....ending my long, sometimes frustrating, workday on a positive note that my advocacy work and inter-department relationships accomplished organizing two state agencies who finally agreed to "petition the court on behalf of" a young sister that needs custody of her teen-age siblings.... I can't give more details here, but it felt good that after she has fought for several years and got no-where, that we finally (after I pushed and insisted) got somewhere. Hearing the relief in her voice and how happy she was really made my day. :goodluck:

My motto below ..."don't let anyone pluck your feathers!"....really fits today's scenario!!

I am thankful for the life I have been able to forge for myself after my divorce. Just remarried, after seven years, to my best friend, and I couldn't be happier. We have each other, so we have everything. A drive in the country on a Saturday afternoon feels like we're rich. I'm thankful that I finally had the insight to move on from a life of constraint and sadness. Every time I am around my ex-husband, and I see him interact with my daughters or his new wife, I realize that I saved my own life by leaving that situation. Now I feel solidly centered in my own life, with a true partner, and for the first time in my 51 years, I am starting to actually feel like an adult.

I am so very thankful for my health. Last year I was sick for over three months. It is more important to me then money, or pretty much anything in this world. Last year I was stuck in bed for so long I will never take my health for granted again.

I am grateful for living in a place that will be my forever home and never have to move again. It belongs to us, and I am so thankful to be part of the us. No one can tell us what to do, I love it!

that I currently have a job, even if it's not the best fit or the best income...and that it's allowed me to work and network with some AMAZING Social Workers and Caseworkers from Social Services and Children and Youth. They truly do care about the kids they take care of and the families they help.

Right now though, i am very thankful for ice cold water, cause i'm really thirsty tonight. Sometimes it is very humbling to give thanks for the simplest things in our lives. Things that are so pure and non pretentious and satisfying.

That probably sounds totally weird. lol.

But...

I am feeling completely overwhelmed right now, so now is the perfect time to remind myself of all the things I have to be grateful and thankful for:

My family. They are my rock and my sunshine. I wouldn't have made it this far without them! And this includes my animal family.

My job. I swear I have the best boss ever. He supports my academic endeavors as well as my professional pursuits and is always open to different work options that allow me to meet both of these goals to the best of my ability.

My health. Someone said to me recently that I was never this sick when they knew me and it really hurt my feelings. I've experienced things this year, with regard to my body, that I never have before in my life and I feel that it has only made me stronger and more in touch with what a blessing it is to have and to maintain one's good health. And I know it won't be like this forever!

All the little things like my car, home, dependable shoes, my education. I see a young man and his little girl waiting at the bus stop each morning as I drive my girls to school. Then we pass him again as he gets off the bus and walks his daughter into the same school my oldest goes to. He has his own lunch box under his arm and I imagine he's off to work himself. He's always there to greet his little girl after school and then off they go again, headed for the bus stop. They chit-chat the whole way and it almost makes me well up with tears. Oh, the things we do for our children and the people we love. Such a treasure!

im so grateful today i have the huge ass turkey in d oven, stuffed even, already, sweet taters cut and real butter on em, 5 lbs of white taters in their pan and green beans with onions my daughters r here safe and out of the street . they r healthy as oxen ! u know i think God everyday that i havent had to spend all my days in the hospital with a sick child , if u think of it its a miracle actually ! they r mouthy and sassy ! i mean their the kind of girls u dont want to cross with bullshit they will call u on it !! lol ! they know their rights and will stand strong! the bond between us is thick ! i have had lots of troubles with them on and off doing it alone being dad but its made us stronger ! im not the best writter but im writting lol ! ima extremely visual person ! i love the fine arts of all types ! i am very grateful for this passion ! im grateful for the roof over my head that im able to pay my bills and eat lol ! i do mission work like the clothes closet and soup kitchen i have worked with the mentally handicapped and addicts as well ! i think im most grateful for that i must say it fills my heart with joy and i just know its right ! my little crew here sends u the warmest gestures for a great thanksgiving !!!

