Yup, serious crush here. Major, heavy, delicious crush. Feels delightfully weird to have a crush at this age. :D (Hy will laugh when Hy reads the reference to my age.....thinks I'm "so young"! Pffft.). And yes, Hy knows and the crush is quite mutual. (Insert big obnoxious sigh here)

Until now, I'd never considered the tax man in a romantic context. But, you know, maybe I shouldn't be so closed-minded.
At least he wouldn't be all smiley and full of the joys of life. Come to think of it, this could have some merits .............. plus, maybe more chance of a tax rebate if I keep him satisfied.

Katniss~~(Time...the great equalizer....)
I remember when this photograph hit the internet years ago. I never thought someone could make this final embrace ugly. Why am I not surprised?
These lovers were found in an Italian archeological dig if I remember correctly. It speaks volumes to those of us who believe in soul mates, forever loves, cosmic connection.
It gives me pause. We read about couples that die within days or hours of each other, unable to bear the loss of the other. We dream of a lover who would die without us in their lives, or our death without our vital other half.
I am not offended by your post Katniss. It brought back a warm wonderful feeling from long ago, so I thank you for posting it today. It just seems sad that someone found it amusing. How cynical.

Reminds me of what I used to explain to my ex who had/has this incredible fear of death so intense that she'd have panic attacks at the thought of it:
I hope I die one second after you, holding you, so you don't have to leave this world alone, so you pass safely in my arms, knowing you were held and sincerely loved and treasured, knowing I was there for you. But I do hope that I die one second-- just one second-- after you do so I don't have time to "miss" you, to process it, to suffer the loss of not having you in my world.

Yeah, I believe she meant time ,here on earth, as the equalizer for these lovers. I will go so far as to include this picture as I would propose that she shares the same sentiments as you; That love continues after our time here on earth.

I also remember when this first came to light and the Hallmark-esque feelings it seemed to elicit around the globe. I also remember finding it interesting that the assumption was of two lovers entwined when it just as easily could have been two people trying to throttle one another in anger, a man confronting his cheating wife and trying to kill her (a single skeleton was found nearby but this was a communal burial area so no telling) or any other less than savory demise of these two. What has come to light since the unearthing is the skeletons were male and female, under 20 years of age, and they did not die a violent/trauma death. According to Professor Silvia Bagnoli who lead the research team it is most likely they died of extreme cold. Additionally they did not die in that particular embrace as the bodies were positioned that way at the time of burial. I suppose since we don't know the truth we may as well add some romance to it. (shrug)
The real reason for my response to the post is I want to go on record that I abhor the thought of "a lover who would die without me in their life." Frankly I don't need that kind of pressure. It also smacks of a potential murder-suicide we see on the nightly news when one lover wants out of the arrangement and the other does not. If I do have a soulmate I would be grievously disappointed if they stopped living because I had passed on. There is too much love, joy, hope and beauty in this world to pin it all on one person. I also hope any potential soulmate knows that I am not sitting on my arse waiting to be rescued or "completed" as my life is already pretty freaking fabulous and full of love, joy and really cool activities and people. Matter of fact it will take a hella' special someone for me to want to make time to add them to my life. Because they would be an "addition" and not a "completion." Would I like to meet my "one and only?" Sure! Is it necessary to do so in order to have a full life? Nope, not for me at least. But if/when I do I would never look back at my single friends and think they are less "complete" or missing a "vital other half" just because they are single.
I've been on my soapbox too long and don't want Wolfy to chase me out of this thread. So I will also raise a glass of moscato tonight and toast true love, no matter how absent, fleeting or time enduring.
Katniss~~(but if depth of love is in direct correlation to time of death as a couple....should I meet my soulmate I plan to keep her healthy as hell for as long as possible!)

I am taking an older, glamourous woman** that I love very much out for a really nice meal tomorrow evening. What a way to start the weekend ........
* I'm not sure on the exact dictionary definition of the word but it basically means "Boston Red Sox fans"
** alas it's not a romantic encounter. That older glamourous woman happens to be my mum - she's over visiting London for the next week or so.

