30 min. stairmaster. I am watching "pervert park" on Netflix about a community of child sex abusers on parole (a documentary). It's very sad for sure, but also well-done.

I saw Judith on her computer in the cafe in the front of the gym. I looked away so that we wouldn't make eye contact. I did that because I prefer to chat in the locker room. She spends a lot of time on her laptop in the cafe. It's like she lives at the gym and takes a yoga class here or there.

I did my 100 situps this morning had my coffee and got to work. I check my email and there you all were working out, OMG! I forgot to finish my workout ;).

I did my 10 pushups, counted to 50 with my planks. I started doing this mountain climber position 3 days ago. I get into my pushup position and I run in place, it kicks my behind but it makes me feel so good afterwards.

Thank you all for reminding me :).

Have a beautiful day!

I went to two PT pool therapy sessions this week. Just the small amount of walking in water and other types of therapist assisted activities, left my body on fire. But I'm guessing it's my tissues and nerves rewiring???

My sessions are private, so there's not much interaction with anyone other than my therapist.

However, I find the Netflix documentary you watched about sex offenders interesting, nycfem. Just today, on a short walk to a neighborhood store, the headline of the community newspaper was about sex offenders in housing situations. It's a tough heavy subject, for sure.

On Sunday, I did an amazing out of walking, and yesterday I had to go get medicine and go by my primary doctor's office to reschedule two appointments in early September, so I did about the same amount of walking, yesterday.

Today and Thursday I have PT pool therapy sessions....which after I'm done, I usually need an extra pill to relax my muscles and body (it's non-habit forming, and it works well to help ease my pain levels).

Friday I go to my monthly doctor appt to evaluate my ongoing medical condition. My doctor may recommend other forms of water therapy to go with the current model in use.

All that to say, that by the time I'm done with necessary walking, either for enjoyment or for medical treatment purposes, I'm very tired and ready for a big nap or to rest primarily in bed, for a good while.

I have not exercised for almost 2 weeks. We were in Portland for five days, and then I did not go back to exercising until today.

Today I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster, levels 1-4 intervals, 75 floors. I finished the Netflix doc "Pervert Park" about sexual offenders. It was surely a well-done doc, though so sad. It highlighted some concerns about entrapment issues. Before I left the gym today, I picked out a new Netflix doc series about occult crimes. I like to keep it light :/

After the stairmaster, I did 30 minutes of weight lifting, sit-ups and such, and stretching. It felt great to be back at the gym. And my body feels so good post-work-out.

I go back to school the day after Labor Day, so I'm dreading the effect that will have on my exercising.

Thanks for the vent, exercisers :)

Yesterday I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster. I have not found anything that I'm really into watching lately, so that's a bummer.

Today I also did 30 minutes on the stairmaster, as well as 30 minutes floor work out (abs, weights, yoga). It was all very fun.

Judith and I ran into each other when I was on my way out, and she was on her way in. She was dressed up and was upset I was on my way out. She looked stricken. She said, "You're not going to the party?" I didn't know about the party but I do know the gym sometimes has parties on the roof. I can't think of anything more awful than a party at the gym. Judith was dressed up for it. I was post-work-out clothes. I told her no. She tried to encourage me to go. I said that I had somewhere to be (at home doing nothing). She was disappointed. I think she would have liked to have a friend at the party. Alas, it was not to be. I felt like it was a scene from a movie, and I gave the wrong answer.

Today I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster and found a good doc on Amazon prime, called "without charity" about a small town murder. Today I had chatters around me. They weren't on phones but were chatting with each other, so it was annoying.

Wrangler, so you are getting bored with walking? Do you have a phone where you can listen to podcasts while you walk? Oh, well, that's something I like, what are you thinking of doing instead?

I listen to music while I walked. I have been looking at exercise equipment. I'll continue walking but it would be great to break it up with other things. I just need some variety. Even taking some sort of class would be great. So I'm exploring my options.

Any suggestions are welcome. I've lost 19.6 lbs and should reach my first goal sometime next week. I am happy about that.

120 sit-ups.
22 push-ups.
85 counted for planks.
30 push-up position run in place.
5 different arm weight lifting.

I dance a bit in between. The music was good today.

