Didn't care for it. Thought it was miscast. Would have liked seeing Bobby Cannavale or maybe an unknown Latino actor in the lead role and Jon Favreau in a secondary role.

Music was nice.

An IFC movie on Neftflix.

The Last Days.

A unique, horror (but not slasher-type), love story.

It was billed as a "captivating vision of the apocalypse".

Ha! Not a zombie apocalypse either...

I liked it. It was in Spanish, with sub-titles.

Kelly and Cal
Juliette Lewis, Cybill Shepherd, & Johnny Weston

A punk-rocker turned suburban mom Kelly, nostalgic for the life she no longer has and uncertain of a future where she doesn't yet fit in. 17-year-old Cal (newcomer Jonny Weston), is frustrated at his lack of control over the hand he's been dealt. When the two neighbors meet, they find in each other an unlikely but much-needed connection to the world.

The Rover with Guy Pearce

The Rover is a 2014 Australian drama film written and directed by David Michôd and based on a story by Michôd and Joel Edgerton. It is a contemporary western taking place in the Australian outback, ten years after a global economic collapse(Wikipedia)

My GF and I felt that it was very slow in parts.

Today was a busy movie day!

I saw

fH0cEP0mvlU

and was, again, pleasantly surprised. Jason Bateman is in this one too and I'd forgotten that. He's turned into quite the talented actor through the years. He does emotionally vacant especially well.

and then I saw

AwwbhhjQ9Xk

Apparently, it does not hold with the book but that's fine as I did not read the book. I was a bit annoyed at the ending but I won't spoil anything for anyone.

I also wound up raiding a Redbox and watching this

K3SlVsdUuBY

and I enjoyed it quite a bit. For a movie about football, it was pretty cerebral. The only thing I didn't feel was copacetic was the connection between Costner and Garner. They were great individually but it was hard to buy them as baby makers.

All in all, it was a good cinema day for me.

Visually, it was epic as expected. The storyline was fairly formulaic but it wasn't boring if you like this kind of stuff. The surprise for me came from Stanley Tucci, who played scientist Joshua Royce. He had the best and funniest lines. Besides the introduction of the Dinobots, he was the best part for me.

Today, I saw this movie.

Q2dFVnp5K0o

It was as I expected. I saw it in 3D, which was okay, but I think that regular would have been fine too. This movie falls victim to something that's happening to a lot of new movies over the past few years. The trailers are revealing too much of the storyline. There was only one twist that I didn't see coming from the trailer and it was good, but I wish more had been left to the imagination in the trailer. If you see it, stick around until all the credits run.

I'm a foodie. A foodie-lifer, in fact. My whole life has revolved around food. My mother was French. My father, a restaurateur. So, I was really interested in this film.

Chef had great potential. There are some poignant scenes, for sure. It's hard to make a film about chefs, I think, without there being a subtext for enhanced storytelling. The subtext here is the genesis of food trucks and how social media made them what they are in culture. Then, eventually, back to bricks and mortar.

I don't know how much Twitter invested or paid for this film. But, I'm willing to bet a lot since it's as much about them as it is about food.

If you're interested in chefs, a good book about chefs, I think, anyway, is "Kitchen Confidential" - raw and honest.

Cheers and tables!

Its nostalgia weekend. Redid Mary Poppins and Sound of Music.

Also saw 2 new to me ones:

Thoroughly Modern Millie - I might have enjoyed the music, flappers, and dancing if the undercurrent of the film wasnt about a hotel for single women who were targeted, drugged, and sold into "white slavery".

Breakfast at Tiffany's - I liked this one, except the main characters name was Holly Golightly. It took a bit for the colonoscopy flashbacks to dissipate.

Up next is My Fair Lady.

It was listed as a comedy. I would say dramody is a better listing. I picked it expecting funny bits but they were far and few. Overall, it was okay, but don't pick it if you want an actual comedy.

