Rain, for the 4th straight day. Last night it went down to 37 here. Surrounding areas reported snow flurries. CRAZY! I was worried about the remainder of my garden. I picked the remaining above ground stuff thursday and friday. And covered the in ground stuff. Back to the low 70's by tuesday. Good. We'll have a fall.

Been about the same here in Indy. Windy, rainy, nippy. Took the plants in off the deck. The raccoons and squirrels are getting fatter earlier, so it looks like another early and long winter.

We have had pearly grey skies, various forms of rain and the Cascades (here in Oregon) have been getting early season snows.

right now, it's pretty chilly outside at 52 degrees:

High: maybe, 62?

Low: possibly 52?

All I know is that it feels very cold to me, outside on my patio deck.

It was chilly last night when I finally dozed off to sleep and I rose this morning to see the beautiful sunshine and a Chinook Wind. If memory serves me well this morning, I don't believe we have ever had a Chinook Wind occuring in the Fall - ordinarily, CW's occur in late winter and bring about an early spring. But I could have this all wrong.

Right now, it feels like it's about 59 degrees outside and because the internet is experiencing technical difficulties, my weather page is inaccessible. We might reach upper 60s, lower 70s today with the current Chinook Wind conditions (my best guess for right now).

The weather inspired me to listen to:

Henri Mancini's - Lujon

Thanks for the beautiful video. We don't usually get CW in the fall either. Odd. Where I live I am a bit far north of the mountains to experience many as the southern province, but they are lovely when they come. And very welcomed.

Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, November 13, 2011.

The Central US will see a warming trend, while the West remains rainy and snowy on Sunday. A low pressure system off the coast of southern California will advance onshore, moving over the Southwest and into northwestern Mexico. Counter-clockwise flow around this system will continue pulling ample moisture onshore, allowing for rain and high elevation snow showers to persist across the Southwest. Meanwhile to the north, a trough of low pressure over the Northern Rocky Mountains will extend southward into the Central Rockies. This will bring heavy snow showers to Utah and Colorado, while snowfall will decrease across Idaho and Montana. Winter weather advisories have been issued across the Central Rockies, as 3 to 7 inches of snow are expected, with up to a foot at highest elevations. Blizzard warnings are in effect for Colorado due to wind gusts ranging between 50 and 60 mph, causing blowing snow and low visibility. Please take caution while traveling over high mountain passes. Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming will see another 2 to 4 inches of snowfall on Sunday. Meanwhile in the Northwest, another trough of low pressure will approach Washington and Oregon. This is expected to bring more rain showers and high elevation snow to the Cascades.

In the Plains, a trough advances over the Northern Plains and into the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes, triggering widespread scattered rain showers. Flow ahead of this system will push warm air in from the South, allowing for high temperatures to range 10 to 15 degrees above seasonable. However, the back side of this system will pull cool air in from Canada, allowing for rain showers to turn to snow showers across the Dakotas and northern Minnesota.

And what is so "amazing" about rain? I came to Houston for the sun. Last night the thunderstorms were so strong, I thought we would be blown into the ocean. The motorhome only has a few leaks when it pours hard like last night. The bathroom vent and the window above my computer desk. I had to get up in the middle of the night to unplug the computer, move it and put a towel down on the desk. And today, the rain brought out the mosquitoes in hordes. Even my poor doggie had to cut his poop short.

You can keep your "amazing" rain! pffft! :winky:

http://blog.chicagoweathercenter.com/2012/01/another-50-degree-day-and-then-some-shovel-worthy-snow.html

"But winter is expected to return with a vengeance Wednesday night as Arctic air powers into the area. On Thursday, the cold air will be accompanied by strong northwest winds, bitter wind chill temperatures and, potentially, several of snow. Though not especially horrible by January standards, it will be an abrupt reality check."

First of week's two arctic blasts to produce snowy Tuesday afternoon, tumbling temperatures; 1-2 inch accumulations possible

January 16, 2012 10:43 PM
by Meteorologist Tom Skilling

Tuesday's comparatively mild open gives way to powerful northwest winds which will send Chicago area temperatures plunging into the 20s by nightfall, the first of two cold blasts predicted this week. The second and strongest of the week's cold surges takes hold Thursday, when daytime temperatures are to hold in the teens for the first time this winter.
Tuesday's wind-driven temperature pullback supplants Monday's brief, snow-melting temperature surge to 45-degrees--the area's mildest reading in 5 days.
Monday's "warm-up" took a big bite out of the area's heaviest winter snowpack to date, reducing the depth of the snow on the ground from 6 inches last Thursday to just an inch Monday morning. The melt-off continued Monday as rain fell across the city and by evening less than an inch of snow remained.

In Mobile AL it is 70 degrees with a dreary day in my future. The most interesting thing is the forecast for next Monday, it will be 81 with a heat index of 91. Where is Winter? I just want to know.

Apparently the US postal service sent it to wrong address AGAIN. Would you like it express delivery or just regular?? :canadian:

I scrapped ice off the car windows here in the SF Bay Area this morning. In the East Bay as I write this it is 38 degrees F. It is winter here.

It has been about 20 here for the past two days, a couple of inches of snow. Forecast is 2-4 inches tonight and 6-10 tomorrow......we shall see.... the expected winds, I do not like.

So, I woke up to another beautiful deceptively sunny day. It was -38C which is -36.4F (I was thinking of my southern compadres). The windchill...wait for it... -48 which in F is oddly -54.4. The back window defroster could not make the glass warm enough to surrender its frost.

But, I know this is gonna sound like a kooky canuk... but I don't mind the cold like this. Well, until the wind comes up.

I even bought a new toque, unfortunately I have a child size head, so it is big... but it is colorful and has ear flaps.... I like this latest fashion trend. When I used to wear a hat with ear flaps, suffice to say it did not go over very well. Looks like city folk are finally catching up with farmers. Who knew??

More snow here!

Last night before I went to bed,
the pine trees outside were covered heavily in snow.

I was worried that any one of them could topple over last night...

They're still covered this morning but I think it's warming up slowly...
the trees aren't so heavily covered this morning.

My brother called me early this morning and they got about 2 ft of snow where they live in S. Idaho, overnight, and it's still a major storm there.

Right now it's: 36 degrees outside.

Yep... You guessed it... Snow, snow, and more snow. Three days without school for kids. Thinking my weekend plans (was going on a spiritual retreat!) just may be canceled. Boo hoo. Snow sure is pretty, though. And in a way, just going outside and looking at the white trees is darn spiritual.

Thankful for soft and warm fuzzy pj's and blankets! It's 2 degrees F right now in Minneapolis. It was -5 degrees earlier with a windchill factor -10 - -20 degrees F!!!

We just have a dusting of snow on the ground in Minneapolis.

It's been such a bizarre "winter" thus far. The cold is usual for us in this region, but not yet this year, so it's crazy!

It has been such a mild winter here. I am not complaining but I do love the white stuff;in manageable quantities of course.
Snowfall will begin after dark, and could get heavy overnight. Parts of Cape Cod and the South Coast could exceed 6" of snow. Flurries could last into Sunday.