I take it you mean the literal definition of "schadenfrude" which is "pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others." (Leave it to the Germans to have such a perfectly precise word for that particular emotion.....)
As to the rest, you might have a chuckle at a recent conversation I had with a baseball fan when she asked me to guess her favorite team. After several failed attempts at the correct answer she prompted with "Remember I'm from Massachusetts" and I replied in all sincerity "I didn't know Massachusetts had a baseball team." Whoopsie...that went over like a lead balloon.

Katniss - yes, that is EXACTLY what I meant. I love your anecdote re the Massachusetts baseball team. Forgive me, but I think I will be using that in future.
Everyone here - I have a question / predicament and looking for constructive opinions / advice. Okay?
So, here I was this morning to meet a friend for a coffee. Everything was fine. Except, he'd brought his dog. She is a beautiful bull-type dog of some sort and small enough to carry. It reignited my long-held desire to have a staffie bull terrier. I SO want one but, given I work up to 16 hour days, it is impractical and would be wholly unfair to get one.
So I'm now thinking that, if I could get a live-in partner here in London, we can overcome this problem and I can get a staffie.
So cutting long story short. I want to ask for potential partners here on the possibility that they uproot their life in the US so that they can mind my dog whilst I'm in work. However, before I do so, I would appreciate a sense as to whether it seems reasonable and realistic?

Find a reputable dog walker or dog/house sitter for while away or at work, with explicit instructions on training and behavioral issues, frequency and length of walks, total time/distance/location, and which dog parks your furchild is permitted to frequent.

Then you're back to finding a domestic goddess who can fix a meal to make a table groan, mind all the housekeeping, be a personal assistant and secretary, and mind the dog. And is there a salary involved at this point? All that doesn't leave much time for earning a living.
But seriously, do you have time (already mentioned) and space for a dog, even a small one? Or access to a doggy day care or dogsitter? Then you'll have veterinary care and supplies.
The reason I have cats instead of a dog, though I love them, is because cats are very independent and don't require walks. However, dogs make great pets if you choose a breed wisely.

If you ARE actually serious....
Dogs like people...especially their Masters at home. Personally, I don't think it is so kind to leave a dog at a daycare for 16 hours a day (and I doubt you will be able to find one that stays open that long).
Your dog wants to be with you, doing stuff with you. To me, it doesn't sound like you have time for a dog. I feel shitty if after I get home from work (8.5- 9 hours), I leave him to go out with people. Most of the time I don't, but I always make sure to make up for it on the weekends with long hikes, etc. To ME, it doesn't sound like you have time for a dog.
I say focus on getting the girl first, then get the dog! No girl = no dog.
Suck it up and get a cat (a lot of them don't give a shit).

Thanks all for the constructive advice. No, I wasn't actually being serious - so I feel a bit guilty now. It was a failed attempt at self-deprecation i.e. suggesting that I lack a grounded reality :)
Don't get me wrong, I would actually really like to have a lap-dog. However, it's not a realistic option in the next few years. More importantly, same as I wouldn't actually base a relationship choice on a lady's lasagna-making skills or her ability to clean a bathroom, I wouldn't either on her aptitude to mind my dog whilst I'm out working :)

Good day Ciaran! Goodness...of course i will drop everything and run to your side. My dreams are meaningless in comparison to your need for a four legged companion you will see in passing... like all others before you the little mister in your life will fall madly in love with me essentially kicking you to the curb. Cleaving only to me and no other.
You will be amazed at how happy your new family will be as you provide plenty of financial support without the trial of dealing with your private needs. You will be required to prance about in your leopard g-string once weekly and scrub the loo in previously mentioned attire with a black feather boa and red nasty girl heels. Fishnet tights are optional of course. In return you will receive a copy of all photos and film taken. If you
are found satisfactory you might receive a token 2percent of proceeds minus my cut.

