I just wondered if anyone here had tried aerial yoga?
I know they have it in Asheville...what don't they have there...but I would need to have a couple drinks to do that..it's beautiful when done correctly though...they say its a better stretch also...

I took an aerial arts class, but it was not yoga based. It was fun though. A good workout!

I woke in very good spirits this morning. Perhaps it was being able to sleep exceptionally long or that I spent some time lounging around in the little Heaven that is my bed, but my pain level was very low as well. Perhaps that is what did it.
I knew I was going to do some weight training so I didn't push too much for the cardio, especially since I wasn't in a lot of pain.

After being in a rut for sometime now, I have decided to bust out my PIYO DVD and do the 30 day challenge. I am looking forward to seeing the results!! I want to feel confident in a few of my dresses again and eventually get into my "goal" dress (which is super, super sexy and I used to rock the heck out of it... Agh memories). I've kept it all this time and I am determined!!
I also will be signing up for a 5k next month and getting back on track with running!
Here's to all the exercisers!! :)

That is clearly for those who do not have any issues with their hips, back and legs whatsoever.

No gym this morning due to conflict in work and gym schedules, as is the case for at least 2 Saturdays in the month.
I walked the neighborhood for half an hour in the rain at a nice tempo. Nothing too strenuous but enough to stretch things out a bit.
I get to go into work an hour early today.

Last night was the best night in terms of pain level that I've had since this whole thing started in August. So excited! I woke up at a low level today too and lounged around in bed for....eeek.....two hours before I crawled out and went to the gym.
Half an hour on the treadmill, semi-watching Wild Wild West without the sound (but parts of it went well with my MP3 music) before working my upper body and abs on the circuit training machines.

I don't know what it was....maybe my late start or forgetting my gloves or wearing my bouncy bra threw me off....but I couldn't focus very well so I didn't push myself too hard. Good way to injure myself doing that, so all in all, it was a good workout. Could have been better, could have been a lot worse.

Then took Jacques for a walk...about 1.5 miles...
Later it's day 3 of Ab and squat challenge and day 2 (which I will just repeat day 3 again for) of the back challenge...

So I started with my step/weights workout...which is really undefined; I do what I feel I need to work that day and try to hit all the major groups...
I did my back challenge today but not the ab/squats yet. Gotta get back on track after a super long work day yesterday (and another one tomorrow).
Note to crunchers!
I have found that putting a weight (I use a 5lb dumbbell) across my tummy, just above my belly button, makes me somehow crunch deeper and feel it better. Just wanted to throw that out there. I'm not sure if this is a common thing to do or not. It more or less gives you something tangible to crunch AROUND and I think that's why I feel it gooder...I'm not entirely sure. As I say, I'm not entirely right. But if it takes fooling your brain to do something better than usual I say why not :)
I'm going to seriously look into joining the Planet Fitness that is 20 minutes away from me. I imagine they will have excellent New Year's deals soonly...I need uphill/strength training. There are NO mountains here. And I need to train for some backpacking...god willing...come spring....let it be :vigil:

cinnamongrrl, I hold two to five pound weights in my hands while crunching and find it has the same effect. I like to try to find ways to keep things super challenging without increasing time and instead increasing intensity.

A super workout today!
It was time for me to do upper body training but I just couldn't get into the spirit of it. I ate peanut butter with my banana this morning in preparation of a circuit training workout and I brought BOTH of my workout gloves (important! last week I forgot one but brought a winter glove instead. doh!), so it should have been a no brainer but alas, it was not meant to be.
I woke up and lounged in bed for a while first. I'm finding the longer I stay in bed after I wake up, the less my pain level....at least initially. That's one good bed!
I did do an hour on the treadmill. I only started for 40 minutes and then there was an elderly gentleman that hopped on the treadmill next to me and he inspired me to keep going so I wound up doing the full hour plus cool down.
This guy was so freakin' cute! He hopped on and started walking but then quickly graduated to jogging. He was jogging baby steps on his tip toes at 2.7 mph (I snuck a peek....and continued to do so as he increased his speed throughout the workout). He's a little guy, not much taller than me and much thinner than I am. He kept upping the speed and upping it and before long, he was at 8 mph. Dude! I don't run that. Speedy Gonzalez that guy is! That wasn't his top speed even! He got close to 10 mph but only did so when he had his hands on the bar. Safety first! I felt really inspired by him and during my few intervals, we paced one another. Until he blew me out of the water, that is. lol I felt great at the end of the workout and he was still going. He came in when I was around my 10 minute mark so he was probably doing an hour too. I seriously could not keep up with him if I tried (but I didn't, because I'm not stupid).

I started my day with yoga... I have to say, it was my best day yet. I feel more limber than I did just a few days ago. I can do some of the poses that I couldn't before. And transitioning from one pose to another is going more smoothly also.
I also resumed my 2 challenges: ab/squat and back today. I started from the beginning again just to be fair.
I also did my weight/step workout to fill in the gaps. Not a bad day :)
As an aside: it's true what they say about exercise and endorphins. I have been in a bit of a holiday funk (being here without my family...or anyone really) for the last few days, and this really helped clear my mind and grant me some perspective. I am a grateful girl...

I got right into it on the treadmill and then moved on to circuit training.

