Had a good ride this morning while watching another biking video through the Italian Alps and listening to the late saxophonist, Michael Brecker (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23_4uAn8naw). Again I had a hard time finding my groove, and again it all came together once I turned off the news and plugged into some music. Rode 6.4 miles in 31 minutes 38 seconds. Last weeks numbers, including today, are:
– Rode 43.7 miles in 3.4 hours
– Completed 240 arm rolls
One of the things I've come to like about riding is that I never know what kind of ride I'll have till I get into it — no matter what my intentions are. I may plan on taking it easy and end up having an intense ride or I may plan on having a good cardio ride and just end up having an easy-peasy ride. Doesn't make much difference since my goal is to ride and move regardless of the intensity.

Had an okay ride this morning while watching one of the morning chat shows. Rode 5.5 miles in 30 minutes. That's the best I've done this week. It's hard for me to ride when I'm unusually sad. I understand. I tend to shut down extreme feelings, or at least I try to. Unfortunately, almost everything else shuts down too.
But something that surprised me is finding that I can't ride while listening or watching funny comedy skits. A week or so ago I was listening to Richard Pryor and had to get off the bike. These were jokes I've heard hundreds of times and I wasn't even laughing very hard, but laughing at all affected my ride and I just couldn't go on. Go figger.

Elliptical: 121 cal, .82 mi, 14:59 min, 18:13 pace, level 12 followed by 30 minutes of personal training and then another bout on the elliptical: 244 cal, 1.73 mi, 30:01 min, 17:17 pace, level 12.
6/9
Elliptical: 64 cal, .46 mi, 9:00 min, 19:29 pace, level 12 followed by 30 minutes of personal training and then round two on the elliptical: 229 cal, 1.69 mi, 30:00 min, 17:42 pace, level 12.
6/16
Elliptical: 118 cal, .92 mi, 18:01 min, 19:34 pace, level 12 followed by 30 minutes of personal training and then we rinse, lather and repeat on the elliptical: 86 cal, .64 mi, 12:00 min, 18:50 pace, level 12.
I have a missing documentation for one workout but it's basically the same as what I've listed so far.
6/28
Elliptical: 171 cal, 1.30 mi, 23:01 min, 17:44 pace, level 12 followed by 30 minutes of personal training and more elliptical: 165 cal, 1.35 mi, 25:00 min, 18:28 pace, level 12.
7/1
Elliptical: 296 cal, 2.20 mi, 35:00 min, 15:53 pace, level 13. I used a different program to break up the monotony.
7/2
Elliptical: 181 cal, 1.54 mi, 25:00 min, 16:13 pace, level 10. New program still. Then, I hopped on the water rower but there's something wonky with it. The pull strap was making noises like it needed to be lubricated and two of the measurements was not showing up on the screen. Water rower: 40 stroke rate, 12.0 intensity (mph), 1.1 miles and 6 min total. The sound of the belt was too annoying to stay on it any longer.
7/3
Elliptical: 141 cal, 1.27 mi, 20:00 min, 15:42 pace, level 11 followed by approximately 45 min of circuit training and then more elliptical: 170 cal, 1.44 mi, 25:00 min, 17:23 pace, level 11.
I've gone back to my 6 day a week regimen. It is fine so far.

– Completed 220 small-circle arm rolls

Had a good ride this morning and some okay rides this week.
Haven't been enjoying my rides lately. So I made an adjustment to one goal and it made a difference.
Instead of aiming to ride 30-minute/6 miles, I've returned to my 5-mile goal that can be completed in any amount of time. It's the small shift I needed to make riding more enjoyable. I can always increase the time or milage later.
This week's numbers, including today are:
– Rode 29.2 miles in 2 hrs 25 minutes
– 65 arm rolls

Haven't rode in days because of a UTI but saw a nurse yesterday and am already better. Thank goodness.
I seldom take long breaks from riding because I worry that I might not ever want to get back on the bike if I'm away too long, but that hasn't happened yet.

Had a good ride this morning while watching the Queen's procession on Sky Live News on Pluto. What a difference between the US and the UK coverage. We cannot let a second go by without filling it with chatter. The UK, on the other hand, has no problem with moments of silence. I know, complaints, complaints.
Anyway, I'm feelin' like I'm back in the saddle after not riding for awhile and it feels good.
Rode 5 miles in 24.5 minutes. Could do better, but could do a lot worse.

Hello exercisers :balloon:
With all the changes I have weathered (work wise and in my personal life), I still get a lot of walking in during the days I work. At work, it's like an ER: Feast or Famine (client wise). Sometimes at work, depending on how busy we are, I am gently surprised by how many miles I have logged. One day, a few weeks ago, back in late August, we were so busy that I logged slightly over 9 miles in steps. I was like, "wow, how did I ever do that?", lol.
On my days off, I usually get some walking in and some other types of body exercise when I dust the house down or sweep and mop or vacuum the rugs.
I have to say, my partner loves to hold me and dance with me at home. And his dance moves surprise me and leave me breathless, often times, lol. Having mobility issues and trusting my partner when he dances me across the floors is helping me to overcome some of my trust issues. Like trusting that I won't fall, when I have fallen several times this year already.
Anyway.... I am keeping with trust building skills and keeping up with demands on my health that is sometimes daunting.
Keeping up with you all, when I can, --K. :rrose:

Good on you with the walking and dancing, Katzchen. I envy you being able to walk and dance. I hope to be able to after I get knee surgery. In the meantime I'll keep going on my bike.

J is in better shape but fatter. I weigh less but huff and puff more than she does. If it isn't one thing it's another. So we're walking. Once a week, at the park forcing ourselves, another day strolling through the farmers market or hitting the stores browsing indoors. The third day of the week we just get up and about. Maybe go to lunch or take the boy to library play time, or story book hour or do some craft or cleaning decluttering project at home. Just anything to get us up and moving. It's too easy to just park it in front of the computer or television and barely get up, stayed seated most of the day.

Good morning, to all of you who come by to read posts on how we are doing with our daily exercise. I'm here to do my part and share about how I am doing.
Sooooo, my Fitbit watch updated itself about a week ago. LOL, it now sends text reminders to me about special things I achieve while on duty at work (I only wear my Fitbit on the days I work).
Here is how I did last week:
My best day of steps was last Saturday. 18,384K steps while on duty.
Total steps for the week: 59K+
AVG Calorie burn: 3,280 calories,
Active Zone Minutes: 289 minutes.
I eat less than I burn off during a workday, so this is most likely why I am losing small increments of weight on a regular basis. I am within a weight range that I have not seen since I was in my late 20's. When I am under 190 lbs, I will throw a party. Right now I am 222 lbs. I am not as tall as I was back in my youthful years: I have lost three inches in height due to bone density issues as I age: I was 5'11", now I am 5'8". :jester:
I have hip and knee issues due to aging related stuff but I also have the continued fallout from the work related injuries I suffered from, back in November of 2016. Six years ago, in three weeks from now, was the day my whole life was upended in a near-fatal traffic accident while on the job for a former employer. I still cannot walk like I used to, but I can walk. It is a challenge, daily.
Anyhooooo, this is my update and check in and just know that I am grateful for life, every day.
Sending tons of exercise JuJu to all,
~K. :hk2:

Got outside and walked - with intermittent sitting - for 25 minutes today. The dog got more exercise than I did, leaping up and down through the ivy-covered ditch on the side of the road with great glee. She also really enjoyed her brush down when we were done.