The film tells a story of love and deceit,in the world of high-end art auctions and antiques. The story revolves around Virgil Oldman (Geoffrey Rush), an elderly and esteemed, but somewhat eccentric, managing director of an auction house. Oldman is hired by a reclusive young heiress, Claire Ibbetson (Sylvia Hoeks), to auction off the large collection of art and antiques left to her by her parents. For some reason, Claire always refuses to be seen in person.

I figured out this movie in about 2 seconds but I'd suggest giving it a try. It does move slow just to be forewarned!

Recently saw Welcome to New York starring Gerard Depardieu and directed by Abel Ferrara. Though there's a pointed disclaimer at the start of the film, it's about the troubles of former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn who comes across as a despicable pig.

It was almost obscene, most certainly vulgar and violent, but none the less fascinating. It's the best work I've seen by Depardieu in years (!) and I will most likely watch this again.

Hunted: The War on Gays in Russia.

Documentary on HBO.

Scary shit. Institutionalized homophobia.

Violent attacks on gays have increased tremendously. Roving packs of vigilantes hunt gays, attack and film the attacks. They then post them online.

Russia passed a law last summer that a all positive and neutral references to non-traditional relationships is illegal. The Russian parliament passed it unanimously.

One vigilante said it all: Russia is hell for homosexuals.

Saw "Dear White People" over the weekend. Just released but was a hit at Sundance. I thought it was well done and worth seeing but I am always a fan of humor used to discuss difficult or sensitive issues that people may want to shy away from. It reminded me a bit of Spike Lee's "School Daze" but wasn't as hard edged. It discussed standard racial stereotypes but avoided some of the microaggression often found in daily living. See it with friends and plan to have dinner/coffee afterwards as it brings up some interesting discussion points.

Haiiirrrrry BABY.

I have accomplished my goal.

This movie actually surprised me a bit. I knew it had a sad bit in it but I found myself bawling like a baby in more places than I anticipated.

Of course, I teared up during the Pampers commercial too so maybe that's not saying much.

I figured things out before they did in the movie but not so early that it annoyed me. In fact, I quite enjoyed the whole process of it all.

Good story. Good characters. Good graphics. They even have a Fall Out Boy song for the theme.

There was a boy in a wheelchair, possibly with cerebral palsy (or 100 other conditions; I'm just guessing from what I saw), a few seats from me and he squealed with joy throughout the movie and that actually made the movie better. The rest of us laughed and gasped at the appropriate moments and he just squealed to his heart's content at some of the oddest moments but it made me look at things a bit differently and I tried to look at it through his eyes.

If you go see it, STAY the whole movie, through all the credits. There's a yummy bit of fun at the very end.

This HBO Films drama tells the dramatic, poignant and often-exasperating story of the early days of the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City in the early 1980s, taking an unflinching look at the nation's sexual politics as gay activists and their allies in the medical community fight to expose the truth about the burgeoning epidemic to a city and nation in denial. This film boasts an all-star cast, including Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo, Oscar winner Julia Roberts, Matt Bomer, Taylor Kitsch, Alfred Molina and three time Emmy winner Jim Parsons. "The Normal Heart" is directed by Emmy winner Ryan Murphy and written by Oscar nominee Larry Kramer, adapting his groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning play of the same name.

qwI8y3_Lvto

It was charming and reminiscent of ET, as expected. Nice CG.

Then I needed some humor so I put on The Fluffy Movie.

Gabriel Iglesias is da bomb! I was, however, surprised that I wound up tearing more at his movie than Earth to Echo. I watched the extended version and it was amazing.

Daniel Radcliffe, Zoe Kaza

Wallace, who is burned out from a failed relationship, forms an instant bond with Chantry, who lives with her longtime boyfriend. Together, they puzzle out what it means if your best friend is also the love of your life.

Choices this week were THE MAZE RUNNER which reminded me a lot of The Lord of the Flies book. Maybe I am too old to watch a bunch of teenage boys being intense and fighting amongst themselves. I would say to wait until you can rent it.

