Rainy day today. Went to the gym and did an hour on the Arc Trainer (Level 10, Strength program); then 45 minutes on the stair master (45/50 intervals); and then a combined 45 minutes of weight lifting and stretching.

Jill was beside me throughout. I made some efforts towards eye contact and eeked a little smile out of her. She was wearing her tiny tight black booty shorts and her Underarmour white top pulled up so one can see the very bottom of her breasts. I was wearing my Smurf-blue jean cut-offs and my wrinkled over-sized "Honey Badger Don't Care" yellow t-shirt that my mom got me. She was watching sports, and I was watching Caught in the Act (an engaging Court t.v. show where shop lifters are caught in the act).

I also hung out with my friend LaKeesha in the locker room. She arrives every single day at the gym at 4:55am on week days before work. She said, "I have to take care of me before I can take care of anyone else." I do that by sleeping!

Nyc,

I wrote a fantastic response to your post (what other kind of post would I write?), but then I lost it.

I think the bottom line is she thinks you are a creeper (actually, I have several theories, but don't feel like writing them all out again).

I love the way you tell a story...keep us up to date!

Jill has a few very select friends. A female trainer in particular and a tiny smattering of other cool people.

Dapper, I'm so sad your response disappeared :missing:

If Jill would warm up to you, then she'd have one "extra cool" friend.

That's right!

Jill and I are both weird but in different ways. I think that's part of why I'm interested in her. Her story, her "deal," remains a mystery. We're always within a foot of each other but I can't know her beyond what I see.

I went for my 15 minute walk, which seems paltry compared to you all LOL. BUT for someone who is allergic to exercise it is good for me.

It was raining outside, but not very hard, and it was kinda nice. The rivers and waterfalls near me are thawing and I really enjoyed looking at them and I find the sound of moving water to be very comforting. I really think it would be helpful to my walk if winter would be officially OVER.

I love the sound of water too. I wish I had a waterfall near me. Also I am more than ready for warm weather so that I can go back to mixing the gym up with walking outside.

Today I did an hour on the stair master (intervals 45/50), an hour and a half on the Arc Trainer (Level 10, Strength Program, and a combined hour of weightlifting, abs, and stretching.

I only saw Jill out of the corner of my eye, glistening with sweat, going as fast as only Jill can go on an Arc Trainer.

I talked a bit in the locker room with my "friend" Marilyn. We have nothing in common, and she's a little too talkative for my taste but sweet none-the-less. She suggested we go out to lunch when it gets warmer. No thanks. She has a nice smile and warm google eyes.

I have been a slug. I am not sure what is going to motivate me to "get back into the game." Obviously, not this belly I have accrued. Spring/summer, I hope.

My winter pelt is slowing sloughing off. I gained a total of 12 pounds from September to March. I'm down 2 and have 10 to go.

Some days I feel more connected to myself and yesterday was one of those day. When I was running, something clicked, and I could feel the strike of each foot and the muscle reactions flow up my leg. I made micro-corrections in my gait and felt the change immediately. Even though I got up to 7.0, it didn't burn as much as usual. Even my breathing felt different.

I love days like that but it's not something I've been able to practice. It clicks on, it clicks off. I have no idea where or what the switch is.

I know how frustrating it can be to know what needs to be done and just not have the physical or mental motivation to actually get it going. I'm still trying to crawl out of that myself. I keep remembering that objects in motion tend to stay in motion. For some reason, physics laws help. lol

Good luck to you!

Google eyes, Jennifer?

Getting back to a little bit of cycling; even though it's nothing more than riding to and from the town which is really just a hop and a skip away.

I'm afeared to do too much exercise in light of further lung damage but also I'm struggling to keep my weight up and exercise really doesn't help in that.

Yes, whenever I do something new it's a a real roll of the dice how my body will respond by the next day! It will either tell me:
-whatever
or
-you have awoken parts of me that were in a long sleep
or
-you have injured yourself and this is my way of warning you never to do that again!

Word.

I know how out of shape I am, especially my core muscles. That's why I only did about 10, maybe 12 minutes worth and that was not totally abs. I did the glute machine as well because that's tucked in the corner next to the ab stuff. I only worked on two ab machines and did 3 sets of 10 during 3 exercises.

That's only......oh.

Gemme,

I have been consistent with some long, fast, walks with Mr. Potato on the weekends. I've started to be a bit more consistent walking him in the neighborhood during the week, as well (side note: anytime I say I walk the dog that means I am walking fast enough to have the heart rate up), for about 30 minutes each time.

The above isn't SO unusual, though, so I can't expect any weight/body changes from the above.

My hope is that the consistency, however, will move me towards getting on that elliptical that takes up 1/4 of my living room! :|

today....

I opted to sleep in (if 6am is "sleeping in") and skipped my morning yoga so I could get more sleep....its a necessity after all...

I redeemed myself with a 2 hour hike...with a lot of uphill....through some snow and ice. I had to scramble up a rock face at one point...after all that...the only thing that remotely aches is my ribs from all the attempts to keep my balance on the slippery slopes!

just as a little aside.... Im signed up for a 5k end of May and may commit to one for end of April....both for good causes. Im going to step up my hiking/walking accordingly :)

Been going home and walking Kevin during my lunch break for the last couple of months or so. Now it is hot at noon. Kevin sure lapped up his water when we returned home. I put a bunch of ice cubes in his water bowl before we embark on our walk.

We are having a little trouble with this one long hill which takes us to a wooded area. Today I was thinking how Kelly always pulled Kevin and I up that hill. It did not matter if it was cold or hot outside, she never slowed down or hesitated in getting Kevin and I to the top. I always put them on a coupler lease. Made it somewhat easier for me. Kelly was a light - weight at about 60 to 65 pounds. It always baffled me how exceptionally strong she was for her size. Kelly was extra extra special ... and such a clown. Even when she mis- behaved, I could not get mad at her. I'd have to fake mad and then fake the talk. LOL!

Yesterday at the gym:

1 hr. on the Stair Master (Intervals 45/50); 1 hr. on the Arc Trainer (Level 10, strength program); and 1 combined hour of weight lifting, core, and stretching.

Had a small run-in with Jill, slightly out of our usual context. Me walking out of bathroom, her walking in. I looked her in the eye and smiled and said hi. She did the same. We had a more genuine eye contact.

Talked a few minutes in the locker room with LaKeesha. Listened to her tell another woman her usual thing, "I get to the gym by 5am because I cannot do for any other man or woman before I do for myself." My favorite line of hers is the "The gym is my morning coffee." It's a little more catchy.

