Up the hill in the backyard, get an arm load of lumber from the top near the fence, down the hill, through the gate, load onto truck ... cycled through that about 5 hours today ... also cut up several large pallets and did the cyclic thing with them too ... hard to part with some of it ... had to hold it, roll it over and examine it and think what a fine piece of wood ... that sentimental crap held me back some but just as well ... my feet are worn out but will feel brand new in the morning :)

Another stellar Sunday!

45 minutes-ish in the circuit training room. Two parts machine to one part step ups/cardio. I concentrated on quantity for the first set but quality for the second and used a lighter weight the second time for most of the machines to ensure the best form possible.

It worked too. No tweaked or pinched nerves this time which is good because there's no hour long massage afterwards this time either. I did do the hydromassage for 10 minutes, but it's soooooo not the same thing.

Only a couple of people came in and worked the machines while I did but no one get in my way. Woot.

I hoped on my buddy, T33, and we walked/hiked steadily for an hour plus cool down. It seemed as if T33 was going easy on me today even though I regularly upped the level. I even got in one running interval of 1.5 minutes @ 6.0 mph.

Final T33 stat tally: 445 calories, 3.45 miles, 65 minutes.

I didn't feel the physical urge to continue to do more like I did last week but I got a lot of work in, so I feel good about that.

Today I did 30 minutes on the Stair Master (45/50 intervals), 30 minutes of weight lifting, and 30 minutes of yoga.

I listened to a female trainer and the woman she was training chat with each other. The trainer was planning on going on some organized group hiking and camping expedition that was like adventure travel. Here is a highlight from the exchange:

Trainer: "There is nowhere to go to the bathroom, so I will have to dig a hole and bury my shit, and that will be hard, because I shit like three times a day."

Woman being trained: "Sometimes my shit schedule changes when I travel, like I just won't shit. So maybe it won't be that bad. Know what I mean?"

Trainer: "Yeah, I hope so."

They seemed to have quite a close bond and even whispered to each other on occasion when things got personal. But if they didn't choose to whisper that exchange I just cited, it sure made me wonder what was worthy of being kept quiet :|

On Wednesday I up'd my work out a bit cause I was really tired with what I was doing,I used the stepper and epillipitical for 50 steps each and did them with ease.Later in the day my joints started hurting then becoming stiff plus my knee felt on fire,no pain just burning,so I iced it a lot but it took till today to stop being hot.I feel better today and even played some basket ball then rode the bike a while so all is well at the moment and tomorrow is another day.Take care all.

I only have mild soreness in my shoulders and tri area this morning. With no massage and no anti-inflammatories to counterbalance yesterday's workout. Sweet. That will make work much easier; not wincing every time I lift my arms more than a micrometer. lol

Jennifer, I can sympathize with the trainer. When I am working out regularly and eating well, I am more regular and regular more often. The whole body system works better in general but especially elimination.

I, personally, prefer indoor plumbing so that kind of trip would not be for me.

today I left work a little early to get a swim in the outdoor pool (it was so gorgeous out that I needed to get a bit of a tan, as well). The outside pools lanes are 2x the length of the leisure pool that I usually swim an hour in. I have been building up my stamina for these lanes and today I swam 45 minutes in a lane double the length. Feel great. As a reward (with sunscreen on) I needed to dry off my bathing suit in the sun (excuse for staying a laying in the sun). Look healthy

tomorrow I have a complimentary session with a personal trainer, didn't ask if it was an hour or a half hour but I am sure that this woman is going to come up with a program that will work my core.

Looking forward to it. May give myself a gift this summer and get a session every other week until I "get" what I need to do.

wow, had the assessment by the personal trainer and it was really excellent. It answered a lot of questions regarding some weaknesses in my body as a result of a what is thought to be a TIA last summer.

Now I really owe it to myself to use some of my summer work money (since I am not going anywhere) to work weekly with this trainer.

I just started using an app called Zombies, Run! today. I'm not usually the kind of person who really enjoys running unless its while playing a sport. But this was a lot of fun! Basically an app that takes you through a zombie apocalypse scenario as you run. You complete missions and accumulate different items to bring back to your base as you run. Currently there are 3 seasons and there's apparently a pretty elaborate plot line behind it. So far seems interesting anyway. Almost like a book on tape or something, but interactive. And your phone GPS tracks how far you've gone, average speed as well as items you collected.

Its also pretty open as far as ability as well. It doesn't really push you to run faster than you can, and it doesn't really penalise you for walking if you need to. Have read some people saying even walking "faster" when it tells you to run is fine for them. Today I ran and walked in intervals when I used it.

Oh and apparently you can adjust it to use on cardio equipment as well, but I haven't tried that yet myself so dunno how well it works.

It seemed like whenever I aimed myself towards any machines this morning, someone got in my way and/or was on it already.

Hrmph.

T33 and I had a grand time on our own despite that. The usual random program underway and I started at my usual level 3, but every 15 minutes I bumped it up 3-4 levels, ending at level 14. I had 3 running intervals in the first 15 minutes at 6.0 mph for 1 minute at a time.