Intervals: 1 @ 90 sec, 2 @ 60 sec. All @ 5.3 mph and .5 incline
Since I didn't do any weight training at all yesterday, I decided to do it all today.
yay
This is what I did:
seated leg press-90 lbs
leg extension-35 lbs
seated leg curl- 55 lbs
chest press- 35 lbs
fixed pulldown- 70 lbs
seated row, both ways- 40 lbs
shoulder press- 10 lbs
biceps curl- 40 lbs
tricep extension- 40 lbs
ab crunch machine, both ways- 40 lbs
glute- 50 lbs
hip adduction- 130 lbs
hip abduction- 130 lbs
back extension- 75 lbs
calf extension- 70 lbs
fly- 55/50/40 lbs
Usually I do the upper body one day and the lower body another and sometimes I throw in other machines that look interesting to me that particular day, like the abcoaster for the obliques or the Hammer Curl (another ab machine that hits both the top and bottom portion of the ab muscles). Today, I decided to punish myself for my laziness yesterday.
Everyone's different and, for me, the shoulder press is very hard. Ever since my car accident years ago, it's been that way. I also have difficulty blow drying and flat ironing certain sections of my hair because of it and can't do it for very long, no matter how well it's going.
I did 3 sets of 10 reps, except for the back extension and the calf extension. Those I did 3 sets of 15. I also did an extra set on the hip adduction and abduction machines. Don't get excited about the 130 lbs. It's not really 130lbs. When I transferred from an older gym to that one, I thought their hip machines were broken because my old weight was between 50-70 lbs. The older gym had more 'true' weighted machines. Nowadays a lot of the machines do the work for you, so the 130 lbs really feels like it's about half that.
I pushed myself on the fixed pulldown and really felt it right afterwards. I could have done more weight on the glute machine but it's the one that's like a kickback and every movement on my right side causes twinges in my thigh and back of my leg, which signals that the sciatica is not happy so I tend to baby myself on that machine. I prefer the glute machines that you lay down on that are kind of like a hamstring curl. Those felt like they did more for me when I used them. Again, that was at my old gym which is the same company but they are all franchised out and have different specific machines even if the general grouping is the same (upper body, lower body, ab, cardio, etc).
The fly was my last machine and I was fading fast. My first set was 55 lbs and the last was 40 lbs and even then, my arms were shaking and I couldn't quite make the handles meet in front of me. I really don't think I could have done more without sacrificing safety so I'm happy with that.
How was your Sunday workout?
Hey Gemme, great write-up :)
I haven't been posting for the last couple of weeks because I'm paying the price for doing the wrong thing. I had a situation where my yard dude didn't show for a month. November. In leaf country. I was feeling great because I've been getting some spine goodies done and it's been forever since I've been able to do that sort of thing so I went for it and raked/bagged leaves, lots of them. I knew I had been told no lifting or housework for a week and it had only been three days BUT, I was super careful and set up some clever ways of doing things so that I wouldn't be lifting much weight but that meant a lot more bending and twisting. I told myself that the first sign of discomfort and I wold stop and would have, but it never hurt. I even stopped and saved some for later. Spectacularly bad idea on my part. The next couple of days were...Hmm, interesting.
So, the hip that has been threatening to do something ugly for the last year and a half did. All my fault, but I have been relegated to walks along a trail (with a cane, temporarily) and waiting for tomorrow and my appointment with a hip guy. Not all bad, the river area is hitting eagle watching season and I've been enjoying it and learning a lot. I've even got a birdwatching mentor now, I just found out his name is Tom but I've been thinking of him as "Eagle Eye" so I'll stick with that here.
It's sort of amazing to me that two body parts made of pretty much the same things, producing symptoms that can be attributed to either somehow require an entirely separate system of specialists, clinics, images, etc; because they are two inches away from each other.
As soon as I get a consult I'll see what is prudent to do gym-wise and promise to actually obey Drs orders.
Anywho, even though it's raining, I plan on suiting up in a couple of hours and going down to see what mother nature has in store for me :cheesy:

I'm back, and on break so there will be many activities to make up for lost time. This semester was a killer (to be followed by another, i'm sure) so I haven't been as active as I normally am. My back has been reminding me of this. Yoga, first thing in the morning to remedy this lapse!
Other than that there has been some snowboarding this week, and my gf and I went snowshoeing this morning. Did a nice 6 mile hike with the dogs, now on to some laziness by the fire.

Yesterday: 30 minutes stair master, followed by 30 minutes leg and back strengthening with weights. While on the stair master I lost my nextflix connection so I was trying to figure that out while at the same time... going up "stairs." I'm always worried that being distracted by something will make me go slower, so I overcompensate and go faster. Hence, a little exercise induced asthma that thankfully went away mid-way through my weight routine. There are quite a variety of mistakes available to make when it comes to exercise :D

I started out this morning with my weight/step routine (so I could justify watching a movie) and also did the ab/squat and back challenges.
Quite frankly, I feel like I get more of a back workout from my step/weights routine. And from yoga. Mayhaps I need to increase the weights. The squats are doing their job though. I've done squats all along in one variation or another, but now I've noticed that the muscles by the outside of my knee (that go up the outside of the thigh) are much stronger now. More defined.
As to the ab workout I posted, I added reverse crunches (same amount as regular crunches) and bicycles for good measure. I also love these situps you do with weights (5lbs for me) that is basically a fly with a leg extension, but I feel my chest AND abs....I am ever the multi-tasker!
OH and suddenly I have no trouble keeping my feet on the floor while doing situps. Does that mean I've gotten stronger? Or just habituated?? I'm curious...

No exercise thus far today, but I did forget to mention I took prolly a 1.5 mile walk with Jacques. I should do the same today; he enjoys it so much :)
Also, when I woke up today, I can definitely feel my tummy tightening from the sit ups I've been doing. It's such a good feeling to get stronger :) I thought about it yesterday and I think that's why yoga is getting easier. I have less tummy in the way and what's still there I'm in the habit of pulling in to breath and move. Just having stronger stomach muscles is making me more aware of my posture, which is probably why my lower back has not been hurting me of late. (It used to hurt EVERY morning. I was like a 90 year old woman hobbling around!)
I have been gearing my workouts to strength training that will help me out with hiking/backpacking. I SO wish they would just come out with a workout for backpackers. I have sent many emails to Backpacker magazine (my bible) about this. With no results. So I do what I THINK I need...I suppose any personal trainer could help me define these goals...
<<<thinking out loud a LOT today...
Have a blessed day y'all :praying:

<<<excellent math skills!
I'm considering doing another workout. I had a goodie and it's weighing on my mind lol
Oh and I did a lot of cleaning today. It counts. My mom has her own cleaning business, never exercises at ALL and eats the crappiest, fattiest food, drinks nothing but soda and coffee and still isn't even 100lbs! Last time she checked she wasn't even 90lbs. :|

I'm doing my yoga this morning no matter what!
I thought with all else I'm doing, it wasn't AS necessary. Well...this morning my cricky back told me otherwise.
I forget what day I'm on for my challenges. Four I think. I really need to start marking them off. I will say this, squats are getting much easier. On top of the challenge ones, I also do plie type squats for inner thighs. Some with heel raises to get my calves involved. Does anyone else have a wicked hard time working their calves?? NOTHING makes them feel like I've exercised them. Not the highest mountain not the highest incline on the treadmill. I NEVER feel my calves the next day...unless I do the cardio salsa... :|
I guess I should be glad that my calves are strong...as an aside...what else is new...someone once told me instead of doing just calf raises (which I do while waiting in lines ALL.THE.TIME) turn your feet in and do them (like pigeon toed) and out as well and you work different muscles in your calves. This may be a given, but...it never occurred to me!
ALSO: I do something new and wonderful for my triceps. The name of the exercise is escaping me. Kickbacks? LOL where you hinge at the hips and extend your tricep behind you. I saw on a video where you change the position of your hand (3 different ways) and do a set of 10 each. (knuckles facing side, front and back basically)
Ohhh and there are tons of exercise videos on youtube! I may be johnnycomelately to this, but I saw full length videos with Jillian and LOTS of yoga.
As another complete aside...this Amazon Fire tv box thing...I'm excited about it mostly because you can get Daily Burn on your tv now. No more tiny little laptop screen! It's a happy day in exercise land :) (for me anyway...but I do tend to thrill easily)

Calf raises can also be done on the very edge of your step. Line your toes up and let your heels drop slowly as low as you can and still maintain your balance. Rinse, lather, repeat.
Because we use calves every day, unless you really do some damage......like running up and down stairs for a really long time......you're not going to feel the 'burn' that you do with other muscles.
Calf muscles are like the tongue of the leg. Strong and silent unless brutalized.

