Wow Zimmy.. .you are finding some great stuff. smiles. That is wonderful. Are you going through ancestry.com? I had thought you mentioned that in another post. That is who My Dad went through as well as ordering books and writing letters to different places. My maternal side is Italian. My maternal grandparents (both deceased) were from Sicily, Italy. My (biological) father's side is Scottish and Irish.
Good morning Jake - the conversation in here regarding ancestry searches is very interesting. I wonder, is that site you speak of, "ancestry.com" a paid site, so much as it is by membership format?
I have my own little story and will try to offer the Reader's Digest version.
A week ago I was out cemetery hopping and taking photos in the countryside. Found a new cemetery and within the first glance saw my family name on a headstone, and then another and another and another.
It was a wonderful feeling. I am not sure if this line of the family is connected, but since I have a box full of papers I began as a teenager, it's worth finding out.
There was an older gentleman on the grounds who offered a hello, and by chance I said, good day and mentioned my excitement at finding my family name. When he found out who it was, he told me he was one of them.
W-O-W. Then he says, come in to the church, you gotta meet my wife. So off I go, and just by chance, it was their turn to clean the church, this little white church in the middle of nowhere.
As it happens, there is a family reunion at the end of July and they are looking for a couple missing links.
Who knows? I might be the one holding the key!
As a sidenote, I wonder if a genealogy thread might be of interest to any of the kitchen peeps that are doing their own searches. It might be neat to share your own great links, or stories of finds.
Just a thought, on less than a cup of coffee (oh my!)
Have a good one, all.

Good Morning Ms. Freyja,
Ancestry.com is a paid site that costs $19.95 a month, but they have records from all over the world. Have fun at the family reunion!!!! I am happy to hear that you may have found the missing link in your family. When I found my biological dad seven years ago, I was literally beside myself. Unfortunately, he would never really put his heart into the relationship and now I don't talk to him. That is why my tree has three different branches on it. One for my mother's side of the family, one for my dad who raised me and one for my bio dad's side. My bio dad's side of the family was ok towards me, but I kept hearing comments about how I did look like him and that hurt. I no longer associate with them and I am happy with the family I do have, my three brothers with my dad and my mom.
I second the thread on ancestry. That is a good idea...
Good luck and have a good Monday,
Zimmy

:bringcoffee: Good morning kitchen dwellers! :)
Before I forget...I know that Arwen had started a geneaology thread...I'll try to remember the name and bump it if I can. I had started a family tree on ancestry.com at one point. That much was free, but if you wanted to be able to click on those enticing little leaves and get info from others, then you have to pay. It's an interesting process though...
My sweetie is still :alarm: but I know she's going to want something hearty to wake up to...so I'll get some ham steaks and eggs going to add to those yummy muffins and bagels. You had me at strawberries and cream Freyja :cheesy:
We're at 106 hours until the :flying: lands and I get all the :kissy: I want.... :cheer:

Well I'm not sure it's light, but I'm craving Cobb salad...crisp romaine lettuce, chunks of chicken, crsip bacon (I'll leave it off yours Lips), hard-boiled egg, diced tomato, diced avocado....
what kind of dressing goes on Cobb salad? Does it have it's own or is there one that is traditional?
Breakfast will be eggs sunny side up and I'll put out the fake bacon by Morningstar and fake sausage by Morningstar tastes just like the same thing only not pork.
LOVE Morningstar lol- i was a vegetarian for 15 years
Tunes? Oh ya! For sure, and because it's Monday...

what kind of dressing goes on Cobb salad? Does it have it's own or is there one that is traditional?
Hi dark crystal :)
Well, first I have to correct an oversight...I forgot the crumbly bleu cheese in the salad! The traditional dressing is made from:
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
3/4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp. dry English mustard
1 small clove garlic, finely minced
1/4 cup full-flavored olive oil
3/4 cup salad oil
But I know some people leave out the crumbly bleu cheese on the salad and use bleu cheese dressing instead...up to you. :)
I like the traditional way...with the greens laid out on a plate and bands of each of the other ingredients...looks pretty like that and makes it easy to customize your bites. :giggle:

Finally working from home and loving it!
I had forgoten how easy it is to just get up, start the coffee and then start the day, responding to email and correcting problems or issues without someone running into the office with something else to distract me! It even gives me a few extra minutes to check the threads and respond if I feel like it!
Unfortunately, Freckles the dawg has already jumped the fence once since I have been home. So her punishment is me watching her like a hawk every time she goes outside. I'll have to wait until payday to get all the necessary hardware for the "invisible" fence....but I'd sure like to know where she is escaping from so I can make the area more inaccessible. I am not real comfortable with putting a shock collar on her......
I hope everyone's Monday is productive.......

Good morning kitchen peeps,
Grey skies greet my day but my soul is full of sunshine.
i woke up very very early and I always love that, bouncing out of bed, turning the coffee on, attacking the to-do list and getting a handle on things.
i do admit that my energy will be anything but peaking around 3 pm this afternoon. Ah well.
JoThanks girl for checking into Arwen's thread and giving it a bump. I will take a peek.
DC- good to know you are enjoying the choices of music each morning. Gosh, imagine you and me on a road trip, the collection of CD's to pass the time, and totally sing-a-long!!!!! :giggle:
Lipstix- oh wow, those gals in the inappropriate interview attire, even after they were instructed on the style! But, sometimes, and this is where it is NOT fair, those kinds of girls can snag a job, without the right credentials, simply because the male interviewer has his judgment, let me say, a little clouded. Well, no one said this world ran on a fair system. Whatevah!
JoSchmmooze- good to see your smiling, and a very relaxed self- swing by for a cuppa java. I'm sure that was the lure, am I correct?
Or was it the fabulous 80's music that gets our toes tapping and hips swaying? Do tell!
So, why is Freckles on a mission to escape? Seems I recall that she was so panicked that you were going to go away again? Is she having a bit of anxiety? Has she jumped before?
Keep us all posted about the progress and success with your invisible fencing, please.
For those that remember our fabulous breakfast guy, Musicman, I got to see him on chat for a few minutes yesterday. Busy as every, he had a few minutes to chat and then poof, he was off taking care of things in corporate music land.
It's Tuesday so let's get this party started!!!!

