vetoed out of 'pretty' names for Loki. We've bounced a few names, but We'll take a bit of time before We finally settle on one.
She does have part of one ear missing so I'm considering a warrior's name as well. Clearly, she's strong. And quiet. So, We'll find a strong and silent type name for her, most likely.
Picked up Resue Kitteh, and she is now hiding under the bed.
That's typical. It may take a few days for her to feel comfortable enough to come out. Just make sure she knows where her food and litter box are and she'll come out when she's ready. It takes young ones less time before their curiosity outweighs their fear or concern and off they go.
That's where Sage (shelter name) is right now, but more so because Loki's being a douche. He hissed at her off an on....because she initially chose his favorite hiding place as her hiding place I think....and now that We've given her free reign of the bedroom and won't let him in, he keeps trying to get in there and then going back to where she was and looking for her.
They had him in a cage by himself at the shelter so it may take him some time to learn to play well with others. Luckily, We know that Sage is fine with rambunctious kittens as We played with many of them and then, when DC focused in on her, We brought her in with another kitten we were considering and saw how they got on.
So, she's tucked in safe and sound. DC found her underneath my head under the bed this morning and until she comes out on her own, that's where she'll stay. It took Loki 2 days to get comfy enough to come out on his own and explore everything once I let him loose in the big space. It may take our girl more time because of her experience with Loki but as long as she has access to food/water/litterbox, she will be fine. The young rebound and grow quickly, thank goodness.

Tonight Tiny Dog is spending her first night away from home in a boarding facility at her vet's. I'm afraid she will be sad and scared. She's 11 years old, and had other homes briefly before she came to my house, but that was a long time ago. The vet was literally my only option if I was going to spend Christmas with my family this year, because my dog sitter's father is in the hospital and they think he will die soon.
Tiny Dog doesn't like going to the vet. When she got out the car today and realized where we were, she dug her heels in. She behaved, but she was very clingy, and wouldn't stop looking out the office window.
The vet tech who came to fetch her and take her to the kennel was an adorable little butch, though. It makes me feel slightly better, but unfortunately I don't think it will matter to Tiny Dog. I hope she doesn't start thinking I'm not coming back. I hope she's not sad and confused. Four days is a long time for a doggie alone in a strange place with strange people and strange animals.
Diva Kitty is fine by herself at home, which she will enjoy greatly for the first day or two. Then she'll get a little nervous, and punish me when I get home. But she will be fine, and at least she's in her own home.

My dog and I had quite a scare this morning. I went to let him out first thing early this morning. It was about -11 out. I turned around to put food in his bowl and put some out for the cats. I turned back around to check him, like, a minute later, and he had collapsed in the snow. He couldn't walk because he was too cold. He was trying to get up and his legs were falling out from under him and he flopped back into the snow. I raced out in my pajamas and slippers and half carried him back in. (100 lb lab/pit mix) He was so scared and so was I... :(

They are trying to be nice and think you need help hunting. Pets haven't grasped the concept of grocery stores yet.
Currently the lil buggers are trying to sneak climbs onto the coffee table.

Tiny Dog made a mess in the driveway today. It is snowing here, and to be honest, she can't tell where the driveway ends and the yard begins. Also, the wind chill is something like -2, and she just wanted to be done pooping and get back in the house.
So I get to go out in -2 wind chill and clean poop off the driveway. Better to do it now than wait until the snow melts and I can't see where it is.
Hope, as you know, is my little red, blind senior dachshund I adopted a year & a half ago.
She is SO sweet. ALL she wants is to be cuddled right next to me..any place I may be.
She rode in a BIG truck for 14 hours then slept in the seat beside me overnight. She is just so happy.....wags her tail all the time..and gives me kisses so freely. We are one another's bestie.
I always smile to think where she came from and where she is now.

Just a note here for people in a similar situation who aren't used to snow and freezing temps: If you _do_ wait to scoop the poop, it will get frozen and stick to the driveway. :(
My dog Played in the snow....
She was so excited she almost had my daughter falling down the steps on the way out. Then she was running all over the place and had to be chased down. We all had fun with her today. Snacking on snowballs seems to be her thing.

Monte woke me up to let me know he and Survival Cat's dishes were "empty". For them that means there is at least half a meal between them left still sitting in their bowls. No one is going to die around here if they aren't poured more food immediately - ever. But they will sit in front of their bowls looking all tragic and pathetic as if to say - Help, we're being starved. We can't reach the bottom of the dish, our bowls are too deep, we can't get our faces in there - please pour us more food before we die. And people say – Oh look they're so hungry pour them more food. However if no one comes over and I don't pour them more food till what's in their bowls is gone, they'll eat every last crumb. Then Monte will come over paw tap me, lead me to his bowl to show me it's empty and get me to pour them more food. No one is ever going to die of hunger around here. I'm here all day to pour them more food as often as as they need. Plus they nosh on spendy grain free canned cat food and vet recommended officially sanctioned approved occasional cat treats. But you wouldn't know it what for the pleading looks when I am weary and/or witnesses are around. I should change Monte's name to Oliver and name the other one Twist. Just because even though for fortunate them it just isn't so, well that's how they act.

My three clowns ate a big breakfast at 7:00 a.m. and then went outside for about 10 minutes to potty. After that, they came back inside, went back to bed.
They loved being out in the snow to begin with and did not want to come inside yesterday morning when they first discovered it. After realizing frozen paws hurt, they did not want to be outside very long.
Lotion has been my constant companion and friend. I 've never bothered myself with lotion but I sure have been following suggestions of you good people here. It has helped tremendously with dry, cracked, chapped skin. It hurt and burned until I bought the recommended lotion. Thank you from me. (f)
This morning the kitten could not see her friend baby kitty because the bed covers were in her way so she did her meerkat impression. Haha!