60 squats

20 bicep curls
30 crunches
20 bicycle twists
20 step out jacks : : substitute a heel tap to the side instead of jumping out

I had lots of manual labor this week, so I don't think it's a total loss.

Oh! And I found out how to say 'prostitute' in RI sign. And then worked my abs by laughing non-stop for 10 minutes with my new deaf customer and his girlfriend. They are going to help me a little with signing!

Today is the first day of my Spring Break (well, I wouldn't have had to go to school on a Saturday but you know what I mean!). I am off for a week! And it's finally spring in NYC!

Today I spent two hours in Riverside Park. I walked and did some stair climbing on the St. Clair Stairs. It's nice to be out of the gym, feeling the sun, experiencing the various terrains, and people watching. Everyone was happy it was spring today.

I had a funny experience in the park. I walked by this woman on a bench, and as I passed by she frowned and gave a universal sign: a big, clear "thumbs down." I thought, "Oh, my, I must have offended." I tried to assess myself and see if I forgot to put on pants or something. Then I thought, maybe it's my "Pride" shirt, but it's a very subtle rainbow pride shirt, so that seemed doubtful. I reversed course so that I could walk by her again and see if I got the "thumbs down" sign again, maybe this time with a comment that would clarify things. As I did she was now sitting with a man (perhaps a husband?), and I realized that likely she had been communicating with him from across the way, and that I had not seen him and thought the thumbs down sign was for me. When I passed them, they did not even seem to see me, which would make sense, since I was a stranger.

Then I went to the gym. It was wonderfully quiet and empty, save for a few regulars. There is an older Asian woman who I've mentioned before. She is petite and muscular, and we have a very similar routine that makes it so we are sometimes in each others space, using the weights the other one wants, etc. We handle it with quiet dignity. Anyway we were lifting weights next to each other and doing yoga (blah blah), and then she sat with her head in her hands for a long while. I wondered if she was upset about something and thinking it out. Then she said to me, "Hold my hand." She has tiny hands and wears weight lifting gloves, so my bare hand held her gloved hand. A few moments passed and she said, "Help me up slowly. I have vertigo, and I just had a very bad episode." It was a tender moment, and I doubt we will ever speak of it, but I'm glad she knew that we had a trusted relationship from being together so much, even if in silence.

Like nycfem, I had an unusual experience today. I was up at the crack of dawn doing my usual run through a nearby woodland. No one is ever in the woods at this time in the morning on a Saturday except a gentleman walking his dog. We always wave to each other as I run by. Today he motioned for me to stop. He told me he was going on holidays in a couple of days and he asked that I vary my running schedule or find somewhere safer to run while he was gone. I asked him, "What do you mean?" He told me my routine was too predictable and he would feel much better knowing I wasn't in the woods by myself while he was away. I couldn't believe it! This stranger was genuinely concerned for my safety. All these months he had been keeping his eye out for me. I thanked him for his concern and told him I would run at the local track for the next week. It is strange how connections are made with our fellow humans, even when we are not aware of it.

This morning I pumped up the tires on my bike. They'd deflated over the winter. I wiped down the chain and oiled it, and stopped at the bike shop around the corner to get a new helmet.

For the last couple years, I've been wearing R's old skateboard helmet. It felt good to have a lighter, better ventilated helmet. Also, it's fluorescent orange.

I just went my usual route, down through my neighborhood, past the Brooklyn Museum and the main library, past the big arch and fountains to the entrance to the park.

It was the first time I'd seen the farmer's market happening since last summer. There were tons of people milling around the tents where people were selling vegetables, herbs, meat and dairy products from upstate New York.

It was easy doing the 3-mile loop around the park. I guess I've gotten into better shape than I realized. I doubled my exercise routine in January, and I use an old Schwinn exercycle at home that isn't recumbent, but more like a spin-class bike, meaning, I can adjust the resistance and stand on the pedals. I'm drenched when I get off it.

Anyway it felt good to be exercising outside for a change. The lighter helmet and being in better shape felt great. I went around the park once, then down a bike path that spans from the plaza to 15th Street, then down 15th Street to 5th Avenue, then back around to my part of Brooklyn.

Today I also cleaned off the balcony and set up my chairs. I can sit out there with my coffee now in the morning, and do stretches and stuff on the yoga mat. I'm up high, so there's enough privacy to do that.

Exercise is so much easier for me when the weather is better.

Hooo Boy! I am two weeks in my new apartment and I still feel like I just moved! I was seven years in the neighborhood I work in, loved walking to work, but on last Dec. 1st unbearable people moved in upstairs and I had to finally move. It was like a Frat House and I was regularly woken up between 12 and 2am. I was losing my mind! Back on Feb. 3rd, I gave up. I stopped cycling carbs, tracking my weight, and basically just stopped everything.

I'm looking forward to getting back into routines, but I can't find the AC adapter for my exercise bike! ugh. I moved to Marble Hill, where there is absolutely no parking after 6pm, and I am walking to everything. Sometimes 12,000 steps on the Fitbit!

It is great to sleep at night!

Yesterday I swam for 6 hours. First laps then played in the water with my little guy, then back to laps. It was exhausting and yet so wonderful. Also spent about 20 minutes on the treadmill yesterday as well. As for today only 45 minutes in the pool.

I need access to a pool regularly. This weekend I can thank Hampton Inn, but on a regular basis I have no pool around. I'm considering joining the aquatic center nearby. My gym doesn't have one and I have truly missed the water.

1.5 hours on the Stair Master (45/50 intervals); then 1 hour of weight lifting, core, and stretching

I was so in "the zone" today- I love the days when it feels like a meditation.

Oh, and while on the stair master I watched a Judge Judy about a guy who was suing because at the gym another guy accidentally lost his balance and dropped a 200 pound weight on the other guy! Judy awarded only his out of pocket medical damages, even though the guy went through hell and has permanent damage! i wanted him to get "pain and suffering." It's a reminder that we cannot expect others to be cautious at the gym, kind of like still needing to look before crossing the street, even if it says "Walk." There's one woman who uses weights around me in a somewhat reckless fashion. The first time she did I chalked it up to me being sensitive. Then I realized how stupid that was of me, and that I needed to steer clear of her!

That's so cool. I'd love to have a recumbent bike at home but we do not have room. BB's recumbent bike doesn't suit me (I have a type of bike that I specifically like), and there is barely room for one bike let alone two! Looking forward to hearing more as you get back into your groove. Congrats on making all these changes and getting to this point!

Just got back from a ride around Prospect Park,

then down that long straight bike path along Prospect Park West from Grand Army Plaza to 15th Street,

then up and down the side streets between 8th Avenue and Prospect Park West till I worked my way back to Grand Army Plaza,

then zig-zagging down the avenues and streets back to my apartment building.