Saturday night work-out for me. 30 minutes on the stairmaster. I did a pattern of two-minute intervals, levels 1-5, which makes it fun (to come up with patterns). I'm almost done with the Amazonprime doc "Without Charity" which has been such a winner.

Then I did 30 minutes of floor exercises (weight lifting, yoga, and general floor exercises).

I got up at 5 am, got ready and worked out before I start my day. I have a lot to catch up on with homework. I did,

100 sit-ups
60 count planks
20 push-ups
20 push-up position running in place
5 arm weights, I usually do 6 pound weights with 10 reps, today I did 12 pound weights with 5 reps.

When I feel ready, I up my workout and when I don't feel well I simply rest.

I hope your back feels better today nycfem.

Today I did 30 minutes on the stair master (levels 1-5, intervals) while watching "Intervention" (so excited to be able to watch this on Hulu). I LOVE Intervention, even though it's emotionally hard to watch because it is usually so intense and sad. Sometimes the intervention works, though.

Then I did 30 minutes combined of weights, yoga, and floor exercises. My back was still stiff so I did my weights all from a sitting or balance ball position, and I didn't do heavy weights. My back feels great tonight, so, score!

As long as you keep trying Gemme. I didn't just get up one day and decided to workout lol I wish!

It's been over a hundred degrees in Los Angeles all week. I worked out once this week.

Just keep trying and don't give up. This forum is awesome because to me, we support each other regardless of how often or what we do. It's different for everyone, the pace, the weights and the exercise. Just an idea, maybe try something different and later change it again.

I love that there are no rules, as long as we keep moving lol Our bodies are not meant to sit still. (I'm rambling, sorry. Coffee kicked in haha!)

Try it again later Gemme ;).

Yesterday 30 minutes on the stairmaster and then today same thing. I watched a great Amazon Prime documentary about a man convicted of murder who was then found to be innocent by the Innocence Project! He was in jail for 25 years!

Sooo... today was a big day for me and Judith. We had our biggest conversation ever! She was in the locker room sleeping at 6 pm (on a Friday night), not having exercised since a yoga class at 1! Didn't I tell you she lives at the gym! So I woke her by putting my bag down (mean). She asked me if I just came from work, which was kind of funny because I was wearing my raggedy ass gym clothes. Maybe she was still semi-asleep. Anyway, her asking me this question allowed me to feel comfortable getting a little deeper with her. After I said blah blah blah about what I do for work, I asked her what she does. She can't be paid to watch t.v. all day at the gym, which is all I knew until now. She told me that she worked in finances, trading, investing, etc. Wow. The Life. Since we were having one of our few conversations not about the gym or the weather, I came out to her! I said, "My partner... [blah, blah, blah]." Sometimes if I'm not sure how someone will react to me being gay, I revert to the old-time "partner" instead of "wife." "Wife" sounds more aggressive- "See, I have rights just like you!" "Partner" evokes more of a small-time backyard commitment ceremony. I did then use "she" in reference to my "partner" so that she would know for sure what I meant. She didn't have a visible reaction. Hmmm, sometimes relationships get deeper just when you think they never will!

Today, I rose early to get a load of laundry washed and dried....Then, I went for a long slow walk in my own neighborhood. Between those two things and a little bit of household chores (vacuum the carpet, clean the bathroom and going up and down three flights of stairs, took a lot of energy.

But.....I lost about 12 pounds since a couple weeks ago. Not from exercise but from being incredibly sick. My doctor still hasn't called me back with the lab results, but the doctor felt I got the season's first round of an norovirus flu of some sort.

Good for you Gayandgray! It's what works for you that counts, we are all different.

I just started my 3rd quarter of Medical Transcription and Editing, full-time online student. Three quarters until I finish. I made sure I have weights next to my desk and every morning, 5 days a week I have been doing (today)

100 sit-ups. I started to meet my left elbow with my right knee and it's working wonders with my external oblique's.
10 push-ups
1 minute plank
15 mountain climbing and I switched this as well. I meet my left knee with my right side when I bring it up.
10 reps with 2 six pound arm weights in different directions.

I just make sure I do something 5 days a week. I don't push myself if I can't but I try to do as many as possible. By the time I graduate, around July 2018, I will be fit, ready to work and play hard. I can't wait!