Diva Kitty has developed a disturbing behavior. She thinks it is fun to lie on her back, play with electrical cords, and chew them!!! So far, fortunately, I have only seen her do it with one cord, and it is a cord that is plugged into a power strip, which I leave turned off when I'm not around. She ran away when I yelled at her, so hopefully she just did it the one time. She was probably trying to show me how cute she was by rolling around with her belly in the air and playing with the cord. But no, no, NO! I had a kitty once who burned a hole in his tongue that way. We thought for awhile he might need plastic surgery so that he would be able to eat, but he figured out how to make do. I do not want Diva Kitty to have to go through that!
Tiny Dog is just happy because she got to pee in a new place today. We went walkies in a different direction than usual.

One "protested" because he had to share my bedside.
One got sassy and pissy when the new baby tried to play.
The baby turtle hissed at me and stuck her tongue out when I tried to clean her breakfast off the top of her head.
Both kitty boys tried to wrap themselves around my ankles while we were in the yard.
And the baby tried her best to bark like a big dog and she was WIRED all day!

Squirt bottle. I have a chewer. She will gnaw on anything...cords, metal, plastic, furniture, toys, the litter box....the list is endless. I have tiny spray bottles hidden all over the apartment and when she's getting into something, I spray her. The amount of trouble she's gotten into has decreased since I started this. It won't hurt her but it will startle her and, with consistency, she'll figure out that's a no no.
Another option is to find a bitter spray and spray it on the cords in the house so if she does chomp down, it won't taste good.

So Baby has figured out that the carrier means bad things. It took me an hour and a half to catch her this morning. Eventually, I trapped her in one room and called a neighbor to help. If I get on the floor, I may not get up. Certainly not with a cat in hand. So I was uber late to the vet, but the took her anyway. I have to pick her up in a couple of hours. Next time I will grab her first opportunity in the morning and take her to the crate instead of the opposite. Gawd.

I leave the crate open off to the side in a hallway, with a towel and toys inside. Both cats go in and out of it and even sleep in it when they want some privacy from one another. That way, they don't have only negative memories associated with it and it's easier to snatch them up when it's vet time.
In other news, they are running rampant tonight, jacked up from dinner and their usual night wiling. DC is sick and Loki keeps bouncing off of Him as He lies on the sofa so He can't rest. DC called him over, because they both know their names, and Loki walked over even though he had an 'uh oh' look on his face. DC had a stern but quick chat with him and now Loki is giving DC a wider berth.
Gracie thought she was going to be cute and try to bite the extension cord I ran for DC's fan but after a squirt blitz, she is also giving it plenty of room, so that's good.
Both cats are currently resting between pounce sessions but are slightly less 'crack-y' now so all is well.

All the kittens are using their litter boxes now. I put a mom size and kitty sized one in their holding pen thinking mom role modeling the behavior would help them catch on and go in theirs. Nope, Survival Mom refuses to use it. Happily, one of the kittens figured it out all on his own. Then very quickly, the others catching on followed suit. Now they use both boxes and are getting better about reaching it in time. Three have completely trained themselves and never go anywhere but the box. The other two sometimes can't make it to the box in time to pee but like the others they are reliable about making it to the box in time for the other. So no coaching required. Lucky me! :)

Tiny Dog is so smart!!! A commercial came on tv with a dog in it. In the commercial, the dog drank some water out of a water bowl. (It was a commercial for Culligan water.) As soon as the dog on the tv started drinking, Tiny got up off the couch and went in the kitchen to drink some water.
I'm never really sure if Tiny Dog (and Diva Kitty) actually watch tv, or if they're just sitting in front of the tv because it's what I'm doing. But I really think they must catch at least some of it. Maybe it was only the sound of a dog taking a drink that made Tiny thirsty. Or maybe it was just a coincidence. Or maybe she really does love "Love It Or List It" as much as I do, and waits for the commercials to take a break to get water!

Usually as I sit here at the computer he'll come over and standing up on his hind legs put his front paws on my leg to get my attention. Then once he has it he stares all soulful into my eyes in a deep mind meld kind of way , until I get up and see what he wants/leads me to. Look the door is shut please open it. Look people are making scary, unusual noises outside please help me shut the door. Look my bowl is empty please put food in it. I don't have to wonder what he wants because he takes me and shows me. And then I fix it. But now he's searching for his pals and I can't fix it, because well they're gone. It's way past his bedtime and I'm wondering how long this will last.

Somehow, she must have been hiding it from me for awhile, because it's awfully long - like an inch and a half. She doesn't walk funny, and it doesn't look like it hurts her. I Googled it, and apparently this is a thing that can happen if, when they are declawed, the vet doesn't get all of the nail growth tissue. Poor thing! A pack of coyotes were in our back woods this morning about 7:45. Jeffrey is the only one who heard them. I noticed his suspicious staring .... and a running to the back woods urge developing so I went and stood beside him. When he let go of one of his mature, deep barks, the coyotes took off running. That is when they became visible in the edge of the woods. I grabbed Jeffrey's collar because he started a lunge in that direction. Note Jeffrey became a year old this past Valentine's Day. He still has his puppy bark but gained an adult bark too.
Later, around 10:30, I texted the four neighbors around me, told them about the coyotes. The four of us always alert each other about events like these - provide a "heads up." The coyotes have never come in this close to the house before this incident. I was proud of Jeffrey's attentiveness to this. He is different than my bullies. I am wondering if it is the "hound dog" portion in him.