Did a lot of work around the femme cave yesterday and wasn't sure I'd make it on the bike this morning but I did and it was okay. Better than what I though it would be. My hips and knees were aching when I went to bed last night but are better after moving around this morning and riding on the bike.
Thought I might have a "give it up" ride and stop midway, but I met my 5-mile goal. Video and/or audio stimulation is a must for me on most exercise days. Thank goodness I have a good supply.

Just here to give a short report on the data from my Fitbit watch I wore all last week:
Total steps (wed-sun): 76,665

Total miles walked in steps: 34.4 miles
Total calories burned daily: 2,966 (672 calorie burn over last week)
Total active zone minutes: 460
I have a few errands today, to accomplish: Dr Appt, stop by my new workplace and finish paperwork, then drop by to visit a friend at their workplace and have a small supper (Taco Tuesday!) and a Strawberry margarita (my once a month treat) and watch a baseball game on a cable sports channel.
Stay the course, Orema. Way to go (!), concerning riding your bike. Nice job.

Didn't get in much "exercise" today as I had a full day and am now totally worn out. Woke up two hours early and did three hours of whirlwind cleaning around the house. Took Brittany back to the adoption place for a vet visit and finalization of her adoption papers - this involved getting a reluctant dog into and out of my car, twice, along with my rollator, and walking with Brittany, who is not yet used to walking with me and my rollator, especially in a strange place. At the adoption place, it involved holding onto a dog leash, calming Brittany (who was actually pretty good), and simultaneously completing a form on my phone, writing on paper with a pen, getting instructions from the vet tech and the receptionist, and dealing with every single person who wanted to come up and pet her.
It doesn't sound like a lot, but it was a lot. I came home and slept for five hours. Now I am almost rested enough to go to bed.
Brittany and I are going to have to do more longer walks with the rollator.

Since July, 2021, I’ve been doing 10,000 steps a day on my Fitbit. I get a bunch at work and then finish them off at the gym. I watch shows on my iPad while I do it. I also do arm exercises while I do it. I really love it all. There is one woman in particular, who is always at the treadmills with me. I don’t know her name and have always referred to her in my mind as “Sheepdog.” The reason is because she looks and acts very much like a sheepdog. It’s an affectionate nickname. She is older like me but unlike me she is lean. She has shortish but floppy hair that kind of bounces while she jogs contributing to her nickname. She never wears make up or dresses up. I had lesbian hopes for her when I first came upon her but she wears these very religious shirts that just vibe me like she may very well be straight. She’s kind of the only one who exercises more than me at the gym on those treadmills. She only jogs and runs, and the style in which she moves reminds me very much of a sheepdog. We’re generally all business but have only recently started to smile at each other a bit. The smile signifies to each other, “Hey, buddy, we are the ones always on the treadmills every single day.”

I get steps in everyday, but I don't always wear my Fitbit watch. Love that post, Katzchen. Hoping everyone else has a nice holiday weekend, too.
Had an unexpectedly good ride this morning. I've been draggin' since yesterday from taking melatonin on Wednesday night. It's the first time in weeks I've taken melatonin because my homemade edibles are potent enough on their own. Anyway, I was draggin and didn't ride yesterday and didn't want to ride today, but I got on the bike and clocked in 5 miles in 21m 5s. The difference today is that I didn't listen to news, podcasts, audio books, etc. I only listened to music and it fueled my ride, I guess.
It was a good ride while llistening to music and watching segments of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Absolutely beautiful animals.

I killed it this morning. Pulled out one of my old playlists that I haven't listened to since Jan 2022 and clocked in 5 miles in 19m and 51s.
I stopped drinking for Lent, March 2022, and never picked it back up. I think that has a lot to do with me being able to tackle that playlist again. I can't even drink 1 glass of wine without it affecting my energy level and blood pressure the next day. I don't know if it's being post-menopausal or just old age, but it effects how I exercise.
Was able to accomplish some large-circle arm rolls this morning, but I'm having arthritic pain in my shoulder and stopped. Am still learning the kind of pain I can move through while exercising and the kind of pain I should stop pressing. If I wince, then I stop. If I don't wince then I try to stick with it. There's probably a better way to gauge this, but it works for me.

Had a good ride this morning. Clocked in 5 miles just short of 22 mins.
As soon as I got on the bike I started in a cardio mode (15-16 mph) but slowed down after a couple minutes. I usually start off slowly (11-13 mph) and gradually increase my speed. I just switched it up this morning to see how it would feel and it was okay.
Watched another stretch of the Tour de France bikers and those guys are amazing—at times ruthless and amazing.

Had a great ride this morning as I've been having lately. Changed things up a bit. Am riding 45 minutes earlier, have gone back to my exercise playlists, and am doing some arm rolls. The pain has left my shoulder but I'm sure it will crop up somewhere else soon. Am thinking of adding in some crunches soon. We'll see.
I'm often making minor changes and tweaks. Flexibility is a gift from above (or below?).

Had a great ride this morning. Rode 5 miles in just under 21 minutes while watching the Tour de France bikers head into hilly Lausanne (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYzo4Pr-xUA) and listening to EWF and those badass Emotions (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=god7hAPv8f0).
Had a lousy ride yesterday. I shouldn't have even tried. Had medicare radiology imaging payments on my mind and gave up after riding 3 miles. Usually if I get that far into a ride I don't give up, but I cannot ride if I'm really worried about something, laughing hard, or crying. And my last imaging payment was on my mind somethin' fierce.
But today was much better.

Had another good ride this morning. Before I knew it I was a half mile past my goal. At one point I was going so fast the girls were moving. Reminded me of Mr. Mayhem on his bike.
I mixed it up again and started at a cardio speed. Worked well.
Am thinking of pumping iron though it's really a pipe dream. ;->

Gave up ride this morning. Didn't want to ride and couldn't find any nice spots once I got on the bike. I had a decent start but gave up after 3 miles.
Giving up and not feeling guilty about it makes it so much easier for me to give it a try again tomorrow.
Years ago when I tried to take up exercising I'd feel so bad if I gave up and would not want to start again to avoid the guilt. I no longer have that problem.
Anyway, any movement burns calories.

New year, new workout routine....I'm going to try something new....actually having a routine. I haven't been to the gym since August! No wonder I haven't felt great lately.
January 1, 2023
Elliptical: 513 calories burned, 4.26 miles completed, 65:00 minutes, 15:14 average pace, 4 minutes of energy used to light that darn bulb
Initially, I wasn't having a good time. I hopped on the elliptical and started off and got winded quick. I looked down to see how much time had passed and it was only 5 minutes. Oy. :|
After that, it got better. I think I put my body in shock it's been so long since I've been on a machine. I walk a LOT at work and do quite a bit of manual labor type stuff, which usually puts me somewhere in the 15,000-20,000 step a day range---which is great---but it's not the same motion as working on a machine.
I also did something I haven't done in years, just because. For some, especially those who've struggled with eating and/or exercise disorders, this would most likely not be a good idea but I weigh myself daily. I like to see the natural fluctuations of my body and I can catch upswings faster than if I did it weekly. That's not the thing, though.
I used to weigh myself first thing in the morning and then after my workout when I had early morning workouts. I found it very interesting to see what transpires in my body when I stress it physically plus there's the water intake to consider. Some days, I would break even and some days I would be a little under in the second reading. It was rare that I would come back with a higher number than when I did it the first time unless it was excessively hot and/or I had an excessively long workout, both of which would lead to a higher water consumption.
Today, I came back 2 ounces lighter than when I left home and I drank close to 8 ounces of water during the workout. Yes, I was a wee bit sweaty during the workout.
Though I do find it a bit fascinating how the body functions when I work out, it's all for naught, because as soon as I get back, I eat well and drink at least 16 ounces of juice and water.
But I can compare today's numbers to next quarter's numbers and so on. I really like being able to see the results of my hard work, both short and long term.

