Today he is helping Teddy with the brakes on the Subaru since they are like completely gone :| Chris and Ted are surprisingly good friends! Im so thankful for being alive. I know alot of times people are wrapped up in their lives and whats going on- the good and the bad- that they forget to be truly greatful for what they have. Ive been sick for a long time, and my heart melts for people who are terminaly ill , because i just dont know how they handle it. Im thankful because what i have, is fixable. Cancer, AIDS, etc... those people amaze me. Their faith and will power to want to live. How thankful they are to truly wake up the next day, because they know that tomorrow is not guaranteed, where most take it for granted. Im thankful for today, thr day before, and if god willing, tomorrow too.

Im thankful that I'm learning to be patient and think things thru. I'm quite proud of myself of how I handled some irate customers last night. Normally, I would listen, and then come back with something that sounded smart ass like. Got me in trouble every time, I was then labeled rude. I took it personally and would be upset for a few hours.
Last night, I didn't let it get to me and I stood my ground. I was not the bad guy. Actually, I'm quite proud of myself. Thank you, lesson learned, it does work. Keep practicing it !

I am thankful when online, I do not have hidden agendas. That way, I am not ever hurt or disappointed for being unable to pull/pry a particular response I desired from someone ... no matter how much I tried, tried, tried ....and no matter how kind, kind kind I was for so so so long, long, long ... and then in some kind of sickness, go off on someone who had not a clue of my hidden agenda.
just sayin ... because things finally became (across the board) crystal clear
It is online, for geez sake!

A friend making sure I had my meds, making a special trip to get my hot n sour soup, and 3 boxes of tissues.
Baked apples
a quiet day resting with my pup. No wonder he made such a wonderful therapy dog. He knows when you're not feeling good.
I'm thankful for a sleepy voice on the phone that said, all in a rush, "I had a dream that you didn't know how much I appreciate you and how important you are to me. I woke up feeling scared that it was true and I had to call you before you left for your run. Is that stupid? Please don't think it's stupid."
I'm thankful for the happiness in my heart and the big, dumb grin on my face.
I'm thankful for finding this website and for being welcomed by the people who've offered support and advice (and taught me how to post a picture). Posting here gives me an opportunity to sort out my thoughts in a way I haven't been familiar with in the past and I'm finding it surprisingly effective. I sometimes felt a bit silly having such a school kid crush but as time goes on I feel more and more as if I'm really going somewhere with this woman. It's kind of a relief to be able to sort out the new experience here before doing it with face to face friends. My oldest friends (a husband and wife) have been extremely encouraging and supportive but we're all busy people and don't see one another as often as I'd like. Being able to chat with new friends here has been a real pleasure.
I'm thankful, as a transman, for being welcomed here. There was zero acceptance for transpeople when I transitioned in my 20's. It was harder for transwomen (still is IMHO) but transguys had it rough too. Most of us had to make things up as we went along and hope it wouldn't get us killed, or worse. I can remember getting my first T illegally in Tijuana. Everyone knew at least one guy who died of heart failure because no one could (or would) provide the right info about dosage. 25+ years later it never ceases to amaze me that I'm living in the opposite end of that world. My hat's off to the moderators and admins who make this website, and others like it, possible.

I got some sort of kid carried creeping crud of a cold on Wednesday. It came up on me all at once at work, the whole 9 -fever, cough, body aches, misery.
I am so grateful that I am in a place now that I can take a day off with pay.
I am so grateful that I could afford to go the drug store and shop indulgently for cold related items, real Nyquil, trashy book, soda, hard candy for my throat, orange juice, box of kleenex, day time cold stuff for work. Then this weekend I rented a couple of movies, read my trashy book, binge watched shows on netflix while on cold drugs, slept like 19 hours a day.
I am grateful that I had the ways and means to take care of myself when I was sick, to nuture myself and yes, even baby myself. I am so grateful for where I am in my life right now. I think I am starting to feel a little safe after living on the dire edge for a really long time. Fuckin' phew.

I have many things to be thankful for these days.
I am thankful that I still have my mother with me. I am thankful that I am still pretty healthy despite myself. I am thankful for all of my friends that love and support me. I am thankful for all the second chances I have had.

I'm thankful for my Beau. Last night we had a long heart-to-heart phone call...mostly about his cares and concerns for me and my well-being. He "gets" me...actually listens and can tell what's going on with me even though we're 100 miles apart. I'm not in dire straits or anything remotely close. We were talking about our respective lives and careers, making changes, taking risks and our fears. It's nice to have that loving, unconditional support for each other.

