Ok so last night I was either very tired or this was truly a great movie. I got it on Amazon Instant video so I don't know if it is on Netflix but it is called "The Perfect Ending" I really thought it would be a cliche and tacky mess but it was thought provoking and full of aha moments. Really great flick. Here is the link Amazon.com: A Perfect Ending: Barbara Niven, Jessica Clark, John Heard, Morgan Fairchild: Amazon Instant Video
Also this week I rented The Abduction of Eden from Redbox and this one is not for everyone but it is raw and very well done. I sat and bawled for a few hours but that is for a whole other personal reason...it is an emotional movie though so bring some tissues..or the whole box. Here is the amazon link to that one but it is in Redbox now for rental as well Amazon.com: The Abduction of Eden: Beau Bridges, Matt O'Leary, Jamie Chung, Megan Griffiths: Movies & TV
This morning I took my neice to see, Monsters University. It was pretty good.

I just finished watching Say Anything for like the 1000th time since I was a teenager!
I miss the 80's :)~
My son & I went to see After Earth on Tuesday. It took about 20-30 minutes before I started to get into the movie.
Stick to going to see it on a cheap day or for dvd. It's good but don't know if it's worth the $12 bucks to go see it along with popcorn, pop and price of another ticket.

World War Z - I liked it. Not an academy award winner, but I was entertained.
I went to see Now You See Me a couple of nights ago.
It was amazing! I loved it. Just when you think you know what's going to happen, you don't.
I totally recommend everyone should see this at the theatre on the big screen. Too amazing to see on tv.

Wow this is exactly what I have been telling people. Laughed from start to end and will buy the movie when it comes out. I don't buy new movies when they first come out because they are too expensive and I don't have desire to watch again BUT I bought Bridesmaid and will get this one
I watched "The Spectacular Now" last week - I liked the acting and I thought the photography was beautiful. I liked that they didn't mask the scars or the freckles on either of the main actors' faces. There were some issues they glossed over, but I'd probably give it 3 and a half to 4 stars out of 5
I saw "2 guns" with my son and we both really enjoyed it.

Just saw a documentary on HBO last night. Extremely sad. It was about a real case here in CA of a transgendered 15-year-old killed by a 14-year-old and the aftermath of the killing.
I remember reading about it in the Times in 2008.
Worth watching: Valentine Road.
Very well-done, non-exploitive.

Basquiat : Bio of title Artist, Still hoping to grab the DVD, makes a person sit back and ponder what really is Art, and who appointed the folks defining it...
The Darwin Awards: Based on a real Award with the same name, and real cases that have been nominated and "won", each year a bunch of folks that have insanely idiotic ideas, or do certain things which basically...graciously eliminates them from the current chain of Evolution {aka they die or become severely handicapped after having an epic brainfart}
The Flock: A bit disturbing, but a fave of mine nonetheless, Richard Gere was very good at drawing in the viewer with his role as a sex offenders parole officer, some scenes can be Triggering..
Red 2: Awesome personified, funny too. If you haven't seen the first Red, please do..Age really is only a number, the older the person in these 2 Films, the more fucked up, amusing and deemed dangerous.
Side Effects: Another PsychoThriller, loved it, Jude Law's the protagonist, Catherine Zeta-Jones was drool-worthy, both had me edge of my seat, and the Twists involved were perfect...

Parkland
Parkland is a 2013 American historical drama film that recounts the chaotic events that occurred following John F. Kennedy's assassination. The film is based on the book Four Days in November: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy by Vincent Bugliosi.
Parkland weaves together the perspectives of a handful of ordinary individuals suddenly thrust into extraordinary circumstances: the young doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital; Dallas’s chief of the Secret Service; an unwitting cameraman who captured what became the most famous home movie in history; the FBI agents who were visited by Lee Harvey Oswald before the shooting; the brother of Lee Harvey Oswald, left to deal with his shattered family; and JFK’s security team, witnesses to both the president’s death and Vice President Lyndon Johnson’s rise to power.