Yes it is :) Excellent analogy about the calves too! I do those types of raises, and used to do the ONE machine at the gym that was for calves. Nada. But, like you said, they are strong because they have to be. I'm sure if I get into backpacking I will feel them then.
SPEAKING OF WHICH!
I found workouts geared towards backpackers on youtube...of course. Youtube has everything.. I don't think these are trainers per say. I think they are backpackers that figured out what they needed for conditioning to prep for a thru hike. Sadly, everyone suggests the stairmaster...my nemesis. I just find them HUGELY boring....the stairway to nowhere. At least on the elliptical I can escape my mind and I'm cross country skiing or running somewhere pretty. I can not imagine heaps of stairs going anywhere nice. Except maybe Machu Picchu.
I guess I need to suck it up, throw on a pack and take the stairs....it will never be as much fun as hiking though. Even my imagination can only do so much...

Stairs , stairs, stairs! That's the key for hiking and backpacking. Stair master will give you a false sense of confidence when it comes time to do your first 10 mile day with a freshly loaded pack! That or Try long distance hiking with a loaded pack (30 lbs minimum if you plan on doing anything 3+ days). However there are some fun stair activities if you can find a place to train...why not set the goal of hiking the equivalent of Macchu Picchu - throw on the tunes and get busy!

When I lived in Asheville, my walking routine included stairs. When I moved to a little town nearby (Fairview) my routine included a mammoth mother of a hill (a mountain really) and two smaller (by comparison) hills also. I'm HOPEFULLY moving back to that town soon, and if I do, I will resume that routine, PLUS there was another monster hill further down the same road.
But yes, carrying a weighted pack is a good idea for conditioning. And will REALLY help me with my reality check of what I NEED to take hiking/backpacking and what I don't. :)
PS: I have always felt that machines were not as good as the real thing...I don't feel the same way after a hike as I do walking on a treadmill. It's as if the machine helps too much. It feels like your not really propelling your weight and fighting gravity in the same way. I'm SO glad I can save myself the stairmaster misery! Thanks :koolaid:

While this is something I don't get to do anymore (at least until I can get fixed), I was very active in the mountaineers for 15 of my younger years and found a couple of things to be true; basically know what you are going to climb/hike and train for that. Of course some crossover training is always a good idea.
Think about the terrain you will be on and if possible find something similar but less severe. Do as much as you can with a pack on with what you anticipate to be the weight you will be carrying, and work up to it over a few weeks if you have that much time pre-trip. This has the added bonus of making you decide half of that stuff is unnecessary :). Strength training so that you can manage the pack would be the standard suite of core and leg work with good stretching important. Remember carrying the pack is the easy part, taking it off and putting it on is when you are most likely to strain something.
The other thing is elevation, I don't know if your plans include it, but if you are going to be doing that it is really important to work your cardio system. If a 1000 foot elevation gain over one mile or less doesn't pull your legs out from under you, doing it at altitude will. When I lived at sea level and was all kinds of fit and active just making it to the trailhead at around seven thousand feet would suck all of the wind out of me (and my ego). That of course was at the bottom
Stair, or equivalent, would be spot on training if you will be above the timberline because when most of those trails were built, unless you are boondocking it, there will be stairs cut into the stone and you will literally be climbing stairs at altitude. If you don't want to do that at the gym, find a tall building and run the stairs there, usually some sort of view and sense of accomplishment at the top. :)
Using a HR monitor for exertion training is great. I found an article at fitclimb.com (http://www.fitclimb.com/profiles/blogs/get-in-hiking-or) about this that includes some specific training schedules for cardio for hiking and a list of good relevant strength exercises. Have a peek. :curtain:
Have fun with it and let us know, if you are comfortable doing so, what hike you are going to do when you decide. It would be fun to follow along when you get to do it. :cheesy:

I had some. They were lost in my wrecked car before I moved. I have to get another set. I did feel the difference walking with them; strangely, it was in my inner thighs though...? I really just need to get back to where there is good hiking and let that suffice :)

Today I did my step/weights. Thanks to Kelt, I found some exercises recommended by backpackers for backpackers and incorporated them into my routine. I'm grateful that I'm doing the ab challenge since core strength is important in most things but especially if you're going to carry a heavy load.

Re: Free Motion
It's like a treadmill where you set a speed and then a range of inclines. Like yesterday I did a slow speed (3 mph) but with inclines ranging from 3 to 18.5. 18.5 feels like I am running up a very steep hill, and there are bars to grab onto if one panics. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night for a little while with my calves saying, "What were you thinking? We are used to the stair master." :D

A topic in which I can actually add something helpful.
It's best to have more than one pair of shoes and rotate them regularly. That way, your feet won't get the chance to settle and have the same pressure points thus increasing the chance of injury. Take your insert out and look at it. If you've been in those shoes for any length of time, you'll see that it's likely worn and completely formed to your feet.
If you have one or two pair of shoes but cannot afford another, invest in good performance insoles. Mine cost $19 a pair and that's from a small chain. I think that Walmart has them for less and they are Dr. Scholl's, which is good. Walmart stores typically have a Dr. Scholl's machine that you stand on and it will tell you which insole is best suited for your feet.
Make sure you are not choosing a shoe because of it's looks (I have to keep an eye on this because the 'pretty' shoes are never the ones suited to my particular issues and I'm totally Jonesing for a shoe with purple in it, but alas...it's not meant to be for now). For example, if you over pronate like I do, you need additional support at the sides and arches. A good way to tell if the shoe has enough support for this issue is to take the shoe in your hands, sideways, and push with your thumb on the side of the heel. Then push, with your thumb, on the middle/arch of the shoe. The middle support should be denser and firmer than the heel. If it's not, it doesn't have enough support for that issue.
If you don't know if you over or under pronate or are neutral, go to a runner's store. They will have you walk and run in front of them and can assess your style and what shoes would work best for you. Even if you don't buy your shoes there, most are an excellent source of information.
THIS (http://www.runningshoesforsale.net/over-pronation-running-shoes/) is a good link for information and lists of good shoe matches and there is a visual of what under and over pronation look like as well as neutral. There's not any part of my body that ever falls into a 'neutral' category, unfortunately.
I currently have 5 pairs of shoes, including the new ones I just bought and haven't broken in yet. That pair was referred to as 'the Cadillac' of shoes for over pronators like myself. I got them at 40% off, which is great because I would not have paid the original price for them. I've only paid over a hundred for one pair and I've had those for almost 2 years and have already disposed of the insert and moved on to performance insoles.
One thing to keep in mind is that you should, ideally, have a thumb's width between your toe and the edge of the shoe. If you, like me, fit shoes strangely and never quite exactly, go for the one with a little more space. That way, you will have enough room when you switch to insoles, as they lift the foot up and take up more room than the factory insoles, which are very, very thin even when brand new.
If you have wide feet or even feet like me (duck feet...wide at the toe and narrow at the heel), New Balance and Saucony have some really good options. If you don't, the Hell with you.