I am thankful to be where I am today. I am strong, courageous and alive, and in love. I am thankful for the love that came along at one hella time. We weren't lookin and Cupid hit us both. I am thankful I didn't get furloughed. So many many things...*
just a few
Celebrations and dates are funny things. We remember things by calendar days, lengths of time. birthdays, marriages, separations, when we met. I had uterine cancer 9 years ago May 15,
A wonderful woman who has taken me by surprise came into my life on Father's Day, 4 months ago. Two days after that I found out I may have recurring uterine cancer from 9 years ago. "Suspicious cells from a pap smear" or as I said my prostate was actin' up.. I went through the PET scans, and blood and other imaging tests and was silent until it was confirmed. When I told her, and said the recommended radiation for 3 months, she said, well, no big thing, we can get through this together. So we will have another 9 or more years, so let's just do it.
I could have had my "targets" tattooed, but I chose not to, so had spots glued on instead. No biggee she said.
She said , so let's get matching tattoo's. MY very first one...the Kanji symbol on my signature line which I have had for a very long time is now on my bicep., she has the other two symbols on her right hip. We Celebrated our tattoo's at Bennihanna's, where the manager blushed and grinning said..Ohhh..you the Boss, ..she Ummm, the Bosses girl ...Yea, sorta ;)
I took a break from treatment in Sept, and we went to Little Rock and had the greatest time with the family full of love and orneriness, and we were loved and cared for by so many. Thank you to...all. :rrose:
5 days a week I had external radiation to my pelvis since the end of August (except for 3 days when we escaped to be with Chosen Famiy. We took off for the Reunion :))
She went with me that week to celebrate as two of the women in our "Dorm" finished breast radiation treatment. They brought donuts and brownies and laughed about life. I gave them daffodil bulbs to plant and watch for in the spring. We were all thankful to be there. A Club we didn't want to join, but are lifetime members.
Yesterday was the second of three weekly internal treatments.
One week to go. One more brachytherapy treatment next Wed.
Celebrate: We are going to Coronado Island Resort to celebrate the beautiful sunset tomorrow night, and go to a party in San Diego.
I Celebrate life every day cuz, damn it can just get away from you like the sand in an hourglass.

I'm thankful for my family, my friends, everyone here on the Planet and the chance to get to know someone who makes my heart flutter - i can see my happy place coming back :)
Am I thankful that my mom's hip replacement surgery went well. The doctor and nurses were impressed by her vitals and how well she is doing. The following day she was asking to put on lipstick and have her air brushed lol The nurse asked if she had diamond earrings she wanted to put on also lol
She was being herself :)
I am soooo thankful that she is a strong woman.
I am thankful that others care so much about her.
A woman, patient next to her in her room, told my mom "GOD must have sent you for me, you are a guardian angel" Mom seems to connect with not only family, friends, neighbours but also strangers. She makes a mark in everyones lives she meets......

I'm thankful for a woman that tolerates my imperfections and does everything she can for me, but does put her foot down if she thinks I should try to do something myself.
I'm thankful for my children, each of them different in so many ways, but all of them so interesting and diverse, maddeningly funny, and very patient with me, they are my blessings and proof that I've had some of the best people in my life.
I'm thankful for my feathered and furry family. They are all asking for love and giving it back tenfold, a simple yet daily reminder that I matter.

Today was a challenge but I am so thankful I was able to beat "the waiting list" to get into the medical facility I did today...and that I held out and resisted giving up hope about getting into this facility......it was truly a life changing day and they treated me with a great deal of respect (which I'm not used to with several of my experiences with NC doctors.)...it felt so good when I left there to feel so positive, lifted up, encouraged, and hopeful. I'm still in a lot of pain, but my spirit feels like a weight lifted. ...When I learned they had an opening, I was incredibly thankful because it wasn't long ago that they weren't going to take new patients until next spring. ....now, just waiting for followup and more referrals. I can do this. My body may be weak but my mind is determined and strong.
And....I am even more thankful to have met a deeply genuine, soft spoken but highly articulate and eloquent individual that (through their supportive acknowledgement of my medical policy career skills, my "Voice" and passion for advocacy work) encouraged me that my work and Voice for my community and other disabled individuals does count and is still needed. I thought I had lost my passion.
After a long day (I'm not usually thankful for this because I hate taking pills) but I'm thankful for pain meds that will help me rest tonight....as my nurse said today..." stay ahead of the pain".

