Well..... we have a mix of rain and sunshine, today. All week long, we've had some pretty turbulent weather move across our PNW region. I don't have much faith in the weather app on my phone and because I don't have TV, I usually pay closer attention to the radio I have, which I leave on and is out in the kitchen. It's a Sangean CCRadio Patinum Edition, which was given to me a few years ago. It's got an comprehensive system for weather band reports and the information given, over particular local or regional networks, is often more timely than what you could get online --- especially if high Internet traffic volume causes an weather website to crash.
The above link for NOAA is a good place to find a radio weather service network, for your location.

Here's a photo of what my radio looks like.
It's about 53 degrees right now, slight winds, intermittent rain and sunshine.
Lows tonight will be near the upper 40s.
On Thursday, later this week, with no cloud cover around, it will soar to 80 degrees. The next day, and possibly the following few days, we will drop down twenty degrees, or so.

Great! 86. Sunny. A moderate breeze. I had a short snooze on the beach. I wanted to swim, but the water temp was 42. The beach is only a short walk from my door to the shore.:)
79 degrees and overcast in central Texas with storms expected tonight.
The sky is blue, the sun is bright, the temps are in the low 80's. Much welcome change from the 40's and 50's, clouds, and monsoons.
The forecast said today was supposed to be much cooler than yesterday. Yesterday was in the mid 70's. Just cant get the hang of this new math. :superfunny:

When I first moved to my area years ago, I kid you not ---it seemed to rain every single day, no matter the month of year. Then, gradually, our micro-climate of year around rain has nearly vanished. I just an extended summer forecast for my area in the PNW, and it's terrible. I don't do well in heat. Especially if it's going to last for months.
Today it was very uncomfortable. Nearly 83*. Humidity and hazy air pollution make it worse. The next two days it will be over 90*.
I really like pearly skies, intermittent sunshine....I hope they're wrong about the extended forecast. I hope it's not as hot as they think it's going to get.

We will get a few days of sunshine, too, possibly early next week. It will be way too hot, on those days for me, but Pearly Skies will prevail (hopefully sooner, rather than later).

Here in the middle of the UK we had fog today, followed by drizzle, then someone mislaid a lake right over the top of the college (it seemed like), then more drizzle, more rain, then - it stopped raining! Was still overcast though, didn't see the sun all day.
T'other day when that storm blew over there were a couple of spells where the sun was a dim red even though it was about 30 degrees high in the sky - it was beautiful! But car-owners whinged that their cars were covered in dust. No pleasing some folk! :-}

There was less rain than anticipated but some locations actually had 80 mph winds and there were over 600,000 people in the NE without power, including us for a little while. One of my 40 foot trees was ripped up from the roots and split in the middle. We're thinking a small tornado touched down. Luckily, it's going to be a beautiful day today. They promised us some snow. We had about a quarter inch last night which has melted. Some beginning to our winter.
The variable weather is making me a little nutty. We are back in a bit of a warm up with sunshine, blue skies, and temps hovering around 50.
I finally figured out how to layer well for the cold weather and now have to refigure this for the not so cold weather.
And lastly, I wish my weather program would stop changing my location from the USA to somewhere in France where they are having snow.

It is snowing!
I had to drive in a snow storm to get home at 15 mph. My heart was beating out of my chest. I was terrified but I made it. I could barely see the road and tried to remember everything that I have heard about driving in snow and ice. There was a thin layer of ice on the road but I kept the truck steady. There is 4 inches of snow in my yard.

Sadly, I discovered that my artistic skills with snow are next to non-existent, but it was fun trying, and I took some nice snaps of the street covered in snow about five-ten centimetres deep.

we got two days of snow, but none really stuck. It was a slosh-mess but still pretty.
it went down into the low 20’s yesterday here and in surrounding areas, so where Mel and i visited last week (Asheville NC to Gatlinburg TN) has had road closures, fallen trees, power outages and a million traffic accidents. It’s a mess.
Northern Georgia saw much snow and the airport was a mess with cancelled and delayed flights. i’m also very glad Mel didn’t have to deal with that. :|
Being holed up with my Mel would have been a wonderful few days, but i am glad we took our road trip when we did!

I was born and raised in California. Growing up I vacationed all over that state and OR and WA and western Canada. Now I live in Texas. I miss... read MISS ... the west coast so much! BUT... here comes the weather connection... lol the weather in CA has changed... continues to change... that I wonder if I'd even recognize it in 20, 30, 50 years... if I lived that long.
It saddens me to think that what makes CA ... well, the whole west coast really... so amazing... could disappear forever. Not sad just at losing the gorgeous weather itself but the entire environment could be changed ... lost... forever.

Very windy on even on the coast, where I live. Mid 70's today.
High fire risk continues.
The Thomas fire has burned 269,000 acres and is only 40% contained and they expect it to get worse today.
1,000 structures (and homes) destroyed and more are threatened.
One 32-year-old fire fighter died of burns and smoke inhalation. He had a pregnant wife and 2-year-old daughter.

We have had significant winds too, which adds toward the cold index. Just these past few weeks, winds were clocked at hurricane force winds out in the gorge. Some readings were well over 84 mph, at sustained lengths of time too.
Anya? I read somewhere that our state sent quite a few fire fighters to help out down your way. I imagine Washington has too. The west coast sure took a beating thus last year in fires.

