what a week of football!!
Glad the Pack finally lost one. bahahaha.
Not really sad my Broncos lost. Can't win em' all. I loved that hit on Brady! I am happy still with Tebow and his performance every week. I'm really happy the Broncos are still #1 in the AFC West. Raiders lost again, haaa! I look forward to seeing how far they can go in the playoffs and I'll be proud of them regardless.

Hopefully next year, the Bears will have a new coach
Not that Lovie was all bad, but it's time for new blood, new moves and a coach that doesn't want to call every move in every position
Let the other coaches do the job they are being paid to do
Just when I was getting used to, but still not like Cutler, he gets hurt
Wondering who will be his back-up next year
I believe if they work more with Hanie, he'd settle down
Oh and letting him actually throw the ball instead of handing it off for 3 and outs would help
Win or lose, I'll take my beloved Bears every time :)

Tebow is playing well, but not well enough to compete with quarterbacks like Rogers, Brees or Brady; If Rothlisberger hadn't been playing injured, I'm not sure the outcome would have been the same. Tebow's time is coming, but it's not yet.
I predict New England and Baltimore for the AFC, and New Orleans and Green Bay for the NFC.
We'll see if I'm right next weekend, lol.
If that comes true, then I say that New England will take the AFC; I just don't know what is going to happen in the NFC if it is Brees and the Saints against Rogers and the Packers. If nothing else, that will be one hell of a game!

Part of what made it great was the Tide coming back from a loss to LSU earlier in the season AND beating them on their turf (so to speak).

FWD: Best BCS Championship Game Ever! Can't Believe They Bought It! ~ HuffPo (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/daniel-treadway/fwd-best-bcs-championship_b_1195807.html)
(Satire)
"Let me take a moment to give particular praise to the work of Brent Musberger during the game, who going into the fourth quarter managed to make the idea of LSU crossing the 50-yard line on offense a compelling plot line. With The Bachelor two-hour special in full swing, Brent knew something had to be done to keep viewers glued to this glorified do-over and the man who has made his life's work in blowing moments out of proportion had his finest hour."

Young Tebow is getting his young butt spanked by the Pats, lol. Yes, it is time for him to realize that although he is pretty good, he is way out of his league for now.
Glynn
I'm not saying anything negative about Tebow's talent, it's just the announcers keep saying how it's his first season and expectations were too high and he'll get better, which i'm sure he will. But he was drafted 25th in 2010. He was Denver's first round draft pick.
Brady was drafted 199th in 2000 (6th round draft pick) and was the fourth string quarterback (pats went with 4 quarterbacks that year)worked his way to 2nd string by the next year, 2001, and then came into replace Bledsoe when he got hurt. Pat's won the 2001 super bowl that year and Brady won MVP and the rest is history. He didn't need any time to improve. Sometimes I just think Brady doesn't get the credit he deserves. Oh and Brady was 24 at the time. Tebow is 25.

I'm still a Bronco fan and couldn't be anymore proud of Tebow in his first year. They still got the division win.
Sometimes I just think Brady doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Sometimes? More like all the time.
I wonder why that is? Is it because he wasn't anyone's 1st round draft pick? And instead he went in the 6th round?
Or could it be because he was a 4th string quarterback who worked his ass off his first year and that same first year unexpectedly became Drew Bledsoe's backup quarterback who took over and orchestrated the Pats to a Super Bowl win and didn't need a year or two to warm up?
Or could it be because his most useful talents, which apparently escaped notice during his college years, reside under his helmet and the left hand side of his chest pads?

As for The Texans/Ravens game. The Ravens didnt impress me one bit. If it wasnt for those two turnovers (one being right there on the goaline) that resulted in Tds they would have ended up with just 2 FGs. If they plan on even being in the same league with the Patriots they better come up with a whole different game plan.

In both cases, Vegas sharps jumped on the favorites at New England opened up laying just 6.5, San Francisco as low at just a one-point favorite, though most Vegas and offshore sportsbooks had them at (-2) to start out the betting.
I might take the Giants. That's not who I want to win. I prefer a Pats - 49er super bowl. But if i was betting money, which I won't be, I would take the Giants.
I have never bet against the Pats in my whole life. Even when I worked in Boston and played the pool at work, back in the '90s when the Pats couldn't win a game in my back yard with my grandma as quarterback, i wouldn't bet against them. Needless to say that little quirk of mine would make winning each week in the season pool a bit tricky. Now when it would be an asset to always pic the pats with my heart and the rest of the card with my head I don't have the opportunity to play where i live. At least not a friendly pool with friends and coworkers.

we have Aaron Rodgers from the packers that im sure will be home and spotted out in about.
we also have Jeff Maehl from the Texans that will also be seen wondering about and helping out in the community.