Gosh, that is certainly food for thought. I've occasionally pondered a similar question: If I knew I wouldn't hurt at all for one day, what would I do? Would I clean my house from top to bottom? Or would I go out and do something in the world? Would I do something useful whose results would last past the single day? Or would I go and purely have fun and enjoyment?

Congrats on getting your knee surgery, Orema. Maybe in two years I will be eligible to get my knees and one hip fixed. So excited for you, my friend.
I return to my weekly work schedule today. We are super busy at work. I average about 9 miles of walking each day I work.
Going to move soon, we hope, so lots of intense moving exercise coming up before summer.

I'm giving up smoking weed for the edibles till after the knee surgery. That may have something to do with the good ride this morning.

I haven't been in the gym in about a month. I'm really struggling with some issues that have triggered a nasty bout of depression and there won't be any gym workouts until I can drag myself out of it.

According to the Fitbit watch I wear daily, and according to the weekly log of stats on Fitbit, I walked more than 22K steps per day this past week.... for a weekly total of around (plus or minus) 110K steps (at work alone).
I also, one day a week, ref a community basketball game that takes place on my first day off (usually in the late afternoon, before dinner time).
And I go to the gym once a week to do yoga and swim in the pool.
My knees are not in the best of shape. I often go have the bones in my body adjusted on a twice a month basis. This helps, but I too will need knee and hip surgery, in the near future.
Leaving wellness wishes for all,

Walked a total of 3 blocks this morning. The third time I've done it this week. Feels good when I start, but I'm glad it's over by the time I get home.
Before the surgery I couldn't walk a half block without crazy pain, so it's feels good to knock off 3 blocks at once without much pain.
My current goal is to walk around the block. I might be able to do that in a week or two. For now, I'm just sticking to 3 blocks.
And I gotta start carrying my cane. No telling when a pissed off goose or a scared deer might roll up on me.

I did some walking around the upstairs of my house without a walker last night. My sense of balance has started to come back, just a bit; it was slow going. But I was able to do it without holding onto the walls and doorknobs, and more importantly, without falling down.
I'm still reserving the stairs for when I absolutely must leave the house, like for doctors' appointments and PT. I still have to scoot down on my butt. Going up the stairs, there's always the question "Will I have to sit on a step halfway, or can I climb all nine steps in a single go?" I count every excruciating step every time I do it. ("You've done five, you can do six. You've done six, you're two thirds of the way up.") But I DO it. When I have to.
I never thought a little kidney problem (ha!) would wipe me out so much. Lesson learned. Oh, BTW, another lesson learned - you can NOT take as much Benadryl as you want. (Follow those directions! And don't believe some former doctor from Germany who can't get a medical license in the U.S. when they tell you otherwise. Not even if they are now a nurse practitioner.)

I spent about 2.5 hours walking around the art festival and to and from my car this morning and early afternoon as well as some walking later today.
That's a great way to get some exercise. My problem is that I'd spend too much money the way I've been spending this month. Glad you found the goodies you wrote about in another thread.
And I had a good ride this morning. My new average is 35 minutes and 7.5 miles a ride. My goal is to get to 45 minutes at least once a week. Maybe I'll meet that goal and maybe I won't, we'll see. Would be good if I could do 45 min a day, but I'm not ready to set that for a goal. These days my goals are based on time and not speed nor miles. I just want to keep these knees cycling for at least 35 minutes on the days I ride.
I bought a stair stepper (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BNJZL4LP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) during Amazon Prime. I don't have steps and seldom use them, so I'm hoping this will help strengthen the knees and develop my glutes. We'll see.
Hoping everyone is doing well and getting in a step or two each day.

I've been walking all over the place! I finally gave in and got cortisone shots in my knees (with which I also received a lengthy lecture about having bariatric surgery and losing weight) and it was worth it. My knees haven't felt this good in a long time. I understand it will wear off and there's a limit to how often I can get the shots, but for now, I'm really enjoying going places I've avoided for years and being outside.

I actually made it to the gym on Thursday and did about 45 minutes on the elliptical and all was good but the endorphins were setting in and it suddenly seemed like a good idea to do some ab work too.
I haven't worked my core outside of work in so long that I cannot give an accurate time frame. This was *not* a good idea but I wound up doing some incline crunches for both the upper and lower abs. Lower abs, fine. Upper abs, bad idea. I was already tender and sore Thursday night and it was not easy standing straight up for the next two days either because I forgot to stretch afterwards and they got tight. They are okay today, though, so I guess it's time to get back in there and work them again. *whimper*

I went to physical therapy today. I was able to get through it pretty well, and I only had to stop a couple of times to catch my breath before finishing out a set. In addition to putting hot towels on my shoulder (what the PT is for), they very kindly offered to put hot towels on my knees too. That part was great.
The hard part was getting there. I very nearly didn't go. I kept having to break up the actions into smaller steps: "Okay, you may or may not go to PT, but at least you can take a shower." "Okay, you may or may not go, but you can at least pick out some clothes." "Okay, you walked downstairs, so you're halfway there, you might as well go." Even driving there, I was like, "If there's not a handicapped spot by the door, you can turn around and go home."
But I made it. Yay me!

I can combine exercises within my daily life. Or else...I keep finding things to do.
A few afternoon storms will be heading my way, hoping to cool it off, so I can get my bike out later this evening.
Still moving my belt notches over, or else I loose my britches. Yay me!

Had another good ride on the bike this morning. Better than the last couple days when I just wasn't feelin' it. Got in a bunch of small-circle arm rolls and am feeling stronger in my upper body. I hadn't been feeling weak, but I noticed that the arm rolls are getting easier.
Walked sweet Bella a couple mornings this week but she's only 7 lbs so we only go on short walks. Still, it's a few more steps to add to my day.

Had an okay ride before the sun rose. Got up earlier than usual, but that's cool. Stopped riding just as the sun was coming up and the sky started changing to a rose color.
Will a get a few steps on the clock when I go out today.
Have been watching a Master Class at HooplaDigital.com as I ride, but I've checked out my monthly limit of books and movies. Will listen to Michael Harriot's history book or some youtube vids for the rest of the month.
Hope y'all get in a few steps this week.