Stats: 429 calories, 3.53 miles, 65 minutes

After I stretched, I finally found a couple of unoccupied ab machines and did a couple of light sets and I also did a set on the back machine.

At least my core got a little bit of help today because no one was willing to give up anything else that I wanted. That's what I get for laying around in bed, listening to the rain. Early bird gets the worm and all that.....

I just started Day 1 of my ten days off between the end of the regular school year and the beginning of working summer school. I'm looking forward to my gymcation and got a great start today. I did two hours on the Stair Master (45/50 intervals) and then a combined hour of weight lifting, ab exercises, leg exercises, and stretching. At one point while exercising I listened to the conversation in a personal training session. At the end of the session the trainer (a man) said to the woman he was training, "I had fun killing you today, Babe. Have a blessed weekend." Just for fun, I later said it to myself (only in my mind) when I finished my own workout :).

Heat index over 100 today and horrible humidity. Mowed the lawn. I know I dropped at least 5 pounds ... all fluid. Became a little dizzy one time doing the hill part and sat down a few minutes. Plus, had to unload lots from my new truck and sort. I hurriedly went by Goodyear and got all my things from my old truck before the Ford dealership came to retrieve it.

I have decided I am not pushing myself so hard outdoors anymore trying to get everything accomplished fast in one or two days. It will all get done eventually.

minutes.I also am now using a wrap around ab support to help my back not to tie up on me,works good too.

It's a good idea to take things slower when the heat and humidity are high. For next time, think about sports drinks. On days like that, you need to replace your salt and electrolytes lost through sweat. Maybe also keep a small piece of candy in your pocket and pop it when you feel lightheaded.

Sunday

Circuit training interspersed with cardio for the first hour. I'm liking doing the two sets of weight training to one cardio and I'm liking going for max weight and reps the first set and focusing more on form with lighter weights the second set (quantity then quality). It's working out for me in that I have far less soreness than I used to, even when I only stretch for a few minutes afterwards and don't take anything before bed.

I thought I'd have to pass on T33, as someone got on her halfway through my circuit training, but they were gone when I was done so we were reunited.

And it felt so good.

Still going to Pilates. Remarkably no pain any more the day after a workout.

It is a quite exhausting 60 minutes. I doubt I would ever do it every day. 2-3 times a week is enough for me.

I have also found out which muscles have adapted and taken over for others; depending on which area suffered injury or surgery.

I am working on building up enough to be able to keep up with level one class sessions, instead of private or semi-private ones.

The women that do it all the time are awesome: lithe and tight.

I know that I am doing something really good for my body.

Pilates makes me feel alive.

I fled from zombies to the sound of German speed metal again today :D It was good fun, but apparently my average pace was a tiny bit slower than last time which was a bit disappointing. But what the hell, it's only my second session (have decided to run once a week and elliptical on other workout days) so shouldn't be too down on myself.

I also did a shoulder work out today with seated dumbbell shoulder press, side raises and rear delt flies.

I've been trying to get the courage to go swimming at my gym (YMCA). I've really wanted to start since I got my membership there and was one of the reason I chose that gym. But I'm still a bit nervous. It seems to be a trans friendlier gym than most, anyways, and my scars are pretty faded by now. But it still makes me nervous to swim at a non-trans event. It would be nice as a different form of cardio on days where I don't feel like running on the track or going on the elliptical though...

Heading out for an early yoga session before classes today. I've had a brutal school schedule this summer and I'm finding it difficult to work in my normal workouts... That and the World Cup, which actually goes hand in hand with afternoon beers. I've compensated by riding my bike to class 3-4 days week, approximately 11 miles one way. Nice ride for the most part with a couple routes to choose from as the as the city is mostly bike friendly. The city, not the drivers. I also encountered my first bike path traffic jam on 'Bike to Work Day', Wednesday... *grumble* people, your bikes work on other days too!

That poor guy. That's the problem with home equipment. It's just not as sturdy and durable and safe as gym equipment. At least he didn't face plant it.

I think T33 and I are headed for a time out. She's been moody lately and when I am transitioning from my runs to my walking speed, she's very slow on the decline and sometimes gets hung up. Maybe she needs space. I'm pretty sure I'm going to walk in one day and there's going to be an 'out of order' sign on her soon.

But that's okay. There are other treadmills in this world. I'll find another one that's close to a fan and hides between other equipment.

*sniff*

Anyway, she was weirder than normal last night. Kept refusing to give me decent inclines so I kept raising the level. It was a workout but I feel the struggle with her was harder than the workout itself.

30 minutes total for 250 calories and 2.07 miles.

I kept my speed between 3.9-5.5 and used the manual program. I worked hard enough to make me sweat but it wasn't pouring off of me or down my back, which always feels weird.

My main problem with the elliptical is that the balls and pads of my feet start to burn after a short amount of time and it becomes a bit uncomfortable. I wind up shifting my feet consistently to alleviate some of the discomfort but from that point on, I'm not a happy girl.

Eh. It was okay.

I finished up with light stretching and 30x30 abs.

