Still too damned hot here!
It's not so much the daytime temperatures, which, whilst warm, are tolerable even by my standards (up to the mid 20's Celsius now, down from nearly 30 for a while) , it's the night temperatures, which have been in the mid-high teens for a while now. At the weekend, I was thinking about going to the gym this morning, but I've woken up feeling too poorly rested to make this a sensible thing to do.
How I miss the "three warm sunny days in a row"* summers that we used to get so often!
* Our summers were seldom THAT bad, but it was a bit of a running joke with us Brits.

Well...
On coming home after running a few errands yesterday afternoon, I had noticed that it had gotten a little too warm in the apartment (must have been over 75, perhaps even 80), and turned on the Dyson (which I only use for about a month during the summer time, and have had for a couple of years); I really like this machine. It has a small remote to change the speed, and also rotate the Dyson - Dyson's a genius, works much better than a fan, and actually generates cool air, and I love the donut shape. Of course, nights are cool and wonderful to sleep in without a fan; so, really, I have little to complain about.
My heart goes out to all those who are suffering from the heat in sweltering +90 weather in the States (please do take care, and hydrate appropriately); especially to all those in Japan who have record heat waves of around 105+...
For myself, considering being a senior and during the summer, I drink quite a bit of carbonated water, which I make myself using my SodaStream, flavoured with Pink Grapefruit :)
Global warming is getting to dangerous levels... and will most likely worsen in time.
And, I guess that (maybe) nixes my plan to move to Ontario... which is also beginning to show intemperate climate change... oh well...

Yesterday it was reported by the airport that it was 101*, but it was hotter, I think. Today, it was in the upper 90s. Humidity index is up, and the smoke from the forest fires over in Idaho have been infiltrating our area because it has no where to go other than down the Columbia gorge. We have had orange skies, all day.... and lots of smoke.
Hopefully by Thursday and Friday, maybe an big storm will roll in from the ocean and cool things off (highs near the 70s, lows near mid 50s).

With temps down in the 20's here in Eastern Washington we've only gotten about 2" of snow so far but people are saying 1-6 more by mid day tomorrow. So far I'm not seeing any signs of that, but better safe than sorry. There is a winter storm warning advisory in effect until around 10 tomorrow morning. My oldest stopped by yesterday with some easy convenience foods and today J and I made a run to the corner store today to pick up a few things. Since it was before the after work crowd rush, the snow starting to fall, no long lines or people elbowing each other out of the way to grab stuff. I try to keep enough staples on hand that I don't need to make a store run when bad weather is predicted. A trip to a corner grocery for a few fresh/luxury items to make the canned/shelf stable stuff a little less boring, work to prepare is nice but optional. I like looking outside and knowing if it's bad I don't have to go out in the cold. :cold:

Here's the thing: you can walk on snow but walking/driving on ice can be deadly; if you are older and you break a hip on the ice, it's pretty much the end of your life as you know it.
Temps well below zero are fine...just dress for it.
Temps around Zero are treacherous if the temperature is fluctuating around that mark.

We are having really strange weather for way Northern NY near Canada. Rain...I can't believe it...temps to the 40s during the day then, of course, the rain freezes to ice. These people can drive through 2-3 feet of snow, but cannot do ice...not even on foot.
Anyway, where the hell did this warm front come from. It's Winter for crying out loud. It's going to melt the annual Winter Carnival Ice Palace. In fact, volunteers are making slush patches for it, and putting insulated covers on parts trying to prevent it from becoming a huge puddle.
Ice storms are what I'm used to. Grew up with gorgeous ice storms and icicles. Deep snow drifts are not really walkable at my height.

These numbers are based on readings out by the airport, about an hour ago, so might be a minor degree differences one way or the other. I'd say despite shut downs it must only be bad on the outskirts. Crews seem to be doing a pretty good job of clearing the roads in town. My youngest works in town so he's okay. I'm concerned about him though because he's so intent on getting a raise/promotion I can just see him canoeing in hell across a lake of fire to get the job done for the benefit of his lord and master – Harbor Freight. Wow just past eleven o'clock and it's still snowing. For a little while I thought it was going to either stop or turn into rain as predicted because the flakes had gotten very, very tiny, but not so far. In fact it's coming down even heavier than when it started, and it was falling pretty heavy then. The snowflakes are huge. Across the way two robins hopped up. I watched them out my picture window. They just hung out on the ground. I figured it must not be bothering them too much or they'd be on the neighbor's patio where it's covered or at least underneath one of the windows beneath an awning but no they just hung out, hopped around out there exposed for the longest while. I had to leave the window for a bit and when I went back they were gone so I'm assuming they're fine or at least it makes me feel better to think so. Usually here if snow surprises us it's because it comes early, around Halloween. This year though it's like a white Christmas but in the springtime. Shows just how much that groundhog is to be trusted - trickster.
P.S. Oh wow they're back and this time they've got a friend with them, and one of them was flying so they must be pretty happy there, cooling their jets, hanging out and just chilling.

weather was definitely of the 4 seasons type yesterday: skiff of snow, sleet, dense rain, lots of gusty wind, sunshine, thunderstorm activity (lightening strikes) and rainbows. Cherry blossoms will be abundant by next week.

