Reminds of the song 'America' from West Side Story:
Bernardo commenting on his return to Puerto Rico: "Everyone there will give big cheer!"
Anita's response: "Everyone there will have moved here." ha, ha

Sorry folks, couldn't resist! lol

Carry on...

Bad timing we are all moving.

Thank you for your help Hermano. Do you especially recommend any of theses restaurants. I already have been to the Green Mesuite not to crazy about it and I do like Pappadeaux. Have a great day

I'm not sure about the others but I have to say that I really don't care for Artz's place. The menu is limited and the lady with the band came over the second we got our hands dirty with bbq, looking for tips. They do, however, have excellent banana pudding.

Meeting my papi for the first time. He's promised the best BBQ & seafood in Austin, and I'm sure he won't disappoint!

Keep those suggestions coming, y'all!! (Ok, NY girl practicing her western 'talk', lol)

I hope to meet some of you all while I'm visiting your great city. :)

Yo, Gemme, you're in the music capitol now! BBQ menus generally are pretty limited, cuz they focus on the BBQ. Bands make their money off tips. Not tipping the band is a felony! They only have a limited amount of time to collect 'em.

Yes. Try 2" and no salt or mag chloride on the roads.

What people in other parts of the country tend to forget is that we don't have the preparation y'all do. So we have 1" of ice with 1" of snow over that.

Come down for a spin. I'll stay inside. Even seasoned winter drivers can't handle ice driving without salt.

true that, I should know. I lived up north, i lived in blizzards etc etc.

but up north they have equipment, they now have "brime" to put on the roads hours before a storm.

here in Texas, they did what they could, with what equipment they have...which is nothing compared to the mid-west / north. they put sand on bridges but that didnt even work. several wrecks today, and a lady was killed when she slid off a bridge. ( course, my thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends )

so, now i get it, now i understand why when i lived up north and would watch on tv, ppl here was driving and wrecking and sliding all around.

Sorry. My last post comes across a bit cranky. It's just that I've lived in Colorado through three back-to-back blizzards and at least one other that I can think of. I've driven in that nastiness.

I used to laugh at people up there who couldn't drive in downpours. They'd be pulling over to the side in what, to me, was just a little boomer.

So, I guess, what I need to remember is that we each have our own experiences. :) Sorry if I sounded ugly.

I was out on the roads today and it was much different than when in WA. Ya'll (not YOU, just most of ya'll Austinite type folks) haven't a CLUE how to drive on roads in that condition.

I tried to get up Banister and couldn't, so I let Ella slide back into the parking lot and went the other way and then several OTHER ways until I could find a damn road whose hill was small enough to accomodate my pretty and delicate flower of a car. It took me the same amount of time to find a safe route out of the neighborhood and onto the highway as it normally takes me to get to work.

I found no less than 15 drivers (out of the 100 cars, max) that I came across that were tailgating and slipping and sliding and just acting a fool this morning. If the hill's too steep, continually squealing your tires will get you nowwhere. And fast.

Unlike WA, there were no plows. No salt. No sand, except for ONE bridge. Twenty miles is a looooong distance when you are driving a speedy 20 miles an hour on I35.

Vroom, vroom!

There's gonna be ice out there tomorrow. Be safe, everyone!

I feel for the brothers and sisters in Austin. Those hills can be treacherous. We've just had to contend with ice on overpasses, and closures of the high, arching exit ramps.

We ventured out for a little while late yesterday, before sunset, to get some Pappasito's chips, salsa and dessert. We're hunkered down, but I've got such an urge to go to Kemah for some oysters. Guess I'll have to wait until another day.

Houston even had an ice delivery, of the baby nature. A woman was driving to deliver, and had an accident on the way to the hospital. Not a great time for ice on the highway.

Prepping to make my reservations for Diva's B-Day bash.

Not cranky at all - if anything, perhaps a tad impatient with us folks who just dont 'get it'. But taking the circumstances at hand, one can understand why. It's hard to imagine a place that's always sunny and warm (for the most part). I was raised in NYC, lived in NJ many years, and now in PA for the past 8 years. It's hard to imagine a place with no snow, or that dreaded black ice. Given alot of thought, I can now understand why folks with your climate, and not having the right equipment, have such a hard time with the current weather.