For my health, and for the new journey ahead we will share!!
Having supportive, kind, and compassionate people here to interact with!!!
Being able to be friends with some others because they are a genuine, caring individual...where each is accepted because of their compassion....and sincere friendships.

I'm so thankful for the outpouring of support, love, compassion and concern after my fall yesterday. You all (you know who you are ;-) ) really do brighten my day.
I received so many PM's that my PM box is full so I can't respond until I get on the computer to delete old sent files. Please know I'm not ignoring you. I've just been so exhausted and sore today that it's made me a bit slow.
To answer a few questions until I can respond personally....
The leg isn't broken but it's badly bruised and swollen just below the knee ...both ankles sore from twisting...and hands/arms/shoulders sore from catching my fall. It will take a while to heal but I am so very thankful for many things....including my friends that look out for me and a peaceful place to take my time healing

I'm living temporarily with a male friend while finishing my 2 weeks notice at work...
Not only did he let me stash my stuff in his spare room, ge let me and my dog stay in his other spare room for a few days...
He also watches Jacques while I'm at work...encourages me to eat and gave me an extra heater so I'm warm at night...
Last night he stumbled through telling me he's in no hurry for me to be gone and that it was nice having me here.....sigh
I'm blessed and thankful for good friends in my life...and he and I do make good roomies. We are like a platonic couple but we think to do things for each other. The man has folded my underwear...and I his lol

When I was younger, my friends and I had to save money from our weekly allowances to buy music. It might take us two or three weeks to save up for an album, depending on our spending habits. No one had a collection of all the hits, so we would borrow from each other. I might loan my Martha Reeves album to a friend for the weekend who in turn would let me borrow their album by the Temptations or Al Green. And there were some albums (i.e., Marvin Gaye's What's Goin' On, Stevie Wonder's Songs In the Key of Life, and damn near anything by James Brown or Aretha) that you had to purchase because no one would let you borrow them--these albums were on the no-loan list. We really had a great system for listening to music outside of the radio, but it was nothing compared to being able to access music on the Internet ...
I'm thankful for the Internet and music is one of many reasons why.

Thankful to work at a company that picks a day (today) to give each employee $50.00. They insist that we go out for a couple hours and buy something for ourselves, then come back and have sandwiches while we "show and tell" what we've bought. We're asked not to spend it on anyone else nor for anything else—just ourselves. One year I bought some pink Converse shoes (they were so cute). Another year I used it toward a subscription to Lumosity. One of my buddies bought a wonder bra one year—that turned some heads.
I won't be able to attend today's festivities because I've got work up to my eyeballs, but I'm really grateful to work here. I work for and with people who care about each other, society, the environment ... they care.
This is one of the many reasons I don't mind coming in early, staying late or working on weekends. Fortunately, I don't have to hustle like this most of the year.
Lucky me.

Just last night when I was slipping into a hot bubble bath, I was thinking how much I have been thankful for this year.
The holidays are hard on me to be away from my son...but I have a huge list of blessings, gifts and easy-to-take-for-granted things that make me very proud and thankful.
A peaceful, safe, secure, drama free home that's in a beautiful part of the country, surrounded by nature...
My "prayer garden" where I can find my zen and leave little momentos of loved ones and candles...
My sweet, loving pets...
My son...
My two best friends that understand and accept me more than anyone else ...
My car (named The Beast) that's paid for and has never failed me, and is currently my transport to medical services and my favorite country get-aways....
A filled-to-the-brim pantry and 2 freezers, including bounty from the garden and local farms....lots of homecooked meals...
Electric and plenty of hot water for bubble baths...and my own laundry room so there's no need for trips to the laundrymat.
Chosen family....
(Finally) access to medical care and an AMAZING medical team...
The many positive opportunities I have been given this year...
My little antique shop...
Caring, supportive friends that never turn their back...
An opportunity to learn what I want and need in a relationship and the ability to stand up for myself...knowing I am safe, empowered, confident and encouraged to make the right decisions for a healthy life....
Warm, clean clothes and (NICE) memory foam shoes that help me walk without pain...
Enough farmland to raise chickens for chemical free eggs and a large garden..
The love and acknowledgment that was so generously gifted to me....
Being given an opportunity to do what I want (career wise) and taking time to heal and get answers to medical concerns....
My very fun trip to the Gem Mine and the memories....
And as I told my doctor today...I feel safe here, that makes a difference in caring for myself...
The list goes on...
I've had a challenging year (medically and career wise) but I have certainly " come out on top", learned from my mistakes, made several good, life confirming decisions, been given many gifts that I don't take for granted and have stuck to my Affirmation that I wrote back in February.
I forgot to add...several trips to the beach and mountains for retreats.
And for the first time in over 2 years, I was able to walk long distances on the beach without pain and without help, thanks to my new doctor.