Bike riding sober is a new experience for me. It's still beautiful. I don't have as many flashbacks or streaks of emotion moving through me. The air seems both louder and more quiet.

It was my last day of spring break today.

I went to the gym and did 75 minutes on the Stair Master (45/50 intervals), and then a combined 75 minutes of weight lifting, core and back strengthening exercises, and stretching.

Jill was talking to someone today. He was not as cool as she usually hangs with. He was an older guy, very normal looking. They were talking about school. Jill was saying something about taking classes, indicating that she was in school. Once I saw that Jill was conversating, I moved my whole set of weights and paraphernalia over to the edge of the mat where I could hear her better while working out.

This other woman Sarah, who I always work out next to, got annoyed with this shift because then she had to shift. While shifting Sarah, I said to her, "Hi, I'm Jennifer... since I see you all the time." She paused, like she didn't want to tell me her name and then said simply, "Sarah." She's the one who got mad at me when I brought a black backpack onto the gym floor at the time of the Boston bombings. If any of you recall, she confronted me about it, and I then switched to a little pink bag (I almost wrote, "a little pink bomb," a Freudian slip!). Anyway, Sarah is a type that looks angry all the time. She looks weary of the world. Recently I had a revenge of sorts when she was caught breaking a rule, and she saw me see her get caught breaking a rule. It was more satisfying for me then words can describe because she was so hard on me about that black backpack. She was using her cell phone in the weights area (not allowed!), and a trainer actually called her on it. She tried to talk back to him about it, but he held fast. Wow, what a moment that was for me.

Anyway, back to Jill. Jill speaks very softly, so when she's conversating I can never hear more than a few words. It almost makes it worse than having her not be conversating because it's so unsatisfying! If only I had a Whisper2000...

I did an hour on the Stair Master watching Bad TV. That makes time go very slow. I did the Interval program (45/50).

Then I did a combined hour of weight lifting, leg exercises, and yoga in peaceful silence.

I went to the school I work at beforehand to volunteer and play basketball with the teenagers. I've been lazy about reporting my workouts. Basically, I've been puttering around my house and doing a lot of walking at work and doing some light weights while watching my shows on television.

Today I hit the gym again. Treadmill T33 and I are developing a lasting relationship, I can tell.

65 minutes, 3.67 miles, 386 calories.

5.6-7.0 mph running intervals
Level 3, random program

Someone set off the lunk alarm but it was a half-hearted one. More of a weeeeoooo-- instead of a weeeeeeooooooooohhhhhhhh.

So, for those that listen to music while you sweat, what do you like to listen to to rev your energy up?

I know we've broached this before but it's been a while and we have some new exercisers.

The PT is mostly torturous isometric poses with truly impressive rubber bands until you yell "uncle"... or 30 seconds... whichever comes first.

The other fun part is balancing on a foam roll the long way and doing ridiculously simple yet somehow impossible things while counting 50 reps, about ten different ways.

Not exactly the workout stuff of legends but it certainly kicks my ass.

Since I am easily confused and have the attention span of a gnat I can't listen to anything with lyrics while I'm counting so I listen to a Pandora station I made up that is classic jazz from the 50's and 60's.

When I am on my walk I usually just listen to the sounds around me but when I do listen to something it is along the lines of streaming NPR or podcasts like "Freakanomics" and "How stuff works".

I would recommend starting with yoga as a way to strengthen your core and work on your flexibility first. Then maybe move on to Pilates. I don't personally practice Pilates, but it seems more intensive (regarding intervals, etc.) I have been doing yoga for a few years now. I sought it out after regular back issues (my job is a back killer!) But now I love it for the overall benefits it provides...made me a better snowboarder, climber, and runner. I am, however, still working on finding my "Zen" place but I love the fact that yoga forces you to focus on breathing and pace.

I really haven't done much of either but if I had to choose one of the two, I'd choose Pilates. I'm not very good at being 'quiet' when I'm supposed to be getting my health bennies groove on and it seems like a more rounded program. My two pennies!

One super easy thing you can do at home is to get an exercise ball. You can do that while talking with the gf and/or watching TV and it's good for both of your goals and can be used in combination with either program.

Treadmill Time!

I had a decent day at the sweat box this morning. I ate crap last night and too much of it, so it affected how I felt this morning. There were very few running stints given to me by the program I set. I told you that T33 and I were bonding. She totally recognized my 'this isn't gonna happen' stride and adapted.

Instead, I bumped the program level up a few notches throughout the hour so that I could get something extra out of it without it being too much for me.

65 minutes, 3.55 miles, 371 calories.

The few running intervals I had were between 6.0-7.0 mph (4 total, including the minute I used of the cool down for one) and I started at level 3 and wound up at level 7.

I didn't sweat as much today. Less sudden force effort, so that makes sense, but I didn't realize that when I don't sweat as much I always have to pee.

Before I'm done.

So the last 10 minutes were a battle between my organs and bits, because I was not stopping early for a potty break. Not gonna happen. Due to my medical history, these kind of battles can be tricky. When my kidneys and bladder say jump, I'm usually in the air asking how high, but today I got everything done that needed to be done in a timely manner and without shorting myself or springing a leak.

I consider that a success!

I think I will be moving my body more. I picked up one of those Nike FUEL bracelets today. Not the newest generation, an older one that they still sell at the Nike Outlet near us.

Today was my first day and the dog found himself with an additional walk so that I would meet my goal for the day.

The bummer is that I only have an iPhone3 and I need a 4 or above to track it on my phone. I can check my progress on the computer, though.

I doubt I will be able to reach this goal during the work week, though. I work in an office, with no real walking going on there. I would have to walk the dog for about a hour each night to reach this goal. We'll see what happens tomorrow. I go in late on Mondays, and I have been trying to get dog walk in before work.

I am not sure how well this thing tracks on an eliptical. I know that on a stationary bike where there is no arm movement it looks as though you have done nothing. I mainly bought the bracelet for all the hiking/trail walking we do in the summers. I never now how far I walk and how much I burn in calories.

But, now that I have worn this bracelet all day and saw the little flashing "GOAL" sign this evening, I want it to happen every day! God, I'm like a kid <eyeroll>

It was a good day for me. I went to the gym and found the fans on a speed faster than slow, so that was exciting. I did my usual hour, playing with running intervals and incline. I did running intervals the first half and then turned up the incline for the second half.

65 minutes, 430 calories, 3.83 miles

I like the random program because it's, well, random. Some days I get more incline and some days I get lots of running intervals. I started at level 3 and worked my way up to level 10. My running intervals were from 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes each and ranged from 6.0 to 7.0 mph.