That basically boils down to the Patriots are favored by 9 points and the Niners by 3. A negative number means thats the team that is favored.

Yeah I prefer a Pats 49ers match up anything but Eli...uugghh.
I have been a Pats fan (I grew up in NH) since I watched my first football game on a black and white TV sitting on my Fathers lap (whew showing my age). I stuck with them all through the times they stunk. Through Plunkett, Eason, Grogan, Flutie, Bledsoe and Brady. Of course a few QBs that should be forgotten like Matt Cavanaugh, Hugh Millen and Marc Wilson. I still have a Super Bowl XX brass key chain I use daily from Jan 26, 1986. Granted its a bit beat up from opening beer bottles back in the day!
I feel after all those years of sticking with them I deserve a few good years ;)
Go Pats!

Well the thing is...to get a little more in depth.. IF you think they game between the Ravens and Patriots will be closer then 9 points apart you would bet on the Ravens. For example if the end score was Pats 37 Ravens 33 and you bet on the Ravens you would win. Thats IF you are betting the line not just a straight win/lose bet. The point spread can change daily sometimes many times daily depending on a lot of factors. Like lets say Ray Rice of the Ravens gets hurt in practice this week and cant play, then the Patriots -9 would increase to lets say -14 or something. I wish I lived in Vegas heck you can bet on who wins the coin toss or whos scores the first points...just all kinds of fun stuff thats if you like the gamble.

I’m scratching my head, trying to figure out what the hype surrounding Tim Tebow is all about. Is it because he’s religious and prays?
Check out the following stats:
Tim Tebow stats: quarterback rating 72.9, total passing yards 2011 season: 1729. They say he is a duel threat. He rushed for a total of 660 this season. So, total yardage is 2389. 47% Completion rating. His worst completion rating was 27%.He had a quarterback rating of 20 against KC. With these stats he is the great American hope? He’s been in the pros for a couple of years and he’s 24.
Let’s compare him with one of his peers:
Most people don’t even know Mathew Stafford by name. He’s Detroit’s QB. His QB rating is 97.2, total passing yards for the 2011 season: 5038 (twice as much as Tebow), 63.5% completion rating. His worst completion rating was 59%. High QB rating of 137. He’s been in the pros for 3 years and he’s only 23. Right now, a year younger than Tebow with the same amount of experience, his stats are comparable with great quarterbacks like Brady or Rogers.
So, I’m skeptical when people talk about how great he’s going to be in a few years. Even if Denver designs a college type offense, the guy is not great at passing the ball. I can understand if Tebow had the passing talents of a Stafford and the rushing talents of Michael Vick or Vince Young but he doesn’t.
Maybe they think he has a direct line to God. *Being sarcastic*

Well yes Stafford had a great year and I agree with your point. But people seem to forget about Cam Newton too. He broke some records this year including Steve Grogans record for most rushing TDs by a QB in a season which was 12 and stood for 35 years. Its funny Cam Newton didnt even know who Steve Grogan was when asked! lol I remember watching Grogan when I was younger..I DO know who he is ;)

btw, that's what happened in the 2010 playoff game between Baltimore and New England. Brady was sacked twice with one resulting in a fumble and threw 3 interceptions. The wildcard Ravens beat the odds favored Patriots 33-14. I think that was the Patriots first playoff loss in Gillette Stadium. 2 years later...same stadium, same teams, same head coaches, same quarterbacks. I realize that this doesn't mean the same outcome but it does give me comfort knowing we weren't expected to win back then but did. Here's to hoping for an injury free game on Sunday. GO RAVENS!!!

I'm sorry to say, I think you should take that bet. I would prefer the 49ers, but if I were betting I would put my money on NY. I think the Giants will not only cover the spread but win the game.
I think the odds are a little better for Baltimore now I think the Pats would have to win by 7.5 instead of 9, which would mean by a touchdown and a field goal or a safety. And I think it's going to be a close game. So maybe if you have the stomach for it, you could put some money on Baltimore. I could never do it. I never have done it. Could never bet against the Pats. Even though my father always told me don't bet with your heart, when it comes to money only your family matters.
Good advice. Although I always figured better advice is don't bet what you aren't prepared to lose But that's just me. And I'm a chicken shit when it comes to gambling.