I got him when he was around 10-12 weeks old and was able to handle him a lot so he's used to me rubbing him on his feet, chest, everywhere. We were able to clip his nails this way but I can't do it by myself so I'll be taking them both to get their nails clipped before too long.
With Gracie, she has her moods and a lot of the time, she wants to be touched and petted like Loki but her instincts are to get out of the way of people, so she'll come close to me and then slide away when I hunker down. We've found a rhythm that seems to work for both of us. She will come near me and then switch around so her tushy is towards me. That way I can pet her back and tail, which she loves having her tail played with, and not feel as if she has to dash. She gets her space and her lovin' too.
She does get into cuddling moods and will lay on my lap but they are far less frequent than Loki. If he had his way, we'd snuggle and cuddle a couple hours every day. Gracie's more of a snuggle and cuddle every other day kind of girl. I've never had a cat that has such a strong feral streak, so it was hard to not take it personally at first but now that we've gotten to know one another, I get her. She doesn't get me all the time but I get her. Even when they are running like wildfire through the house, I get it and feels really nice to know that she trusts me more than any other human in this world. That makes me feel great.

I have this super long shoestring like thing. So I am tossing it at her, and she is grabbing it, but only when it lands within paw reach. If it accidentally lands too far away, requiring her to get up to grab it, she shows no interest. I landed it within paw reach once and she didn't grab it, so I started hauling it back in when GRAB. It was like she said, stoopid human, it is mine. I just didn't see the point in bothering until you made me.
This is play with a lazy cat.

Apparently, Gracie heard what I said about her and said "hrmph". She crawled into my lap last night and was very cuddly and snuggly, rubbing her head on me and everything. She's so sweet when she wants to be.
I've had a bit of snuggling with both of them today. It took her a while to come out from under the bed after I put the vacuum away, though.

It's almost time for me to go house sit and take care of the pets at my BFF's house. Simon is an old pup (jack russell) and Toffee is half blind (blue healer shepherd lab mix) and Petunia is my favorite caT in the world.
Last month the dogs got sprayed by a skunk nesting under their back porch, which created all kinds of chaos and trouble (to the tune of thousands of dollars in house damages). :|
My caT is a saint tho. She never causes that kind of trouble.
I love reading about everyone's pet stories, thanks for sharing about your pets at home!

Requesting suggestions.
I want to add a dog to my family within the next 5 years. The breed must be gentle but fierce when needed. It must be good with kids and cats, useful around the ranch, and not afraid to take on predators like coyotes and wild cats.
I like bird dogs like pointers and setters but I am not sure that they are the best choice. The Newfoundland seems like a good fit but I am not sure if it can handle the Texas heat. I also considered the Great Pyrenees but since I don't plan on adding live stock that may be more dog than I need.
Any suggestions?

Pit mixes or American Staffordshire Terrier. They get a bad rap but are super loyal, gentle and protective, especially when raised from a pup.

You might want to go with that Great Pyreness.
"The most common LGDs in Texas are Great Pyre- nees, Anatolian Shepherds, Maremma, or Akbash. These or similar guardian dog breeds are highly suggested. Breeds that do not have strong protective instincts are less likely to be effective. Breeds whose instinct is to hunt or herd have behaviors that are counterproductive to guarding small ruminants and rarely become effective LGDs. Survey data indicates that the Great Pyrenees is the most common guardian dog, primarily because it is a good guardian breed and is the least aggressive towards people and livestock."

I know you are probably looking for personal experience, since you posted here, but I was curious enough to google the question. I like the look of the Anatolian Shepherd, personally.
Why are you thinking that a Newfoundland would be a good choice?

Hi Dapper,
The Great Pyreness was my first choice but after my research it seemed that the Newfoundland was a better fit. The Newfoundland is a working dog, good with kids and cats, and would rescue me if I got hurt alone on the ranch. I have not made a decision yet but I am doing research on different dogs. I consider this to be a life time commitment and I want to find the best fit for the canine and me.
I welcome all suggestions because I want to make an informed decision. Like I said above this is a commitment.

It's good to do research because you don't want to get a dog that doesn't fit your life. That wouldn't work for you or them and will just create an unhappy dog and human. I found a neat link that lists a lot things to consider about the Pyrenees, like they are hard to train, bark a LOT, have a thick, heavy coat, require a lot of exercise and drool quite a bit.
Great Pyrenees Dog Breed (http://dogtime.com/dog-breeds/great-pyrenees#/slide/1)
Also, there's this article (http://itsdogornothing.com/will-my-great-pyrenees-bark-all-the-time/).
Something else to consider besides breed traits is the individual animal. I've had a miniature Irish Setter that didn't fit a lot of either of his mixed breed traits (Setter and Chihuahua) and a Shit Zhu that ticked the list nearly all the way down.
Have you considered a shelter dog?
To be thread compliant, my Loki is warming my spot on the sofa and Gracie is holding down the back of the sofa....oh, wait....she just moved. Not sure where but I'm sure they will both be in the kitchen in a minute when I go in to put down their kibble lunch.

I let them out to potty while I was folding towels. After about 15 minutes, I heard one of them bark then the other. I went to the door to see what they were up to and they had crossed the driveway, made their way trotting toward the boat justa barking. I didn't see anything out there for them to be barking at. I hollered at them to come, they both slammed on brakes and turned around and came back.
I can't imagine what a 7 pound 2 toothed Chihuahua and a 17 pound love bug thought they were going after that would be intimidated by their bark. SMH silly lil critters.

