Hey y'all - I hope I am not double posting this but I thought it was info worth having. This happened at 4th and Lavaca.

AUSTIN – Two men say they were attacked after leaving a gay night club in downtown* Austin and their attackers were yelling anti-gay slurs.
Bobby Beltran and Christopher Ortega say they were attacked on the morning of Dec. 26 after they left Rain night club. As they were embracing, they heard a string of anti-gay slurs from a car full of men stopped at 4th Street and Lavaca.
“I just turned and I said, ‘That stuff's not welcome here in Austin. We don't accept that.’ and that really set them off,” Beltran said. “One guy came out of the car, started attacking him, then they put the car in park, jumped out and surrounded us.”
According to the pair, the slurs continued during the attack.
“It wasn't like a mob attack, like they were all just beating us, it was more like a choreographed dance. There was a guy on the right, a guy on the left,” Ortega said.
An official at the Austin Police Department confirms that a report was filed by Beltran and that the department is investigating. They say it is too early to say whether any arrests have been made.
"I always, whenever I travel, talk very highly of Austin and say it's so safe here, and it's safe and cozy and everybody gets along, and I am extremely shocked,” Ortega said.
Despite Austin’s reputation for acceptance, the case of Beltran and Ortega is not isolated.
Among medium sized cities, Austin leads the state in the number of hate crime motivated by sexual orientation, according to the FBI. During 2009, the FBI reported four such crimes in Austin, two in El Paso, and none in Fort Worth.
What the report can not explain is whether that means those cities are safer, or whether Austinites are just more willing to report crimes against them.
Beltran and Ortega believe police could have done more in the course of their investigation. However, they admit they were not able to provide a license plate or detailed descriptions of their attackers.

I am moving to Austin next month!!!!!!!!!!

I got a really great offer at a new rehab facility in South Austin that I just can't refuse. Plus, I didn't really wanna refuse since I'll be closer to all you loverlies!

I'll be staying at a friends house for the first month or so until I can get settled and find a place.

On another note, someone special will be joining me a month or so after I get there. She'll need some lovin from you guys since she's never really been around the butch-femme community.

I was wondering if I could ask for some help? I have reserved the Penske (hopefully no fires this time) for January 29th. I'll need help on the San Antonio and Austin ends of the trek loading/unloading/organizing/etc. Also, does anyone have a reccomendation for a storage unit? I need to store my large furniture for about a month to a month and a half. I am really needing help since this is so last minute and unconventional. I am nervous as hell but am SURE I am making the right choice.

From Beaumont, Austin is about 3 1/2 to 4 hours... depending on traffic in Katy. But if you are driving up on a Saturday, you shouldn't have any problems at all. It's a really easy drive.

Here's MY timeline.......

We drizzle into The Fudd's between 6:30 and 6:52-ish.....we order, we talk, we laugh, we pick up our order, we doctor it up, we sit down to eat, but then we talk and laugh some more....we finish, but Ashton probably orders some kind of frothy drink in a tin cup and passes it around for everyone to taste, we take pictures and laugh some more.

By THAT time, it's probably close to 8:37-ish.....

Then we all trail out and get in our respective cars and some of us don our oxygen masks for the trip up to the north country of Cedar Park.

We dribble in to Glynise's around 9:24 and commence to settle in.

So my guess IS, "Yes!"....we will still be there at 10 pm.

Our lease is up at the end of February. We went carousing today and found what might be a reasonable place for us. We'll know for sure in a couple of weeks or so.

We could really use some help moving the last weekend in February.

I can probably do the smaller stuff by myself over a few days' time and I might be able to use the truck at work for minimum cost if we need to, but it would be a tremendous help if someone was free to help with the larger pieces of furniture and whatnot. Our lease is up at the end of February. We went carousing today and found what might be a reasonable place for us. We'll know for sure in a couple of weeks or so.

We could really use some help moving the last weekend in February.

Which is Diva's birthday weekend celebration. :|

I can probably do the smaller stuff by myself over a few days' time and I might be able to use the truck at work for minimum cost if we need to, but it would be a tremendous help if someone was free to help with the larger pieces of furniture and whatnot. I know there will bunches of folks at Diva's party, and we hope to make it there at one point too, but any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

That is absolutely fantastic and we will DEFINITELY take you up on your offer. We are still in the looking phase, but there's a place that we are both liking from the outside. Next week, we'll have a couple of units free to look at. I'm crossing my fingers on this one, because it's super close to my work and it's just beautiful there. It's on 290 E and not an unreasonable distance away.

I'm not cut out to commute. Or maybe I just don't make enough to make it worthwhile to me. Either way, it's angering both me and the car. This place is, if worse comes to worst, close enough that I can walk to work. It'll take me ages, but at least it's a straight shot up the road.

The baby alive she wanted that the one in St.Pete where you took her didn't have it... she also got the diapers and food ..she's such a Mom ..lmao Then we went to RedLobster for shrimp.. she is so funny the stuff she comes up with ..lol..

Then Yvette will move up at the end of Feb and we will move into a place (yet to be discovered.) We really want a house not an apt, and our budget is about 800-900/month. Whew! What a great day. I got to see Ebon and Ash and Conner. My big bed is gone. I'm now sleeping in Conner's bed. My tv has a stand. I got to laugh and eat my weight in sushi. I learned the heaven that is pomegranate sake. I had Mexican vanilla ice cream. I got to play with Tarot cards. My dogs got to meet and greet their Uncle Linus.

I actually forgot two of my favs in Austin, The County Line BBQ and Cherry Creek Catfish

I only gave you the names of the ones I do recommend. Its a matter of personal taste I know but I listed my favs.

My fav seafood is Quality seafood, except for Catfish & hush puppies its Catfish Parlor with Cherry creek pulling second. Oh and if you like Banana pudding done right Catfish parlor has that covered too. Right Arwen?!?

My fav BBQ is Chislohm Trail, with Slat lick and Coopers 2nd, in Austin it depends what Im in the mood for. Ribs its Artz or County line, Chicken & turkey Green Mesquite, Beef brisket stubbs or Sams, Rudys is sausage....but they cant touch Chishom trails sausage...no one can IMHO