Jo mentioned last evening that she would come round and make breakfast. I do know, she is the best at prepping all the favourites for Scoote.
How many hours is the countdown now?
But, since I have to eat something as soon as I wake up to stay on top of my blood sugar, I'll put out a small tray.
I've got some homemade apple raisin muffins, and I put cranberries, raisins and walnuts in them as well.
Chock full of healthiness, yup! And a carafe of orange juice (low pulp).
The pot of coffee is a Columbia blend I picked up yesterday. Standard fare for encouraging the eyelids to open.
And last but not least, this music could keep Jo company while she is working in the kitchen.
(I soooooo don't care if this was a fake job;
I totally loved their music....back in the day of cassettes and 8 track tapes, woo hoo, I'm old peeps, hah hah)
Have a good day everyone!

Thanks for getting the music going again Freyja...it does help me dance around while I cook. You made me giggle with the 8-tracks...I had a collection of those as well...and my first car had an 8-track player...oh yea...I was stylin' in that 61 VW Bug :giggle:
Countdown is at 82 hours to :lips: and :gimmehug: in the airport..... :cheer:
Breakfast is on :linecook: eggs cooked to order, sirloin steaks (cuz I do love some steak and eggs), crispy hashbrowns, homemade biscuits...and you have your choice of country style sausage gravy or Scoote's favorite chocolate gravy (what the heck, we're celebrating!). For fruit we've got some fresh watermelon all sliced and ready, and some sweet juicy red seedless grapes as well. Dig in! :eating:
Hope you all have a lovely day today....I'm off to refill my coffee cup, check some threads, answer a few work emails (I love, love, love working from home) and I'll be back. :rrose:

Well I see someone has been up early me too but to tired to make any breakfast. Seems like the date is postponed until she gets back from a business trip in St. Louis Missouri. Oh well such is life. I will just go on with my internship as planned and the rest of my life. If its not meant to be so be it. But it would have been nice to have at least one date before she left. Hell I don't even know if I like her. anyway, just three more days and school is over with Whoo hoo. NYC Pride is this weekend and I'm gonna try to get a group of people together after the parade!! Wish me luck see you guys later have a 10:10 class.

Hello friends :)
Just a quick post tonight and calling out for chinese food...had a doctor appointment for my son this evening (yes, we have an awesome family physician practice that has evening hours)...and he has them baffled. On and off mild fever, a bizarre rash, some isolated joint and muscle aches, fatigue...
They took blood, urine and a throat culture...and will be talking to the folks at the medical school tomorrow. At the moment they're thinking it's a viral infection and his (always very sensitive and reactive) skin is flaring up...the joys of redheads with ultra fair skin. They want to be careful and check for lyme disease and anything rhuemitoid (and hmmm...that's not spelled right but I'm too pooped to check).
Long evening...time to relax with a bailey's coffee...extra whipped cream.

Hope the dr's can figure out what is wrong with your son....Elijah has been the same way and a week ago, the poor little boy couldn't eat bc he was spitting up.
The wonderful state of Florida is waiting for you to return!!! It has been hotter than hell down here and I hope the sun stays out for your vacation.
Have a good night,

Good Evening Everyone,
It has been crazy around here the last few days. I found out yesterday, that the local community college took almost 75% of my gen ed classes from DeVry, so I will only have to take a few gen ed's like physics, microbiology and anatamy. I had my oldest niece stay the night lastnight with my best friend's niece, and those two kept Elijah running around...
Hope you all are having a good night and I am going to leave the night light on for those who might pop in during the night..
Hugs to all of you!!!!

Jo Lyme's disease is nothing to sneeze at!! I had it for almost 10 years and was really sick. they should do a PCR test for Lyme's disease and send it to OLd Lyme, Ct that's where they get the best results!! good luck and I hope your son doesn't have it. Otherwise they should start him on antibiotic right away for three weeks orally. Anything Rhuematoid is another thing and a separate issue. Well with that said Good Morning all! Setting out strong coffee and tea, have to go and walk dogs they are crying to go outside. see ya later.

Good morning everyone :)
:bringcoffee: Well the son is enjoying breakfast in bed...no school for him because of the fever (and the school is doing their last 3 days of 2-1/2 hours a day...academics and tests are over...so no biggie). We are crossing fingers for good news today, but he does have them stumped.
You're right Lips...lyme disease is the big worry and, although his rash is atypical, it's a possibility. They took blood and sent it out, so we should know soon. The good news is that if it's treated quickly and completely with antibiotics it usually responds well...so I'm hanging onto that. We are in an absolutely tick-infested area...and I read online last night that half of the ticks tested in upstate NY are lyme-positive. Lovely. Another good reason to get moving to Florida!
Well...that...and the beach :beachkids: ... and the :love1:

G-D Jo I hope everything turns out alright but with antibiotics you can reverse the symptoms. Yeah the fever is a killer I had that for a long time until they diagnosed me which was a couple of years later by that time it spread to my brain. Have bipolar disorder from it. Yeah got the breakfast this morning all the goodies on the table. Well took one more exam got an A on that one too. Medical coding and billing, this afternoon is pharmacology which I love!! Ok so the date is postponed for a couple of weeks due to a business trip. And the internship wants me to work on a Saturday which is a no go because I'm Jewish and we don't work that day its the Sabbath so I emailed the associate of career services and told them about that. Let's see what happens!! I'm off to have some needed nourishment and lunch then its back for the afternoon well not all afternoon. see ya later!!