Sorry. My last post comes across a bit cranky. It's just that I've lived in Colorado through three back-to-back blizzards and at least one other that I can think of. I've driven in that nastiness.

Dear Austinites and those who love us and those who may not be Facebook friends,

I'm having a party at my place on Saturday March 5th. I would love for you to come help me share this time.

I'm celebrating my 50th year on this planet as well as throwing a housewarming party. Since Mardi Gras is on my actual birthday this year (March 8th), I thought I'd throw down Louisiana-style.

I'll have some gumbo for the "real" food along with king cakes. You can come fancy or casual, I don't care. I'm not real picky that way. I just want to see your smiling faces.

So PM me if you want more information (like the address and time.) I'll try not to post this invitation more than once or twice more (lol) but you are most warmly invited.

We hated to do it, but we're moving a bit farther North than we anticipated (Pup and Oiler should be concerned). We were looking for one place but the instructions I printed out from mapquest (I know, I KNOOOOOWWW) were wrong (surprise!) and we found ourselves in a new to us area. I would suggest trying Indeed again; I typed in Medical Assistant within 25 miles of Austin and the results were several pages of jobs. Not sure if there is something in particular you might be looking for, but the medical field seems to be fairly strong here. Just my .02

I would check Craigslist Austin, there are often medical assistant positions on there. Also the Austin Statesman online. You can go to the website for:
Seton Hospitals / clinics
Scott and White Hospitals and clinic ( the Round Rock facility is really nice )
Dell Children Hospital
St Davids Hospitals / clinics

for a start, good luck!:goodluck:

Of course, Ashton pulled a Janey and didn't serve what he promised.

I was told, "Come to Lockhart! I'll make Chicken Sopa."

"Yum," I said. I love that.

Oh yeah. I got Sopa No Pollo.

Dinner conversation as we eat....

Ashton, "I'll be dam...."

Wil and Arwen, "What?"

"I left the chicken out of the Chicken Sopa."

Arwen practicing her limited Spanish, "So we got Sopa No Pollo?"

But I had a yummy meal with two good humans that included a fabulous dessert and coffee on the porch.

Wii with a puppy sleeping in my lap wasn't bad either.

We have an xbox and will be renting a washer and dryer.

Funny moment: As we were being golfcarted to look at the apartment, I asked, "Is that a fountain?"

Smita, the new girl, says: "No, it's a pool."

Would anyone like to have breakfast with Chad Saturday morning? He is dropping me off at Diva's at about 8:30 am, and won't have anything to do until the moving starts. He's not a morning guy, but usually comes around after the first cup of coffee :coffee:

Ebon, could you please text the address to Chad? Thanks:)

Maybe the fact that we're moving away from his favorite restaurant will take the sting out of it? And no worries on eating too much. I haz a plan. I have small and light, small and heavy, medium and light, medium and heavy, big and heavy and DAYUM sized boxes. We'll start him on the smaller ones until some of breakfast digests.

Sharon Bridgforth's "the bull-jean stories" serves as the foundation/inspiration upon which this multi-disciplinary performance artwork is being created. By weaving filmed stories and documentary interviews with live performance and visual art, Q-Roc will create an environment for the audience to co-exist with the artist as they are immersed in the world of rural, working class bull-daggas, together witnessing stories that speak to generations of bull-jeans.

I hope to meet many of you on my visit and get to know you a bit. I will be arriving mid-March. The length of my stay is indefinate at the moment, but I hope to squeeze in some sightseeing, and folk-meeting. Hoping to build some warm memories to take back home for those cold wintry nights...

All righty, looks like there will leprechauns dancing around our house next week, so might as well have a St. Patrick's Day party, only a couple days later to give us enough time to exterminate the leprechauns first.

March 19
And it'd be startin' at 6:30 or so, then.

We'll have green stuff to drink, but I'm not guaranteeing the green stuff will properly satisfy your thirst like the drink of choice you might want to bring. (It may be lime koolaid, perhaps a sherbet punch. If you put green food coloring in Red Bull. does it turn green or brown or just nastier?)

Of course we'll have green stuff to eat; I'm leaving things out of the refrigerator already so they get to the proper festive St. Patrick's Day hue by the 19th. Has there ever not been enough food here?