1 hr stair master, 20 minutes weight lifting, 40 minutes yoga and stretching

I was next to jill on the stair master for the first time. I was first up. She was really into the World Cup soccer game. I was watching Desperate Living, an old John Waters movie with lots of filthy sex and nudity in it. I was hoping she wouldn't look over and then maybe report me to the gym's powers that be.

I saw my friend Lakeesha a few times. She went for a mani/pedi and then reappeared. It gets a l little awkward because we have to keep repeating, "Have a good night," and stuff, only to see each other later. She told me that earlier in the week a man in his fifties died on the basketball court during a game. I told her that downstairs I saw a man sitting up on a stretcher with some EMTs. He was wearing a t-shirt that said, "Aging is optional." I didn't tell her about the t-shirt because it seemed inappropriate given that we were having a somber conversation.

I don't have any EMT stories from the gym but I am including the treadmill in my routine, went 20 minutes at a 3 mile pace which is an increase in speed for me. Did another 40 minutes on machines.

went to lay in the sun and started to swim. in this club there is very little lane sharing but when there is, they always come to ask me (not anyone else if I am there if they can share my lane. That throws me off because then I just worry about the pace I am going. So, I abdicate because it is my craziness about lane sharing and I don't want to not be a generous club member. So I only got to swim 5 laps

Gym today: 1 hour stair master, 15 minutes weight lifting, 30 minutes floor exercises (abs, legs, back), and 15 minutes stretching.

I was next to my friend Lakeesha on the stair master and nearby Jill, who was on an Arc Trainer. Lakeesha was having an intense break-up fight with a cheating boyfriend over the phone while on the Stair Master. The man on the Stair Master next to me said, "Jesus Christ!" It was in reaction to Lakeesha being on the phone. I didn't mind since it was my friend, and of course I want to know what's going on in her life. When the man got off he approached Lakeesha from the ground and yelled up to her, "You know you're not supposed to be on the phone, right!" She said, "I know!" and got off soon after, telling me her heart rate was too high to be on the Stair Master. Um, yeah, I'd guess it would be!

Fantastic workout this morning!

I seem to do well with hard workouts after a night of lost sleep. Not every time, certainly, but enough to notice a pattern. Interesting...

T33 was in a better mood though she still held back on me a little. I could tell. Random program again. Why? Because I bore easily and it naturally shakes thing up. Levels 3-20. Why? Because T33 was holding back and I kept upping the levels in order to feel the same 'work' that I typically do. 1 running interval @ 6.2 mph for 1.5 minutes. Why? Because that's all she gave me before I upped the levels too high to run.

Stats: 519 calories, 3.51 miles, 65:00 minutes

Why?

Because I'm freakin' awesome.

:weightlifter:

Also, I did a handful of reps on one of the ab machines. Nothing major but just enough to say that I did something.

Annnnnd.....I just came back from another Redbox jaunt, so that's another mile under my belt today.

Excellent workout, day two!

I went to bed verrrrrry late/early so when my eyes popped open at 6:40something (even though I did NOT set the alarm), I had a stern talk with myself and it took some doing, but I finally nodded back off about half an hour later.

Wake up number two at 8:54 was far more successful but I did wind up having to drive back to the apartment since I forgot something important. Doh!

Finalllllly....I get to the gym and get situated and it's not bad at all. 10am is a fairly quiet time so I took advantage of it and did circuit training for the first 30-40 minutes. My left wrist has been hurting for the past several days so I haven't pushed anything with weights really hard but it felt better today and I kept checking in with myself so I think it will be okay. Just in case, I stopped at a sports store in the same plaza as my gym and picked up a wrist compression wrap that I can wear over my gloves and can switch sides if I overdo the right one. Got a discount for being a gym member too. Sweet!

I got 2 to 3 sets in at each station and did between 10 and 15 reps per set, depending on whether I was doing 2 15 rep sets or 3 10 rep sets. Breaking it down into smaller groups of reps makes it feel more doable. I split the ab stuff up too. The machine they have in the circuit room has two levels of rungs to put your feet and you set the weight and pull the bars forward above your head into a crunch/sit up. I do one set on the lower level of the rungs and then one set with my feet on the top rung and then I switch one of my feet, so that one is high and one is low. Then I'll do my last set with those feet switched so that the one that was low before is now high and vice versa.

T33 and I are on the mend. I think I figured it out. She missed the runs. I haven't been doing as many because I can burn the same amount of calories with higher incline and have less stress on my joints, but I think when we work together again I'll make more of an effort to get my running intervals in.

Random program, levels 3-14. 4 running intervals during the program at 6.0 mph for 60 seconds each and 1 more during the cool down, same speed and time.

Stats: 468 calories, 3.64 miles, 65:00 minutes

There's just a little over 50 calories' difference between yesterday and today's stats and I was at level 20 yesterday and level 14 today. Yeah, T33 was miffed at me yesterday. I could feel it. But things are looking up now!

Side note: my gym is stingy with the a/c. I pick where I work out based on where the fans are because that's the only moving air I get and even then, the fans are never on high like they should be. Not even when the place is packed. Today I felt warm pockets of air behind me, on my left. That's where a vent is. Throughout my workout, I felt a slight cool push of air from time to time from it but there were these pockets of warm air too. Not sure what's going on with their system or if anyone was messing with it, but if that keeps up it's going to make me sick. I have to have moving air on me when I work out otherwise I feel nauseated if I'm working hard. I miss the Y I went to in WA state. First, it was close enough to walk to. Second, their treadmills all had fans attached to each machine, so if you wanted/needed moving air, you could turn it on to your desired setting and be good. I really miss that.