Thanks Orema, glad to hear your progress report. I’ve been getting about 16K — 18K steps a day or better. But it just makes me hungry and I’ve yet to see any real positive side effects to all these steps I keep walking, lol. :|
If I successfully get signed up for Medicare, I hear they give us an “allowance” to pay for a gym membership. I’m going to see if I can do the one type of membership that allows me to get Red Light Therapy. R. L. T. Has many benefits. For example, exposure to Red Light stimulates your body’s own collagen and it improves how your joints can move, and it aids in dealing with seasonal affective disorder which improves your mental health outlook. I’ve heard Planet Fitness is a good gym choice. We shall see.
Happy almost October. :wine::bunchflowers:🎃🍁🍁🍁

I really like a podcast called "Science Vs". They look at different popular beliefs and compare them to the scientific evidence. They list their sources in the transcript and there are usually over 100. This past season they did one on "Exercise".
It was really eye-opening. One belief they disproved (mostly) is that exercise makes you lose weight. Apparently it takes a lot more exercise than people think to lose weight, and even then it isn't much. However, they did find a lot of evidence that exercise considerably prevents heart disease and cancer.
So you are probably doing lots of good with your exercise. It's just not noticeable without running some medical tests (and who wants to do that?).

Good on you, Katz, getting in so many steps in a day! It must feel good.
I have medicare and Planet Fitness comes with the medicare plan I have (see link below). I haven't tried Planet Fitness yet, but will at some time. I have issues about gyms, but I plan on checking it out over the next year.
Here is a link I've found that's invaluable once I got on medicare.
https://www.ehealthinsurance.com/medicare/
I chose a plan that worked for my needs. You and GM may want to check out this link if you haven't already.

Had a lovely walk with sweet Bella and her owner this morning before the sun rose. I think we walked .25 mile, but I'm not sure because I didn't set my watch. We'll probably walk again this evening. We're tryna get in as many walks as possible before the s-n-o-w comes. (People in these parts don't like saying that word and often spell it out. Cracks me up, but I play along... sometimes LOL).
Also got some spins on my bike as the sun rose.
Hoping y'all get to move some of those joints today.

Hey hey, sweet friend up in Michigan!
Thank you for that link !! I appreciate you!
I’m actually worried about you for this coming winter months. I’m certain your area and eastward toward the Atlantic interior states will get hit with unmerciful rounds of winter snow. Out here on the west coast, we will be edging toward dryer conditions which will tender our area with fire weather conditions. We just got a week of rain that we haven’t had in nearly a year and Mt Hood has no marshmallow snow covering at all. Our water supply comes off that mountain (volcano) so no snow means no water. Terribly concerning, it is.
Glad to hear you got out for a stroll with Bella. ☺️
Thanks again for the Medicare fitness link!!
Big hugs to you!! 🤗😘☺️

Weight loss comes down to 80% food and nutritional intake and 20% exercise and physical movement. I can spend 2 hours per day exercising and burning tons of calories but if I'm jamming 4000+ calories a day down my gullet, it won't change a thing.
Katz, look at it this way; regular movement keeps the joints lubricated and you are far less likely to experience sciatica issues or general stiffness by boot scooting all over the place every day. I am getting at least 20,000 steps in every day I work and over 12,000 on my days off. Lately, I'm getting even more at work because I'm going back and forth between two separate properties and that's a lot of hoofing it.
If anyone is like me in that re/starting an exercise program and/or getting back into the gym takes an extra push, keep in mind that October 1st falls on a Sunday this year. The first is always a good day to start a new program and most folks have more time on the weekends to truly give something a chance so it seems like the perfect time to start something or at least try something new.
If someone wants accountability, I'll be doing it and will be checking back in here a few times a week to report my progress.

Well, I did it! I dragged myself to the gym at o'dark thirty this morning and did a full set. Half an hour on the elliptical (and, boy, could I tell I hadn't worked out in a while!), half an hour of light to moderate weight training using the circuit machines and finishing with another 15 minutes on the elliptical to stretch everything out a bit and cool down.
I'm not using a notebook like I did before to keep track of my stats but the two elliptical jaunts together gave me a figure around 315 calories, which likely translates to about 250 calories burned using an average of 20% off for inaccuracy and miscalculation of the machine. Those things are always set to skew upwards in terms of caloric burn plus every ride is different so there's no way it's going to be 100% accurate for everyone, even if it was just calibrated.
I hoped to use the Evolt machine to get a more accurate starting point for myself as one of the trainers gave me the code to it a while ago but someone changed it so that was a bust. Unfortunately, that was the whole point of getting up so darn early today so I wasn't pleased about that.
I wound up getting home, making and finishing breakfast before the sun came up. A quick shower followed by a nap got me on the right foot to do something productive with the remainder of my day.
My next day off is Thursday so the days in between will likely consist of short workouts of 30 minutes or less; just enough to say I went and did something but not enough to take up all of my free time.
What are you doing today?

I've got a few things in common with you on this, but not much :)
I too am getting up early in the morning before the sun rises and, though you're not using your notebook, I've stop keeping track of my daily exercises all together. I kept notes every day for a couple years and it's good to take a break. I'll probably pick it up closer to the December holidays.
Thanks for the report on your gym activities. I have a membership to a gym with medicare, but haven't used it yet. Will look into it next year after I spend a few more months recuperating.
This morning I had a really good ride on the bike. My speed got as high as 17.5 mph and I kept it up for 3 minutes. Good on me.
I like getting in a short walk and ride on the bike in the same day, but I have to do the walk first. The knees don't like long walks after a 5 mile ride. Hopefully, that will change with time.
That's what I did today, what about y'all?

True to my word, I had a short workout tonight. For one, I got out of work late and didn't want to get too wound up or I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight. Two, I am tired. To the bone kind of tired. Three, my arms are rubber from yesterday's workout and even though I stretched, they have ached all day. Oh, the joy of jumping back into a program.
Anyway, tonight was the elliptical. 30 minutes plus 5 for a cool down. The motion was a nice stretch for the arms and I was able to zone out, close my eyes and listen to my music. I didn't want to get all sweaty so I kept it at a steady 3.4-3.5 mph until more people showed up and the gym got warm and then I dropped it down to about 3.2 mph. 255 calories aka +/- 200 calories burned.

Almost 3 and a quarter miles in 45 minutes with an average of 14.04 minutes per mile. Taking 20% off the top leaves me with approximately 293 calories burned.
Also, there was a fire truck outside a restaurant in the plaza where my gym is located, which was quickly followed by an ambulance. I guess the linguini didn't agree with someone...

I got waylaid by life and didn't post my stats BUT I have been to the gym EVERY SINGLE DAY of October so far. My gym has a chalkboard at the entrance and they celebrate those with the highest number of workout days and you bettah believe that I want my name on that board because it sits there ALLLLL month long until the next update and there's only two women on the board now out of 12, I think. I want to be THE female to be on top and I'm halfway there, peeps!
I'll break it up since I have so many to do and extra long posts tend to time out on me so it'll take 2-3 to get caught up until today.
Here we go!
October 4th
217 calories
1.73 miles
30 minutes
17:18 average pace
1 minute of light bulb energy
This equates to 2257 feet climbed, an average speed of 3.5 mph and 43 RPM.
October 5th
I started with the rower this day and moved to the elliptical for the cooldown.
Rower: 40 min with a work for 2 min, rest for 10-30 sec pattern that continued throughout the full workout. 366 calories, 32 s/m (strokes per minute), 7072 meters
Note: the rower is fun but hard for me as the compression on my middle makes me wish I have never eaten food at all so there was zero water intake during this ride and it was a sweaty, lactic acid kind of ride for me. I was miserable but happy in a way (endorphins, I guess) and pleased with my final numbers.
Elliptical: 29 calories, .24 miles, 20:33 pace, 0 light bulb minutes b/c there was no intensity in the cooldown, 253 feet climbed, 2.9 mph, 36 RPM
October 6th
222 calories
1.85 miles
30 minutes
16:12 pace
1 minute of light bulb time
and....I missed the rest of the stats. I take a photo of the screen now and I got into the workout a little too much that I missed it before the screen changed over. Boo.

