Frühling

-Hermann Hesse

In dämmrigen Grüften
träumte ich lang
von dein Bäumen und blauen Lüften,
von deinem Duft und Vogelsang.

Nun liegst du erschlossen
in Gleiss und Zier
von Licht übergossen
wie ein Wunder vor mir.

Du kennst mich wieder,
du lockst mich zart,
es zittert durch all meine Glieder
deine selige Gegenwart!

(translation)

Spring

In dusky graveyards
I dreamed long
of your trees and blue skies,
of your scent and your birdsong.

Now you lie uncovered
glittering and ornamented
bathed in light
like a jewel before me.

You recognize me,
you entice me gently,
A shudder runs through my body
your blissful presence.

” A new journey to be started.
A new promise to be fulfilled.
A new page to be written.
Go forth unto this waiting world with pen in hand, all you young scribes,
the open book awaits.
Be creative.
Be adventurous.
Be original.
And above all else, be young.
For youth is your greatest weapon, your greatest tool.
Use it wisely.”

Life is a building. It rises slowly, day by day throughout the years.
Every new lesson we learn lays a block on the edifice, which is rising
silently within us. Every experience, every touch of another life on ours,
every influence that impresses us, every book we read,
every conversation we hear, every act of our commonest days,
adds something to the invisible building.

James R. Miller

“We take a risk when we open our hearts because the truth is, if we open our hearts, we will get hurt. You can’t open your heart and not have some hurt because you’re in a human experience. Even if it’s the love of your life and you have many wonderful, deepening, growing, powerful years together, it’s a human experience and that person will pass over. Love takes courage. :glasses: There are hundreds of hidden assumptions, things we take for granted that may or may not be true. In the vast majority of these cases, historically, these things aren’t true. If history is any guide, much about what we take for granted about the world simply isn’t true. But we’re locked into these precepts without even knowing it oftentimes, that’s a paradigm.

:sunglass: Have you ever thought about what thoughts are made of?

:readfineprint: Modern materialism strips people of the need to be responsible and often enough so does religion.

:sunglass: Why do we keep creating the same reality?
Is it possible that we’re so conditioned to our daily lives, so conditioned to the way we create our lives, that we buy the idea that we have no control at all We’ve been conditioned to believe that the external world is more real than the internal world. Quantum physics says the opposite. It says what happens within us will create what is happening outside of us.

:glasses: All of us have a habit of thinking that everything around us is already a thing, existing without my input, without my choice. You have to banish that kind of thinking. Instead, recognise that the material world around us (chairs, tables, rooms, carpet – are nothing but possible movements of consciousness. I'm choosing moment to moment out of those movements to bring my actual experience into manifestation. Our tendency is to believe that the world is already out there, independent of our experience.

:sunglass: The deepest level of truth uncovered by science and by philosophy is the fundamental truth of unity. At that deepest sub-nuclear level of our reality, you and I are literally one.

"After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul, And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and company, doesn't mean security, And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises, And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open, with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child, And you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow is too uncertain for plans. After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much. So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure,that you really are strong, and you really do have worth, and you learn and learn, with every goodbye you learn." ~Veronica Shoffstall~

THIS moment yearning and thoughtful, sitting alone,
It seems to me there are other men in other lands, yearning and thoughtful;
It seems to me I can look over and behold them, in Germany, Italy, France, Spain—or far, far away, in China, or in Russia or India—talking other dialects;
And it seems to me if I could know those men, I should become attached to them, as I do to men in my own lands;
O I know we should be brethren and lovers,
I know I should be happy with them.

The most notable fact our culture imprints on women is the sense of our limits. The most important thing one woman can do for another is to illuminate and expand her sense of actual possibilities.

The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls.

But I forgot that your hands fed the roots,
watering the tangled roses,
till your fingertips bloomed
full, in a natural peace.

Like pets, your hoe and your sprinkling can
follow you around, biting and licking the earth.
That work is how you let this richness loose,
the carnations fiery freshness.