My living room is actually a mess since I'm preparing to move, so my exercise for the next few days is going to be packing boxes, lifting them, and carrying them downstairs!
At least I will be doing more stairs though...and with a heavy load!
Soon I will be back in the land of mountains and be hiking the hills...my butt really was feeling gooder when I was doing that nearly daily.
And the weighted pack was an excellent idea that I am going to employ. Thanks again Traumaqueen! :)

I will do stuff soonly and prolly squeeze in some yoga once the floor is clear(ish). I get grumpy when I don't do yoga....
Ohhh and upon conversation with my (potential) employers, they have tried "hot" yoga. And one of the girls is my shape and size. Although I feel oddly about doing yoga in public, until I HAVE that "yoga butt", I realize you can't get that butt without doing the yoga. It's like a friggin catch 22.
The girl that is shaped more like me said it's very non judgmental. But it's also a 90 minute class...and I only ever do 45 min- an hour at the most.
It's worth a try; there's a studio in Asheville that offers 30 days of yoga for 30 bucks. That's really a steal. I'm gonna suck it up and dig in methinks...plus I will be hiking again and doing low carb...hopefully I can get over this plateau from hell that I hit...

I have all of this week off from work and it was going to be a week of great work-outs so I'm bummed about that, but on the positive side, I can sleep in and get well more easily hopefully. I received a gift in the mail from one of the members of this thread (hint: T33), a My Little Pony Puzzle, which couldn't have arrived at a better time. Hi everyone,
It's been a very long time since I posted!
I am back in the lifting groove again for about two months now, and very happy about it.
Today I did compound exercises for my back and chest, using a horizontal row machine and a horizontal press machine.
Next, I did more back work with 3 sets of Bent Arm Pullovers.
I have been focusing on developing my shoulders. So I did 3 sets of Arnold Presses with 35 lbs and next, 3 sets of Arnold Presses with 40 lbs. I finished with 3 sets of In Back of the Head Military Presses with 40 lbs I like this one, because it hits the traps too!
After this, Skull Crushers for triceps, EZ curls for biceps, and finally the Tricep Dip machine set at 100 lbs
I find watching uTubes on different lifting techniques and reading about it on the web gets me motivated really well!

My gym visits were uneven the first half of the year. I'd go regularly and then fall off. Rinse, lather and repeat.
However, once my sciatica/SI joint flared up, I started going nearly every day for pain management. Those days that I could not make the gym in the morning before work, I walked around my neighborhood.
That's a lot of gym time. I decided to add everything from the flare up to now and see just how much has gone into the past 6 months.
Boy, howdy!
Taking strictly just the gym stats I posted.....not including my local walks or the weight training.....I've put in some pretty good effort.
In the last 6 months, I've burned (approximately) 24,826 calories, walked/ran 219.76 miles and used 4122 minutes of my time wisely. That's 7.093 pounds, 8.39 marathons and 68.7 hours.
Wow.
Go me.

My first 2015 workout happened in a packed gym. I can't say it wasn't unexpected, especially since I didn't get there until around 10am.
I was sandwiched in but I got on T34 and gave my best shot at it. I did pretty well!
T34, random program, level 9
Stats: 436 cal, 3.46 mi, 65:00 min
Intervals: 3 @ 60 sec @ 5.4 mph @ .5 incline
Between levels 8 and 9 is when the control line changes. Levels 1-8, the base level is 0. Starting with level 9, the incline increases with each level for the base level. I can't go any further than level 9 and do the running intervals due to the strain of speed and intensity of the incline. My body says no.
I did make my three main goals today.
1. At least one hour on the treadmill
2. At least 400 calories burned (approximately)
3. At least 3 miles covered (I've got to say that this is probably quite accurate, regardless of the machine's margin of error.)
AND
I made them BEFORE the cool down started. It feels like cheating to me if I use the cool down as a continuation of the workout instead of as the time for my body to downshift and relax.
I also did lower body conditioning. Maybe about a half hour's worth.
Then I took a mat and did some stretches, including something my PT wanted me to work on. Balance things are hard when one side of the body is weaker than the other. At least significantly so. But I did okay. Not great and I didn't have a mirror there to correct my form but the effort was put in and that counts.

:glasses: Well, I'm that weirdo too. All the apps and syncing seems like a lot of extra work to me when I have my own little system worked out. I wear a chest strap for cardio but that is just so that the onboard information from the device I get is accurate. I scribble down my weights and only record the top weight I hit on each apparatus, I know that I do four sets of ten and the last set is my high number. I have a super simple little spreadsheet recording system and as long as that one number keeps going up over time I'm happy. It's too easy for me to get wound up in minutia, so that way I'm still tracking (which makes all the difference) but I'm only tracking results for the most part and not giving up a whole lot of data to some company that might decide someday to sell it to insurance companies, if they aren't already.
:theisland: Today is a bittersweet one for me. I miss the beach and all my peeps and workout buddies from there something fierce. This morning several of them were out on the beach at the same time and apparently got talking about me. They gathered around one of their phones and called me for a Happy New Year catch up. Damn near made me cry. It was so good to hear from my friends and hear the wind and the birds in the background, they all told me about the changes in the beach (it's always changing and I was sort of the go-to for biology updates)and it was almost as good as being there. A couple of the park rangers joined in too. I got a good 90 minute fix and I'm calling that my workout today.(Emotionally anyway)
:anothersnowman: Actually, I'm pulling on my woolies right now and heading out into 18 degree weather with little snow flurries and will do about three miles along the river. It is amazingly beautiful in the snow and I just have to get used to a new "beach". It's good and I'll have a go at the gym tomorrow with who knows how many people. I'm a week away from some hip stuff medically speaking, so I'll go light, but it looks like I'm not broken so no excuse.