A fun bonus to my day was a sign I saw on my way out. My gym now has a vibrating massage booth thingy. I have a membership that allows me full use of it, so I tried it. Woo weee!

Think of a curved triangle shaped standing tanning booth with pinkish-white bulbs and a vibrating rubber floor and music of my choice booming through the system. Supposedly, it helps to massage the muscles as well as the light helping with winter blahs and even helping to keep the skin clear if used regularly. Of course, there are skin care products that can be hawked with it too but my gym's so lazy, they never mentioned them. I read about the products on the poster inside the room.

BUT

I will say this. After a long workout, all of that vibrating did feel good and it changed in intensity, which was cool. I did feel happier when I got out but the tunes were awesome and would have pumped me up anyway. The light is SUPER bright so I teared up a bit (light sensitivity) but I do like that you can go in it fully clothed and not have to worry about anything. You can bring your own MP3 in there if you don't want to take a chance on their music.

Next time, I'm trying the hydro massage table. I can lay down for that one. Sweet!

I did an hour on the Stair Master (Intervals 45/50). Jill was next-door on the elliptical going at the speed of lightning. We exchanged eye contact, a smile and a "hey" nod. That was impressive.

Then I did a combined hour of weight lifting, planks, abs, and yoga. I did a very small "plank fart." I felt a tiny "air bubble" during said plank and decided to just go for it (to silently discharge it during the plank, in order to multi-task). Now that takes true technique given that the ass and whole body are so tight during a plank. Sorry for the over-share, but it's not always easy to think of something that distinguishes one gym day from the next, and ya gotta go with what ya got...

Tough act to follow

Todays beach walk was against about a 40mph headwind. Yep, "resistance" exercise today. It had the beach almost empty and there was an old guy (my age?) out there hitting golf balls and looking pretty pleased about it. Did he really think it was his skill with that much tailwind?

I love Jill stories. And fart stories. Ok, so I like Jill stories better, but yeah, a story to distinguish the days is better than nothing.

Since Saturday, I have hit my "fuel goal" every day but yesterday. But, that was TF's fault. Kidding, but not really.

EDIT: I just looked back and read where I wrote that I doubted I could hit the Fuel goal during the week. I have been walking the dog for aobut 20 minutes in AM and 20 minutes in PM, at high pace. Wearing it during the day (pleased to see it can be hidden under my dress shirts), helps me hit the mark. I know I need to up the exercise, but I am glad that I am doing at least something at this point. Today I did 20 minutes this AM, 15 this evening, and then hit the eliptical for 15, so I am getting there.

Something else interesting. I wear this bracelet at all times and it starts over at zero at 12:00AM. It is interesting to see that I only take about 13 "steps" in my sleep when I am sleeping by myself, but when I invite the dog into bed (last night), I walked 165 "steps". Will be interesting to see how many "steps" I take while next to TF this weekend.

Today I did an hour on the Stair Master (45/50 intervals), followed by a combined hour of weight lifting, leg exercises, and yoga.

During the first hour I made a blunder with Jill's best friend, a butch-lesbian-looking, African-Amerian trainer at the gym. She stands at Jill's Stair Master and socializes with Jill from the floor.

The blunder I made is an intricate story involving shady shenanigans on my part as usual. An elderly white man was on my favorite Stair Master that is nearest the plug in the floor that I like to use when I watch DVDs on my old school DVD player (Today I was forcing myself through the "Snapped" tv series.). So I had to get out my extension cord and secretly weave it through the bottom of his Stair Master in order to use that one open plug. I try and make it inconspicuous because I'm not supposed to be taking over the gym this way. You could say I'm somewhat of a menace, and you'd be right.

If you'll recall last time I did this, I accidentally tripped Jill because the wire to the plug is like a trap the way I have it set up but it's the only place to do it. So I solved that original problem (after tripping a few other folks), by placing a small pink gym bag on top of the wire. It was an interesting experiment that I was able to watch from the Stair Master. Now no one trips because their eyes fall on the pink bag so they step around or over; whereas before the wire did not stand out enough by itself to draw the eye and prevent a stumble.

Sooo... today Jill's best friend came by and said to the elderly man, "Whose bag is this?" He said, "I don't know. It's been there a long time." So the trainer picked up the bag to take to the lost and found. All of a sudden, I realized what was happening and said, "I'm sorry, that's my bag!" Then I tried quickly to get off the machine to take away the offending bag, at which point, out of my rhythm, I knocked my elbow against the old school (very sturdy, never breaks) DVD player, and it went flying through the air crashing to the ground beneath the Stair Master. The trainer said, "Are you okay?" I said, "Yes, I just dropped something." She looked at me like I was crazy (I am), and I looked back at her and said, "It's just one of those moments..." She looked at me like I was acting even crazier (I was.). Things were very awkward, and I gathered all my trouble-making stuff and left for the weight lifting area posthaste.

Jill was not there at that time. I was lifting weights, and there was poor air circulation in the gym (stuffy and hot). It was pretty empty in the gym and warm outside with an impending thunderstorm. Through the windows I could see that it was growing slowly but progressively more ominous and dark outside. A sense of doom began to overtake me. Especially after that mess I made at the Stair Master, I started to feel like I was too weird and alone in the world. What does it say when even Jill is not at the gym? Then staring into the mirrored wall ahead of me, I saw a reflection of Jill walking in her strange, muscular bow-legged swagger towards her preferred elliptical, and I breathed a sigh of relief. All felt normal again.

I had to force myself to go to the gym today, though it was the perfect day for it. A holiday plus beautiful weather makes for a near empty gym. My favorite kind!

I decided to use a different program today. I used the personal trainer option, which allowed me to set my caloric goal for the workout but it was less helpful than I hoped. All it did was literally kick into cool down as soon as I hit my goal of 300 calories.

I did play with incline and some running intervals, as I tend to do. In the end, my stats are:

322 calories, 2.79 miles, 49:13 minutes.

Other than that handful of calories burned I took a nice risk walk this am. You are all inspirational to me. If only my back would cooperate maybe I would get more accomplished in my days.

We are having a hot snap of weather so my game plan is to hit the beach early tomorrow morning before it's too warm and also beating the tide.

Mission accomplished. :cheesy:

I was on the beach by 7 and it was beautiful, sunny and already 65°, I did my basic 3 miles and tacked on 1 more mile barefoot in the softest sand to exercise my feet.

Also got the car washed in my neighbors driveway and put it back right where it had been having driven a grand total of 1/2 block.