The Celluloid Closet (1996)
This wonderful documentary delves into the treatment of lesbians and gays in Hollywood. The journey takes us from silent films to 1996. It is amazing how many films have been changed or adapted to hide the gay side of life. So many features we have all seen have in a stealth way dealt with the issue. If we begin to look with a gay eye at cinema we may discover some delightful treats. You might want to view Doris Day in Calamity Jane or Charlton Heston and Stephen Boyd in Ben Hur and the nature of these characters relationships. I think you would all find it enlightening as well as entertaining.

Hunger Games catching fire
Ohmygosh.....after the excitement of the first of this trilogy, quite the let down. The story was painfully long, with nothing of substance happening until the last half hour.
Jennifer Lawrence is phenomenal, yet her worthy performance does not compensate for the slow movement.
Maybe I no longer am looking forward to the third installment.
Good news is this series is quite female centric, books were written by a woman and our protagonist is female.
I sadly say 2 thumbs down.:runforhills:

Viola di Mare and Studs Life - Two thumbs up!!!
I have between 4,000 and 5,000 titles in my library from 1931-present with a heavy concentration on films made during the studio system. I don't "watch" movies, I study them and I usually view films in themes.
Tonight, three classics based on the plays and screenplays of the great Lillian Hellman:
These Three (original of The Children's Hour) (1936)
The Little Foxes (1941)
Watch On the Rhine (1943)
The Family
Robert De Niro, Tommy Lee Jones, Michelle Pfeiffer
A mafia boss and his family are relocated to a sleepy town in France under the witness protection program after snitching on the mob. Despite Agent Stansfield's best efforts to keep them in line, Fred Blake and his family can't help resorting to old habits by handling their problems the 'family' way. Chaos ensues as their former Mafia cronies try to track them down, and scores are settled in the unlikeliest of settings.

Dark comedy. Very amusing even with the gratuitous violence.

Recommended for the effects, mostly. If you haven't read the book or seen the first movie, you might not be able to follow what's going on.

My Dad gave me this to watch to I watched it to be nice. It is fairly decent I mean it could have been better but I liked it because a lot of the characters fit and it wasn't as predictable as most movies without being super intense.
Cloudburst. In a word .... precious. Olympia Dukakis makes a wonderful butch and the romance of this movie is just overwhelmingly sweet. Love.
This was a very good, sweet, sad, funny movie.
Im not sure if Dukakis was playing a "butch" or a down east flannel dyke from Maine.
I didn't care for the granddaughter being portrayed as the underhanded antagonist trying to put her grandmother in a home, while her husband and the male hitch hiker were made out to be understanding and enabling.
Sexism and misogyny, even in a queer movie, is still sexism and misogyny.
My son and I watched "Anchorman". It was on his Christmas list so I got it for him :) We (my girl (f), my son and I) went to see "Anchorman 2" just before Christmas and we all liked it. He and I both prefer Anchorman 2.

I watched this again today.
I noticed some oddities in this movie. It is a mainstream movie so it has to appeal to a wider audience. What better way to accomplish this then by adding scenes like:
~ the male hitch hiker with a bare chest thru most of the movie
~ the male hitcher naked in the rain
~ Olympia Dukakis having a discussion about vaginas with a middle aged male stranger who picked her up when she was hitch hiking
~ the blind dyke accidently getting into bed with the hitch hikers naked father who then chases them around the yard in his birthday suit
It struck me as very sexist and misogynistic while keeping the vision of the patriarchy alive and well and naked clearly in mind and view.

Meryl Streep is an artist like no other. Julia Roberts gave it hell. Great film!

American Hustle... I thought it was choppy and a bit confusing. Reminded me of Boogie Nights but not as good.
Double Take - Orlando Jones & Eddie Griffith
I thought this was rather hilarious, at every other twisted messed up situational adventure these 2 have, the Snark is intense....{I'm not biased, but, the pooch made it funnier}
Blood & Chocolate - I enjoy this type of Plot, where the persons Loyalty to their tight-knit tradition-bound Family is challenged especially where Love is concerned, the fact this girls "Clan" are wolves, makes it much sweeter, so to speak...they morph in a far more fantastic manner than the usual gruesome body crunching-contortion into wolf some other Films portray...I'm still keeping an eye out for the Book version {and hoping there's more}
Fallen - Denzel Washington,
Just when he thought he finally closed the book on a Death-Row psycho, he realizes the Demon has a bone to pick with him when transference fails during the possessed prisoners execution, another favorite topic for me..Demonology v.s. Angelology, where the poor bugger slowly realizes he can't trust just anyone....I looooved the twisted end.