Today as I reflect on the last year, I have a lot to be thankful for.
I started a new chapter in my life that includes a job and a place to live that my rescues and I can call home.
I have friends that care about me and my well being.
I have my health and the gumption to keep going every day.
To that I say, Happy Thanksgiving and bless you all.

To add to this,
I am thankful to have had and used a set of crystal dishes every year for thanksgiving that my eldest has always cherished and as i pulled the "pitcher" down to give to her today all the memories of thanksgiving pasts came flooding back and im a little torn up however i know that it is time for her to have this set of dishes because she remembers all the holidays with them,,,it is now time for her to have memories with her girls and these dishes her momma loved so much.

she darn near broke the pitcher some 13-14 years ago when her arm accidentally hit it knocking it over causing juice to flood my beautiful decorated lace table ill never forget the tears in her eyes as i calmly told her it was all right and then i giggled ...cleaned up the mes made a new pitcher of juice and we all sat down to eat...all these years later that pitcher is rightfully hers even if it is tugging at me a bit ...

I sit here today, as on Thanksgiving for the last 4 years, remembering my Dad. My nephew posted on his FB that he was thankful for a life of adventure and that he hadn't been shot by any jealous husbands this year. It made me smile. I am thankful that aside from myself, my nephew carries my father's true spirit within him.

I am also thankful for my new job. In this economy to have a job is a blessing, to be able to get a better job is a miracle. So I am sooooo thankful for my new job.

I am thankful for the wonderful people and children that have touched my heart at my old job and made me a better person this year. Some are no longer here and I hope their families are rejoicing in the time they did have and are still thankful for memories. (I'm pretty sure they are because they are just those kind of wonderful, loving folks.) I am super thankful for A.B.'s new heart and for the kids that are HOME celebrating this holiday with their family.

I am abundantly thankful for my wonderful son. His health, his brain, his caring, his sense of humor....hell even his dirty dishes in the sink todaybut today only, I'll be bitchin' in my head about it again tomorrow.

I am thankful for good, healthy, organic food in my fridge. A warm cute roof over our head. This community and website (and especially its founders). My friends.

My father used to say that he was the luckiest man he knew. I have to agree and say, I am one of the luckiest people I know. When I get to be 94, like he was, I'm sure I'll say I am THE luckiest as well. :)

It has been 6 years now without my Dad, and since I lost him from my life, I admit I feel like I have had nothing to give thanks for.....until now.

This year, I am so very thankful bc I have Guy in my life. He has brought the joy into my life that has been missing. The love that I have have never had. The new outlook on my life that I have been searching for. I thank God everyday for bringing such a truly wondeful, loving, caring, amazing partner/best friend/Daddy into my life.

I am thankful that I still have my crazy ass sister who can't cook a turkey to save herself, but she sure tries.

I am thankful to have a mom and sister who sat and cried at EVERY subject we talked about bc they brought it all back to missing me when I move

I am thankful for my wonderful nephew, Brandon. Who is becoming the most amazing man. His Papa would be so very proud, as I am, of the wonderful young man he is.

I am thankful for my friends and work family that I have become so very close to. And even though it hurts to say goodbye to them next month, I know they will always love and support me bc they know I am the happiest I have ever been

I am thankful for my furkids..ALL of them. There 4 little amazing wet noses will all be under one roof soon and we can finally be a family. My blue eyed dragon will be making the transport to Florida in the spring once I find him a suitable stable... and then we will all be together forever.

I am thankful for all the life lessons God has handed me so that I have learned to cherish the gifts I have now been given.

I'm thankful that my dad was able to have Thanksgiving lunch out today with my family at Golden Corral. That's right, we went out to lunch, and I left a very nice tip for the waitress. No mess to clean up. The best part was good conversation. I just wish my mom had felt like coming out with us as well.

I am so grateful for having internet...I dont know how my life would be without it. Sometimes I am so housebound for days on end and the internet is my only contact with the world outside my door. And, it has helped me research and discover so many wonderful things this year. I havent forgotten what it was like before the internet...when there was barely a way to find others, or to get information, or to connect somehow with people you never would have met. When i think about who wouldnt be in my life right now, without the internet, I shiver...