I have switched to doing the bulk of my PT at the beach where it actually gets done. I've been slacking and even though I've been told what I'm doing won't help, I still think it is a good idea on principal. For whatever reason I am just a lot better at getting my exercise done outdoors. Even if I do look rather foolish with some of it. I am thankful I have a good outdoor spot to use.

I was scheduled to go back to Pilates tomorrow and am very bummed I have to cancel. I am having quite a bit of discomfort in my neck and across my scapula after getting rear-ended yesterday.

I will give it another day or so, just to make sure everything is ok. I miss Pilates already. It was a crazy contradiction of very hard but very easy at the same time. I didn't feel any discomfort until the next day and that was strictly in my abdominals and inner thighs.

I want to jump back on the reformer as soon as I possibly can.

Oy!!

Had PT appt this afternoon. The good news was an hour in AC during unseasonably (un-geographically) warm weather.

The bad news was WOW! They gave me all new goodies to do in addition to the old. How many kinds of squats are there? Lots of the one legged variety apparently. So now I'm doing those with pole, furniture slides, foam roller, and rubber bands.

All the little compensating tricks I have been using for the last several years have to be undone now. I tilt when I'm not supposed to, and have to learn how to stick out this or that body part in what feels like totally unnatural ways. :seconddoh:

Other than that, 3 miles on the beach this morning with the old PT and some dips and push-ups on the pylons for good measure.

After work, I walked part way home (over 100 blocks) for 2.5 hours by the river. I had prepared for a colder temperature with what I was wearing (long sleeves, long pants) and ended up feeling clammy. It was foggy with no sun. The fog can be pretty on the water with all the sailboats, and the sea air and smell of being by the river is nice. An ocean and sand instead of concrete would be much nicer, but I'll take what I can get.

This sounds like a great vacation! Don't forget to look around for things to be creative with like a chunk of driftwood or some dune or structure you can turn into great bodyweight exercises. Getting into the soft stuff can make for a surprisingly good cardio workout. Just bring a towel so you don't get wandering sand. Just sayin' :cheesy:

Something I like about the beach I go to is that it is a "workingmans" beach, at least that is how I think of it. It isn't fancy and neither are the people, not at all what comes to mind when saying "California beach". It's on San Francisco Bay, not the coast, so it is rather like a really big lake that has tides. No fancy people or pristine sands. During the week it is just folks like me going to do exercise or stopping for lunch. Birds, seaweed, and coarser sand.

On the weekend it's common to see personal trainers bring out small groups for boot camp type classes and there a three volleyball nets in pretty much constant use with regulars, kind of reminiscent of bowling leagues. Lots of families bring their kids but there are all types of cultures and lifestyles also, quite a few gays too.

This time of year the schools come out quite a bit with athletics like track coming out for sand training and all the biology classes spend a few days out when the kids get antsy for the end of school.

I used to get a bit self-conscience when I started there but with other folks doing everything from yoga and morning prayers to a couple of guys that bring their kettle balls in wheelbarrows, I may not be the oddest one.

I’m officially dubbing the new workout “Pain in the Ass” because it really is.

All my glutes are pretty much on fire but I really enjoyed doing it on the beach. Of course the inevitable happened, one of my park ranger buddies snuck up behind me and started laughing her head off at what I was doing, in addition to the group of 5 elderly Chinese walkers (who I smile and wave with all the time) who literally stopped, gathered around me, and had some sort of conversation about it pointing and snickering. Hey, they do goofy looking tai chi things too!

I had paced off about 30ft and drawn lines in the sand to mark it and then while in a half squat position with my knees tied together with the rubber band from hell go back and forth side stepping in 8in steps. I looks even worse than it sounds. Combined with other tricks like “Cowboy” (bowlegged) walking and touch squats on a pier I put on quite the show.

Even though functionally crippled from this+ I did manage a couple of wobbly miles of regular walking and then a half mile of barefoot to finish out. Combined with some calithetics I’m now saying "Aww f*ck!" whenever I try to stand up and I still have a couple more things to do this evening that I can’t do at the beach just yet because I need a mirror.

Okay, I’m a wimp.

I say should because I am going into work to make up some hours.

Got to do it.

I do feel very fortunate that I have such a great boss that allows flexibility.

I just wish that I could have taken it easy today.

Since D has not gotten a job ( she is thinking of retiring if one does not manifest in the next couple of months); she went to the Pacific Northwest to spend some time with her best butch friend of 40+ years for a week. I am happy for her to get to do this. They scheduled this over a month ago and D bought her plane tickets, etc.

As much as I love her, I am glad that she went. She really needed this and any time she can get some camping in (ooh dirt, sleeping in a sleeping bag with my fucked up back-even on an air mattress or whatever you call them-, no shower, etc. ooh no)
without me-that's a great thing.

It will still be hot today but the temperature will start to drop.

I know I have blabbed a lot this week :| It has been a tough one for me. I appreciate and enjoy reading everyone's posts and I always appreciate your comments on my posts...

Today "Pain in the Ass" was enough to make me dial back for a day. This is the third therefore most painful day of new exercise for me and I am thinking it should be better tomorrow. I tested everything for 10 reps and was a total fail at holding form. Doing it wrong is a bad idea right now while learning.

I did manage the regular 3 miles on sand and saw some of the regulars. Two guys, Eric and Hermon ((sp?) pronounced hair-moan) were doing their daily drill and I really admire it both for the high quality workout they get but also the community service they provide.

These guys come out every day with their big starbucks cups and trash bags in hand. They go the full length of the beach doing their warm-up by picking up litter. This gives them a couple miles worth of toe touches, lunges front and back, lots of sidestep action, and a range of surfaces from hard to soft while walking quickly. Then they toss it and turn around to run/jog most of the way back and finish the last bit up as a series of wind-sprints to the end and round out with calithetics. On the weekends they come out with a football or a soccer ball and run while tossing or kicking it back and forth. They are in fantastic shape and really help keep the beach clean. I really admire the heck out of them.

Bonus points: They both appear to be in their early 50's

The ideal situation, in my opinion, is when exercise isn't something you add on to your life, but something that is woven into it.

Like Daktari riding a bike everywhere.

Or those guys picking up trash on the beach.

I guess that's what the deal was, when we were hunters/gatherers.

There are all kinds of tricks for building exercise into your life.

Some people in NYC get off the train one stop early, so build in some walking to their commute.

Some watch their cable series shows while they're on the exercycle (me :)

Some have physical jobs, where they walk a lot of lift and carry things.

I don't where I'm going with this. Just thinking out loud.

I don't feel very accomplished but at least I got something done besides letting my muscles lock up more.