I don't even bother with the actual temps. I only look at the wind chill number, because I spend a quarter to half the day outside so I need to know how many layers and how thick, etc. Looking at the figures for the next 10 days or so and I see a few days with negative signs in front of the numbers. No bueno.

There is always good news and bad news.
You are on the snow side. The good news is the foot or so will be light and fluffy. Normally, that would be easier to shovel (or use a leaf blower on as our snow removal guys do) except for the high winds blowing it all over the place. The temps, from what I saw, will be decent during the day but dropping in the evening, back to even more brutal cold that we have had thus far. The cold and the winds are expected to continue thru most of Sunday. Everything that falls is going to freeze solid until the temps moderate come Sunday night.
Raimondo was impressive when she talked about the state's readiness for this and her readiness to declare a state of emergency if needed. Safer to close stuff and order people off the roads than to deal with all the frozen snow/ice that will be out there.
Please be careful and safe out there.
I'm on the rain/snow line and far enough out, I think, to be mostly rain. If we do get some snow, it will be wet and heavy - not exactly what you want on trees and power lines when you are expecting wind gusts around 70. We too will be getting the return of the brutal cold tomorrow night. So everything here will be encased in ice if it is mostly rain. They are anticipating widespread power outages here and have warned power may not be able to be restored for several days due to the high winds. That will be a bummer. The electric company already did their warning phone call this evening. Havent heard from the towns emergency management yet.
The good news is, there is an opportunity for several days of snuggling, cuddling, and canoodling. :)
It was eerily silent and calm when I woke up. That lasted for an hour.
Now the rain is flooding the roadways, and the winds are rattling the windows. I'm ignoring the stuff thumping on the roof. I am going to have to go retrieve the the stuff that broke free and thumped down the stairs tho.
Goods news is the temps are in the low 40's at the moment!
Gemme, I trust you are monitoring the reports and are aware something shifted in the track. The expected "light and fluffy" for your area is now "not so light and not so fluffy". Shoveling is going to be a chore. Please be careful out there.

So for the first time in a long time, I get to be snowed in with my spouse and our dogs and just sip hot cocoa and relax. :tea:

It's official, I've become a bit of a wimp regarding cold weather! 3 degrees C here this morning, with a 16kph wind, and despite being pretty well wrapped up, I felt cold, rather than pleasantly cool.
Sigh. Ah well, it's still better than getting overheated! :-}

One more day of "Polar Whoretex" then it looks like 20's 30's and 40's (!) for the next 10 days! BTW, I play this "game" with myself where I take screenshots of the lowest temp of the season, and replace it when it goes lower. The rule is that the sun must have risen in order for it to qualify. Last year, was 9 degrees lowest. This year so far, -1. Right now it's -2 so I'm gonna hang out to see if it holds for another few minutes till official sunrise. SO EXCITING.

I can't believe the horrible snow and blizzard conditions all of you are experiencing.
Stay warm and safe.
Our weather in California is comfortable, I will leave it at that but will say that according to CALFIRE, the Thomas fire is still going, albeit, almost out.

We still have no rain in sight in So. CA.
It is 7 degrees with a wind chill of minus 6. It says here there will be am clouds and pm sun.
Sooooo, I'm guessing the snow that is currently falling must be a figment of my imagination. I am not shoveling so my imagination better knock it off.
70 degrees and cloudy in central Texas.

You're teasin'.
After the power was out for 7 plus hours this morning and the inside temp kept dropping (one bedroom down to 42°) it's taken all day to get the livingroom back up to 59°. That's toasty compared to what it was at 9am when everything came back on and stayed on.

That makes for a very long night. I'm glad your power is back on and the house is warming up.

Now, we have rain.
Pouring rain.
Mandatory evacuations in the Thomas fire area because of mudslides.
Creeks overflowing their banks.
Mud on freeways, multiple accidents, overturned big rigs.

17 people killed in the mudslides, 17 still unaccounted for. 100 homes destroyed. 1500 homes still threatened.
500 search and rescue first responders out today with 10 search dogs.
The news just said that they are now calling it search and recovery instead of rescue.
In a usual bizarre twist here in Southern California, it is clear today with a high of 75. By next Wednesday (according to ABC News), it will be up to 81.
We have fires, then rain, then mudslides, then no rain and the cycle starts again.
:candle:
This morning it was 57 with bright sunshine and no wind. Was actually able to sit at the beach today dressed only in shorts and a light jacket. For weeks, as far as the eye could see, the ocean was a sheet of ice. Today you could actually see water in the distance.
However, that deteriorated into heavy rain and winds this afternoon. The flood advisory was discontinued but wind warnings are back.
Rain will continue but temps will hold until late tomorrow when they drop steadily down to the 20's and 30's.
Thinking tomorrow nights Patriots game is going to be a frozen mud fest.

Flood warning in full effect here. We're on our 2nd or 3rd inch of rain on top of about 16 inches of snow. We're probably going to get about another inch of rain before it's done.
Luckily, I bought DC a two person camping raft so if We need it, it's there.

It's around 50 now but will plunge to 15 in a flash freeze. We're also expecting up to 9 inches of snow this Thursday and then another 5 or so a few days after that. I knew we were in for a steady winter since the last one was so mild.
Phooey.
27 degrees and dropping. Currently we have sleet/snow and the roads are icy. Most schools and businesses have closed. Central Texas is closed today.