Let's see.... I can't say that I've been to the gym or working my butt off at my job (which if I was released to go back to work, I'd be getting my work out at the top of my work day). But I've been steadily making progress due to my PT team and making in-roads on getting some of my former mobility back. The best I can do is two long walks a day. Not every day of the week, but I'm building up my tolerance to pain and my ability to walk for longer periods of time. I'm still using an mobility device because I can't walk independently, but I'm crossing off roadblocks to freedom from my mobility device.

The good news is even better, I think. I have always been able to wear my clothes, so I'm not worried about my weight at all. I'm fairly tall, so being able to wear my clothes that I've always worn is a good sign, to me.

Walking is an very good exercise and to be able to walk, is a good thing in my world. :bouquet:

I did my usual routine, stairmaster, levels 1-5, x30 minutes, followed by a 30 minute combo of weight lifting and yoga. While on the stairmaster, I started watching a few docs that I did not like and then settled on "One of Us" about ex-Hasids.

Now that it's getting cold, the gym is looking good.

When it gets cold, it's hard to workout because of my asthma, but I do my best. That's why I push myself so hard in the summer.

Today I did,

50 sit-ups
10 pushup
10 mountain climber

I did 45 minutes on the stairmaster, and it felt so good. The gym feels like church if I believed in God. I feel so great after. Then I stretched for 15 minutes which was bliss.

I ran into Judith RIGHT when I came in. I was passing through the snack bar, and she popped up. She'd been sitting at her computer. She said she'd been on it for hours and was now planning to order something for dinner. She works remotely in finances. Oh, to be Judith...

I'm glad I left work early and let myself get my gym on :).

*edited to add- leaving "early" means leaving on time instead of staying hours late!

Today I went to PT....my session usually lasts an hour and a half. I begin by using a machine to exercise my arms, which I use it about 8 minutes.

After that, I move to the bicycle machine and "bicycle" for about ten minutes. When I first began to use this machine, I could only do it for 3 minutes. Each week, my therapist adds a couple more minutes to see if my body will tolerate this exercise. Sometimes I stop for a breather and watch all the cars go by...then resume using the machine.

After that, we do three combination exercises which I need an assist with: marching leg lifts, squats ---but not like most would think. A therapist shadows me while I try to get my knees to lower me into an type of squat, but I can't go any further than just as I see my feet disappear as my knees lower my body. I do a set of 30 squats, mixed with marching type rotations. I sometimes have to take a breather doing this too, due to the type of Lumbar injuries I have in my lower back.

Next, both therapist's call over another therapist to spot for my next therapy exercise, where two therapists help me onto a mat, where I have to have shadow assistance to be on my knees and the palms of my hands. One therapist on each side of me, one in front of me. They hold me in place, while I try to reach with one hand to touch the hand of the therapist in front of me. I can only do this for less than two minutes.....then they help me get off the mat on an massage platform table. The first time I did it was last week, and I cried because it's painful to do. I've done it twice now...since they added this to our portfolio of recovery exercises.

After we get me off the mat, I sit in a chair and we practice Balloon Ping Pong. The object of hitting the Balloon back and forth is that the balloon goes where the flow of air takes it. I have to try to reach and stretch to bat the balloon back, without it falling on the floor. This is very challenging to do as my back and shoulders are locked up and it's supposed to help my muscles to unlock.

After all the above exercises are done, another therapist take a me in for an deep tissue muscle compression massage and if we have time, she does light therapy massage which utilizes and ultrasound light therapy wand over very sensitive parts of my.lower back.

By the time they're done with me, I'm pretty much done for the day. But after PT, I had to get a few errands done, which is time consuming and requires me to endure long walks to get those few things done.

After I got home from my day, I took my evening meds, and now it's nearly time for 'Lights Out.'

This what I do currently in PT, twice a week.

Daily, I manage to get two one hour walks in, even though I walk slowly. Plus, I also have to climb and descend three flights of stairs, twice daily, so there's that exercise too, apart from short trips to other doctors and the twice a month grocery shopping trips I do.

Anyway.....my exercise today and PT made for a long day.
I feel accomplished for the seemingly simple, yet often times very difficult goals I complete each week.

I went to the gym today even though I was exhausted. Sometimes that works but I think I might have been better taking today off. I had to slow everything down because I didn't re-energize as sometimes happens at the gym, but slowing everything down forces one to think outside of the box, so that isn't all bad.