Will ye send a little note letting us know if you'll be there so we know how much gold to take from the leprechauns?

The PupOil hotel is filling up fast with some visitors from afar (we hope!) so if you'll be a drunken bastard without a backup driver, speak for your sleeping spot soon.

Fantastic! We will see you then!

Ditto.
Sort of.
We'll be there (may be solo but he's going to try to come down)
Work yes.
Later yes.
Earlier no.

Walk the plank and pick a four-leafed clover if you followed this.
If you didn't, have two ales and one whiskey. Get back to me.
Did we blow up Oiler's phone? :)

Great news! Hope to see you both, but you for sure!

I'm planning on being there.....thanks for throwing one!

Party, I mean! :eyebat:

Wonderful! We do throw one now and again,,parties I mean!

As usual, we will have the place decorated up and will have the appropriate party wear. However, if you aren't wearing something green, be prepared for a pinching BEFORE we hook you up with the green! Just sayin'.

All righty, looks like there will leprechauns dancing around our house next week, so might as well have a St. Patrick's Day party, only a couple days later to give us enough time to exterminate the leprechauns first.

March 19
And it'd be startin' at 6:30 or so, then.

The PupOil hotel is filling up fast with some visitors from afar (we hope!) so if you'll be a drunken bastard without a backup driver, speak for your sleeping spot soon.

Is there still room at the O'PupOil hotel? If so, we'd like to claim it :)

Went up north. Got through the border patrol with no hassle. Had a grand time with Gemme. Ebon was in his cave and I literally didn't see him at first! LOL

We went to a chinese place (Golden Wok?) that serves Dim Sum. Soup was yummy. Dim Sum not so much. Calamari was to die for though. We then checked out a Marble Slab place. I still like Amy's better. LOL Fun times!

Yes. I'm a dork.

I just locked myself out of my condo for the THIRD time in under 2.5 months. I sat outside waiting but finally called PopALock around 11 (I locked myself out at 6:45pm.)

I'll be hanging a key on the dogs' leash so I never do this again.

Were you patiently waiting for the cat inside to open the door and let you in? Or a burglar?

Oh, wait wait, I know -- it started raining and you had left the windows open, so you finally had to call a locksmith to let you in so you could close the windows?

Pffft! The last time I did this (errr, last week...:|) I was told by SOMEONE that I should have called him.

This time I did.

He didn't respond.

I lost track of time.

I finally gave up when I realized how late it was (and when SOMEONE ELSE didn't answer my call).

Five hours. LOL FIVE hours! Boy, did I have some 'splainin' to do this morning to my honey. We had a date and I missed it. :(

just to prove that i'm not called captain obvious for no good reason...

why not give a key to someone you know is generally around and answers their phone?

inquiring minds want to know. or maybe it's a rhetorical question. i forget.

Well, Cap'n, he is usually around but was knocked out last night. AND, I could only email since I didn't have my phone. Or I would have called my favorite locksmith! :)

But my phone along with my brain and keys was on the other side of the door. I couldn't remember your email (and I did try!)

maybe you should take the pup's advice and leave a window open. like one of the ones right behind the holly bush. that might be enough to make you recall the keys.

Don't forget your passport and for goodness sakes, stay alert in traffic. When I went up to see Gemme and Ebon , a guy in front of me tried to merge when someone else was and he overcorrected. Went off the road through the service road (and oncoming traffic) to 360 to a stop in a parking lot. Scary stuff.

Your girl and I had fun. :) Garden Ridge. I spent $150 (in my head) easily.

Then...yes, I locked myself out of my house again. BUT, two things.

1. I had a key hidden outside so I got in.
2. My door handle is not trustworthy. It was UNLOCKED when I went out. I twist it to make sure. It locked back up. Yay.

I have the best people in my life. You know who you are.

OMG again!!!

I'm glad you had one hidden. Now don't bring the hidden one in the house. lol

I understand locking yourself out though. When I was there and I was walking the dogs I checked the door about 18 times before I actually closed it.

Glad yall had fun up at the Ridge. Kat can't stop talking about what she saw so I figure we will probably be taking a trip there in the future.