They had a rowing machine too and I totally miss that. That was one of my favorite pieces of equipment. I got a great upper body and cardio workout and I didn't have to worry about injuring my wrists (ongoing issue; I have weak wrists) or pinching a nerve like I do with the shoulder presses.

Quick one today!

T33 and I puttered along. It was a hard day at work so I took it easy on myself tonight.

Random program, levels 3-11. No running intervals.

Stats: 257 calories, 1.81 miles, 35 minutes

For the record, I don't think I've ever burped while working out.

However, I have tooted once or a hundred times. It's all that bouncing around and jarring motion. It shakes it loose.

Luckily for myself and everyone around me, they tend to be methane-free.

I burp a lot when I run or do strenuous hikes...it's likely all the breathing and excessive intake of air. But I prefer blaming the altitude... Maybe I just have no manners.

Rockinonahigh
07-02-2014, 11:12 AM
Burping is a reaction of two things, one is from what we eat or drink that forms a gas that we just have two ways of getting rid of,the other is from air that gets into the stomach when we breath while doing things that include breathing deeper and faster than normal from a gulping reflex as in working out or being active.I have this problem that is a pain in the ass when I am around people. My Doctor told me to use something called gas X chew tablets, they work great and do taste good to boot.I can't tell you how many times I have bent over the pool table to make a shot that I had to burp first..the pills are god send.

Today I did 30 minutes on the Stair Master (45/50 intervals), 15 minutes of weight lifting, and 15 minutes of stretching.

When I walked out of the gym, it was raining hard. The woman walking out behind me said indignantly, "Was this supposed to happen?" Rain had indeed been predicted but the question felt a bit entitled to me, and I decided to let it stand and be on my way.

T33 was in a snit tonight. Reeeeally wanted me to run. Kept giving me long stretches of minimal incline. I finally gave in and did one interval but she kept doing it the whole time. Cost me a bunch of calories but I was annoyed before I hopped on the treadmill so I can't fuss too much.

The pants I was wearing were uncomfortable but I didn't realize this until I was already at the gym. No way I was going home to change because I never would have left to come back out.

I felt off today and really didn't want to go to the gym but I had to go to the plaza anyway so there was no good excuse not to go. It was an okay workout but between my pants and thinking about a couple of entitled snotty customers, I couldn't really focus on me and getting my sweat on. Kind of a bleh day.

Soooo, I forgot my notebook that I tally my workout information in. Okay. I found some paper and a pen. Problem solved.

I also forgot an envelope that I needed to mail for work. That's a bit of a problem. I stopped at the bank but had to come back to the office and get the envelope and get it prepped to go out. Luckily, it looks like the mail is running late today. If I'm wrong and we just didn't get anything (pretty damn impossible this time of the month for my work), then I'll have to run the envelope down to the post office after my shower. It has to go out today, so whatever it takes to make it happen is what needs to happen.

I'm telling you this because this is my mindset when I got to the gym. It was one "Crap!" after another. Sounds like I was setting myself up for another less than stellar workout, huh? I woke up at 5:46 this morning and said 'oh, HELL no!' to myself and got myself back to sleep for another 2 hours. That is what did it, I think. If I didn't get those extra zzzzz's, I bet it would have been a miserable workout but I did and it wasn't, so there.

I did a smidge over 30 minutes of circuit training, abs included, and then moved onto T33. She remembered last night and was stingy with her 0.0 inclines, which is what I do my intervals on. I took advantage of a 30 seconder, which is frustrating because by the time you get accelerated to the correct speed, you only get 10-15 seconds of straight running before you have to start decelerating but I think that helped and I also took another minute and a half interval, which was nice even though it wasn't 0.0 incline.

I knew I wouldn't have too many intervals since I was regularly bumping up the levels and once you get past level 7, there's no such thing as 0.0 intervals. None. Nada. Nihil.

During the cooldown, I took advantage and got another minute and a half interval in, which was nice. It helped push me over my goal and that made me happy.

All in all, despite a rough start, it was a most excellent workout. Random program, levels 3-16.

1 running interval for 30 seconds at 6.0 mph, 0.0 incline.
1 running interval for 90 seconds at 6.0 mph, 1.5 incline.
1 running interval for 90 seconds at 6.0 mph, 1.0 incline.

Stats: 502 calories, 3.64 miles, 65:00 minutes.

I wrote this truly inspirational post and then the power blew out and then I had to go into work for a little bit to counteract the damage and then I came back and it said I could restore my page and I was like 'cool!' and it restored and I finished the post (it was most excellent, I assure you) and then I copied it just in case something happened and then something happened and when I pulled up a new post and went to paste it, it wasn't there to be pasted.

*breath*

Gone.

Poof.

C'est la vie.

Happy July 4th, regardless!

