I don't know where to start.

I love action movies.

I did not love this one. I did not even finish watching it.

It was boring and overdone.

They should have stopped at 7.

I missed Paul Walker's presence, too.

This trailer is pretty accurate as to the movie's flaws.

Boss Baby

Alec Baldwin as a baby in charge? Too cute and pretty funny.

The Belko Experiment
AJ0x3OS4ML0

This movie is freaking mental in the worst way and is not out of the scope of reality. People do awful things to other people.

Ghost in the Shell

Sure, there's minimum backstory and depth but the visuals are amazing. It's kind of a coming of age movie, in a sense.

Last night, I watched..... August Rush (2007).

It's a story about an undiscovered child music prodigy who was orphaned shortly after he was born.... and how his birth parents find him nearly 12 or 13 years later, as his conducts the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, playing his first magnum opus orchestral arrangement, during his debut appearance .....I thought it was a wonderful movie. :balloon:

This isn't the movie trailer, but it's a movie clip which shows his birth dad and August dueling on guitars (where he tells his birth dad that he'd only played the guitar for only six months...)

I literally watched this movie this morning! The movie was filmed in my hometown metro area of Portland. It stars Nia,Long (as, Suzanne, she's a divorceé) and ex-rap artist Ice Cube (as, Nick, who's struck dumb by "love at first sight").

The interesting part about the movie is that movie critics gave this movie an 11 percent rating, but Google rated it 99 percent because viewers overwhelming thought the movie was straight hilarious and kinda true about certain things true about several things going on in the film (kids being proverbial monsters, our local international airport, and things that go on for folks in the dating scene --- for example, Suzanne's kids think no man is good enough to date their mom...and they terrorize Nick!).

I thought it was fairly hilarious!!! *LOL*

BUT ....you'll have to see for yourself if you think it's hilarious or not.

I watched Shutter Island last night. I had seen it before many years ago but it was just as good again. The cinematography is so 'film noir' and the twist is great. It didn't hurt that we had really beautiful storms going on all the while I was watching it. Martin Scorsese never lets you down.

The Accountant.

What a killer movie. Talk about blood and guts savage movies, I thought this movie was superbly well done.

Ben Affleck stars as the youngest of two sons, he's smart as heck but he was born with autism/asberger's. His dad pushes him to limits so he knows his son will always be able to take care of himself. I won't say anything more, but this movie was one of the best I've seen in quite some time.

I watched a somewhat odd but enjoyable movie last night on Netflix called Waffle Street....

stars: James Lafferty, Danny Glover, Julie Gonzalo

Waffle Street is an adaptation of James Adams' 2010 memoir of the same name. After being laid off at the hedge fund where he worked, and further jaded by his culpability in the crisis, Adams chose to work at a popular 24-hour diner. Offering a fresh take on the fallout of corporate greed, Adams' is a tale of the redemption and unlikely friendship found under the tutelage of Glover's character Edward, the best grill man in town.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, also known as Jamie Lannister in GOT, in a totally different role that starts with him as a stockbroker Everyman out for a night with his wife and another couple.

It winds up with him somewhere that he never would have dreamed in his former life.

His acting is outstanding and the movie is sobering. It is violent but goes with the territory.

I've particularly noticed that to be the case at queer film festivals, so much so that I can't help but wonder if it isn't some weird way of forcing us to mingle. Maybe it's a social experiment. Shove 'em all together in an annoying shared experience, build solidarity based on a tenuous connection of common ire.

I spent the evening in the company of my BFF and we went to see The Kingsmen: The Secret Service at the theater! OMG, such a great movie! We got our tickets at 1700 hrs, got our popcorn and candy and drinks, then settled in to watch the movie....there was like about an half hour of movie trailer previews for upcoming movie attractions, then the movie was about 2 hours? We didn't know we'd sat there that long, but the movie was fantastic! Even the score of music was so awesome. I won't give too many details, but the interesting theme centered around John Denver songs (LOL) and even Elton John was in an cameo role. It's an action thriller movie in an similar vein as an James Bond type movie or even Austin Powers or even with a twist of Bridget Jones Diary, type of thing.

I thought it was a fantastic movie!

I'm obsessed with it now, lol! :)

More sequels.........OMG can't Hollywood come up with some original ideas?