Since it is moot now, yes, I've had a crush on someone consistantly, constantly, totally, solely since 2009. Same person. One person. In all that time we have been "friends". His Mom even likes me. She talks about me all the time he told me. I hung up my crush hat. Put away my crush dress. Tossed my crush :blueheels:.
After all this time, the light in my darkness is out. So. When I get to the end of the river of tears, I will cease to indulge in such fantasy again. It's rather silly of me at this age to still believe in fairy tales. Need to outgrow this high school mentality I cling to foolishly. My ego is sorely bruised, which is a good thing, maybe now I can get on with living for myself, not my id.

When I was 6 years old, I had a cat called Tod. Tod was beautiful and I loved Tod very much. But then, one day, Tod went away. Never came back. I've had feelings of abandonment ever since but have tried to suppress these for three decades.
And then I read the above - and the feelings of abandonment have come flooding back. It's due to Tod and that fateful day in 19xx (year excluded to preserve some mystery) that I cannot hold a successful relationship, why I suffer from anxiety and insecurities and why I'm always looking for approval. I'd be crying now if I wasn't so tough and hard.
ps - as a result of bringing these feelings of abandonment to the surface, I need to retaliate. Therefore, that photo of me in the leopardskin g-string that I'd promised you? No chance now - even if you do pay the $10 fee (can you send me the $10 anyway?).
Sweet Bliss

:h I suffer from anxiety and insecurities and why I'm always looking for approval. I'd be crying now if I wasn't so tough and hard.
(can you send me the $10 anyway?).
May I restate the obvious?? In 19xx your first pussy left you, and left you scarred and unable to get another pussy? Tragic story to be sure Ciaran. I have lots of pussies at my loft.... 3 to be exact. They are everywhere, on my bed, top of my fridge, under my feet, in the window watching the bird channel. Not to mention all the wild pussy wandering the neighbor hood.
Perhaps when you have a break through with your therapist you can hop across the pond and pet my pussy.(ies) Please wash your hands throughly first. Nails clipped. No polish.
As for that ten spot, please find it enclosed in this post, I feel guilty for accepting that pirated dvd of your last modeling sessions... love the way you strut your 'stuff', mmmmm. Hubba hubba :hk11:

I volunteer at a no-kill shelter. We currently have about 230 cats/kittens that would fit the bill and about 32 small dogs. :ballcat: :doghead:
They also have the added benefit of never telling your secrets, being content to wear the same old collar day after day and happy with eating just the pizza crust when you are done with your share. All are willing to give nose kisses but one cat in particular likes to lick bare feet.

Well I never! We do *not* ship them to other shelters! (<---said in a huffy you-ruffled-my-feathers voice) :fyi:
The shelter is called Furkids and here is the link. http://furkids.org/
We actually had over 1,000 cats adopted last year. Sadly we took in more than that so we are always a bit full. The shelter is cage free with large rooms separating the cats in to manageable groups. I have volunteered at a lot of shelters in my time but when this one says no-kill they mean it. One of the cats has been there about 6 years (she is a gorgeous Persian but mean as a snake.) They also have a separate facility for FIV+ cats which are difficult to home. I started out huffy because we actually have had a problem with *other* shelters dropping off FIV+ cats in the dead of night. They know we will take them and then they can still claim to be no-kill. It isn't cheap to house an FIV+ cat so other shelters are keen to move them elsewhere.
Ok, off my soapbox :soapbox: and sooooorry Wolfy for the itty bitty derail but Macele started it! :slapfight: (<---blatant attempt to shift blame and also not huffy at all but I have always wanted to use this little emoticon and this is the closest chance I have gotten)

This articulates well why I've my heart set on a lapdog. All I first need is to find a lady to act as my life-long partner & dog-sitter and then I'll be in touch to see if any of the 32 small dogs would like a home here in London.
<---is wondering if perhaps Katniss has been in charge of naming animals in her shelter, as I saw a dog by the name of "Wolfie Kieran" and wondered if that was her way of honoring some of the crush thread participants LOL
I've come across that dog before and it would be a challenge to any potential owner as the dog has a split personality.
If you call the dog Wolfie, he is loving, affectionate, kind and loyal. An ideal dog, in fact. But if you call the dog Kieran, he barks loudly until bought a new sparkly collar, prefers to drink beer instead of water and is prone to sending the owner to the kennel so that he can have all of the bed for an undisturbed night's sleep whilst the owner is outside.

