Before bed last night, there was little to no snow Saturday. Now it says up to 8 inches during the day and up to another 3 at night. That's plus today's 3 inches.

This is the 4th winter here and the 4th winter in which there was an introductory "I'm baaaaaaack!" storm the first week of January.

I never turn my heat on because I am rarely cold but had to this morning. I know that you mid-west and back east folks probably are warm at 69 but it is all relative, I promise.

The meaning of selfish is in question here.

With my 1-2 feet and your 15 inches, it could be said that I have snow privilege. Thus, it is imperative to enact a redistribution of the plentiful bounty to equal proportions so as to avoid inequity.

After 6 weeks of off and on bits of snow that stays well below freezing in between, I've got about 2 feet on the ground. Now there is some sort of tropical air push coming our way that will warm things up and is expected to cause unspecified trouble. (My guess is under snow flooding and brisk business for roofers)

The weather folks have come up with a new-to-me term to use in forecasting, they are calling for "wintry mix". I gather this means 'some sort of sh*t is going to fall out of the sky, likely to make things worse'.

You are correct; it should make things worse.

From weather.com,

... SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK TODAY AND TONIGHT... A SIGNIFICANT OUTBREAK OF SEVERE WEATHER IS EXPECTED ACROSS WEST- CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA TODAY AND EARLY TONIGHT. SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP LATER TODAY AHEAD OF A SQUALL-LINE THAT WILL MOVE QUICKLY THROUGH THE REGION LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR LARGE HAIL, GUSTY WINDS 60-80 MPH AND TORNADOES, SOME OF WHICH COULD BE STRONG AND LONG-LIVED. RESIDENTS AND VISITORS ARE URGED TO CLOSELY MONITOR THE WEATHER THROUGHOUT THE DAY. PLEASE HEED ANY WARNINGS AND SEEK SHELTER QUICKLY IF WARNINGS ARE ISSUED FOR YOUR AREA. THESE COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS STORMS.

No rain for us thus far, but the wind is howling! The storms are predicted to hit this area in a couple of hours. Hopefully, the winds will not increase and no tornadoes will develop.

Ok, I am over the rain now.

The flash flood warning I got on my phone yesterday, came with a very loud alarm. If I had been driving, it may have startled me in a very bad way.

Yesterday, it literally poured the entire day. We have little rivers, waterfalls where there are usually dry rocks, people had to be rescued from their cars, a little car went floating down the street, the 710 freeway looked like a river, etc.

This is not usual for us in So. CA!

Gov. Brown declares state of emergency after storms cause flooding, erosion, highway damage. (http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-la-rain-monday-20170123-story.html)

After another round of heavy rains soaked parts of California, Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency late Monday for several counties dealing with an estimated tens of million dollars in damage from flooding, erosion, and mud flows.

http://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/90659109513e615b40addc951e9a3610ea5a16b5/c=51-0-3123-4096&r=537&c=0-0-534-712/local/-/media/2017/01/10/USATODAY/USATODAY/636196479700280099-EPA-USA-CALIFORNIA-STORMS.4.jpg
(Photo: Monica M. Davey, European Pressphoto Agency)

The governor’s order cited the destruction to roads and highways from the so-called atmospheric river that has pummeled Southern California, the Central Coast, the San Joaquin Valley and the Bay Area since early January. A second emergency declaration was also issued for a spate of Northern California counties battered by rainstorms.

The emergency order clears the way for requesting federal emergency assistance funds for highway repairs and reconstruction.

The rains that deluged Southern California over the weekend continued Monday, with showers punctuated by bursts of sunshine. Hail was reported in Burbank and snow was anticipated in the Antelope Valley.

"Posted 29 minutes ago
THE Flash Flood Warning REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 900 PM PST FOR ORANGE...SAN BERNARDINO AND RIVERSIDE COUNTIES... At 627 PM PST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned area which will produce flash flooding. Most locations have received an inch of rain with some locales to around 2 inches. Additional rain amounts of a quarter to half an inch per hour will result in flash flooding. In addition, excessive rainfall will likely result in debris flows within and downstream of the 2016 Blue Cut Fire burn scar, including railways. The debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.

Some locations that will likely experience flooding include... Anaheim, Santa Ana, Riverside, Irvine, San Bernardino, Fontana, Huntington Beach, Garden Grove, Ontario, Corona, Orange, Fullerton, Costa Mesa, Rialto, Mission Viejo, I-15 Through The Cajon Pass, and areas in and around the Blue Cut Fire burn scar".

My co-worker texted me tonight stating she barely made it home from work as it was raining so hard, the streets were flooded.

This is all so unusual for us. It is El Niño on steroids this year.

It should kick in around 5am here and will continue through the day and night. Reports are also fluctuating as to how many inches we're going to get. I usually aim for the average and am right most of the time, so it looks like we're in for 11 inches of snow which will be heavy and then the rain will kick in and then it will be REALLY heavy and slushy and icy and very, very slippery.

I will likely pop in the office for an hour or two in the morning and then call it a day. They are saying it'll be 2 or 3 inches per hour at some points. That's insane. Governor came just shy of calling a travel ban, but is closing all government offices for the day.

As long as I don't lose power and/or have downed lines, I will be fine with whatever comes.

I would say I got (haven't looked at news) 4 inches of icy snow. It is just slush at this point. I also didn't get up until 12pm (went back to bed after I learned we were closed), so it is possible it was icy on the roads this morning.

All I know is I was annoyed that they closed my work today because that means I have to use a vacation day.

At least all my clients at my evening practice still want to come, so that is good. I may have to use some unpaid days for something in the future, so any money I can make on the side helps.

It rained all night and day and then snowed a little to alleviate the boredom and then rained some more. Tomorrow's supposed to be dry and 50 degrees.

68 degrees and raining in central Texas.

The town near me flooded today and tonight the village near me may flood. Getting home was tricky.

My ranch looks okay no flooding at my place.

We've had nothing but gorgeous days in my neck of the woods. Spring is in the air.

Rained enough to wet the ground good, but not enough to wash the pollen off my car
Good thing I was up early and cut the grass and yard work before the rain
It's nice and cool out so I am enjoying the porch swing

We had a bit of hazy sunshine, earlier.
Now it's chilly, very cloudy, and lots of rain.

Nothing but birdsong, not a cloud drifting by in the sky, no wind, no rain. But it's only for today. After today, we return to the same lovely pearly skies, except it will bring round after round of stormy type of weather. Definitely hot cocoa weather....

Today's high will top out near 70*. :cheer:

Lows and highs after today: low 50s, low 40s. :( :( :(

We are having severe thunderstorms. The thunder is loud and frequent along with some serious lightening. There's a flood warning. Good day to stay inside and watch Netflix or play on the Planet.

This past month I've been hanging-out on the beach nearly everyday, and used much less fuel for heat.:)