First the introductions:
We are a 3 cat household with 2 human caretakers.
Madam Calliope- rules all of the household's activities, from when an extra
scoop of food is to be added to the dish (which she supervises, then
walks away without eating a kibble) to when the litterbox needs care. She is
not that obsessed with water, but the Prince Che is. He demands a trickle of
water be left on at the sink. He wants his fresh cold water.
Now Prince Che can't be blamed. He was literally born on my lap, and
the story goes from there. He is spoiled rotten to the core. If he lacks
anything wanted or needed, I am informed by Calliope. She rules the
roost. We were once staying at Her brother's who has 2 large dog...
one a pit bull, one is a German Shepherd/Dobie mix. She had the two
dogs obeying her (Calliope) within 2 days. She would regularly lay
between them and their foodbowl until she wished to get up (~15-30 mins).
Then, and only then could they stand to approach the bowl. She did
this just to exert dominance. Neither Sue nor I would move her, and
none of my brother's family dared. She has powerful arms and nails,
even a slap stings. If you followed her rules and requests, she's
a wonderful and sweet cat. Wooh be the human who forgets who's in
charge.
Poor Prince Che, he was born for the moniker General Che. But with his
spoiled, dinty self, he ends up being called "Che-Che" or "Sweet-Che". Some
Cuban Revolutionary here. Next time I'll wait to see the personality before
choosing a name. He should be named Little Prince. The boy is so dainty
that his paws have never touched grass. My next cat name was to be
Fidel ... I'll wait.
The last one, I found hiding behind a washer about 3 weeks ago. Really
hasn't adjusted to life here. She had belonged to my neighbor who left
her without making arrangements when being sent back to prison (no
surprise - parole violation). This kitty (? age) was scared and hungry.
She only looks about 7 months, but we're told she's an adult. She has
grown in length as well as width. We originally named her Diva, but she
might not grow into that.
Right now, I call (ah, the poor thing) her Rat Cat. She took down most
of our bathroom dropdown ceiling trying to get out. Actually, we were lucky.
The electrical wires (old house) were burning through, and had already
burnt the plastic. We thought her shenanigans were responsible for
all the damage, and the lights going out there. Rat Cat's antics had most
likely saved us from a house:seesaw::fallenangel::devil: fire according to the slumlord's
repair dude. Our slumlord has not done any upkeep since he bought
the building. Glad the Rat Cat is a good investigator.

Monte the Magnificent has overdosed again. Where he found the plastic grocery bag I do not know. Any time I think I've left no stone unturned, somehow he manages to scrounge up another one. He's been locked indoors to keep him safe and healthy, but I think he's actually better off vaccinated, booted out and left to the wolves. He always comes home happy, healthy, bouncing back in, unharmed from a trip outside. And there are a lot more plastic bags to be had out there than there are in here. Plus when I keep him inside he gains a lot of weight. He's all mister el gordo now. I used to worry if let him outdoors some other animal might beat him up or some car might do him in. Now I'm just worried if I keep locking him up indoors he's going to develop type two diabetes. Well, at least he'd be in good company. Maybe one of those cat wheel things, like they have for hamsters only bigger, for cats. However I have issues about forcing on a cat, exercise things I'd be unwilling to have forced on me. Don't think I'd very much like one my size in the in the living room insinuating, hint hint.

i have friends who have pyrs they are very good dogs but you have to treat them with calmness and lots of patience. Never yell at them. They are guardian dogs and it is their nature to guard a herd. It's in their nature to love to go out at night because that is their internal clock in time "to work". Also hot weather doesn't seem to bother them too much as long as you provide good shade and plenty of fresh water..if you don't get a puppy, realize a rescue usually comes with problems ie, they've been abused, ignored or both..so assume any rescue dog will not be easily won over. Make sure you get as much history as possible and be armed with plenty of patience. It will take a long while for a mistreated pyr to trust you. Treats help. Be available but don't push your presence on him. He/she enjoys their own company but if you respect them and treat them well they will eventually seek out your company.

Hey, Buddy, The Great Pyreness is number one for doing what you want in Texas. Did you miss what I wrote?
"The most common LGDs in Texas are Great Pyre- nees, Anatolian Shepherds, Maremma, or Akbash. These or similar guardian dog breeds are highly suggested. Breeds that do not have strong protective instincts are less likely to be effective. Breeds whose instinct is to hunt or herd have behaviors that are counterproductive to guarding small ruminants and rarely become effective LGDs. Survey data indicates that the Great Pyrenees is the most common guardian dog, primarily because it is a good guardian breed and is the least aggressive towards people and livestock."
Like, the top four for texas is listed right above to kill your coyote (and be gentle with everyone else). Just what you said you wanted.
You might want to start with those. A collie is a herder. You don't want a herder or a hunter. See above.

Interesting article. I still worry about the heat for a Great Pyreness but it is still my favorite breed. I will continue my research. I have a colleague that has had both the Great Pyreness and the Newfoundland growing up in New Jersey. He thought the Texas heat would be hard on the Newfoundland and the Great Pyreness. I will check with the local AKC. Thank you for your support and assistance.

After he ran all over full speed with it, throwing it in the air ... he settled with it between his paws, began slowly pulling the string all the way until it stopped at the knot ... then gently pulled it the opposite direction - same deal. He does this over and over.
Jennifer and Kevin do not become the least bit jealous when he gets a new toy. In fact, I think they like it because they get some peace. LOL!

I found a link to an article for heat tolerant dogs (https://www.outsideonline.com/1856851/10-best-hot-weather-dog-breeds) if you'd like to take a look at it and see if one them would work for you. Border collies are on it, but like Dapper said, they are strong herders. Your cats would not be happy.
I think it's great that you are putting so much effort into researching the proper pet for your needs and wants. Remember after the 101 Dalmatians remake came out? People that had no clue how high energy and attention demanding Dalmatians were got them and then the shelters flooded with them months later.
One thing I'm sure you have already thought about is your work schedule. You will need a dog that's okay with being alone for a long stretch at a time and won't be destructive while you are gone. You will need to devote a lot of time to training and then be consistent so they keep up with it.
For thread compliancy, my fur babies are tearing up the place playing chase and Nascar.

