My heart is built in such a way that it feels love infinitely with patience and does not see with my eyes but with the feelings of the senses and the wind. It does not have understanding of the reasons for which it is or what it feels, it only exists as it is.

"You may not agree with a woman, but to criticize her appearance-as opposed to her ideas and actions --isn't doing anyone any favors, least of all you. Insulting a woman's looks when they have nothing to do with the issue at hand implies a lack of comprehension on your part, an inability to engage in high-level thinking. You may think she's ugly, but everyone else thinks you're an idiot."
"I don't pretend to know what love is for everyone, but I can tell you what it is for me; love is knowing all about someone, and still wanting to be with them more than any other person, love is trusting them enough to tell them everything about yourself, including the things you might be ashamed of, love is feeling comfortable and safe with someone, but still getting weak knees when they walk into a room and smile at you."

I LOVE poetry; I always have. When I did my student teaching MANY years ago, poetry was my favourite section to teach. I had considered a career in Middle Grades Education (with concentrations in English and Science) but allowed my fears of being fired or "blackballed" for being a transman to end this dream. There are several poets that I adore, but my favourite is likely Robert Frost. Ten points if you can also guess the '80's movie where this poem was featured in a tearful ending by one of the dying main characters.
Nothing Gold Can Stay
by Robert Frost
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

trust your heart

this pillow, dear
where our heads lived and were.
silently if, out of not knowable
silently if, out of not knowable
night's utmost nothing,wanders a little guess
(only which is this world)more my life does
not leap than with the mystery your smile
sings or if(spiralling as luminous
they climb oblivion)voices who are dreams,
less into heaven certainly earth swims
than each my deeper death becomes your kiss
losing through you what seemed myself,i find
selves unimaginably mine;beyond
sorrow's own joys and hoping's very fears
yours is the light by which my spirit's born:
yours is the darkness of my soul's return

In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous.--Aristotle
It's true that many good things are happening in the world, but we shouldn't be ignoring the progression of our many silent cancers. Part of being spiritual is being alert not just to love and what it can do to save us, but also to our shadows and what they can do to hurt us. The systematic perpetration of income inequality...climate change...child poverty in America...mass incarceration... the corruption of our food supply...limits on civil rights....the spiritual seeker should be leading, not ignoring, the efforts to course-correct nationally. The principles are the same with national healing as with personal healing: darkness has to come up in order to be released. It must be consciously acknowledged and surrendered, or else it cannot be removed.
Today, there's a kind of negative stasis...too much acceptance of things that should not be accepted...acquiescence to incremental approaches to problems for which a mere incremental approach is an inadequate mode of improvement. These are urgent times, and the relative quietude of the moment is a bit like the quiet before a storm. Sort of like the 90's, I'm afraid...and then came 9/11.
From what I can see as I travel the country, many people are doing the right things....we just need to step it up! Push the pedal to the metal! Do whatever it is we know in our hearts we're supposed to do....and do it NOW!!!

"As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let us down, probably will.
You'll have your heart broken and you'll break others' hearts.
You'll fight with your best friend or maybe even fall in love with them, and you'll cry because time is flying by.
So take too many pictures, laugh too much, forgive freely, and love like you've never been hurt.
Life comes with no guarantees, no time outs, no second chances you just have to live life to the fullest, tell someone what they mean to you and tell someone off, speak out, dance in the pouring rain, hold someone's hand, comfort a friend, fall asleep watching the sun come up, stay up late, be a flirt, and smile until your face hurts.
Don't be afraid to take chances or fall in love and most of all, live in the moment because every second you spend angry or upset is a second of happiness you can never get back."

You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all she's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her only that she is gone, or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back. Or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on. - David Harkins

When we're incomplete, we're always searching for somebody to complete us. When, after a few years or a few months of a relationship, we find that we're still unfulfilled, we blame our partners and take up with somebody more promising. This can go on and on--series polygamy--until we admit that while a partner can add sweet dimensions to our lives, we, each of us, are responsible for our own fulfillment. Nobody else can provide it for us, and to believe otherwise is to delude ourselves dangerously and to program for eventual failure every relationship we enter.

Just when you think you've got it all together, things you have never seen or heard will present themselves in your life. They will push you, test you and challenge you to do more growing, more learning, more of what we have already done. Very often, when this happens, we are tempted to believe that we have done something wrong or that we missed something. Rarely do we understand that you cannot get too much of a good thing, and growing, learning, and living are all good things.

“It is easy to feel that something bad will happen if we don’t maintain our habitual vigilance by thinking, judging, planning.
Yet this is the very habit that keeps us trapped in resisting life.
Only when we realize we can’t hold on to anything can we begin to relax our efforts to control our experience.”

"Wouldn't it be powerful if you fell in love with yourself so deeply that you would do just about anything if you knew it would make you happy? This is precisely how much life loves you and wants you to nurture yourself. The deeper you love yourself, the more the universe will affirm your worth. Then you can enjoy a lifelong love affair that brings you the richest fulfillment from inside out."

"The moment of truth, the sudden emergence of a new insight, is an act of intuition. Such intuitions give the appearance of miraculous flushes, or short-circuits of reasoning. In fact they may be likened to an immersed chain, of which only the beginning and the end are visible above the surface of consciousness. The diver vanishes at one end of the chain and comes up at the other end, guided by invisible links."

Love means to commit oneself without guarantee, to give oneself completely in the hope that our love will produce love in the loved person. Love is an act of faith, and whoever is of little faith is also of little love.

“So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.” ~ Mitch Albom, Tuesdays With Morrie

1) An untroubled mind,no longer seeking to consider What is right and what is wrong. A mind beyond judgements, watches and understands. 2) Love is a mystery. You cant find it, it has to find you. 3) Love knows no answer for it does not question. 4) You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving. 5) Sunshine surrounds the earth as love surrounds our souls.

<3 a quote from a friend today:
"I want my daughter (and every girl) to be faced with tough decisions in her formative years of adolescence. Decisions like should I be a doctor or a lawyer? Should I take calculus as a junior or a senior? Do I want to go to Texas A&M or University of Texas or some Ivy League School? Should I raise awareness for slave trafficking or lack of water in developing nations? There are many, many more questions that all young women should be asking themselves… not will a boy (or girl) like me if I wear a “call me” thong."