Drugs, prostitutes, crashed helicopters — the debauchery in The Wolf of Wall Street is so outlandish that audiences might leave the theater thinking director Martin Scorsese took plenty of creative license in telling the story of Jordan Belfort, a New York stock broker who conned his way to earning hundreds of millions in the 1990s. But Scorsese’s film closely follows Belfort’s own memoir, also titled The Wolf of Wall Street.
That said, Belfort glorifies his vulgar antics in his book, so how much of his account is truly real is up for debate. After all, Belfort was a scam artist — he made a living by lying. Scorsese, knowing this, portrays Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) as an unreliable narrator in the film (see: the changing color of the car in the first scene and the driving while high on Quaaludes episode).
TIME fact-checks the movie against Belfort’s books (he also wrote a sequel entitled Catching the Wolf of Wall Street) and a series of Forbes articles that have followed Belfort’s scheming.
Belfort’s first boss told him the keys to success were masturbation, cocaine and hookers.
Ruling: Fact
According to the book, a broker named Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey) gave him this advice early on in his career.
Belfort and his partner owned shares of a risky stock and had their brokers at Stratton Oakmont brokerage aggressively sell the stock to inflate the price. They then sold the stock themselves to turn a profit.
Ruling: Fact
Belfort and Danny Porush (called Donnie Azoff in the film and portrayed by Jonah Hill) utilized this age-old pump-and-dump scheme to get rich quick after graduating from scamming middle-class people into buying worthless penny stocks at a 50 percent commission.
Forbes magazine exposed Belfort, calling him a “twisted Robin Hood.”
Ruling: Fact
Though Belfort wasn’t on the cover, Forbes did run a profile of him in which they called him “a twisted version of Robin Hood, who robs from the rich and gives to himself and his merry band of brokers.” Though it was a scathing portrait, the promise of quick $100,000 commissions brought job applicants to Stratton Oakmont in droves.
Stratton Oakmont took Steve Madden public.
Ruling: Fact
Steve Madden did give a speech the day of the IPO, to which the Stratton Oakmont brokers responded with jeers. Madden, Belfort and Porush owned most of the stock and drove up the price. Belfort, Porush and Madden all went to jail for their scheme.
Danny Porush (Donnie Azoff) was married to his cousin.
Ruling: Fact
They’re now divorced.
The driving on Quaaludes scene.
Ruling: Mostly fact
It was a Mercedes, not a Lamborghini. But the rest is true to Belfort’s memoir.
The office parties included a “midget-tossing competition.”
Ruling: Fact
…According to Belfort.
The company billed prostitutes to the corporate card.
Ruling: Fact
…And wrote them off in their taxes.
He crashed a helicopter in his front yard while high.
Ruling: Fact
On a related note, he also did at least attempt to sober up in real life.
He sunk a yacht in Italy.
Ruling: Fact
And the yacht used to belong to Coco Chanel.
He called his trophy wife “duchess.”
Ruling: Fact
Though her name was Nadine, not Naomi.
He served a reduced prison sentence after ratting on his friends.
Ruling: Fact
Turns out Belfort was even more of a jerk than they show in the movie. In the film version, Belfort tries to save his partner from incriminating himself. In reality, Belfort ratted out his partner Porush, among others, for a reduced sentence (the two reportedly no longer speak). Belfort spent only two years in prison and had Tommy Chong (of Cheech and Chong) as his cellmate. Chong convinced Belfort to write a memoir.