High today: upper 40s?

For me it's a toss up between Spring and Fall. When it's Fall I think this is nice but I really miss Spring. When it's Spring I really miss Fall. Of course that's here were there are four distinct seasons even if there aren't the same extreme temperature fluctuations seen elsewhere in the nation. Our area is considered low desert so the changes are less dramatic.
Anyhow I was just wondering about all this flooding in the Midwest? What the real scoop is. It seems news stations either blow things up or under report which makes it difficult to know what's truly going on. After Katrina as bad as they made it look on the news, people in the area were telling me about all sorts of crimes the media never reported or only barely touched on.
On the other hand there have been many false alarm instances of people on the air making it seem as if the sky is falling when it wasn't. When the news was all wake up America because Armageddon is here, but when you talked with people not affiliated with any news network, just local residents in the affected area/areas they say oh no that's just media hype. Temps not that high, winds not that bad and so on.

We have had a slightly mild summer, with sporadic bouts of rain and lots of cloudy skies and cooler than ordinary temps. Just this past week, we've been in the upper 70s, which is leading to a stretch of upper 80's, then for a few weeks we might get stuck in the upper 90s.
Fall is nearly here, though. Trees are already losing leaves and revealing their autumn colors -- which usually happens in late September, but it's only the last week of July.
I suspect we will endure a heat wave of sorts, and I'm not looking forward to that, but I hope milder temps return soon. I miss the cloudy skies.

Perfect almost Fall weather today. Warm and sunshiny this morning/afternoon but not too hot. Cool and clear enough to enjoy the star filled sky tonight without it being cold enough to force a sane person to bundle up. A gentle kiss of sun and a bit of a nip in the air - perfect. I put some mandarin orange peel, clove powder, cinnamon in a pan and left it to simmer like we used to before chemical, artificial sprays and plugins became the readily available air fresheners of choice they are today. I do wish I'd have had one of those pumpkin spice/Autumn pillar candles we used to buy for ourselves as a treat at Macy's, though I'm pretty sure there must have been artificial perfume essence of some sort in them, but they smelled so good. Like pumpkin pies pulled straight from the oven and left to cool. Shoot now I've made myself hungry in a home with very limited food option choices owing to moving. I managed to get my car into the garage just as hail started to drop. Phew!!
Sorry to hear about your wicked weather. Didn't some folks out your way really have serious damage and injuries?
I feel for you having multiple tornados dropping down in a day. I've seen that having been raised in Central Indiana, and it can be really scary.
Very odd weather for this time of year, though. I'm used to seeing cute Fall dust devils, not destruction.
Good thoughts sent to those dealing with dangerous weather (tornados, wildfires, floods, overwhelming amounts of snow and of course those still trying to recover from hurricane damage).
We will soon start getting our quota of winter weather.
Yup! There was some very serious damage to homes and businesses farther north of me.. I don't hear about injuries but it's logical to think there we some. Fortunately, there were no deaths... last I heard. I totally lucked out as one tornado was headed our way and then slid NE and ran through an area where I used to live.
Yup too... those who've lived in Texas longer than I say weather swings we're experiencing in October is unusual.

Been warmish here for the last three days, the north 2/3 of CA has been learning the new rules of the road e.g. power shut downs. I am lucky in the south where we are just now showing some small intentional outages (very small 100-500 affected each) the nearest one to me is still 20 miles east.
I noticed last night that the steady cool onshore breeze had reversed and now breeze from the east that was warmer. This morning all was cooled down but I noticed that the humidity normally 40-50% was at 18%. I've only lived here 5 months so "normally" is just this summer. I guess this is my first Santa Ana wind season, we'll see if I guessed right on location.

Rainy for the past 2 days (uck!), though we have wonderful temperatures 50s in the daytime with frosty 20s at night.
They have had a foot of snow before Samhain. Maybe we'll be so blessed this year.
It was 40 degrees this morning. Burr!
I am glad that I threw an extra blanket on the bed last night.
:cold:
Most of Ca is either on fire or power out trying to avoid it.
I seem to be in a lucky spot*, temps down to 73, 60 at night, humidity back up to 45%, no preventative power shut downs anywhere near.
*Two years of researching to make sure I would be "lucky" regarding fires and sea level issues seems to be paying off. As always though, anything can happen..