Hello Kitchen dwellers, well its a hot and sunny day just like I like have the a/c on and all is well. got a good grade on my pharm final don't know the final grade but I'm sure its gonna be alright. Can't wait until September then I move out of fucking NJ for sure. Too congested and too cold in the winter time and too much snow. Tomorrow is assisting with minor surgeries and phlebotomy final which should be easy. Gonna have to study tomorrow morning I'm beat for the day been up since like 5:30 AM to walk dogs. well don't know whats for supper maybe someone could whip up something nourishing and good. That would be nice!! Have to go and walk dogs for a while be back later to see what goodies have been left and how everyone's day has went leaving coffee and tea for those that need it.:cheer::bringcoffee:

Ack..just wrote a big long post, and managed to delete it instead of submit...pretty much par for the course today!
Thanks to all of you for your well wishes for my son (affectionately known as Rooster to Scoote...for that standing-up-straight-in-the-back bright red hair). The test results won't be back for a week, but they are convinced that it's Lyme's disease and are treating it accordingly. Three weeks of antibiotics, and they assure me he'll be as good as newl
:bringcoffee: Gonna' keep dinner simple tonight with taco night...crispy warm corn tortillas, and bowls to serve yourself to the perfect combo of spicy ground beef, homemade salsa, shredded cheese, sour cream, guacamole, lettuce and fresh diced tomato. Mmmmm.....
For dessert I'm craving some old fashioned banana pudding...the kind with custard, banana slices, and Nilla wafers... :girleating:
:lips: baby....day after tomorrow... :stillheart:
Hugs to everyone...:rrose:

Oh I'm so glad that you found out what is the matter with your son. Make sure he takes his antibiotics and the symptoms will disappear. Its a horrible disease to have I feel for him. I still have good and bad days. If the day is too long for me I feel it very tired so don't be surprised if he sleeps alot, thats just par for the course!! PM me if you want to talk!!

Good Morning Jo Jo,
The sun is shining today with a high in the 90's and the sky is a gorgeous baby blue with no clouds.
I fell asleep yesterday around 615pm in the recliner watching The First 48 and woke up an hour later and went for a power walk. My friend's husband is going to look at my car today, to see why my engine light comes on when I run the a/c for a bit. Having no a/c in Florida during the summer is no fun...My bro thinks it might be a relay switch...
For breakfast, I am thinking maybe having some homemade biscuits with sausage gravy, eggs, hashbrowns, teas<iced and hot>, coffee<all types>, soda's for Scoote and plenty of juice and water to keep us hydrated..
See you all in a bit,
Zimmy
For the music selection, how about the new song from PitBull and Machel Montana to wake us all up??? I love the beat to this song...
Enjoy!!

Good morning friends :) and thanks for making breakfast Zimmy :rrose:
:bringcoffee: I'm loading up on the coffee this morning for sure...a bit of a :seeingstars: morning here, but only 34 hours til my plane touches down and I get the Scoote refill I desperately need :love1:
Rooster is home...managed to get the antibiotic down this morning with only one gagging episode (anyone have any tricks on helping kids learn to swallow pills??). The sore joints and fever are already gone with just 12 hours on the meds...but he's still covered in the rash and very, very tired. Based on the way his body is reacting though I'm guessing they diagnosed correctly...the antibiotics are clearly already helping.
He spends a couple days with Granny while I'm gone (i.e. being completely spoiled and coddled)...I feel better knowing that we've figured this mystery out and gotten the medicine off to a good start before I go.
Today is a busy one for me...work...kid care...and cleaning the house top to bottom (the Realtor is going to try one last open house while I'm gone...crazy guy). I'll be back...
Hugs to all.....and :lips: for my baby...

Jo a good trick on getting kids to swallow their medicine is putting the pill in some pudding rich and creamy kind and thick so they swallow a gob full of pudding and the pill with it. Got two exams this afternoon then I'm done. Fell back asleep this morning for like two hours couldn't make the breakfast, thanks Zimmy for filling in. OK have to have lunch then study some more. see you guys later. Jo good luck with the house and your trip to Florida!!

Hi Jo,
I am glad you got the results back about your son. I am sure it is tedious trying to give him medicine with the gag reflex and all.. however, atleast it was not something more serious. Three weeks of antibiotics is enough. I am glad you are starting to see results already. That is a mother's love shining, indeed. I will light a candle for you and for your son.
Soon you will be on vacation with the one you love. smiles

Hi Everyone,
I am having a great week. Have been busy planning and also helping My Mom with some things. However, waking up each morning with a smile on My face makes the world a brighter place, come what may. I posted some more jewelry in My Etsy store. Now I just have work on doing some promotional stuff. Life is good, indeed.. and getting better each day.
I also have this strong urge to want to go dancing. smiles.

Good Evening Everyone,
I made the Chicken Marsala from a healthy cookbook and with the potatoes and carrots, the total calories was less than 400. I had enough calories left, that I was able to have a cup of Sugar Free Dark Chocolate pudding for dessert. If any of you are interested in the recipe, I can post it in here.
Hope everyone had fun today..

Spaghetti squash is a great substitute. if you want a high pro sub, you can use rice noodles, they are a more friendly carb. especially brown rice noodles, a little harder to find though.