At 7 I ran into Judith as I was leaving and she asked if I wanted to go with her to a class. I said a suprised "No!" Lately I got obsessed with whether she was from Guatemala because she looks like one of my students who is Guatemalan. I've been wanting to ask but feeling like maybe it wasn't P.C. So, as sometimes happens, my mouth just busted out with, "Where are you from, I mean, you remind me of one of my students from Guatemala, so..." She seemed fairly chill about it and told me she is from Hong Kong. Aw, the joy of another factoid about Judith! I said that Hong Kong sounds really cool, and she said, "It's like New York City!" She was wearing clothes that have that half dyke half straight sensibility, very odd yet appealing! She was wearing a hot pink t-shirt with a Ralph Lauren brown suede vest. I complimented her vest, and she said, "I get so many compliments on this vest." Glad to know I'm not the only one intrigued by Judith.

Today I worked on exercises from the bicycle and arm machine, and spent nearly one minute, shadowed by two therapists, on the elliptical machine.

I've not done a whole lot of walking today, but managed to do simple small trips going up and down three flights of stairs.

I also accomplished a few hard to do stretches, aided by three staff therapists.

After compression massage, I am basically a big bowl of jello....but each time I go to physical therapy, I tolerate increased models of therapy, so I'm making progress, even if it's in small increments. :bunchflowers:

Caught a great online sale on a more robust chainsaw ... stronger and longer than what I have ... seriously, normally $179.99 marked down to $99.00 ... no one could pass this up!

Anyway, paid for it online, then went and picked it up.

My exercise experience today? Cutting down pine trees, dragging to front via tow strap using my truck's 4 wheel drive, cutting into smaller sections way down near the road ... haul away later.

I am tired of hauling pine straw, pine cones, wet mulchy pine stuff and tired of seeing those slithering things that hide in it. There are plenty non-pine trees on my property.

Over the past three days, I've have several errands I had to do on my own. What it means is that I have to catch a train or bus on my own, to get my personal errands accomplished, outside my medical appointments. What I'd like to do is get my phone set up to measure my walking distances or maybe get a fitbit wrist band? Just so I can track how many steps I'm getting in, on these personal errands.

I'm guessing I walked about three to four hours each day. It takes an lot of energy to walk, so anytime I have to go places on my own, I count it toward my goal of walking, even though it's not like anyone else might walk. But it counts, in good ways, toward my personal mobility recovery.

Maybe later on after a few months of my physical therapy I will be able to resume pool therapy again.

But for now, it's one step at a time. :balloon:

My reward for all the extra walking I did over the past three days is to rest for the next two days, so I'm looking forward to two gentle take care of me days. :rrose:

Last Monday I walked for half an hour during lunch inside the big 5-high schools campus that I work inside. It's a great place to walk- maybe not peaceful, but certainly spacious.

Yesterday I walked from 97th St. to 34th St. That was 13,000 steps. I counted that as 1 hr and 45 minutes but it was longer, with stopping to look around and take photos and all that. The reason I walked there was because I had bought a jacket where they had not taken off the tag with the alarm inside. So it was a walk with a purpose, a destination walk, something I enjoy.

Today I did 30 minutes on the stairmaster. It felt really good. The gym was closing at 2 because it is Christmas. Judith was asleep in the locker room on a bench. I told the worker in the locker room, "Please don't forget to wake Judith before you lock up," and she nodded in agreement.

When I arrived today at the gym locker room, Judith was sitting inside having brunch. When I left, she was chatting with another gym member. It's quite curious how much time she spends at the gym just in the locker room.

Today I went to my usual row of stairmasters and they'd been replaced with matrix "stair masters". I was intimidated but I went for it anyway. I had such a hard time. I couldn't get it to pause, couldn't figure out how to turn off the t.v. on it, couldn't figure out how to speed it up. I ended up getting off, going in a corner by the window, and shedding a few tears. I felt like I wished I was the type that could just quickly figure out machines but I'm really not. Also, I missed my old stairmaster. I went back and got back on again and eked out 15 minutes before I just decided to move on. I still did not have it figured out, and it didn't feel right.

Then I found two old stairmasters somewhere else and used one for 30 minutes. Probably it is only a short time before they get rid of all the old stairmasters. Technology marches on. I don't take to new technology easily. I still read paper books.