I've found some independence from negative thought lately. With each and every workout, I extricate myself bit by bit from my self-imposed judgments and criticisms as well as societal demands placed on females and especially females that are aging, as I am. I'm trying damn hard to fight gravity but also to give myself credit when I should. My body's doing what it's supposed to do. I just want to nudge it in a direction that will allow it to do what it's doing but more on my terms than those of gravity alone.

My workouts won't change the world, but they change my world and that's pretty damn awesome for me. A good ole endorphin rush can do wonders for my psyche and after a few months of regular weight workouts, I'll probably be a little less lumpy, which sounds exciting. Gives me something to look forward to.

Happy Independence Day, everyone!

Today was a really good workout.

I started with circuit training again. You're really not supposed to train the same muscles back to back days but I went super light today and I wanted to see how it would affect my performance. I also added 3 machines. Hip ab- and adductor and back extensions. I'm doing well enough with my chiro appointments that I felt comfortable using it. Probably 40 minutes.

T33 was busy so I went down the line to T27. Random program, levels 3-15.

Running intervals:

.4 incline for 90 seconds @ 6.0 mph
0.0 incline for 60 seconds @ 6.0 mph
0.0 incline for 60 seconds @ 6.0 mph
1.5 incline for 90 seconds @ 6.0 mph

Stats: 485 calories, 3.61 miles, 65:00 minutes

This was definitely a hard workout. They may have something with that whole 'no back to back weight workouts' thing.

Well according to experts it take 21 days to form a habit...good or bad! So day 2 of trying to reform those good habits which were lost the moment summer decided reared its sunny head and blind me with copious food and unhealthy beer distractions.
One thing is for sure, exercise was easier during the long cold winter months and fitness is soooo easy to lose, yet hard to gain back! But with perseverance these goals can be achieved and in 19 mores days this ordeal will feel more enjoyable again.
Anyway, I started the day with some gentle morning yoga followed by 45min spin class...feel the burn..Oh Yes, I sure did!
After work, I went indoor rock-climbing for an hour but that felt more like fun than exercise so don't know if that counts. I'll make up for it tomorrow with a resistance band workout and more cycling.

Keep up the good work folks & :goodluck:

Today is a 'down' day, mostly ... we need to stain our deck but I'm hoping the threat of rain will put a stop to that this weekend. :|

Yesterday, we did an epic 6 hour return bike trip from home in Breckenridge to Vail. Thanks to a great bike path system you can actually cycle up and down the east and west sides of Vail Pass. Awesome day, which I'm seriously feeling today. My girlfriend does more endurance cycling so this 80 miles was nothing for her. I did an hour on the Stairmaster (45/50 intervals), followed by a combined hour of weight lifting, yoga, and floor exercises.

I listened to Jeanine, a trainer, and her frequent client, Diane, for the duration of their session. Jeanine challenges Diane, and Diane gets snappy about it because she doesn't like change. I like how Jeanine could simply put Diane through her paces the way Diane wants but instead she deals with Diane's push-back and makes her learn new things and get things right. One day after a session between them that I unfortunately missed, Jeanine said, "I want to apologize for how I made you feel during the last session." Diane said, "No it was me. I was a bitch." Jeanine said, "I wouldn't go that far." Diane said, "No, it's true. I just don't like change." It's a little like sitting in on a therapy session!

If anyone wondered where the sexy went, wonder no more.

I found it.

:weightlifter:

Apparently, I needed Saturday off. I thought it was a logical and lazy decision but this morning was the first morning in I don't know how long that my thighs and hips didn't feel a stretch and I didn't feel the work I'd done the day before. I lounged around in bed and eased myself into the day.

I worked hard at work and outside it was a bit warm. The day was busy but not unmanageable.

I went to the gym though I had to bully myself into it. I bribed myself with my new fancy spandex workout outfit and promised myself I wouldn't have to do weights but I did bring my gloves and wrist wrap just in case I changed my mind (but I didn't).

Maybe it was the fact that there were only 20 people in the gym or that the fans were actually on a speed faster than slow or maybe it was my new, skin baring top but I finally felt comfortable, temperature-wise. I decided to work with, instead of against, T33 and found myself doing several running intervals and keeping my incline levels down. I still eked out a very respectable workout.

Random program, levels 3-10.

Running intervals:

5~ 60 second intervals @ 6.0mph and 0.0 incline
4~ 60 second intervals @ 6.0mph and 1.5 incline

Stats: 455 calories, 3.81 miles, 65:00 minutes

I got in 5-6 minutes of ab work as well.

When I was done and in the locker room, I saw my reflection in the mirror and I looked good. I had that sheen of perspiration that I find attractive. Kind of dewy and glowing. I liked it!

It twas a good, good day.

You're most welcome cinnamongrrl. :) I hope it helps you on your road to recovery. It definitely did with me and an old injury I had, now I have better posture, flexibility, muscle tone, strength and definition. Yoga is an awesome addition or done on its own for fitness and wellbeing.

