I'm watching CNN and wondering if it's healthy to be so mesmerised by American politics.

No, but it is like when everyone on the freeway slows down to look at the accident.

You don't want to look, you try not to, but most people do look anyway.

Trump is our very own American train-wreck.

I am too.

Listening to Franken question DeVos. Sanders did a good job asking the right questions of which she had zero answers of substance. Seems like she can't answer Franken's either from what I'm hearing. She cannot answer education-based questions--wow.

Let's hear how she answers about her family donating to Focus to the Family. WHY am I doing this to myself? :/

Jennifer and Kevie are in the bathroom on the other side of the door from where I am sitting. I had their safe place prepared before my weather radio blew its siren and my neighbor texted me TORNADO simultaneously. We have been practicing for these type days. I yell "FIRE DRILL" and my dogs go jump in the hole. Tornado on the ground nearby, said radar indicates rotation.

I charged Sears DIEHARD power supply last night. I have an Atomic Beam flashlight with fresh batteries in my pocket and a headlamp on that has new batterties too. Cannot think of anything else I can do but sit and wait.

After a few hours of wear, I have figured out how to read with them and use them for distance etc. I think I may have to get the vision center to make a 2nd pair without all of the special effects these have, to wear when I am using the computer. My monitor screen is too large to wear progressives with. But yes, you need to basically point your nose where you want to read/see, instead of just moving your eyes back and forth.

I had problems with mine at first too. Fortunately my eye doc didn't just pat me on the head - say there there, and tell me if I just kept on keeping on the problem would resolve itself. She had her receptionist move her schedule around so she could re-examine me. Said though it sounded minor this is what I should avoid/do if things got worse. After re-examining me she was able to figure out what went wrong, sent my glasses back to the lab and had the problem fixed at no additional cost.

She said some difficulty adjusting is normal, especially for first time users, but it shouldn't be prolonged and definitely should not hurt. I still had to get used to them after they came back but it was nothing like the first time. I never did get used to the line in my old glasses so I'm very happy about being able to wear my progressives comfortably. Next time I'm going to heed her advice though. I like the look of the glasses I have now but I can see how I will benefit from going with a larger frame.

I don't know long it will take to adjust but if it persists I'd let your doc know if you haven't already. For me it was a minor tweak that made all the difference and now I love my progressives. Hopefully it proves to be the same for you. Some people just don't get used to them though and there's nothing wrong with that either. I actually like the look of glasses on people and pay more attention to the frames, type of haircut they have, or how they keep their nails than I do on lenses anyway.

Same. I had to have mine readjusted (the span for reading was far too little so I had to crane my head to read!). After I explained the problem (I thought at first it was just me but it WAS the glasses and the amount they had designated for distance (too much) and reading (too little). The lab took them back and expanded the reading portion higher up.

They do take some getting used to, but I love them now!

Are you able to use yours while using a computer? This is the worst part for me, because apparently progressive lenses assume one is looking down to read, which is not true when using a monitor.

Yes I'm able to see well using progressives when on the computer. When they prescribe and make progressives they take into account what things you'll most often be using your glasses for. I actually have an easier time seeing when looking forward at my desktop monitor straight on than I do looking down at the screen my son's laptop.

Thinking about today, the meeting with my manager, the documentation I have to provide. Sometimes we have to assert ourselves at work in ways which make us uncomfortable but it is a necessity in taking care of one's best interests.

I absolutely hate doing this kind of stuff!!! It is almost like a fist fight sounds more appealing, do it, it is done. I would even take the chance on breaking my nose again just for this whole damn thing to be over. LOL! Keeping a sense of humor is so important to me right now. Yesterday in my manager's office someone made some feeble remarks, both he and my manager had the "dread" look on their faces. I said, "Lighten up, we'll get through this, no one has to die." I received a toothie grin from manager and a chuckle. Nothing from the other person.