I did not do anything physical today. I was back at work and happy to be there. I could barely move.

I almost worked myself silly from Friday through last night felling pine trees, dragging them down to the road with a towrope hooked to the truck. Had a little incident that freaked my calm but it turned out okay.

I sat on my left butt cheek all day long at work. I stepped in a hole, fell backwards yesterday ... was able to push the chainsaw away from me and hit the stop button. But had a tree felling wedge in my right back pocket. Right cheek received a good brusing! Bumped my head on a tree too but not much to that. I just lay there and laughed out loud.

I'm with you on this. Every time they do away with an old piece of equipment, it feels like I have to learn to ride the bicycle again with all the new gadgets and knobs and whatnot. Why can't they just leave some things alone?

2017's coming to an end so it's back to the gym I go. DC will likely get a membership too. We're both going to work on getting back to Our pre-coupled bodies and maybe a little more off the top. In terms of resolutions, which I will post in the appropriate thread, I'm going to do a 44 by 44 plan.

There are 151 days from January 1st to my birthday. That is 21.5 weeks or a teensy bit more than 2 pounds a week. It's feasible. I just have to get up off of my duff to do so.

But not today.

I'm going back to a gym though. The last few years I've mostly been exercising at home/outside between outdoor bike riding and my rowing machine/spin bike at home. But I'm getting bored with it and finding myself setting in at home without working out after work. The winter has me slowing down. So I'm going back to the YMCA- it's just a mile from my work- so I can swing by there before going home and do a spin class or hop on equipment. Yesterday was mostly shoveling and I did an emergency move for a new client in the middle of the snow storm. Thankfully there wasn't a lot to move in but it was still a workout because I had to park a way away from the house that was being moved into because the main road was too snowy and folks were sliding all over the road and I was pretty sure my car would get totaled if I parked close to the house.

Today I have another move and it's -15 right now. But this move is mostly going to be me inside dictating to movers where to place items from their truck. The house will be wide open and cold but at least I won't be slipping on ice and carrying things.

Then, if all goes as planned, spin class at 5:15. Whoop! That will warm me up.

I took a walk today in the drizzling rain. I need to do this every day. Not just for my body but my mind and spirit as well.

+1 on mind and spirit. Did the same here, except no drizzle. Have a walking trail at work. Warm and breezy today so the tree branches were hitting and it sounded nice.

Also work out almost every day at a gym. Just for half an hour or so.

30 minutes on the stairmaster while watching Toddlers and Tiaras (*don't hate me!*)

30 minutes of weightlifting, floor exercises, yoga and stretching

I had just had difficult time with my family. Whenever I have to be in my step-mother's house it dredges up a lot of anger without my trying. I went to the gym after as a meditation, to decompress and get myself out of my mood.

However, when I got back home, my spouse and I got into a little disagreement that I feel my step-mom engineered, so the feelings came back. So it was just one of those days.

I called my dad to confront him about it but he has Parkinson's and sounded frail, so I just thanked him for the nice time today. BB agreed that was best.

On the stairmaster I felt kind of exhausted. My numbers were lower. Perhaps I am fighting off illness, so I took some Emergen-C. On days when I'm slower at the gym, I just remind myself not to freak out and just to go with the flow.

so, yes went to lift today and before I did walked
4mi on their track...it's a strange thing this track,
10 laps makes one mile...mostly I loose count
and don't care...today, I noticed an older lady
jogging around and finally realized she is blind.

So much for any excuses I may think up this week,
or any day after this...She jogged at a brisk pace
by the rail...I went to lift and 45mins later she was
still jogging...another great Power of Example.

I think I'll introduce myself at some point...thinking
about it she's probably younger than me...doesn't
matter...she's doing her thing on that track and
strongly impressed me...so we'll see.

walking day...5mi...thankfully tomorrow is a
running day...this walking and taking rest periods
for instance the day after running is a bit strange
for me...but have to say that it is relaxing my NY
stress muscles...I've learned that it's in the rest
periods that the body gets stronger, and the
stress hormones balance out.

I no longer do my running 7mi a day, nope...alternate
my running miles with walking...and get deep sleep...this
works for me...I have less running injuries,
and feel like running forever when I do.

The walking is a meditation on slowing down mentally
as well as physically...who would have known
I don't have to kill myself with high mileage,
can simply enjoy moving, and being grateful.