Heya Scoot,
I talked to ChrisButch aka Everest today and I told hym that everyone was asking about hym. Hy said hym and hys family are doing good and thanks for the support. I was hoping to start college in early July, but the college needs my transcripts from my high school and since the school board of Volusia County is slow as Molasses in a Vermont winter, the school hasn't received them. So I am shooting for August 30th now.
Hope Jo Jo had a good and safe flight from New York.

Good Morning Kitchen Patrons,
Jo - I hope you had a safe flight(s).. and are now happily dwelling in scoote's arms.
Zimmy - I feel your pain on the transcripts. I have been there a time or two.. have patience.. and look at it as having more time to enjoy the Summer. smiles.
freyja - thank you for the music...always a wonderful way to start and end a day. How are the ducks coming along?
lipstix - Hope you are not studying to hard over there. I remember what that was like as well. I had a wild moment the other day and thought about going back to school again.. however, I am not sure I could keep up with it all and everything else that goes on in Life. Maybe one class a semester... I am still mulling it over.
Waves to everyone.

Good morning kitchen peeps!
Welcome to the Sunday edition of Jo's wonderful gathering of the clan :D
My mission is to get the coffee machine going on full steam ahead......I went and got some Mexican dark roast yesterday.
This stuff from Second Cup is really divine. i am sure my fellow coffee connosseurs will agree.
And as a light pre breakfast snack, some mini croissants with butter and three fruit marmalade.
Just a little bit to get the blood sugar in check before breakfast does its thing. BTW, who is serving breakfast today?
Jake thanks for asking about the birds i have been following. Yes, almost stalking *grin*. The mute swan family is a wonderful gift of nature.
The young'uns are now 4 weeks old. i was at the water in the pouring rain the other day with my camera, and will be uploading some shots to my blog today. (http://freyjasworld.blogspot.com)
DC - for you my dear sistah - music as you request. i hope this is the one you were thinking of....it makes me so wanna get out on the dance floor.
And DC - how was your Pride last night? Are there photos to share? You know i'm a photo hound :giggle:
Jo has blue painted nails? Awesome......that sounds very summer pretty.
I bet we won't hear much from the girl, and good!
I don't think she should be near a computer what with all the fun in the sun and extra curricular activities she could enjoy.
becca - *waves* hey!!! hi!!! i am sorry you had some nasty heartburn. Did you manage to get it under control?
How is your sweet Damon?

Chilli cheese is Gouda cheese with a lot of chilli mixed in...the roll is a home-made wholemeal bread roll (bun, bap, barmcake -depending on regionality). I can offer you all sorts on your roll lipstixgal, haslet? which is a meaty Lincolnshire (where my girl lives) delicacy or salt beef or maybe a little tuna with coriander, lime and chilli? All with salad and seed sprouts of course. We aim to please on the gustatory front :chef2:

yes lipstixgal I am indeed European, British to be exact. Although it has to be said my food tastes are not typically British, infact my tastes are a little odd! :winky: Now if I was talking with my own regional dialect I'd have spoken of a butty (northern English for sandwich and the roll would have been a bap or a barm-cake). The gouda with chillis in is just a type of cheese that my local supermarket's deli counter has started selling and I'm addicted to it - what's not to love about Dutch cheese and chillies all in one hit?
The prosecco we have is a rather nice example of the Italian fizz *pours out a large flute of prosecco for lipstixgal - and one for Mrs.Incubus too before I get in trouble* :groucho:

Rook you can find those banana leaves in NJ I live near a large hispanic population mostly Dominican and Puerto Rican so its not hard to find. I bet you can find them on the web too. try to google it and see what comes up or I could send you some depending on where you live of course!! Anyway, dinner sounds great arroz con gandules haven't had that in a long time. I used to make it all the time now I'm just too lazy to cook it. Nice day for a latte!! have a great day everyone!!
I'll have to check it out on-line..didnt know they sold 'em...
That and the closest large hispanic "community" to me is...at best..2 hours away...
I wish I lived near one, the best I can do, is visit a local authentic mexican restaurant {and they're stuck in a very public legal problem that I find stupid at best..they're facing closure.}
I appreciate the offer to send some leaves though..-s-
If I can't find any, I'll keep it in mind.
By any chance, you wouldn't have any insider info. on acquiring "fresh" Pasteles?

Hi everyone :)
Yes...my nails are bright blue (fingers and toes)...Scoote carried a basketball-sized piece of coral allllllll the way up the beach for me (she loves me :love1: )...and I am back in NY and wishing I was still with my sweetie :stillheart:
I couldn't believe how warm the water was in Miami...even though the waves were strong, the water was just lovely. And...I love any beach...especially with my sweetie :)
Since I've neglected you all so terribly I'll take over dinner tonight...meatloaf, mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, corn on the cob, glazed carrots, and a nice green salad with homemade vinagrette dressing.
Dessert...homemade chocolate cake, from scratch of course...and some homemade strawberry ice cream :girleating: and a fresh pot of coffee :bringcoffee:

Good Morning Everyone,
I went to my mom's house yesterday and brought my oldest niece and nephew home with me. She needed a break. They are staying with me until we go to Orlando tomorrow to get my niece the Hello Kitty doll for her birthday. We decided to play manhunt lastnight and my nephew came running up behind me and I started screaming, which scared the daylights out of my niece. I couldn't stop laughing.
Since Lisa is off today, I can spend the whole day with them.
Thanks for breakfast!!