Fruitvale Station: best film I've seen in a long time, so genuine, its from the heart and heartbreaking; it's a beautiful, powerful little independent film by a first time director. This film was overlooked by most of the major awards shows this year - their loss, this film outshines most every other film nominated in the top Academy Award categories.
American Hustle: I h.a.t.e.d. it. I really wanted to get up and leave less than 10 minutes in. I was so disappointed, I had really high hopes, I love David O'Russell's films, I loved the Jennifer Lawerence/Bradley Cooper pairing in 'Silver Linings Playbook' ... but this film just fell flat for me, it felt completely disingenuous on every level. It featured a cast of wholly unlikeable 2-dimensional characters, the actors did a good job with what they had, but what they had was a whole lot of nothing. The screenplay was full of holes and jokes that missed their mark, the direction was meandering and self-indulgent. The only upside to the production were the costumes, hair & make-up design --- it says something when the only redeeming aspects of a film are Amy Adams navel plunging necklines and Jennifer Lawerence's hair. What a hype-machine they generated for this mediocre movie, it irritated me that I bought into the hype. And it definitely doesn't pass the Bechdel test. :P I know my opinions on this are in the minority.

My husband's review of the last film we watched.
Only God Forgives (2013)
Director:
Nicolas Winding Refn
Writer:
Nicolas Winding Refn
I do think if you edited down the film to the dialogue and violent scenes this film would last about twenty minutes. The film does capture pointless acts of violence leading to more pointless acts of violence both Julian, played by Ryan Gosling and Chang (Vithaya Pansringarm) have a very disjointed moral compass. Enter Crystal (Thomas) as the mother and you soon realize why her sons are messed up! Nicolas Winding Refn’s usage of mise-en-scene is certainly apparent between this film and previously Drive.
We're the Millers (or is We are the Millers)? Anyways it was okay, I guess I thought it would have been better. Not gonna lie some parts were real good ;)

Lizzie Borden with Christina Ricci.
It was well acted by Ricci. It was disappointing in its focus, which was almost completely on the trial. It would have been better to focus on what led up to it or her life after her not guilty verdict. Both of those aspects are much more interesting.

i have watched this several times. Su Friedrich brings out the personal with all its joy and pain.
The Films of Su Friedrich: Vol. 4 - Hide and Seek
"Hide and Seek" tells the story of Lou, a twelve year old girl coming to terms with her budding sexuality in the mid 1960's. Her bittersweet tale is skillfully interwoven with clips from a wide array of scientific and educational films, as well as interviews with adult lesbians who recount their adolescent attractions to girls, how they felt when they first heard the word lesbian, where they fit in the butch/femme continuum, and their thoughts about how they became baby dykes. "Hide and Seek" is for every woman who's been to a slumber party and every man who wonders what went on at one.
The quote says it all.

gorging on biopics this last week... have watched House of Versace, The Anna Nicole Story, Liz & Dick and now watching Coco Chanel.
Captain Philips was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It infuriated me because of the subject matter, true story that it is. I am a Tom Hanks fan, but I hated the takeover. It's interesting to see that the Maersk shipping line is also in All Is Lost with Robert Redford as a huge bulk carrier that passes him by while he's lost at sea ready to drown. He tries desperately to flag them down as a last ditch effort...but.....
Both actors should have been nominated and were passed over. All Is Lost is excellent in this harsh character study of a man surviving the sea alone; Redford has a physically-demanding role and he is the only actor in the film...tough to pull off. Great writing and direction when one character carries a story and holds you there, or when a story takes place in one room like Sidney Lumet's 12 Angry Men. Even better is when it's stage-shot...cameras in long, single takes without cuts. My favorite of this would be Hitch's Rope.
Have fun at the movies.
I've seen all the latest that I want to see. So, I sat back and watched And Justice For All last night...haven't seen it in years. Great movie!

Jack Goes Boating
The acting was very good and the dialogue was painfully accurate. Great timing of delivery by the actors. I was squirming I was so uncomfortable.
Not much plot, though. Very much just situation and dynamic development. More of a play, really, than a movie. Incredibly intimate, very intense and weird. And something I recognized wayyyyy to close to home, like Superbad. All I can say is, that last scene, with dinner? I am sooooooooo glad my life is no longer that dramatic.

Wow..this movie is a psychological thriller and it does the job. Its directed by

The plot is described as "a lawyer becomes involved in a crooked deal and it goes horribly wrong." Or some description like that. It neglects to add that Cameron Diaz plays a magnificent psychopath, and this added to the fact that it involves the depravity of the drug cartels, and a strong existential theme throughout the movie.
Aside from the fact that the movie is so disturbing it knocked me off my mental facilities for a bit, which I enjoy, it also has been written superbly. The dialogue is penetrating, twitchy, philosophical.