Me an example of good practice...well that's a new one! :cheesy:

It's the only way I can do it. I can't abide gyms with their sweaty, recycled air....I worked in one in my youth. I also can't bring myself to pay for an indoor space to do something that I can do outside for free.

I'm lucky in that I live in a country where using a bicycle as my daily transport is easily achievable; even if at times it's a wee bit skeery on dual carriage-ways and/or busy roads.

Being out in the fresh air is vital for me; Often, making sure I don't put music, a book or the radio on my ipod. I like the meditative nature of exercise in silence and in the fresh air. I also like to pray...to a god of my own understanding...which can make the experience quite 'spiritual'...I know that's not for everyone but it works for me.

I'm going to miss cycling anywhere today because I'm off to a dykey wedding and will be hither & thither all day and dancing at the céilidh tonight if there's any puff left in the old poof's lungs :winky:

Yesterday was better with some of the worst soreness over so I did the usual beach walk and most of my PT. One thing I discovered on last visit was that I was doing something wrong. Everytime they add 3-4 exercises, okay. Kind of boring and long but ya know... Well it turns out I don't have to. She said I should only do 6 resistance and 3 balancing exercises a day. That was good news. :cheesy:

Have I mentioned that my physio is smokin' hot? :sunglass:

This morning I was doing the ones I have to use a mirror for and it felt really wrong. So, I remembered my trusty video trick and set up my phone for a side view of what I was doing while having to look forward. I'm doing it right. I still think I want a form review next Wed, something does not feel right in there, I'm sure there is some little tweak I need. I am grateful that I am able to keep going and getting checked. It makes a lot of difference at times like this.

Alright, there is a -1.2 uber low tide in 90 minutes and it is a beautiful morning so I am going to hustle my sore ass out there and see what sea critters I can find.

Good workout today! I had one simple goal and that was to best my last workout. Goal: accomplished.

T33 and I hit the random program again, starting at level 3 and eventually working our way up to level 15. I had a few running intervals between 6.0-7.0 mph but nothing crazy. I bumped up the incline levels regularly so it was mostly a hiking workout.

Stats: 472 calories, 3.72 miles, 65 minutes

I managed to get in a 3 mile run this morning with the dogs, the trails around our house are equal parts mud and knee high snow in parts... pretty messy fun!

We had a great hike on Saturday doing a 12 mile return hike to the summit of Humboldt Peak. First 14k summit of the season! It's a pretty easy 14er hike/climb with about a 5k foot elevation gain.

I'm in between terms at school for the next few weeks... so I'm trying to seize the opportunity! We're going do a backpacking trip this weekend...question is, where to? It'll have to be some uber secret, undisclosed location since Memorial day definitely kicks off the summer camping season and other people tend to ruin my view of nature.

I am up to the usual, beach walking and doing (kinda) my PT. The wind has been really blowing the last two days and I'll be glad when it stops. Dries out my eyeballs.

I'm trying out a new tracker too, except mines easier, I just sleep. It's called Sleep Cycle (http://www.sleepcycle.com/examples.html) and it's pretty cool. It tracks when you are in your best sleep cycles for waking or staying asleep and will wake you when you will feel most rested instead of when it will just feel like a freight train hit you.

I like seeing when I am getting my best rest although I can now see that the last couple of hours are pretty inefficient. I have to wait until there are 5 nights of data and then it will give a "quality" rating. You have a lot of flexibility with how it works EXCEPT a function I would really like. I want to be able to say 'wake me at the end of three deep rem cycles when I'm coming out of it.' I could get 80% of my good rest in 4.5 hours. I'm surprised it doesn't do that but I will probably figure a workaround.

It isn't a device, it's an app for iphone that utilizes the on board accelerometer. 0.99 It says it's optimized for iphone 5 but it's fine on my 4s.

Because walking is harder for the ole damaged lungs I think I need to do more of it, when I don't have to be anywhere in particular.

Great workout this morning!

T33 and I got along quite well today. Random program, level 3 to 13. I tried something a little different today.

I took the first 100 calories burned and walked and ran, then I did strictly incline work for the next hundred calories and then I mixed it up again. Between 200-300 calories, I did equal parts intervals and incline work and then again, from 300-400 calories burned. I hit 400 just before the end of the hour so I finished with some more incline work and stretched at the machine. All in all, a good time!

Stats: 466 calories, 3.89 miles, 65 minutes

I decided to hit the hydro massage table before I left. Oh boy! Happiness is: that table. I wantz! Lessons learned: level 1 pressure tickles my tush and makes me giggle. I like it hard when it comes to water, apparently.

Well, I've been using the sleep cycle app for 7 nights now and have mixed feelings. It is a fascinating experiment and that alone is worth it for me. The graph of the nights sleep reveals a lot. Example: The first night my sleep looked rather like the sample of an average night. The next day I had a stressful situation come up, not bad but one of those that sets up brain spin. That second night my sleep graph looked really different and it gradually came back to normal by the fourth night.

As far as I can tell its main purpose, to wake you at the least intrusive time works well. I only did that three days as I normally sleep till I wake anyway. If I were back on someone elses clock I think it would be terrific.

It also has built in heart rate monitoring in that when you turn it off in the morning you are prompted to check the rate via the camera (and it works!). It gives me a record of my waking HR, if only.....See below

The problem for me is in the compilation of the data. It uses 5 nights sleep before it gives a "sleep quality" rating. Hmm, 83% of what? Out of 100? As compared to the night before? My best night so far? Some aritrary scale? It tells me how many hours I was in bed, or more accurately, had the app on. That's good, but any clock tells me that. I would like to be able to set a rolling avg e.g last three nights or last two weeks etc. Same with the HR, one day, and I can scroll back to see each day at a time, but cannot set for any analysis. This would be easy to set up in the back end with a couple of formulas and I think it would add a lot of value. Which leads me to.........Another app! :cheesy:

I think we are getting close to something that will auto aggregate all of these things we track (if you're into it) and in fact quite a few do play well together but then it's back to who has your data? We can export CSV data to a closed excel sheet but that gets a bit messy for most folks. Another app called Loggr (http://www.loggr.me/) looks very promising, I am just starting to tinker with it. If you're into tracking anything at all you can put it here, of course you have to do the putting which will stop a lot of people. But once there it looks like it will be a nice little shortcut to have for making all this info actually useful, or at least more playful. Btw, this is for any data, not just for exercise. Make it up as you go along or use templates. This little guy will also let you export any of it to your personal sheets via CSV if you want to for extended fun of the very geeky variety. I may be in love. :cheer:

Oh yeah, I walked on the beach and did PT.

