No really, c'mere!

Here's hoping everyone can avoid the SXSW craziness that is the traffic. I'm going into work early. I've done some clever juggling of days off and will be off Sat-Mon next weekend.

This means I can actually show up at Pup and Oiler's on time (you know how I hate to be "fashionably" late.) And I can spend some quality time with my honey. W00t.

OH! KC will be home Tuesday. I'm so happy! :)

Annual music, film, and interactive conference and festival held in Austin. People come from all over the world. Lot's of famous people running around Austin. It gets crowded on the roads so I try to avoid it. I used to go to stuff though. They have free shows pretty much everywhere with some pretty big names. I used to live right downtown so I could hear some of the music it was nice.

I enjoy living in East Central 10 minutes from downtown but out enough for quiet in a gated community with a pool grills and a gym.

My community is of mix race and cultures and Also assessable to three bus lines.

Austin is semi-responsible for Amy Winehouse.

On a brighter note, Johnny Cash played one year. So did the White Stripes. Many unknowns play @ SXSW and get signed.

True story!

South by Southwest USED to be the place where good local artists might get signed. It USED to be a showcase for unknown bands, usually from Texas. But then, well-known bands and artists started playing it. So unknown bands were pushed to the smaller venues and lost their audience and the point of the festival. Also, the influx of known artists has driven up the cost of wristbands to the point of being completely out of reach for the average person.

But it is good for tourism.

I spent roughly 6 hours crafting today and yesterday. Most of that was for shoddy work but the last stuff I did has turned out pretty well. Good enough for Ebon to ask me to paint something to put on our walls, which are still nekkid.

I have this fear that we won't hang it right and those big ole prints and frames will come crashing down.

I almost got Ebon to the grocery store today. Almost.

Oh, and I have to give a major THANK YOU to that Ebon/Gemme group. At the last minute, with no warning, they hopped in the car and came to our house to dogsit (even thinking they'd have to stay overnight) because we got stuck in snow and slush and canceled flights yesterday.

Now, there are some friends (or suckers. We may have promised more than we could deliver.). We started with who was closest and figured we'd move further out as people were unavailable/working/not home etc.
but we didn't have to go further than the closest ones! Never mind that the neighbor decided to cancel his plans and stay with our pups. I think they had a party in our honor.

And, I have to say, my eyes are permantly stuck up in my head from rolling them at all the hipsters in ultra-expensive designer shabby clothes hooking up on the plane because they're all going to "south-by". Le sigh-by.

Jason's can't quite cut it. But, in the spirit of not pushing it, I'm willing to negotiate. How about every week for a month, and then we'll cut back to every other week, except for holidays, and my birthday?

We have get~togethers on a fairly regular basis, but I wouldn't say they revolve around happy hours (except for Shari cuz she's a DW :eyebat: )...........but I'm sure we could do something while you're here! Would love to meet you!

Keep us posted as the time draws near. We have folks who will be unable to attend because they work in the evenings, too, so that will be something to consider.

Glad you're comin' into town! You'll adore Austin!

Even if Oiler did that, Dude still has that Jeep thing.

Because I'm a giver like that.

This is actually kind of funny (a bunch of hours later) but the Jeep would not go willingly. She didnt like the tow bar and chewed up her tires and then I forgot to put the hitch pin back on to the damn hitch. So, this morning while it was still dark I am draggin the transport by the chains down pup and oiler's
street.

Then, I left some tire marks on the next street because she was locked up on one side and would not roll freely athough very much in neutral.

Then 12 miles out from Fort Stockton a front tire on the rv lost it's re-tread.
Luckily, there was room to limp it along side of highway the next 12 miles ,doing 20ish.There just happened to be a do it all mechanics and tire place just a small way after the exit. Could not find the mongo lugwrench for this bad boy anywhere. They also hooked me up with a used spare.

Reportin live from a very fn noisy(aint never gonna sleep) right on the damn highway Walmart parking lot in El Paso.

If you always listen to your tires, they will tell you where you should be going. They grab the road and drag, trying to stop you when you should not be going somewhere.

Next time you come out here, you won't have any trouble with your tires at all.

So. I have great memories of making Easter baskets for the group home kids when I was younger (my parents have always been big into the foster home/charity thing) - coloring eggs and putting together baskets for kids who wouldn't have anything else; thinking about how it would brighten their day.

If I found an Alzheimer's home, or a group home nearby, would you want to come the Friday before Easter and help make little Easter baskets for them? Probably a couple dozen or so. It's something I'm thinking about doing this year, maybe throw a little thank you to the universe or whatever for all the good stuff that keeps landing in my lap. Besides, I like to color easter eggs, and it is so much more fun with a purpose and a bunch of people.