Have you looked into a mixed pitbull. That's a dog who will short charge
away an aggressor then stand over what needs protecting like it's daring
someone to make a move. The pit will have the last move. Had a pit who
was my protector that a stranger wanted to meet. He asked how she was
with babies. Had a 15 mo. walking around while we chatted, kid fell, started
crying. Dad starts to panic until he realizes that she had positioned
herself over the boy on the sidewalk. Anyone other than dad tried to
approach, she's keep 'em away with a deep throated growl. As her owner, I
wouldn't really want to go a round with Hildegaard if guarding a kid. He
offered me 1000 dollars on the spot. No way, I raised her like that.
There are many breeds that would thrive in Texas, and do you really need
an AKC breed. I have found that the most intelligent dogs tend to be
Heinz 57, and saving a life is nothing to sneeze at.
Sorry, I'm cathexis. New to this thread, and avid pet keeper. The dogs
have been pits, coyote mix, wolf/black lab hybrid. We're in too small an apt
for a canine now...wouldn't be fair...fond of big canines, duh.
Hate to butt in, but just had to. Good luck with your search.
If I can do anything to help, like help sort out various breed characteristics,

My two kitties tried a new and expensive food that comes with a sachet of sauce per serving, they licked the sauce off and then went and sat by their cupboard in expectation leaving a full dish of `sauceless` food. Well that was a waste of money was it not.
I woke up and my dog was sitting halfway across the room looking at me. I mumbled something I can’t remember to acknowledge her then fell back asleep. Woke up an hour later and she was sitting there watching me. So I start to get up and her tail starts going and she gets bouncy with excitement. She’s so sweet waiting patiently like that so I gave her lots of attention when I got up.

Having a nap. His front paws are pressed together like he's praying for salvation. Or cat treats. Or maybe for him either way, it's the same dang thing.

My two kitties tried a new and expensive food that comes with a sachet of sauce per serving, they licked the sauce off and then went and sat by their cupboard in expectation leaving a full dish of `sauceless` food. Well that was a waste of money was it not.
I'd mix it all up together so they can't get just the good stuff and leave the rest.
Currently, Gracie is at her favorite perch on top of the cat tree and Loki's in his favorite spot, my seat on the sofa.

When we were getting Blade's home theater set up, I placed 2 remotes and a paper towel on the couch, went to change into my fuzzy pjs, walked back into the livingroom and found my old dog had ate half of my paper towel.
He looked very proud of himself and Blade started laughing his ass off (Blade had been oblivious to the shenanigans as they were sitting on the couch together).
Guess he'll need some doggy X-lax if everything doesn't come out tomorrow.

I have been busy all day deep cleaning, Spring cleaning my kitchen to within an inch of its life. Naturally I was supervised closely by furry friends. My little girl kitty loves to sit on the window ledge bird watching but has to weave about the bits and bobs on there. So I decided to make her a special place in the corner, I put her a small pad for comfort and was sure to leave her space to access it with ease. I was rewarded with complete indifference and she now refuses to go anywhere near the window.

I just shooed Gracie away from the window. She was nibbling on the blinds. She has a major oral fetish and will chew on anything from wires to metal to plastic to their litter boxes plus toys and bags and paper. Let's not forget the remote, wheels on carts, the ball on the track in the round toy and my phone. About the only thing I haven't seen her chew on is the sofa.

You know there are always lots of chew treats for dogs but I dont think I have ever seen that type of thing for cats, I wonder if there was such a treat if it would keep her happy. One of mine has a thing for paper but only when you are writing on it, she`ll do her best to shred it, we`ve lost homework that way!

I doubt it. They continuously cycle through their toys and things that aren't toys that they make into toys like my hair stopper in the shower, Q tips and empty toilet paper rolls so something is constantly being ignored at one point or another.
I did some research and thought she was likely more bored than sick so I started moving their main toys and scratching posts around from time to time and it seemed to help a bit but not entirely.
She also has double claws (not polydactyl...she actually has double claws on some sections of her pads) so maybe that plays into it. She seems to have her paws in her mouth more than Loki does but I'm not sure if it's the oral thing or the oral thing is stemming from the claw thing.....chicken and the egg if you will.
Next time they get a check up, I have a list of things to go over with the vet regarding each of them. Loki has an unhealthy connection to food. I know what it stems from but haven't figured out how to help him combat it. Gracie feeds normally and I thought maybe that over time, she would help him. No such luck. The good news is that his food neurosis hasn't transferred to her.
My children are complicated.

I`ve come the the conclusion that all children are complicated, furry or otherwise, I can rarely stay one step ahead of any of mine !
My two dont cycle with their toys, its more one red hot favourite and after a few days its never looked at again. They too enjoy a Q tip, rolled up bit of paper makes them happy and Ms Cupcake loves a mouse with feathers on....for a limited time anyhow.
The double claws may well play a part, definitely see what the vet has to say it will be interesting to find out. Are your two indoor kitties Gemme ?
My big ginger boy is a gentleman with food and always steps back if Cupcake decides she wants what he has {even though they have exactly the same} despite him being twice the size of her I still make sure he gets his fair share as I think he would happily starve whilst gazing adoringly at her !