Dixie-- Sadly the shelter will no longer allow me to name the animals after I (innocently) named a 3 legged labrador "Eileen." In my defense an "all 80's" rock station was on the radio and that song was on when she was brought to the shelter. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it.) :sunglass: The identical twin kitties I named "Polly" and "Esther" are another matter entirely.
macele-- If "huffy" gets you hot and bothered then allow me to PM you my mother's cell phone number. She can take "huffy" to a whole new level and follow it with  :argue: :badmood::angry: :annoyed: and just when you thought she was done she will :deadhorse: until you want to :beerfunnel: If this works for you let me know. Bitter old hypocritical women need love too (probably more than the rest of us.)
Ciaran-- You are correct w/r/t "Wolfie" at the shelter. He is kind, loving and loyal....a dream crush if there ever was one. Look at his little face...

That final comment is very telling - there's already a strong resemblance between this dog and me. More so, we clearly share the same fashion sense .... in fact, I think I might have that same leotard, although I think mine might be a slightly darker shade of purple.
Also, the pose and posture is similar to one of mine in my leopard skin g-skin.
If there has ever been a dog equivalent to me, it IS this dog here.

Ha! That is funny and upon further consideration there *are* many similarities between Wile E. and having a crush. The question is, will you just peek over the edge, go ahead and jump or wait to be pushed?

Okay admitting that I am standing under the star lite night waiting for a shooting one so I can make a wish on it. I would wish this thread was like Facebook and kindly notified me if my name is mentioned. Just so I wouldn't have to go through all the posts looking for a 2x4 with my name on it.

She knows. (f) I can say that I haven't met a person yet who "gets" me like she does, doesn't want to try to make me into someone I'm not. It's nice to feel like even with all my scars and imperfections, that maybe I am "good enough" just being me, that there's nothing wrong with me being atypical, that there's no expectations to be uber-macho. She's perfectly fine with the fact that I am more "Clark Kent" than "Superman"-- I'll peel off the suit and tie, step up if needed, but I don't want to be anyone's superhero. I want a woman strong enough to stand on her own.
The most wonderful part though is no pressure, no rush. It's enjoyable taking the time to talk, to get to know her, and to enjoy that comfortable silence one feels when he is secure in the steps he is making. It's a slow journey on the road of what could possibly become something quite beautiful.

Why is it, guys need a 2x4? Why aren't your eyes open? Do you not listen? See the signs? Talk about taking a risk...new construction starts with a plan, building on it is when you use the 2x4!

Hmmmm.....although I probably *need* to get hit with a 2x4 I had much rather get hit by a super soaker hose. Or a cupcake. Yes, a drive-by cup-caking would be much more likely to engender a positive response.

Then may I go back to my original suggestion of a super soaker water gun? My go-to model happens to be the "Water Warriors Colossus" holding roughly 540mL of pressurized air. The Colossus also features three nozzle settings so depending on how oblivious your crush happens to be you can do a polite yet refreshing spray or an all out bowl them over blast. The Colossus’ burst setting offers a big punch, pushing out 99.5mL/sec while only losing ~0.5m of effective range. :hangloose:

Either that or I suppose your crush could pelt you with some fruit but that might be a mixed message. Would a mango rate higher than a tomato? Where does that leave the coconut? :glasses:
Katniss~~(and yes I do own a WWC. I will also upgrade if something more powerful comes along. Taking note from the military it pays to be well armed, well supplied and with the latest technology. Otherwise with the way my nieces and nephews roll you're a gonner for sure.) :mohawk:

Okay, so I've come to this thread to check out recent posts in the forlorn hope that some stunningly beautiful lady, preferably with lots of money and not scared to spend it, has announced that she is crushing on me.
No luck there so I start to feel a bit low.
However, to make matters worse, I then see pages and pages of people posting pictures of their favourite baking produce ....... but there's nothing gorgeous such as lasagna or proper homemade macaroni cheese or, even, good pizza. No, it's all cakes and other sweet stuff I don't like.
You folk are a bunch of filistines.
I'm away to send myself a PM to say that "2x4 - I'm crushing on myself" .... that will make me feel better.

No need to feel low. I might know someone with those very qualities you seek:
Stunningly beautiful-She's all right. Especially if you like Beaker-like hair.
Gorgeous lasagna or proper macaroni cheese-I suppose she can boil water. No complaints yet.

It's been over half a week since I last posted to this thread. And, guess what? Yes, despite the long period of time that has passed, I am still single. That's a further half a week of being left on the shelf and, more importantly, half a week closer to when I finally throw in the towel and claim spinsterhood as my one true vocation.
I've been doing a lot of reflecting in recent days. I now know that there are a number of reasons why I've been left on the shelf - these range from my bad breathe to my hunchback-like posture. However, more so, I think that the main reason is my grumpy demeanour.
Therefore, I've decided that I'm going to be smiley, pleasant, kind and considerate for the remainder of 2013 - especially in this thread. So here goes ......
- To those of you who have found love. I am not jealous or bitter. Rather, I think it is amazing. Your journey is truly inspirational and I wish you the best in your happiness. :rrose::rrose::rrose::rrose::rrose:
- To those of you who haven't found love. You are so terrific that love is just around the corner. In fact, someone is probably already in love with you and you don't know it. :flowers::flowers:
- To everyone who posts in this thread. You are the people that make this world great. You rock my world. I love everyone of you.:bowdown:
- Hugs and kisses to all of you and I really hope you have a truly fantastic week. :gimmehug::gimmehug:

Fortunately, I get across the pond often. It doesn't take long to get married so, if you're up for it, let me know. I really do want to give my mum the opportunity to wear her wedding hat one last time.
I'm in NYC as from 18th May (or May 18th as you folk on the wrong side of the pond say). I have an engagement that night and will be jet lagged. However, on Sunday 19th, I've got a 30 min slot in the early evening. It would be an unforgettable ceremony and, if the pastor gets through it quickly, it would give me up to 10 minutes to consummate the marriage. Admittedly, I can rarely last that long these days due to my bad back but I'll give it a try.

This is a momentous moment. After a few promising opportunities which turned out to be fruitless, this is the one time that I see my wedding finally in sight. In fact, it's the first wedding to have been agreed as a result of this thread !!
Alas, the thousands of miles that separate us geographically mean that I cannot be there to propose in person and give you a multi-thousand $ ring. So instead, I've prepared the following personalised note as my official proposal and declaration of my genuine love for you.
In fact, I've been working on it for some days now just to get it 100% right. When it comes to love, I don't settle for anything less than perfection:

They all got cold feet before the service but it was always their problem - not mine. One of them got nervous once she found out about my sheep fetish, another decided to call it off after I innocently suggested she could dress up as Sue Ellen for me (I always wanted to act out a J.R. / Sue Ellen tryst in the bedroom). Always small things like that which caused them to over-react and call it off.
We have something really, really special here. I love you Mospie, really I do - your name is etched for eternity in my heart.
More so, I don't want to disappoint my mum - and you wouldn't want to either.

Katniss - I like your style. I think we could do well in business together. I sense that, if we do things right, there's money to be made here.
Now hold on just a minute there! I recall you got cold feet when you found out my hometown-specifically, my hometown baseball team (I use the term loosely). A trade that occurred over twenty years before I was even born managed to tank our nuptials. Talk about overreaction.
Whilst I do my best not to discriminate, I quite simply cannot look at anyone the same way once I know that they come from Cl***land. Marrying someone from the same city as where Joltin' Joe's record-breaking streak came to an end would be perverse. Life's hard and sometimes you just need to walk away.