Afternoon Delight
Story of Rachel (actress Kathryn Hahn) a stay-at-home mom who becomes obsessed with changing the life of a sex worker named McKenna.
Rachel has lost touch with herself and with her husband (Josh Radner) and McKenna becomes her focus, instead of her own life.
She brings McKenna home to be the live-in nanny to her 5-year old son and the ripples extend to her marriage, her group of married friends and to herself.
McKenna's life has been no picnic and the actress Juno Temple, does such an outstanding job of showing her inherent sweetness and the losses that she, herself, has experienced. It also is very matter-of-fact about McKenna's jobs and is much less judgmental about her work than movies usually are.
Jane Lynch is her Therapist (greatly in need of therapy herself) and is wonderful.
Written and directed by Jill Soloway.
I truly enjoyed this movie.

I can tell you the girlfriend did not relate to Rachel as I did (no tears) but we talked about it afterward and it opened a really good dialogue between us..

Frozen Ground
It's based on a real story of a serial killer/rapist in Alaska that went on a killing spree of about 12 years. (Mostly prostitutes) Vanessa Hudgens played the part of Cindy, the girl that got away. I think she played the part so well and I read after that she met the real Cindy Paulson and that the part was really hard to play because they made the room that he kept the girls locked up in identicle to the real room. She said she couldn't help but feel really connected to the emotions the girls felt because she could see it so well what happened. John Cusack plays the killer and he said he felt horrible for her having to play that part and him having to play his part in doing those things to her so he asked Vanessa out for drinks with him and his friends after which I thought was cool. Nicholas Cage plays the main cop and he did awesome at his role too.

Dallas Buyers Club (2013)

Once again, Matthew McConaughey and his proud Texan accent excel in a film which seems to be tailored man for him. It is a familiar story of the common man going up a system and its laws. He does this to save his life and you have got to admire his arrogance. He also uses loop-holes in law to ‘sell’ the drugs to HIV patients.
I didn’t feel a great amount of disdain at his ignorance about the illness. As this was the 80s and news of how it was transmitted was ‘spread’ by the press and that is the only information you had in those days (even the doctors stood back from him with face-masks). His homophobic nature was a part of his age and culture but being introduced to people who he easily mocked earlier and then seeing them as people in the same of boat as him lead to one of the film’s theme of ‘redemption’.
I’ve read that there is some artistic license to the real story and some of the characters but i don’t give a shit. The sentiment is there and the film is well made and acted and it isn’t a documentary.
My husbands review, I loved this film! Please go and see it! Think god Matthew McConaughey has stopped making stupid films with Kate Hudson!

Great lines (but not my pick for Best Picture.) Screenplay maybe because it's nominated. Every Best Picture nominee is nominated for writing in each category as original work or as an adaptation, Before Midnight being the exception. I've seen every nominated film for Best Picture and they all have incredible writing and production, but grim and depressing is the theme this year—at full throttle— apart from Philomena and The Wolf of Wall Street, a filthy account from Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter, which drops the F-bomb more than any other film in history. On the flip side, they are my favorite collaborators on Boardwalk Empire. I appreciate the impetus behind creating these films, which is varied, along with their meticulous details. But personally, I've had my fill, all year, of heavy in raunchy true stories (Jason Belfort,), gritty realism (Dallas Buyers Club and American Hustle,) brutality (12 Years A Slave), sadness and dysfunction (August: Osage County), ruination (Blue Jasmine.) and scary shit from (Gravity.) Time to crack open a couple of 6-packs, relax and take a break from all the gunk portrayed in movies this year. I'm coming up for air.
Add movies like Halle Barry in the The Call and Side Effects with Jude Law and Catherine Zeta-Jones (which have nothing to do with the Oscars), and you have the straws that broke the camel's back. (I run to Downton Abbey and animal documentaries and fun stories and movies about heroism.)
If you would like to share your vote for the heck of it, please feel free. I've opened the thread The 86th Annual Academy Awards. I hope you'll take advantage of the thread and all information inside. See ya at the movies.