I have been searching for the right shower gel/body wash for a few months now. By right, it must smell good, be made of natural ingredients, have a decent lather, not dry my skin out, and not feel like it leaves a film of soap that I can't wash off. Lol! I am not picky about soap at all! :)

At any rate, I ordered a couple of sample sizes a few days ago and they arrived today. One in particular smells divine, so I am headed to the shower to run it through my tests.

Well, right now I am sitting at the pc browsing the forum to see what everyone has been up to. :) But...

I just finished bottling up a gallon of homemade kombucha into 7- 16 oz bottles for the 2nd ferment, which is the one that gives it it's fizz. I decided to make 3 flavors to start with, so I dug out the juicer and the fruit. The first flavor is blueberry ginger, second is kiwi lime, and the third is apple pie. I only made one bottle of the apple pie because I am not certain that is a taste that will appeal to me in liquid form.

I need to brew a new jug of tea and get the process started again because it takes about 9-10 days from start to finished product with the warm weather we have right now.

I also bottled up 4-16 oz bottles of tangerine flavored kefir water soda.

Now if only my dinner will hurry up and finish roasting, I will be happy! :byebye:

Fuming slightly....compared to fuming hugely a few minutes ago...

The same person who called out on a shift LAST Monday called out today too. I had to cover for her last week and now they want me to do it again. It makes for a 17 hour shift. Ordinarily I wouldn't care, but my daughter isn't here to let the dogs out.

Seriously why cant people just adult and take care of their own shit....?

As a footnote I even let her know (in a nice way) how inconvenient it was to have to cover for her. And still....

Change your fucking schedule if its not working for you. Don't expect everyone else to pick up your damn slack.

My morning has been filled with culture! Cultured drinks, that is. :)

First, I bottled up a gallon of water kefir and flavored it with fresh apple slices and apple pie seasoning. Then I got another batch started in the jar.

Secondly, I strained my quart jar of milk kefir, washed the jar and got another batch of that brewing.

Thirdly, I bottled up the kombucha, then made more tea which is cooling now. Once it cools, I will put the kombucha scobys in it and it will be on it's way to fermenting.

Of course I also had to clean up and wash utensils in between each type of culture.

I make milk kefir daily, water kefir every 4 to 5 days and kombucha about every 7 to 9 days, so I've settled into a routine with it finally.

Reminds me of my dad. He used to eat scrapple and eggs when we lived back east. He was Pennsylvania Dutch and German.

I have never seen it in CA.

I remembered I did not care for it. I forgot what was in it. In case you don't know either, Wiki always does!

"Scrapple, also known by the Pennsylvania Dutch name Pannhaas or "pan rabbit," is traditionally a mush of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal and wheat flour, often buckwheat flour, and spices."

Good morning all! I am eating oatmeal and watching VICE from last night on "Black and Blue"; about Black Lives Matter and the police. Organizers have begun a "Campaign Zero" to develop policy solutions to bring an end to the violence and death. Did you know some cities have killed no unarmed black men and other cities have extraordinarily high rates? St. Louis has killed 65.77 per 1 million people (90% black) and Orlando PD comes in second.

My oatmeal is sitting heavy right now but this is our reality.

Yard work! Lots of raking (which I absolutely hate), then the first mow of the year. Spread some dirt into some low spaces and finished by cleaning and washing the rider.

It went well except the raking. All the sticks from the hard rains and the pods (I am guessing that's what they are called) from the magnolias. They would have been beautiful but the freeze ruined all the blossoms. THE worst thing was forgetting to put the gas cap on and running over it. I need to get that replaced before my mother finds out. Funny, I am almost 48 but don't want to tell Her I messed up!

They really should have planned this carpet installation around the holiday season when our department takes off for a couple weeks. I still can't believe they arranged this to happen now.

Maybe this is some kind of test from the universe ... I'on't think I'm gonna pass.

That does sound stressful. But I'm glad you have an official "PC crew" who orchestrates the move. Fingers crossed they know what they are doing.

Hang in there, Orema!

The mindset of IT: we got a notice that our secondary computer needs some updates to run and that it should remain on and up the whole weekend to make sure all of them process.