Just the usual bike rides this weekend. The weather was mild, and the trees are lush and green now as the translucent green of new leaves darkens into their warm-weather pelt.

I go around the park once (it's a three-mile loop), then down that path on Prospect Park West from Grand Army Plaza one straight shot all the way to 15th Street.

Then I took 15th Street all the way down to Third Avenue; long, long blocks of smooth downhill coasting. Then back up the slow incline on 14th Street, then down Vanderbilt to Dean, right on Dean, and I took that bike path to the very end. about 15 blocks I think, then turned around and went home.

I can't imagine those street names are of interest to anyone who isn't familiar with this particular neighborhood. But it gives to satisfaction to recount the route.

I have a little sunburn on my shoulders, and just took a shower. My skin feels tight, in that good way after exercise.

I like to stand on the pedals and pull up on the handlebars with each push down on the pedals. I do that instead of changing gears sometimes. It feels like a full-body workout that way.

My biggest issue with weight loss has been fighting the fight that seems endlessly harder than I ever though it would be.I would lose a few then get stuck going nowhere, exercise harder and longer .eat more or eat less to find the
still where I was...totally frustrating. Then I found out my thyroids and hormones were a wreck plus my sugar count was up.I get it all worked out but my sugar count as it was is a battle and I guess will always be one.My last A C 1 test was over 7 so then metformin came into the game.Boy did I make a diffrents as in the last two months I have lost from 262 to 249.Thought it isn't for weight loss it re gears my body into procesing sugars and carbs that even on a lite workout program I am on the weight loss has gone on.I was shocked when the weight started falling off...I wish I had know about that med sooner.

I tried something new on T33. I tried the Zone Training program, with intervals. I didn't love it because I could have worked harder and done more but the stupid thing kept me between 117-144 beats. I realize that's what I signed up for but c'mon now.....holding onto the handles for the heartbeat reading made me feel confined and restricted. No likey!

I could only tolerate 35 minutes of that. 191 calories burned and 1.65 miles covered.

They got my Stair Master working! Technically, it's a Matrix brand, which should have been my first clue. My second clue was that it had been YEARS since I've actually been on one and the one I used last was old. When did they stop looking less like escalators and more like angled blocks? Anyway, I knew I was out of practice with it and that those particular muscles might not be happy with me, so I did a very short stint. Boy, howdy! I was a sweaty thing when I hopped off of it. 55 calories burned in 8 minutes and that was only on level 1!

Monday

T33 and I got back in sync and did 35 minutes on the random program, levels 3-13 with no running intervals. 218 calories burned and 1.74 miles traveled.

I then popped into the weights area and did a quick basic circuit for 20 minutes.

Good day!

Hey Gemme

I figured out a trick for the heart rate thingy a few years back. The cardio machines tend to vary wildly in calibration of the hand grips so one machine will read a lot different than the others and then the internal calculations go off (calories etc). To get consistent accurate reading you can get the chest strap for a Polar heart rate monitor and use that instead of the grips. All the big manufacturers have that sensor baked in. You don't have to use the grips and you get more accurate readings. You can buy a replacement chest strap without having to get their watch/software/expensive part. Last time I checked they were $20-$30 :cheesy:

Holding onto the handles made me feel constricted. I don't think a chest strap is going to help with that. lol

I do, however, want to get a HRM that I'll be able to wear on my arm but that's about as constricting as I get.

Tuesday

Quickie! It's so hard to get a good workout in and work and still do what I need to do during the day, so most of my workday workouts are around 30 minutes.

T33 was busy when I came in, so I got to know T35 a little better. Random program, levels 3-11, with 2 running intervals of 6.1 and 6.8 mph.

Stats: 218 cal, 1.90 mi, 35 minutes

Wednesday

SYTYCD Night = SUPER quickie!

I decided to try something new in case I liked it better than I did before.

Well, that and the undies I was wearing kept riding up and I didn't want people to be looking at my knickers as I walked or ran.

Soooooo........

Nope.

Still not my favorite by a long shot.

I hopped on a recumbent bike and pedaled my way to 6.79 miles using the random program, level 3.

30 minutes. 168 calories.

I didn't enjoy this workout at. all.

I need to remember not to wear those on workout days.

Back at my running, I took a bit of a break after doing the Bolder Boulder 10k the other week, as well as doing some hiking and backpacking.

Sooo, right back with 5 miles this morning on the trails with the dogs. They definitely have the most fun!

Also started working out with the heavy bag this week, doing some basic drills for about a half hour. It is quite fun, thanks for the tips Venus007... Though I still managed to split 3 of my knuckles! I have since perfected wrapping my hands.

My abdominals have healed enough to get up off the couch without moaning.

Back to Pilates tomorrow at noon for an hour.

Trying to work up to 3 days per week from two...

All of you inspire me!

Though I still managed to split 3 of my knuckles! I have since perfected wrapping my hands.

I wear bag gloves and I wrap my hands still sometimes, if I am particularly angsty, my knuckles get red and a little swollen. I found icing them right after helps. The good part is that with repetition they will toughen up in a bit so that it gets better.

I'm just angsty in general. Actually, it was just using the bag gloves that messed me all up, I thought they were better fitting than they actually are... not so much! Wraps and gloves it is!

Nothing exciting here. Still doing a lot of walking with the pup every day to keep things rolling along. Stable weight, which is better than increasing. I only ever have 5 lbs to lose (which seems to never go away no matter what), so it is not a big deal on that end.

I like having the increase in energy I have when I am exercising regularly. That and health is more my focus.

Dapper, I agree, health and energy are focus, even though I have more than 5 to loose, lol.

Today was most excellent!

Kind of like this, actually:

sFy17auuK08

Without Napoleon, of course.

And the Iron Maiden.

Oh, maybe a little Iron Maiden.

I did do weight training after all.

I headed straight for the circuit training room as soon as I got in the gym at 7am. Well, maybe 7:15 or somewhere between the two but no later than a quarter after for sure.

My ratio was 2 weight lifting sets to 1 cardio set until I finished the whole circuit. It took me close to an hour and no one bothered me until I was halfway through. One guy came in and only worked on arms but he left and never got in my way. I was about 3/4 finished when another guy came in and he didn't get in my way but he came close. He didn't wipe the machines when he was done either. Gross!

I then moved straight on to T33 and we had a rousing bout of walking and pseudo-hiking. Random program, levels 3-12. No running intervals. It was hard not to too because I came very close to a milestone but I did not break protocol in order to reach it. An exercise in self-control that I passed with flying colors!