Good morning friends (and afternoon for Incubus) :)
Glad to see everyone doing well...Braedon, how are you healing? Feeling yourself again yet? :rrose:
Lips...thank you for a lovely breakfast :girleating: I do love some traditional bagels and cream cheese. I'm going to set out some scrambled eggs (with just a bit of sauteed minced onion) and cheddar cheese in them, some nice slices of fried breakfast ham....and some crispy hashbrowns, of course :cheesy:
:bringcoffee: More coffee is on...and :tea: for Incubus and others that might prefer that too of course!
I'm dancing around the kitchen this morning (thanks Freyja!)...and trying not to get my hopes up. Seems that the realtor had a bomb of an open house while I was gone (lovely day, no people)...but then showed the house on Monday to a young couple. They came back Tuesday with his mother (a.k.a. "the downpayment") and stayed an hour. Seems they really liked the place. Realtor says they are off to the bank to see what they can get approved for a mortgage...and hopes to have an offer from them soon. With all the back and forth, I don't want to get my hopes up (after 4 months of this...ugh)...but they didn't care about the street...and that's been everyone else's main objection. Crossing fingers and :praying:
Hugs to everyone...and hope you have a great day!

We're in a tiny village outside of Syracuse and on a two-lane road...unfortunately we're also the only road between the city of Syracuse and a growing bedroom community of upscale houses...so about 8,000 cars a day go past my front door in two lanes. They go slow...just 35 mph or less, but it's a lot of traffic. People worry about being able to get out of the driveway (although I've rarely had a problem in 9 years...but you can't convince prospective buyers of that!)
And thanks for asking about the Rooster Gail :) He feels totally normal and well again...and thanks to the lovely people on this site who gave me so many tips on helping him get the pills down, he no longer has any trouble swallowing them. The doctor's office called today with the test results and there's no doubt at all that it's positive for Lyme disease. Ugh. They do say that it appears we caught it early though, and the antibiotics should clear it up. He has to go back for a checkup once the antibiotics are gone to be sure, but it all looks good so far. :rrose:
Miami was fun (although it's always fun to be with Scoote)...the water was so incredibly warm at the beach...and we spent the day at Jungle Island and got to be up close with beautiful parrots and the cutest little squirrel monkeys :) The only part that surprised me was how much garbage got dropped on the beach...truly disgusting. I guess folks there take the beach for granted...and there were juice boxes and beer cans and plain ol' trash all over the shoreline. Luckily they had people out picking it up in the morning, but I wonder how much washes out to sea first...and am surprised that so many people are too lazy to walk 15 or 20 feet to the many trash cans provided. It's a shame to ruin such a gorgeous beach!
Driving around was fun...so many beautiful, funky buildings...and a beautiful scene everywhere you looked. Very nice! :)

Well I'm glad to hear that your son is feeling better that's good that they the doctors caught it early that wasn't the case with me. As for the house I wish you the best of luck. for me I'm just going to rent in August and move in September, possibly Florida but I'm leaning toward California and a gay community at that!! I wouldn't worry about the road, I live in the city well suburbs of NJ and there's traffic and people get out they just have to watch that' all. Wow took a benadryl this morning and I still feel groggy!! Had lunch and coffee to try to get rid of that groggy feeling but can't. Anyway, I hope you sell that will encourage me to sell as well.:moonstars:

Do you have the recipe for the chicken fricasse JO?:seeingstars: Oh and chocolate yes definitely we need that:chocolate:
Here you go...chicken fricasse...
Ingredients:
2 pounds chicken pieces (I usually like to use boneless, skinless breasts)
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 teaspoon pepper
3/4 teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
1-1/3 cup water
2/3 cup dry white wine
2 tablespoons butter
2/3 onion, chopped
1 1/3 cup fresh small mushrooms
1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
3/4 cup half and half
Directions:
Wash and dry the chicken pieces. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, nutmeg and paprika. Brown the chicken in hot oil over medium-high heat in a deep heavy pan (like a Dutch oven). Remove the chicken when well browned. Reduce heat to medium, add flour, and cook the flour until lightly browned, stirring constantly. Whisk in water and wine until smooth.
Return the chicken to the Dutch oven; bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to a low simmer. Cook 50 minutes.
Remove chicken, keeping it warm, and reserve the broth (which can be strained to get out any pieces).
Melt butter in Dutch oven, over medium high heat, add onion, cook until lightly browned. Add mushrooms, sage and parsley. Add broth, and chicken. Cook over medium heat, stirring until thoroughly heated.
Most people like this over rice...but personally I make homemade mashed potatoes...smoooosh a deep well in the middle, and fill it with the fricasse. Mmmmm.....comfort food. :) :girleating:

Here you go...chicken fricasse...
Ingredients:
2 pounds chicken pieces (I usually like to use boneless, skinless breasts)
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 teaspoon pepper
3/4 teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
1-1/3 cup water
2/3 cup dry white wine
2 tablespoons butter
2/3 onion, chopped
1 1/3 cup fresh small mushrooms
1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
3/4 cup half and half
Directions:
Wash and dry the chicken pieces. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, nutmeg and paprika. Brown the chicken in hot oil over medium-high heat in a deep heavy pan (like a Dutch oven). Remove the chicken when well browned. Reduce heat to medium, add flour, and cook the flour until lightly browned, stirring constantly. Whisk in water and wine until smooth.
Return the chicken to the Dutch oven; bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to a low simmer. Cook 50 minutes.
Remove chicken, keeping it warm, and reserve the broth (which can be strained to get out any pieces).
Melt butter in Dutch oven, over medium high heat, add onion, cook until lightly browned. Add mushrooms, sage and parsley. Add broth, and chicken. Cook over medium heat, stirring until thoroughly heated.