Ah Steve Grogan. What Pats fan can forget Super Bowl XX? Ah good times, good times. NOT.
The thing is we had some pretty okay quarterbacks but never had a whole team before 2001. Plunket did fine with Oakland, 2 superbowl rings. And Bledsoe, well, I am not a hater, I think he had a great arm, but his heart was two sizes too small.
btw, that's what happened in the 2010 playoff game between Baltimore and New England. Brady was sacked twice with one resulting in a fumble and threw 3 interceptions. History could repeat itself.
But I sincerely hope not.
Still I think it's going to be a great game either way. And if it came to it, I would rather lose to Baltimore and its great defense than to the Giants in the Super Bowl. I would rather lose to the 49ers as well. But that's just a personal preference. :|
Hopefully the Pats will not lose. And my favorite thing of all would be to to have the Pats give the Giants a good beat down for the Super Bowl win.

I can't say what the hell is going to happen after the upsets last weekend! I'm so disappointed in the Saints and Packers; Saints just made to many mistakes; Not really sure what happened in Green Bay.
Anyway, I think I'd like to see Baltimore and San Francisco battle it out in the Superbowl. In that race, I'd have to pick Baltimore. Baltimore hasn't been to the Superbowl since 2001, and the 49ers haven't been since 1995; Two teams pretty hungry for it. Of the two, I'd pick Baltimore. But with the way the playoffs have gone, who KNOWS what will happen!

Yep. Pats didn't win. The Ravens lost.
I'm not sure I'd say the Ravens played much better than the Pats, because if they had they would be going to the super bowl. I think their offense played much better than I imagined they would. I think the Pats offense played worse than I anticipated. The Pats defense sucked. Baltimore's defense didn't do the job. But the game should have gone into overtime. I don't think anyone actually won this game. I think Baltimore's field goal kicker took the decision out of the hands of the two teams. The way it was going, if it had gone into overtime, considering the pats defense couldn't stop the Ravens offense, if Baltimore had won the toss they might be on their way to the super bowl. I too feel bad for their kicker.
Sometimes I wish it could be the best 3 out of 4 (but that would be too exhausting for everybody).
But I'm glad the Pats won.

Well, since the definition of pansy is:
pan·sy/ˈpanzē/
Noun:
1) A popular cultivated viola with flowers in rich colors, esp. the familiar Viola cornuta.
2) offensive. An effeminate or homosexual man.
I'm sure you wouldn't be using an offensive term, so you must find the Pats flowery. Or maybe cultivated.

Why don't we actually post the whole definition as per
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pansy
Definition of PANSY
1
: a garden plant (Viola wittrockiana) derived chiefly from the hybridization of the European Johnny-jump-up (Viola tricolor) with other wild violets; also : its flower
2
a usually disparaging : a weak or effeminate man or boy
b usually disparaging : a male homosexual
See pansy defined for English-language learners »
See pansy defined for kids »
Origin of PANSY
Middle English pancy, pensee, from Middle French pensée, from pensée thought, from feminine of pensé, past participle of penser to think, from Latin pensare to ponder — more at pensive
First Known Use: 15th century
As with MOST words there are many meanings and usages. As previously stated you can not "like" the word as much as you want. That was my choice of words and I will continue to stand behind my choice of the word. Thanks for the definition but I am fully aware of the history behind the word. If we were to discontinue the usage of words that have been give derogatory power well we would not have much of a use for words.
That is the beauty in free speech. On a side note...no not flowers as you felt the need to ad but
a usually disparaging : a weak or effeminate man or boy
Which is how I view the Pats. Anything else?

I am not defensive cause frankly I do not need to defend my choice of words. I called them "Pansy Pat" that is not my first time calling them that here or elsewhere and will not be my last. The issue with the word that was pointed out is an issue urban society has given a word. Take whatever stance you want on it. I have taken mine. Thanks!
If you are offended of my choice of a word feel free to report my post or contact admin.
hummm, Tranny is used all over these boards and I find it highly offensive. I chosse not to read those folks using it.
Pansy to me just means weak.
back to football?

So when we come across something that we find offensive we should just choose not to read those folks using it and move on? One shouldn't point out, for example, someone's use of tranny as being offensive? Or Pansy?