Cool, except for one thing.

Our IT department has our secondary computer at the home office.

Doh.

Har!

Thanks you both. The move and set up went very well. Everything was up and running when I left this evening except the printer and printing isn't an important function for me this week. The two-person team who moved the computer hookup did an excellent job and I'll give them a couple small gift cards when they move me back to my origial digs.

Lucky me

Listening to the clank, clank, clank of a zipper tumbling round and round in the dryer, this despite vain attempt at muffling sound by throwing a whole bunch heavy towels in with it. Enjoying a ginormous, already super charged latte with an extra shot of expresso added in for good measure which I shouldn’t be having - and am probably enjoying, precisely because I shouldn’t be having it. Wondering why it is Xanax isn’t prescribed more routinely, particularly in the case of routinely obnoxious men. Trying to remain calm as two loonies in charge of whole countries seem to be having some sort of – Oh yeah you think your nuclear armament/deployment capabilities are impressive, well let me show you mine, adult version of some incredibly alarming, incredibly juvenile pissing contest. Trying best I can not to dwell on how deeply troubling, flipping frightening, disturbing to me the whole thing is. Watching Monte the Magnificent sleeping peacefully, blithely unaware, and wondering if perhaps Reincarnationists have it all wrong and it’s us the lower life form come back to atone for far greater sins. This while listening to Styx belt out – Too Much Time on My Hands, as I sit here dreading the many weary hours of the empty day ahead. I really should get out more. But then I’d have to shower, look in the mirror; see my botched hair from an incredibly bad trim yesterday. Too bad there isn’t haircut insurance I can afford but there just isn’t, which when I think about it makes sense. This because with as many femmes on the planet I’ve met as disappointed in their hair magicians as I am, what incentive for insurers would that be, knowing all the settlements they’d have to pay out, and because if it how broke they’d be.

Sitting in an exam room, waiting for my doctor to look at my shin, hoping to get released with no more meds. I told the nurse who took my vitals I will NEVER take CIPRO antibiotic again and that I felt my whole body suffered a severe poisoning the entire week I had to take it.

Spaghetti sauce is simmering on the stove next to some quinoa with sundried tomatoes and spinach. Also have a whole wheat pizza dough resting and some sweet potato fries in the oven.
Washing machine is doing its thing.
Windows are open to warm-ish breezes.

Sitting outside watching babies have an ice cube party. I fed them "CHICKEN PICNIC." I have to yell that coming in the door when I have bought them a chicken breast each, it makes for lots if excitment and anticipation.

Just got home a little while ago, unloaded groceries, unloaded new 4 burner gas grill. I have not stopped all day.

The pooches got their yearly physicals, rabies shot, 6 n 1 shot another shot I cannot remember name of. I always get them tested for heartworms when they get their physicals, even though they get their routine once a month Heartguard Plus chewie every month. They got a small plain hamburger from drive-thru when we finished at the vet.

There were a lot of people in the vet waiting room. I became engrossed in conversation with a woman who had a black and white bully. I did not realize Kevin had become an instant star of the show. This one woman was making a video of him and then began asking me all sorts of questions about him while still filming. Several people were talking about him while the woman continued making a video of Kevie. I had no idea until the woman I was conversing with nodded me to look over. And later there was this man coming down the hall with his wife (wife carrying yorkie) asked me if it was alright to pet Kevin. I told him Kevie would love it. And he did!

Then I went to the doctor and had the hole in my shin looked at. Doc was telling me he was going to give me another round of antibiotic and I pleaded with him not to. He did not. Whew!

Stopped at grocery store and bought all sorts of good stuff. Lots of meat for the new grill too. Yay, I am not blowing my groceries anymore and can eat. Food tastes right too. BIG YAY! LOL!

lolly-gagging here in bed
- learned word "lolly-gagging" in military basic training
- translation: being lazy, goofing off, etc.

I actually slept a little over 7 hours last night. It was wonderful considering some meds I was on for a week prevented any sleep past 1.5 hours each night.

going to be a terrific day! :)