Seems I'll miss everyone again lipstixgal. It's 10pm here and I'm almost ready to curl up with my book (Patrick Gale - Notes from an exhibition) and a bag of crisps (potato chips).
Now you'll have to tell me about biscuits. What I call a biscuit you call a cookie. So my biscuits really wouldn't go with chicken  (not to mention that I don't even eat cookies or anything with sugar)

A muffin? An english muffin? Do you have a biscuit recipe?
We have loads of different cookies, or rather biscuits here. Loads! Don't tell me no-one offered you a Hobnob? Or a Penguin? Or a Jaffa Cake? Or a ginger nut? I could go on and on. :D
Noooo none of those Kettle crisps for me, far too crunchy. I like Seabrooks Plain or Salt and Vinegar crisps although I am currently addicted to one of their new flavours, Wasabi.

Good evening everyone :)
I would do fried chicken and biscuits, but that would be a bit too much like the chicken fricasse of last night.
Hmmmm....how about a nice roast? That will go with biscuits...especially with gravy made from the pan drippings to sop up. And, of course, a nice fresh green salad...gotta get those greens!
Dessert is gonna' be hot fudge sundaes...just because I'm craving one! :girleating: I make an awesome hot fudge sauce...real whipped cream...toasted peanuts...maraschino cherries :)
I do hope Jo sees this and leaves me a 'biscuits' recipe.
Hi Incubus,
Biscuits are easy. There are lots of different variations, but here's a basic recipe:
Stir together 2 cups flour, 3 tsp. baking powder, and 1 tsp. salt. You want to make sure the salt and baking powder are thoroughly mixed in now, cuz you won't stir much later.
Cut in 6 Tbsp. shortening with a fork or pastry cutter. I use butter-flavored Crisco or regular butter. Cut it in enough to look like fine crumbs.
Stir in 2/3 cup milk. Don't overstir...just enough to moisten the mixture completely.
Turn out onto a floured board and knead lightly for a minute. Over-kneading will make the biscuits tough.
You can roll these out and cut with biscuit cutter (or the mouth of a water glass) if you want round biscuits...or pat into a rectangle and cut into 10 or 12 squares.
Put on ungreased baking sheet and bake at 450 degrees F for 10 - 12 minutes until golden brown.
If you want to try some variations, you can stir in about 1/2 cup of cooked, crisp, crumbled bacon.....or 1/2 grated cheddar cheese.....or 2 tsp. of dry herbs of your choice....or 1/4 tsp. curry powder....or some combination of the above.
Be aware....if you use buttermilk instead of sweet milk, you need to decrease leavening to 2 tsp. baking powder and add 1/4 tsp. baking soda.
Enjoy! :)

Good morning Kitcheneers, it's 10.35am here which I guess means most of you lot aren't awake yet. Well maybe the early risers in the east are. Good Morning Everyone,
Thank you Incubus for the tea this morning...I am thinking of eggs, Canadian Bacon, crispy hashbrowns, toast, coffee, soda's, milk and juice for breakfast this morning....
My niece loved her Hello Kitty doll, and she had to play with it on the way home yesterday. My arm is sore from where my nephew kept frogging it while playing punch buggy...I am taking them back to my mom's house this morning and I loved having them here...I was craving Godiva yesterday while walking around the last mall, and went to the Godiva store there, only to notice that it had been closed...So I had a Mocha Light Frappuccino from Starbucks instead to calm down my chocolate craving...I will tell you all, that even though that drink is sugar free, it is good and it only has 140 calories in it.
Hope everyone had fun lastnight and are having a good start to their weekend...I am off to run away and drink massive amounts of coffee before the kids wake up...
See you all in a bit,
Zimmy

I think I am only going to work like 3 days and have sometime off for the summer. I have to think where I am going to move to which is in like 3 months from now. I need help should I move to Florida or California?? or maybe Arizona which its warm there all year round but no beach bummer!!

Hello to Incubus....I have missed a few days in the kitchen, but did you know the Queen was visiting Canada right now? Yes, we had our birthday yesterday, # 143, and some great festivals in each city and the big one on Parliament Hill.
I'm prepping an album with the events from the day - our red & white in all its glory.
And, this weekend we celebrate Pride # 30.
What a way to bring in the month, party party party!

for some reason that i don't recall i was reading about lamingtons on wikipedia a couple weeks ago- they sound very yummy indeed!
it is weird b/c when i work the reference desk i have to look like i am doing more than just sitting there, but i don't want to bring any actual work out there b/c i will get too into it and then start resenting the patrons that ask for help (even tho that is the whole reason i am out there, i know it's horrible)
so what i do is pull up wikipedia and click "random article" over and over again- so it looks like reference work but it's really just surfing lol
IT NEVER FAILS that i will read about something really random and totally new to me and that topic will come up in coinversation somewhere within the next week- and i get to sound tolly impressive b/c i know all about it lol
last week it was (Houston ex-mayor) Kathy Whitmire- on Friday i surfed randomly to her page after getting Van Halen and then clicking Sammy Hagar and then clicking his ex-band montrose and then clicking disambiguation for montrose and getting the Houston neighborhood montrose and then getting Kathy whitmire b/c she got a lot of votes in montrose!!!
on sunday my friend mentioned her! and asked what ever happened to her! and i was able to tell her she is now a real estate investor in Hawaii!
i still don't remember the path that led me to lamingtons tho

so what i do is pull up wikipedia and click "random article" over and over again- so it looks like reference work but it's really just surfing lol

Aunt Lynn's Scones
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup chopped dried fruit (currants, raisins, cranberries or your choice)
1 1/4 cups heavy cream
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar with a fork. Add the dried fruit and mix well.
2. Add the cream and stir: It will be quite sticky. Turn the mixture onto a lightly floured board and knead 8 or 9 times. Add a little flour if it's too sticky. Shape the dough into an 8-10 inch flat round.
3. Melt 3 Tablespoons of butter. Pour the butter over the round of dough and make sure the sides are covered as well. (Mush it around with your fingers!)
4. Sprinkle the top with 2 Tablespoons of sugar.
5. Using a sharp knife, cut the dough like a pie into 12 wedges and place the wedges onto a lightly-greased cookie sheet.
6. Bake 12 to 15 minutes, until golden brown