October 7th
555 calories
3.81 miles
65 minutes
17:02 pace
29 minutes of light bulb time, which tells you that this ride had some intensity
6411 feet climbed
3.5 mph
44 RPM
This was a long, intense ride and I was definitely a salty mess afterwards but it felt really good, especially since I'm trying to use this opportunity to release some of my work stress. It rained this day. I remember that b/c I wanted to go to the art festival but not when it's pouring since the vendors are outside.
October 8th
41 calories, .34 miles, 5 min, 14:58 pace, zero light bulb minutes, 451 feet climbed, 4.0 mph, 49 RPM (warm up)
30 minutes-ish of weight training
35 calories, .28 miles, 5 min, 17:58 pace, zero light bulb minutes, 354 feet climbed, 3.3 mph, 43. RPM (cool down)
Note: I actually got up there in speed (for me) in the warm up. The pace says, "I'm here to work" too. Look at me go!
This was the day I went to the art festival so I just wanted to get in and get out. No fuss, no muss because I knew I had miles of walking ahead to me as a secondary kind of 'workout'.
October 9th
407 calories
3.31 miles
55 minutes
16:36 pace
2 minutes of light bulb energy
4308 feet climbed
3.6 mph
45 RPM
I took this day off of work (holiday pay!) so I had more time and I feel that I made good use of it.
October 10th
238 calories
1.87 miles
30 minutes
16:03 pace
7 minutes of light bulb energy
2684 feet climbed, 3.7 mph, 46 RPM
I don't remember this workout specifically but, from the numbers, I did pretty good with it. The workouts after work are especially tough. I'll come in and yawn for the first 10 minutes, I'm so tired, but I usually perk up the second half. Some days are truly a struggle bus, though.
October 11th
501 calories
4.11 miles
65 minutes
15:49 pace
2 minutes of light bulb energy
5448 feet climbed
3.8 mph
46 RPM
This was a really good one!

Rower: 11 minutes, 105 calories, 31 s/m
96 calories, .79 miles, 15 minutes, 18:56 pace, zero light bulb minutes, 939 feet climbed, 3.2 mph, 40 RPM (cool down)
October 13th-FRIDAY!!!
217 calories
1.77 miles
30 minutes
16:58 pace
1 minute of light bulb energy
2339 feet climbed
3.5 mph
44 RPM
This one was tough, I remember. I dragged myself to the gym and just kind of dragged myself home afterwards.
October 14th
353 calories
2.52 miles
45 minutes
17:52 pace
7 minutes of light bulb energy
3571 feet climbed
3.4 mph
42 RPM
October 15th
406 calories
2.83 miles
45 minutes
15:54 pace
26 minutes of light bulb energy--SUPER intensity today!
4819 feet climbed
3.8 mph
46 RPM
Now, I know there's a discrepancy between what the figures show and what my body actually burns, but not today, dammit. Not today, Satan, not today!!! I EARNED every single calorie and burned each and every one of them in my own little bonfire. They went screaming all the way, too. It was a tough start and the intensity really slowed me down in the middle but I feel like I crushed this workout and nothing's going to tell me differently.

October 17th
245 calories, 1.98 miles, 35 minutes, 17:39 pace, 1 minute of light bulb energy, 2482 feet climbed, 3.4 mph, 42 rpm.
October 18th
243 calories, 2.20 miles, 30 minutes, 13:39 pace, 5 minutes of light bulb energy, 2721 feet climbed, 4.4 mph, 51 rpm.
Now, the past two days were similar but it's interesting to look back and compare. I can see that I clearly worked harder on Wednesday than Tuesday. While the calorie burn is nearly identical, I had less time on Wednesday but the pace was exactly four minutes faster, I climbed more, was 1 mph faster and had 9 more revolutions per minute for that half an hour. I definitely broke a sweat on the last workout.
October 19th
93 calories, .73 miles, 11 minutes, 14:58 pace, 4 minutes of light bulb energy, 1.65 feet climbed, 4.0 mph, 48 rpm. Warm up.
Weight training-30 minutes
75 calories, .66 miles, 10 minutes, 15:10 pace, 0 minutes of light bulb energy, 824 feet climbed, 4.0 mph, 48 rpm. Cool down.
October 20th
160 calories, 1.36 miles, 25 minutes, 18:19 pace, 1 minute of light bulb energy, 1597 feet climbed, 3.3 mph, 41 rpm.
I'm not sure how I got the light bulb energy because I was dragging this workout and just over life in general. I had little to no intensity so that's why the mph and rpm are still decent but, yeah, I skated this workout. Better than nothing, though.
October 21st
291 calories, 2.58 miles, 35 minutes, 13:33 pace, 18 minutes of light bulb energy, 3432 feet climbed, 4.4 mph, 52 rpm.
Now, this workout was also going to be a basic show up and do something workout, but once I hopped onto the elliptical, my body decided it needed more so I went with it. You can tell by the light bulb energy that I busted my keister since that only shows up when there's a high intensity or additional resistance used. This one definitely balanced out the previous workout.
October 22nd
113 calories, .96 miles, 15 minutes, 15:31 pace, 2 minutes of light bulb energy, 1264 feet climbed, 3.9 mph, 47 rpm--warm up
Weight training-35 minutes
72 calories, .56 miles, 10 minutes, 17:44 pace, 0 minutes of light bulb energy, 778 feet climbed, 3.4 mph, 42 rpm.
I just have 9 more days to go to fulfill my goal of hitting the gym every single day in October. I call it my 31 day challenge. That's exciting to me because it's so hard to dig up the motivation to go after a 10 hour day but my life is so chaotic right now that I really needed to have something that I could succeed at with a reasonable amount of control involved. Nothing too wild but just something that I had some sort of power over and it's just a benefit that it's something that is good for my physical wellbeing. Not sure if anyone is feeling this way now but work has me rethinking things. If I had an alternate source for housing lined up, I would turn in my resignation in a heartbeat and that makes me really sad. I had every intention of retiring with my previous employer before they sold out. Anyway, this is what is on my mind when I'm whirling away on the elliptical.
So, what did you do today?

My current goal is to do at least this much every week till the end of the month, but I won't beat myself up if I don't meet this goal.
I like outside stimuli when cycling indoors. This morning I listened to an audio book on American History while watching the squirrels and birds take advantage of the melting snow. This helps my ride go by more quickly. I'm not here for mindful exercising just yet.
Hoping y'all are getting in a step or two.

Had a nice and slow ride this morning. Had a sore lower-back ache from moving small-ish pieces of furniture yesterday. I didn't really want to ride, but I didn't ride yesterday and once I got on the bike I found a nice and steady pace. This week I...
– Rode 24.1 miles in 1hr 36 min
– Did 100 arm rolls
My rides this week were much better than last week. I'm not sure why, but I had fast and high-speed rides on a couple days that felt really good. Whatever the case, I'm going with the flow.