I can still have and feel emotions. I can have conversations with people. I can still recognize the people in my life that I love, and mean so very much to me.

I am extremely thankful that my contract for my cell phone is up in 2.5 weeks, and I am not renewing it. I am choosing to live cell phone free.
I do not need to be connected 100% of the day to everyone in my life.
This is a liberating decission for me.
I never made it past a basic phone, so there is no iphone or Droid detox needed!

*refreshing breath* I feel better already!

I am thankful I made it through another month of paying the bills, feeding the rescues and myself, an ex that has been there when I really needed help, a pt job because it could be worse without one at all, my BFP family and my chosen family...oh and my youngest niece who stood her ground to stay where she was at, so she could graduate HS. She just turned 18 yesterday and graduation is in May, so yay for her and the guardian that took her in to make it happen.

that she is able to drive down almost every weekend and we can have some quality time..we are enjoying exploring the island..seeing all the neat little shops, seeing the abundance of thrift stores.....and having some quality time. We sat with a huge local made bag of popcorn last night, surfed web, cleaned up my laptop, and just enjoyed being in the moment...we are able to be so high, so giddy, and so heady..just being in the moment.....and it is precisely THOSE moments that are priceless...we have such fun dates.
Yesterday we had lunch at Applebee's, went shopping, found a huge, new Goodwill store, and then enjoyed a frozen treat at the Sonic Drive In. It rained heavily all day long...BUT we made the sun shine on one another...grins...we went grocery shopping for me late last evening...
I am so thankful for HER! It is a million tiny things that make HER her...she is so sweet, so kind, so compassionate, and our dynamics work so well together. I would wish for others to find this same kind of love...the kind that starts over a simple "hello"...and a friendship ensues......and that slow, delicious growing kind of like, then love, then hearts are joined....this is MY priceless love!!!!

- a wonderful, dear conversation with my beautiful grandmother, who is very sick right now :( . Telling her how much i love her, and wished i could have seen her this weekend (she wouldn't let me due to bad weather, and i didn't want to worry her).. & that i will once i am back from Oregon.. She has a house full right now, is exhausted & needs rest.. i hope she gets that soon..
- Time with my Nanny G tomorrow, before i go on my trip Wednesday.. Another session of painting her nails..doing her hair, and maybe having lunch together.. Think we'll have matching fingernails, i'll let her pick the color.. ♥

Not having to worry about keeping the pantry full...

Having a wonderful meal tonight ....my tummy is very happy ...and I am very thankful that, even though things are difficult these days, that I don't need to relive what I faced before with empty pantry and a kid to feed...(those were hurtful times when we had to go without until next pay day)

And a very peaceful weekend ....a beautiful walk at my favorite wildlife refuge...clear skies and good temperatures all weekend ...

A nice home ...

Close friends that look out for me...

Very thankful for my brother and nieces ... had I moved out west, I would have never met them ... they have filled a void within my heart. I am richer for the love they give me.

Learning to cope and "see the light" beyond a disability that often steals life's joys ....

Thankful that things are often not as bad as they feel when living the moment ... thankful for feeling the positive results of my hard work rather than dread of burn out...

Thankful that I made the decision to remain on the East coast....

Thankful my health has been fairly good lately so I can enjoy the spring...

Thankful .... for little lives of my furbabies that need me and help me deal with "empty nest" syndrome ...

Thankful for Blade's parents who have been so kind and generous to me.

Today I am thankful for the time I got to spend with family, the beautiful outdoors, the sunshine, and my pup Ginger. I am also thankful for the ability to read, think and work on my studies. I think I am slowly formulating plans for papers yet to be finished before the end of the semester. Most of all I am thankful for my parents. Both of them are failing in health, but I am very grateful to still have them even if sometimes they do frustrate me with their forgetfulness, repeating themselves twenty times, and their numerous requests and distractions when I am very busy. I truly am blessed to have them in my life at the ages of 92 and 86. I can only hope to live that long and remain as active as they still are. I am blessed.