I'm thankful that he didn't have to have a feeding tube
I'm thankful that he has only lost a little bit of hair in the back, and though his neck is red and dry and itchy it's not as bad as I thought it would be.
I'm thankful that he has had only minimal discomfort in his mouth and throat
I'm thankful that he has a high tolerance for pain and has basically been a good patient.
I'm thankful Mom was able to take care of him
I'm thankful that God sent us all an angel in her, she takes a lickin and keeps on tickin

Our lives will change, and our love will only become stronger.
These are the things that I'm thankful for.

Got up early this morning and took my coffee out to the back deck.. I had 3 Doe and 3 Fawn in the back yard. I had a garden there one year and the dear come back this time year after year and eat down at the bottom of my hill. Was nice to think about off and on today. I'll ck for them again in the morning. I had a family of wild turkeys hanging out back there but they have now taken refuge some where else.

I got my financing in order so I can start classes again in January.
I believe I've found my general direction; finally, after 40 years - may I prove myself worthy of this opportunity.
Crisp, gentle breezes, the conversations of birds, squirrels, and trees; the smell of fire. Trees and flowers crashing into the sky in a violent kaleidoscopic explosion of color and pattern. Strange booming cars ambling by as the vibrations reverberate throughout the street - a musician's offering to the Universe.
Cultivating new and old friendships with people of all stripes feels like falling in love with the whole of humanity. A miracle for a bona ride recluse like myself!
I'm grateful for gratitude. It's changed me on a biochemical and fundamental level. And I'm grateful for the awareness of those changes.
Naps. A full belly. A day off. Silent reflection. Some perspective. Creative inspiration born of something greater than myself. The freedom and privilege to express it.
Hope. Potential. Humility. Humanity. And something sweet to snack on.

I am thankful that I know how to take whatever I've got on hand in the kitchen and manage to cook something delicious to eat. Like tonight, I'm baking chicken and it's glazed with Teriyaki sauce and I'm steaming a pan of Jasmine rice, to go with the chicken. Yummy.
I'm also thankful that I made myself go out and about the world today. While getting an errand crossed off my list, I happened to meet someone new who used to attend the college where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree. We stood under a tree while it rained (there was blue skies earlier, lol!), and shared stories from our college years. After our short visit, we both felt like we made a new friend. She works on campus where I earned my Master's degree, so maybe we'll see each other again one day.
I'm thankful for the energy to keep going from day to day because it's not been easy to do that, for the past few weeks. Keeping myself busy helps, but having quiet time helps me to deal with unexpected changes in life.
And I am thankful to experience life each day that goes by.
Just to live, breathe, think, feel, and be good to me.

That is a helpless feeling.Last week I couldn't make it home and i was allowed to stay on fairground property, they were having a four day stand down and it was the first day and I volunteered to stay the night in the building that had all the donations and stuff.Sometime during the early morning hours i was awaken by someone entering through an unlocked side entrance door. He,and i'm certain it was a male was shocked to hear me call out who the hell he was...my voice even scares me sometimes,I sound dangerous when i get all excited.Anyways,he left, and I called head security and made out a report for them.I was told later on there was two strange males that were chased off the grounds that night.
I'm thankful everytime I make it home...I told you that already, huh.:|

Thankful my mortgage loan originator woman, Allison, was able to get back with me today and I did not have to wait the weekend and into next week. Initially, she said the underwriter would take 5 business days to review my stuff. Anyway, the underwriter finished in less than two days. Allison called and told me today, "now go get you a house!" I could not be more delighted! I want a secluded few acres and a small house. Hope I can wrangle a deal to get a subcompact backhoe in with my house payments. And by all means, make sure it has an auger! LOL! I have driven heavy equipment. Had the most fun on a humongous tractor. It was a very old model, the gearbox was right up tight between the operator's legs. It was so high, I felt like I was sitting on top of the world when I mounted it. How fun!!!

I am thankful for the acknowledgement that I have done all I can as often as I can.
I am even more thankful for the new opportunities to do more.
I am thankful for having a wee room to call home, and a bed to fall asleep in and have sweet dreams. I am grateful for a job with a company whose core values match up with many of mine. This morning I'm particularly thankful for honest people.
A little while ago I left my purse in the grocery cart in the parking lot—I was so worried about some bleach I had put in the car that I forgot about my handbag. I realized I didn't have it when I stopped to get gas.
I returned to the grocery store and one of the employees had found it and took it to the manager. I gave her a finder's fee :) and counted my lucky stars.