Second movie was THE EQUALIZER. Denzel Washington did a superb job, and I was glad I chose this one. When I scream, jump in my seat, and grab the leg of the person next to me, it is a good movie I think. lol

I saw Railroad Man with Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman...

I have been choosing movies at random from the library..and I'm rather enjoying it. I have no expectations going in and it simply unfolds in front of me.

This movie was based on a true story. It's about a man who always had a penchant for railroads (since childhood) and he becomes a soldier during World War II.

His entire regiment is taken prison at the fall of Singapore. If you've seen Bridge on the River Kwai, it's the same time and same geographical area.

A newer version of Jane Eyre :)

One of my favorite books! I just love the historical romances...but I know I'm in the minority there lol.

This new version is with Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender. Dame Judi Dench also plays a part.

The story is the same but they did such a great job with imagery and subtlety which really is the defining mark of a really good historical drama. For me anyway :)

I have seen other versions of the movie, but this one by far is the best I've seen. I chose wisely... the library has 3 versions :) (Yes, I will likely watch them too...lol just for the subtle variances..)

I've been avoiding Meryl Streep movies for some years because I was becoming numb to her talent. It was like having too much apple pie--it was good, but enough, already. A friend suggested I watch AOC because I like movies with difficult conversations. Streep was so good in this that I will have to watch the movie again because I probably missed some subtle elements of the film since I was mesmerized by her performance. :) I'll watch it, and other Streep movies, in the next couple weeks.

Streep once told James Lipton of Inside the Actors Studio that each of her characters has a secret that no one knows about. The only secret she would share was the one held by her character in Kramer vs Kramer. The role she played was Mrs. Kramer and her secret was that she never loved her husband, Mr. Kramer--not even when she was married to him. It was sooooo fitting. And even though it was never said in the film, it was expressed in everything she did.... She is probably the greatest American actress of my generation.

So glad I gave AOC a chance.

I had hoped it was some kind of war movie...I'm a girl who likes them...mostly...

Yeah...it's not a war movie. It's some seriously messed up acid trip is what it is... don't get me wrong; I can watch Mr. Jake do most anything...but I just waited and waited for a conclusion to be drawn and when it did....all I could think was...REALLY??

I feel very meh about losing 2 hours of my life. But Jake Gyllenhaal has beautiful shoulders...does it compensate? Not really....just makes me feel less bad about the loss of time in my life...

I watched The Conspirator with Robin Wright, Kevin Kline etal. (I was VERY happy to see a very grown up Alexis Bledel from Gilmore Girls play a smallish role :) )

The movie is about President Lincoln's assassination and the trial of the many people who conspired to commit the assassination attempt on the president and several of his cabinet. The story focuses mainly on Mary Surratt, the owner of the boarding house where the plot was laid by Booth and his minions.

It was a rollercoaster ride for me emotionally; Lincoln has long been one of my favorite people from history. I did not want to be sympathetic to Mrs. Surratt...but I was very much so in the end.

The movie stands as a good example of mob mentality and how our government has the frequent history of acting before thinking objectively. I definitely gave thought to other incidences in our history that were not at all proud. Sadly, I look around today and see not.much.has.changed.

I didn't expect much in the way of acting. I'd seen the first one knew the cast, so I knew what to expect.

Lots of explosions and angry glares and grunts as well as some good one liners.

Hell yeah!

Some of the tricks were really neat, so I was satisfied with that choice. Plus it's not every day that you get Stallone, Dolph, Harrison Ford, Kelsey Grammer, Mel Gibson (reprising his role as the bad guy)<---spoiler alert, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, some new blood, some old blood and the ever so sexy Jason Statham. I was happy to see a female kicking ass too. Good for Ronda Rousey.

h6H8pAKKkgQ

This is where I got my good acting gullet filled. It was well written, acted and directed. Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey had their hands in this one and it shows. It's a good, classy movie.