So, even if it does get a bit frustrating for me
I walk and gain the sight of this big sky, but
most important for me...peace of mind.

Of course I can not leave it at that, I am expanding (unnecessarily) more ... my exercise experience today is rather boring ... digging more 4x4 fence post holes. Dig 2 feet, throw some pebbles in for drainage, drop in 4x4 post, level it, pour concrete and water about an inch below the lip ... done! Move over six feet. Repeat! Gavin had a great yard ... now he is getting a hella great yard. He may not need it ... I bet Gavin, Kevin, Jennifer and Jeffrey will all get along together just fine. Heck, who could know? I may need it one day on another Just In Case J.I.C. rescue. :)

Pretty good day if I can ever get my mind off the Parkland shooting. I have no answers and I do not understand. It is really bothering me. Normally, for me, hard physical labor rinses problems away. Hope I don't run out of posts and concrete just before the miracle happens.

Because I'm on break, I did get myself to the gym in the evening and did 45 min. at 3 mph on the treadmill (while working those arms), then a 5 min. cool down, and then 10 min. of stretching. I watched a movie I think called "The San Antonio Four"- on Hulu, I think. It is about four Latina lesbians wrongly convicted of a crime. It was painful to watch but a well-done documentary. My day off sparked a slightly different take at the gym. I planned on doing the elliptical for a warm up but didn't feel like being the butt piece of bread on the climbing line of worker outers so I opted for the treadmill in the shadows and next to no one.

Treadmill: 96 cal, .82 mi, 18:00 min

Then I finally headed back to the 30 minute circuit room. Since it's been a hot minute, I took it really slow and used lighter weight. I did two sets of 10 reps for each piece of equipment except for the ab crunch machine. I do crunches using two different angles so it hits more of my abdominal wall and I did 15 reps in one set of each angle.

That was followed up by a good stretch and a quick trip home. Once I got home, the weather was beautiful. The ground was still wet from the evening showers but the sky was clear and there was just the right amount of crisp in the air, so I decided to do a last minute jog.

That lasted all of about 300 feet, give or take. lol

Well, it was beautiful and I got a good workout in so I have no complaints.

It's been awhile since I posted here, but each time I go to physical therapy, I work with my therapy team on exercises to help me regain my mobility.....which each session is 1.5 hours of painstaking work, followed up by an half hour of massage and compression massage.

I am making progress. I can peddle on the bicycle machine for ten minutes and the machine measures the miles I have pedaled. Yesterday I pedaled 3.1 miles in twenty minutes.

I still can't exactly walk on my own yet without guided assistance, but I'm getting closer to divorcing myself from the roller-seat walker.

I don't know how many calories I burn while doing exercise therapy, but my muscles are on fire and I get overheated when I'm working with my PT team.

Once I'm able to walk unaided, I imagine it won't take long to reduce my weight back to my pre-work-related accident physical condition. Luckily I'm only 50 pounds over weight, so I'm not too worried about losing weight.

My biggest challenge is being able to walk unassisted.

I'm getting closer to that goal, each week that goes by.

Cheers to all of you for your efforts to stay active and in good health. :bouquet:

I took a break yesterday to try to get better more from the end of my cold. Today I went to the gym but kept it light: one hour on the treadmill at 2.5 mph. My ipad was down to 0 so I watched t.v. on the treadmill itself and discovered that I can watch youtube right on the machine. How cool is that.

I also talked to a gym friend named Taylor who said that she works as a house manager. I didn't really quite get it at first. And she said, "Imagine a house as big as a hotel but with one person living in it." So I guess she works for someone really, really rich!

I talked to my gym pal Judith too. She was having soup in the cafe. She said she was there only to go in the dry sauna, that there was not time to work out because the gym closes early on Fridays. I usually don't think about what time the gym closes but I guess she does because it is where she likes to stay all the time. She asked me lots of questions about my job (a social worker). Her questions and comments were pretty conservative and out of touch so I said, "Are you a democrat or a Republican or an Independent?" (What I've always REALLY wanted to ask is "Are you straight or gay or bisexual?"). She looked away a little like someone does when they're strategizing an answer. I had ended with "an Independent" so that she might feel more comfortable. She said, "I guess... Independent. I'm more Republican on some things." Well, no shit, as a social worker, I could figure that out. I did my best to educate her on the reality of the people I work with but it was out of her zone. She made some frustrating comments. At least she asked me a lot of questions, and, I hope, listened to my answers. Ugh, Republicans.