Yes. I live where I work and have box trucks and semi trucks rolling through here daily not to mention the field next door with coyotes and mean critters. AND...the shelters around here don't like to adopt out cats to outside homes.
Oh, no. Loki is no gentleman when it comes to food. He's a bully AND he's twice the size of Gracie. Initially, she took it every time and just walked away. Now, if she's really, really hungry, she's going to finish her food, dammit. lol I'm proud of her that she stands up to him when it matters to her. She also will chase the Hell out of him, to the point that he's crying for me. Not sure if it's because she's whooping his butt or that she's making him exercise so much, though.
They get a mix of wet and dry and when I put the wet food down, I have to start with Loki so he's distracted and Gracie can get a start on her food. He inhales it, so he's done in 1-2 minutes. Seriously. I timed it. She eats like a fucking lady....dainty but messy. I sometimes stick around to verbally chastise Loki when he starts to push in on her personal space as she continues to eat or I'll go sit on the sofa and pat my lap when he starts wandering around so I can get my hands on him for pets while she finishes.
Then I go into the kitchen and check the bowls. 9 times out of 10, Loki's is clean as a whistle. I'll call Gracie over if she has anything left and she'll eat a few more bites and then she's done. Loki gets the leftovers but only when I put the dish on his side of the kitchen. There are rules, but he still pushes the line because he's got a major fixation with food. Dry food too but not nearly as bad as with wet.
He was fine when I got him. He even left food in the bowl. One for his homies, we would say. But then we went to the Reunion and had someone come in and feed him and give him some love. Two things happened. One, she overfed him and there was one day that she didn't show. We knew about it ahead of time and she left him extra food the day before and came in early after but even the local boarders would not have come in on Sunday so chose to have him stay in the house he was most comfortable in. That messed him up. It screwed up his expectations for food and now I think he has a fear of no food.
This was before I got Gracie. I feel that if they were both here, she would have kept him entertained and basically told him to get over himself.
I don't know how to fix this. I free feed dry food and I know he eats more than he should out of both of their bowls but if I take it up when I'm not there, will it make his food anxiety worse? I feel that he would focus on food even more. As it is, any time I walk in the kitchen, he clearly thinks it's food time, even if he's just eaten.
My baby boy has problems. He's so big now, I call him Bubba just as much as I call him Loki.

Gemme, I think that it would be actually better to not free feed. I think that not free feeding will decrease his anxiety. He will learn that he gets food every day, once (or twice, whatever you do), per day. He won't feel the need to "plan" for no food by eating extra free food because there will be no free food to "plan with". He will start to realize that when mom wakes up in the morning he gets fed, and when mom gets home (or at a certain time, whatever works with your schedule), he gets fed. If you are home at dinner time set an alarm for the same time every day. His body clock/sunlight clock, will start telling him when food is upcoming.
He will see over time that there is no need to worry. His anxiety will go away.

Orrrrr...he will grow more anxious because there's no filler food in between the good, wet stuff and he will focus more on the missing food. If he hasn't learned that he will be fed regularly by having food at his disposal 24/7, I'm not sure making food disappear might help that.
This is why I'm torn. I don't want to make his neurosis worse so I feel like I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. His focus on food is so intense that he will follow me into the kitchen with the expectation of being fed, even when I just fed them moments before.
To be a little more thread compliant, Gracie is lounging on the padded bar top stool....she really loves being up higher and it's so comfy, I can't blame her....and Loki is in the middle of the sofa again.

Oh, dont like the sound of coyotes versus Kitties at all. Very different where I am, every other home seems to have a cat and its pretty quiet so you cant walk down a road without being greeted by someones cat. I have fairly new neighbours with 4 cats but they moved from a built up area and she has kept her cats as `indoors cats` still, my big boy goes calling for them to play out and sits on the lawn in hope !
Poor Loki, it does sound like the missed day is etched on his memory. Lets hope as time goes by he will get it in his head that meals will be regular as the norm. My two were both rescues at 6 months and had been left in a house with no food for days on end the shelter told me. My boy used to beg a lot and swiped a paw at food being waved about by the children more than once but eventually that stopped.
I wonder if you could leave him with a timed feeder for his dry food when you are not there, regulate and portion control it for him.

I don't know. If I knew that I was getting some Grandma Utz's potato chips every time the sun hit the window in a certain spot I wouldn't ruminate over the potato chips worrying I wasn't going to get any. I got some yesterday when the sun hit that certain spot on the couch, in fact, that happens every day, so I know my potato chips are coming.
However, I wouldn't think about or notice that sun spot if the potato chips (maybe more bland ones, but still, I like all potato chips) were avaiable in the kitchen. And how do I know if that is going to keep being refilled. The refilling is random.

And you are overthinking things and applying human logic to an animal. Loki has an emotional eating issue, which is not really logical. It's instinct and fear. It's been 6 months since it happened and he's almost a year old so I don't think he's going to outgrow it (per what Daisy said).
Little Miss Gracie has been crawling in and out of my lap all night, so it's been a good time. I love her purr. I love both their purrs but hers and her little meow is so darn sweet, I can't stand it. Loki got jealous one time and crawled in my lap after her but after a few minutes, he scratched me good with his nail and I plopped him on the ground next to me. They have to control those things. Aww, don't take offense. I would love to address the issue directly instead of going 'round and 'round with the behaviors. It's going to be a bit before I can get them both to the vet's so I was basically venting because they look at me like this  when I talk to them both about it.
I tried to change the routine a bit with leaving less food out in between meals and Loki flipped out. Well, he flipped. The water bowl. While full. Three times. Now his bowl does not have any water in it because I'm tired of cleaning it up. They both drink out of Gracie's bowl anyway. He cannot have an empty food bowl without going bonkers and throwing a fit. I know he's a teenager now but I'm not dealing with rational thinkers and I'm not spending the time to clean up every time he flips the bowl over and it's not a light bowl either. He's being a shit.
I had a talk with him this morning but I don't know how much of what I said got through to him. It's nap time now so they are cuddled up together in my spot on the sofa. I took a pic. I had to! They are soo freakin' adorable when they want to be.

Diva Kitty did not even try to punish me by ignoring me for awhile as she usually does when I'm gone for too long; she just rubbed her head against my hand and then spread out on her back for tummy rubs. Tiny Dog has been at my side with her head under my hand as much as possible.

Well, I ran the vacuum this morning so it took a while before I saw Gracie. She hates the thing. Loki gets scared initially but his desire to be loved on is greater than his fear of the great sucking noisemaker.
I now have proof that Gracie knows her name. It wasn't long after the vacuum ran and Loki and I were in the bathroom and she loves to play in there too so I called her and she came running. She got some love from me, ignored Loki and the tub, and ran back out to her hiding spot. She knows her name and she loves me almost as much as she fears the vacuum.
That's a lot.