When I worked at the video store I had several customers who were writers and submitted their scripts to Hollywood! These people must get so disgusted when they get rejected only to witness some sequel such as Taken 45 or Fast and Furious 601

I don't usually spend a lot of time watching movies but we watched so many over this long weekend- it was a dig up golden oldies movies weekend. Friday night was Real Genius at home on video. Saturday was family matinee at a little theater in my city that plays old movies and the Saturday Matinee is always 25 cent admission. They were playing Beetleguise. We took some friends kids with us to give our friends an afternoon free and we all had fun. Then that night we watched Serendipity, and then yesterday was a local fundraiser showing Lost Boys on a big screen. Lots of good viewing!

I'm really not one for movies in general but I did go see "Loving Vincent" last weekend. I really enjoyed it as the entire film was "animated in oil paintings". Instead of using computer generated graphics they took two years to hand paint each scene so it flowed as an endless "who done it" movie. The description is;

"In a story depicted in oil painted animation, a young man comes to the last hometown of painter Vincent van Gogh to deliver the troubled artist's final letter and ends up investigating his final days there."

Unable to post a video link here but several are on YouTube should you wish to view them.

It is a look into that little bit of a dark soul that I possess.

I don't care for romantic movies, am not much for animation (though I love that you do Gemme) and for drama, I prefer British films.

That said (in my defense) I love offbeat, kind of crazy but very clever, well-written and humorous films. Must be a very good action or horror film.

I do not like the routine slasher films at all and will never see one. Women are always the victims and it is too much like real life for me.

Mayhem is not a zombie movie. The employees at this firm do become infected with a virus that causes them to give full rein to all of their id impulses.

It lasts 8-hours until the antidote kicks in.

Thor - had more humorous elements like they took a page from Guardians script. I mean, devil’s anus, seriously. I’d love to see the outtake reel from that scene.

Justice League - some really lovely cinematography, but too many disconnected pieces and lack of development to make it wholly entertaining. Thank goodness this one was free or I’d feel as though I’d wasted money.

OMG this movie. OMG!

It’s different and amazing! i am a huge lover of all things Van Gogh....What a labor of love this must have been to create! .

"Loving Vincent.”........

The story is well known - a matter of history. Vincent painted the portrait of Joseph Roulin, Postmaster of Arles. The film tells us the story of Vincent's life and last months before his death on 29 July, 1890 (aged 37) from a self-inflicted gun-shot wound, via the device of the postmaster's son being sent on a mission to deliver a letter from Vincent to his brother, which has been returned.

Technically the film "Loving Vincent" is a wonder of animation. One hundred artists in two countries, (Poland and Greece) working in Vincent's own style contributed full colour paintings for "the present" and black and white paintings for "the past" as the story is being told by the people who knew Vincent.

The film is made up of 853 'shots', and each one began with a first frame of a full painting on canvas board. As the animation photography was done in 12 frames per second, the first painting, would then be photographed, then painted over, with each gradual change to certain details or all of it, until the last frame of the shot. (This is in place of the use of animation cels, which could not be applied in this style of work.) At the end of the 'shot' the film-makers were left with an oil-painting on canvas board, of the last frame. So at the end of filming 853 paintings remained, and 200 are being auctioned off, and many have already sold, (as can be seen from the films own website) although at the time of writing the film has not yet premiered in the USA. The size of the works was usually 67cm by 49cm. Bear in mind that for one hour of film, 43,200 paintings were required, and you will begin to see the extraordinary ambition of this project. Additionally 90 design paintings were created in the planning stages during the year before shooting started. The purpose of these was to define the style in which the artists would all re-create Vincent's style of painting and make it move, live and breathe. 65,000 painted frames in oils were made for the whole film. The story moves along briskly and is full of wonderful characters (the people in Vincent's life). The dialogue of the characters is full of expression, as are the faces, and the characters have been created to really "live" for us. This was done by casting well known and excellent actors in the main roles, and filming them in live-action, then using those 'normal' cinematic images for a basis of the key paintings for each 'shot'. As the film went on, I recognized (from other films) certain of the painted faces of the real actors, who are also giving voice to the painted characters on the soundtrack. This type of animation has never been done before, and as it took seven years to make the film, it might never be done again. The ingenious planning of how to actually do it is brilliant and has been a great success.

An 11 year-old girl searches for a missing rare book from her grandmother's (Holland Taylor) library and tries to understand why her family is fractured the way it is while her mother (Kelly Lynch), like astronaut Michael Collins, goes to the dark side of the moon for a leukemia treatment. Ella's father, (Sean Patrick Flanery) orbits his daughter, as Ella befriends Miguel and Rosie to find acceptance of her mother's fate. Emotional connections are reshaped, and the music of Patrick Neil Doyle helps tell this unusual story.