2/26

Elliptical: 176 cal, 1.39 mi, 18:00 min

I didn't feel like it, but I went and knocked out a decent workout.

2/27

Elliptical: 123 cal, .87 mi, 13:00 min

That was my warm up. I did a set of 13 reps on the circuit training with a little heavier weight on some of the machines.

A really nice stretch followed that and I was done.

Up at crazy o’clock, but made it to the gym a little later than normal because the inside of my car windows were iced up (fun times!)

I knew I was short on time, so I did a really hard 30min of treadmill hills at 3.4pace and then met my trainer for our weekly session. I did a nautilus and dumbbell circuit. I have spent the past five weeks focusing on upper body strength. But this morning - I was dying trying to do three full reps after the treadmill hills.

One of the things I love about seeing a trainer once a week (for the first time ever) is that she’s always showing me new equipment, things I would never touch on my own, and teaching me many variations for each muscle group.

Hello everyone,

NY, I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. Remember, our bodies heal most in our sleep.

Cricket, good for you. I am starting my research on Yoga. It's something I really want to start doing.

During this winter season, it has always rained during the night time. Today it's raining and I just couldn't hold myself back. I walked around the block and aimed for every water puddle lol. I washed my car in the rain and loved every second of it.

I had leftover energy, so I stretched and worked out.

Today I did,

120 Sit-ups
30 Mountain Climbers
30 Jumping Jacks
30 Squats
30 push ups.

Thank you everyone, for all your support. You have made a difference in my life, and I appreciate it very much.

I hope everyone has a beautiful day and keep it up. We are all doing great, as long as we don't stop. Everything in moderation.

I got up at 5 to go to the gym before work but ended up using that time to shovel snow...

But now I'm home early and will do 30 minutes or so on the rowing machine. My gym ended up closed for the day anyway.

Treadmill: 43 cal, .38 mi, 8 minutes with one running interval

I weight trained and did 2 sets of 12 reps each on all the machines and then stretched.

I've been itching to work out the past couple of days but the water here didn't get above barely lukewarm, the apartment was 35 this morning and I don't do public showers so there you go. No mid-storm workouts.

I got back into the gym this morning. It's been a few days and I was ready for it.

Elliptical: 173 cal, 1.31 mi, 18:00 min

Then, I went into the weight training circuit and did 1 set of 13 reps and followed that up with a thorough stretching session.

It felt really good. I was getting tight.

I've sweated off about 11 pounds since the beginning of the year. Yay!

Returning after two weeks away from my regular
routine...today back to the track and a 5mi walk
as I contemplated how great it feels to be moving
my body again. Yes, for two weeks I did no
movement to speak of...today, it was all about
"speaking" to my body and thanking it for
its ability to move, and its strength...gratitude.

Also, contemplated the idea of a marathon...we'll
see...why would I do it? One, my failed attempt in
2010 hurt, a lesson in importance of quality training
...and I simply love to run.

I have not exercised for about a month. It really took a lot out of me being sick. I tried going without an antibiotic only to finally go to my ENT who told me I had a raging sinus infection. A few days on the antibiotic and it was so much better under control. Along with that, work has been stressful.

Today at the gym felt great. I did one hour on the treadmill, about 3 mph, and then half an hour of weight lifting and stretching.

It was a quiet weekend and I caught up on sleep.

Oh, and I'm watching "Wild, wild Country" a doc show on a cult- on Netflix.

I worked out this morning and had my own personal adventure. I woke late and got to the gym around 8:45. They have one girl who is a normal, average girl in size and weight. She's much friendlier than the others

There were these two ladies who I've seen before. One's there to work out and does her thing and the other is there for conversation and girl time. She's typical NE woman. Late 80s/early 90s hair, sun fried skin, too much jewelry for the gym, wrong clothes for the gym (in this case, she wears bras with a light cami over it) and she doesn't understand personal space or what 'inside voice' means.

I wound up next to the yappy one, trying to practice my ability to tune her out. I knew they'd leave before I finished but they didn't do that until I was nearly finished so it was what it was. I did pretty good though.