Intervals: 1 @ 90 sec, 5 @ 60 sec and all @ 5.4 mph, 0 incline
The intervals were HARD today. I didn't sleep well last night and I went to be late so I needed every minute. I think some of my dinner from last night might have been hanging around still. I felt sluggish and weighted down for most of the workout.

I am sure I would have run 10 miles today if I wasn't sick in bed. Bummer.
Well what do you know, the gym bought me the perfect prezzie while I stepped out for a bit. It's super cool and exactly what I want. :cheesy:
Can I do it right now? No, but what a treat to work up to. Today I went in for standard issue cardio for 40 mins at target heart rate which for me is 137. That worked out to 500 cals and 2 miles per hour. Now all I have to do is plug in time and let the spread sheet do the rest; as long as I use the cardio program on any of the toys I will be able to determine progress by seeing how many "bars" of resistance is being used to keep me there. I can now achieve my goal with 1-2 bars.  Oh well, at least there is plenty of room for improvement.
For the next 4-6 weeks I'm going to keep doing what I started a bit back. The good news is that missing time didn't cost me any gains in strength, I picked up with the exact same workout and weights though I might be a touch sore tomorrow it was fine.
Keeping in mind my PT, I've been doing;
Abductor (modify the position on this for PT)
Adductor
Glute kick backs
Hanging leg raises
Chest press
Lat pull downs Leg press
+PT at home
+walk outside for 2-3 miles
Most of this is "girly" exercise (to me) which I've spent most of my life avoiding and turns out they bite back when you ignore them. So now I do them. Core rules.
NOW I get to add playtime at the end which I did today to get acquainted with my new best friend. :cheer::cheer:
The basic setup: (nevermind, per usual this site won't accept images today)
SO: I found a video out of Mexico that shows some of the variety of things you can do. It seems like this is timed class of some sort, in my gym the apparatus is just there for anyone to use as they wish. There are a lot of things you could do for crossfit and full TRX stations along with a huge assortment of resistance bands and untold ways to hook them up. Now I can do all of my PT here. :cheesy:

Anyone who has ever bounced a ball off of a wall (me) will love the bouncing medicine ball station. I played with that for 100 bounces and other than the one that nearly got away and could easily have broken my nose, is hella fun. The woman in the video is chicken.

I'm glad you're feeling better, it's remarkable how missing regular activity can impact us. BTW, I didn't mention it earlier, but I am TOTALLY impressed with your mean average of 45 mins. That is one heck of an acheivement. :cheesy:
Anyone who can do a proper TABATA and not drop dead has my total respect. Jest sayin'
Today was pretty much a rinse and repeat of yesterday with a couple of tweaks. I have mixed feelings about the glute aperatus that ends up as a sort of donkey kick. My knee and low back aren't sure. I may switch back to a good old Hamtractor (if I can find it). Doesn't do the same job, but close with back protection.
The other thing was that I added more playtime at the end on the new contraption. I like the bouncy thing with the medicine ball A LOT and had fun there, I do anticipate at some point breaking my face with it though. Then I tried out a few things on the TRX straps, I've seen them for years but never had them to try out.
I'll be over on the machines getting stronger before spending too much time there. It is good for inverted rows though which may lead one day to the elusive pull-ups. :cheesy:

I did minimal cardio because of this and I got squished...forget sandwiched....SQUISHED, I tell you!....on a new to me treadmill, which is not an altogether bad thing. It's just not under a fan, sadly. Slow moving or not, they shift the air around so I can mentally talk myself into thinking it's cooler than it is.

Did you see what I did there? Didja? Didja?
I followed that by going into the ONLY cool area in the place and doing circuit training. Upper body since it's been so long. Now that my neck is feeling better, I feel comfortable getting back into it. Yay!
Afterwards, I headed back to the very back and pulled a mat out and went to Stretch Town. I even did some PT stretches and exercises and some ab work with a round barbell weight.
It was a really good workout but I am going to get to the gym earlier tomorrow so I can nab a better location for my cardio and then I'll likely do some lower body circuit training as well.
I'd like to talk about cravings. Totally not at all because I'm giving in to one RIGHT NOW. Nope, not at all.
:innocent:
So, anyway. I've been craving fries for a few days and I gave in a few days ago but the craving came back and has stuck around. I decided to give into it today (that it was a rational decision versus a spur of the moment thing makes it better, right?) and am now eating a small chili and a medium fry. Well, I'm done with the chili but not the fries and I'm debating whether to toss the remaining ones or finish it all. Decisions, decisions! I made it better by pairing them with 2% shredded cheese and fresh blueberries and low fat chocolate milk. That makes it okay, right?
:cheesy:
I did end up going to the gym today. 30 mins on the stationary bike at a random program kept the level lower however. Then a short circuit of the weight machines only 2 sets of 10 and lower weight then I would normally. Finished off with 15 mins on the Arc Trainer. All told I spent a hour and 15 there not to bad and I feel pretty:sunglass: good [/I]

Great day at the gym today. 1 hour Free Motion treadmill (3mph, 3 to 18.5 incline, intervals). I have one gripe with it. I see a "stop" button but not a "pause" button. Is it able to be paused? Then 30 min. stair master (moderate intervals- well, it calls it moderate intervals but I find it to be "intense"). Then 1 hour of weight lifting, ab exercises, yoga, and stretching.

Another good gym day. Stairmaster: 1 hour (intervals 3-12); floor exercises and weight lifting: 1 hour.
I had a tense interaction with a gym member I don't do well with* and that got my heart beating fast and made the weight lifting easier. It's nice that unpleasant interactions have the side effect of putting the body into a mode where exercising is easier. It's the body preparing for a fight.
*He and I both like to lift the same pair of 20 pound free weights (aka the only ones), and in these cases it would be preferable to share in a neighborly way but I can't seem to work that out with him. It gives me more motivation to get myself up to the 25 pound free weights so that we don't have to deal with each other at all!