I just wish I had smell-o-vision for the cooking scenes.

20,000 Days on Earth (2014)
Directors:
Iain Forsyth, Jane Pollard
Writers:
Nick Cave, Iain Forsyth
This isn’t a document on his career more like an insight in his enigmatic character. I always find it interesting to see the construction of a piece of ‘art’ and i don’t know of many documentaries that have this as a narrative. When he started recording his new album, Push the Sky Away, he’d been alive 20,000 days and the film also shows aspects of his day…. It also showed a lot of Brighton. One for Nick Cave fans really, like the majority of documentaries about musicians or rock stars, if your not interested in the artist then the whole experience may be lost on you.

Don Jon
A fabulous directorial debut from Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who also plays the eponymous Johnny.
Set in NJ, Jon is obsessed with porn and girls, in that order. This story illustrates how Jon learns the difference from 'doing sex to...', a one-sided, porn influenced, image conscious version of sex to a fully engaged, in the moment, flood of feeling version of 'having sex with...'. There's more of course but you get the gist.

Thoroughly enjoyed the tale and hope you do too if you decide to give it chance. Thanks for the recommend Leftwritefemme

Hunger Games: Catching Fire (watched last night)

Oh dear lord! Am I the only one who really doesn't buy Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss?
The films are mildly distracting where the books are engrossing, despite being appallingly written. [I'm currently reading the first one out loud for the enjoyment of another and am grateful for the easy vocab. and simple structure. I read the trilogy ages ago and am enjoying listening in to the story as well as reading it].

I really don't know what it is about the HG films that have meant I've not warmed to them. Not so sure if it's just Lawrence in the lead role that spoils it for me. It was the same with the Thomas Harris books vs the film versions. The films never lived up to expectations having read and thoroughly enjoyed the books long before.

Anyone else have this issue with films of books they've enjoyed prior to seeing the films?

I've been thinking about your question and, more often than not, I don't have a problem with book-to-film transfers.... 84 Charring Cross Road, Silence of the Lambs, Waiting To Exhale, Goodfellas, Devil in a Blue Dress, Long Days Journey Into Night, Street Car Named Desire ... all are books (or plays) I read and liked before seeing the film. Granted, I dont read nearly as much as I used to, but I would expect the same reaction these days.

My biggest beef is bad remakes. "The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" comes to mind.

"Marcus Luttrell and his team set out on a mission to capture or kill notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shah, in late June 2005. Marcus and his team are left to fight for their lives in one of the most valiant efforts of modern warfare."

Be prepared for a lot of cringe worthy (as in "wow that looks like it hurt") moments. It is as described an in-depth look at a gun fight. Entertaining isn't a word I would use as much as well done. And it was. Based on true events.

Hard to even remember that Mark Wahlberg was Marky Mark the model and rapper. He's come a long way.

Homoe's post reminded me, I saw Colin Firth in The New World, and I don't remember if I posted about it.
It was not bad... I always watch the "special features" and they showed some background. They kept the Native American dress and customs as authentic as they could. Actually, they were showing how they were making the Indian village homes, and I was like, OH that looks just like how the Algonquins made their long houses! And...turns out...the Indians (at least as portrayed in the movie, if not the ones met by Captain John Smith) were indeed Algonquins. So...good touch!

I knew I'd love this and wasn't disappointed. I loved the previous two and knew how good this one would be too. The tribute note for Mickey Rooney and Robin Williams made me sad. I can't help it; I'd watched Robin's movies and comedy since I can remember. Mork was a favorite of mine as a child. I miss the guy.

I love, love, love this remake and was interested to learn that Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Jay Z all have producing credits. Quvenzhané Wallis is phenomenal and totally deserves her Golden Globe nomination. Excellent movie.

The only thing that made me kind to tilt my head was one of the previews for this movie. They previewed Selma (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6t7vVTxaic). While I think it's a great movie and important to our history as a nation and with current issues, I don't think it's appropriate as a trailer for a children's movie. Sure, the kids have parents with them but the audience was primarily 10 and under.

