it was just okay. i knew it was a remake so i decided to watch the 1971 version with Clint Eastwood.
OMG it was so much better than the remake. In the remake they cut out so much, it lost guts!

Critics have not been kind to Red Sparrow, but I liked it a lot. It's not trying to be a Bond movie. And that is refreshing in some ways.
Jen plays the role very well, though I am not convinced about her dancing scene.
The film actually went rather fast time wise, which is always a good sign.
Give it a try, even if it's just when it comes out on dvd etc.
Ferdinand - loved this movie, more so than Coco, but that film was entirely different.
Ferdinand does have deep seeded meaning to it about animal welfare. And the conflict between that and tradition.
I have always thought bull fighting was a barbaric event, as I have fox hunting etc.
This film is funny, and it's cute, but it is also constructive in it theme.
Kids and adults will like it.

Watched The Invitation. It was ok, although as a film about cults I think The Master is a better crafted film. Definitely not a horror film. Psychological thriller sure. Interesting take on trauma.
Wouldn’t watch again.
Also saw The Force Awakens for the second time. I actually didn’t like it (I don’t like hand holding and the overwrought explanation of the Force was unnecessary and boring) except for the really wonderfully random references to Spaceballs! I thought I imagined those.
I think I’m gonna go as Dark Helmet for Halloween

hi film buffs,
So went to see this film yesterday in imax.
I liked it.
For Stephen I think it was a nod to nostalgia and quite a lot of self indulgence.
The film plot is pretty much as he title suggests, based around video gaming.
But there are more things in the film he wants you to think about too.
E.g like spending more time in reality and how technology is ruling us and not the other way round.
The film did convey these thoughts well, but I feel it could have been cut by a few minutes.
It was very spectacular in imax, and the 3D was done very well too.
Check out a trailer, see what you think and if you are a old school video gamer I would say go and see it.

This films a real gem, and I can't praise it enough. If you like foreign films then your in for a real treat. It's a French subtitled film.
The context is quite heavy, and you will have to be in the mood for this film as it's in no way comedic. Watch the trailer and see what you think.
But this film Is one that you foreign film buffs will want to see for sure.
Mario Cotillard plays this with so much conviction, it's pure pleasure to see an actress do this level of work.
Please, please make the effort to Watch it.
You won't regret it.

Wonder Woman - I not only loved the early parts on the hidden isle of Amazons (who here wouldn't?!) but also the comments made on the world we live in as seen by an innocent (Wonder Woman) when she entered our world. Yes!
I also loved the bit about how "it was determined that for procreation, men are essential, but for pleasure, unecessary" - had me in giggles, did that!
Light entertainment that makes one think - and great to look at too? Gets my vote!

Hi everyone.
Saw these films on Saturday.
Mission Impossible in 3D Imax.
I really did enjoy this film, not usually one for liking most of this franchise, but I did like it enough to watch it a second time at some point in the future.
If you are wanting action then this is the movie for you. Loads of stunts that were ott as you would expect.
And if you like just pure entertainment then this is a film to watch.
Mamma Mia
not as good as the first one, but still plenty to enjoy about it.
Obviously if you are a ABBA fan then you'll like the music.
The men in the film however I thought were very poor in the vocals, whereas the girls were amazing. Especially Lily. Is there nothing that that young lady can't do.
by the way watch Baby Driver, it's an amazing movie. And yes I know it's got Kevin Spacey, but as always his acting is superb.

Saw this today and it was good. It was smart, poignant, and funny. It was violent in a just a couple parts, but one of the things I love about Spike’s movies is that he seldom, if ever, combines violence and sex. It’s easy to laugh at the Klan because, in the movies, they’re often buffoons ... and that’s my only problem with the film; as usual, the cluckers are portrayed as fools and I don’t think that’s the case in real life. Other than that, it’s a winner and I look forward to seeing it again on DVD.
And, Spike closed the movie with a rendition of Mary Don’t You Weep by Prince. It was sweet.

Have to say I was disappointed with this film.
It is supposed to be a story about a young man and a Wolf, and the start of the domestication of the Wolf to the dog.
The story of the two took some time to get to, and although I realise that you need some kind of back story to how they met it was drawn out.
I went to see it on 3D but it didn't really seem that 3D to me either.
Get it out on dvd but I wouldn't bother going to the cinema if you have to pay.
BlacKkKlansman
I really like this film, even though there are some bits that could have been cut, (long disco dancing scene for one)
It have some bits of humour in it in places so you can laugh and have a seconds break from the very serious issues in the film.
The subject of the film is very raw still given the current climate in the USA especially.
Worth going to the cinema for but if not watch it when it's out on other formats

Selena with Jennifer Lopez.
First time I viewed it and I it was good. The music was great and took me back to when I lived near the ocean in the 90s. And I like JLo’s acting (Blood and Wine, Shades of Blue) more than I like most singers who try to act (Whitney, Beyonce, Bowie). Not sure I’ll watch it again, but I enjoyed it enough to recommend it to others.