Good morning, exercisers!
Interesting night. I went to bed early as I want to take better care of myself and get a full 8 hours when I can but my body is so used to 'work day' sleep that it took me forever to get to sleep and then I awoke early. I did try to get back to sleep but failed. End result? I slept the normal amount of time I normally do. Bah. I have to work on that, especially since I have to get up at 4am tomorrow to work out and go to PT before work.
Here's my stuff:

Well, the bad news is that my river trail has closed for most of the rest of the year so I’m down to the gym for now. I’m going to miss it and have to find a replacement.
So I’m trying to determine the best cardio for me. Nevermind, I need a project. It’s kind of interesting to try the different machines with an unconnected heart rate monitor and realize the differences in “perceived effort”. I ran across the term when checking out the Arc trainer and decided to do some tests. So far I’ve done the elliptical, stairmaster, and both upright and recumbent bikes. I’ve held out on the treadmill because I’m such a klutz I’m pretty sure I’d fall off the back.
So far the stairmaster has the record for getting my heartrate into my target zone the fastest at under 5 minutes, followed by the elliptical at 6-8 minutes. The weird thing is that on the upright bike it took 20 minutes and I was sweating like a dog and on the recumbent I can’t even get there. The limiting factor seems to be leg strength, but I’m really surprised at what a difference just being upright makes over being seated. I’m not using arms on anything so that will probably push the elliptical up although I haven’t done the Arc on my little test yet or the treadmill. The stairmaster tricked me. I have run up and down stairs a lot, I used to be faster than elevators, and until recently lived in a third floor walk-up. I’ll tell you what; having the stairs move under me instead of me moving on fixed stairs takes the prize for me feeling like I’m gonna fall off, that’s for sure.
I wish there were still cross country ski trainers, it would be an interesting comparison. I used to have one way back when and it would kick my butt regularly. Tomorrow I’ll time the Arc and see how fast my HR goes up and see if I can get a winner for most efficient cardio workout by which gets my HR going fastest while killing me the least. :cheesy:

My friend Teresa and I have been killing it at the gym! Officially down 10lbs since December. I have 11 more lbs to hit my first goal. :)
Totally was not able to get to the gym today BUT I hit 1300 step and most of that was while wearing 25 pound of equipment around my waist. It was a long shift at work and I have gotten held over so I am actually still here. Tomorrow looks to be a better chance to get to the gym but today was just flat out crazy and after getting off at 2am Monday morning I had been going since 630am. However today is a new day and I am one motivated Guy

Hey, somebody’s gotta do it.
Kelt, I assume it is adding your body weight to the mix on the steps and elliptical that makes the difference. It is not the same on the bicycles. You have to start working harder right away. The stairs more than the elliptical. That is why it is the winner (I think I am making this whole thing up, but it sounds logical).
I have never liked the stairs because it isn't sustainable for me. I don't like the treadmill because the arches in my feet hurt and my arms aren't getting any resistance. The bike just doesn't get up the heart rate and I burn less calories (plus, again, no workout for the arms). We don't have an Arc at my gym, so it is the elliptical for me. I'm happy with it.

Spot on, it is the increased body weight for the actual HR. I'm certain that the perception of effort on the bikes is because that set of muscles isn't used to being used that way. Using the weak set makes it feel harder, when the cardio reality is different (for me).
It's that bit about perception I found to be interesting. I also know a really good way to strengthen my quads and lower legs now. :cheesy: Just get on a bike.
Now I'm just going to do the battle of the elliptical and the Arc to see which wins. I'm struggling to sustain my attention in a gym, I gotta make it a wager or something with myself.
I was tired last night that was 13000 yikes and why and I up now oh yeah pups needed to go out ugg
I plan on going to the gym after my shift tonight just going to hit the 30 min circuit after doing the Arc Trainer to warm up I would normally do the Recumbent Bike but darn you Dapper you have me reconsidering.. Anyway at least there will not be to many people there at 2am right!!!

My PT doc says it allows for poor mechanics and she stressed STRONGLY that I stick with the elliptical or the bike, either recumbent or upright.
Well, damn.

She also wants me to get an MRI. Now, I'm back to that. She's changing her diagnosis too. She thinks it's my hip and not my SI joint now.

She also poked the CRAP out of me this morning. I am very surprised that I don't have more fingerprint bruises.

I've been in a cycle of not catching up on my sleep and thus not exercising. It's frustrating. I do well on the weekends and then once the work week starts, I fall apart. Work has been extra busy and the weather has been cold, so I just need to be mentally stronger and stick to better routines. Easier said than done.
I'm not so crazy about the treadmill because it jars my back and feels like too much shock. I don't like to do it every day. I like the stair master because ironically it does not put much pressure on my knees. I hold the sides which takes away all the gravitational pressure and shock, and yet still I can get my heart rate high easily. I find it much more difficult than stair climbing (which I also enjoy) because one can adjust one's pace even unconsciously unlike on a machine where the stairs do not ease up! It gives me a very challenging work-out every time unlike the other machines. I love it!

So I seem to be struggling to hit my 10 steps during the work week too. I work a desk job and just don't get many opportunities to walk around unless I am walking to and from someone's desk to answer a question. I use my 15 minute breaks to go for walks though at least. I think I am going to have to start using the gym 3 days a week to offset the lack of walking.

Well after hitting 12000 steps before Midnight, I did get to the gym after shift and did 20 mins on the elliptical then the 30 min circuit and ended with some Squats I think that is enough. was there for a hour and by the end I was the only one there besides employes. Dear Diary,
I have agreed to give up my beloved treadmill. For a week.
I used the elliptical for half an hour this morning and experienced less than desirable effects. Good news: my hip does feel better. Bad news: now my calf, hamstring, nerve behind the knee and the right side of my knee are raising their voices in protest.
Stats: 250 cal, 1.79 mi, 30:00 min
E21, random program, level 3
At the 6 minute mark, my feet started to burn. My feet repeatedly slipped and I had to continually adjust to make sure they were evenly placed on either foot hold. Then there was the stinging pain at the nerve behind my knee. It. Was. Not. Happy.
*sigh*
I didn't work up a good sweat and Kelt has already posted something eons ago about ellipticals being up to 41% off in their calculations (more than any other piece of equipment, if memory serves me well), so I know I can't trust the numbers shown.
I would be willing to add this to my routine but still use the treadmill most often. I like it. I like walking. I like hiking (outside of nature and the bugs and heat that come with that). I do not like aimlessly wandering in air.
No likey!
Tomorrow I will try the bike.

It's heard to change surfaces, no doubt. My feet go numb at about 15-20 minutes, I'm not 100% sure why but I think for me it's because my feet stay in contact and therefore don't flex enough to keep good circulation. It could be my imagination though because it doesn't happen on a bike.
It's not just ellipticals that are off, it's all of them that use HR in their calculations if it is based on the built in grip-style monitors, the sensors need to be re-calibrated regularly and rarely are. Combine that with not being in contact at all times and there is your margin of error. That's why I wear a chest strap that 'talks' to the internal sensor, it's consistent across devices and platforms. If it doesn't have a HR input then it's mostly guessing at your effort level and using an algorithm with age/weight, and time/distance.
For me the bike is the hardest to generate enough effort for reasons Dapper brought up. Tell us how that works out for you, I'd like to see the comparison.