This is so true! I have a bad shoulder from an old ski injury and Ive noticed my range of motion has improved greatly. :)
Ive also come up with what I call "chair yoga" for times Im stationary (say because of work) and to help my client who isnt terribly ambulatory. It truly is an exercise anyone can do!
Just as fyi Im fairly sure yoga shows can be found streaming online but Im especially fond of the Namaste dvds. Good variety great scenery and the narrators voice is sooo soothing! Great way to start the day and release tension. :)

Today I did 30 minutes on the stair master while watching a re-run of Judge Judy. I find if I'm exercising very intensely my television standards go way down which is nice because it makes shows more tolerable. Then I did 30 minutes of floor exercises and weight lifting. The pixie-powerful Asian woman I so often end up working out with offered me her free weights when she was done. I said yes even though I didn't want them because I wanted to say yes to her.

Today was an early one on the beach for 4 miles, then home for PT with my new purple "mini-band". How something "mini" can hurt that much is beyond me.

Otherwise working around the house which nowadays includes a bit of lifting too.

Good evening!

I wound up not working out tonight but it's not a total loss. I'm contemplating taking an aerial arts class and was allowed to observe a class tonight. I like the instructor but it looks like the only class I would be able to attend regularly will be taught by a very 'energetic woman in her mid-forties' which sounds awesome to me.

There's another class I'm interested in also, a hoop class, but I wouldn't be able to make it regularly. I'll talk to the owner of the company (it's small and new to my area) and see if something could be worked out. We are only allowed 2 missed classes in an 8 week period, which won't work. Maybe I could do it as a drop in, which would be more expensive, but there aren't restrictions on class attendance.

How exciting is THAT???

Clocked up 20 miles round trip at a gentle cadence and so finished with a yoga routine. I've still bundles of energy so a trip to the local gym to lift some weights should bring about the desired fatigue.

I've been doing yoga for about 5 years now. Totally started because of back pain but kept at it for the attitude adjustment it provides me with. I have to go to classes otherwise I'll totally cheat when I'm on my own... nothing keeps you on track like instructor judgement! This morning, however, my gf and I took it up a notch with "Paddle Board" yoga... I've been seeing these yahoos out on the lake and ponds at the crack of dawn all summer. I had to see what it was all about.

Wow! Totally redefined...if you ever thought yoga was too passive, try doing it on a paddle board! I'm really feeling it this afternoon. It was pretty fun, and actually got the adrenaline going a little bit. Check it out!

45 min. stationary bike (random, level 9)
15 min. elliptical (random, level 9)
90 min. treadmill (random, level 9), speed 3.5, incline .5 to 7.1

A most excellent workout was had by moi this beautiful morn!

The first hour and fifteen minutes was spent doing the circuit (the top 9 machines in any basic circuit plus an ab machine), plus the recent additions (ab- and adductors, glutes, back extension) plus 4 new machines (Hammer curl abs, fly, calf extension and a seated row kind of thing....will need to see what it's actually called next time). The 'new' machines aren't new to me in general, but I haven't used them at this particular gym.

I popped into the locker room to switch out my gear. Gloves and wrist wrap come off and I pick up my log, cloth and MP3 player. Refresh the water bottle and it's on to the next part.

T33, Random program, levels 3-13

No running intervals. I didn't want to kill myself.

Stats: 421 calories, 3.38 miles, 65 minutes

The last 15 minutes or so on the treadmill annoyed me because someone had perfume on and they put too much of it on, so when they sweated, it became overpowering. Ugh. I hate that. I'm not scent sensitive but if it annoyed me, it would have really bothered someone with sensitivities or allergies.

One of my customers came up and swatted my machine to say hi. We were just talking about the gym yesterday. Funny how that works sometimes.

I'm going to finish my lunch and get into the shower then call my boss about something and then go to my hour long massage. After that, there is an art festival not too far away. I see some wandering in my future.

Hell to the yeah!

I didn't get the massage....scheduling snafu on my masseuse's end....but that got rescheduled and I went to the art festival and walked around for a little over 2 hours. I got a bit of a burn too, so tomorrow's an off day for me in order to not make myself cry from tight, spandexy chafing.

I learned today that I can't just add myself or drop in any of the lessons (not really 'classes' but instructional appointments) that my gym has (arms, legs, chest, etc) without meeting with a trainer first. Day off today. Yesterday I went to the hotel gym before my flight home from Portland. I did a half hour on the treadmill (speed 3.5, Random program- level 9, incline .5 to 7.1), 15 minutes of weight lifting, and 15 minutes of yoga. The hotel gym was a generally empty room in the basement open 24/7, room key operated, and hence it was like a temple, so peaceful. There was an overhead t.v. that played out loud but I turned it off and hid the remote under a pile of towels one day and then, when that was too easy, in the Kleenex box the next day. Some lesbians came in to do their laundry (the laundry room being directly connected to the gym like a suite), and I chatted with them while they waited for their laundry and I was on the treadmill. Actually I had thought they were a couple but it turned out one of them was a lesbian and the other was her straight sister. The straight sister said in her Kentucky accent (me being from Ohio), "What was I going to do when I found out she was a lesbian? Stop spending time with her? I couldn't because I already loved her." Kind of heartwarming, definitely better than watching television. :)

I've got three. For me the thing is getting into position and dealing with various and sundry pain stuffs. My most recent one is a quite soft one (http://www.optp.com/PRO-ROLLER-Soft#.U8gy141dW_M) which makes ALL the difference in the world. I have several PT exercises I have to be balanced on it for. You're right though, when it's good it's very good. :)

This morning a couple of beach miles and then about 20 minutes of wandering around in the soft stuff for foot exercise.