T33 stats:

398 calories, 3.49 miles, 65 minutes

If I didn't have to go at that moment, I would have started another program and continued for another 30-60 minutes, easy. The urge to continue was very strong. I was totally in the zone today!!!

I went on a 2.5 hour walk in Riverside Park. For the most part I walked repeatedly in a fairly small, nicely shaded circle that consisted of walking up a set of steps and down the Forever Wild dirt path amongst the trees. I'm very into this set of steps because they are spaced far apart, like a slope instead of just up. Thus I can jog up the steps at an angle that is more knee friendly. It's a nice sprint. I got very dirty on the Forever Wild path. I guess it's labeled as wild for a reason. It was so warm and fragrant on the Forever Wild path that it was worth it. When I repeat a small area, I see the same people who are sitting on the grass and on the benches over and over (and vice versa if they are looking but usually they are not). I just keep circling around them like a shark in a fanny pack. Then I went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the stair master, followed by a cold shower to remove the "wild." My gym only offers cold showers but I didn't want to take the "wild" home so I endured the madness.

Yesterday, I contorted my body in a very small space in order to to remove the hardtop from my very small two seater car. Stripped screws are NOT fun! :seeingstars: I really was concerned I wasn't going to be remove the screws and therefore not be able to remove the hardtop of the convertible.

So glad I got it off. Nothing like driving with the top down!

at work:

I had to haul 3 things (1.5 cu ft each) of soil for my client... I say it counts!!

after work:

a 2 mile hike (about 30% uphill) with 3lbs ankle weights...the weights work totally different muscles. I felt my inner and upper outer thighs (around the hip flexors) and even my calves and butt a little on the hills....my knee started giving me grief at the top of the hill, so i used the weigjts in my hands instead...

im thinking yoga with wrist weights would be interesting.....as would the tae bo ish workout I have.....

tonight : a step workout with 5~7lb weights.... Im trying to "earn" my TV time by exercising as I watch.... :)

Super sore from yesterday's circuit training but far less than if I hadn't stretched well, had the massage and took a couple of fake Aleve before bed. Even my calves are tender, which is out of the ordinary. I pushed myself really hard and had an amazing workout. Totally worth it!

Not much today but I did walk down to the Redbox in the rain (a mile round trip). I used to love walking in the rain when I was a kid. Good to know that I haven't completely grown up yet.

started my day out with yoga....

then going to do a cleaning job....it burns calories...so it counts to me...

speaking of which, I may have mentioned previously the site fitday.com They help you calculate your caloric needs for weightloss and even tell you what your everyday activities burn for calories. They even include sexual activity....ahem...

Ive found it to be one of the more user friendly sites that exist...

I went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the Stair Master (Interval program 45/50), followed by a combined hour of weight lifting, planks, and leg exercises.

Trainer to me (while working with a woman named Gail nearby on exercise mat): "How is your day, Ma'am?"

Me: "Good, how's yours?"

Trainer: "Fabulous. Every day is my best day."

I've been using that site for about three years now. I don't know which view you use, but a couple of years back they introduced Fitday2 which is the new one I think designed to look like myfitnesspal and it loses about 2/3 of the info for me. If you haven't done it yet, try looking at "classic view", it's more boring looking at first but you can manipulate the data and charts 16 ways from Sunday, very fun if you like numbers. :cheesy:

youre officially my guru now :)

Today I did the 2 mile hike with ankle weights...then I added in a climb up the Quabbin dike....which...is straight uphill.....theres a series of 3 tiers. I did two of the three....one with weights one without. Then I went downhill....which for me is actually harder...or used to be....with the weights and finished my walk with them....

when I say straight uphill.....standing still killed my calves...and nothing kills my calves....Im sure it was over 100 feet in total....so I did 2/3.....and will be adding it on to my repetoire.... :)

Still doing Pilates. I really love it.

I never thought I would find a form of exercise that I not only enjoy but miss after a couple of days off.

It never feels difficult while I am doing it but always need a couple of days for my muscles to recover between times.

I had to get a blood pressure cuff for my new PT back exercises.

They have me put it under the small of my back when I lay down, then I have to do various inverted marches and other leg things without making the needle on the gauge move.

That's a whole lot harder than it sounds and really works the lower abs.

Combined with my "I don't even know how many" squats in various configurations with resistance bands make for a pretty good core workout.

Now, if it only would only hurt less.

ever the minstrel of knowledge Kelt; I never thought to look for core exercises using resistance bands...I have many! My back doesnt like floor exercises...and my dogs always come smell me if I do get down on the floor...so....I will look into that now that you gave me a mind to. :)
today was an epic fail for exercise. I did 15 min of my typical 30 min yoga...so basically it was stretching; couldnt go for my walk after work since I knew my mother needed to go to the ER (Shes fine tg) and then I ran errands after dinner then came home and started some heavy cleaning for no apparent reason. Still...I should throw on my big girl yoga pants and get it done....but....i dont wannnna ..... im TIRED

I did an hour on the stair master (Intervals: 45/50) and then a combined hour of weight lifting, abs, and yoga. I've become addicted to the stair master for now. Love it!

Story from the gym (not from today but I can't help thinking about it whenever I have the choice between stairs and an elevator in life... which is, of course, a lot):

This normal looking, fit, young woman had just finished some intense exercise class, and she was at that level of combined fatigue and exhilaration where one is somewhat psychotic. I heard her whisper to herself in a fog, "I'm so exhausted. I'm going to take the elevator." And then she stopped suddenly, turned on her heel, her glassy eyes wide, and whispered to herself definitively, "No, I'm going to take the stairs." It was like she caught herself while in a post exercise delirium almost committing the sin of taking the elevator, but instead she was going to keep the momentum alive. It was so memorable to be inside her internal process. Not sure why! It still gives me a laugh but also holds some power in it I guess.

I know that feeling! I've been that glassy-eyed girl!

When the endorphins are doing their thing it does feel like a crime to take an easy way out when you have an option. I'm already sweaty and I think to myself that every single movement counts, because when I'm honest with myself, I know I'm not going to workout as much as I should so I try to make every second that I do count.

Those are my quality over quantity days.

I did an hour on the stair master (Intervals: 45/50) and then a combined hour of weight lifting, planks, and stretching.

Who did I end up next to again but Clayton, the Positive Trainer, training a woman named Samantha. He asked again how I was, and I again said, "Good, how are you?" He said, "Fabulous! I couldn't be better!" :hrmph: I get a laugh how he sounds so sexual when instructing his clients, "Samantha, I want you to get on all fours!....Now, Samantha, turn over on your back and lift your rear-end!" It's all said in such a definitively positive tone. He says it without any sleaze which somehow makes it all the more perverse to me. :mohawk:
