There is a slight chance that I may actually be able to leave the house AND stay awake for more than an hour at a time by next weekend. BUT, I really really can't laugh without intense pain AND will be off of the serious pain pills by then (curse those doctors for worrying about "opiate and narcotic drug dependency" whatever blah blah blah) - so I can say for sure I will NOT be there if anyone is going to say anything funny.

If you will all be boring and somber (as you usually are), it is possible I'll be up to coming, at least for a little bit (will know better Friday or Sat, one day at a time heh)

I read the kite runner last year, and it was just amazing!!! There was supposed to be a movie made, but I havent seen any info about it.

I also read his second book, "a thousand splendid suns".... again, really great! A new favorite writer!

He recently announced he was leaving Austin to move back to Colorado, but before he could leave he was found unconscious in a parking lot, and yesterday he passed away. March 8th has been declared Leslie Day by the mayor, and the city council had a moment of silence in his honor. A memorial will be held for him on Sunday at Auditorium Shores.

While looking for this information, I also searched for follow-up info regarding Norma Hurtado. She and her mother Maria were shot dead by her girlfriend's father in Austin last year. I found a youtube memorial put up by the victims' son/brother:

She was a cute little baby butch and I emphasize *baby* because I think she was only 23. I know that being out carries a higher risk of death, but I think one of the most tragic things about this was that her mother was also shot. I'm coloring easter eggs and making a few baskets tonight and can't help smiling as I remember us coloring all of those eggs and making 50 easter baskets for the old folks' home.

The assembly line...Arwen and Goofy trying to make the ugliest egg. oops sorry, I meant they were trying to make the coolest egg. Blush and Ashton drawing designs, durrrrrrrrrrrrr and Candace orchestrating the assembly line. Remember that chick named Pixie who helped? Nah....

And everybody else there. Good times.

When we handed them out, remember the couple trading their socks without saying a word? durrrrrrrrr's deadpan answer when the lady asked if the eggs were hard boiled. ("That's what we're telling people.) She was tickled by the old smartass.

In the middle of working through Daisy's trouble and treatment, we decided we had to get serious with the vet about why Pinkie just won't eat any more. Enough of the "oh, it's a broken tooth...it's the stitches from her tooth...she is still worried about the tooth extraction" crap we've been hearing for a month now.

Be careful what you ask for. They ran more tests and ultrasounds. She has a cancer that has consumed her spleen, covered her liver and gotten into her heart. She wouldn't have had more than a couple weeks at best - but her greatest risk is that sudden move, jumping, going up or down stairs could cause her spleen to burst, which would be a horribly painful way to go.

So, we are offering her all the treats and people food that Auntie Leah says no to, and allowing her to go peacefully on Friday. It would be inexcusable for us to selfishly hang on to her longer and then let her suffer a burst spleen.

You know she is still all of your girlfriend - and she'll be with us, only enjoying the squirrels and birds much more.

just a lil update. 10 hrs at the ER and i came away with ointment for an eye infection. i appreciate the valiant efforts of the eye swat team on saturday. wet is good and ice is my friend. with luck, this shit will be cleared up soon. i'm tired of the challenge of 1 eye driving.

Hell of a storm that blew threw here. Our neighbor two doors down had (operative word) a tree in their front yard and the wind just twisted it to pieces. We went down and helped sweep the leaves off the driveway and drag a few large branches to the pile (the ones we could move by hand; the rest dragged by a truck) as said neighbor was cutting them off what was left of the tree with a chain saw. Now they need a stump grinder. Sucks to see a tree that size come down.

Yes ma'am! Luckily, the Comal River is man-made and runs really easily.... you don't have to worry about paddling with your arms while on the tube. The current will drift ya pretty easy.

There is ONE chute (kinda like a slide) about halfway through the float, when you come off it, start paddling to the right so you don't get sucked into the toilet bowl. I had to learn the hard way :)