I guess , if you are offened by any word its ok to say so, where my problem comes is the use of the word WE, like who has the right to speak for eveyone?
I hear both these words embraced by folks day in and day out. But i do work at one of the biggest LGBT Centers in the US
I can only speak for myself. Many find the word Queer offensive.
Maybe this needs to be another thread, This is a football thread.

The word "pansy" was reported multiple times.
Here's something we all need to remember:
*ANY* term that disparages gay people, whether they be effeminate men, bulldykes, Lesbians, etc., when not used in the context of reclaiming is not only homophobic but against our TOS. Especially since this is a website geared toward the GLBTQIAA spectrum.
Here's the other problem with that word when used in the context of "a man not living up to societal standards of "macho": It reinforces a homophobic and sexist stereotype that "effiminate" is WEAKER or LESS THAN.
And that reinforcement will *never* be ok on this website.

Thank you for the moderation. I however do not agree and will not retract my use of the word. I am not really concerned with how many times it was reported. Feel free to ban me or time me out. Thanks

I am not interested in your rebuttal on a moderation. I am not asking you to retract your use of the word, I am advising you that it is against the TOS and that if you use it again on this website, you will receive a 30-day time-out.
I have been clear. It is clear to me that you do not want to examine the sexism and homophobia in your use of that word and I'm actually ok with that.
You are now aware of the consequences of any further use of that word and I will not hesitate to enforce the guidelines that you agreed to when you joined this site.
It is time to move along. This issue is closed.

Upcoming Superbowl decisions...decisions...
I have to say that I am really on the fence about the upcoming Superbowl. Though I am a fan of neither team, I do recognize their talent in making it through the playoffs.
Here's my inner (and now outer) monologue:
The Patriots are a well oiled machine. However, they seem to have skidded through by the skin of their teeth in the two games prior to yesterday's, and yesterday they really seemed to have been handed the game by the Raven's kicker. I do like Tom Brady.
The Giants, in my opinion, have played really well this year. I do not like The Giants, I do like Eli Manning. They are, again in my opinion, the underdogs of this game. Someone I do not like, offsite, hates The Giants.
My inner 5 year old will probably pick the underdog team, and the joy of hoping that someone will be disappointed if they win.
Either way, I really think it is going to be one helluva game. I love watching Superbowl games. I am sad that the Steelers and 49ers are out, but loving the Superbowl like I do, I will have to get over it so that I can still enjoy the game wholeheartedly.
End monologue....:)

Since Da.Bears. are not playing, I have no vested interest; but, I too, usually root for the underdogs and even though a friend on the site is a huge Pats fan, if I watch the game, I will most likely root for whoever is losing. lol :winky:

When I have no vested interest in either team, I pick the underdog as well. It just seems like the right thing to do.
This year, I do have an interest as I am a Patriots fan. This is not, however, stopping my inner dialogue from mulling things over.
To me, the Patriots have had a so-so season. The defense hasnt always been reliable. The number of new faces in and out of the front line was impressive. Tom Brady hasnt always been as sharp as I would like to see. And, I have seen him more flustered this year than ever before. The offense has varied as well. Some games they made it look easy, some hard, some impossible, some grateful to have the win courtesy of the other guys mistakes.
The Belichick/Brady magic and mystique isnt quite what it used to be. A few teams seem to have out coached us this year, using Belichick like stuff in the process.
Still my guys. Still hope they do well. Grateful they have gotten this far. But, still realistic.
The Giants have had an awesome second half. Their defense has stepped up when it counted the most. Their guys are huge and fast and tough. Eli, given enough time, can throw with the best of them. Their offensive can be explosive. They made minced meat out of the Packers, in the playoffs.
The Giants, to me, are a team on a mission this year. And they did it quietly but steadily to get to this point. Their coach, to me, is a formidable opponent with many Belichickesque techniques used, especially when playing the Patriots.
I think it is going to be a tough game. I hope the Patriots win but it wont surprise me if they dont.