Some movies I have put on my mental list for next year are:

The Young Victoria. I really, really loved this movie. In fact, I felt it ended too soon. I really wanted to see more, rather than the written snippets that tied it up. We've been on a holiday movie kick all week, and those go without naming.

But a notable exception, and one that doesn't fit the theme - St. Vincent (Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy, Naomi Watts). While it had a fairly predictable formula, I was still both repulsed and endeared with Murray's portrayal. The layering of revealed information about the depth of his character was worth watching.

Also, ventured out to see Wild (Reese Witherspoon) since I absolutely connected with the novel by Cheryl Strayed. The movie just didn't have the same emotional pull I was hoping for. I think it was the treatment of the transitions between thoughts, memories, and reality. I just didn't feel it because the harshness of the reality didn't match the intensity of the memory. But Witherspoon was accurately cast for the role.

Witherspoon wasn't 'cast' in the normal regard. Her production company acquired the rights to the book and she had Cheryl on the set for half the movie.

If you check out this (http://variety.com/2014/film/features/reese-witherspoon-production-company-female-driven-material-1201323117/) article, you can see what other projects are coming up.

I waffled on St. Vincent and then finally decided to not see it in the theatre. I'd probably hit it up on Redbox.

Movie Review: 'Fruitvale Station'

Michael B. Jordan and Ariana Neal play father and daughter in this debut feature by Ryan Coogler.

In the early hours of Jan. 1, 2009, Oscar Grant III, unarmed and lying face down on a subway platform in Oakland, Calif., was shot in the back by a white Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer. The incident, captured on video by onlookers, incited protest, unrest and arguments similar to those that would swirl around the killing of Trayvon Martin in Florida a few years later. The deaths of these and other African-American young men (Mr. Grant was 22) touch some of the rawest nerves in the body politic and raise thorny and apparently intractable issues of law and order, violence and race.

Mr. Jordan plays Oscar Grant, who was killed by a Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer. Those matters are hardly absent from “Fruitvale Station,” Ryan Coogler’s powerful and sensitive debut feature, which imaginatively reconstructs the last 24 or so hours of Oscar Grant’s life, flashing back from a horrifying snippet of actual cellphone video of the hectic moments before the shooting. But Mr. Coogler, a 27-year-old Bay Area native who went to film school at the University of Southern California, examines his subject with a steady, objective eye and tells his story in the key of wise heartbreak rather than blind rage. It is not that the movie is apolitical or disengaged from the painful, public implications of Mr. Grant’s fate. But everything it has to say about class, masculinity and the tricky relations among different kinds of people in a proudly diverse and liberal metropolis is embedded in details of character and place.

...Even as it unfolds with a terrible sense of inevitability, “Fruitvale Station” is rarely predictable. The climactic encounter with BART police officers erupts in a mood of vertiginous uncertainty, defusing facile or inflammatory judgments and bending the audience’s reflexive emotional horror and moral outrage toward a necessary and difficult ethical inquiry.

How could this have happened? How did we — meaning any one of us who might see faces like our own depicted on that screen — allow it?

http://www.movies.nytimes.com/2013/07/12/movies/fruitvale-station-is-based-on-the-story-of-oscar-grant-iii.html?_r=0

How indeed?

This is a very well-acted, directed and written movie. I did not want to watch it as I could feel the inevitably of the outcome. I did, am glad that I did but it is still staying with me. As a society, somehow, someway; we must change.

We have so far to go.

Cloudburst, because my mom wanted to see it. Half way through I turned to my mom and said "omg this is fucking awful."
Mom: yes. It is kind of, isn't it.
Me: you mind if we don't bother finishing it?
Mom: no, it's a waste of time. Let's play some cards then.

There you go. I thought it was awful and even my mom couldn't be arsed to finish watching it either.