Went to see A Star is Born. It was way better than I could ever have imagined. I think that Gaga is in a class all by herself. I already downloaded the music. Cooper did an excellent job at directing. I found it interesting that it was produced by Jon Peters who was Streisand's boyfriend and they co-produced her version of A Star is Born

Harold and Lillian: A Hollywood Love Story (2015)
Storyboard artist Harold Michelson and his wife, film researcher Lillian Michelson, were a talented couple once considered the heart of Hollywood. Harold and Lillian worked on hundreds of iconic films during Hollywood's golden age, including "The Ten Commandments," "The Apartment," "The Birds," "Full Metal Jacket" and more. Although the couple were responsible for some of Hollywood's most iconic examples of visual storytelling, their contributions remain largely uncredited.

Saw _Bohemian Rhapsody_ for the 2nd time this weekend. It was AWESOME!!! It gets some things out of chronological order - I heard an interview and they said they did that so they could squeeze in everything they wanted to in a 2 hour and 15 minute movie. I rented it online, last night. I love the sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean (open aerial shots of Big Sur), the cars, the fashion trends of the time, and the stars in the movie...and the central theme of the movie about the sandpiper (symbolism): The character Laura Reynolds, as she nurses a sandpiper with a broken wing. The bird lives in her home until it is healed and then flies free, though it comes back occasionally. The sandpiper is used as a central symbol in the movie, illustrating the themes of growth and freedom. Something about films from the 1960s that soothes me, especially this one. I loved watching it.

Fabulous movie set in WWII while Dunkirk was a disputed territory between UK, France, Belgium (King capitulated to Nazi rule early and without knowledge of Belgian gov't).

You know, this film has also added to my understanding of how Trump won the election. When I first saw the title, I thought vice was meant to be some moral failing or bad habit and the film would be about cops and robbers - some crime film, and not that it would be a biopic about the Vice-President, Dick Cheney. But after watching the film, I can easily see that, in this instance, it meant both (chuckles).
I think, Christian Bale, who won the Golden Globe for best actor really deserved it. I liked this film, especially how it showed the growth of the right throughout America and who made that possible, how it also mentioned how public opinion evolved into a way of seeing the world (for many Americans) through the emergence of the Republican-based news network Fox - and how it was created by peeps like Cheney (almost typed "creeps" like Cheney ...........). The last after-credit scene with people expressing how they liked/disliked the film was priceless, with a hard-core right-winger taking swipes at the "liberal" under- and over-tone of the whole film, resulting in a free-for-all melee. Absolutely priceless - fact vs. opinion. Really worth seeing.

Considering that the Academy Awards are coming up, I am checking out the favs:
So, Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)... interesting film, worth watching - up for 5 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture - and Best Actor for Rami Malek. Being a sci-fi fan, I know Malek from I, Robot :) I am not a rocker at all, but it was a fairly good film. Of course, there were all the songs that I've already heard and I'm sure many here know, and it was quite entertaining. I do not think it will win as Best Picture, but Malek was pretty good. Am not sure I would watch it again. I have to agree with one comment by one of the actors in the film, that he wouldn't really have much to do with Freddie Mercury until Mercury "liked himself", and I think that was something I picked up on early in the film... shame that he had to get sick just to wake up.
Now, also saw A Star is Born (2018), which I enjoyed more than Bohemian Rhapsody - on the whole. Lady Gaga was really good - boy can she sing - and act! The fact that there was "love" involved engaged me more than the Rhapsody. Up for many awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor. Worth watching, I may see it a second time.