Yesterday at PT we worked on a nerve issue in one leg (the other one) and came up with an interesting Rube Goldberg kind of setup for traction on the one side and I'm supposed to do it for 10mins 4-5 times a day for two weeks to see if it will help. So far, I've done it once due to it taking about 10 mins to figure out getting into that configuration. I think I figured out how to make it worse. More trials needed there but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it with a few more tries.

BB (my husbutch) is in England this weekend so I had an extra long work-out. First I went in the early morning to the park by the river and did about an hour of exercise on the playground before the rug rats arrived. There is always so much to do on a playground, and it's nice to look up at trees instead of the gym ceiling! Example of a great playground exercise: Put your ankles in a low swing and face the ground with your palms on the ground. Pull knees in and extend them back and forth while keeping ankles in swing. Then I walked and did outdoor stair climbing for three hours. I stopped at home for lunch and then went to the gym. There I did an hour on the stair master, 30 minutes of weight lifting, and 30 minutes of yoga and stretching. Kind of a perfect day, and hopefully I will sleep well tonight :)

I took some pics that I'm too lazy to post in the gallery because I already posted them on Facebook. So if you want to be my friend on Facebook, message me and we can arrange that.

forced self to go to the gym and do some of the routines that my trainer set up for me. Did some, didn't do as many as I like but I can saw I am feeling "the burn" in my abs and although they are not looking like a "6 pack" they are starting to get some definition. I am really pleased that way my lats and biceps are developing. So much so that I never wanted to wear sleeveless shirts before to show them off but find my self wanting to. :)

Didn't workout as much as I planned yesterday as I was a little distracted but did manage to do my 30min morning yoga and 20min HIIT cycle which left me positively breathless. This morning involves the same routine as yesterday but later another Boxing session is planned. I have to say last week's boxing drills was extremely fun and hit muscle around my shoulders that I never knew existed...I was sore for several days!! :training:

Indeed! The first half of class is spent conditioning and warming up. The second half is actually working the fabric.

We learned grips and some locks and everyone got a chance to invert on the hammocks.

We were pouring sweat before we even touched the silks, actually. Part of it was the no a/c, open door with only a giant floor fan thing and part of it was the ab drills and planking.

Today everyone but me are at the Convention. I was left to handle the calls or whatever happens. Believe me I would rather be here then than there. I ususally go for a walk around the lake at lunch time but today I decided to turn my computer on and put u-tube music as loud as I like. I put on really happy songs that are fun and get you moving. My office is very small but the hall is a circle kind of like a mini track. Since there is no one here to walk the park I decided to walk around the circle of the office. I found my self finding song after song to put in then I found myself running just a bit. It was a great exercise day and I got paid to be here too. :sunglass:

Did I post earlier? I thought I had..hmm

Well I walked the dog for 40 minutes or so this morning...did a lot of running around..one thing entailed walking up a mountain top for an interview...

AND!

I joined the Daily Burn...

I have perused MANY workouts...and I think the variety will keep my interest. And it's great that you can do different things in a day...on top of the calendar they arrange for you..

There is also an eating plan with daily burn which I'm trying for free along with the workouts. I haven't looked into that yet...I, however,HAVE started my own "diet" where I give my dog 1/3 -1/2 of my food. Not only am I eating less..I'm making better choices for us both...like the other night...Taco Bell...NOT a good idea...for either of us...

ok...so...

I tried one of the workouts...

Kickin' it with Keaira to be specific....a kick boxing workout...maybe that's obvious.. I LOVED it! I feel my butt for sure...there's SO much to choose from.. Boredom be GONE!

Oh...and something I did NOT know...you can track your progress.. Like for example... we did burpees...and they have you track how many you do. Hopefully next time I will do more. AND they track your calories burned...I'm sure it's approximate...but still... LOVE IT!

Smiling, or was I smirking,....that no pain no gain slogan going through my head as I climbed the stairs for a second time today. I thought of jen and bb climbing flights of stairs where they lived , almost every day.

How can the July 20-27, Olivia Culinary Cruise, to Italy, France and Spain hurt me if I am at home ...

Two trips a day to my BFF's house as they cruise around, drinking wine, going to vinyards, eating all that cruise ship food, looking for that perfect T-shirt for me and and apron for my girl,,... celebrating their one year wedding anniversary. I am handyman, housplant sitter and Cat Whisperer. Taking care of their 4 critters, two of them live in their upstairs, with their own food and litter box, so I must hike the stairs for hungry cats....

I am going to the pool every morning..I think the Jacuzzi tonight is needed.
Whimp.....two flights of stairs and I wanted a pizza, but had...a bunch of fruit and some halibut they cooked for me before they left.

WOW ny, you are amazing..