So far the only dyke love story I've watched that wasn't hideous was Fire (Indio-canadian), Amie & Jaguar (Germany) and Bound (though bound wasn't hideous, it wasn't exactly fabulous either. I know lots of people love it because it has a butch and a femme in it, but I actually care about dialogue, plot, editing, character development... You know stuff that makes a good film, not just a kind of entertaining one that doesn't ask anything of you. Yes, I can be a snob).

However, the one I watched just before was "the way I live now"
British film about an American girls that chooses to stay in England as WWIII breaks out. It's not loud music, plot shoved in your face crap, it's actually jarring.

Well, it was for me, being a gen X. There is a scene where a nuclear bomb is dropped before war is declared. You don't see the bomb. But the distant effects that are eerie, subtle and very, very frightening, I used to have nightmares about as a teen and in my 20s. They captured my Cold War Bomb nightmares incredibly well. It actually gave me goose bumps.

The ending was a tiny bit of a let down as it seemed to get wrapped up very quickly and suddenly. Bit of a disappointment, the end, but the movie was very well done.
Two fucked up teen agers, both very believable characters, especially the anxious, anorexic, angry, american girl.

I do love a film that has a strong, believable, female hero.

The Wolf of Wall Street - Most excellent, I feel like Leo was perfect the role. He usually casts well when he does a movie.

No Pain No Gain - totally stupid, would not watch again. I feel like the acting was terrible, the plot was completely stupid and the way it was all setup made the movie hard to follow.

Don Jon - Another great movie, I feel like one of the characters could have used a little more character development, but otherwise it was good.

Mean Girls 2 - It was nice to see it done differently from the first one, obviously low budget film, but it is not a bad movie.

Starred Up.

Incredible. Really intense, gripping, real to life. Starred up is the term used in the UK for young offenders that get moved up to adult prison early.

It's a UK prison drama and very well done. well acted and very real plot. the violence is not gratuitous and it's not a moral fairy tale like so many hollywood flicks are. That gets on my nerves sometimes. It's just a raw and honest story written by a man who worked in the UK prisons as a volunteer therapist.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/starred_up/?search=starred%20up

you can find the trailer there as well.

I love rottentomatoes as a review site, btw, my personal tastes usually run along par with the group reviews done. Sometimes there is a huge discrepancy between reviewers and audience grading - which is interesting...

I just re-watched 'Soldiers girl' I hadn't seen it since it came out a dozen years ago in 2003.
So glad that our military can serve openly now.

We saw Predestination last night.

Complex, confusing, mind-bending/twisting and interesting science fiction.

We liked it but had to talk about it afterwards to try to figure it out.

Star-turn by Sarah Snook.

The premise sounds like Majority Report but it is different.

From imdb:

PREDESTINATION chronicles the life of a Temporal Agent (Ethan Hawke) sent on an intricate series of time-travel journeys designed to prevent future killers from committing their crimes.

Now, on his final assignment, the Agent must stop the one criminal that has eluded him throughout time and prevent a devastating attack in which thousands of lives will be lost.

Pride (2014)

It was good. Interesting story and insight into a little known history and how you can find political/social support in the least expected places. The acting was a little weak despite a good cast, some of the jokes fall flat. The studio and distributor of the DVD release here in the states has received a lot of flack for removing gay reference from the DVD, which I find almost impossible to follow considering the entire movie contains gay themes. Anyway, good gay flick for 2014.

Teacher uses brutal methods to bring out the best in his students.

I enjoyed it even though it had a typical hollywood ending. It will probably earn an oscar or two.

I found this listing in a Leonard Maltin movie book so thought I'd check it out.
Moved sorta slow, hard to figure out what was what, but boy the end sure threw you a curve ball! Check it out and see what you think:popcorn:

A romantic drama centered on two new lovers: Tyler, whose parents have split in the wake of his brother's suicide, and Ally, who lives each day to the fullest since witnessing her mother's murder:movieguy:

Wolf of Wall Street (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0993846/)

For some reason I was looking forward to this. This was one of those I put on and it flunked the 30 minute test. I couldn't figure what was wrong so I looked at the reviews online to see if I was thinking of something else. Nope, great reviews all lined up. Cast, check, potentially interesting story, check, directed by Martin Scorsese, yep.