Why The Post Office Makes America Great
by Zeynep Tufekci
I was transported recently to a place that is as enchanting to me as any winter wonderland: my local post office.
In line, I thought fondly of the year I came to this country from Turkey as an adult and discovered the magic of reliable mail service. Dependable infrastructure is magical not simply because it works, but also because it allows innovation to thrive, including much of the Internet-based economy that has grown in the past decade. You can’t have Amazon or eBay without a reliable way to get things to people’s homes.
Of course, infrastructure is also boring, so we get used to it and forget what a gift it truly is. I never do, maybe because I discovered it so late.
My first year in the United States was full of surprises. I remember trying to figure out if the 24-ounce glass of ice water the waitress placed in front of me was a pitcher, to be shared by the whole table. But where was the spout? I had expected some of what I encountered — I had seen enough movies, and came to this country expecting big cars and big houses and wide open spaces. I got used to gigantic glasses.
But I didn’t expect the post office.
The first time I needed to mail something, I trekked over to my campus’s post office, looking for the line to get my envelope weighed. The staff was used to befuddled international students like me, I suppose, and one clerk took my envelope without fuss, said “first class letter,” and took my change.
Then I discovered some vending machines outside the office. People came and bought stamps. “So many people must be into stamp collecting,” I thought to myself. Was that another weird American quirk? Otherwise, why would people waste money buying stamps in advance, without having their letters weighed?
Something I take for granted now just didn’t occur to me: There were standardized rates, and you could just slap a stamp on your letter, drop it in a mailbox, and it would go to its destination.
I then encountered a visa service that asked me to mail in my passport. My precious, precious passport. With a self-addressed, stamped envelope for its return. I laughed at the audacity of the request. Despite being a broke student, I booked a plane trip. I couldn’t envision putting my passport in the mail. I’ve since learned that this is a common practice, and I’ve even done it once or twice myself. But it still does not come easy to me.
I noticed that Americans were a particularly patriotic bunch: So many of them had red flags on their mailboxes. Sometimes they would put those flags up. I presumed it was to celebrate national holidays I did not yet know about. But why did some people have their flags up while others did not? And why weren’t they American flags anyway? As in Istanbul, where I grew up, I assumed patriotism had different interpretations and expressions.
The mystery was solved when I noticed a letter carrier emptying a mailbox. I was slightly unnerved: Was the mail being stolen? He then went over to another mailbox with the flag up, and emptied that box, too. I got my hint when he skipped the mailbox with the flag down.
Yes, I was told, in the United States, mail gets picked up from your house, six days a week, free of charge.
I told my friends in Turkey about all this. They shook their heads in disbelief, wondering how easily I had been recruited as a C.I.A. agent, saying implausibly flattering things about my new country. The United States in the world’s imagination is a place of risk taking and ruthless competition, not one of reliable public services.
I bit my tongue and did not tell my already suspicious friends that the country was also dotted with libraries that provided books to all patrons free of charge. They wouldn’t believe me anyway since I hadn’t believed it myself. My first time in a library in the United States was very brief: I walked in, looked around, and ran right back out in a panic, certain that I had accidentally used the wrong entrance. Surely, these open stacks full of books were reserved for staff only. I was used to libraries being rare, and their few books inaccessible. To this day, my heart races a bit in a library.
Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate the link between infrastructure, innovation — and even ruthless competition. Much of our modern economy thrives here because you can order things online and expect them to be delivered. There are major private delivery services, too, but the United States Postal Service is often better equipped to make it to certain destinations. In fact, Internet sellers, and even private carriers, often use the U.S.P.S. as their delivery mechanism to addresses outside densely populated cities.
Almost every aspect of the most innovative parts of the United States, from cutting-edge medical research to its technology scene, thrives on publicly funded infrastructure. The post office is struggling these days, in some ways because of how much people rely on the web to do much of what they used to turn to the post office for. But the Internet is a testament to infrastructure, too: It exists partly because the National Science Foundation funded much of the research that makes it possible. Even some of the Internet’s biggest companies, like Google, got a start from N.S.F.-funded research.
Infrastructure is often the least-appreciated part of what makes a country strong, and what makes innovation take flight. From my spot in line at the post office, I see a country that does both well; not a country that emphasizes one at the expense of the other.