This synopsis does not do the movie justice! I really enjoyed it!

Maybe a tad too long as well, but battle scenes are very good.
Maybe at two and a half hours long it's too much for kids, think they would get bored in a cinema so wait until it comes out on dvd, at least then if they get bored or need a break you can stop it and resume later.

Though it was about 2.5 hours, it didn't feel too long. The fight scenes were cool and there was more humor than I remembered but there were several scenes that I was like, "doh!" towards different characters. I went with a friend to see this yesterday. I could not help but see the parallels between what is going on with our government today and what happened during the Nixon administration (as well as prior administrations).

For the most part, when the Pentagon Papers were published and people found out that the government had lied about Viet Nam for 30-years; people were outraged at the lies that had been told.

Today, lies and liars, eh, business as usual.

Then, burglars broke into DNC headquarters. Today, the Russians break into the internet.

Shoulders shrug.

Great movie, acting terrific. Parallels to today, upsetting to me.

I watched this (rented it on cable), thus afternoon.....what an interesting movie.... I'd say it ranks right up there with the movie , Crash. I like how there are several social topics of concern at stake in this movie: identity, in individual and social type ways; feelings of loss, regret poasibly, the idea that when we're young, we gave all these hopes, dreams and desires and how we try to achieve them. But somehow, like in the movie, our lives don't always stack up to what we imagined it would or could be, and how we tackle our own sense if self worth, retain our own sense of dignity, and how life is life, even if the outcome we try to achieve is nowhere near the expectations and desires held during youth ....as we grow in our life over the years.

Excellent movie: It made me cry, and I thoroughly enjoyed it..... thanks for sharing about this movie, homoe!

Hi everyone.
Went to see these films yesterday.
Darkest Hours is an absolutely brilliant film, the acting is of the highest calibre. And you can see why this is going to scoop a load of awards. It shows a side of Winston that is more human than a lot of films and the enormous task he had to face once he became prime minister. even if you are not into the history side of things it's a film I cannot recommend enough to go and see.
A gem of a film and one I will very happily watch again.

Coco was for me a film that took a time to get going but it did after a while. I really liked the music and the colours the film had. It actually deals with serious subjects which kids sometimes don't understand, particularly the dementia. It does a very good job at addressing these issues. Overall I liked the film, would I get it on dvd when it comes out?
Only to add to my collection.

As an aside......

The Cooler, (William H. Macy) is extremely unlucky at gambling, and he owes the Shangri-La casino over 100,000 dollars. He is so unlucky that he is hired as a "cooler," someone to gamble next to high rollers and give them some of his bad luck to stop them from winning. This arrangement works out for awhile, until Bernie has almost paid off his debt and meets a cocktail waitress (Maria Bello). The two start to fall in love and Bernie's luck begins to change. However, the old-fashioned mob boss (Alec Baldwin) isn't going to let Bernie go so easily. Meanwhile, (Ron Livingston) arrives on the scene to help update the business management of the old mobster-run casino. Also starring Joey Fatone and Paul Sorvino as lounge singers. The other night there was a question I believe in a book category and the answer was The Memory Keeper's Daughter. I mentioned to Mary what a good book it was, and also said they had made a TV movie too. Yesterday when she returned from the daily post office run she slapped it down and was all smiles!

Saw these 2 films over a few days ago.
I really was thinking The Post would be my kind of film, After all the cast is very good.
But instead i was there 45 minutes in thinking how bored to tears i was.
It was a very very slow building film from what i could guess.
I didn't stay to find out.
Perhaps i just wasn't in the mood to see that kind of film at that time.
I will give it another try when its on Netflix or amazon, and see if my verdict changes.

I absolutely loved Downsizing, it gets into your head, and you are thinking "would that be possible" its funny and moving & thought provoking about what we are doing to our planet, and how its gonna end up.
It does slightly lose sight at the end though, in that you kind of feel that maybe its gone a bit off track at some point.
There are the most gorgeous views of Norway in it, and the small/normal size scenes are very cleverly done.
I would go and see it again,

I had have never really had any interest in figure skating, hence I didn't know about this or any of the other bits of the story.
The film was really good, and the acting was superb.
The dark humour in this film is what breaks it up to stop it being too heavy, and you get a sense that this must be what Tonya's humour must be like.
The final penalty I thought was very harsh for Tonya.

We went to see 12 Strong before it leaves the theater. It was very good, but then I've always enjoyed war movies.