I wish the love and dignity of bees for your hands,
mixing and spreading their transparent brood
in the earth: They cultivate even my heart,

So that I am like a scorched rock
that suddenly sings when you are near, because it drinks
the water you carry from the forest, in your voice.

Let No Charitable Hope - Elinor Wylie

Now let no charitable hope
Confuse my mind with images
Of eagle and of antelope
I am in nature none of these.
I was, being human, born alone;
I am, being woman, hard beset;
I live by squeezing from a stone
The little nourishment I get.
In masks outrageous and austere
The years go by in single file;
But none has merited my fear,
And none has quite escaped my smile.

Joy Cometh in the Morning

by D. A. Boskovich
© 1998

The clouds may endure for a whileBringing forth their dismal rain;But then the rainbow appears--The beauty comes after the pain.The darkness may come in the eveningWith all the terrors of the night,But then cometh the morning,Bringing with it the light.Weeping may endure for the night,And sorrow may continue for long,But joy cometh in the morningAfer the sting is gone.Joy alone can come from sufferingAnd courage is born of fear,Though your path be strewn with evils,Remember--the light is near.(f)

This day has been magical. I have been with three friends, one at a time, and I have learned that friends can transform you. The first held me up so I could see. My second friend made me gentle and earnest. The third friend turned me into a clown, a gesturer, a creator of quips. My friends don't know what they have done today. It's nothing to them, they do it so often. I expect I must also cause a change in them. And so we--each a separate we--exist only in each other's presence.

Actually, it’s quite powerful. And it’s brave for you to have love on your chest, because some people will look at you and say, oh, love, you know, it’s just a sentimental notion.

It’s not practical. It’s not realistic.

For all those people who fight war after war after war and spend money, dollar after dollar after dollar, fighting these wars that never get us peace, I’m telling you, love is way more practical, way more realistic, way more economically sensible than any of these other principles that we bring to bear.

Love is the way we should do business."

“Love is the ultimate outlaw. It just won't adhere to any rules. The most any of us can do is to sign on as its accomplice. Instead of vowing to honor and obey, maybe we should swear to aid and abet. That would mean that security is out of the question. The words "make" and "stay" become inappropriate. My love for you has no strings attached. I love you for free.”

my words couldn't postpone her exit.grief hits you right between the ribs.don't you hate when people ask if she knew you were there?the point is you knew.When her last breath waltzed from that space,my heart opened like a parachute.she didn't die...she simply found a silence she could call her own.

Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

A smile fell in the grass.
Irretrievable!

And how will your night dances
Lose themselves. In mathematics?

Such pure leaps and spirals ----
Surely they travel

The world forever, I shall not entirely
Sit emptied of beauties, the gift

Of your small breath, the drenched grass
Smell of your sleeps, lilies, lilies.

Their flesh bears no relation.
Cold folds of ego, the calla,

And the tiger, embellishing itself ----
Spots, and a spread of hot petals.

The comets
Have such a space to cross,

Such coldness, forgetfulness.
So your gestures flake off ----

Warm and human, then their pink light
Bleeding and peeling

Through the black amnesias of heaven.
Why am I given

These lamps, these planets
Falling like blessings, like flakes

Six sided, white
On my eyes, my lips, my hair

Touching and melting.
Nowhere.

Stanzas by Mary Shelley
Oh, come to me in dreams, my love!
...I will not ask a dearer bliss;
Come with the starry beams, my love,
...And press mine eyelids with thy kiss.

'Twas thus, as ancient fables tell,
...Love visited a Grecian maid,
Till she disturbed the sacred spell,
...And woke to find her hopes betrayed.

But gentle sleep shall veil my sight,
...And Psyche's lamp shall darkling be,
When, in the visions of the night,
...Thou dost renew thy vows to me.

Then come to me in dreams, my love,
...I will not ask a dearer bliss;
Come with the starry beams, my love,
...And press mine eyelids with thy kiss.