Well, I saw Black Panther (2018), and really liked it overall. Much fun, action, drama, fantasy... (wishful thinking - lol/the American Dream for m/woc). So, I suspended my belief system so to speak (btw, I don't any beliefs), and just enjoyed the film for what it is, and it was really quite well done. It's nominated for 7 Academy Awards and I thought it was well worth watching. As an aside - Hey, this evil guy, Klaue - I thought he reminded me of some actor I had seen before, and in the 2nd scene he appeared in, it dawned on me, it was Gollum (!!! *g) from Lord of the Rings, the inimitable Andy Serkis.
Well, the SAG awards were announced, and this film beat out all the others for best picture (i.e. it won out over A Star is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody, BlacKkKlansman, and Crazy Rich Asians). Apparently, the Screen Actors Guild are said to be a good indicator of who might win at the Academy Awards; we'll see, right?
Anyhooo, as Nina Simone, once sang - but not in this film (btw, I once saw her live... :) ):

Set in contemporary Chicago, four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands' criminal activities, take fate into their own hands, and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. IF only this was the movie Hollywood made! A wonderful cast of women that the movie should of revolved around but didn't IMHO!

The last movie I saw was "Pretty In Pink" starring Molly Ringwald. Amazingly, I never saw this movie in the '80's (the halcyon days of my youth, LOL!). I didn't like it as much as I did "Sixteen Candles".
I saw a really good documentary last night on Netflix called "Period. End of Sentence." Apparently, a lot of young women in India drop out of school upon the onset of menarche, because they don't have proper pads, just old rags to use for protection, and they have to walk so far away from the building to dispose of the used rags in a ditch somewhere. Also, it's considered shameful.
Somebody introduces the raw materials and machine needed for actual menstrual pads to be manufactured. This machine created jobs and income for the women in this particular village. They went door to door and sold all of their stock in one day! Most women are too embarrassed to go to the market and purchase pads, hence the wild success of their door to door business.
I know its not an actual movie, but I highly recommend it.

The film details the life of a tough, impoverished kid who rose through the ranks of Chicago's underworld to become a top member-many say the real godfather-of the most ruthless gangland organization in the country: The Outfit, run by Al Capone. Giancana was purported to have helped get JFK elected president, as well as being hired by the CIA. It also showcases the Giancana daughters who best knew their father as a loving family man.

Starring Chris Pratt & Jennifer Lawrence.
Seen the trailer for this and thought it looked like a average/not so good film so dismissed it totally. But having got a 4K bluray player and it being cheap to buy thought what the hell and got it.
This movie was actually a big surprise and a good one at that. Wont give anything away. Its sci-fi based but not hard sci-fi and gets you thinking would you do the same given the situation.
Check it out but don't go much by the trailer.

This film is one of the worst book to film adaptions i have ever had the misfortune to watch.
Unlike the book where you connect profoundly with cameron.
The film doesn't manage to achieve whats so ever.
It misses huge chunks out that were in the book.
This had so much potential to be a great film. But instead its one to steer clear of.
Read the book and i guarantee that you will be moved so much.
What a real shame.

Where's My Roy Cohn?
Roy Cohn personified the dark arts of American politics, turning empty vessels into dangerous demagogues - from Joseph McCarthy to his final project, Donald J. Trump.
One of the most controversial and influential American men of the 20th Century, Roy Cohn was a ruthless and unscrupulous lawyer and political power broker whose 28-year career ranged from acting as chief counsel to Senator Joseph McCarthy's Communist-hunting subcommittee to molding the career of a young Queens real estate developer named Donald Trump.

Really found this movie a very good watch. There are parts that make you just plain sick at some of the conduct that goes on, it also makes you angry has hell too at moments.
Given what's going on in the world at the moment its very relevant regarding a lot of high powered men.
Being not from the usa i didn't know these women but that didn't really make it any less of a very good movie for me.
Great acting by all the cast too.

I can't remember the name but it was yesterday and it was gross and horrible. A man was outside smoking andi is abducted by a man who dresses up in different costumes and comes down to the basement periodically where he has him tied up, to torture him. His first role play he dressed up as a clown. Even though it's just a film I had to close my eyes and fast forward through most of it because even though it did look a little fake in certain parts still I felt compelled to watch. I just had to know was he punished and if so how was he punished, or how did his victim escape. Turned out in the end the psycho proved to be the guy's wife who realized he was the serial killer all over the news and got him to do her husband in because she discovered her best friend was having an affair with her husband. Wow, jealousy can get bad but like that – oh shit! A good lesson in how things can go too far if someone doesn't work really hard on keeping their revenge fantasies in check.

I was so looking forward to seeing this movie however I found it couldn't hold a candle to Showtime's Loudest Voice which was based on the best-selling book "The Loudest Voice" by Gabriel Sherman.
The cast of Bombshell was outstanding and I see why some were up for an Oscar, but as for the story telling of Roger Ailes background and dastardly deeds while at the helm of Fox stick with Loudest Voice!