... I don't think thankful is an appropriate word, but in hopes of keeping with the thread, I am thankful for God placing my kitten in my life. She is where I belong and every day I thank the heavens above for her.

It is easy to get caught up in life and focus solely on the hardships. Credit, work, school and so forth. But taking a moment to look closely at what you do have - it can just brighten your whole outlook. No matter how stressed I am with life, these three things keep me going.

I am simply thankful for life.

- for a wonderful Daddy, who loves the hell outta me every moment of everyday..(i am so stinkin' happy here with Him)

I am thankfull for a change in momentum that allows me to focus on myself and become again the person i want to be. A lil self relflection is never wasted.

So thankfull for the gym! .... ouch!!!!4 to 5 times a week! its been over 4 years since ive done this!

I am thankful for a pup that greets me with kisses abound
A partner that knows when to sit back and let me fume until exhausted
A coworker that recognizes my "RAWR" face and reminds me that our shift if almost over

I am thankful for customers that appreciate my effort and make a point to pass it along to senior management - my ASM mentioned tonight that I was recognized for my work.. Let's hope that is in my folder for the interview for head cashier, yes?

I am thankful for soup in a can on nights I eat dinner late, for TWC for fixing our Internet so I can stay up until the wee hours watching Netflix, for the soft breeze coming through the windows..

I will be thankful for a second-story bedroom so I can sleep with the window open without worrying about someone breaking in!

I have many things to be thankful for in this life. The one most important to me is my wife, Andrea. We have been together seven years now, legally married for five years. Neither of us sees an end in sight! LOL That I am thankful for, as well. She must be sick in the head!

I am thankful for my 90 year old dad, though he doesn't always know who I am. I am especially thankful for the live in care givers he and his wife have. We would all be lost without them.

I am thankful for one of my best friends, "Jimmie" Olga Card, that passed away last week at age 96. She was a spit fire, put me in my place many times! I deserved every one of 'em! LOL I miss her lots.

I am just thankful for every day I have here on earth. I have no idea what happens after this, but I hope it includes getting reunited with those I love. Especially my wife! No one can annoy her like I do! LOL

Sitting here on the patio having coffee, watching Kelly and Kevin (the KKs) play in the yard and thinking I am a little excited about what this day will bring.

A few of my countless thankfuls are:

KKs are healthy and happy (I am too)

my job is such I can provide extras for KKs

a peaceful, drama-free life

friends who tell it like it is without the candy-coating

the promotion that is in the works - supervisor informed me last week

Most of all, every day I am eternally thankful for my sobriety. Without that, I could not have been guided to the peace I feel on the inside and would not have any of the previous "thankfuls" I have listed here. I owe it all to the Good Spirit and the people in the rooms of AA. Every single bit of it!

:rrose: improving health...losing inches and weight, consistently good lab results after 20+ years of diabetes

:rrose: a good job...for the last 5 years

:rrose: friends who take the time to listen

:rrose: a partner who loves and appreciates me for who I am, and who is solid, honest and real...even when life gets difficult

I am thankful for so much in my life.
My two beautiful daughters, my wonderful friends who remind me how much I am loved, my creative endeavors, my health and so much more.

I am thankful for healthy, beautiful children. I am thankful for a not so healthy, beautiful child that has taught me what strength and perseverance means. To not take the little things for granted. I am thankful to be over worked and under paid (most days ;) ) because it provides a roof over our heads and food in our bellies. I am thankful for friends who accept me just as I am. I am thankful that I have someone who can see past my moodiness and loves me unconditionally. Someone who tells me I'm beautiful when I look a wreck and kisses me with morning breath. I'm thankful to be alive and share my days and nights with these amazing people.

I'm thankful for being able to return to work tomorrow to a new, shiny position after a 6-month poor health hiatus. I'm thankful to be happy, healthy and alive. I'm thankful for the boost up the ladder this will give me. I'm thankful for friends and family for their love.

My laundry is done, my dishes are washed, I have a freezer full of lunches and my go-bag is repacked. Bring it.