79 but feels like 85.
I cant wait go get the hell outta here. I cant stand this type of weather.
The wind has been blowing backward again today, I’m finding this surprisingly disorienting. Santa Ana again. Seems to be riling up the coyotes too, yappy bunch tonight.
No fires down my way, good that the temps and especially humidity are holding well, winds not as fierce as further north.
A lot of folks having a bad month, my thoughts are with them.. :firetruck:

Up here in Canada it is 25F. Snow for two days now and still coming down. If this keeps up we wont need to build an arc but we can build one hell of an igloo.

When I left home today it was 68 degrees. When I got to the freeway it was 70 degrees. Now at work it is 52 degrees. A cold front came through during my commute. Like they say if you don't like the weather in Texas just wait a minute.

It's comfortable enough being in the high 40's, but unfortunately we're having a wind storm both here in the Olympic Peninsula as well as in Seattle!
There is talk of cancelling the fireworks off the Space Needle tonight but it has yet to be determined!

For the past several days, or so, it has been raining sheets and sheets of rain; and it's terribly cold. By Monday night, we will supposedly get hit with snow, lots of snow. Snow generally paralyzes the metro area as we generally don't get much snow, to speak of. But I've got the studded tires on the car and have several alternative routes to drive to work. It might take a while to get anywhere, but safety first is of major importance.
Lows tonight: somewhere near 37.
Highs over the weekend: somewhere near the mid to upper 30s.
By Monday and Tuesday it will drop to the upper 20s, low 30s.

It's been gray and rainy here since the year began! Sat and Sun temps are forecasted for the mid 40's at least.
I've always considered Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)a lot of bunk, but now I'm not so sure!
Yesterday it was 75 degrees and this morning it is in the 40's. We had a storm come through last night a head of a cold front. Texas weather is always interesting.

Bad, bad storms around here, but luckily not over my house. High of 68 today, so at least it's not cold.
BTW, in my experience, SAD is very, very real. It seems to have a lot to do with the light, not just temperature and weather.

I think you're correct Georgia. I'm not all that interested to google, but I think it's related to the lost of maybe sunlight?

We've got a temp of 32 with a bit of snow!
It's so pretty looking out at it covering the bushes and such! I'm not sure how much we got, but not as much as Poulsbo which got 9 inches or Bainbridge which got 6!

This past weekend was incredibly nice with record highs of mid-60s for both days. Now, we're back to temps closer to seasonal averages. It's about 39 degrees right now. No snow expected until this coming weekend. It's been a super weird winter so far.

Well, traipsing about yesterday, I mentioned how cold it was, and how it felt like snow, and some of the responses were: the old biddy said: "Don't jinx it!" :(, and a very lively woman who said: "Shiver me timbers!" while grinning :)
So, this morning, I just pushed back the drapes and peeked outside, and what do you know?! SNOW
Good grief, and I don't even own a pair of boots.
It's cold, temp will vary between 25 and 32 today. Blech!
Well, I have a toothache, and a visit to the dentist is in order, and not going far - so it will be the little shop, that just opened up next door, that has a small sandwich board with just one tooth displayed on it and no words...

The forecast was for no snow today. It didn't look like that was going to be the case today last night, but I thought well you know maybe the weather forecasters are right and for them tomorrow will be all about third time's a charm. Nope, it's falling again! I over slept, didn't hear my cell or the landline so J came over and beat on my door to make sure I was alive. After seeing me in ratty sweatpants, with bed head, rubbing sleep out of my eyes and looking like death warmed over twice, pronounced me alive. Well sort of, for what it's worth. Then promptly split. Once again the snow began here only after she was long gone and it didn't start up there until reaching home she pulled into the garage. It's like we have this down pat, we both want snow but not if we have to be out in it. Only as long as we're both at home, safely indoors all bundled up warm and cozy and that's exactly what's happened for the past three days in a row now. I'm going to make cocoa to celebrate. It's no sugar added Swiss Miss instant but if you use a little more mix than the instructions call for and substitute ½ and ½ for part of the water oh it is so good.

Up here in Toronto we have had snow all day with a lot of high winds. We are suppose to get snow till tomorrow afternoon up to about 6 inches total but blowing will make some spots deeper. Where I am from in Eastern Canada they have over a foot now and the blowing has piled snow up to their windows and over fences.

We've finally gotten some snow as well. The plows are going now. Snow's okay, but it's going to rain afterwards and freeze and that will be a mucky sucky frosty mess when it's all said and done.

Here in NY North Country, they can't seem to decide whether to bitch about too little snow or too much (6 inches), too warm 36F or too cold 5-10F.
Geez, in the Mid-West, a winter storm is 3 ft snow then -30F (not wind chill). Up here they talk about wind chill with their 1-5mph breeze.
My Dad grew up, with most of his folks still there, in Sioux Falls SD. They have real weather, with real snow, and really cold temperatures.:|