I watched Last Vegas with ONLY and her sweet boy last night. It was cute.
Of the more digestible movies I've seen without Rx-strength Nexium and Prilosec are The Butler and All Is Lost, man's plight against the sea and the odds of surviving her with Robert Redford. Both films and their actors are snubbed by the Oscars. Your guess is as good as mine as to why.
After a steady diet of negative stories this year, Saving Mr. Banks comes in as the last surprise irritant. "Just A Spoonful of Sugar ...makes the medicine go down" didn't work with me as I tried to digest Emma Thompson as the irritating P.L. Travers, author of Mary Poppins. Emma Thompson, who is excellent as all get-out, plays a demanding, unyielding writer with all the emotion of a walking ironing board who challenges Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) and his staff, at every turn, in their efforts to produce his version of Travers' classic book. You will want to reach in and strangle Thompson at points in this flick along with Disney's staff.
After getting on my last nerve, I shoved in a DVD of Lee Marvin in the Dirty Dozen and left "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" to history in one of Walt Disney's greatest creative achievements over creative differences and P.L. Travers' demands. It was a battle from the get-go.

I miss the days of great French mystery/thrillers by Claude Chabrol, the fabulous Italian films with Monica Vitti , Sophia, Gina, and Claudia, the fantasies of Fellini, the grit of De Sica, the westerns of Sergio Leone, the spectacles of David Lean, the surprises of Hitchcock, and so so much more... I think younger generations really have been deprived of the "magic of the movies".. today's movies are so "small", so smugly self-absorbed, so miserably over-marketed and hyped that people are afraid to say they "stink"...I mean, really, wtf was so good about American Hustle?

i rewatched the Swedish Trilogy The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest.
Absolutely riveting in every way. Great filming, great script, superb acting. The story takes us into the dark place of humanity. Three of the best films i have ever seen. The version with Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, is excellent and worth the watch but Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace, are so good in the originals it can't be beat.
The dubbed version is not so hot. The subtitled extended versions are the best. It comes to around 9 hours of viewing for all three. Each film is split into 1 1/2 hour segments.

Prisoners (2013)
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Writer: Aaron Guzikowski
Fairly harrowing viewing, if a little over long in my opinion. Hugh Jackman once again has facial hair and gets angry (not like he hasn’t done that before) and Jake Gyllenhaal wears the same shirts as Elementary’s Sherlock Holmes! Paul Dano plays the creepy suspect (type casting anyone?) who leads the characters and the audience into moral ambiguity. There a few twists and turns to keep you interested as Detective Loki (Jake) tries to investigate the disappearance of two little girls.
Quotes:
Eliza Birch: Did you feel bad for that deer when you shot it?
Ralph Dover: Do you feel bad for cows when you go into McDonalds?
My husband's review. Great film. A bit hard to watch at times tho.

A touching tale of a Adele finding her sexual self. She meets someone Emma. The liaison from Adele's point of view begins. For Emma this is no secret. There ballet together is exciting and extraordinary to view. The acting is very well done. The filming wonderful. It won the Palme d'Or (best picture) at Cannes Film Festival. There is good reason why. It was not nominated for Best foreign Language Film by the Academy Awards because of release date.
The story twisted me in many ways and i was hesitant in watching the last half hour because my heart wanted a certain ending. i watched and will not say if i was disappointed or not.
The movie is a top picture i have ever seen. It deserves all the accolades it receives and more.
It does deserve the NC-17 as well there is such passion well worth the three hours.
(there were a few areas where the film could have been shortened) Enjoy
Escape Plan (muscle action with Sly Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger). Totally enjoyed the story as improbable as it is. Good to see two action legends in a film together—they still have it.

I saw Monuments Men in the theater the other night. I really liked it a lot. A lot of great actors and it was really fun seeing people like Bill Murray and John Goodman because I can't remember the last time I saw them in a movie.
I don't like spoilers, but the basic premise is that a team of art experts are put together with the task of preserving important works of art that the Nazis stole during WWII. Apparently it's based on a true story and I'm interested in doing a little research on that because I had not previous known anything about this.
It was bittersweet and had its humor and also heartbreak. I was way more emotional than I expected to be. As an artist, it was sort of a surreal experience to watch something about this effort worldwide to preserve art--that great art really can hold that kind of importance to the human experience.
If you're an art fan, or a fan of WWII era movies I would recommend it.