So, back I went since obviously I was just off to a bumpy start. Rich frat boy party scenes one after the other. 3 hours of it, it took two evenings for me to get through it. I wish they would have taken the story line (all 90 minutes of it), sprinkled in several shorter hooker fests (say, 30 minutes) and come out with a more interesting 2 hour film that would have been a decent portrait of the times and this man. It's the other full hour of what seemed to be purely gratuitous party/drug footage that irritated me.

I want my money back, and it was free. :movieguy:

Obviously my opinion is in the minority, so enjoy.

Unpopular opinion or not, I'm with you Kelt, I didn't like it. I think I lasted 15mins and knew it wasn't for me. Lots of the right ingredients but not to my taste.

I watched Whiplash t'other night. It was really enjoyable as Orema said. Not earth shattering but a decent movie. Another recommend for it from me.

I had missed this preview earlier, it looks like something I will like. Sadly, I can't get it on Netflix yet so it's in the 'saved' queue. Hmm.

Garavito: The World’s Worst Serial Killer

20th centuries most prolific serial killer is largely unknown throughout the world, though he brutally murdered at least 140 children, posing as a priest or teacher he lured poor young boys away from their families, raped them and murdered them. Committing his crimes in various regions of Columbia South America in the 1990's he managed to elude authorities for nine long years.

VERY SAD and sickening

Ditto here. I gave it 15 to 20 minutes and jumped ship. I'd rather watch a good movie 10 times than a bad one once. Obviously, we're in the minority. (shrug)

This made me think of the movie Perfume (though Perfume is not based on a true story and neither is it documentary). I started watching Perfume but had to stop. I've watched some films on serial killers (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Silence of the Lambs, some mess on Jeffrey Dahmer, and of course Psycho), but I just can't do it anymore. Especially when the victims are children. Thank goodness they caught his ass.

VERY SAD and sickening

Thanks for the heads-up on this. Will avoid it :)

I should have followed my gut. My normal line is 20 minutes and I had already gone over. It was like a bad investment you just watch keep sinking.

Maybe I just needed a reminder.

I've got to learn how to sling things around to different devices, especially since I'm considering the projector option. Thanks for the resource!

I know there has been lots of buzz about this flick, but IMHO huge waste of time!

First, the movie never ends up anywhere. Second, maybe I should of taken a cue by the title Boyhood! There is also a daughter in the movie, but not as much focus is shown on her life as the sons. Third, outside of showing how these young kids age, I'm not sure what Linklater was trying to do!

Took the family to see The Imitation Game and 3 outa 4 of us cried before the end. What a powerful and well produced story. I know my daughter just wanted to see her crush Benedict, and I was skeptical, but he knocked it outa the park. Great performances all round.

Appropriate Behavior

Hirin is struggling to become an ideal Persian daughter, politically correct bisexual and hip young Brooklynite but fails miserably in her attempt at all identities. Being without a cliché to hold onto can be a lonely experience.

Read a good review about the movie, previews looked good too, but well just didn't do much for me at least. Check it out and see what you think:popcorn:

"Into the Woods"
I love Sondheim and fairy tales so what's not to love right?
Wrong
I felt like I was being beat about the head and shoulders with the same song over and over and over AND it just carried on FOREVER.
I left before it was over, so disappointing. A big fat thumbs down
(I did adore Johnny Depp as the big bad wolf though, rrrrraawwrrr)

I felt the same way. I wanted to like it, but it was very disappointing. I love Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt.

I just watched:

'Fury' (Brad Pitt) which was very good despite all the gore.
'Wild' (Reese Witherspoon) which as good but not as good as the hype.