Had a good workout this morning. Didn't ride the bike today but used the stair-stepper. Have been using the stair-stepper most of the week because my knees are doing pretty good (just a little swelling though some stiffness in the evenings) but my glutes needed attention.
Stretching and the stair-stepper is helping but I'm still sore. I'll keep working at it.
I have a membership to a gym with Medicare's SilverSneakers. Maybe I'll go after the holidays.

I rode the bike a couple times this week but have been focusing on stepping.

Am having a good workout this morning by rotating the mattress, cleaning the tops of fans, shower walls, everything but the baseboards. Knees still don't like touching the floor.
According to my mother and sister it's bad luck to open the new year with a dirty house, but that may have been their way of getting me to help. Still, I'm doing extra cleaning in case they were on to something and it's being counted as my workout.

So…. I’ve been watching cheerleader exercise videos (I am a former high school cheerleader and drill team member) by the Michigan Lions (NFL team) and of course I attend our high school team events because our team is The Lions, too. Anyhooo, I do leg stretches and warm up exercise to do something good for my body and keep up the positive momentum that both teams I cheer for extends into the better part of my everyday life.
Just sharing in the joy is all I need to smile and feel better as each day goes by. I might not can do all the things I used to but one day I will.

Have been using the stair stepper but my glutes are still a little tender. I have membership to a gym with medicare. I think I'll go when the snow clears up. I know, I've said that before now, but I am going.

Had a good ride on the bike yesterday. It was good because it went by quickly. I just cannot do mindful exercising. Just the thought of it turns me off. So, I have videos on (usually bike-riding views, bikers, exercisers, line dancing, etc). I have audio (music, podcast, audiobooks), blinds open so I can see the snow, rain or sunshine. Before I know it, I’ve met my goal and upped my heart rate. It works for me.
Snow has melted so I can do some walking. I might go for a short walk today if I see Huck or Bella outside.

My first visit to the gym I just enrolled at is located in a small town, off a huge river (which is at flood stage right now because of unusual weather conditions) and is home to a bird sanctuary. Lots of local neighbors go to this gym, so I made new lady friends yesterday plus I was greeted by many who know me.
I’m not quite eligible for the free membership offered via Medicare, so I am paying month-to-month until Medicare kicks in for me. $44 bucks a month, I had to pay first and last month membership dues so I paid $88 bucks for 2 months of access. I chose the middle membership because all I need is an exercise bike, a walking machine, access to the pool and Jacuzzi for now. Of course, if I want to lift weights or use those types of things then I can but I won’t because I’m not rich enough to afford a personal trainer. So I’m not going to do stuff that might make my mobility worse but just stick with simple exercises and push it to the limit. :tease: :eyebat:
So here is my routine: ride first for half an hour, walk on treadmill for 30 minutes, then go to pool where I swim laps for 3o minutes, then lazily do water aerobics for about ten or fifteen minutes, then drop into the jacuzzi to relax for about ten or fifteen minutes. Then off to the ladies locker rooms to shower and change into my street clothes. I exercise at the gym on Sat, Sun, and Monday after day shift at work, skip Tues & Wed cuz I work the late shift on those days, then in my days off I go in the afternoon between 2-4 pm.
All the machines and weights are on the second floor which looks out on the river,,,,, so you can watch wildlife, birds, and kayakers or boating.
Happy hello’s to all and keep on Keeping On! :)

I filled out the paper application today at home and checked the Lesbian box under Sexual Orientation. Who knew the day would come when that would be an option?

Then I did some line dancing to youtube videos and finished off with a few arm rolls. It wasn't a cardio workout, but more like a movement workout (whatevah).
I think I like mixing it up a bit. Next time I'll do the arm rolls earlier instead of saving it for last.

So, a few weeks back I caught some bug which I probably got from somebody at the gym. I hate when people expose others to their illnesses by not staying home.
Anyhoooo: here is what I do when I go to the gym.
1) half hour on the recumbent bike at level 2. My heart rate scores are between 75 to 113, depending on how fast I pedal or position my body on the bike.
2) half hour of doing laps in the pool. Backstroke, only.
3) a good long sit in the jacuzzi (20 minutes or so)
4) sit in the steamy sauna for about 5 minutes, before I call it a day.
And, I definitely like my gym!! Get to see all the wildlife out on the river front and the blossoming cherry and plum trees. So pretty here, right now.

I had another good ride this morning. Beyoncé came on just as I was wrapping up so I stayed with it for another half mile.
I'm finally at a place where I know I'll pick up cycling again if I stop for few days or even a week or two. I guess I learned that last year with my surgeries but it's sinking in now. I didn't have an exercise routine for most of my life and since I've started exercising, I'd sometimes get anxious if I missed a day or two. Not anymore. This peace of mind added to the good ride I had this morning. No guilt for not exercising this weekend, no pressure to try and maybe make up for lost time. Just an easy ride while the sun came up.

When I first started going, back in February, I could only cycle for about ten minutes on a recumbent bicycle. I’m up to 40 minutes now, cycling about 10 mph, with a heartbeat rate topping out at 130 beats for small snippets of time (cardio stuff).
I’m careful not to overdo on the cycling machine.
My favorite activity after I cycle is to swim laps for about half an hour, then it’s jacuzzi time.

Had a good workout this morning and on some other days this week.
Today I unpacked then repacked some books I still have in the garage. Loaded 2 boxes of books and my pink dolly into the car and took them to my local library. The library is having a book sale next week so it's good I got them in now. Will take some more boxes to them over the next week. The boxes were heavy but I'm getting my strength back. I thought about selling the books last year in the garage sale, but I just couldn't do it. It's easier for me to give them to the library and to let them sell the books.
Went shopping with some frineds who were looking for furniture. We walked and walked and walked, then stopped for margaritas and fish sorta-tacos (they're "sorta" like tacos, but not really—don't get me started on the sorta-like Mexican food in these parts).
I also moved furniture in the femme cave this week because I had my floors and area rugs steamed. I've been moving around!
You'd think I'd lost weight, huh? Nope, I'm still in that 5 lb range BUT I'm still 5 lbs less than I was when I started my surgery last year. So, there is that. My doctor won't be impressed with nuggut of info, but I am.
The stiffness is now restricted to the immediate knee area. Not the upper calves nor lower thighs. Yesterday I made some gummies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXtpB7lZQ5Y). I stood at the stove and stirred jello into the the canna-oil for 30* minutes before getting tired. Before I would have a high chair in the kitchen. Not now. What a difference...
I haven't cycled, but will very soon.

5 Exercises for a Better Sex Life
Any physical activity can improve your sexual health. But a few exercises are especially beneficial.