Using the elliptical last night I worked up a more sweat then I normally do with 30 mins on the recumbent bike. After 20 mins I was dripping. I had wanted to do the Arc trainer but I think I need to work up to it I was actually surprised that I liked the elliptical as much as I did but I would prefer the bike or the treadmill. However I kind of want to get the most of of my time as I can. I walk a lot at work hit 10 thousand steps pretty much every day and I have 25 pounds of equipment that I have on. Started taking the stairs when I am responding to calls in the buildings unless it is in the one resident hall that has 19 floors then uh no.

I get the numbness right before the burn. Same thing for me; it's better with the treadmill and the bike. The pressure on the bottom of the feet is less consistent with them.
I didn't say the elliptical was the only one who's calculations are off. I said it was the one that was off by the most if I remembered right.
These machines aren't new to me. I'm just irritated that my PT doctor, who is a baby, might know my body more than I do and I've been inside of it for 40 years now.

Since you cross posted this, I'm going to cross post THIS:
First thing, congratulations!!! Two is good. Two is healthy. Steady changes makes for steady weight loss and general better state of mind and body.
Second thing, I've watched enough The Biggest Loser to know that once folks get close to their goal/healthy weight, they slow down. If your coworker is already thin, she's not going to keep up 5 lbs a week and she shouldn't. That's not healthy. In all honesty, she's probably giving something up for that be it taking supplements that may hurt her overall health or time from her family if she's working out 2 hours/day, et cetera. She has heard the same societal bullshit you've heard all your life. Thin = beautiful. Thin = happy. Thin = sexy beau. Thin = self acceptance and self love. Thin = all your problems go away at the end of the Disney movie. My semi-educated guess is that she is striving for one or more of those things.
Third thing, do NOT let someone else's wins/losses define YOU. You are a beautiful, unique creature and only you can compare with yourself.
Fourth thing, I want you to win the dough but I want you to feel better first. You are doing so good and making changes that will have a butterfly effect later. I am super proud of you and you should be too.
Fifth thing, I have a thing with even versus odd numbers and just didn't want to leave it on an even one. Ha! How's that for neurosis?!?
Although, truth be told, I think alla y'all are nutso for beans with the coffee thing. I love the smell of it but once it's brewed, you can chuck it. Seriously. Coffee craziness makes people do things like pay $300 for a coffee maker and use beans that critters have eaten and shat out. If that's your thing, give me some beans and if you pay me enough, I'll get them back to you post digestion.
Now, the coffee part was designated for the :| thread participants but some of you come in here and some of you who come in here drink coffee so I am covering my bases in case someone wants to take me up on my offer.

I slept most of it away.
Oooopsie.
I needed it though.
I don't think I'll be hitting the gym today but I do think I'm going to give a yoga video a try and I will be running errands shortly. Tomorrow will be a long day at the gym.
I came across a simple recipe for meatloaf that didn't involve egg and does involve salsa. I just have to find it again. I think I'll give it a shot. I have some of the red stuff and also some of the red stuff and some Panko breadcrumbs.
Usually my loaf comes in gobble gobble form with bbq sauce, onions, mushrooms and bell peppers in it (it's DIVINE, I tell you!) but this could work too.
I just have to omit the ketchup. I think hot ketchup is nasty and refuse to have ketchup skin all over the top of what could be really good loaf.
I got lots of sleep last night and seem to be a bit hyper as a result. Is it showing?

Happy to have a three day weekend and do some catching up at the gym (Yes, I know one can't really catch up, but for me it's better than not trying). First I did one hour on the Free Motion Treadmill. I did an 18 uphill incline at 3.5 and alternated every 15 seconds between holding the top bars and jogging (without holding onto anything). It was a moderate work-out. Then I did 30 minutes on the stair master, intervals at "moderate intensity" except for me it is always intense- which I love! Then I did 30 minutes on the Arc Trainer at 100 resistance and holding 2.5 jelly weights which I moved in a jogging style motion alternating with holding them up like a zombie for 15 seconds (That is a great way to keep the heart rate up). It was a rather low intensity work-out but happy to be mixing it up anyway. Then I did a combined hour of weight lifting, ab exercises, yoga, tai chi, and stretching. I hung out most of the day with my friend, Marilyn. She told me in one of my poses that I was to hold my head high, not down. I said, "But it's hard to balance." She said, "No it isn't. Your head weighs 10 pounds" (meant as a general statement). She was right.

I went to the gym today. Well first I went to the store for Karo syrup 'cause Ami is making sweet treats, then I needed a new battery for my tracker, get home grab the bag and head out the door in the car, down the street and  forgot the soap. Turn around drive back get the soap, out the door put soap in bag and back to the gym, get there and in the locker room get snow boots off, and  forgot my gym shoes. Said fuck it and swam for a half hour. Got home to sweet treats. Maybe tomorrow I'll remember my brain.... don't hold your breath it's a losing proposition....

Today I walked outside. Maybe not the best decision... It was so blustery I had to lean into the wind to make any progress. :|
I think I should get to count double the calories as usual due to the extra effort!
I probably should have walked indoors but I get so bored when I walk indoors. And it was good to be in the fresh (freezing my lungs) air and sunshine. :cold:

Had an early morning swim to a sand bar approximately .5 miles out. Cross winds at 15 to 20 knots, it truly kicked my ass! I am built like a tank, very dense so sinking is truly an option. lol But I did it! Not a strong swimmer so an accomplishment for me. Oh, did I mention it took 3 hours? I keed.
Here is how I felt, like this bloke afterwards.

I spent the bulk of the workout on circuit training. I went through ALL of my machines but kept it loose and light. 2 sets. 1 with 12 reps and 1 with 10 reps. So everything from my toes to the top of my head got stretched and pulled a little.
I finished up with light ab work on the mat and my PT exercise and some stretching. Yesterday I bought some bands and a core something or other that's designed for yoga but will help me with my PT so I got it. Later today, I have a date with my hamstrings. Both the physical therapist and the intern that filled in for her the day she got her house (it's her first! the first is always so exciting.) remarked on how tight my quads and hamstrings are. Especially the hammies, so I will work on stretching them out while I watch a movie later tonight.

I had a wonderful work-out today. I basically spent the day at the gym, including hanging out with some of my always-at-the-gym pals, Barbra and Lakisha. Snacks were had and lots of intense exercise. Blissful day.
First I did the Free Motion treadmill, 1 hour, 4 mph with an uphill incline that I decreased by 3 every fifteen minutes starting from 12. Yesterday I had done 18 and that had made my calves too tight so this was much better. I also liked the feel of the work-out getting progressively easier!
Then I did 30 minutes on the stair master, intervals, followed by 30 minutes on the upright bike.
Then I did a combined hour of weight lifting, lots of ab work, leg weights, and tons of stretching! I love how well I sleep after a day like today.
Got in hella steps today 14000 before midnight and I will still have 2 more hours of my shift and I am training a officer on the Quad and there are a lot of building to go through. Now this week I have to make up for my slack over the weekend but I am giving myself a break cause it was my birthday after all.