And now she plays. She never played before. She is three years older (and i found her original paperwork that says she was between 7 and 9 years old when I got her) and NOW she plays like a kitten...?? She's my little enigma slash sunshine.

I really hope so Dapper, they didnt say it wouldnt clear up. His one eye has always has a few problems along the way, he had an ulcer on it once. Since drops aren't a solution for tear duct blockage, I'd assume that the drops are to clear up an infection in Daisy's baby's eye that can be causing the blockage, and that should definitely help with the blockage. If that's the case and all works well, then the blockage should clear up. If not, her vet may try other things but if it's really bad, this can eventually lead to surgery, so it's good that Daisy got to the vet as soon as she noticed the issue.
<--not Daisy but has had experience with this a while ago
Today, my babies have been relatively sweet and very curious when I brought in some food for them. Yesterday, Gracie spent a little over 3 hours in my lap. I didn't want to disturb her so I just laid there and watched TV and then Loki came up and stretched out next to us on the sofa and it was just really sweet with the both of them. The phone rang and I just let it go because she doesn't get this affectionate that often and I want to encourage it as much as possible.

I composed my response to Dapper before seeing your post. Did they say what the underlying infection was? If his cheek is puffy, the fluids from the eye may be rerouting under the skin or that could be where the infection is based.

They didnt Gemme no, there were two vets, I think one may have been training, I mention this as they were talking to each other as well as me and I sort of felt I didnt get their full attention. A dye was put in each eye and it only came out of one nostril, hence the tear duct issue diagnosis. I was thinking maybe conjunctivitis but this wasnt touched upon. It wasnt my usual vet, as we live in a small village my vet is only open a few days a week so I took an appointment at another, still part of the same chain so they had his notes to look over. The puffiness has gone down but its still very glassy looking and running fluid, I will persevere with the bathing and drops and give it another day, if no improvement he`ll go back again, I dont want him getting worse over the weekend.

Oh, I would have blown a gasket but I've been through Hell with vets. I had a cat, Oliver, who had a seizure in the office. I didn't want him treated with Phenobarbital because of the side effects and they did it anyway. Oliver wandered around the house like he was drunk for TWO DAYS and fell off the bed. He was 8 years old and could have seriously hurt himself or broke something. That was just from one injection. I will NEVER go to that company (Banfield) again.
I would go back to your usual vet. The easy way to see if it's conjunctivitis is if the redness is all around the eye while a tear duct blockage can create a rust colored spot underneath the eye if it's left long enough. The drops aren't for the blockage. That wouldn't make sense. So it has to be for an infection and you said it seems like the puffiness is diminishing some, so that's good! Infections take a while to clear up.
I was initially surprised that they didn't try to flush the blockage out, but with the infection, you have to resolve that before you can touch the blockage.
It actually sounds like your boy is on the road to recovery. I would still make sure to book your usual vet if you are still concerned but, from what you're saying, it sounds like you're on the upswing. Good luck!

IDK what is wrong but I think a trip to the vet is in order, she has pooped in 3 rooms today and was outside for quite awhile. And she has been eating toilet paper. Like off the roll. So all doors need to be shut.

Baby Briar does not have an off switch!!! I told my bestie that I need to hook her up to a treadmill and generator to generate electricity.
She also bounces and kicks like a jackrabbit. She'd do that all day if you'd let her.
Today in the warm sunshine, she'd stretch out with her belly in the grass and long skinny legs behind her, then ooch and scooch herself all over the grass, trying to pick on the cats. You could tell by the look on her face she was having so much fun.
My WooBear was very loving today...except when he decided he doesn't have to listen to ANYTHING I ask him to do, including stay out of Skippy's "house".
Skippy tried to protect his Daddy from the puppy by getting all barky and growly...but with just having 2 teeth left, all he can do is make us laugh. Poor ferocious beast with his curly tail.

There`s a certain irony in pooping where she shouldn't and eating toilet paper isnt there but its no fun for the clean up team. Hope it all resolves soon.

Yep, 6 oclock tonight he is going back to the regular vet. One hour its looks better then the next hour its worse. His second eyelid is showing and red and puffy I noticed when I gave him the drops. Its still looking very weepy despite bathing. We will see what they say this evening.
Poor Oliver, that was one vicious shot.

Today is a beautifully sunny day here so both my two kitties are out in the garden enjoying the warmth of the sun. If this weather lasts I will hardly see my girl kitty indoors because she is a sun worshipper, boy kitty is usually happier indoors but I feel hes hoping to avoid his meds by being AWOL dozing under the bench. And on that note I will give an update...
After 3 days having Isathal drops and not much improvement I took him back to my regular branch of the vet chain I use. They wanted to know who had prescribed the drops at just the same time as the trainee from the other branch entered the consultation room {she obviously moves from branch to branch} I got brave and gently said I didnt feel I had the other vets full attention which ensured I got full attention this visit, trainee took the hint, stood back and kept quiet. It was agreed it was a blocked tear duct as well as conjunctivitis. I asked about flushing the duct as Gemme mentioned and it is a possibility but more investigation would be needed before that would happen {lets string it out to get more money out of you the cynic in me thought} if the new drops dont work. He now has Maxitrol drops which I am assured will almost certainly do the trick. She didnt charge me for the consultation fee just the new meds which I was grateful for. So will we see how hes doing after the weekend. If you read to the end then thanks for your interest !!

Is this a dog? Has she been drinking more water recently, because it is getting warmer out? If it keeps happening, maybe she has a UTI?