Incubus, you're right...they are like savory scones, maybe a little lighter in texture. I lived in Australia for a few years, and the whole biscuit/cookie/scone thing took some adjustments. It is, however, where I got addicted to salt & vinegar chips (crisps) and lamingtons....I adore lamingtons :) I remember the first time someone invited me over for tea and biscuits....I thought  biscuits? Then got there and OOooooohhhh cookies! :cheesy:
*snippety snip*
Ahaaa that makes things much clearer thank-you Jo...softer, lighter, savoury scones, I am interested to try one of those wee beasties.
A woman after my own heart, nothing, absolutely nothing beats Salt and Vinegar, The King of Crisps ('cept maybe Seabrooks Wasabi flavour)
I've never had Lamingtons but I've heard much about them from Aussie mates. How come you were in Aus?
*snipperoo*
Hello to Incubus....I have missed a few days in the kitchen, but did you know the Queen was visiting Canada right now? Yes, we had our birthday yesterday, # 143, and some great festivals in each city and the big one on Parliament Hill.
I'm prepping an album with the events from the day - our red & white in all its glory.
And, this weekend we celebrate Pride # 30.
What a way to bring in the month, party party party!
Have a good day everyone.
Happy end of week!
ps i have some red & white jelly beans leftover from yesterday, so I will leave them on the kitchen counter. Enjoy!!!
Hola freya, I had heard that Lizzie and Phil were making a visit to your shores, inbetween news of the World Cup and Wimbledon. I hope you had a very jolly Canada Day and that you have a wonderful Pride.
our biscuits are a lil bit softer than scones...i make scones a lot, actually- cranberry ones!

God save the Queen!
Hello there dark_crystal (I loved that film and accompanying book) Cranberry scones you say? I know loads of folks who would like those, not me though I'm afraid I don't eat cakes, biscuits, scones, chocolate, sweets (candies) etc.etc.etc...How do you serve your scones? With butter and jam and clotted cream as is traditional?

Not like any scone recipe I've ever made. Softened butter worked into the flour to form breadcrumbs, milk not cream, work the dough lightly, don't over work it or they won't rise then roll out your dough lightly to about a 1.5 - 2 cm thick and then using a cookie cutter cut out as many rounds as your dough will allow. I've never ever seen a wedge shaped scone it has to be said.
If I was at home I'd post my Ma's recipe.

You're very welcome lipstixgal, I hope the link proves successful for you and you get to try the Tunnocks, you won't regret it.
It's been a very quiet day for me, spent puttering around doing this and that, reading a good book, then making flat breads and cooking dinner - my treat for Mrs.I.
I may try making biscuits when I return home next week, Mrs.Incubus isn't enamoured about trying them sadly.
It's really quite humid here at the moment...It's going to be tough to sleep through this muggy night - no air con here!
I hope you're having a lovely evening lipstixgal. Time for us to curl up with Grey's on t.v and then it's bedtime.

Good morning friends :)
:bringcoffee: Putting on a fresh pot of coffee and :tea: for everyone...and setting out the apricot scones (they turned out fabulous...thanks for the recipe darkcrystal...I LOVE it).
I feel like baking cinnamon rolls this morning...the good yeasty kind loaded with brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon and chopped pecans. Mmmmm...
This is gonna be a yardwork weekend for me I think...the yard needs mowing, the weeds need pulling, and the climbing roses at the front of the house grew so big with all the rain that they pulled the trellis over...think a little pruning is in order :giggle:
Our fireworks are tonight...the little village we live in has a nice little display, we walk down to the park about 5 blocks from the house, sit on a blanket on the grass with the other 1,000 or so folks who live here, have a soft ice-cream cone with sprinkles, and watch the fireworks that they set off over the playing fields. Definitely "small town" but lots of fun. :)
Hope you're all having a nice leisurely Saturday morning :rrose:

I went out and mowed the front yard, then weeded the really overgrown, horrible side of the front yard...took about an hour and a half and I came in sweaty and filthy. Still have to do the back yard, but that might wait until tomorrow! :)

you made some scones? awesome and apricot sounds brilliant!
i will be spending the day and night tomorrow with my sister and her family at their beach house...it is in a village that does not have a fireworks ordinance so weill be watching all of her neighbors blow themselves up! She said it is quite a show, it goes on for hours, we can see perfectly from her porch, and they pretty much light up the whole beach....so no driving and no $ and plenty of adult beverages once the cherub goes to sleep

breakfast for dinner is always a hit with me- bacon and eggs delish any time but it seems especially good at dinner, i'll never understand it....i guess it is such a warm cozy smell- and having it at the end of the day when all of the hard stuff is over, instead of at the beginning of the day with the hard stuff ahead of you- just makes it that much cozier!