Um. Mopsie - I love you very much, even more than Derek Jetzer.
However, whilst we're getting married in the US and under US legislation, post marriage we will be following Irish cultural practices. In Ireland, the mammy (i.e. mom) remains head of the household and retains number one position in my heart.
As someone with a beautiful soul, I'm sure you will understand the need to retain this tradition.
ps - no sheep at the wedding. We're getting married in Manhattan, not some redneck village full of yokels. I might have a sheep fetish but it doesn't mean that I want them to brush against my cavallis.

Can you let me know who the late-breaking third player is and, if you know it, an indication of her net worth?
I mean, I love Mopsie very much but it's always best to know what the other options are. Especially as the wedding is fast approaching and, if I'm going to need to call it off, I don't have much time to come up with the excuse.

Clearly, I don't know why I'm still here, as the site of my birth is a permanent blot in my copybook. Never mind that I haven't lived there in 20 years and would not go back permanently-too cold. And so, once again, I did say that bantering on the crush thread can get you crushed (w).
Ironically, nearly at the same time, what was on my computer but The Amazing Race and Ciaran's own hometown of Belfast. This time the racers were snorkeling in a peat bog (which actually looked like fun), serving first class meals at the Titanic drydock, and racing to Ulster Hall. I'm sure every setting shot would be instantly recognizable.
(I think, like the scene in Spartacus, all of you should have my back and stand up one by one, saying "I'm from Cle**land!").

Wolfy, Greeneyes...try to get the rest of the thread to safety. I'll distract Mopzilla with samples of handmade lace, monogrammed high end bedding, and honeymoon destination brochures.
Jagg, you organize all the retired Devil Dogs and find that groom. (Note I did not say "former" as having partnered with a Marine who served for 26 years you have only to say "former Marine" once to learn your lesson on *that* topic.)

24 hours ago, having fallen in love hard and fast, I was making arrangements to marry Mopsie. However, 24 hours later and it has all unravelled - unfortunately, Mopsie picked up on a mention I'd made in a post about previous women I'd courted on the thread for marriage.
Next thing I know, it's a free-for-all with nosey parkers getting involved and refusing to mind their own business. Netflix must have been down yesterday across much of the USA or something along those lines.
Either way, after this latest marriage fiasco, I've been left feeling a bit like a cross between Britney Spears and Liza Minnelli. I've had better 24 hour periods.

It has taken me 3 years to open myself back up to possibilities.
I have high hopes with little expectations.
If a woman can captivate me with her mind, she's got a foot in the door.
I have never looked from the outside in, but rather from the inside out at a woman.
I have had one great love in my life and have loved some after her and before her.

The wedding is off? After all that work? Well, guess I better call Kermit and tell him he is free this weekend and no need to fly in and sing a rendition of "It ain't easy being Green." As well my gift to the two of you was kind of lame. It isn't a Yankees card and is a bit marked along the edges. I wanted a full color one but the guy said they only came in this two tone style. I wonder if he was holding out on me but I was pressed for time so the best I could come up with.

Ciaran--we are only nosey parkers because we care. (<--how my mother justifies meddling). Additionally I have my eye on the title of "Jaded Confirmed Spinster" and you are in my way. I thought if I got you married off the crown would be mine.
Mopsie--Offering up what would have been your reception feast to the thread is a class act and well done. A true Southern belle. (helping self to corner piece of lasagna that has the most crunchy edges)
Wolfy--Sorry we made a mess of your thread. (grabs broom and starts sweeping) Thank you for being so patient with us.
macele--Katniss is a nickname given to me from "The Hunger Games" by my friends. I volunteer as an archery instructor for the Girl Scouts and lately have been taking a Kyudo class (Japanese longbow) so it fits. Except I am very bad but have no shame and continue to try anyway.