By Danielle Friedman, April 27, 2024
As far as your muscles are concerned, sex is just another workout. And like most workouts, the more conditioned you are, the more enjoyable it can be.
Yes, you can train for sex.
“It’s important to remember that sex is movement, and it’s exercise,” said Debby Herbenick, director of the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at the Indiana University School of Public Health. If you want to have satisfying sex, she said, you’ll likely benefit from moving your body outside of the bedroom.
If you’re happy with your sex life, a regular fitness habit can help to ensure your body continues to function properly. If you feel like your sex life could be more satisfying, exercise may help with erectile dysfunction (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5960035/), pain with penetration (https://nafc.org/bhealth-blog/pain-during-sex-you-may-need-to-relax-the-pelvic-floor/) and low sex drive (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29606554/), among other issues.
Regular physical activity can also help you become more self aware. “You learn to listen to your body,” Dr. Herbenick said, “and then you can carry that wisdom over to your sexual life.”
While pretty much any workout routine can improve sex over time, a few specific types of movement can be especially helpful for sexual function and enjoyment, depending on your needs and physical ability. Here are five exercises that experts in sexual health and fitness recommend.
Work in bursts of high intensity cardio.
Your cardiovascular health directly impacts your sexual health, and not just because sex can sometimes be vigorous and aerobic, Dr. Herbenick said.
The cardiovascular system powers two bodily systems that are important for sex: erections and vaginal lubrication. Without proper blood flow, one will likely have trouble achieving or maintaining either, she said. Research also suggests (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/241739160_Exercise-induced_orgasm_and_pleasure_among_women) that, for some people, aerobic exercise itself can stimulate arousal.
If you don’t already do aerobic exercise, begin by establishing a solid cardio baseline through regular, moderate-intensity activity, said Darlene Marshall, a personal trainer in upstate New York who has helped clients train for better sex.
Then, once you can comfortably walk or jog at a “conversational” pace for about 20 minutes, add intervals of high-intensity effort, she said — to train for the bursts of exertion sex can require. Depending on your fitness level, running or cycling sprints, brisk stair climbs or high intensity interval training are all good options.
Do Kegels — correctly.
The health of your pelvic floor, the hammock of muscles that sits at the base of the pelvis, can make the difference between a gratifying sexual experience and a lackluster or even painful one — for women and men — said Janelle Howell, a pelvic floor specialist in Chicago. Between 10 and 20 percent (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33983001/) of women in the United States report pain during sex.
When your pelvic floor muscles are weak or tight, you may not experience as powerful an orgasm. Tight pelvic floor muscles can also make penetrative sex painful. Healthy pelvic floor muscles need both strength and flexibility to be able to contract and fully release on command.
Kegel exercises, which mimic the effort of holding and releasing urine or gas, can be an effective way to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, Dr. Howell said. The key is to make sure that after every contraction, you fully relax the muscles — something many people don’t do properly.
For women, Dr. Howell suggests imagining an elevator slowly going up, then slowly going all the way back down to the ground floor, to ensure the muscles fully release. For men, tighten your pelvic floor muscles, hold for three seconds, then fully relax for three seconds.
If you have a tight pelvic floor, experts advise skipping the Kegels and focusing instead on diaphragmatic breathing, which can help to relax and lengthen the muscles. (A pelvic floor physical therapist can offer a full assessment.)
Limber up your hips.
Most people spend hours a day sitting, which can lead to tight hip muscles, fascia and ligaments. When your hips are tight, you may experience back and pelvic pain during sex.
“I hear a lot that people can only do one position,” because they’re stiff or other positions hurt, Dr. Howell said.
Improving your hip mobility can help your whole lower body move more fluidly and comfortably, and may improve pelvic pain during sex, she said.
As a first step, Ms. Marshall recommends releasing (https://humankinetics.me/2018/09/18/self-myofascial-release/) some of the constricted areas by placing a tennis ball against your glutes and rolling it around, then shifting it to your hips and hamstrings, massaging each area until you feel the muscle release. This can be done sitting or against a wall.
From there, stretch your hips, hip flexors, glutes, back muscles and hamstrings by doing a figure-four stretch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcfcKXTaEkA), 90/90 stretch (https://health.clevelandclinic.org/90-90-stretch), cat cow (https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/stress-management/multimedia/cat-cow-pose/vid-20453581) or happy baby pose (https://www.healthline.com/health/happy-baby-pose), Dr. Howell said, or “any movement that’s bringing your chest closer towards your knees.”
Finally, dynamic exercises such as deep squats and glute bridges mobilize the hips and build strength. And if you want to dial up the intensity, weighted squats (https://www.verywellfit.com/squats-for-the-buns-hips-and-thighs-1231102), leg presses (https://www.verywellfit.com/how-to-do-the-leg-press-3498610) and kettlebell swings (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYHbu2LRqD0) can increase the power in your glutes and hamstrings.
“I love kettlebell swings for sexual training,” Ms. Marshall said, because they involve “a rhythmic movement of flexion and extension in the hips.”
Focus on your entire core.
The more strength you have in your core, the more you will be able to move easily during sex. Most of the nerves and muscles that are involved in sex are integrated into the core, and strong core muscles can also help to reduce back and hip pain before, during and after sex.
“Strengthening the core can really help with endurance during sex, helping you feel strong and solid in your body,” said Rachel Zar, a sex therapist in Chicago.
To work the full cylinder of muscles that make up the core, Dr. Howell recommends doing planks daily. “You can start small,” she said. “Say you can only hold it for five to 10 seconds — that’s going to help you to engage all of your core muscles at one time.”
Another bonus to working the core muscles? Dr. Herbenick and her team have found that, for some people, contracting and releasing their core muscles (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/241739160_Exercise-induced_orgasm_and_pleasure_among_women) helped them become aroused. Consider your planks foreplay.
Practice five minutes of daily yoga.
Yoga can help improve hip mobility and build core strength. And practicing slow, deep, diaphragmatic breathing is especially valuable for sex, Dr. Herbenick said, because it helps to relax both the body’s parasympathetic nervous system and the pelvic floor.
“You might find that vaginal penetration is more comfortable. You might find that erections come more easily,” she said. “Stress is the enemy of erections.”
If you don’t feel up to moving through yoga positions, practicing the breath work alone is valuable, Dr. Howell noted. “Even just laying on the yoga mat, putting your hands on your belly and just breathing into your belly can really start to calm that nervous system,” she said, “which can then support more pleasure in your sex life.”

The knees are stiff, but the stiffness is only in the knees so it doesn't prevent me from moving. I'm movng more than before my new knees, but not as much as want.
It was a good walk and Bella was a delightful companion, as always.

My new Physical Therapist came to the house for the first time today. I like her a lot! She seems very smart, is super nice (and uber cute - bonus!). I've been having trouble with my walker, and she was immediately able to identify the problems: I've been standing wrong, and it was adjusted too short. My back already hurts less since she readjusted it.
This was mostly a getting-acquainted type visit, but we did do some exercises. She showed me a personalized website where she entered the exercises (with descriptions) so I can do them over the course of the next week until I see her again.
I am so glad my insurance is going to spring for home PT. Going to the office was killing me; I was so worn out by the time I got there I couldn't do much of anything.

Since July started on a Monday, I figured that was as good a time as any to get back into the gym so I've been every day....all 4 of them...since then.
July 1st, I did some cardio to warm up, then a basic, one set with 10 reps go 'round in the circuit training area, followed by more cardio for the cool down.
July 2nd, I was sore from waking up long dormant muscles so I stuck to cardio.
July 3rd, I was in a time crunch and was still a wee bit stiff, so more cardio.
July 4th--happy potential last celebratory day of actual freedom--I didn't get there as early as I wanted and they closed early for the holiday so I did a brief cardio warm up followed by another quick run at the circuit training area, minus one apparatus that was out of order and ending with a a short cool down on the elliptical.
So far, so good!