Like you, I am a Patriots fan. I am a Belichick fan. I am a huge Tom Brady fan. The yard sale, flea market, bargain shopper in me thinks he was the best deal in NFL draft history. If he has at least some decent protection and doesn't get badly hurt he could play for a few more years. In that case he will break even more records and on paper will become the greatest quarterback to play the game. That he was a sixth round draft choice, 4th string quarterback is amazing to me. That he threw 3 passes in 2000, count them 3 and came in off the bench to quarterback a team that was 0-2 in 2001 and took them to super bowl and won just blows my mind. And the reality that Belichick loves to get no name guys to play for him hasn't eluded me either. Over the years he has had many walk ons play for him. He puts heart, practice, knowledge of the game, team play, toughness, and execution right up there with talent, maybe he even gives them the edge over it. This makes Brady and Belichick pretty much a perfect match. Not that Brady doesn't have talent, not that anyone who makes it to this level of play doesn't have talent.
But maybe you are right about Belichick, his super powers may be waning. But maybe not.
Anyway as far as the super bowl goes I, of course, want the Pats to win. This is the team who took the Pats perfect season and rendered it meaningless. This is the first year since that super bowl defeat that the Pats have actually won a play-off game. It would be awesome to kick some Giant ass. Yet, I actually like the Giants. Years and years and years ago before New England had a team, most people rooted for the Giants. They were my father's favorite team (until the Pats of course). So I do have a soft spot for them, although not that soft any more. They weren't my team. The Pats are my team.
I like Eli. He annoyed me when he stepped around the draft like he was special. I held the same thing against John Elway. But then I can understand, considering what his father went through in New Orleans, why he stated he would refuse to play for San Diego if they drafted him as the overall first round pick in the 2004 draft. Yet I just don't care for it when someone gets special treatment.
Anyway, I don't doubt that the Pats can beat the Giants. Will they? Who knows. That's why they play the game. But the Giant pass defense is no great shakes (29th I think) so it is likely to be an offensive game. And when it is about the offense, my money will always be on Tom Brady.

I love football. I love the Super Bowl. I love my Patriots. But, I am soooo ready for this game to be over.
For the last 2 weeks, the Boston sports people have dissected everything Brady has said and trust me, he didnt say much that was newsworthy. They have speculated on Belichicks sleep habits, Gronkowski's ankle, and even Giselle's tweets. There might even have been a mention of the intestinal gas patterns of the defensive line.

I forgot about the Puppy Bowl!
The Giants are healthy. The Pats are not. Eli is feeling fine and playing well. Tom is banged up (shoulder) and likely to get banged up even more. The Giants defense will be better than their record indicates because they are healthier than they’ve been all season. Their pass rush should disturb Brady. New England’s defense isn’t all that even when they are healthy and they are not one bit. Their make shift secondary should have a hard time with NY’s three wide receiver package. The running game definitely favors NY. Gronkowski will play, at least initially, but he is hurt badly enough that he will not be a factor at all. The coaching is pretty even. But frankly all things considered the Giants have the edge. Maybe even more than an edge. The biggest game changer is that they are healthy. That is an enormous gift this time of year. And their defense is just better. So the Giants should win, at least that’s what my head says. My heart though, that just defies logic. The Pats have my heart and I believe they are a better football team than they seem on paper. I think they have everything they need to pull it off. I believe they will do what they need to do and in the end they will win the Super Bowl. We will see.
No one gives them much of a chance, except the odds makers. The Pats are favored by 3.5 points but for the life of me I can’t imagine why. I think that’s just odd odds. I wouldn’t put money on the Pats. I won’t put it on the Giants just on principle, but logic dictates that’s where the money should go. I guess I don’t understand betting. Anyway GO PATS!

Thank you for looking into all of this for me this morning. I am behind, I didn't sleep well, and then woke up too early. I wish I could support the Pats for you today, but no, I cannot. I am just hoping for an exciting game for both teams, I do not want to see a blowout. I kind of enjoy the way a tight game raises my heart rate, and gets me yelling and shaking my fist at the screen just like my grandmother used to do.
Since I do not normally eat many carbohydrates, Super Bowl Sunday is a great day to enjoy the naughty treats. Today I have decided it will be my very own order of crab puffs, and then shared nachos, and pizza. Strange combination, but it is what my inner football food junkie desires.
I hope you all enjoy the game!

First off, thanks to Angie for fixing my inability to post problem.
It is halftime. The Patriots are looking better and more focused. I like that they are getting Woodhead involved. He is another Wekler .... fast, slippery, and he only comes up to JPP's knee cap. And, I'm wondering if Gronkowski is getting his miracle shot in the locker room. If he is, he will be a force to contend with.
I am still banking on the Pats. It has been a fairly mundane game thus far. So, I am thinking the creative coaching plays both Coughlin and Belichick are known for will emerge in the second half.