I saw "The Fields" last night on Netflix. It was an interesting movie. Poor Tara Reid can't act her way out of a wet paper bag most movies but Cloris Leachman and the rest of the cast really sold it for me. Hard to describe the film. It bills itself as a horror movie but I would say more thriller. Overall good flick.

I'm pretty intrigued with the mystery of the Mary Celeste lately so I picked up a copy of the film, Phantom Ship, also titled, The Mystery of the Marie Celeste with Bela Lugosi from 1935. There are so many theories as to what had happened, but this theory is that there was a murderer on board.

Let's see...this weekend we watched:
Dallas Buyers Club...based on a true story of Ron Woodroof a rodeo cowboy who was diagnosed with HIV in 1985 and given 30 days to live. His desire to live drove him to seek out other means than the medical treatment of the times both legal and illegal. "Bypassing the establishment, the entrepreneurial Woodroof joined forces with an unlikely band of renegades and outcasts, establishing a hugely successful buyers' club."
Ender's Game....based on a book, set in the future. "Ender Wiggin, a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite. Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military's next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he's trained by Mazer Rackham to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race."
Enough Said..."A divorced and single parent, Eva spends her days enjoying work as a masseuse but dreading her daughter's impending departure for college. She meets Albert - a sweet, funny and like-minded man also facing an empty nest. As their romance quickly blossoms, Eva befriends Marianne, her new massage client. Marianne is a beautiful poet who seems "almost perfect" except for one prominent quality: she rags on her ex-husband way too much. Suddenly, Eva finds herself doubting her own relationship with Albert as she learns the truth about Marianne's ex."

The 2013 remake of "Carrie". Woah! Chloë Grace Moretz nailed it! I don't usually like remakes but I was very impressed with performance of the entire cast. There was actually acting in it. They didn't dumb it down or rely on sex, nudity, and special effects to get the point across. All of it was in there, yes, but the acting is what sold it for me.
Just watched "The Counsellor" on DVD and we could not figure out what the heck was going on. Knew it had to do with the drug world but even at that was kinda making ya wonder cuz of lack of visual drugs lol (meaning you did not really see any)

Paris Was a Woman (1996)
75 min - Documentary
Director: Greta Schiller
Writer: Andrea Weiss
Stars: Juliet Stevenson, Maureen All, Gillian Hanna
Literary Paris in the teens and 20's. This documentary touches on the lives of so many women who in their way have inspired us to be who we are. It is based on the book sellers of the period which were many women. It was they who touched the literary pulse of the nation and the world. The film touches on aspects of Gertrude Stein, Alice B. Toklas, Splita Solano, Renee Vivian, Natalie Barney Colette and so many of the women who shared their love of each other in the open. They were not judged but set into a separate society of literate women. Wonderful watch. I enjoyed it thoroughly enjoyed it.

Bad Words
Starring Jason Bateman (Arrested Development).
Jason plays Guy Trilby who is a 40-year old who finds a loophole in the rules of the National Quill Spelling Bee and decides to cause trouble by hijacking the competition. Contest officials, outraged parents, and overly ambitious 8th graders are no match for Guy, as he ruthlessly crushes their dreams of victory and fame. As a reporter attempts to discover his true motivation, Guy finds himself forging an unlikely alliance with a competitor: awkward 10-year old Chaitanya, who is completely unfazed by Guy's take-no-prisoners approach to life. (Published review, not mine).
I laughed but it is absolutely rated R. If the F word bothers you or off-beat humor does-avoid it. I also wondered about parents that would let their little kids act in a movie like this to be honest.
I guess I have mixed feelings about it.

300: Rise of an Empire

Mr.Peabody and Sherman
Both were good films. 300 was a a good telling of the larger sea battle of Thermopylae, and not just the battle of the 300 Spartans. Very powerful key roles played by women in the film. If you are into brutal CGI fight scenes, it's a winner.
Mr.Peabody was fun and I am sure if you weren't a fan of the original it was a blast. I was left longing for the original voices and timing of narrators from the Rocky and Bullwinkle shows, but overall it was fun. Enjoy!