I've gone every day, even the ones I didn't want to. I was speaking with a friend and I mentioned that I accidentally found some shows on HGTV to watch while doing my cardio so my time at the gym has significantly increased because it's easy to get involved in them and the next thing I know, the machine is cutting me off because I met the time limit. Can you tell what day that was?
July 5th stats: 132 calories, 1.60 miles, 30 minutes, level 4.
July 6th stats: 144 calories, 1.79 miles, 30 minutes, level 4.
July 7th stats: 71 calories, .80 miles, 15 minutes, level 4.
Circuit training.
67 calories, .81 miles, 15 minutes, level 4.
July 8th stats: 300 calories, 3.50 miles, 65 minutes, level 4.

98 calories, 1.11 miles, 22 minutes, level 5.
July 9th stats: 300 calories, 3.50 miles, 65 minutes, level 4.
138 calories, 1.67 miles, 30 minutes, level 4.
July 10th stats: 168 calories, 2.06 miles, 35 minutes, level 4.

My "learn to row" program started this week and holy cow what a fantastic workout. Before we even get on the water it's 8 of us carrying a 200 lb boat up and off of racks, overhead, on shoulders, carry to the docks, putting it in the water. It's a tightly choreographed system from start to finish. I love it. And the rowing is amazing. I was in a funk after a stressful day at work yesterday but an hour later I was on a team rowing down the river with geese flying overhead and I was like... what was I upset about before? Not a clue. Then after rowing it's the same in reverse, lift the boat up our of water, pull overhead, down to shoulders, walk it up to the boathouse. My shoulders are pretty bruised up from it but I'm taking those bruises as swagger :)

Got my gym membership switched over to my benefit gym membership (silver & fit), yesterday. It’s been a few moments (since early June), that I could access the gym. Tonight I’m going after work to start my workouts again: bar bells (arm rolls), rowing machine, recumbent bicycle; then join a few friends downstairs for a hip hop dance class. Can’t wait to go!! 😊

Today I did my walking around the top floor of my house, bedroom-hallway-bedroom-hallway. Tedious, but I did it singing along with Whitney Houston.

Yesterday- rowing on the river on a very windy evening was an eventful and fun workout. We worked against current, heavy winds, and some wakes from large boats going by. We stayed upright and survived the experience and I loved every minute of it.

The strength in my knees and hips is building back up. I can walk 4 steps without holding onto the walker. It's been awhile since I could walk without holding onto the walker or a wall or a rail.

I wanted to hike Hurricane Mountain this morning but thought I would wait for my mountain climbing buddy to come home from travelling for that one. So I went to Hang glider cliffs which is a 6 mile loop with some nice scenery and gorgeous views at the top. I'm glad I went early as it was very hot and buggy when I finished.

I was supposed to climb Black Mountain today with my climbing buddy for her birthday but she woke up awful sick so we are rescheduling. She was so bummed. So I climbed "fifth peak" in the Lake George Wilderness. Not the most exciting name but it was a heck of a climb. Very steep. Lovely views at the top. It is noted that it is also a home to a number of Rattle Snakes and thankfully I didn't come across any. The only time I really worried was one section where the trail was very narrow and running through a tall grassy area. Let's just say I hustled through that section. I think my legs will have something to say to me about all this tomorrow.

I just got back from taking my first Barre class. This is a kind of hybrid of ballet positions, weight training, lots (and lots) of crunch-like motions, and a lot (lots) of leg lifts with giant rubber bands. Halfway through, I thought, "this is a nope". Now, I feel great.
The instructor (who must have been 60 if a day) came flying over after the class to tell me how great I did! She was very nice and had no problems with me taking a break, or modifying whatever we were doing. It reminded me a bit of the jazz and modern dance I did in high school, and being on the dance team. I felt like one powerful sister back then, and so much more in touch with my body. I'm gonna go for that again.
Of course, I flew right to Orema's post about exercise and sex up at the top. Well, if that ain't motivation, what is?

Happy Monday to everybody (f)
Just thought I’d drop by and spill about my own exercise stuff. ☺️
I met a nice lady, older than me, at my gym and as we sat in the jacuzzi, she told me about her year long results of having joined our gym and how she improved her health and mobility. She went nightly to the pool aerobic class, which is only an hour long, but a bonafide workout. She lost over a hundred pounds, has no hanging skin on her body, and still goes nightly.
Her story and year long commitment inspires me to keep up the good fight for my own health.
I’ve only lost maybe ten pounds since August, but between going to the gym and committing to a no-sugar-whatsoever diet, I’m determined to win my battle for better mobility and a better looking body.
Cheers,
K. (f)

I'm exercising again and it feels good on most days. Today felt really good on the bike. I could have ridden longer, but I didn't want to push it.
I'm losing weight but I need to increase my muscle mass so I bought some dumbbells (https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71laddLyIGL._AC_SX679_.jpg) and have been using them. I expect to gain, but that's cool as long as I can build up some muscle.
I've started using these videos. The dumbbell workout wasn't as satisfying as spinning, but I'm still adjusting to using weights.

Maybe I'll enjoy the weights more if I turn down the volume and use my own beats (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ633YXW-TM).

Had a lovely walk this morning. It was my first one for the year. Didn't need a cane on that last block and wasn't out of breath. Guess I need to add another block or two. We'll see.
Saw sweet Bella but I'm no longer on speaking terms with her Trump-loving family. I miss her but my motto for this year is these things happen and that makes it easier to accept the losses and move on to creating winners, at least for me. I give her a couple rubs if she comes up to me then I keep it moving.
I also made some gummies this morning and my fitness watch counts my vigorous stirring as "activity." So, I've met my exercise goals for today.

I love working the Yes To Next videos, which are a mother-daughter team, each over 50 (mother is 80-something; daughter is 50-something). They range from 10 minutes to 30 and more. I may do a shorter one if I'm aching and still feel like I did something. They also emphasize balance and functional fitness.
I also like the Body groove videos, but those are more strenuous and you actually need coordination to do them. I'm also a little uncomfortable shaking things, even in the privacy of my home, but that's me and nothing really against the videos.

These sound really interesting and I will give them a try if I can find them. I really need something to help with coordination and function. Right now I am doing some exercises that my pain doctor recommended; they are based on Tae Kwon Do. But I can't do the upper body and lower body at the same time. I have to be sitting to do the upper body, and standing holding onto my walker to do the lower body. Even if I try to just do the lower body and balance with my arms instead of holding onto the walker, I lose my balance and fall over. I need something that;s going to give me all-over coordination.

Exercising was very good today. I was only able to workout for 22 minutes, but it helped a lot.
I've been slacking on the strength training. I don't like it because I gain weight so I'd rather walk or cycle, but that's not enough while I'm losing weight becuase I'm losing too much muscle.
My wrist, leg and hip started acting up. I thought it was my arthritic spine and was going to make an appt with the doctor. Well, I got pissed off about something and needed a strenuous workout so I pulled out the dumbells. By the time I finished I had worked out a few of the kinks in my wrist and hip.
I can't/won't do both walking and strength training, so I'll stick with the strength training for now because it's making a difference.
I'm thinking of signing up with a guy who has some strength-training videos for seniors, but I'll try it on my own for now.

This is weird, but I’m taking a good long break from water fitness. My body was feeling sore and tired, and I’m feelng better in general, which I thought might happen, but it’s still unexpected.

Had a good workout this morning. Have focused on strength training this week with videos from April and her mother. Those kinks I worked out have not returned. I've gained a couple pounds but it is what it is. It's muscle weight that I need.
I'll stick with this for a while, but I'm still thinking about signing up with an online trainer.