Lol where'd you find these? Old man feet sneakers! I actually REALLY like the Vibram FiveFingers. However, I was no easy convert... Defintely had to get over the form factor! Love em for track and road running, not so much for trails. I still like a little more support on the trails around here (too much potential for stubbed toes, twisted ankles).

Slow start to this morning but we are heading out to do some climbing around a place called Montezuma. Last time I climbed up there I got stuck on a crack for about 30 minutes... Here's hoping for no Montezuma's revenge!

Still trolling the beach each morning, still going slowly. My achilles got bad enough that I resorted to lidocaine patches for a few days to calm things down enough to walk at all. I've never used it for anything other than trigger points before but it worked. Having to keep that in mind and be extra careful not to get into "if it doesn't hurt, I can use it" mentality. Going to go without for a bit just to let it hurt again as a biofeedback tool.

Sucks. Also knocks out most of my PT exercises. It's a good thing I've got an appointment tomorrow to figure out how to work around this.

I joined a health club near my home with all the bells and whistles, including an all-year pool and an indoor track. I've already tried the pool and felt incredible after 30 minutes of back and forth. Today, I bought a pair of jazzy neon-purple running shoes and lots of loud socks and hit that track! 13 laps = 1 mile, and I did about 16 (lost count). Of those, I actually got completely around the track "running" like a demented zombie several times, and I did others in a kind of walk-run (such as: walk to one landmark, then jog to another landmark, and repeat). My shoes felt great and so did I after all that. That's it, I'm in. There's no good excuse not to move (I personally don't like the word 'exercise', but I can move :)).

I've also tried a Yoga-stretch class, which isn't as hardcore on poses but more of an all-over stretch (hence the name). Then there's a sort of relaxation at the end. I was so relaxed, I almost fell asleep :-[.

All of that seems to calm my chronic "monkey brain". I have raging ADD and have faced the fact that I have to work with my rapid-firing brain, not against it. If my moving program works, I'm going to keep it up. Getting in some semblance of shape wasn't the first goal, but that would be nice, of course :).

I also stopped at a Wendy's for a quick dinner, which is usually kryptonite for me. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and a side salad :). I believe what I eat also affects my ADD for better or worse. I'm doing my own thing on that front also, but started with not eating starches after 5 P.M. That's about the opposite of what most people do at dinner, with breadbaskets, potatoes, and pasta, not to mention sugary things for dessert. I can have those things, but whole wheat if possible and for breakfast and lunch. I'm working on the sugary things, getting rid of them, as they do nothing but give me "jumping bean" brain. I'm listening to my body, as in "this feels good and this is good for me to eat" vs. "Ugh, that didn't do anything!" I love it, even if it's a program I make up as I go along.

I

Nope. Now you went and done it, grammar criminal.

AND you dangled your 'I' too.

Consecutive sentences!

No milk, chocolate or otherwise, for you!

How about an espresso shot?

As for the exercise stuff, I'm still on the back burner. My neck was poked and prodded and massaged with some nice smelling oil by my chiro today and I was given a couple more stretching exercises to do. It feels better but is still sore and tight.

If I forgot to mention it earlier, my upper body (neck, shoulders and upper back) has freaked out on and off for the past two weeks, making exercise other than walking a bit difficult.

Hopefully, things will iron out and all these whatknots will loosen up. This is not how I prefer my kink, thankyouverymuch.

:eyebat:

As a side note, keeping a lid on my cravings has been tough and I've given in plenty of times but I'm happy to report the needle on the scale hasn't moved much. Just about a pound and a half...totally within my normal day to day fluctuation range. A small win, but I'll take it.

I can't wait to get back to working so hard I have to peel the spandex off like a banana.

Oh, and I found red velvet cookies with white macadamia nuts.

Eeep.

Okay, okay...I didn't cave to the chocolate...I'm in the zone, baby!

But look at that! I DID dangle an "I". I never thought I had anything to dangle. This definitely cures my dangle envy. And ooooh....isn't it the cutest little dangler? :) Off to do my planks!

I did 30 minutes on the stair master (50/65 intervals) and then 15 minutes weight lifting and 15 minutes stretching. I'm in between summer school ending and regular school starting so I'm looking forward to going to the gym or the park most days until I leave for Fire Island on the 22nd.

After running call after call and getting off hours late from work, I was easily ready to throw in the towel to head directly home. Despite being exhausted, I pushed through it and held true to no excuses. I worked out for 30 Minutes on the elliptical random/reverse mode level 10. I wasn't able to do the full hour today with getting off so late and having to be back first thing/ wee hours of the morning..important thing is I went for the time I did have :)

Yay, I'm finally back at the gym today after a couple of weeks off. Energy levels are on the up and only two weeks left of my juice fast. Still taking slow so I can still function in the real world, started with weight training the upper body with high reps but low weights and finished with 45mins moderate cycle on the recumbent bike....it's good to be back :)

I was too tired today to exercise so I took a nap and then went to the gym :)

I did 30 minutes on the stair master (50/65 intervals), 15 min. leg, back, and ab exercises, and 15 min yoga.

I continue to be stressed out as my new cat Cheerio recovers from heart surgery, and the gym routine is keeping me from losing my marbles!