Yay or nay? I'd have the eggs, basket makins, jelly beans etc.
Trying to see if it's worth talking about having peeps over (hee get it, peeps?) Send me a PM or text if Yay. That would be Friday evening, Apr 22.

Yes, we could spice it up with some Wii and Fact or Crap or Cranium and adult beverages. Duh.
And of course, you know this house wouldn't have people over without also offering a buttload of food (that's a nice image, huh?) this time around, it'll probably be ordered in, not homemade.

i'd be happy to help. i like an opportunity or two to toss good stuff back to the universe. i'd also be willing to make and bring some dessert type stuff. we sure don't need to keep all that here at the house...but i sure like making it. :)

lemme know what else i could do to help. my only disclaimer is that i'm in if i don't have to work that night.

but, if i can, i will. and, always willing to make desserts to be shared. even if i can't make it, i'll bet the desserts can. perhaps ash would be willing to be the delivery guy.

I have no games so bring games too. :) We can just hang out and watch each other age if you like. No theme. No plan. Just show up with food.

We'll eat. We'll laugh. We'll tell bad stories on one another.

Batman will demonstrate his amazing lap surfing skills while Nayru flips her head. Flynn may or may not show up. He's a cat. That's what cats do.

I'll make pulled pork and have buns available.

OH! Iffn ya wanna, bring chairs for sitting on the patio. :)

I'd love it if you could RSVP. PM or here.

These both sound awesome. I'm throwing a tentative hat in the ring, as I haven't any idea at all what my manager is doing to/for the April schedule and Ebon has a new manager that's messing with his schedule too. *crossing fingers*

maybe. depends on whether i get work or not. thinking this is likely the busy season for theatre and concerts. and i really like paying bills (well, i like being able to) and i so seriously intend to get a motorcycle this year...work first.

but, if i can, i will. and, always willing to make desserts to be shared. even if i can't make it, i'll bet the desserts can. perhaps ash would be willing to be the delivery guy.

Congrats on the new line of work. Ryobi would be a great resource for any questions you may have, as this is his field and he's badass at it.

NOW I see why I should come to the Austin thread. lol. Thanks Gemme, I AM badass at my job.

little man, you can look up each venue you might work at. They should have posted somewhere their schedule of events taking place in that venue. Some post as much as a year out.

I don't know so much as this is the busy season for you in Texas. Typically, productions move north in the summer months, as entertainers are wusses and don't like the cold winters up here. This is not the rule, I just see it happen a lot. It's a big reason stagecraft is an ebb and flow business in most places.

I can give you other info that would be helpful, I would like to not pass it along here though. My phone # is in your rep comments. Please feel free.

Have a good show.

Maybe you could bring bells to put on Arwen's bike?

So y'all try not to hit me if you see me wobbling down the road. ha!

If'n you want, I could tie you to my bumper and ride you around that way.

There has been no Marigold Massacre. She still lives. I think I hear her calling my name. I'm trying to resist. I don't know that I can resist salad though. Mmmm

OH! I also had to SNATCH my salsa out of Pup's hands. She tried to tell me she was just moving it, but i know better. :| She's a low-down, double-dealing, mean salsa stealer.

Yep, we got to visit Ash for a bit today - he's doing well enough that he could be could be a smarty pants.

He may be able to move out of the ICU tomorrow.

The most healing thing is seeing how many people love and care about him. If you want to send a card, thoughts, wishes etc, PM me for the address. I know it would mean a lot to him.

As soon as he's out of ICU, he can have as many visitors as the hospital can hold! Bring cards and poker money.

DMV fees in Mississippi are the highest I've paid. Much more than I paid in California; More than in New York. Texas DMV fees are low and that is only one reason it is great here! Reason two, no state income tax; reason three, a reasonable cost of living; reason four, continued growth, specifically in Austin, which is again in the top twenty "cities to live in" in the U.S. this year; reason five, a great community here. It is OUTSTANDING to live here!

Hey, people save up to retire here! c'mon

Makes sense! I am really hoping that the damn housing situation begins to level out soon (just can't sell my place at a loss). I do have to relocate. What really sux is being on such a tight budget (my dividend income took a big nose dive in this recession and has not climbed back up much yet) that I can't really travel and that is what I need to so I can check out regions. Right now, a lot of stuff is going on for me right now. But, things will eventually turn around.

Yanno.... the Austinites are always welcome at my place if they vacation in California. I'm a great tour guide and treat guests just like I was from the South! Must have been that 21 years with a woman from 'Bama!!!

And Hey- look what your sweetheart says about Texas!!