Stats: 281 cal, 1.94 mi, 30:00 min

Honestly, I don't feel that I burned more than 200 calories so that elliptical was obviously in need of a calibration. It was okay though. I needed it. My neck and back and all my vertebrae have been getting squinchy lately and my body workload is out of whack due to the snow and shoveling. Even though I try and remember to switch up what side I shovel to/with, I tend to always revert back to my dominant side.

Hello all! Is there anyone here that has had any experience with those “balance board” things that your supposed to twist on? I saw them on Shark Tank and they are selling them in my local Walmart for $45. But I also saw knock offs at Ollie’s for $20. I read reviews online and they say it really works once you practice a bit and get the hang of balancing. This is the thing: I’m big and fat and I’m wondering if I will fall off and hurt myself???!!! We don’t have carpet in our house so if I hit the hard, laminate floor it’s gonna hurt like hell. The reviews say if you don’t have carpet the board will slide all over so they say to put a piece of carpet under it. I don’t want to waste my money but yet I thought it would be an easy exercise I can do. Our house is small so I don’t have room for a treadmill or exercise bike.

More importantly, it will ruin your floors if you don't put a carpet pad under it. It's plastic and will dig into your flooring and scar it as you twist it into the floor.

I've seen those too and wanted to try it but can't afford to ruin the carpet with pilling or a worn spot or scar the tiling. If you get it, let us know how it went!

Loaded and unloaded a ceiling fan and some fantastic wood I scavenged.

The ceiling fan is just for a few specific parts. I will throw away the rest. It is truely so ugly and would not have it even if boxed and brand new. LOL! It is the four high wattage ceramic sockets and wires I am interested in - fun creators for sure!! :)

The wood is a pallet that has unusual mighty fine pieces. I will disassemble it soon. It is so pristeen, no sanding will be necessary. Yay! I have grown to hate sanding!

Like Mrs. Butterworth, I took my own sweet time leaving home today for the gym. I ended up there around 5pm. I did 45 minutes on the treadmill at 3 mph and then 15 minutes of ab exercises on the floor and stretching. I watched "Wild, wild Country" - a great documentary netflix series about a cult. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a cult at the gym. The stretching feels so good that I feel almost hypnotized or mesmerized or something other worldly.

I had a very chilly but fun first outside bike ride of the year yesterday after work. I didn't get to go as far as I'd hoped because it turned out that the bike path I chose was under construction and I was blocked halfway through my planned ride by a huge fence so no one could enter the construction zone. I thought about going back to the trail head and doing the route again but the entire ride back was heavy head winds and rain was starting and the temps were going down to about 35. I decided a hot shower was what I really needed after that.

I'm registering for a 220 mile fundraising bike ride for young breast cancer survivors. Good motivation for me to be out there in all weather to train!

Started my run this am under a full bright blue Moon
without a definite distance...simply to run and go
until my body told me to turn around and head back.

It was freeing...and I thought about all the endings
I've had in my life, and the beginnings that led to
fullness, groundedness, balance, and Self-compassion.

Where am I going with these lines? Same as with my
running this morning, simply to feel, think and go until
the words tell me it's time to turn and head to where
my Soul intends to go. A 7mi run in the desert under a
full bright and blue Moon can be moving in more ways

I got back into weight training this morning. My warmup was on the elliptical.

Stats: 84 cal, .55 mi, 9 min

I ventured into the circuit training room and did 2 sets of 12 reps on each piece of equipment using higher ends of my lifting spectrum so I expect that I'll be a wee bit tender tomorrow.

Good news is that I'll be shoveling snow tomorrow so I won't be able to tell my workout aches from my shoveling snow aches. There's been a storm the first week of April every year I've been here. The good news is that this should be the last one....*crosses fingers*

My workout was followed by some seriously good stretching. I brought my mat back into the circuit room, which was cool and quiet except for the music. Very enjoyable!

I had a funny experience and it's semi-workout related so I'm going to import the story from the smile thread. See below!

I was walking into the store and still had my workout gear on, including my long shirt that says, "Abs are great, but have you tried donuts?". A guy was pulling his car out into the main driving area in front of the store and stopped his car to comment on my shirt and laugh. I've gotten quite a bit of feedback from this shirt and really enjoy the conversations that it initiates. Total smile moment!