Mr. Potato :dog: tears out the stuffing and squeaker immediately upon receiving a stuffed toy. His "toy box" is just a bunch of animal skins that he happily chews on periodically, some half destoyed ropes, and some hard bones. It's quite sad.
I have all the "good stuff" in a cabinet that I dole out slowly. He tears up every single toy, including balls, rope toys, etc., very quickly. "Indestructible" is meaningless to him. But, it is what he likes to do, so that's ok.
ETA: I try to get to the squeaker before he chews it completely apart. I remove the tube from the bulb, so I can put the tube to my lips and blow a squeak. I have a bunch of them strategically placed around the house...in drawers and such. Periodically, I pull one out and blow on it when he isn't looking. I toss it back into the drawer and look like I am minding my own business while he is freaking the hell out wondering where it came from. I love fucking with the guy. hahaha

Tiny Dog refused to eat dinner because she KNEW we brought home pork ribs. No matter how much I told her she wasn't getting any, she remained completely uninterested in her kibble and patiently waited, looking at me like, "Now? Now? Can I have some now? Maybe now?"
I must have a giant S (for sucker) on my forehead, because I did eventually give her some tidbits.
Diva Kitty is peeved at me because I put a basket of laundry on the bed where she usually sleeps. She has decided to sleep downstairs on a kitchen chair instead.

Currently, Gracie is napping in her actual kitty bed and Loki is on the sofa, taking a bath. I can't tell you the number of times that I have gone to sit down and there's a wet spot because he can't control his tongue. Or maybe he's too lazy to bring that appendage closer to his face. Whichever it is, I no likely.
This morning, I had to shoo them out of the bathroom because they were playing together in the curtain and someone...probably Gracie...snagged it so I had to pull and tug and work that snag out.

We have been slowly introducing the new chicks to the pups. The cat has no interest in them. Maybe she's pretending?
Jacques absolutely ADORES them. He sits on the bed and watches their every movement. He gives them kisses when I take them out. He's just so sweet.
Bitsy is visiting from my mom's house and I'm pretty sure she wants to eat them. I held her over their cage (hate that word) and she just shivers and shakes and if I pick one up she licks her lips a LOT lol No tweets for you!
Yoda is ambivalent. He's just my zen doggie dog.
The chickies are SO adorable! I feel like a mom again. Every little noise I wake up (yes, they're in our bedroom) I keep counting them (we have six!) and making sure they're all eating and drinking. I'm also questioning my ability to eat chicken after this. I always based eating chicken on the premise that they are not that intelligent. My chickies leave me feeling my theory is incorrect. I couldn't imagine eating them :(

Diva Kitty has been foiled! She used to like to jump on top of the ironing board, so I always had to keep it in a room with a shut door or put it away. If I didn't, she would jump on it, it would wobble, and she would leap away making it crash over.
Well, now I have the granddaddy of all ironing boards, the Rowenta compact pro, and this thing is sturdy! So though miss Diva Kitty may find her way on top of it - which I'm sure she will - it will not wobble. And if she leaps away, I'm fairly certain it will not topple over.

We have 3 cats, one who is very large (prob. part Maine Coon Cat), one who is a typical large Tuxedo cat, and we found this
abandoned tiny (looks like 8 mos old) grey tiger.
The tuxedo (Che) and the tiny tiger (Diva) are buddies, and were racing around Thursday morning. The large cat (Calliope) began to harass them, running behind them ambushing then hissing and growling.
Both of them ducked underneath the sofa to the amazement of my Partner. She thought Che had gained too much (muscle) weight since Diva joined our household, but Che shimmied under just fine. Diva, who had never been under the sofa followed like a pro leaving the aggressive Calliope behind peering under to see how she could maybe find a way to follow.
Che and Diva were safe and sound in their sofa haven.

He flopped himself on the front desk at the vets, (the desk is chest high for me) rolled over with his belly up, legs all relaxed, head flopped over sideways to watch the lady sitting behind the desk and made himself at home and very comfortable while it took a long time to do his boarding papers. He was so relaxed that when an aggressive dog came in and made a huge disturbance, it didn't phase him. He just sneezed then flopped his head over again like he was totally in love with the clerk.
The 5 pound puppy on the other hand, tried to take on the aggressive dog from inside her crate. She sounded like a Tasmanian Devil !

Last night, Diva Kitty loudly let me know her displeasure on auto-repeat when she discovered her bed had been displaced when I went outside earlier on the balcony. She did not let up until I got up and fixed it.

That's kind of how pups and kittens are, JDeere. lol It's one of the reasons we got Gracie, so Loki would have a companion and playmate and someone else to burn off some of his energy.
Currently, Gracie is on the stool, looking out the window. She's so freaking adorable with her tiny white paws hanging over the back and her dark ears perked up with her white whiskers twitching as she tries to smell the things she sees outside. I can see the gears burning in her head. She's smart; if I'm not careful, she'll find a way outside.

Tiny Dog and Diva Kitty were both very jealous over me tonight! I've been away for the weekend, and they were both really happy to see me when I got home. Tiny Dog met me at the door. Diva Kitty did not deign to come downstairs, but she met me at the top of her stairs (heh - just noticed I said "her" stairs). She rolled over on her back and showed me her belly for some serious belly rubs. I had already loved on Tiny Dog at the door, but she stood by and snorted disdainfully as I loved on the kitty anyway.
Tiny Dog was a little flummoxed by our new neighbors. When I took Tiny outside, the neighbors were having people over. We could hear them inside their house clapping their hands in time, and people ululating and chanting. Tiny Dog huffed a couple of times and stared at the fence for a few minutes before she decided she could ignore them. So, they passed the first dog test - they're probably good people. We'll see how she acts if they come over.

 I hope it is just a super light tap. :worried:
She is probably having a hard time with all of the attention going to the puppy. Plus it is a new dog in HER home. It is normal for her to have territorial issues. You all need to accept she is going to act out some. I am not keen on hitting dogs. :( I actually grabbed a guys arm once when he was smacking his small dog that broke away from him to come see my dog. Fortunately, I was "female" back then, or he probably would have punched me. I didn't even think about it, I just reacted. I just grabbed his arm and yelled at him.