I've been going in each day, there just hasn't been much to tell.
I'm using the elliptical on average 45 min a day. The intent is to do 20 at cardio HR which for me is 137, then of course (because I do it to myself) I find myself in front of a screen where they are doing a building redo on something historical and I have to see how it turns out.
I've been getting cardio headaches which has never happened until I moved. I've been giving credit to humidity levels but a couple of days ago I looked it up and found out I need more water. Who knew ? So, I drink two large glasses before I go and another during and that seems to do the trick.
I've had to stop some of the resistance exercises, specifically some of my PT because it aggravates the heck out of my weak hip. Since I need to be doing it for my back I'm in one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't situations.
Carry on

I have lost considerable weight over the past year with the type of exercise I expend at work, which primarily consists of random, spur-of-the-moment episodes of either walking hurriedly to breaking out in a dead run or lazily sashaying myself around campus at work.
It's a tiring process but I think the quirkiness of my bouts of exercise has aided in my loss of weight, as well as making every bone in my body (seemingly), hurt.
Outside of my usual daily activities, I dont think I will miss the strenuous exercise I have endured, but will definitely need to come up with an exercise plan, once my job ends this month.
I am looking forward to summer when I can resume taking in some relaxing moments at the pool or down by the river.

So yesterday, we tried something a little different to get our exercise in. We went to a place called Rockin Jump. It is basically an indoor trampoline park. We jumped and we jumped and we jumped, for an hour. Man I sure feel it in my knees today, but what an awesome workout.
Today is a rest day, aside from some walking, tomorrow we start our gym routine and training to run a 5k.
30 minutes on the Elliptical at our house then went to the basement and lifted for another 30. I wanted to get to the gym in the morning but I have a early DR apt so it will be Tuesday after work. Hope to get in at least 10000 steps here at work and that should not be a hard goal to reach

Anytime anyone gets a headache, the first plan of attack should be drinking water. Most of us walk around dehydrated and water helps to release the constriction of the blood vessels, making it allllll better.

Most gyms Ive been have that system. They also keep ypir keys. I think its a good way to keep a tally of people in a given place. In case of fire god forbid...
Today....another 4 hr house and an abbreviated walk after. I apparently twisted my ankle a bit while hiking yesterday...oops :(
Today I sort of doubled up since tomorrow will be a day off.
Elliptical at cardio HR/137 for 30 mins
Switched to recumbent bike for fat burn HR/111 45 mins afterwards as a cool down do more kind of thing.
There was guy two bikes over that changed my mind about what you can do on a recumbent bike. He was doing wicked HIIT for an hour to the point where he had to get off for a quick minute at about his 45 min mark so that he could pull the whole friggin bike back into place. Yeah, heavy commercial bike, non-skid rubber/composite floor and he was going at it so hard it had crept it back about 2 1/2 feet until it was up against the elliptical behind him.
I had to ask, and he was really friendly, was he training for a distance cycle event? (Loads of cyclists here) or a triathlon or what? Nope. Wildfire fighter. He isn't into any sports per se but has to train that hard for work, which I totally believe. I asked about his method and he just sets it on level 10 and then does intervals of 1 minute at a time of 100 rpms with his slower sections at 60 rpms, and he did a LOT. All on level 10 just manipulating the speed. I'm thinkin' this might even challenge Gemme.

Corkey's right. Don't stress. This is a marathon not a sprint.
You'll have one great week, one eh week, one great week, one eh week....et cetera.
The important thing is that you are doing something to get healthier. If you feel as if you are getting to a plateau, shake things up. The body becomes very accustomed to movement if done repeatedly.
Oh and watch your sugar intake. It's in everything from ketchup to soda to spaghetti sauce, et cetera.

Thanks y'all for the encouragement and reminders not to get so obsessive about this. I processed some at my Overeaters Anonymous meeting tonight and that helped to get my mind back on the health benefits versus the competition. Competition can help keep me motivated but it can also get me focused on the wrong things. For me the hardest thing in the world is finding balance - I have an "extremes" nature.

Whataya know? The ole hip is doing okay now. 2 hours of shoveling and cursing Mother Nature seemed to help which is good because I'm going to have to get back out there in a couple of hours and do it again. The one thing in our favor is that it is light, dry and fluffy snow. If it were wet, we'd have a lot more power outages and power lines down. Of course, 100 lbs of snow is still 100 lbs of snow and it doesn't matter if it's soft and dry or not.

I think it really depends on the yoga video you choose cause some I have hated and others I enjoyed. I get mine from the library so I can try out a variety. I have zero flexibility so sometimes I just watch parts of the videos in disbelief!
Yesterday I played guinea pig with my Dr and after giving me something I had to go hit the trails and see how long it took me to kill myself. They call it a 'pain trial'. It was a sunny day, so I took the bus to the library as Ami needs the car to get to work. I was back before she left, good timing. Excersize was shivering in the 18* weather at the bus stops. Burrrrr.

Ohmygoodness, exercisers!
Clearly, I had some moments today when I thought I was a machine and I overexerted myself shoveling everything that wasn't tied down.
BUT
A lot got done and now there's a CAT machine sitting in front of one of my buildings because I finally told the account manager of my snow removal company that I wouldn't care how busy he was if one of my customers fell and sued us. It's slippery as snot out there today. I slipped and skidded a few times, but no falls were had!
I'll put that towards 'core work'.

Had mah silkies on, boots and gloves with inner liners, hat, and thermal LLBean coat. I was nicentoasty when moving, notsomuch standing in a foot of snowmounds..... It was that kind of day.:glasses: ETA, it was 1* when I woke up.....
Another great Hike in the beauty that is Upstate NY went out to the Erie Canal state park and hiked along the Canal. I did 8 miles at a very good pace :| plus my squats this morning made for a good day. It was cold out but I layered up by the time I got done with my hike I was soaked and beat I think it is going to be a much shorter hike tomorrow :rrose:
I'm pretty excited that this time next week I may be able to start *real* resistance workouts, like the go for it variety instead of the treading cautiously kind.
For today I did my 90 on the bike at HR and spent a little time with the hydro massager. :)

Resistance workouts aren't all that they cracked up to be. I've met a LOT of resistance with the hundreds of pounds of snow I have shoveled in the past 3 days.
ba dum BUM
Well, I'll say this for that...
Going to a gym loaded with screens and getting sucked into something makes you work out longer. 2 hours on the bike at HR.
