Fall is officially here and we are still in the 90's. ACK! We did get a little rain yesterday accompanied by a few thunder-boomers and a brilliant ( albeit short lived) light show! It was quite welcome, as we have had little to no rain in the past month.

The trees are changing earlier than usual, with many already dropping their leaves. We will be making a weekend drive along the Blue Ridge parkway soon. If we can't encourage the teen age boy to go visit nature with us, then perhaps we'll pack a lunch and a blankey and picnic somewhere near Lover's Leap!

It's hard to get into the "gather nuts for Winter" mindset, when it's still so hot out. Alas, it still has to be done, so I have been making my winterizing list and have begun checking junk off.

Yesterday, nature presented Organic and me with a lovely show. Gales of wind and rain twirled and looped in a lovely dance. The sky opened up on us just as we were pulling into the parking lot and we got dusted pretty good on our way in and on the stairwell (which is open on one side). The gusts were pretty wild and, once we got our stuff inside, we both came back outside to watch it. It was absolutely beautiful and gave me one more reason to appreicate moving back to the South.

Today, skies are blue and full of cumulus clouds, though I suspect we'll get another shower before the day is over. I have no idea what the temperature is as I haven't left the apartment yet.

This week is looking a lot like Winter is already here. Our Spring this year was pretty non-existent.. went straight to 80's and 90's almost overnight and I think Winter is going to do the same thing. GRRRRR!

Will be spending the next couple of weeks doing vigorous nut gathering, wood stacking, gap filling, etc. to be as ready for our second Winter here in the foothills. Last year we saw more snow than I had seen in prolly 20 or so years and they are forecasting this year to be as bad if not worse! GULP!

More weird weather in the Atlanta area. Very cold and dreary yesterday and I thought it looked like snow. Barely made it into the 40s. Last night the temp went up instead of down; at 6 am it was 55 degrees and will rise to the mid 60s with severe thunderstorms and possiblity of tornados. Warnings are already out on the western side of the state. Tomorrow very cold and sunny. Praying for Spring to get here!!!

The National Weather service is on site now and declared it was a class F2 tornado that hit the neighborhood in Buford, Ga. One man was killed when a tree fell on his car. There was a tornado watch but no warning. 56 houses were severly damage and was house was totally destroyed!

It went down to 19 degrees last night with a howling wind gusting up to 35 mph. I hardly slept at all from the sound of it. I posted snow pics in my gallery. I promised myself that if it snowed like last year I'd buy a snow blower. Last year I got stuck twice and couldnt get out my drive. My driveway is a few hundred feet.

Our local weather people are predicting power outages due to the ice accumulation/weight on the lines.

One of my dogs, Kelly, is making me nuts ... begging to go for a walk. She is insistent and will not give up. It will be a 30 minute walk or less.

We live in South Texas and had part of that storm come through last night that you are all experiencing today. We had high winds, some hail, and lots of rain. Just north of here, the wind took down power lines, trees and shredded some mobile homes. Its passed on through now, and we are back into the low 60s. I'm such a wimp after living here for almost 4 years that I now feel like 60s is cold and I hear myself whining about how chilled I am.

Atlanta is shut down how much snow did you get, we are suppose to get that storm on Tuesday with about 6 inches of snow on the ground, we already have snow from Friday and now more is coming this way I'm so tired of it, its ridiculous already..Between 4 and 10 inches. But covered between 1/2 inch or more of solid ice. It won't get above freezing until tomorrow but only for a few hours and then it won't get above 32 till Friday. So this ice won't be melting anytime soon. We do have snow plows but not that many because this amount of snow and ice is not normal for this area. They have begun closing the freeways now. Bridges and overpasses are deadly! It is bad! Airport cancelled all flights!

We got 30cm (12 inches) of snow over the weekend. Crazy streets everywhere, with a good showing of ice under the new snow. It is -27C (-16F) here with a snappy wind chill. I did not go anywhere this weekend, but I was able to get out of the alley and to work this morning. It must be nice to not have to worry about work for a few days! We should've went and sleded down the big hill on Reservoir Road today! That used to be the best place to sled when I lived in that area years ago. Instead, I shoveled my very sloped driveway all afternoon! I understand your frustration. I'm grateful I'm not in an area that can get this kind of weather any more.

However, truckers are paid by the load and if they've agreed to take the load, they have to bring it in. They know it's dangerous but it's their livelihood. I have a bit of a soft spot for truckers, as you may guess. :blink:

Right? In WA, the worst part was the snow. The snow I liked. The black ice under and sometimes on top of the snow was NOT fun, for certain. BUT...the worst thing was when the stuff melted. If it happend too quickly, it flooded and people who never had a problem with rats and other rodents suddenly did. Like my hotel. A rat got trapped in a vent and died. It took us DAYS to find it. In the meantime, not many people went into the men's bathroom in the lobby.

On the news this morning; 49 out of 50 states in the US have snow on the ground. I guessed Hawaii was the only place it was not snowing and I was wrong. The map showed that snow is less than 50 miles from the border to Florida though.

Atlanta is still bogged down in ice and jack knifed 18 wheelers and in some areas the interstates are closed. Georgia is dead in her tracts for the fourth day.