Our Canada Day was great. One day of rest and then it was the 15th Dyke March Day of our 30th Pride. Weather was hot hot hot. The crowds were awesome.....and if you have any kind of social phobia, the streets were not the place to be, it was one huge street party.
I don't usually do the festivities two days in a row.......I'm not 19 anymore, so I have to pick and choose my partying very carefully *hee hee*

Good MOrning Incubus and Freyja yes we have the day off a bank holiday as you guys call it. yes some toast with eggs will be nice. How about some pancakes and waffles to go with and some strong coffee for those that need it. INcubus did you have too much to drink at the barbecue?? :cheer: Fancy capuccinos and Krispy Kreme??? Is it my birthday or something??? :cheesy:
Thanks Chancie and Brock :rrose: very sweet of you both, and welcome!
Good morning all :bringcoffee: and thank you for the breakfast and music...such a nice way to wake up! I've got the day off today as well (not that I work terribly hard most days anyway :giggle: ). It's still nice to have a sleep in though.
Glad to hear you got the transcript situation worked out Zimmy so you can get back to school. I know that going back to school was the smartest thing I ever did and changed my work life pretty dramatically. Crossing my fingers that it does the same for you.
We are still waiting to hear from the bank (sigh...). Unfortunately short sales take awhile, even though the bank we're working with has a good reputation for moving them along. I had already figured on being in FL by now though...so it's frustrating for sure.
Hope you all have a great day! :)

I am seriously debating what I want for dinner...and am leaning towards risotto...with just a little onion, mushroom, some fresh herbs, chicken stock and just a splash of white wine. :) It's addicting...
Course, Scoote will be looking for the protein...so I'll put on some medallions of filet mignon as well...steam some asparagus...make a nice tossed salad. It's hot out...so dessert is going to be build-your-own ice cream sundaes. :eating:

So I took off 3 days to clean the house... but I have been wore out at work and really just need chill time.. So I am piddling.. getting little things done here and there... Maybe I can take a couple hours and power clean lol...
We went to a little inn in Eureka Springs for our belated anniversary gift to each other.. It was awesome!! But we got there late and had a wedding the next day so it was a hectic weekend...
I am taking Damon back there tomorrow for for a quiet birthday celebration.. He LOVED that place! So I am excited.. and hope I can get some work done in the house :giggle:

dark crystal, I am just thankful not to have to wear steel toed boots and a hard hat to work anymore. That sort of work got rough on my back and body as I got older, plus the lifestyle was running me ragged. I went to college in the evenings and worked during the days to obtain a Bachelor's in computer science - graduated when I was forty years old. Best thing I ever did for myself. It has made my life a great deal easier, plus more money. And I love my job. That is why I always encourage people who show interest in education.

Maybe thats my problem too.. Its very humid... I have had problems this past 2 weeks with coughing alot.. I went for allergy testing.. they shot me up with all these needles of stuff I am allergic to... lol.. yep I tested positive to most of it... so my arm swells twice its size I have to go on prednisone.. and my system has absorbed all that crap.. lol...
I go Thursday to start allergy shots.. Hope I get better soon.. cause this cough is for the birds....
Sigh.. I want a house wench!!

:gimmehug: Becca ....as a needle-phobic that just sounds helllish to me...poor you!
Be careful with the prednisone too. My mother was on it for years and has some pretty icky lasting repercussions from it. Tricky, because it's kind of a "miracle drug" at making people feel better in the short term...and the negative effects come later. Do some research if you haven't already. I know that keeping the dose as low as possible helps...
Good luck! :) (and ugh...you just reminded me that I was gonna strip beds today and didn't  )

MidnightBlueEyes,
Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time with allergies. I am with JustJo in that I cannot stand needles. I don't pass out or anything - they can stick me all they want but I cannot look at the needle. If it comes to you needing to give yourself shots, how will you be with that? I suppose I could make myself do it to get better.
JustJo, did you get your fair share of the donuts? *grin*
I ate a glazed Krispy Kreme about an hour ago. So good! They are my favorite donut.
Best Wishes to you MidnightBlueEyes and I hope you feel better real soon.

Good Morning Lipstix,
I am going for an Associate's Degree in Nursing, registered nursing is the area that I am looking into. I will be attending the local community college and then I am going to try and persue my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. I will have two of them, one from DeVry and one from the community college. If I feel up to it, I am going to try and get my Master's Degree in Nursing. I feel like DC, I need an education intervention. Once I am done with college, I more than likely will be moving back to Orlando to work. The Lake Nona area is becoming a huge ass medical center with several well known children's hospitals opening...
Have fun today,
Zimmy

Let me tell you a secret ... lean in closely now so I can whisper in your ear and no one else will know about it.
I hid 4 donuts just for you under the cabinet on the far right side in a zip lock bag.
Shhh! Our secret! We have to look after each other.

Good evening everyone :)
Sooooo sorry I'm late....it was an interesting day to say the least!
Dinner tonight is stir-fried chicken breast...with just a little onion, carrot, broccoli, baby bok choy....over basmati rice. Not exotic, but I was going for quick cooking time cuz the kitchen was sweltering.
For dessert....I had to make myself feel a little better today...so it was pistachio and vanilla swirl ice cream (heaven, I'm in heaven....), but I also brought chocolate and strawberry for those that aren't pistachio fans :cheesy:
Good luck on the internship Lips...I'm crossing my fingers that it goes well.
Darkcrystal, I feel your pain. I thought I'd be gone by now and had already given away my window air conditioners. The ceiling fans help, but in the middle of the day it just felt like a hot breeze. Thank goodness it's cooling down now...windows are open...and the fans are starting to kick up a touch of coolness.
Brock! You saved more donuts for Scoote and didn't tell me where???? I am shocked  (okay, not too shocked, but I had to say that for effect)

Yes, Scoot, my mind was going to the scrubs topic you mentioned and all that you said, even more. Did I just say that?? :|
Jo, you won't believe it, but chocolate and strawberry ice cream are my favorites. In the ice cream department right now in my freezer, there is a bucket of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. I get the vanilla for my dog since dogs are not supposed to have chocolate. She loves the strawberry too.
Hmmm, all this ice cream talk, time to go make Kelly and I a couple of bowls. Yes, I am liking this idea ... muchly, in fact. *huge grin*
P.S.
I'm sorry Jo but I thought since you were present, then you were able to get all the donuts you wanted. Scootie, if you have not wolfed all four of those donuts yet, please give one to Jo. I think she got her little feelers hurt.
